"Abstract: The paper describes nicotine addiction in the context of chemical dependency generally, including differences between nicotine and other addictions. Addiction is related to narcissistic injury of an already narcissistically wounded self. Difficulties and dangers for the therapist working with clients who are addicted are pointed out. Smokers can benefit from employing alternative coping sirakgies in high risk situations, and other cognitive and interpersonal skills. Aims To investigate potentially crucial aspects of Swedes' perceptions of nine different addictions. Data and Methods Population survey, sent out to 2,000 adult Swedes (18–74 years), focusing on the perceived severity of, responsibility for, options to recover from, and character of addiction to cigarettes, snuff, alcohol, cannabis, amphetamine, cocaine, heroin, medical drugs, and gambling. Results There are large differences in the ways in which various addiction problems are perceived. Whereas tobacco use, and to some extent gambling, are seen as relatively harmless “habits”, not particularly easy to get hooked on but easy to quit, the use of drugs such as heroin, amphetamine, and cocaine is seen as a major societal problem, and users are seen both as “sinners” who need to mend their ways and as powerless “victims”. In between comes the use and misuse of alcohol, cannabis and medical drugs, about which perceptions are more divided. Conclusions Respondents tend to downplay the risks and dangers with addictive habits that are common and familiar in mainstream culture, and to dramatise the risks and dangers with such habits that are uncommon or “strange”. This may have unfortunate consequences for addicts' options to find a path out of their predicaments.

This study aims to (1) analyze the level of understanding of the dangers of online game addiction of the experimental group students before (pretest) and after (posttest) given information services with a problem based learning model, (2) analyze the level of understanding of the dangers of online game addiction of control group students before ( pretest) and after (posttest) given information services, (3) testing the effectiveness of information services using a problem based learning model to prevent online game addiction. This study uses a quasi-experimental quantitative method of non-equivalent control group design. The research sample was class XI SMAN 13 Padang as many as 15 students in the experimental group and 15 students in the control group. The sample used was purposive sampling. Statistical analysis used is descriptive analysis and non-parametric statistics. The results showed that (1) there was an increase in the understanding of the dangers of online game addiction by the experimental group students before and after being given information services using a problem based learning model, (2) there was an increase in the understanding of the dangers of online game addiction by the control group students before and after being provided with information services, ( 3) there is a significant difference in the level of understanding of the dangers of online game addiction by the experimental group students who were provided with information services using a problem based learning model with the control group which was only provided with information services. Thus, information services using a problembased learning model are more effective in preventing students' online game addiction.

The International Journal Of Alcohol And Drug Research, 4(1), 61-69. doi:http://dx.doi.org/10.7895/ijadr.v4i1.201Aims: This study explores the effect of cultural context and group-level factors on the views held by treatment professionals in France and Finland about addiction and the dangers of illicit drugs.Design: Cross-cultural survey.Setting: Similar questionnaires were mailed to professionals working in specialized addiction treatment units in both countries.Participants: In Finland, 520 treatment providers working personally with clients responded, and 472 responded in France. The samples differed in several ways. Most notably, the medical profession was more dominant in France, while social work and counselling dominated in Finland.Measures: In addition to demographics, the questions covered different addictions, and included questions on the levels of danger of heroin, amphetamines and cannabis for individuals and the society.Findings: Consistent cultural differences appeared in the views of Finnish and French professionals regarding the addictiveness of illicit drugs and their level of danger to society. These differences remained significant after controlling for professions and other background variables.Conclusions: Cultural context, local prevalence of high-risk behaviors, familiarity with the substance, country of residence, and level of education appeared as major modifiers of risk perceptions.

Online games are now the new mainstream of the gaming industry due to their ability to reach a wide range of people, especially children and young people, who may encounter negative impacts from playing online games. Therefore, this study aimed to examine measures to prevent addiction to games and the dangers caused by playing online games among children and youth by using various research and development processes. This research employed a purposive sampling technique with public and private stakeholders. The results showed that measures to prevent game addiction and the dangers caused by playing online games set for schools can be summarized as Prevent - Investigate - Precautionary - Activity creation – Remedy (PIPAR). Implementing the results from research studies emphasizes on driving at all levels concretely. As for the practical level, it should be implemented in an integrated way with routine tasks and operate in a network to promote creative online games and prevent game addiction and the dangers caused by games to youngsters on a continual and sustainable basis.

Different educational programs aim to reduce or control Internet addiction. These are based on a traditional methodology that can be recognized as an exposition or master class (participatory or not). In this type of educational programs the student acquires a passive role since they are focused on informing the students of the dangers associated with the development of Internet addiction, but not on the treatment or changes in behavior. If we review these educational programs it can see how they have little effect on students. For this reason, a new educational program approach has been created that fights or limits Internet addiction through a methodological proposal that also focuses on increasing digital competence while limiting or controlling the evolution of Internet addiction. In this article, the design is presented.

