Abstract This study was conducted to compare the effect of adding different levels of olive pomace on some productive traits of ISA Brown laying hens, at the field of laying hens of the Agricultural Research and Experiment Station, Agriculture College, Al-Muthanna University, from 7/6/2022 to 4/9/2022 for a period of 12 weeks. A total of 72 hens, 18 weeks old, ISA Brown laying hens were used, it was randomly distributed to four treatments distributed to 3 replicates ( 6 laying hens each replicate), the treatments were as follows: T1: the control treatment. As for the treatments T2, T3 and T4, dried olive-pomace powder was added at levels of 1.5, 3 and 4.5% to the diet. The results indicated a significant superiority on the egg production and egg mass with a significant improvement in the feed conversion factor in all treatments of olive-pomace powder compared to the control treatment, there were no significant differences on the average egg weight among all experimental treatments.

Abstract The study was conducted at poultry field, Agricultural Research and Experiment Station at the College of Agriculture, Al-Muthanna University, to determine the effect of locally extracted aloe vera oil on some productive traits of ISA Brown laying hens, from 5/6/2022 to 5/9/2022. A total of 162, twenty-one-week-old ISA Brown laying hens were used, birds were randomly distributed to nine treatments with three replicates for each, 18 birds per treatment (6 birds for each replicate), the treatments were followed; T1: without any addition, as for the treatments T2, T3, T4 and T5, they were local aloe vera oil and the treatments T7, T6, T8 and T9, they were imported aloe vera oil, the addition of oil was at the levels 0.3 and 0.4 per kg feed. The results indicate that there were a significant improvement (P≤0.05) on some productive traits (egg production, egg weighte, feed conversion and egg mass), for all treatments of locally extracted oil compared to the control treatment and imported oil, T3 showed the best results, significantly (P≤0.05) compared to the rest of the treatments of the oil extracted locally.

Aims: The objective of this study was to identify the appropriate anthracnose fungus of green gram using symptomatology, identification, pathogenicity test and characterization of samples. Study Design: Pathogenicity test, cultural and morphological characterization. Place and Duration of Study: The laboratory studies were conducted in the Department of Plant Pathology, N. M. College of Agriculture, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, Gujarat during rabi 2020-21. Methodology: The sample was collected and subjected to isolation, purification and identification of pathogen. Four different pathogenecity tests were conducted to verify the pathogen causing anthracnose of green gram. On the other hand, the cultural and morphological characteristics of pathogen were studied. Results: The pathogenecity test confirmed that the pathogen as Colletotrichum lindemuthianum in all four tests. Spraying inoculum after needle pricking and carborandum powder producing 100% infection in inoculated plants while 96% in spraying spore suspension without any abrasion. The less per cent of infection was observed in seed inoculated plants. The cultural studies of C. lindemuthianium shown sub-aerial whitish-to-pink cottony growth and pinkish-to-brown pigmentation under the culture plate. The morphological study of C. lindemuthianium observed as single-celled, hyaline, cylindrical, and smooth with oil globules. The acervuli were blackish brown and measure 181.3 × 254.6 µm. The setae were visible through the conidial mass with 1-3 septations. Conclusion: A study on green gram anthracnose confirmed C. lindemuthianum as pathogen in all four pathogenicity test with needle pricking and carborandum powder producing 100% infection in inoculated plants while 96% in spraying spore suspension without any abrasion. Cultural studies revealed whitish-pink cottony growth and pinkish-brown pigmentation. C. lindemuthianium was morphologically observed as single-celled, hyaline, cylindrical, smooth, with oil globules, blackish brown acervuli, and visible setae through conidial mass with 1-3 septations. Therefore, these findings are important for identifying the anthracnose disease of green gram.

