Fiery pool: the Maya and the mythic sea is a travelling exhibition of nearly 100 finds that, together, imply a specific concept of the environment, physical and spiritual, for the Maya of Mesoamerica. As usual, the majority are from ‘public’ contexts, more or less aristocratic; but the exhibition generalises about Maya culture. Most of the exhibits are of the Classic period (c. AD 250–900), predominantly Late Classic, but there are some earlier pieces and several of the Postclassic (to the Spanish Conquest). Some are well known and there are striking new finds too. Curated by Daniel Finamore & Stephen Houston, Fiery pool draws from more than 40 collections in the USA, Mexico, Central America and further afield. It was shown at the Peabody Essex Museum, in Salem, Massachusetts, in 2010, and the Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth, Texas, in 2010–11. It is now in Missouri, at the St Louis Art Museum, where its tour finishes on 8 May 2011.

The concept of "active" molecular models was proposed. The Maya-K-PDB software for the creation of active molecular models in the 3D Maya environment was developed. The Maya-K-PDB provides various opportunities for dynamic visualization and modeling of conformational changes of biological macromolecules. Also many complicated processes on molecular level can be presented. The article describes the Maya-K-PDB user interface and illustrates basic examples of software implementation.

A textile with its threads, its weft, and warp, for the western ontology, is a simple utilitarian object or a body adornment. This study will discuss the wrapping among the Maya, starting from concepts present in ancient and contemporary Maya thought to identify the ontological character of some ceremonial textiles present in these societies. Based on an approach proposed by the ontological archaeology, I will discuss the conceptual proximity between the terms pix (to wrap, to cover) and pixan (soul, or something that is received from the other world), to think of the wrap as an element of articulation between the two ontological spaces, allowing the presence of beings and entities of the cosmos in Maya cities of the Classic and contemporary periods. By generating the materialization and performance of these beings, wraps create relational fields that activate these entities temporarily in ordinary space, establishing effective contact with the Maya cosmos. A brief analysis of these Textile Beings present during the Classic Period will be discussed as a case study, in order to consider such a conceptual proposal.

AbstractI criticize recent applications of the “cosmogram” concept to ancient Maya architecture and cities. Although cosmograms—graphic representations of aspects of the cosmos—are known from Late Postclassic and early colonial Aztec and Maya sources, there is no textual suggestion that buildings or cities were viewed as cosmograms. Numerous authors, however, assert confidently that architectural cosmograms abounded in Classic Maya cities. I examine known cosmograms, describe recent studies of architectural cosmograms, and discuss problems that occur when highly speculative interpretations are phrased as confident empirical findings.

The similarities of literature and human unconsciousness has been proved by many analysis or interpretation over several literary works. Nowadays, a psychoanalysis over literary works is in great popularity. Even more so for the literary works which is kind of difficult to understand. Cala Ibi is a novel with form of lyrical poetry. It has a consciousness as a metafictional to represent its narration. With such a complicated development from the character, Maya, Cala Ibi represents the concept of the mirror stage. As the representation of Lacan’s conception, Cala Ibi presented a reading problem for the reader. Therefore, the reader should read Cala Ibi in the light of psychoanalysis. This paper attempt to show the main problem that caused Cala Ibi difficult to read. The aim of this paper also to explain how Lacan’s conception represented in the form of lyrical poetry. The result of the paper shows that lyrical poetry is an apt form to present the character as a chain of signification that lead the reader to know the main idea of the novel. The development of its complicated narrative has shown the reader that Cala Ibi has no beginning or end. Thus, it is a symbolization of the infinity which reflected in Maya and Maia. On the other hands, the concept of mirror stage has formed intersubjectivity as Maya identify herself to Maia and vice versa.

The ancient Maya civilization left us a significant corpus of glyphic inscriptions, a large portion of which consists of historical records, meticulously dating events and time elapsed between them – births, accessions and deaths of rulers, wars, ceremonies, visits and family relationships between royal dynasties, etc. (see Martin and Grube 2008). Time being such a prominent topic, the texts contain a number of time-related terms, including (1) event-based expressions (ti ik’ k’in ‘at black day / at dusk / at night’; i pas ‘then at dawn’; si[h]yajiiy ‘(X years) after s/he was born’), (2) conceptualizations which are potentially and likely spatial in nature as they appear both in locative expressions and temporal adverbials (preposition ti ‘in/on/at/with/as; the verb uht ‘to happen’ and deictic verb hul ‘to arrive’; tu paat + date ‘on the back of / after), and finally, (3) non-spatial metaphorical conceptualizations, such as reification and personification of the units of time. Sweetser and Gaby (2017, 626) notice that “crosslinguistically, the single primary historical source for temporal vocabulary is spatial vocabulary” and it is an overwhelming tendency observed in numerous languages around the world. Levinson and Wilkins (2006c, 6) also pose an interesting question how much spatial information is coded in language and how much is inferred from context and our knowledge of the world around us. The concept of space being so basic and significant, surprisingly little has been published on how space was conceptualized in Maya texts of the Classic Period (250-950 CE). Thus, this paper investigates how the domain of space is coded in Classic Mayan, a grapholect recorded in Maya glyphic inscriptions, how the language expresses relationships of containment, contiguity and adjacency, the manner and path of motion events, as well as available frames of reference to locate objects which are separated in space.

