The article explores the difference between the category of tertium comparationis and a C-fi eld. The C-fi eld can be involved in different aspects of the analysis, for example the fi eld of one discipline (e.g. models of literary genres). The letter as genre exemplifi es the presence of hidden connections between its literary, administrative and pastoral forms. The method appears to be especially useful in the reconstructions of past phenomena (works, movements, periods etc.).

Abstract: The millions of words or sentences on the Internet and in literally hundreds of archives—literary works, published research, legal documentation, as well as other data—have enabled Automatic Text Summarization (ATS), which has become exceedingly well known over the past 10 years. Word-based summarizing is time-consuming, affordable, and unsustainable when interacting with vast volumes of literary texts. It's why we prefer utilizing textual data snippets: it saves time, we acquire accurate data rapidly, and computer scientists have been attempting to create ATS replacements since the 1950s. In this research, we will compare alternative rating systems and offer the best summary based on the scoring methodology implemented. We will also clearly define a wide range of methods, techniques, and scoring algorithms.

This article discusses the comparative-typological analysis of Uzbek and Kyrgyz literary terms and the comparison of terms in Uzbek and Kyrgyz school textbooks. The article pays special attention to the formation of a number of literary terms and the content-based analysis of textbooks as a result of the development of the literary language and literary criticism of the two fraternal peoples. In the process of analysis, it is observed that in textbooks, many common terms, such as proverbs, riddles, parables, fairy tales, proverbs, nicknames, riddles, jokes, jokes, belong to the folklore. In general, our work examines from a comparative-typological point of view that most of the literary terms that appeared in the history of the two fraternal peoples in ancient times are still used today.

The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of comparative phraseological units of the Dargin and English languages. It is noted that one of the main features is the feature that distinguishes a comparative stable phrase as a special group of phraseological units. In the Darginian literary language, the most active way of forming comparative relations between the elements of stable word combinations is the comparative particles-wang, - tsad, - guna. The same meanings are expressed by the English comparative elements of the adjective as, the verb like.

This article aims to analyze the research trend and hotspots in the field of comparative literature by using the method of bibliometrics. The data is derived from the Web of Science Core Collection Database. The visualization software VOSViewer is utilized to draw keyword co-occurrence knowledge graph. R programming language is employed to analyze the quantity of publications, core journals, highly cited papers, the most contributing authors, and keyword word cloud. The results indicate that ever since 1975, this study field has entered a period of rapid development; top journals with most publications are mainly from France, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. Most of the highly cited articles have emerged in the recent two decades, and quite a few of them inherit the academic tradition of adopting a geographic perspective. The keyword word cloud and the keyword co-ocurrence knowledge mapping reveal that comparative literature study is shifting its focus from literary history and intertextuality to identity, culture, literary theory and world literature. The recent reserch hotspots in this field are mainly identity, culture, world literature, literary theory, Latin American literature, appropriation, genre, theatre, ethics and digital humanities, etc.

This is a comparative analysis of two novels entitled “The Son of Mad Mat Lela,” which is written by Ishak Hadji Muhammad, a famous Malaysian writer and the other one is “Teach us to Outgrow our Madness,” by a Japanese novelist Kenzaburo Oe. This study compared the literary styles of Muhammad and Oe through the lens of their vocabulary and language use. Muhammad’s literary styles is simple, clear and vivid. One reads the story with delight because the words that strung together sound on the air like music. He does not use metaphor; his style is still striking in his own way. Many readers still notice his style no matter how plain it is. This is to say that Muhammad could write lucidly, simply and lively by observing grammar rules in writing. He uses common phrases of the day not with artificially but with naturalness. While, Oe’s literary style is more of long and complex sentences or two that occupy a paragraph. Most of his passages convey strong emotion describing an intimate knowledge of the lives of the characters.

How long and how strong is Diasporic memory? How many generations can it encompass? How deeply can generations that never lived in the old country relate to its landscape, language, colors and tastes? In the case of Israelis of Hungarian origin, these questions inevitably have to do with the history of Hungarian Jews in the late nineteenth- and early-to-mid twentieth-century, with a focus placed more acutely upon World War II and the Holocaust. Written by a female Israeli researcher of folk and documentary culture who belongs to the second-generation of Hungarian-Jewish Holocaust survivors, the present article strives to deal with the foregoing and other relevant questions through a comparative literary-cultural analysis of the only two presently existing Hebrew-language Hungarian cookbooks. These two cookbooks were published in Israel in 1987 and 2009, respectively, by two male cultural celebrities, the first by a Hungarian-born journalist, author and politician and the second by an Israeli-born gastronomer and grandson of Hungarian-Israelis.