Aims: To study the cultural, morphological and pathogenic variability existing among the pathogen isolates of Colletotrichum capsici, inciting anthracnose and fruit rot of chilli in Kerala. Study Design: Completely randomized design (CRD). Place and Duration of Study: Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture (Kerala Agricultural University), Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram during 2018-2019. Methodology: A survey was conducted in the five agro-climatic zones (ACZs) of Kerala viz., Northern zone, Central zone, Special problem zone, High range zone and Southern zone to assess the incidence and severity of anthracnose disease. The various symptoms in the surveyed locations were also noted. Pathogen isolates were grown in PDA medium in the laboratory and colony characters (colour and mycelial growth rate of pathogen colonies) were observed. Also, the morphological characters viz., mycelial width, shape and size of conidia, acervular diameter, number and size of setae, appressorial size were recorded. Results: Maximum anthracnose incidence of 90 per cent and severity of 52.60 per cent were noticed at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Pilicode (Northern zone). Characteristic leaf spot, fruit rot and die-back symptoms were observed in the survey locations. Pathogen colonies showed different shades of white, off-white to grey turning brown or black with regular or irregular margins and concentric rings of black acervuli in the potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium. The diameter of growth of C. capsici isolates ranged from 7.20 to 8.60 cm at 7 days after incubation. All the C. capsici isolates initiated hyaline mycelium having a width of 1.73 - 2.36 µm and produced numerous sickle shaped conidia with a size range of 19.42 - 20.46 µm × 2.16 - 3.09 µm. Black coloured, circular or ellipsoidal acervuli (122.14 - 189.08 µm dia.) had 20 – 46 setae of length 74.13 to 107.30 µm. Also, brown or black appressoria of size 8.64 - 12.64 µm × 5.54 - 7.84 µm were formed in slide culture. Cc3 from College of Agriculture, Vellanikkara was obtained as the most virulent isolate producing a lesion size of 1.13 cm and PDI of 45.33 in the artificially inoculated chilli fruits (var. Vellayani Athulya) at 5 days after inoculation. Conclusion: All the nine C. capsici isolates exhibited variability in their cultural, morphological and pathogenic characteristics. Variability in phytopathogenic fungi helps in identifying novel and sustainable control methods to tackle the diseases incited by them. Understanding pathogen variability provides new insights for developing effective disease management methods. This will help in promoting sustainable agriculture and preventing severe crop losses.

Abstract The current study was carried out at the poultry farms of animal production department, college of agriculture, University of Kirkuk from May 2022 to June 2023. A total of (300) eggs were collecting from three genetic groups of the Japanese quail (brown, grey, and white) to evaluate the external egg traits concerning (Egg weight, Egg length, Egg breadth, Shell thickness). The Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin (KMO) for the three genetic lines (brown, grey, and white) of the Japanese quail were (0.651, 0.728, and 0.667) respectively. The communalities represent estimates of variance in each variable accounted, for the brown genetic group of the three traits length, breadth, and eggshell thickness was (0.990, 0.817, and 0.872) respectively. Three Eigen values were extract for the three genetic lines. We conclude that the principal component analysis of the external egg traits that effected the egg weight in the three genetic lines of the Japanese quail differ among the lines due to the genetic makeup of the lines.

This study was aimed to identify the role of the single nucleotide polymorphism genes on the contrast of three groups (Dark-Brown, hazel and blue) of human eye color among a sample of Iraqi people specifically single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs); the rs12913832 of HERC2 gene and the rs1800407 of OCA2 gene, for 90 human blood samples of different people were collected from College of Science, University of Baghdad and also people from different areas of Baghdad, Iraq. These SNPs were analyzed using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR). The results of the rs12913832 and rs1800407 genotype showed significant differences (p <0.05) in the blue eye color groups. the rs12913832 of HERC2; rs1800407 of the OCA2 genotypes and allele frequencies in contrast to the dark brown and blue iris group showed that there was significant variation in the heterozygous genotype frequencies, while these SNPs in contrast to the dark brown and hazel iris group showed a non-significant effect in a sample of Iraqi population. The haplotype statistical analysis shows strongly Linkage disequilibrium (LD) between the rs12913832 of HERC2 gene and the rs1800407 of OCA2 gene in dark-brown, hazel and blue eye color subjects.

This study was conducted in the farm of the Department of Animal Production, college of Agriculture –Tikrit University for the duration of 19/11/2021 to 23/12/2021. The aim this to study the effect of colour plumage and breeding system on the traits reproductive of Japanese quail Use in this experiment 180 A quail bird of age 21 Days were divided into two groups according to the colour of plumage 90 brown bird and 90 Black birds, each group divided that was raised in two breeding systems (batteries and floor). each breeding systems Contain 45 bird and is divided into three replicates, each replicate contains 15 the bird, and the sex ratio was used 2:1. The results showed no significant effect of plumage color and breeding system on the hatchability from total eggs, hatchability from fertilized eggs, fertility rate, embryonic mortality, superiority of brown quails over blacks in the weight of the first egg, while black quails outperformed brown ones in weight at maturity sexual.

