The Handsome Barber is one of the barbershop businesses in Langsa City which was founded by Mr. Musliadi, in 2020 The Handsome Barber was established and had only been running for about 1 year, having its address at Jalan Ahmad Yani. The problems experienced by The Handsome Barber are the ups and downs of the number of customers using The Handsome Barber services every month and the planned targets are not being achieved. The aim of this research is to identify opportunities, threats, strengths, and weaknesses in The Ganteng Barber and create marketing strategies to improve the marketing system. The method used is SWOT and AHP. The results and discussion show that the company's internal and external factors identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats with a weighted score of Strengths 0.240, Weaknesses 0.208 Opportunities 0.315, and Threats 0.237. The marketing strategy in improving the marketing system at The Ganteng Barber is the S-O (Strength-Opportunity) Strategy to maintain a quality workforce, the W-O (Weakness-Opportunity) Strategy to maintain quality and good relationships with customers, the S-T (Strength-Threat) Strategy to empower a skilled workforce Experienced and W-T (Weakness-Threat) Strategy Increasing prices must be matched with quality. The conclusion of this study is based on the SWOT analysis Cartesius diagram, The Handsome Barber is in quadrant (I) where the quadrant is a good situation for the company to take advantage of its strengths to exploit existing opportunities.

The Isokon Furniture Company was never commercially successful, yet its legacy has stubbornly refused to die and disappear. Even today, this radical collection of plywood furniture is manufactured and used. The main reason is of course the names associated with it: Jack Pritchard, Wells Coates, Marcel Breuer, Walter Gropius, László Moholy-Nagy and – more recently – Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby. The genius little Isokon Penguin Donkey, first designed by the Austrian émigré architect Egon Riss in 1939 and marketed by publisher Allen Lane’s then new imprint Penguin Books, is particularly popular with younger generations of design students.

Catherine Comyn’s The Financial Colonisation of Aotearoa (2022) examines the centrality of finance in the colonisation of Aotearoa, from the sale of Māori lands and the first colonial emigration scheme to the founding of settler nationhood and the enforcement of colonial grievances. Moving from the formation of the New Zealand Company in the 1830s to the Hokianga Dog Tax Uprising at the close of the nineteenth century, this book reveals the inextricability of finance and colonialism. In this forum, Arama Rata, Jane Kelsey, and Simon Barber offer their thoughts on Comyn’s book and use it as a prompt to think about the legacies and ongoing ruptures of financial colonisation. The forum concludes with Comyn’s response to their readings of the book.

Google search data has received considerable attention for its predictive ability in various social and economic outcomes. In the arena of investments, a surge in online searches indicates an enhanced interest of investors, particularly retail, in that company. In this article, we have examined the association between Google search and stock prices in a sample of Indian companies. The results suggest that an increase in Google search is positively related to future excess stock returns, liquidity and volatility. The positive influence of Google search on stock prices, however, is temporary and reverses in the next week. We further show that the market sentiment moderates the interconnection between Google searches and future excess stock returns. The findings are in consonance with the ‘price pressure hypothesis’ of Barber and Odean (2008, Review of Financial Studies, 21(2), 785–818).

The triple anniversary in 2020 of Thomas Becket’s birth, death and translation has been an occasion to review and revisit many of the artefacts associated with the saint and his cult in England and across Europe. Many of these are items directly associated with his veneration in churches or in private devotions, but one object which served in neither capacity is an instrument case currently in the collection of the Worshipful Company of Barbers in London. This unusual object has been studied for its fine silver work, and possible royal associations, but little academic attention has so far been paid to the some of the iconography, particularly that of the scene of the murder of Thomas Becket depicted on the back of the box, the side to be worn against the body. In this article, we show how seemingly unusual elements in the iconography draw on particularly Flemish representations of Becket’s murder that, to date, have received little attention in Anglophone scholarship. From this, we discuss this scene and its significance in understanding the role the iconography may have been intended to serve, and the interplay between the decorative schema and what the surgeon thought about his own role with regard to the use of the case and its tools.