Time is an abstract concept that has been examined relatively less by Americanist archaeologists as compared to Europeanists. The lack of consideration of time is particularly curious among Mayanists, because the Classic Maya assiduously recorded events in the lives of rulers and their kingdoms according to time's passage in multiple, precisely calibrated calendars. This essay examines some of the ways in which time has been conceptualized, and its political and economic roles explored, by anthropologists, sociologists, historians, and others. I apply these findings to the evolution of calendars in Mesoamerica and their function in underwriting early leadership positions, such as that of shamans or “daykeepers.” I explore the role of time in structuring late (Postclassic) Maya geopolitical organization and the possibility that such principles also guided that of the Classic Maya. Time, calendars, and particularly the movements of the sun came to be viewed as being “controlled” by Maya sacred kings, aided by their retinue of daykeepers/calendar priests. This awesome cosmopolitical power led to the identification of the king with the sun and his legitimization through control of the means of social and cosmic reproduction.

American avant-garde filmmaker Maya Deren is highly acclaimed as one of the pioneers of film dance, but her final film The Very Eye of Night (1952–55, released 1959) is largely neglected in the dance field. In that silenced, marginalized cases shed light on the discursive contour of the field, I examine not only Deren's intention of the film but also assumptions and rationales upon which scholars and critics ignored the film. I argue that the medium-specific and modernist concept of dance film, which Deren herself initially introduced into the field, contributes to the film's ignorance in dance scholarship. Also, the use of ballet is another impeding factor as its anti-gravitational quality and classical implication do not befit textual and sociocultural expectations of dance scholars for Deren's film.

Abstract Sacred trees, representing the power of life to grow from the underworld realm of the dead, are a common motif in the art and literature of the ancient Maya of Mesoamerica. Such trees are similar in concept to the tree of life described in the Book of Mormon, as well as to the mythic traditions of many other contemporary world cultures. Hieroglyphic inscriptions and sixteenth-century highland Maya texts describe a great world tree that was erected at the dawn of the present age to stand as the axis point of the cosmos. In its fruit-laden form, it personified the god of creation who fathered the progenitors of the Maya royal dynasty.

The first section is a literary analysis of such works as Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye, Gloria Naylor's The Women of Brewster Place, Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Alice Walker's "If the Present Looks Like the Past, What Does the Future Look Like?" an essay from her collection In Search of Our Mothers' Gardens. The second section is a research project based on data gathered from 12 African American females willing to share their own experiences and insights on colorism. The final section is a creative non-fiction piece of the author's own personal pain growing up and living with the lasting effects of colorism.

O insucesso escolar e o autoconceito têm sido objeto de diversos estudos ao longo dos tempos, dada a sua relevância para a vida profissional, pessoal, social e emocional dos indivíduos. Esta pesquisa pretendeu verificar a relação existente entre as duas variáveis supramencionadas na área escolar da Maia, ilha de S. Miguel, através de um estudo descritivo misto. Procurou-se estudar o autoconceito de alunos com e sem insucesso escolar e, ao mesmo tempo, fazer o levantamento da perceção dos seus professores sobre estas duas temáticas. Para atingir estes objetivos, foram formuladas três hipóteses de investigação, as quais passaram por relacionar o nível de autoconceito dos alunos com o número de retenções, com o número de permanências no mesmo nível e com o número de insuficientes no Ciclo e, simultaneamente, comparar estes resultados aos dos alunos sem insucesso escolar. Após a aplicação da Escala de Autoconceito para Crianças de Piers-Harris (versão de Veiga, 2006) aos alunos de nível III e IV da referida área escolar e da realização de duas sessões de Grupos Focados aos professores dos alunos em estudo, concluiu-se que o autoconceito é mais baixo em alunos que já tiveram retenções, que já tiveram permanências no nível e que já tiveram alguma menção insuficiente, confirmando-se a correlação anteriormente descrita. Por outro lado, a análise dos dados obtidos através dos Grupos Focados permitiu verificar que os docentes consideram possível uma relação entre insucesso escolar e autoconceito, mas pouco fazem nas suas aulas para promover este último nos seus alunos. Por esta razão, a presente investigação pretendeu sensibilizar professores, órgãos de gestão e tutela para a aplicação de programas de promoção do autoconceito enquanto um possível meio de melhoria do sucesso escolar, fazendo diminuir as dificuldades de muitos alunos. Neste seguimento, e ainda que este estudo não permita apontar o autoconceito como uma das causas do insucesso escolar, o que é facto é que esta correlação existe e deve estar presente aquando da organização de programas e currículos. School failure and self-concept have been the subject of numerous studies over time, given its relevance to the professional, personal, social and emotional development of individuals. This research intended to verify the existence of a correlation between these two variables (self-concept and school failure), through a study in school area of Maia, S. Miguel’s island. This research intended to study the student’s self-concept with and without failure at school and, at the same time, check the perception of their teachers on these two themes. To achieve these goals, three research hypotheses were formulated, which began by relating the degree of student’s self-concept with the number of retentions, with the number of stays at the same level and with the number of insufficient grades, and simultaneously compare these results to the results of students without school failure. After applying the Piers-Harris Self-Concept Scalde for Children – PHSCSC (version of Veiga, 2006) to students at level III and IV of that school area and doing two sessions of Focus Groups with their teachers, it was concluded that the self-concept is lower in students who have had retentions, who have had stays in the level and who have had negative grades, confirming the correlation described above. On the other hand, the analysis of the data given by the Focus Groups allowed us to conclude that teachers consider a possible relationship between self-concept and school failure, but don’t do enough in their classrooms to promote student’s self-concept. Thus, this research aims to sensitize teachers, management and guardianship for the implementation of programs to promote self-concept as a possible mean of promoting educational success and to lessen the difficulties of many students. Although we can’t imply that the self-concept is one of the causes of school failure, the truth is that the relationship exists and that should be taken into account in the organization of programs and curricula.