Abstract This study was conducted at the Animal Production Research Station - College of Agriculture - Al-Muthanna University, as 5 males and 5 females from three types of local chicken strains were used in this experiment according to the color black, brown and white, after the age of sexual maturity, and some blood characteristics were studied (Red blood cells, Packed cell volume(pcv)) and some biochemical characteristics such as concentration (glucose, cholesterol, and total protein) in blood serum. During the study period, birds were fed a diet containing 17.5% protein and 2814 kcal/kg feed. The results showed no significant differences in red blood cells between the strains (black, brown, and white), while males significantly outperformed females in the numbers of red blood cells (P≤0.05). While significant differences were found between the strains in the studied characteristics of (cholesterol, glucose, and total protein), as males outperformed females in the concentration of glucose and cholesterol, while the concentration of total protein decreased in males compared to females.

The present study was conducted at poultry laboratories, department of animal production, Agriculture College, Duhok University, Kurdistan region, Iraq, (2016). Three lines of quail (White, light brown and dark brown) and their crosses that resulted from diallel cross design; aged 8 weeks old were used. A total of 54 blood samples by about 5 ml, from both sexes within each genotype aged 8 weeks old, were collected directly after slaughtering and bleeding for 3 second. PVC %, hemoglobin (Hb), Hetrophyl (H), Lymphocyte (L), H/L ratio, total protein, globulin, albumen and cholesterol were studied. The results showed insignificant differences among genotypes and between sexes for both PVC and Hb, while H, L, H/L, total protein, globulin, albumen and cholesterol appeared high significant (p<0.01) differences among the nine studied genotypes. The effect of sex was significant (p<0.05) for H, L and cholesterol. Interaction between genotype and sex was just significant for albumen. There was a significant negative correlation between H/L ratio and globulin (-0.39). Dependence of H/L ratio on globulin, resulted in derives a prediction equation.

Abstract Research on the effect of adding powder, oil, aqueous, and alcoholic solutions of black seed (Nigella sativa), individually, on qualitative egg traits of laying hens eggs was conducted at the Agricultural Research and Experiment Station, Agriculture College, Al-Muthanna University from October 15, 2022, to January 7, 2023. There were a total of 75 laying hens (ISA Brown) employed, and they were all split up into 15 groups of 5. Each treatment’s pens were 3 by 3 metres in size, and the pens were divided into thirds such that each third held 5 hens. These are the methods of treatment: T1 (the control group) received their regular diet with no alterations made. T2: 10% powdered Nigella sativa (black seed) was added to the diet. T3: Incorporate ten percent of an alcoholic extract of black seed (Nigella sativa) into the daily ration of water consumed. T4: Incorporate ten percent of a water-based extract of black seed (Nigella sativa) into your daily water intake. T5: Ten percent oil from black seeds (Nigella sativa) was added to the rations. Our research found that compared to the other experimental treatments, adding alcoholic extract to laying hens’ drinking water resulted in statistically significant increases in shell thickness, relative weight of shell and yolk, yolk and albumin index, and Hough unit, and a statistically significant decrease in the relative weight of the albumin.

Introduction: During 2017, approximately 750,000 strokes occurred, of those approximately 140,000 people died from a stroke and <10% were also diagnosed with a hospital acquired condition. The economic burden associated with stroke care exceeds $34 billion; and hospitalizations with a hospital acquired condition increase costs. In the United States, differences in health outcomes have been documented; however, these studies show that sociodemographic differences continue to exist. The objectives of this study are to assess differences in clinical outcomes among the study population, and to assess if there are differences hospital charges.

Methods: To investigate differences in outcomes and hospital charges among the study population, the 2001-2011 Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database was used. Hospitalizations that occurred with a primary diagnosis of an ischemic stroke and a subsequent diagnosis of a hospital acquired condition were queried using ICD-9 codes. Additionally, the Elixhauser comorbidity index was used to identify comorbid conditions among individuals hospitalized. To assess the differences in outcomes and hospital charges chi-square, logistic regression, and hierarchical multilevel modeling procedures were used. All statistical analyses were performed using SAS 9.4.