Romanen är en självbiografisk berättelse av författaren och före detta terroristen Barbara Balzerani. Romanens analys introduceras med en kort redogörelse av författarens liv och terrororganisationen Röda brigadernas aktiviteter. De motsatta perspektiven hos litteraturforskare Ruth Glynn och Antonio Tabucchi kontrasteras i inledningen som betraktar tidigare forskning och reception. Glynn tolkar romanen med stöd av det psykologiska begreppet ”trauma” medan Tabucchi lägger fokus på Balzeranis mörka historia. Syftet för min analys är att undersöka om och hur självframställningen blivit ett verktyg förförfattaren att bearbeta det förflutna och omdefiniera sin identitet. Analysen grundas kring teorier om subjektskonstruktion och ressentiment. I detta avseende har jag fått inspiration av Sven Anders Johanssons reflektioner över subjektskonstruktion från texten ”Självskrivna män” och Wendy Browns resonemang kring ”ressentiment” från texten ”Wounded attachments”. Andra teorier om genus, arbetet, subalternitet, våld, radikalisering förekommer också. Huvudtanken är att subjektet är en språklig platshållare som skapar sig själv dialektiskt i relation till den ”osynliga historien” som villkorar den synliga identiteten.Den osynliga historien utgör den kollektiva dimensionen. Balzeranis självbiografi konstruerar sin identitet genom att sätta samman olika berättelser från hennes liv och ge en riktning åt dessa. Genom att ”inrikta” det förflutna tolkar hon ”ideologiskt” sitt förhållande till den kollektiva dimensionen. Känslan av ressentiment är den röda tråd som håller ihop de olika berättelser som utgör den kollektiva dimensionen. Enligt min analys utvecklas berättelsen genom fyra olika faser som kännetecknar ressentimentet hos jaget: misslyckande, hämndbegär, smärta, vilja. Jaget känner sig misslyckat eftersom hon inte kan duga i det samhälle hon lever i. Hon vill inte anpassa sig till de begränsade duglighetsnormer som tillkommer en kvinna från arbetarklassen och klass-och könsbarriärerna förhindrar henne också från att utveckla sin potential och duga i den liberala illusionen om en meritokrati på lika villkor. Hon resonerar kring familjeliv, klass, genus, arbete för att rekonstruera en känsla av misslyckande. Anslutningen till Röda brigaderna är kopplad till längtan efter att få en mening i livet, som också är kopplad till misslyckandekänslan. Hämndbegäret framställs som reaktionen mot denna känsla av misslyckande. Hämndbegäret får utlopp inom Röda brigadernas våldsamma praktik. Jaget faller och blir traumatiserat när hon och Röda brigaderna blir medvetna om att de har misslyckats. Smärtan är kopplad till jagets och terroristernas självuppfattning som offer. Svårighet att tala och förvirring karakteriserar denna smärta. Hon hittar en inre balans eftersom hon vill leva i framtiden så att hennes vilja, eller hennes föreställning av viljan, lyckas neutralisera hatet. En melankolisk och sorglig känsla bunden till det förflutna finns kvar. Men Balzerani bibehåller sin radikala politiska identitet in i framtiden.Godkänt datum 2020-06-05

Créée en 1741, la Compagnie royale d’Afrique succède à des compagnies à privilèges qui n’ont connu à Marseille, deux siècles durant, que des déboires dans leurs relations avec les Régences de Barbarie. Or, pendant plus d’un demi-siècle cette nouvelle structure commerciale connaît un réel succès. Avec des représentants installés de manière pérenne essentiellement dans la Régence d’Alger – comptoirs à La Calle, Bône et Collo – elle organise et contrôle dans les eaux barbaresques, comme le fit la première Compagnie du corail au XVIe siècle, la pêche de ce produit apprécié sur la rive nord de la Méditerranée. Cependant, elle a pour tâche première d’assurer la traite des blés afin de participer au bon ravitaillement du royaume, tout en intervenant également sur d’autres marchés. Yet, for more than half a century, this new commercial structure experienced a real success. With officials durably settled primarily in the Alger Regency – trading stations in El Kala, Annaba and Collo –, the Royal African Company organizes and controls the fishery of coral in the Barbarian maritime territories, just like the first Coral Company did in the 16th century; the coral being a cherished product on the north shore of the Mediterranean Sea. However, the primary task of the Royal African Company is to ensure the trading of wheat in order to contribute to supplying the Kingdom of France and intervene as well on other markets. At the time when the Mediterranean becomes a peripheral area of world trade, when the economic thought calls into question the trading monopolies and when the Barbarian Regencies tend to normalize, this Company represents a good observatory to follow the commercial practices of the second half of the 18th century and analyze the strategies of the leading men. YesToy industry in the US is product driven and full of challenges. This case presents an overview of the California-based Micro Games of America (MGA) Entertainment, which is a consumer entertainment products company, engaged in innovative lines of proprietary and licensed products including toys and games, dolls, consumer electronics, home decor, stationery and sporting goods. It had more than 200 licences. In 2001, MGA launched a fashion doll called ‘Bratz’, and it sold 150 million Bratz dolls all over the world. Bratz line surpassed the legendary brand ‘Barbie’—Mattel, Inc.’s flagship brand—in a short span of time through many innovative marketing strategies and different product placement, roll-outs, tie-ins and other promotional tactics, despite facing many challenges, such as, fast-changing demographics, shorter product life cycle (PLC) and negative perceptions about brand. This case can be used to address two issues: first, structural change drivers and trends that shaped the toy industry in developed economies and, second, how to develop effective marketing strategies for product with shorter PLC in highly product-driven market?