Undoubtedly the historical settings and aspects of the Nazi Holocaust have been examined for many decades. Research has focused much on the victims of the Holocaust. However, the examination of the perpetrators of the Nazi Holocaust continues to cause anxiety and controversy. In my thesis I examine what possible constraints are imposed on authors/narrators and also readers by the sensitive and explosive subject of the representation of Holocaust perpetrators. I compare four texts of German Väterliteratur with Jonathan Littell’s “The Kindly Ones” to examine the questions of aesthetics and ethics in the literary representation of Holocaust perpetrators, and if we can deduce their motives and motivations from these representations. The examination of these Holocaust perpetrator representations is an important contribution to our understanding of the past as well as a contribution to the formation of public cultural memory and identity. All of the examined narratives form part of a continuously growing body of literary expressions of the Holocaust perpetrator and highlight a distinct obligation to the history they narrate – be it fictional or real. My research includes a comparative literary analysis of authentic narratives featuring fictional perpetrators in order to find meaning in these representations that enable the reader to form not only a connection with a dark part of the German past but also with post-war and post-unification debates on the representation of the Holocaust. It also demonstrates a recognition that Holocaust perpetrators are as multifaceted and multidimensional as the narratives they occupy. My thesis is not an exhaustive compilation but rather forms a small sample discussion that enables the reader to emphasise the Holocaust perpetrator. The narratives representing Holocaust perpetrators in contemporary literature serve to transmit history into the future as part of public and personal memory discourse, and the remembrance of history.

This thesis has conducted an extensive character analysis of Sherlock Holmes by comparing the original, authentic detective, as he appears in a corpus consisting of Conan Doyle’s collected works about Holmes, to the characterisation in three select period pastiches. The aim was to analyse to what extent the true characterisation of the famous sleuth has survived in contemporary adaptations, more specifically in the three texts, Sherlock Vs. Dracula (1976), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Holmes (1979) and Sherlock Holmes and the Angel of the Opera (1994), where the detective encounters equally well-known fictional characters. The novel approach of combining corpus stylistic quantitative methods of characterisation with a qualitative literary approach of identifying similar stylistic and narratological features of characterisation efficiently facilitated an illustration on how Conan Doyle’s round and complex character has endured through adaptations and reimaginings. The corpus investigation on the Sherlock Conan Doyle Corpus supplied an encompassing image of the character, and revealed characteristics absent from the inherent cultural perception. The subsequent cross-comparison between the original in contrast to contemporary characterisations presented clear deviations to the character and further demonstrated a tendency to exaggerate select, generic features that complement the narrative and plot of the integrated novels. Overall, this study concludes that Sherlock Holmes remains the character who travels over time and genres, albeit with a reduced complexity as the respective characterisations in each of the pastiches to various degrees have modified core characteristics significant to the mind-modelling process. That is, through the process of adaptational alterations, the detective has become a flat character. Enough features persist for him to be recognisable and compelling, yet Sherlock Holmes in his entirety subsists merely as a caricature of his original self.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This dissertation sets out from the assumption that there is a phenomenon one can call literature of impasse. By this is meant that there is a body of literature that can be defined as a literature of impasse because of the specific time of writing or of its setting. The definition used in this exploration is based upon the historical, social, political and psychological forces that shape literature of impasse. Broadly speaking the term refers to works of literature of which the authors are considered to be fully aware that what they were describing, analysing and exploring was the impasse which the Western individual had to navigate in order to arrive at any coherent sense of self. The authors in this study – Joseph Roth (1894-1939), Giorgio Bassani (1916-2000) and Henri Fauconnier (1879-1973) – can be regarded as three such authors, and the aim of this dissertation is to demonstrate in what way they are indeed authors of impasse in the works under discussion and what the devices are that they have employed to convey their vision. Far from being a vision that (myopically) sees no resolution, the authors demonstrate a need to identify the impasse itself and its causes and consequences in a narrative style. As part of the acknowledgement of impasse, the description of the ontological impasse of the protagonists is also explored as is the central discussion of modernity and Modernism and how modernity appears to exacerbate the sense of impasse. The position of the protagonists in these works leads in turn to the exploration of individual attempts to overcome the impasse and, in so doing, the study inevitably has to explore the philosophical attributes reflected in each of the works. The comparative nature of this analysis, straddling three languages and literary traditions, and the complex contexts of “impasse”, necessitates studies in other disciplines. The works of Ernest Gellner (1925-1995) seemed particularly suited to this exploration as an analytical springboard inasmuch as his works examine the anthropological and philosophical aspects which have determined the historical forces and milieux with which the three novelists have to contend in the formulation of their respective visions.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Hierdie proefskrif berus op die veronderstelling dat daar ‘n fenomeen bestaan wat letterkunde van impasse oftewel van die dooie punt genoem kan word. Dit beteken dat daar ‘n korpus van letterkundige werke is wat gedefinieer kan word as letterkunde van impasse op grond van die spesifieke tydperk waarin dit tot stand gekom het of die narratiewe agtergrond daarvan. Die definisie wat in hierdie studie gebruik word is gegrond op die geskiedkundige, sosiale, politiese en sielkundige kragte waardeur letterkunde van impasse gevorm word. Die term verwys in die breë na werke wat geskep word deur skrywers wat ten volle daarvan bewus is dat dit wat hulle beskryf, ontleed en verken die dooie punt is waardeur die Westerse individu moet beweeg om enige koherente sin van die self te bereik. This article aims to explore the intertextual relationships between Dante’s Divine Comedy and three pieces of creative writing: Chariklia Martalas’ “A Mad Flight into Inferno Once Again”, Thalén Rogers’ “The Loadstone” and Helena van Urk’s “The Storm”. By employing a comparative analysis, I argue that, even though decontextualised, the Comedy still represents a fruitful aesthetic source for representing particularly war-torn and violent contexts such as South Africa during apartheid and colonialism. I explore how the authors, through intertextual references and parodic rewriting, both re-configure the poem and challenge some of the Comedy’s moral assumptions and the idea of (divine) justice. I aim to show how Dantean Hell, far from being an otherworldly realm, is in fact transfigured and adapted to effectively represent (and make sense of) a historical context. In other words, through an intertextual analysis, this analysis tries to understand why and how the Comedy resonates with the South African socio-political (and literary) context.