Results: The overall death rate has decreased among the study population; however, racial/ethnic differences exist in patient outcomes. When assessing hospital charges, hospitalizations that occurred in the Southern region of the United States were higher than hospitalizations that occurred in the Northwest region of the United States.

Conclusion: Further analysis needs to be conducted to assess sociodemographic differences in clinical outcomes among the study population. There is a need to continue to identify sociodemographic groups with risks of mortality to better guide the funding opportunities to target these resources to populations that experience the worse health outcomes. Future studies should also assess the role of mental health, cultural competency, and care coordination to improve patient outcomes.

The role of agriculture in the economy and society remains relevant as the industry provides 11% of employment and affordable access to healthy food which promote health and wellbeing. However, without adequate agricultural literacy, individuals may not be able to make safe and healthy food choices. To explore the level of agricultural literacy of college students, a 43-item questionnaire was developed and will be administered at a Liberal Arts University in the Southeastern United States. The aim of the study is to determine agricultural literacy scores and the importance of agricultural practices among college students who are not and will not be enrolled in agricultural courses and who do not plan to pursue a career in agriculture. Data collected will be examined to determine whether agricultural literacy is related to the importance of agricultural practices and whether relationships between demographic characteristics and agricultural literacy scores are present

Historically Black Colleges and Universities have historically been given less funding than White institutions, a known discrepancy partially rectified by the Civil Rights era desegregation lawsuits. The court-ordered funding, however, came with race-based restrictions for public HBCUs, and many lost academic programs to traditionally White institutions. In numerous situations, Black colleges were closed outright or merged with White institutions. The following study explores the unique case of an HBCU coerced into merging an academic unit with a neighboring historically White university. Using archival data and interviews from the HBCU administrators, the case study presents a narrative of how the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University – Florida State University partnership was formed, explores the partnership’s development over time, and examines differences between the mission and practices of the joint venture from FAMU’s perspective.

The transition to college offers students the chance to explore, experiment with, and eventually begin to solidify their identities (Boyd, Hunt, Kandell, & Lucas, 2003), but for students from agricultural backgrounds, leaving home to head to a more urban area for college constitutes a threat to identity (Breakwell, 1986; Cicognani, Menezes, & Nata, 2011; Proshanksy, 1978). Although education research concerning rural students is plentiful (e.g., Antos, 1999; Donehower, Hogg, & Schell, 2012; Durham & Smith, 2006; Lester, 2012), research specific to agrarian students is sparse (e.g., Dees, 2006). The purpose of this qualitative instrumental case study was to explore and describe the experiences of students from agricultural backgrounds as they transitioned to college and how the transition impacted self-perceived identity. In particular, this study inquired into the difficulties and successes faced by study participants, as well as strategies used for coping with the transition from their agrarian homes to their more urban university setting. Four male and four female participants attended a university situated in the Midwest and majored in agricultural education. These university participants were invited to complete two qualitative interviews, submit photographs they felt represented their home and school lives, invite the researcher to observe any facet of their university experience, and submit the most meaningful assignment completed in college. Additionally, three male and two female high school students anticipating the transition to college were interviewed about their perceptions of the upcoming transition. Analysis of research data revealed that participant identities were impacted by the transition to college, their agrarian backgrounds, and their university experiences. Twenty-three distinct codes emerged from the data and were further categorized into six patterns: merging worlds, differences and tensions, “it’s in my blood,” continuing educational legacy/impact, finding self-identity, and can I go home? This study’s results highlighted, first and foremost, the need for universities to keep statistics on rural student enrollment. Additionally, this study emphasized the need for teachers, advisors, and counselors to be mindful of students’ backgrounds and future plans. Finally, this study demonstrated the importance of exposure to more urban areas and educational opportunities for easing the transition to college in students from agricultural backgrounds.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of and improve the recruitment efforts of The College of Agricultural Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. This study surveyed a group of freshmen and first-year transfer students enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences (COAS) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) in the fall of 2016 on why they chose to attend, and what factors were considered when making their choice. 184 students were sent surveys and a total of 62 students completed the survey, giving a response rate of 34%. The instrument contained a 21 item questionnaire, with responses of both open and close ended items. The survey found that the reputation of the COAS, as well as the faculty and staff’s dedication of welcoming and assisting (potential students) were identified as the most influential factors in a student choosing to attend the COAS. It was found that parents, followed closely by high school agriculture teachers, held the greatest influence in prospective students' college choice process. Other results show why the students selected and enrolled were due to the affordability of the COAS, scholarships, and the specific programs that were offered. Noting these results, the COAS would be able to continue to increase enrollment numbers.