Research in the Graduate Program in Information Science UFPB around the construction of a conceptual map of a domain ontology. The mapping process relied on analysis of the domain, conducting surveys that involved issues ranging from determining the appropriate side view until the capture of terms and concepts contained in the sources of information about the analyzed field. The corpus of study selected is classified by the Instituto do Patrimônio Artístico Histórico Nacional IPHAN, as Intangible Heritage. Much more of a theoretical, research purposed to describe how the lifting of a given area must be driven from its aspect of knowledge representation and how is the establishment of relations between terms and concepts, preliminary step in the development of ontologies and domain central objective of this work. No attempt to develop an ontology in the context of artificial intelligence, computational logic through, and even develop a new methodology, but the rescue and application of methods has long worked for CI today and the technologies needed for representation and retrieval of information, focusing on the Core Principles for Domains Modeling (CAMPOS, 2004). Reasoned from the strong interdisciplinary character of CI, the proposal was to map the area within the cutout area of the Intangible Heritage, through methodological triangulation, identifying the representations of signs that exist in information processes and representational knowledge based on analysis Semiotics (PEIRCE , 1977), Theory of the Concept of Dahlberg (1976) and graphical representation of conceptual maps (Novak,1995).
Pesquisa realizada no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciência da Informação da UFPB, em torno da construção de um mapa conceitual de uma ontologia de domínio. O processo de mapeamento se apoiou na análise do domínio, realizando levantamentos que envolveram questões que vão desde a determinação do recorte adequado, até a captura dos termos e conceitos constantes nas fontes de informação sobre o domínio analisado. O corpus de estudo selecionado é classificado pelo Instituto de Patrimônio Artístico Histórico Nacional IPHAN, como Patrimônio Imaterial. Muito mais de caráter teórico, a pesquisa tencionou descrever como o levantamento de determinado domínio deve ser conduzido a partir do seu aspecto de representação do conhecimento e como se dá o estabelecimento das relações entre termos e conceitos, etapa preliminar no desenvolvimento de ontologias de domínio e objetivo central desse trabalho. Não se buscou desenvolver uma ontologia no âmbito da inteligência artificial, através da lógica computacional, e nem mesmo desenvolver uma nova metodologia, mas o resgate e aplicação de métodos há muito trabalhado pela CI e hoje necessários para as tecnologias de representação e recuperação da informação, tendo como foco os Princípios Fundamentais para Modelagem de Domínios (CAMPOS, 2004). Fundamentada a partir da forte característica interdisciplinar da CI, a proposta foi mapear o domínio dentro da área de recorte do Patrimônio Imaterial, através de uma triangulação metodológica, identificando as representações sígnicas existentes nos processos informacionais e representacionais do conhecimento com base na análise Semiótica (PEIRCE, 1977); Teoria do Conceito de Dahlberg (1976) e representação gráfica dos Mapas conceituais (NOVAK, 1995).

En partant des reflexions de piaget et de vygotsky nous presentons de nouvelles approches a la formation de la pensee categorielle. Nous soulignons l'interet des modeles qui postulent l'importance developpementale des premieres representations construites a partir des routines quotidiennes, notamment du modele de nelson issu du cognitivisme developpemental, mais ou les principes socio-pragmatiques sont presents. La partie empirique comprend deux situations ou nous etudions les meres avec leurs enfants de 1-2 a 7-8 ans : une situation de parler/raconter a propos de planches d'animaux et de fleurs et une situation d'interaction ludique avec des objets representant des animaux et des fleurs. Les analyses portent sur les types de discours produits, les informations concernant les noyaux conceptuels, les activites a caractere categoriel effectuees par les enfants et les outils semiotiques utilises dans l'etayage des meres. La troisieme etude evalue les conduites categorielles des enfants de 8-9 ans sur une serie de taches experimentales. Les resultats montrent que l'evolution genetique, dans la maitrise d'une organisation aussi complexe que la taxonomie des categories naturelles, est intrinseque a des changements au niveau de la structuration des situations interactives et a la decontextualisation progressive des moyens semiotiques. Ils mettent en evidence le role du langage et des representations schematiques dans le processus de construction du systeme hierarchique des categories abstraites.