This contribution aims to offer a study of the Italian adaptation of the Calderonian comedy Amor honor y poder by Angiola D'Orsi, in which the mechanisms that have allowed the recreation of the semantics of comedy, complex and strongly rooted in the stereotyped formulas of every literary tradition, are highlighted. Art comedian, dramatist, translator and highly experienced actor-manager (capocomico), Angiola D'Orsi shows her ability to acclimate the Spanish opera to the new context of reception, through an operation of mediation and interpretation of the two ideological and dramatic systems. Through the comparative analysis of the figures carrying comedy, characterized by linguistic and character stereotypes, we examine the ways in which their dramatic and cultural redefinition is carried out, closely linked to Italian theatrical practice and in accordance with the traditional mask of Zanni.

By means of a comparative analysis of the ‘Dutch case’ with the Saintonge in South-West France and Bohuslän in South-West Sweden, this paper analyses the rise and decline of maritime services clusters in preindustrial Europe. The leading question for this comparative analysis is: Was the ‘Dutch case’ exceptional or can similar developments be recognised in other parts of Europe as well? A survey of the regional economic origins of communities of maritime transporters is combined with analyses of their operations and institutions. Relying on primary sources, the paper addresses the contribution of a great many ‘anonymous’ people, that literally connected the ‘nodes’ in international maritime trade networks, but whose contribution to the preindustrial European economy has been assumed a priori rather than thoroughly investigated.

AbstractThis chapter analyzes literary advice culture from a transnational-comparative perspective. It sheds light on the reception of the American poetics of creative writing in contemporary France by examining the specific case of Outils du roman: Avec Malt Olbren sur les pistes et exercices du creative writing à l’américaine (2016, Tools of the Novel. Exploring American Creative Writing with Malt Olbren) by the experimental prose-writer François Bon. This text represents a broader dynamic in which French authors of literary advice resort to a repertoire of American writing techniques in an attempt to revive French literature. To conceptualize this process of transfer, I use Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of “minor literature.” This notion conveys how literary advice in France must constantly position itself vis-à-vis its American counterpart, but also how it appropriates and transforms this same body of ideas and techniques. More generally, this chapter makes a case for an increased consideration of supranational transfers in the domain of literary advice when studying processes of local literary change.

The study is based on the corpus of texts of Russian classical prose of the 19th century. It is shown how by means of comparative statistical analysis it is possible to reveal the unique features of a writer’s individual style. The study focuses on the specific cases of the use of the word litso (face) in Anton Chekhov’s psychological prose. The conclusions are made about the potential of corpus methodology in interdisciplinary research.