Methadone is a long-acting synthetic opioid with high affinity for various opioid receptors, especially for μ-opioid receptors. Methadone has been used as a successful pharmacologic intervention for the treatment of heroin dependence and acute and chronic pain. This treatment is effective for opiate addiction, reducing morbidity and mortality associated with heroin use. However, overdosing with methadone has become a growing phenomenon because of the increased availability of this drug. Patients enrolled in a methadone maintenance treatment program may become physically dependent and may experience methadone withdrawal symptoms. In this review article, there are discussed about pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of methadone, clinical symptoms of its overdose, dosage problems, detection of methadone in biological samples, treatment, and causes of methadone overdose-related deaths.

The rapid development of software applications and the increasing use of the Internet have raised many questions about the impact of this technology on the lives of adolescents, especially on “digital natives.” The advent of social networks (SNs) restructures their relationships in various ways, affecting both adolescents’ development and mental health. The present study aims to investigate uses and dangers of SNs according to a sample of 296 (166 female and 130 male) Italian middle and high schools adolescents (age range 13–18) and build a model of how SNs can turn out to be dangerous. To achieve this, twenty-four audio-recorded focus groups of Italian male and female adolescents were investigated by a Grounded Theory approach, abstracting from the transcripts the main uses and dangers of SNs and proposing a final model for the interpretation of the whole set of categories. The results highlighted two main dangers of SNs: (a) the desperate search for popularity, and (b) the exhibition of violent or offensive behavior facilitated by the sense of protection and anonymity derived from being hidden behind a virtual account. Finally, a psychological model of how SNs can turn out to be dangerous is presented. This study could be useful in developing prevention procedures against the risks of SNs (e.g., cyberbullying, internet addiction) without demonizing the use of social media as such.

Juo yra apibūdinami žmonės, turintys liguistų polinkių. Bendras asmenų, priklausomų nuo alkoholio, narkotikų, azartinių žaidimų, sekso, maisto ir kt., bruožas yra bejėgiškumas prieš savo ligą. Bet kokią priklausomybę galima apibūdinti kaip besikartojančią elgseną, kuri trumpam sumažina nemalonią emocinią būseną ar ją susilpnina, bet ilgainiui, toks pasikartojantis elgesys kuria tą įtampą keliančią būseną. Priklausomybę sukelia ne vartojama medžiaga ar daiktas, o tokios medžiagos ar daikto vartojimas (naudojimas), siekiant emocinės pusiausvyros. Didžioji dalis žmonių kenčiame nuo vienokio ar kitokio liguisto potraukio. Grafikos darbuose pagrindiniu akcentu tampa žmogus. Kiekviename kūrinyje atsiranda užuomina apie pagrindinį priklausomybių objektą. Vaizduojamos žmogaus kūno dalys ar jų užuominos. Darbuose iškyla geometrinių formų elementai. In the Master works collection "Black Fire" goes about the dangers of addiction. The word "addiction" has many different meanings. It describes people who have morbid propensity. General feature of persons, who are addicted to alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, food, etc.., is helplessness before his illness. The man becomes the main focus of graphic works. The hint about the main object dependencies appears in each piece. The human body parts or clues are represented in this work. There are elements of geometric shapes. It's like warning signs icons, which have to warn about the risk in each human environment. Often the person does not see a risk. Creative works promote to think and feel. Works require emotional contact. Work problem - addiction. Any addiction can be defined as the recurrent behavior, which temporarily reduces unpleasant emotional state or to weaken it, but eventually, this repetitive behavior create intense status. Dependence is not caused by the substance or object is used, but the use of a substance or object (usage), for emotional balance. Most of the people suffer from some kind of addiction. Topicality of the work is related to today's society obsessed with various addictions. This is proved by a variety of behaviors that arise addiction of illness. In this article, Rune K. L. Nielsen critically examines the World Health Organization's decision to include "Gaming Disorder" as a "disorder due to addictive behavior" in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). Whether gaming should be recognized as an addictive behavior is hotly debated in the research community. Nielsen argues that the current debate is not likely to subside any time soon as both sides surprisingly agree that we don't know e.g., what Gaming Disorder is, what it looks like, how dangerous or problematic it is, or whether it is best understood as a disorder or as a symptom.

Taking into consideration the gradually widespread use of the internet, children are thought to be an important group both in terms of the time they spend on the internet and the dangers they will be exposed to in the virtual world. Internet addiction is essentially a type of behavioral addiction, characterized by a certain behavioral pattern, which is confronted with both physical, psychological, and social consequences. The research aims to establish a correlation between children's addiction to computer games with the cyber violence that they may be exposed to base on this addiction. For this reason, this study is a systematic review that aims to examine the effects of computer addiction as a subtype of internet addiction, which is a type of behavioral addiction, on children and its relationship with cyber violence. The research significantly contributes to the literature by revealing the effects of COVID-19 on children's addiction to computer games and the correlation of children's addiction to computer games with cyber violence.

Abstract While cigarette smoking has long been called the number one preventable cause of cardio-vascular disease and cancer, the hazards of smokeless tobacco use only have recently come under scrutiny. Statements by the Surgeon General and the National Institutes of Health have now warned Americans about the potential health dangers of regular use of snuff or chewing tobacco. In 1986, a special report of the Surgeon General concluded that “oral use of smokeless tobacco represents a significant health risk and is not a safe substitute for smoking cigarettes” (USDHHS 1986).