Abstract The education system of the province of Ontario, Canada ranks among the best in the world and has been touted as a model of excellence for other countries seeking to improve their education system. In a system-wide reform, leaders used a political and professional perspective to improve student performance on basic academic skills. The school system rose to renown after this reform which moved Ontario from a “good” system in 2000 to a “great” one between 2003 and 2010 (Mourshed M, Chijioke C, Barber M. Premier Dalton McGuinty arrived in office in 2003 with education as his priority and was dubbed the “Education Premier” because of this mandate. His plan for reform had two primary goals: to improve student literacy and numeracy, and to increase secondary school graduation rates. McGuinty also wanted to rebuild public trust that had been damaged under the previous administration. The essential element of Ontario’s approach to education reform was allowing educators to develop their own plans for improvement. Abstract The College of Physicians of London, With which this study begins, was the premier medical corporation of early modern England. However, it was a comparatively recent body, being founded by Thomas Linacre and other humanists under crown patronage in 1518. London’s Barber Surgeons’ Company, by contrast, formed by the combination of the Barbers with the much smaller group of surgeons in 1540, had its origins from before 1308. The Society of Apothecaries, the ‘third part’ of practice, emerged under the College’s aegis as late as 161 7, but apothecaries had been members of the Grocers’ Company, one of the twelve great livery companies, from the medieval padded.

The ways by which Reatha’s persona and ambitions are furthermore shaped by her family’s itinerant lifestyle, her social station, and the public approval and opulence she encounters as an actress are interwoven throughout the chapter.

Abstract TRACEY: It is a great honour and pleasure for us to have you back at the Wells after twenty-odd years. I wonder if you could throw your mind back to the occasion of’Peter Grimes’, your first opera for the Wells: when you started to write it, had you had any sense of musical tradition or direction or did you just trust your own instinct?BRITTEN: The history of the first performance of’Peter Grimes’ at the Wells is really too well known for me to go into it now, but the actual background of the performances there is perhaps rather interesting. I did feel at that time that there was a great void in English opera. English operas had been written in the previous fifty years, but none of them meant much to me--and I had to find my own language. But I had a great piece ofluck, and that was that I was able to go to rehearsals and performances of virtually the whole of the repertoire of theWells at that time. I had friends who were singing in the Company and as I was planning ‘Grimes’ and actually writing it, I made use of the opportunity of getting to know the repertory extremely well. I learned a tremendous amount, particularly from ‘The Magic Flute’, ‘Traviata’, ‘The Bartered Bride’ and ‘The Barber ofSeville’. I felt particularly sympathetic to these, but I also learned a lot from the ones to which I was not so sympathetic. But there was something else: at that time I was very much involved with institutions like, for instance, Morley College,2 where Michael Tippett was Musical Director and we were both tremendously sympathetic to the music of Purcell, from whom I learned an enormous amount about the setting of the English language, about its rhythms, its sonorities. That gave me a greater sense of confidence and of not being quite so alone as I might have felt.

This chapter examines how the toy industry responded to feminist calls for change through the production of new types of toys and newly imagined toy consumers. While most industry leaders remained unconvinced that consumers were dissatisfied with their products, an influential minority of toymakers capitalized on feminist rhetoric by manufacturing new products: Barbie-inspired dolls with feminist sensibilities, and anatomically correct dolls reflecting the era’s liberal attitudes toward the body. Among these efforts to reach feminist consumers was a remarkable collaboration between one of the industry’s most recognized brands, Milton Bradley Company, and one of the industry’s strongest critics, Barbara Sprung of the Women’s Action Alliance. In the series of nonsexist, multiracial toys they created, the radical toy imagination not only came to life in objects; it also found a home in the industry itself.