One of the premises that determines the research topic is that the methodologies for forming the self-image of the students of the primary classes in the process of receiving the literary text are not sufficiently known, systematized, valorized, applied. In addition, the literary text with its dual function of psychological and pedagogical resource is used in the educational approach more as a moral value. The emotional aspect, probed in the theories of art or more specifically of artistic literary education, which contributes to the development of the respective intelligence is less valued by teachers. The "poor" emotional intelligence developed at the students, the problems of the self-image made us preoccupied about this problem. The purpose of the research aims to reveal some methods corresponding to the literary-artistic education for the formation of the self-image of the students of the primary school in the process of receiving the literary text. The research aims to establish the psycho-pedagogical and literary-artistic landmarks for the formation of the self-image of the students of the primary school in the process of receiving the literary text; studying the practical situation regarding the formation of the student's self-image; applying questionnaires to investigate the student's self-image; highlighting, in the process of the pedagogical experiment, the tendencies and the particularities of forming the self-image of the student, as well as the validation of the formative approach within the control phase; creating opportunities to introduce didactic technologies specific to the system of literary-artistic activities for the formation of the student's self-image. Expected results: a comparative analysis of the curriculum and book of Romanian language and literature, 3rd / 4th grades in Romania and in the Republic of Moldova, regarding the existence of the competences / contents that lead to the formation of the self-image of the students, two lots (one experimental and one control) of 100 students from the 3rd / 4th grades from Romania and from the Republic of Moldova, on which questionnaires on the self-image will be applied, an optional curriculum Read and get to know yourself! for the 3rd / 4th grades, which aims at forming the self-image of the primary students in the process of receiving the literary text, an auxiliary for the 3rd / 4th graders and a guide for the teaching staff the optional class, with different contents aimed at forming the self-image of the students of the primary classes in the process of receiving the literary text, a training program and the course support, approved by the Ministry of National Education of Romania, 25 trained teachers. The research runs from November 2020 to June 2021.

The paper focuses on the interlacement of literary and iconographic elements by displaying an innovatory philological and stylistic approach, from a comparative perspective, in thematizing multilingual translational and adaptive aspects, ranging across Bernard Berenson's diaristic and epistolary corpus, in conjunction with his works on Italian visual culture. This interweaving gives occasion to the elaboration of multilinguistic textual influences and their verbo-visual artistic representations deduced from his innovative interpretative readings in the domain of world literature in modern times. Such analysis of the discourse of theoretical and literary nature, and of the pictoricity, refers to Bernard Berenson's multilingual considerations about canonical authors in English, Italian, French, German language, belonging to the Neoclassical and Romantic period, as well as to the contemporary era, as conceptualized in his autobiographical works, in correlation with his writings on Italian figurative art. The scope of this presentation is to discern and articulate Berenson's aesthetic ideas evoking literary and artistic modernity, that are infused with crucial notions of translational theory and conveyed through the methodology of close reading and comprising at the same time, in an omnicomprehensive manner, a plurality of tendencies intrinsic to social paradigms of cultural studies. Unexplored premises reflecting Berenson's vision of Italian culture, most notably of a visual stamp, will be analyzed through author's understandings of such adaptive translations or volumes to be subsequently translated in Italian, and through their intertwined intertextual applications, significantly contributing to further critical and hermeneutic reception thereof. Particular attention is drawn to its instancing in the field of Romantic literary production (Emerson, Byron), originally underscoring the specificities of each literary genre and expressive mode, of the narrative, lyric or theatrical nature, as well as concomitantly involving parallel notions as adapted variants within visual arts, and in such a way expressing theoretical views pertainable to Italian artworks too. Other analogous elements relevant to literary expression in the most varied cultural sectors such as philosophy, music, civilisational history (Goethe, Hegel, Kant, Wagner, Chateaubriand, Rousseau, Mme de Staël, Taine) are furnished, as well as the examples of the resonances of non-western cultures, with the objective of exploring the effect among readership bringing also to the renewal of Italian tradition.

On the example of English literature the author describes the features of the fatal communication of the teacher and pupils in different time periods – from XIX to XXI century. Conclusions are drawn about the originality of each time period in the communicative relation, a comparative characteristic of the methods of fatal communication in the English women’s educational discourse, depending on the time of writing literary works.

In the study, a large array of data (more than 15 thousand records and 180 full-scale measurements with satellite data files) for the period 1994–2012 (by ABIORAS) was systematized. Comparative analysis of the literary and fullscale satellite data has been executed. Based mainly on the stock of field measurements were made modern space-time description of the water masses in the lagoon (temperature, salinity). The discrepancy between the intra-variation in temperature between the periods 1966–1976 and 1994–2004 were identified. The paper contains a comparison and the subsequent correlation of field and satellite data, defined regularity of temperature exceeding of satellite data over the measured data. Lagoon area is divided into districts.