The "demise" of Native American cultures and the possibility of their "renascence" is the subject of the literary work analyzed in this thesis. The German popular novelist Karl May (1842-1912) aspired to write the epic drama of the American Indians. Using randomly selected anthropological and linguistic information, he described particularly Apache and Comanche Indian cultures with regard to leadership, warfare, women, and intermarriage. May viewed the Indians' assimilation as necessary and arrogantly recommended the "benign" influence brought by Germans to the New World. The Indians would be able to withstand the lure of "Yankee" materialism and pursue the path of righteousness. As this thesis points out, there is a correlation between Karl May's biography and his compassion for a wronged people such as the Native Americans. This study analyzes Karl May's thoughts on the "Indian question" and his emphasis on the role of change.

Esta pesquisa foi motivada pela identificação da dificuldade de encontrar, compreender e gerenciar as informações na web, considerando a necessidade de uma metodologia específica para a organização das informações em ambiente digital e que não existem padrões definidos que tornem os conceitos e os assuntos compreensíveis. É necessário manter uma lógica clara e que faça sentido para o usuário. Foram analisadas hipóteses para validar a organização da informação da web sob a perspectiva da Organização e Representação da Informação, a partir da taxonomia e da linguagem documentária com o auxílio do mapa conceitual (ferramenta criada com base na Psicologia da Aprendizagem). A terminologia foi apresentada para identificação de termos e definições relacionadas ao mapa conceitual, verificando como este pode auxiliar na construção de taxonomias de navegação para a web. Realizou-se levantamento teórico e metodológico sobre mapa conceitual: definições, aplicações, características. Analisou-se também como ocorre a ligação dos conceitos que se relacionam entre si através de proposições no mapa conceitual, para compreender o todo através de cada uma de suas partes interligadas. Foram identificados alguns tipos de mapas conceituais, e para esta pesquisa especificamente foi utilizado o tipo hierárquico, que está diretamente relacionado com a taxonomia dentro de uma complexidade estrutural. A taxonomia por sua vez foi analisada sob a perspectiva da organização da informação no ambiente web. Foram identificadas suas definições, usos, relação com a organização da informação e com o mapa conceitual. Por se tratar do contexto web, os conceitos do design de interface foram abordados, contextualizando e relacionando de forma aplicada a representação da informação. Para exemplificar a construção do mapa conceitual foi utilizado o software CMap Tools mostrando como é possível organizar informações da web, partindo de premissas utilizadas na Ciência da Informação. Com base na pesquisa bibliográfica, nas análises realizadas e no exemplo criado, mostrou-se que o mapa conceitual é uma ferramenta que auxilia na construção de taxonomia e que essas premissas são reforçadas inclusive por pesquisadores de outras áreas como Design e Ciência da Computação, que ressaltam a importância da taxonomia para representar a informação e a relação de satisfação do usuário quando encontra o que procura.
This research was motivated by the identification of finding out, comprehending and managing informations on the web - considering the necessity of a specific methodology to organize informations in a digital environment, and also that does not exist a defined pattern that make the concepts and issues comprehensible. It\'s necessary to maintain a clear logic that makes sense to the user. Hypothesis were analyzed to validate the information organization on the web from the Information\'s Organization and Representation perspective, from the taxonomy and documentary language with the concept map (software created based on the Psychology of Learning) support. The terminology was introduced to identificate terms and definitions related to the concept map, verifying how it can help on the construction of navigating taxonomy for the web. A theoretical and methodologic survey about the concept map was made, investigating: definitions, applications and features. We also analyzed the connection between concepts that relate to each other through the prepositions on the concept map, to comprehend it all through its interconnected parts. A few types of concept maps were identified, and to this specific research the hierarchic type was used, which is directly related to the taxonomy within a structural complexity. The taxonomy, otherwise, was analyzed from the information\'s organization on the web perspective. Were identified its definitions, applications and the relation with the information\'s organization and with the concept map. Because it\'s the web concept, the concepts of user interface were used, contextualizing and relating to the representation of the information in an applied way. The software CMap Tools was used to exemplify the construction of a concept map, showing how it\'s possible to organize informations on the web, based upon the premises used in Science Information. Basing it upon the bibliography research, on the technical analyzes and on the created exemple, it showed that the concept map is a software that helps on the taxonomy constructions, and that these premises are reinforced by researchers from other areas, like Design and Computer Science, that emphasize the importance of taxonomy in representing the information and the satisfaction the user feels when finds what was being searched.