When the Napoleonic Wars ended, the world looked very different to American marine insurers. Peace lowered the risks (and profits) of ocean commerce. The republic's economic turn inland and the collapse of the Federalist Party presaged a national political economy less attuned to insurers' interests. Some American marine insurers liked their business in its new form: less political, lower-risk, and lower-reward. Others, like the financier Jacob Barker, preferred to chase higher-reward underwriting opportunities. This chapter traces Barker's career, framing him as a consummate underwriter of the United States. Aggressive even by the standards of his contemporaries, Barker helped finance the War of 1812. When the war ended, he reshaped his financial portfolio to take advantage of a world in which the United States itself was no longer such a high-risk investment. He co-founded an insurance company that underwrote risky voyages to Latin America and helped establish numerous corporations that were later adjudged fraudulent. Although one might envision Barker as the harbinger new era of chaotic free-market capitalism, he and his fellow underwriters after 1815 were driven by the same combination of ambitions that had propelled underwriters of the previous two decades, and they employed many familiar techniques.

Abstract In his dramatic output of over fifty works for stage, radio, television, and film, the English author Howard Barker (b. 1946) occupies a singular niche. Though originally taking a left-wing satirical stance he has come to advocate a morally and politically ambiguous ‘Theatre of Catastrophe’; this aggressively black viewpoint he has defended in a collection of essays, Arguments for a Theatre. The following piece from that book was first delivered as a paper at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, in 1990. Barker’s plays present striking but ambiguous images rather than conventionally readable plots and refuse to give any easy guidelines for deciphering the action. In order to force audiences to do their own thinking, Barker uses disjunctions of every kind-abrupt changes of character, multivalent time and place, sudden switches of tone. Since the British theatre and broadcast media have not proved wholly sympathetic to this difficult genre, a company-the Wrestling School-began work in 1988 with the sole aim of staging his plays.

An injection laser is proposed that is capable of emitting coherent radiation in the spectral range from green to ultraviolet. This will be achieved by injecting holes from a p-type substrate through an asymmetric barrier into InN quantum wells, while the electrons will be provided by the host GaN. The electrons will be retained in the region of the quantum wells by the asymmetric barrier. Radiative recombination will occur inside the quantum wells at a wavelength determined by the thickness of the InN layer. The shortest wavelength obtainable in this system is 360 nm, corresponding to recombination across the GaN bandgap. The blue-green spectral region will be readily obtained with InN strained layers.

Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) is developing an Advanced Power Reactor Plus (APR+) which has several improved safety features. For one of the safety features, four Emergency Core Barrel (ECB) ducts are attached at the outer surface of the reactor barrel to guide well ECC water from the Direct Vessel Injection (DVI) lines to the reactor core if necessary. The main purpose of this study is to identify the vibration characteristic of the APR+ barrel, having four ECB ducts, and to compare it with a conventional barrel. For the identification, FE analysis and vibration (modal) test for a 1/5 scale model have been carried out in air and in quiescent water. The collateral purpose of this study is to quantify the effects of fluid in a narrow gap between the barrel and the outer vessel, which are the so-called mass, damping and stiffness effects exerted by the fluid.

Rolls-Royce centrifugal barrel compressors have provided reliable service to many users in a wide variety of applications since their introduction in the mid-1950s. In 1968, a family of standard impellers was developed for use in each frame size, followed by additional families of other diameter impellers developed at various times to achieve more or less head per stage or lower flow capability. Various other upgrades have also taken place over the years, each leading to an improvement in performance and predictability. However, the performance levels that were being achieved consistently lagged behind those of the authors’ company’s pipeline compressor frame sizes. In 2006 it was decided to invest heavily in upgrading the company’s barrel compressor capabilities. This paper details some of the steps that were taken to develop a fully integrated upgrade of our most popular frame size, the RCB. The improvements in performance capabilities of the impellers in terms of efficiency and flow range are discussed together with the results of parametric studies to improve the inlet and discharge flow path configurations. A description of the validation testing of selected impellers at various relative Mach Numbers, undertaken in our single stage test rig, is also included.