Susan was not happy at Cambridge, where, for two years from 1912, she was attached to Newnham College. Compared to Manchester, she found it élitist and patriarchal. Her research project, a study of the use of imagery in spelling, was uninspiring, but she completed it over two years, and a peer-reviewed paper emerged from the findings. She was to carry out no further experimental work. In 1914, she obtained a post as Mistress of Method in the Infant Department of Darlington Training College. Here she made an impression on her students as a gifted, inspiring, demanding teacher. While at Manchester, Susan had begun a relationship with William Brierley, a brilliant botany student. They had many common interests. She had continued to visit him while at Cambridge and, during her year at Darlington, they decided to marry. At that time, it was not permitted for women to remain in employment after marriage, so in 1914 Susan resigned her job after a year. The couple lived in a suburb of Manchester for the first year of their married life, while they both worked in academic departments in the University there. Shortly after their marriage, war with Germany was declared and William enlisted. He was invalided out of the Army in 1916. In the meantime, he had been appointed to a post as a botanist in Kew Gardens. Shortly afterwards, in 1918, he was appointed Head of the Department of Mycology in the newly established agricultural research station in Rothamsted, Hertfordshire.

This chapter details aspects of Fisk University, Stillman Institute, and Tuskegee Institute that Althea Brown and Alonzo Edmiston adapted for religious education from 1918 to 1919. It analyzes each missionary’s experiences at one of these campuses between 1892 and 1904 to show the academic roots of their perspectives on art, folklore, finance, local politics, and sustainable agriculture. Details of the consequences of colonial taxation and forced labor help explain why the Edmistons’ plans for the Luebo Agricultural College failed the following year. Descriptions of the student body suggest that the legacy of the college reflected its balance of classical and industrial education even when its agricultural goals went unmet.

Abstract Hosea Williams, son of blind African American parents, grew up in poverty in the segregated South, working as a cleaner, caretaker, and farm worker before the war began and he joined the Army. When his platoon of thirteen men was hit by a shell in France, Williams alone survived. He spent over a year in the hospital and endured permanent disabilities, walking with a limp the rest of his life. Upon returning home, he dared to drink from a whites-only water fountain at a segregated bus station and was beaten nearly to death by a mob of whites. The incident proved a turning point in the making of a civil rights activist. After he recovered from his injuries, Williams both joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and resumed his education, using the G.I. Bill to complete high school and then bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry from Morris Brown College and Atlanta University. He was hired by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a research chemist, becoming one of the first blacks to hold such a position in the South. Meanwhile, Williams grew increasingly involved in the struggle for equal rights, emerging as a leader in demonstrations throughout the later 1950s; over the years he was arrested at least 124 times. Martin Luther King Jr. recruited him, first to join the Southern Christian Leadership Council and later to join his staff. On March 7, 1956, Williams led a march from Selma to Montgomery for voting rights. A national audience of television viewers watched as the participants knelt in prayer and state troopers attacked them with whips, tear gas, and nightsticks; Williams himself was beaten unconscious and left with a severe concussion and fractured skull.

Abstract The emergence of Sterling A. Brown into poetic maturity resulted from a well- known dialectical engagement with the aesthetics of African American folk tradition. As Brown recounted so often, these experiential and imaginative encounters derived from a benevolent conspiracy between his theologian fa- ther, the Reverend Sterling Nelson Brown, and the eminent historian Carter G. Woodson to send the younger Brown South, to learn something about his people. Socially, this meant that at Virginia College and Seminary (1923–1926), before moving on to Lincoln University (1926–1928) and Fisk University (1928–1929), Sterling A. Brown began divesting himself of the confining black middle-class ethos of Washington, D.C., and of a New England–Ivy League sensibility instilled by formal education at Williams College (1918–1922) and Harvard University (1922–1923). Aesthetically, the move South meant an enthusiastic immersion into and embrace of the black South, especially its folk life, language, and lore—a relationship from which would come his best-known work. Lost, or at least understated, in this pursuit of a folk-based metaphysic is his point of departure.