Richard Marsh’s fiction made a significant contribution to the arguments that circulated during the 1890s about aesthetics and the commodification of culture. The plots of sensational popular novels and the sights and sounds of the music hall were all deemed unworthy, addiction-inducing forces by cultural commentators at the time. This chapter focuses on The Mystery of Philip Bennion’s Death (1892/1897), a murder-mystery novel in which a work of art – a poisoned Renaissance cabinet – apparently kills its owner, a collector of curios: the dangers of art could hardly be more pressing. Marsh’s novel looks back on a century of writers who have associated fine art with crime, from De Quincey’s provocation that murder could be a fine art to Pater’s and Wilde’s interest in the aesthetics of transgression and the entertaining nature of murder. This chapter explores how Marsh's writing was at the heart of 1890s debates about collecting, aestheticism and decadence.

I have said that the dangers of catastrophe are growing. One reason is the rise of apocalyptic terrorism. Another, however—because many of the catastrophic risks are either created or amplified by science and technology—is the breakneck pace of scientific and technological advance. A clue to that pace is that between 1980 and 2000 the average annual growth rate of scientific and engineering employment in the United States was 4.9 percent, more than four times the overall employment growth rate. Growth in the number of scientific personnel of the other countries appears to have been slower, but still significant, though statistics are incomplete. Of particular significance is the fact that the cost of dangerous technologies, such as those of nuclear and biological warfare, and the level of skill required to employ them are falling, which is placing more of the technologies within reach of small nations, terrorist gangs, and even individual psychopaths. Yet, great as it is, the challenge of managing the catastrophic risks is receiving less attention than is lavished on social issues of far less intrinsic significance, such as race relations, whether homosexual marriage should be permitted, the size of the federal deficit, drug addiction, and child pornography. Not that these are trivial issues. But they do not involve potential extinction events or the modestly less cataclysmic variants of those events. So limited is systematic analysis of the catastrophic risks that there are no estimates of what percentage either of the federal government’s total annual research and development (R & D) expenditures (currently running at about $120 billion), or of its science and technology expenditures (that is, R & D minus the D), which are about half the total R & D budget, are devoted to protection against them. Not that R & D is the only expenditure category relevant to the catastrophic risks. But it is a very important one. We do know that federal spending on defense against the danger of terrorism involving chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear weapons rose from $368 million in 2002 (plus $203 million in a supplemental appropriation) to more than $2 billion in 2003.

The research represents the active area of science, as a thinking model that responds to new challenges through the competitive search for innovative solutions to current issues in several ways: the global availability and veracity of scientific sources, the configuration of priority fields, the reconfiguration of traditional fields, etc. The scientific component is increasingly linked to the emergence of the informational, communicational and computational paradigm. The context of systemic polycrises at the beginning of the 21st century of different type has energized and revolutionized some fields and revealed specific issues in different spheres and regions. These fundamental mutations are also a turning point for rethinking and building the intelligent future of education and research. The dangerous scenarios of the 21st century, during which catastrophes, bio-terrorism and wars continue, impose the need for constant innovation, regular paradigm shifts, globalization of research efforts, technological capacity and securing resources in different fields, which is a gateway to a new laboratory of the spirit. We are in the presence of a global innovation, the integration of man and the social body in the universe of science. Today the development of research, which involves the interaction of soft/human (itarian) sciences with hard/exact ones, is seconded by the “moralization”/confrontation/normalization of the relations between these fields. Only the coagulated synergies of the active and the passive approach can capture the evolution of the research and education approach in its fundamental complexity. We are convinced that the dialogue of our ideas and knowledge can lead to a high academic endeavor, in the true sense of universitas.

Анотація:
The article shows the importance of creation of content line of the discipline “Information Communication Technologies” to ensure psychological safety of students in virtual environment. Wide development and application of information technologies is an external side of information civilization, the main trend in formation of information society. Like any other process, the process of informatization of the society has both positive and negative sides. To avoid the latter cause irreparable harm to the development of personality and become dangerous for it, they should be studied already now, and possible consequences of digital addiction, leading to desocialization, mechanical way of thinking, inability to cope with creative tasks, problems with psychological and physical health, should be prevented. To ensure psychological safety in the context of student’s future profession, the tasks of the ICT course should be relevant, topical, and consequently interesting to the student in terms of their practical orientation in combination with mandatory elements of independence. The content analysis, carried out as a result of pedagogical experiment, has revealed competence of students in problems, related to the use of network technologies in daily life and in educational environment. Discussions, seminars, brainstorming have revealed information literacy of high school students, their understanding and ability to resist the influence of the worldwide web. The student audience sees Internet as a tool for the development of the society, on the one hand, and a threat to the development of personality, on the other. Their information literacy lies in the ability to solve identified problems. Education of an active, thinking consumer of information is the main credo, one of the main aims of the discipline, which teaches information technologies, its psychological and pedagogical task.
