Home in May 1868, the editor likely anticipated letters about the legitimacy of spiritualism—a topic of considerable media attention. Instead, he received multiple letters scrutinizing the discourse of scientific authority as asserted by its most renowned figures. This article analyzes that month-long sequence of letters and commentary to parse the criticism of authority on the unexpected grounds of language itself, illuminating how PMG correspondents resisted the reification of scientific objectivity by suggesting that even esteemed scientific investigators conveyed personal prejudice.

With the onset of America’s involvement in World War II in December 1941, there was a marked upswing in the popularity of all patriotic music, including the “Marines’ Hymn.” This article provides insight into the story of the “Marines’ Hymn” during World War II, including the increase in demand for published sheet music editions and the numerous suggestions of new lyrics to reflect the wartime experiences of Marines around the globe. It also highlights the role played by Marine Corps leadership in encouraging the hymn’s popularity, both at home and in the directives given to their combat correspondents reporting from the front.

This study highlights how military-press relations evolved in the 19th century towards institutionalising press accreditation during the armed conflicts with the aim of gaining the public trust and promoting the reputation of military organisations by managing the information release to audiences. A special focus is on the nascent press accreditation practices used by the military when interacting with correspondents sent by European and North American publications to cover, first-hand, the Eastern Question events unfolding on the battlefields of the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878), in which Romania fought to win its national independence. The study reveals the crystallisation of Public Relations techniques and procedures in wartime – press officers’ appointment, written regulations on the terms and conditions for the press accreditation, ground rules for correspondents’ access to press briefings, interviews and documentation activities at combat units as members of press pools or as embedded journalists. These practices are enshrined nowadays in the Public Relations policies on media relations, and their emergence deserves better recognition in the history of communication sciences.

War journalism is becoming increasingly dangerous. Journalists who define their careers by longevity in war zones have a lifetime prevalence of PTSD similar to frontline combat veterans. Local journalists can also confront grave danger, but unlike foreign correspondents, they work and live in dangerous places. They too have rates of PTSD and depression that well exceed that seen in the general population. Local journalists whose families are targeted are particularly vulnerable in this regard. Journalists who chose these dangerous career paths differ cognitively from their colleagues who have chosen less adventurous careers, most notably when it comes to decisions that entail risk. The ability to manage anxiety and fear in extreme situations may to a degree be modulated by epigenetic factors.

The article highlights the problems of the legal status of journalists and their protection during the war on the basis of international legal acts. Attention is focused on the norms of the Geneva Convention of 1949 and its Additional Protocols, which regulate the status of journalists during armed conflicts. Attention is focused on the fact that it is necessary to distinguish two categories of journalists: war correspondents and independent journalists, which are considered separately, and war correspondents are protected by the armed forces, and independent journalists do not have such special protection. It is noted that international humanitarian law considers journalists working in areas of armed conflict as civilians subject to the protection by Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols. Deficiencies in the protection of journalists in the context of considering them as ordinary civilians are pointed out. The possibility of creating a single special international legal act is being considered, which will determine the legal status of journalists during their stay in combat zones, taking into account their important mission of conveying true information to society and the functions they perform at the same time. Attention is focused on the need to identify journalists, provide assistance and protection by states, ensure free movement of journalists and respect the confidentiality of their sources. The importance of investigating cases of violence or deaths of journalists was emphasized.

Quality shows ability and reliability in carrying out tasks, especially in the security sector work unit. Quality indicators are a must, because in carrying out the task of maintaining security there is a risk of loss of life or the integrity of the country. This study aims to see the effect of professional training and education on improving the quality of competence of Indonesian soldiers. To show that there is influence, a quantitative research method is used on the basis of data disclosure. A total of 80 marines from the headquarters of the Indonesian National Armed Forces who became research correspondents. Data analysis using statistical regression test. Research data was collected through a purposive method by distributing questionnaires. The results of the study show that there is a strong allegation that the quality of competence increases significantly if soldiers receive professional and educational training programs. This means that the quality of soldier competence needs to be strengthened both in terms of technical ability and knowledge, so that soldiers have a comprehensive level of combat intelligence, encompassing technical intelligence, intellectual intelligence and mental maturity.