Abstract Thus spoke a ‘Mohamedan schoolmaster’ in the Bengal Infantry stationed in Suakin upon hearing that Kitchener was collecting money in England to build a College in Khartoum. The schoolmaster may have been a figment of Kipling’s imagination but the occasion certainly was not, for Kitchener’s initiative led to the opening of Gordon College in Khartoum in 1902. Gordon College, later to become Khartoum University, is really the starting point for both the themes of this chapter. Firstly, its foundation heralded what was to become known as the ‘educational experiment in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan’ (Currie 1934) an experiment which was to shape the current education system of Sudan and have a fundamental effect on education development throughout Africa.

A community college, sometimes referred to as a junior college or technical college, is a taxpayer-supported two-year institution of higher education. The term “community” is at the heart of the mission of the community college. These schools offer a level of accessibility—in terms of time, money, and geography—that cannot be found at most liberal arts colleges and private universities. Community colleges are common in many different Arab countries, and just recently established within other countries. It is mostly responsible for graduating effective technicians in different disciplines. In addition, it plays an important role for students' manipulation for university enrollment in different Arab countries. Through this chapter there are many points and views relevant to concept, initiation, academic programs, employability, job destination, and benchmarking versus global community colleges.

Learning is the Process by which experience is transformed in to knowledge and knowledge is transformed in to action. It is a dynamic process of adoption and action in which we repeatedly interact with our social, biological and physical environment. People have their own styles of learning-they also have unique ways of looking at the world. While these techniques are based partly on a person preferred learning styles but also depends on values, beliefs, morals and tastes, cultural traditions, past experience language, attitude and personality type. The research was conducted in February 2019 at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) in Bangalore, Karnataka. The University of Agricultural Sciences Bangalore encompasses five campuses: Agriculture College, GKVK Campus, Bangalore; Agriculture College Mandya; Agriculture College, Hassan; Sericulture College, Chinthamani (Chikkaballapura district); and Agriculture College, Chamarajanagara. The questionnaire was distributed to the entire cohort of 255 Post-Graduate students at the GKVK campus. Completed questionnaires could be obtained from only 124 students in spite of persistent follow up out of 124 students, 84 were girls and 40 were boys. Totally 124 students constitute the sample. Which accounts for 48.62%. The sampling method used was complete enumeration technique. With respect to boys, majority were belong to Assimilators (32.50%) and equal number of them (27.50) were belong to convergers and Divergent followed by accommodators. It is axiom to note that, the learning styles of PG students is varied among boys and girls. But, majority of Boys and Girls were divergent: added to these boys were assimilators where as girls are accommodators

After sophomore year, Still took a break, went home to Alabama and made a trip to Texas.

Terry Coppock FBA was a pioneer in three areas of scholarship – agricultural geography, land-use management and computer applications – whose academic career was at University College London and the University of Edinburgh, where he was the first holder of the Ogilvie Chair in Geography. He received the Victoria Medal from the Royal Geographic Society and was elected Fellow of the British Academy in 1976. Coppock, who was Secretary and then Chair of the Commission on World Food Problems and Agricultural Productivity of the International Geographical Union, served as Secretary Treasurer of the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland. Abstract The paper describes the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering approach in educating graduate students in MEMS technology. The approach is based on a collaboration project between the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University - Florida State University College of Engineering (FAMU-FSU COE) and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). The project aims at developing a line of electrostatically and magnetically actuated surface micromachined pumps. The paper describes our experience in this collaboration program and illustrates the educational aspects of SNL MEMS design tools. The paper also describes the micropump designs developed in the first phase of the project. The pumps are being fabricated at this time. Results related to performance will be presented at a later time. However, an overview of the work to be done in the next phase is also presented.

This research paper reports on a successful experience of the College of Technological Innovation at Zayed University in integrating a new project-based learning approach – Called User Experience Design Thinking – into the curriculum, mainly two bachelors programs: Web and Mobile Applications (WAM, in the IT College) and Multimedia Design (MMD in Arts College) of IT. The journey started in Fall 2019; the experiments span five full semesters were various challenges, as well as lessons learned, were identified and successfully solved. The new approach infuses a combination and integration of the general framework of design thinking (Brown, 2013), user-centered design (Norman, 2003, Buxton, 2004) as well as various user experience and usability methods and techniques. The UXDT addressed the multifaceted HCI education stressed out by the role that the college needs to play in preparing graduates for competitive jobs in the software development area, which is evolving in UAE