Abstract The global pandemic of the coronavirus outbreak in 2020 caused the world economy to shake and world energy demand to weaken, impacting oil prices to fall dramatically. In this situation, oil and gas companies need to adapt by streamlining costs. PT Mega Energi Tbk (PTME) is an upstream holding public company with several subsidiaries that manage oil and gas block assets in Indonesia. In 2018, PTME acquired oil-producing assets "W" and established the ME-W company. At that time, the oil price was 80 $ a barrel for purchase, but the oil price crisis in 2020 changed the plan. It was about PTME’s strategy for keeping W’s assets and sharing that pledge with the bank. In 2018, PTME secured financing from a bank to purchase W assets and launch ME-W. At that time, the cash flow of ME-W could service this debt, but as the oil price fell, simply maintaining business operations became impossible for the company. ME-W was forced to reduce operational expenses and delay the expansion plan, but as a result, the company's cash flow performance wasn't as strong when the loan arrangement was signed. If ME-W can't pay the installment of the principal and interest on the loan, PTME will lose its rights to ME-W. For this reason, the company must refinance to pay off the prior loan. PTME has another subsidiary, ME-B manages asset B, which sells gas and is not affected by the decline in the oil price. ME-B will submit for ME-W loan refinancing. Due to the high business risk in the oil and gas industry and ME-B doesn’t have assets whose more value than the previous loan, the company submitted a new loan scheme, Reserve-Based Lending (RBL). The RBL method can make the bank feel more secure because the determining loan amount uses the company's cash flow performance. The bank will do a redetermination every six months to review the company's performance. ME-B has an advantage in processing loan requests. ME-B only needs to provide forecast entitlement that reflects the gas sales agreement until the loan end date based on reserve tail calculation. The RBL system can help PTME to settle previous loans and preserve ME-W assets. This paper can provide information that the RBL method is commonly utilized by oil and gas companies and financial institutions overseas and about the possibility of financing oil and gas projects in Indonesia using the same method by local banks.

Abstract The concept of the well double barrier envelope is a common industry practice and main philosophy of well integrity discipline. This is well-described in some of the international standards: API RP90 (1 & 2), Norsok D10, ISO 16530 (1 & 2). This double barrier policy applies to wells with positive pressure at surface capable to flow naturally. Primary barrier envelope consists of well equipment which is continuously under pressure and in direct contact with hydrocarbon. In case primary barrier element fails, secondary barrier envelope will be the one exposed to well media and holding the pressure. This content of this paper is related to such kind of wells that can flow naturally and should comply to the double barrier policy. Any failure in the primary barrier envelope (means - completion) normally is addressed during workover by simply re-completing the well with new completion (after retrieval of the old one). This can be done almost unlimited number of times, as long as there is a place to set the packer. Failure in the secondary barrier envelope (means - casing) can be repaired as well, but not that easy and very limited amount of time. In some cases, especially for onshore wells it might be economically more reasonable to drill the new well rather than to deal with complicated workover. Depending on the Company policy, casing integrity can be restored in sections using casing patches or the entire length can renewed by running and cementing casing of smaller diameter. Obviously, in both cases it impacts the size of the completion, further well objectives and cannot be done multiple times.

Construction activities entail substantial disturbance of topsoil and vegetative cover. As a result, stormwater runoff and erosion rates are increased significantly. If the soil erosion and subsequently generated sediment are not contained within the site, they would have a negative off-site impact as well as a detrimental influence on the receiving water body. In this study, replicable large-scale tests were used to analyze the ability of products to prevent sediment from exiting the perimeter of a site via sheet flow. The goal of these tests was to compare products to examine how well they retain sediment and how much ponding occurs upstream, as well as other criteria of interest to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The products analyzed were silt fence, woven monofilament geotextile, Filtrexx Siltsoxx, ERTEC ProWattle, triangular silt dike, sediment log, coconut coir log, Siltworm, GeoRidge, straw wattles, and Terra-Tube. Joint tests and vegetated buffer strip tests were also conducted. The duration of each test was 30 minutes, and 116 pounds of clay-loam soil were mixed with water in a 300 gallon tank. The solution was continuously mixed throughout the test. The sediment-water slurry was uniformly discharged over an 8 ft by 20 ft impervious 3:1 slope. The bottom of the slope had a permeable zone (8 ft by 8 ft) constructed from the same soil used in the mixing. The product was installed near the center of this zone. Water samples were collected at 5 minute intervals upstream and downstream of the product. These samples were analyzed for total sediment concentration to determine the effectiveness of each product. The performance of each product was evaluated in terms of sediment removal, ponding, ease of installation, and sustainability.