The work is devoted to the study of narrative sources about the battles of the 108th tank division of the Red Army west of Trubchevsk on August 30 – 31, 1941. Central attention is paid to the memoirs of the famous Russian weapons designer M. T. Kalashnikov, who took part in this battle as part of the 216th tank regiment. In the work, fragments of M. T. Kalashnikov's memoirs, as well as memories of other participants in the events, on the one hand, and documentary sources, on the other, are subjected to comparative analysis. For example, among the documentary evidence one can name the log of combat operations of the 108th tank division, reports of its headquarters from September 4 and 6, 1941. Among the narrative evidence, the most important are the memoirs of L. G. Katz, an ordinary tankman of the 216th tank regiment, and the future general of tank forces, Soviet Union Hero I. N. Shkadov, in 1941 – chief of reconnaissance of the regiment. In addition, a number of memories of front-line correspondents are used. The author comes to the conclusion that, despite the fact that from a chronological point of view, M. T. Kalashnikov’s memoirs are completely unreliable, in detail they quite accurately reflect the reconstructed events of August 30-31. In particular, almost any specific combat episode of these memoirs can be compared with any specific message in the documents. In addition, the designer’s memories practically do not contradict the memoirs of other participants in the events. Moreover, as the experience of comparing narrative monuments has shown, M. T. Kalashnikov’s memoirs are the most voluminous and detailed among them. It should be recognized that no scientific reconstruction of the battles of the 108th Panzer Division is possible without taking into account this monument.

The role of journalists in satisfying citizens’ right to free access to socially important information in war conditions is highlighted. The importance to inform the public about the progress of the military campaign is emphasized because it provides the civilians’ emotional and volunteer support for the army and military, political, and economic decisions. The history of the emergence of “embedded journalism” and the experience of implementing this type of journalism in Ukraine are analyzed. The author focuses on the ambivalent nature of “embedded journalism” from the point of view of researchers and practitioners. The legal basis for the journalists’ activities in hot spots is outlined, in particular the restrictions introduced after the full-scale offensive of the Russian Federation on Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The challenges for Ukrainian journalists regarding the implementation of the practice of “embedded journalism” and the completion of this project in Ukraine are pointed out. The author considers the specificities of the military correspondents’ activities and the recommendations developed by Ukrainian journalists and media experts regarding how to behave and how to communicate with the military and how to resolve conflict situations in the combat zone.

Through historical and content analyses of war coverage, this study qualitatively addresses emotional quality, use of sources, and implied use of technology to better understand the tension between Vietnam and Afghanistan war correspondents and their military counterparts. Early American democracy aspired to give total freedom to its people. But the American military, in its quest to uphold the ideas of democracy, has often challenged the freedom of press clause set forth by the United States Constitution. Since the Vietnam era, the relationship between the military and the media has been plagued by questions of censorship, assertions of falsehood, and threats to national security. But it is the technological advancements in both reporting and combat techniques that have caused a disappearance of the nostalgic war coverage that American correspondents once prospered from. The possibility of returning to journalists' vision of unrestricted press access is all but lost due to such advancements.

Cette thèse concentre ses recherches sur les journalistes qui ont couvert la guerre du Vietnam (guerre américaine au Vietnam de 1955 à 1975) en se focalisant exclusivement sur un groupe spécifique de journalistes nord-vietnamiens qui ont couvert les batailles du Nord, du Sud ou l’ensemble lors de la guerre du Vietnam. De nombreux journalistes nord-vietnamiens qui rendaient compte des événements de la guerre ont joué un rôle important dans la guerre pour l’indépendance nationale. Beaucoup d’entre eux sont morts sur les champs de bataille et beaucoup sont sortis de la guerre avec des handicaps ou dans de mauvaises conditions de vie. Leurs contributions ne sont consignées que dans des journaux intimes, des documents historiques et des livres contenant des informations générales. Il n’y a pas eu jusqu’à présent de recherche scientifique analysant en détail : pourquoi les journalistes ont assisté à la guerre ;comment ils se sont préparés à couvrir la guerre ; quels appuis ils ont reçus de leurs directions ; quelles étaient leurs conditions de travail et de vie ; comment ils ont vécu et travaillé en fonction de ces conditions dans les combats ; quels types d’équipement ils ont utilisé pour rendre leur travail possible ; comment ils se sont déplacés vers et dans les zones de combat ; ce qu’ils ont fait quand ils se sont reposés ; ce qu’ils pensaient de leur travail ; quels résultats ils ont obtenus ; quels impacts leur participation a eue ; comment leur travail a influencé leurs propres engagements. The focus is only on a specific group of the North Vietnamese journalists who covered the battles in the North or the South or both in the Vietnam War. Many North Vietnamese journalists, who reported on the war events, played an important role in the war for national independence. Many of them died in the battlefields and many left the war with disabilities or poor living conditions. Their contributions are recorded only in diaries, historical documents, and books with general information. Nevertheless, there is no scientific research analyzing in detail : why the journalists attended to the war; how they prepared for their covering the war; what they received from their offices; what working and living conditions they had; how they lived and worked with these conditions in combats; what kinds of equipment they used to make their work possible; how they moved in battles; what they did when they rested; what they thought about their job; which products they obtained; which impacts they had from their participation; how their work influenced their own commitments. Therefore, the thesis aims to identify these hidden aspects to highlight the North Vietnamese journalists' contributions in their country's targets