O presente trabalho tem o objetivo principal de discutir os mapas conceituais, tratados como objetos de ensino-aprendizagem e orientação metodológica na Área de Conhecimento Ciências Naturais e Matemática à luz das Orientações Curriculares para Educação Básica no Estado de Mato Grosso (abreviadas por OCs/MT). Com base nessa orientação dirigida para as escolas de Ensino Médio mato-grossenses, elabora uma proposta didática sobre os mapas conceituais ancorada nas práticas sociais, um dos principais princípios legais educacionais brasileiro (BRASIL, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2013), como também no princípio educacional das OCs/MT (MATO GROSSO, SEDUC, 2012). Para tal propósito, este trabalho científico estabelece como aporte teórico da aprendizagem significativa de David Ausubel (1963, 1981, 2000) e em sua apropriação à produção dos mapas conceituais por Joseph Novak (1981, 1984). Como também, fundamenta-se em alguns princípios da Teoria de Aprendizagem Significativa Crítica à luz dos estudos de Marco Antonio Moreira (1997, 2000, 2005, 2006, 2010) presentes nas OCs/MT da Área de Ciências da Natureza e Matemática. A fim de realizar isso, enfatiza o papel da linguagem e de sua natureza social em conformidade com a perspectiva das práticas sociais. Por essa razão, alicerça-se na acepção sócio-histórica de Lev S. Vygotsky aplicada ao ensino-aprendizagem da linguagem pela interação social, e, principalmente nos mapas como ferramentas psicológicas (VYGOTSKY, 1930, 1933, 1934). Ainda, no ponto de vista social e histórico de Vygotsky, leva-se em consideração as premissas vigotskianas sobre a linguagem (RINALDI, SANTOS, 2011) e também toma em conta, no escopo deste trabalho, a linguagem como práticas sociais e como práticas básicas de atividades humanas no ambiente social (LURIA, 1955, 1974, 1979, 1991, LURIA & YUDOVICH, 1959, 1987) e principalmente como práticas de linguagens (BRAIT & ROJO, 2002; ROJO, 2006). No nível metodológico, assume a natureza qualitativa e a pesquisa-ação colaborativa com a aplicação de questionário de perguntas abertas para dez professores de uma escola pública estadual no município de Várzea Grande, Estado de Mato Grosso. Assim, em nível de metodologia da pesquisa, também adota-se uma triangulação de dados voltada para o objeto do conhecimento - mapas conceituais; práticas de uso da linguagem dos professores; e metodologia de orientação como disposto nas OCs/MT. Do ponto de vista do nível de análise de dados, as respostas quanti-qualitativas dos questionários e nossa observação aplicadas trazem à tona a análise das atividades e os tratamentos de práticas de uso da linguagem pelos professores. Especificamente para a análise de dados das práticas de leitura e escrita dos professores, os dados revelaram as práticas de linguagens notacionais, um diagnóstico muito relevante que orientou diretrizes para a elaboração de um modelo de nossa proposta didática. Finalmente, a partir de análises de dados, este trabalho propõe uma orientação didática de produção de mapas conceituais que contemplam as práticas de linguagem no Ensino Médio de escolas públicas estaduais de Mato Grosso.
The present work has the main purpose of discussing the conceptual maps, treated as a teaching and learning objects and methodological orientation in the field of knowledge of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, in the light of Curriculum Guidelines for Basic Education in Mato Grosso`s state (abbreviated OCs/MT). Based on Ocs/MT directed to Mato Grosso`s Secondaries Schools, it elaborates a didactic proposal on the conceptual maps anchored in social practices, one of main education´s principles in the Brazilian educational legal guidelines (BRAZIL, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2013), as well as the educational principle in the OCs/MT (MATO GROSSO, SEDUC, 2012). For such purpose, this scientific work establishes as the theoretical framework from David Ausubel´s Meaningful Learning (1963, 1981, 2000) and in its appropriation to the production of conceptual maps by Joseph Novak (1981,1984). As well as, it is based on some principles of Critical Meaningful Learning Theory in the light of studies of Marco Antonio Moreira (1997, 2000, 2005, 2006, 2010) present in OCs/MT from Natural Sciences and Mathematics` field of knowledge. In order to accomplish this, it emphasizes the role of language and its social nature in accordance with the perspective of social practices. For this reason, is founded on the socio-historical standpoint from Lev S. Vygotsky applied to language teaching and learning by social interactions, and mainly on the maps as psychological tools (VYGOTSKY, 1930, 1933, 1934). Still, in the basis from Vygotsky´s social and historical point of view, it takes into consideration the vygotskyan assumptions about language (RINALDI, SANTOS, 2011) and also takes into account, in the scope of this work, the language as social practice and as basic practices of human activities the social environment (LURIA, 1955, 1974, 1979, 1991; LURIA & YUDOVICH, 1959, 1987) and mainly as language practices (BRAIT & ROJO, 2002; ROJO, 2006). On the methodological level, it assumes the qualitative nature analysis on quantitative collected data and also the collaborative action-research with the application of opened-question questionnaire to ten teachers from a public state school in the municipality of Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso´s state. Thus on the research´s methodology level, it also adopts a data triangulation focused on the knowledge object – conceptual maps; teachers´ practices language usage; and orientation methodology showed in the OCs/MT. From the standpoint of data analysis level, the quanti-qualitative responses of the questionnaires and our observation applied bring to the fore the analysis of the activities and the treatments of practices of language usage by the teachers. Specifically to the data analysis of reading and writing practices of the teachers, the data revealed the notational practices of language usage, a data diagnostic very relevant which it has oriented guidelines for creating a model of our didactic proposal. Finally, from the data analyses, this work proposes a didactic guidance of conceptual maps production which contemplates the practices of language in the high school from Mato Grosso´s public state schools.