The intent of this study is to identify and compare sociocultural barriers in various geographic regions that impede access, type and use of hormonal contraception, and methods to improve restrictions in access. Understanding and addressing sociocultural barriers to hormonal contraception on a larger intercontinental scale can create a more effective and inclusive healthcare system. A search using PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase was conducted on current and past literature performed in various developmental countries. Terms such as “birth control access AND developed nations”, “barriers of hormonal contraception AND low-income countries” were used. Studies included ranged from RCTs, cross-sectional studies, literature reviews, and meta-analyses. Countries reviewed with lower levels of development in Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America have demonstrated a rise in long-acting hormonal contraception (LARCs) after injectables. Barriers in these regions include misconceptions fertility and contraception use, access to modern contraceptives (these include oral and emergency contraceptive pills, implants, injectables, contraceptive patches and rings, intrauterine devices, female and male sterilization, vaginal barrier methods and female condoms), stigma and patriarchal settings that result in male influence on women’s reproductive choices. More developed regions of the world like the United States and Europe demonstrated a range of contraceptive options with the most compliance for intrauterine implants (IUDs) in younger reproductive women. The greatest hindrances for developed regions were cost, difficulty obtaining appointments, and fallacies for future fertility. Contraceptive education and culturally sensitive counseling should be emphasized for healthcare employees serving women with ease of access, and to strengthen reproductive support services. Advocating to provide underdeveloped regions with better contraceptive resources highlights an importance to give women globally the empowerment to choose the direction of their own reproductive journey.

Obtaining reliable estimates of aerodynamic roughness is necessary to interpret and accurately predict aeolian sediment transport dynamics. However, inherent uncertainties in field measurements and models of surface aerodynamic properties continue to undermine aeolian research, monitoring, and dust modeling. A new relation between aerodynamic shelter and land surface shadow has been established at the wind tunnel scale, enabling the potential for estimates of wind erosion and dust emission to be obtained across scales from albedo data. Here, we compare estimates of wind friction velocity (u*) derived from traditional methods (wind speed profiles) with those derived from the albedo model at two separate scales using bare soil patch (via net radiometers) and landscape (via MODIS 500 m) datasets. Results show that profile-derived estimates of u* are highly variable in anisotropic surface roughness due to changes in wind direction and fetch. Wind speed profiles poorly estimate soil surface (bed) wind friction velocities necessary for aeolian sediment transport research and modeling. Albedo-based estimates of u* at both scales have small variability because the estimate is integrated over a defined, fixed area and resolves the partition of wind momentum be-tween roughness elements and the soil surface. We demonstrate that the wind tunnel-based calibration of albedo for predicting wind friction velocities at the soil surface (us*) is applicable across scales. The albedo-based approach enables consistent and reliable drag partition correction across scales for model and field estimates of us* necessary for wind erosion and dust emission modeling.

Objectives. This Technical Brief aims to identify: 1) frameworks that describe organizational context and process characteristics relevant to cancer care delivery research, and compare these frameworks to the Integrated Framework recently developed by National Cancer Institute staff Weaver, Breslau, and colleagues; 2) approaches used to improve understanding of how organizational characteristics are described, measured, and analyzed in the context of cancer screening, diagnosis, or treatment; and 3) organizational context and process characteristics examined in studies assessing cancer care; and 4) evidence gaps and future research needs to advance the science of assessing the effects of organizational characteristics on cancer care. Review methods. We integrated discussions with Key Informants and syntheses of evidence from searches of literature published from 2010 to 2023, using PubMed, CINAHL, SCOPUS, PsycINFO, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, as well as select grey literature. Findings. We identified 17 frameworks that were developed or applied to examine the effects of organizational characteristics (including structures, context, and processes) on cancer care delivery. Our analysis of these frameworks supported the comprehensiveness of the Integrated Framework, though a few identified characteristics were not explicitly included in the Integrated Framework. We found 90 studies that take various approaches to describe, measure, and analyze organizational characteristics in the context of cancer care research. Of these, we identified 25 that tested associations between organization characteristics and screening, diagnosis, or treatment outcomes, and described measurement in detail. Cancer-related studies that include organizational measures have used a wide range of study designs and focused mostly on structural characteristics (e.g., type, size), total care models such as the patient-centered medical home, and processes of improvement project implementation and barrier assessment (such as guideline implementation). We identified specific organizational measures examined in the cancer care literature, noting little standardization of measures across studies and a need for multilevel inquiry. Our discussions with Key Informants and review of the literature indicated that many characteristics of healthcare organizations are relevant to cancer care delivery and useful to assess when precisely defined. Studies with stronger designs and more rigorous organizational measurement are needed to better determine the effects of organizational characteristics on the outcomes of cancer care. Conclusion. Our findings suggest that the Integrated Framework generally covers relevant organizational context and process characteristics. The literature has a wide array of studies examining organizational characteristics, but few studies directly associate organizational factors with clinical outcomes. Research and collaboration are needed to improve measurement of organizational factors, to clarify our understanding of multilevel aspects of organizational context and process and how they affect care, and to standardize terminology and measures.