This study presents an analysis concerning the dramatic development of the current climatic changes and the impact on the glacier extension on high-altitude Alpine areas.
The study focused on the analysis of the Corbassiere glacier, on the Grand Combin, on the border between Italy and Switzerland. The glacier was introduced in the international ICE MEMORY (IM) PROJECT for the protection and conservation of ice cores from different mountain sites around the world.
The climatic signal from high altitude glaciers are much more local than that of polar glaciers, therefore the information contained is particularly important with regard to atmospheric and anthropogenic pollution; this study aims to identify the change in glacier extension from the end of the Little Ice Age (LIA) due to rise of temperature and to observe the possible effectiveness of the current efforts to control and reduce atmospheric pollution.
The thesis will focus on the analysis first of the climatic changes that have occurred in the last 150 years, deepening the study on the cryosphere and on ice cores. A meteorological analysis will be carried out over a very long daily temperature and precipitation series (1865 – 2019) combined with a geomorphological analysis of the change in glacier extension from 1892 to 2018 and with a chemical analysis for comparison between isotopes extracted from two different ice cores (2016 and 2018) and the temperature behaviour during the last decade.
This study shows a loss of glacial mass of the Corbassiere glacier from the end of the LIA till today, and the agreement between the reduction rate and the thermal oscillation. However, the examined case shows a less negative trend compared to the average of alpine glacier. For the chemical analysis, a good agreement was observed between isotopes and temperature, as a consequence of seasonal variability.

AbstractGamma radiation detection finds many applications in different fields, including astrophysics, nuclear physics and medical diagnostics. Nowadays large Lanthanum Bromide crystals coupled to Photomultiplier Tubes (PMTs) represent the state of the art for gamma detection modules, in particular for spectroscopic measurements. Nevertheless, there is an interest in substituting photomultiplier tubes with solid state photodetectors like Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs), owing to the latter’s significant advantages. These include insensitivity to magnetic fields, low bias voltage, compactness, fast response and mechanical robustness. The aim of this thesis work, which was carried out within the context of the GAMMA project supported by IstitutoNazionale di FisicaNucleare (INFN), is the design, development and experimental characterization of a -ray spectrometer based on large Lanthanum Bromide scintillator crystals coupled with Silicon Photomultipliers. This detector specifications are compliant with nuclear physics experiments with energies ranging from 100 keV to 20 MeV, characterized by state-of-the-art energy resolution and imaging capability, in a compact, modular and robust structure. In order to perform the readout of large scintillator crystals, a matrix of 144 Silicon Photomultipliers was designed using NUV-HD SiPMs from Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK). These were chosen due to their high Photon Detection Efficiency in correspondence with the peak emission wavelength of the crystal, the high cell density and low Dark Count Rate.