Os mapas conceituais são recursos pedagógicos utilizados como forma de representar graficamente parte do conhecimento, armazenado na memória de longo prazo dos alunos. As proposições são as unidades básicas constituintes dos mapas conceituais e podem apresentar natureza estática ou dinâmica. Os mapas conceituais por sua natureza levam ao estabelecimento de proposições estáticas. Uma representação adequada do conhecimento pressupõe o estabelecimento dos dois tipos de proposições. A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar a influência da utilização de um conceito obrigatório quantificado, na rede proposicional dos mapas conceituais produzidos pelos alunos em duas condições: (1) conceito obrigatório fixo (utilizado como conceito inicial de leitura do mapa conceitual) e (2) conceito obrigatório móvel (utilizado em uma posição escolhida pelo estudante). Os mapas conceituais elaborados foram avaliados com base nas análises (1) da natureza das proposições; (2) da localização do conceito obrigatório quantificado na condição conceito obrigatório quantificado móvel; (3) da estrutura e da natureza das proposições estabelecidas com a utilização do conceito obrigatório quantificado e (4) da rede proposicional quanto à aderência à pergunta focal. Os resultados obtidos a partir dessas análises demonstraram que: (1) os padrões de mapas conceituais elaborados nas duas condições são semelhantes quanto a natureza das proposições; (2) uma grande parcela dos alunos (n=7; 22,8%) utilizou o conceito obrigatório como inicial na condição conceito obrigatório móvel; (3) O número médio de proposições estabelecidas, utilizando o conceito obrigatório quantificado como conceito inicial, foi maior na condição 1 em comparação com a condição 2 (t=2,47) e o número médio de proposições estabelecidas com a utilização do conceito obrigatório quantificado, como conceito final, foi menor na condição 1 em comparação com a condição 2 (t= -1,72); (4) Não houve diferença estatística entre o número médio de mapas conceituais cujas redes proposicionais aderiram à pergunta focal, na comparação entre as condições 1 e 2 (t=0,46). Com base nos resultados obtidos a partir das análises, a hipótese de trabalho: há diferença na rede proposicional do mapa conceitual, quando se utiliza um conceito quantificado como conceito inicial de leitura do mapa conceitual, em comparação com a utilização de um conceito quantificado em qualquer outra parte do mapa conceitual, foi parcialmente refutada.
Concept maps are pedagogical resources used as a way to represent graphically part of the knowledge stored in long-term memory of the students. The propositions are the basic units constituents of conceptual maps and can display static or dynamic nature. Concept maps by their nature lead to the establishment of static propositions. Adequate representation of knowledge requires the establishment of two types of propositions. This research aimed to evaluate the influence of the use of a compulsory concept quantified in propositional network of concept maps produced by the students in two conditions: (1) fixed compulsory concept (used as initial reading concept of the concept map) and (2) mobile compulsory concept (used in a position chosen by the student). The elaborated concept maps were evaluated on analyzes (1) the nature of propositions; (2) the location of the compulsory concept quantified in the required quantified mobile rating condition; (3) the structure and nature of propositions established using the binding concept quantified and (4) of propositional network for adherence to the focal question. The results obtained from these analyzes demonstrated that: (1) standards of concept maps developed in the two conditions are similar and the nature of propositions; (2) a large proportion of students (n = 7, 22.8%) used the concept as required initial concept in mobile compulsory concept condition; (3) The average number of propositions established using the binding concept quantified as initial concept was higher in condition 1 in comparison with the condition 2 (t = 2.47) and the average number of propositions established using the binding concept quantified as the final concept was lower in condition 1 in comparison with the condition 2 (t = -1.72); (4) There was no statistical difference between the average number of concept maps whose propositional networks joined the focal question, the comparison between the conditions 1 and 2 (t = 0.46). Based on the results obtained from the analyzes, the working hypothesis: no difference in the propositional network concept map, when using a quantized concept as initial concept read the concept map, compared with the use of a concept quantified in any another part of the conceptual map, was partially disproved.