Over many decades it has been accepted that the most economical way to produce a pipeline is to join together the standard lengths of pipe as quickly as possible, using a highly mobile task force of welders and other technicians, leaving tie-ins, crossings, etc. to smaller specialist crews. The work pattern which evolved almost invariably involved several crews of welders strung out along the pipelines, progress being controlled by the rate at which the leading pair could complete the weld root. The spread from this first crew to final inspection could be a considerable distance, acceptable on land but not acceptable offshore (a rapidly increasing need which reached a peak in the 1970's). This operation, involving costly lay barges, demanded even higher throughput rates to be achieved from a more compact working spread. In common with most manufacturing technologies, there was an increasing dissatisfaction with a system which relied entirely on the skill of a limited number of highly paid men who had little incentive to change their working practices. Increasingly there came reports of the development of new approaches to joining line-pipe, ranging from the mechanization of arc welding to entirely different forms of joining, for example, electron beam welding or mechanical joining. The investment in some of these developments is reported to be several million dollars. The review of present pipelining practice shows that only a handful has been put to practical use, and in the western world, probably only one, an arc welding variant, has been used to produce more than a few hundred miles of pipeline. The information available on these developments is sparse and is scattered amongst a range of companies and research agencies. A literature review and research study to collect together as much of this information as is available, assemble it into a coherent and useable form and identify those developments which show the most promise to fulfill future needs. The main body of the report, which reviews development of the welding processes has been divided into three main joining categories, Fusion Welding, Forge Welding and Mechanical Interference Joining. Within each category each process is considered separately in terms of process principles, general applications, application to pipeline welding, equipment for pipe welding, consumables, process tolerance and skill requirements, weld quality and inspection, process economics, limitations and future developments. This study and comprehensive report compares the economics of the various alternatives. For each process an estimate has been made of the procedural and development costs involved as well as personnel needs and likely production rates.

As a result, managing cultural diver-sity within a global team has become an essential part of ensuring motivation, creativity, innovation and efficiency in today’s business world.Global teams are typically composed of a diversity of experiences, frames of references, competencies, information and, not least, cultural backgrounds. As such, they hold a unique potential for delivering high performance in terms of innovative and creative approaches to global management tasks; however, in-stead of focusing on the potentials of cultural diversity, practitioners and studies of global teams tend to approach cultural diversity as a barrier to team success. This study explores some of the barriers that cultural diversity poses but also discusses its potential to leverage high performance in a global context.Our study highlights the importance of how team leaders and team members perceive ‘culture’ as both a concept and a social practice. We take issue with a notion of culture as a relatively fixed and homogeneous set of values, norms and attitudes shared by people of national communities; it is such a notion of culture that tends to underlie understandings that highlight the irreconcilability of cultural differences.Applying a more dynamic and context-dependent approach to culture as a meaning system that people negotiate and use to interpret the world, this study explores how global leadership teams can best reap the benefits of cultural diversity in relation to specific challenging areas of intercultural team work, such as leadership style, decision making, relationship building, strategy process, and communication styles. Based on a close textual interpretation of 31 semi-structured interviews with members of global leader-ship teams in eight Danish-owned global companies, our study identified different discourses and per-ceptions of culture and cultural diversity. For leaders of the global leadership teams (Danish/European) and other European team members, three understandings of cultural diversity in their global teams were prominent:1)Cultural diversity was not an issue2)Cultural diversity was acknowledged as mainly a liability. Diversities were expressed through adifference in national cultures and could typically be subsumed under a relatively fixed numberof invariable and distinct characteristics.3)Cultural diversity was an asset and expressions of culture had to be observed in the situationand could not simply be derived from prior understandings of cultural differences.A clear result of our study was that those leaders of global teams who drew on discourses of the Asian ‘Other’ adherred to the first two understandings of cultural diversity and preferred leadership styles that were either patriarchal or self-defined as ‘Scandinavian’. Whereas those leaders who drew on discourses of culture as dynamic and negotiated social practices adhered to the third understanding of cultural di-versity and preferred a differentiated and analytical approach to leading their teams.We also focused on the perceptions of team members with a background in the country in which the global teams were co-located. These ‘local’ team members expressed a nuanced and multifaceted perspective on their own cultural background, the national culture of the company, and their own position within the team, which enabled them to easily navigate between essentialist perceptions of culture while maintain-ing a critical stance on the existing cultural hegemonies. They recognised the value of their local knowledge and language proficiency, but, for those local members in teams with a negative or essentialist view of cultural diversity, it was difficult to obtain recognition of their cultural styles and specific, non-local competences. 3Our study suggeststhat the way global team members perceive culture, based on dominant societal dis-courses of culture, significantly affects the understandings of roles and positions in global leadership teams. We found that discourses on culture were used to explain differences and similarities between team members, which profoundly affected the social practicesand dynamics of the global team. We con-clude that only global teams with team leaders who are highly aware of the multiple perspectives at play in different contexts within the team hold the capacity to be alert to cultural diversity and to demonstrate agility in leveraging differences and similarities into inclusive and dynamic team practices.