The Wall Street Crash of October 1929 caused havoc in the industry as a whole. Moorcroft’s trading figures declined progressively, and he was obliged, for the first time, to sell pieces at reduced prices. It is clear from his accounts, however, that losses were attributable not simply to reduced sales, but also to an increase in unpaid invoices, and Moorcroft’s continued reluctance to put his staff on part time. Significantly, even as he began to struggle commercially, his reputation as a designer continued to grow. He responded defiantly to the bleak economic climate with a series of new designs which celebrated the beauty and vitality of the natural world: Landscape, Leaf and Berry, and Fish. His exhibits at British Industries Fairs were reviewed as if they were artworks in a gallery rather than samples on a trade stand, and whose quality was never compromised by their affordability; as one critic noted, even the most modest object was, for its owner, a ‘collector’s piece’. This was the epitome of ‘everyday art’. Moorcroft’s art is examined, too, in the context of continued discussion about the improvement of industrial design. As leading manufacturers turned either to fine artists, or to Art School trained designers, Moorcroft’s commitment to his own designs became increasingly significant. Even more outspoken in his criticism of industrial production than Leach had been in 1928, he explicitly positioned himself as a craft potter, not least in an article written in 1930 on the occasion of the bicentenary of Josiah Wedgwood’s birth. He wrote as one who has the outreach of a manufacturer, but the creative principles of an artist. Letters written to his daughter during these years provide a unique insight into his aesthetic outlook and his ambition to combat the bleakness of the times with ceramic objects, both functional and decorative, characterised by their integrity of design and humanity of craft production. And this is how his work was received. One critic identified a quality of ‘soulfulness’ in his pottery, and private correspondence from individual owners attests to its inspirational effect.

During World War II, two types of reporters documented the conflict: combat and foreign correspondents. The former followed troops to the frontlines and gained fame for their harrowing tales of battle. Don Whitehead, Ernie Pyle, and Andy Rooney are primary examples of those who provided the boots-on-the-ground view of the war. Foreign correspondents, in contrast, worked in bureau offices overseas, writing the larger-geopolitical view of the conflict. Bureau writers failed to gain the same attention and notoriety as combat correspondents, yet their fact-based contributions form the basis of our knowledge of World War II. The purpose of this study is to shed light on the relatively unknown experiences and hardships of the war correspondents who lived in metropolitan war zones and suffered alongside the civilian populations. The personal papers and professional writings of Associated Press correspondents Louis P. Lochner, Edwin A. Shanke, Alvin J. Steinkopf, and Edward P. Kennedy serve as a lens into the role of foreign reporters in the second global war.

The Marines’ approach to publicity differed from that of both Douglas MacArthur and Ernest King. While these two commanders sought to control the news agenda from afar, using their own communiqués to reveal only what they wanted the public to know, the Marines pioneered the concept of combat correspondents. Two of them landed on Guadalcanal in early August, where they worked with two civilian correspondents, Richard Tregaskis and Robert Miller. Initially, a combination of tenuous communications and overzealous censorship meant that these correspondents struggled to tell the story of Guadalcanal. But this began to change once the Marines’ position became more secure and, crucially, Tregaskis left the island to write up his famous diary of the campaign.

This chapter explores how three war correspondents—Iris Carpenter, Lee Carson, and Ann Stringer—outmaneuvered rapidly shifting battlelines and military regulations to become part of an elite group attached to the “Fighting First” Division of the United States Army in the European Theater of Operations. Despite military policies preventing female war correspondents from covering the front, all three women—Carpenter for the Boston Globe, Carson for International News Service, and Stringer for United Press—used their reporting skills, and the military connections these skills earned them, to find and break news so often that by March 1945 their bylines appeared regularly beneath front-page headlines, often internationally syndicated. In 1946, Carpenter, Carson, and Stringer received theater medals from the United States War Department for “outstanding and conspicuous service with the armed forces under difficult and hazardous combat conditions.”

For topside structures ISO 19901-3 rely on national or regional building codes to derive the resistance of structural components. It is, however, required that the design resistance(s) of the building code is matched to the design resistance(s) of ISO 19902 through the use of a building code correspondence factor Kc. Recently, Kc was proposed in the literature to be taken as 0.95 for the European code for steel structures, Eurocode 3 (EN 1993). The present study does not support this value. Instead a value of 0.86 is derived. This lower value is based on the investigation of a topside project in the North Sea, and intends to cover for the stricter requirements to component resistance in ISO 19902 compared to Eurocode 3 for plastic and compact cross-sections.