AbstractSince the adoption of the World Heritage Convention (1972), modern technologies have significantly changed the way our society behaves and operates, with an increased demand for energy, fast and reliable communications, etc. Some modern technologies might contribute to negative impacts on heritage sites, e.g. through climate change and/or excessive tourism; however, modern digital technologies can also be extremely beneficial for heritage activities. In this paper, we focus on how modern digital geo-science and geo-technology can support heritage authorities’ daily work. We introduce herein the concept of digital Geoheritage, which can help heritage authorities to discover and understand the enormous benefits that geomatics can provide for their daily heritage activities. This research case, implemented through an interdisciplinary scientific approach, originally aimed to support the preservation, restoration and management of a cultural heritage site; however, it was later expanded to also support archaeological research, stability risk assessment, planning, design, education, dissemination and promotion. The use of digital geo-sciences for the benefit of the local Maya communities living around a heritage site is also illustrated. Our objective, within the current book, was to present a paper that is oriented toward heritage authorities, and, therefore, technical language has been avoided.

Анотація:
A dynamic simulation model of the contractile function of the heart is presented. The contractile function simulation is based on the modeling of the muscle fibers' structure according to the Atlas of human anatomy and the use of parameters of their geometric shape as parameters that control the contraction. The basic concepts of the architecture of muscle fibers of the myocardium and the structure of the blood supply to the heart are investigated. An algorithm is developed for local parameterization of the contractile function of the heart, which mimics blood flow and conduction disturbances via special control functions. The algorithm of the simulation model is shown in the example of only the left ventricle of the heart but is embedded in the full three-dimensional model of the ventricular complex of the heart. The simulation model is implemented as a solid-state parameterized model in the Autodesk Maya tool environment, managed by a program in the embedded Python language. The result is compared with the results of the OpenCMISS software in favor of the latter. It is planned to continue work with the implementation of the most advanced concept of the myocardial architecture of Torrent-Guasp together with the networks of electrical excitation and blood supply.

Libraries in Indonesia are starting to compete in developing digital libraries. College, public, and regional libraries have started to develop digital libraries. The development of digital libraries is based on the consideration of providing opportunities for greater access to collections owned by libraries and adjusting the format of library services with the characteristics of users who are familiar with information technology products. Seeing the importance of digital libraries, BPAD DIY began to develop a digital library under the name I-Jogja. I-Jogja is a digital library portal developed in the Android and iOs operating systems. I-Jogja was developed using the iLibrary software created by PT. Woolu Maya script. I–Jogja offers a new concept in digital library management, where to access public collections, people do not need to download but borrow collections from the digital library portal. This digital collection lending concept is known as e-lending. Through research, the researcher aims to describe the management of I-Jogja as a new concept of digital library management. Research that researchers conducted using qualitative research methods. From this research, it is found that the text-based I-Jogja collection, to access I-Jogja must be registered in the application, functions as a means of fostering reading interest, policies related to membership and access patterns, is able to be a means of fostering reading interest, able to run on the operating system Android and iOS.

A transforming product is a system that has different functionality when physically changed or reconfigured into a different state. This increased functionality allows diverse customer needs to be met in a single product. Transforming devices have become more prevalent in recent years, as customers desire both increased capabilities and reduced complexity to reduce waste in our society. When designing a multifunctional product that transforms from one state to another, it can be difficult to conceptualize a design that does not reduce effectiveness or provide a compromise in either state. Transformational Design Theory has been developed and shows basic principles and facilitators that enable transformation to occur within a product space. An illustrative example is a chair designed to flip over to be used as a table. Flip is one of the 19 facilitators that are found in transformation design. This is also an example of expose/cover, a transformation design principle. Certain principles and facilitators are more prevalent than others in different design domains (such as tools, storage, organisms etc.). If we know the states that exist within the transformer, concept opportunity diagrams can be used to determine the opportunities for transformation within each state. When the diagrams are paired with a constituent relationship chart specific to each domain, new design concepts may be facilitated. This technique creates a cognitive process for designers where they process a series of questions when creating the concept opportunity diagram. The diagram will help them understand the unanticipated additional design space of each state. The Constituent Relationship Chart is a tool that allows them to apply their knowledge of these states to the facilitator hierarchy so that prospective facilitators can directly contribute to originally unforeseen design concepts. This paper presents this twofold process known as the Transformer Diagram Matching Method and shows the results on a fully functioning prototype of an office supply transformer. Although the proposed process is detailed, it allows the designer to find a large number of quality concepts they would not have foreseen otherwise. Our original concept generation processes produced thirty eight ideas, but this process added another thirty two ideas to the design space. The paper indicates specifically how this method can be integrated in with the standard transformational design process as well as suggests strategies for implementation within other design techniques.

A concept-based classifier can explain the decision process of a deep learning model by human understandable concepts in image classification problems. However, sometimes concept-based explanations may cause false positives, which misregards unrelated concepts as important for the prediction task. Our goal is to find the statistically significant concept for classification to prevent misinterpretation. In this study, we propose a method using a deep learning model to learn the image concept and then using the knockoff sample to select the important concepts for prediction by controlling the False Discovery Rate (FDR) under a certain value. We evaluate the proposed method in our experiments on both synthetic and real data. Also, it shows that our method can control the FDR properly while selecting highly interpretable concepts to improve the trustworthiness of the model.