Channel Islands National Park (CHIS) has conducted long-term ecological monitoring of the kelp forests around San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Anacapa and Santa Barbara Islands since 1982. The original permanent transects were established at 16 sites between 1981 and 1986 with the first sampling beginning in 1982, this being the 33rd year of monitoring. An additional site, Miracle Mile, was established at San Miguel Island in 2001 by a commercial fisherman with assistance from the park. Miracle Mile was partially monitored from 2002 to 2004, and then fully monitored (using all KFM protocols) since 2005. In 2005, 16 additional permanent sites were established to collect baseline data from inside and adjacent to four marine reserves that were established in 2003. Sampling results from all 33 sites mentioned above are included in this report. Funding for the Kelp Forest Monitoring Program (KFM) in 2014 was provided by the National Park Service (NPS). The 2014 monitoring efforts utilized 49 days of vessel time to conduct 1,040 dives for a total of 1,059 hours of bottom time. Population dynamics of a select list of 71 “indicator species” (consisting of taxa or categories of algae, fish, and invertebrates) were measured at the 33 permanent sites. In addition, population dynamics were measured for all additional species of fish observed at the sites during the roving diver fish count. Survey techniques follow the CHIS Kelp Forest Monitoring Protocol Handbook (Davis et al. 1997) and an update to the sampling protocol handbook currently being developed (Kushner and Sprague, in progress). The techniques utilize SCUBA and surface-supplied-air to conduct the following monitoring protocols: 1 m2 quadrats, 5 m2 quadrats, band transects, random point contacts, fish transects, roving diver fish counts, video transects, size frequency measurements, and artificial recruitment modules. Hourly temperature data were collected using remote temperature loggers at 32 sites, the exception being Miracle Mile where there is no temperature logger installed. This annual report contains a brief description of each site including any notable observations or anomalies, a summary of methods used, and monitoring results for 2014. All the data collected during 2014 can be found in the appendices and in an Excel workbook on the NPS Integrated Resource Management Applications (IRMA) portal. In the 2013 annual report (Sprague et al. 2020) several changes were made to the appendices. Previously, annual report density and percent cover data tables only included the current year’s data. Now, density and percent cover data are presented in graphical format and include all years of available monitoring data. Roving diver fish count (RDFC), fish size frequency, natural habitat size frequency, and Artificial Recruitment Module (ARM) size frequency data are now stored on IRMA at https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/Reference/Profile/2259651. The temperature data graphs in Appendix L include the same graphs that were used in past reports, but include additional violin plot sections that compare monthly means from the current year to past years. In addition to the changes listed above, the layout of the discussion section was reordered by species instead of by site. The status of kelp forests differed among the five park islands. This is a result of a combination of factors including but not limited to, oceanography, biogeography and associated differences in species abundance and composition, as well as sport and commercial fishing pressure. All 33 permanent sites were established in areas that had or were historically known to have had kelp forests in the past. In 2014, 15 of the 33 sites monitored were characterized as developing kelp forest, kelp forest or mature kelp forest. In addition, three sites were in a state of transition.