Local context capturing has become the core factor for achieving leading performance in two-view correspondence learning. Recent advances have devised various local context extractors whereas typically adopting explicit neighborhood relation modeling that is restricted and inflexible. To address this issue, we introduce U-Match, an attentional graph neural network that has the flexibility to enable implicit local context awareness at multiple levels. Specifically, a hierarchy-aware graph representation (HAGR) module is designed and fleshed out by local context pooling and unpooling operations. The former encodes local context by adaptively sampling a set of nodes to form a coarse-grained graph, while the latter decodes local context by recovering the coarsened graph back to its original size. Moreover, an orthogonal fusion module is proposed for the collaborative use of HAGR module, which integrates complementary local and global information into compact feature representations without redundancy. Extensive experiments on different visual tasks prove that our method significantly surpasses the state-of-the-arts. In particular, U-Match attains an AUC at 5 degree threshold of 60.53% on the challenging YFCC100M dataset without RANSAC, outperforming the strongest prior model by 8.61 absolute percentage points. Cracked gas compressor fouling, which results from polymerization and saturated heavy hydrocarbons in olefins plant, remains one of the leading factors responsible for decreasing ethylene production revenues. This key equipment performance susceptibility to fouling has been studied in this paper. An analytical technique was developed based on the measured geometrical dimensions of aerodynamic components of the compressor train. The analytical model, capable of predicting performance at clean and progressive fouling conditions, of 27 stages of compression is detailed. Simulation results derived from model are compared with in-situ measured and mechanical design data of the compressor and good correspondence was obtained. Simulated fouling revealed more drop in efficiency of latter stages as a result of fouling of early stages. Current practice to combat compressor fouling is reviewed. A better location is proposed to install additional injection nozzles in vicinity of diffusers to carry out effective washing to decelerate fouling accumulation.

Introdução: A tuberculose (TB) é uma doença infecciosa causada pelo Mycobacterium tuberculosis, adquirida através da inspiração de partículas pela região nasal e oral de alguém contaminado. Nas prisões, a ocorrência de TB ativa é geralmente maior do que aquela na população geral correspondente. A população privada de liberdade (PPL), vive em ambiente e condições propícias à propagação da TB, pois a prisão é um reservatório de transmissão de doenças para a comunidade em geral, pelas visitas, aglomerados de pessoas contaminadas e sadias, transferências e saídas de detentos. Objetivos: Destacar dados epidemiológicos sobre a tuberculose em PPL e investigar as ações produtivas na prevenção da doença. Material e métodos: Análise epidemiológica sobre a incidência da TB em PPL, no Boletim Epidemiológico (BE) da Secretaria de Vigilância em Saúde, do Ministério da Saúde (MS) de 2021; revisão de literatura na PubMed, SciELO e em documentos oficiais do MS. Definidos os critérios: artigos em português, publicados entre 2016 a 2021. Realizada coleta de dados em novembro de 2021, foram selecionados 8 artigos. Resultados: A PPL contribui com 10,5% dos casos novos de TB. A incidência da doença aumentou entre 2015 a 2020, de 5.860 para 8.978, sendo 2019 o ano de maior pico, ainda mais com TB resistente às medicações. Conclusão: É fundamental na PPL a detecção precoce e tratamento dos casos ativos. A busca ativa de detentos sintomáticos respiratórios, por meio de um formulário de triagem específico, aplicado no ingresso ao sistema prisional, deve ser constante. Outro fator que contribui para a dificuldade no tratamento é a comunicação entre os profissionais de segurança e de saúde, quando há transferência do detento para outra unidade. A comunicação deve ser ágil e constante, objetivando minimizar os casos de abandono de tratamento. Trabalhar a prevenção a fim de evitar reativação de portadores na fase latente da doença, também contribui para reduzir a transmissão e trazer a cura. O controle da TB continua sendo um grande desafio na saúde pública, isso será possível com abordagem integrada ao paciente, o uso de testes, tratamento adequado e principalmente com atenção primária voltada para a prevenção.