Abstract A study of the concept generation abilities of individuals in a senior level mechanical engineering design class was performed. The study also examined the number of subjects identifying each concept. Results from two tests were standardized based on the number of distinct concepts identified by the sample. Sixty-five students participated. Tests were scored based on the number of concepts generated. Concepts were defined based on a categorization scheme (Pahl and Beitz, 1988). Counting the number of concepts generated and standardizing based on the sample provide measures for the study of concept generation methodologies. Between sixty and seventy percent of all concepts were identified by less than ten percent of the sample. Concepts generated by fewer than ten percent of the sample were termed uncommon and were generated by most of the sample. Design groups may generate more concepts if the each individual’s uncommon concepts are accepted by the group.

Novel, functional, and aesthetic products are thought to have a high likelihood of success in the marketplace. While making sound design decisions is a critical ability of good designers, evaluating product concepts for their future successes in the marketplace is a challenging task. In design classes, only about half of product concepts selected by student design teams may be retained and prototyped into final products, i.e., about half of student design teams find that their initial product concepts are difficult to make workable and change to different concepts by the time they create prototypes for testing. This paper investigates if electrophysiological concomitants in product concept evaluation may potentially be used to improve students’ and designers’ product concept evaluation processes. The preliminary data in this pilot study indicate that distinct decision-making processes may occur during evaluations of product concepts on novelty, functionality, and aesthetics, evidenced by brain activation differences among students.

De este texto se rescata su abordaje sobre las problemáticas urbanas, las cuales pueden ser entendidas como desencadenantes de deterioro urbano. Se aplican estos conceptos al caso de estudio para dar forma a un primer diagnóstico de la situación barrial basados en la observación empírica del mismo. The following article belongs to a PhD project whose main subject is "The urban vitality of neighborhoods of the fbeltway of the city of Córdoba: The case of the neighborhoods of the southwest area". We will try to make an approach to the concept of deteriorating urban environment on the basis of the book The Green City (La Ciudad verde, 2000) by the architect Roberto Fernández. From this text we will resort to the author's approach on the urban problematic, which may cause urban decay. We will apply this concepts to the case of study, giving shape to a first diagnosis of the neighborhood's situation.

The article examines the main features, general characteristics and essence of the concept of solutions journalism. The basic principles of functioning of this model of journalism in the western press and in Ukraine are given. The list and features of activity of the organizations, institutes and editorial offices supporting development of journalism of solutions journalism. The purpose of the publication is to describe the Solutions Journalism model: its features, characteristics and features of functioning, to find out the difference in the understanding of the concept of «solutions journalism» and «constructive journalism» in general. The task of the publication was to conceptualize the main trends in the development of solutions journalism in the Western and Ukrainian information space; show the main characteristics, formats of functioning and analyze the features of the concepts of «solutions journalism» and «constructive journalism». Applied research methods: at the stage of research of the history of formation of the concept of Solutions Journalism the historical method is used. The hermeneutic method of research helped in the interpretation of basic concepts, the phenomenological approach was applied in the context of considering the essence of the phenomenon of solutions journalism. At the stage of generalization of the features of the concepts of Solutions Journalism and «constructive journalism» a comparative method was used, which gave an understanding of the common components in their essence. The method of analysis allowed to expand the understanding of the purpose of Solutions Journalism as a type of social journalism and its main tasks. With the help of synthesis it was possible to comprehensively understand the concept of Solutions Journalism and understand its features. In Ukraine, this type of journalism is just emerging, but its introduction into the editorial policy of the media may have a national importance. These are regional and local media that can inform their communities about the positive solution of certain problems in other communities, and thus thanks to this model can save local journalism. In the scientific context, there is a need to outline the main differences in the understanding of the concepts of decision journalism and constructive journalism, to understand the socio-psychological need to create good news.

In Description Logics the reasoning service most specific concept (msc) constructs a concept description that generalizes an ABox individual into a concept description. For the Description Logic EL the msc may not exist, if computed with respect to general EL-TBoxes or cyclic ABoxes. However, it is still possible to find a concept description that is the msc up to a fixed role-depth, i.e. with respect to a maximal nesting of quantifiers. In this report we present a practical approach for computing the roledepth bounded msc, based on the polynomial-time completion algorithm for EL. We extend these methods to Prob-EL⁰¹c , which is a probabilistic variant of EL. Together with the companion report [9] this report devises computation methods for the bottom-up construction of knowledge bases for EL and Prob-EL⁰¹c .

For the 2023 conference, the IDB is holding three preparatory events - the PPP Talks before the main event. During the PPP Talks, invited experts will lay the groundwork for the discussions to be held during the conference. The third PPP Talk will consist of two panels on May 4th, 2023: Driving Inclusion and Measuring Impact, both topics are part of the thematic agenda of PPP Americas 2023. This Concept Note provides the conceptual framework of the two themes discussed during these panels.