Introdução: Durante décadas os tratamentos quimioterápicos convencionais foram empregados no câncer devido à eficácia em matar as células tumorais. Diante disso, a terapia gênica com uso de genes suicidas surge como uma das abordagens mais inovadoras para o desenvolvimento de agentes antineoplásicos com maior seletividade tumoral. Assim, entre os genes suicidas disponíveis, a timidina quinase é investigada em vários modelos de tumor. Contudo, o uso dessa enzima apresenta limitações devido ao sistema de imunogenicidade. Recentemente, pesquisadores passaram a utilizar o sistema de gene suicida da Caspase-9 induzível, a qual apresentou resultados mais favoráveis se comparado à timidina quinase. Objetivo: Objetiva-se construir uma revisão integrativa da literatura sobre a terapia gênica do suicídio avaliando o uso de genes suicidas, sobretudo da timidina quinase e da caspase-9 induzível para o combate ao câncer. Material e Métodos: Foi realizada uma revisão integrativa de literatura por meio de uma pesquisa nos bancos de dados PubMed, Scopus e LILACS com os seguintes descritores “terapia gênica de genes suicidas”, “câncer”, “avaliação”, “timidina quinase” e “caspase-9 induzível” simultaneamente às correspondentes em inglês, em intervalo de 11 anos (2010-2021), com critérios de inclusão preestabelecidos. Para o cruzamento dos descritores, utilizou-se um protocolo com os seguintes booleanos: Gene Therapy of Suicide Gene AND Cancer AND Assessment AND Thymidine Kinase AND Inducible Caspase-9. Ao final, 4 artigos foram selecionados. Resultados: Foi selecionado 1 artigo (n = 25%) que abordava o tema da avaliação na terapia de genes suicidas. Em contrapartida, os critérios de exclusão foram estudos que não contemplavam o efeito avaliativo desses genes na terapia gênica, resumindo-se a 3 artigos selecionados (n = 75%). Com isso, observou-se que a avaliação do uso de genes suicidas ainda é uma abordagem recente, necessitando de mais estudos que contemplem essa temática. Conclusão: A avaliação da terapia gênica do suicídio pautada no uso de genes suicidas para o combate ao câncer é promissora, mesmo que recente e dos mínimos estudos publicados. Além disso, o sistema de entrega utilizando a caspase-9 induzível é mais viável do que o sistema de entrega da timidina quinase, já que esse sistema se limita à imunogenicidade do transgene viral.

The nonlinear problem of factorizing a distribution having compact planar support as a convolution product given possible a priori information about the factors includes the problems of blind deconvolution and signal recovery from magnitude. By the Paley-Wiener-Schwartz theorem [1, p. 390] this problem is equivalent to factorizing entire functions of exponential type. Moreover, typical a priori information about the convolution factors can be equivalently specified in terms of the corresponding entire function. For example, Bochner’s theorem [1, p. 715] implies the correspondence between positive measures and positive definite functions and the Plancherel-Polya theorem [2, p. 353] together with the result in [3, p. 7] implies that the convex closure of the support of a distribution having compact planar support is completely characterized by the growth rate, in various directions, of the corresponding entire function.

O novo coronavírus (COVID-19) difundiu-se de maneira significante por todo o globo e tornou-se uma das grandes mazelas da contemporaneidade, impactando profundamente o Brasil, o qual configura como uma das nações mais afetadas pela doença. Desse modo, a necessidade por sistemas tecnológicos de combate à crise sanitária tornou-se ainda mais urgente nesse país. À vista disso, o presente artigo apresenta um estudo comparativo entre duas técnicas de modelagem e previsão de dados epidemiológicos associados à pandemia de Covid no Brasil, especificamente no estado de Santa Catarina. Essencialmente, foram concebidos modelos do tipo Non-Linear Autoregressive model with eXogenous input (NARX) polinomiais como contraponto à modelagem de séries temporais por meio da construção de redes neurais recorrentes da variante Long short-term memory (LSTM) para séries de dados correspondentes às quantidades de casos confirmados, óbitos, pacientes recuperados e leitos do sistema público de saúde ocupados por pacientes acometidos pela doença. O desempenho preditivo dos modelos, avaliado por meio da aplicação de métricas de desempenho tradicionais, mostrou que, para três das quatro séries temporais utilizadas para previsão, o modelo NARX obteve resultados mais satisfatórios.

Abstract Results of online acoustic emission (AE) monitoring during fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) experiments on a stainless steel SS 316 LN are presented in this paper. Two specimen geometries — viz., standard compact tension (C(T)) specimens as well as side-grooved C(T) specimens were considered for experiments at ambient temperature and at 600°C (873K). There is a good correspondence between crack length increment and the increase in AE cumulative count and cumulative energy during the experiments. The side grove introduced on the thickness direction of the test specimen constrains the plastic zone ahead of the crack tip, thereby enforcing plane strain conditions at the crack. Reduced AE activity at initial stages of crack growth was observed for side grooved samples. The transition to Stage-II crack growth was observed using acoustic emission (AE) technique which otherwise was not visible from the fatigue crack growth plot. The work further attempts to correlate the AE parameters obtained during elevated temperature (873K) fatigue crack growth in stainless steel. For the purpose of acquiring AE signals outside the heated zone, a waveguide was used to transmit the acoustic waves from the specimen at high temperature. A correlation between crack advance and AE parameters was obtained from the elevated temperature tests.

A formação de São Paulo vem marcada por diferentes períodos nos quais observa-se uma clara relação entre a aparição de espaços públicos, fundamentais para o desenvolvimento da metrópole, e a geração da vida urbana, o que reflete o processo de transformação da ideia de urbanidade. Foi uma cidade nascida como lugar de passagem que começou a crescer de forma lenta e compacta, tornando-se depois uma metrópole de expansão acelerada e difusa. É necessário interpretar este processo evolutivo, para assim, entender quais são as dinâmicas que participam nos espaços de interação da cidadania, correspondentes a diferentes momentos da formação da cidade. Este trabalho pretende analisar lugares para urbanidade associáveis a cada uma dessas etapas. The formation of São Paulo has been marked by different periods in which there has been a clear relationship between the appearance of public spaces, fundamental to the development of the metropolis, and the generation of urban life, which reflects the transformation of the idea of urbanity. It was a city born as a place of passage that began to grow slowly and compact-shaped and became afterwards a metropolis of accelerated and diffused expansion. It is necessary to interpret its evolution, so as to understand what are the dynamics involved in the spaces of citizenship´s interaction, corresponding to different times of the formation of the city. This paper discusses places for urbanity associated to each of these historical chapters.

Introdução: A Coenzima Q10 (CoQ10), uma provitamina lipossolúvel sintetizada endógenamente, naturalmente encontrada em alimentos ou na forma de suplemento alimentar, também utilizada em formulações cosméticas. Localiza-se na membrana de organelas celulares como o retículo endoplasmático, vesículas e membrana interna da mitocôndria, onde atua como um cofator essencial na cadeia respiratória. Objetivo: O objetivo desta pesquisa, consiste em dispor de informação correspondente, sobre os beneficios da CoQ10 na saúde humana, bem como de apresentar alimentos in natura que apresentam quantidade consideráveis dessa coezima, facilitando assim a disponibilidade de ingestão. A pesquisa consiste em uma revisão da literatura científica, sobre a importância da COQ10 na saúde humana. Material e métodos: A pesquisa foi realizada nas bases de dados eletrônicos, nacionais e internacionais: PubMed, Google Scholar, SciELO, Biblioteca Cochrane, BMC e Scopus. As palavras-chaves utilizadas em combinações para a busca de artigos foram: Efeitos ergogênicos, CoQ10, exercício físico, desportista. Resultados: Na sua forma reduzida, a CoQ10 é um poderoso antioxidante que previne os danos oxidativos causados pelos radicais livres, incluindo a oxidação de lipídios na membrana mitocondrial. A Coenzima Q10 pode ser obtida por duas vias: por via exógena pela ingestão de alimentos e por via endógena, pelo ciclo do mevalonato. Os alimentos que a contêm são rebentos de soja, amêndoas, nozes, vegetais verdes como espinafre , carne, aves domésticas e brócolis. Também pode ser encontrada em peixes gordos, como cavala e sardinha, e em amendoim. Conclusão: A Coenzima Q10 é considerada uma substância ergogênica, atuando no metabolismo celular, com potencial de melhorar o desempenho físico, além disso é um potente antioxidante que atua no combate dos radicais livres, evitando o envelhecimento, fatores que justificam o aumento da procura dessa coenzima nos últimos anos.
