The article is devoted to the study of the relevance of anthropological issues in the beginning of twentieth century and socio-cultural background of the anthropological sciences. The specificity of the subject and method of anthropology as a science in general focused on the systematization of empirical material which was studied. In this context, the logic of the formation of cultural / social anthropology and its instrumental interest to the video productions of technical media is studied. Anthropology tried to form a scientific understanding of human world as a holistic phenomenon (combining theoretical generalizations based on empirical data), while cultural anthropology focused on the study of cultural diversity. Visual anthropology emerged as a crossing of the fields of cultural anthropology as an academic discipline and the field of application of technical optical media, and thus a new source of empirical material. The gradual accumulation of empirical material in the "field researches" of anthropologists allowed to significantly expand the subject area and optics of anthropological science. And also it allowed visual anthropology to go gradually beyond the instrumental function that was originally intended for it. Meanwhile, the text-centered view of ethnographic material led to the transform of the culture of indigenous peoples into the codes of Western civilization, and hence to its reduction. Any of the various authentic non-Western cultures fundamentally distinguishes them from the unification style of the modern culture. The accumulation of video production by ethnography has allowed not only to preserve the disappearing authentic cultures, but also to develop methods of systematization of visual material, as well as to understand the role of visual anthropology as an autonomous discipline of the humanities. The integration of two aspects of visual anthropology (the production and study of images) casts doubt the classical style of positivist science: in particular, on the one hand the status of the subject as an observer or a spectator, on the one hand, and the monopoly of text optics, on the other.

The article is devoted to the analysis of historical dynamics of university and its classification of cultural types. The main part of attention is concerned over the classical model of university and its transformations. The university carries out a social institution. It has absence of its own an autonomous field of culture, which is a form of spiritual rather than social production. Education is a set of social institutions that produce the social structure directly, that is, social technology with the purpose of human and social production of the new model. The society of the late Modern becomes a collection of social institutions (not only educational, but also legal, political, economical, and even in a certain sense cultural) and industries (specialized fields of material production). Education in this sense is a form of human production in general, while economics, politics and law are generally aimed at the indirect production of people through the logic of much complicated institutes movement: economics, politics, law (goods, power structures and laws). Depending on the national model of education, universities determine the priority of certain educational strategies. The university as a social technology, based on the new sample of the anthropological model, forms disciplinary practices that function for production of habitus and cultural capital, and also provides identification "under the auspices of the concept of culture" (B. Readings) in the Modern era. This cultural-historical period is characterized by the fact that social control is carried out not with the help of personal coercion, but of the passage through institutions. A higher educational institution in the era of Modernity is the most consistent embodiment of the idea of a social institution as an intermediary between spiritual and material production. Culture in this context acts as a form of "high culture," that is, as a way of human existence just like this, with value orientations on the foundations of universal cult of reason. The "Cultural Mission" of the University is a mediation between the regulatory ideas of the Modern and a certain type of state that is, to be a social technology of nation-building. The technology of cultivating reason is provided by studying at the Philosophy Faculty and is an obligatory philosophical component for other faculties in the German model, created by V. Humboldt. The formation of the cult of universal reason and self-sufficient subject is the basic task of the classical university and its leading sociocultural function and cultural mission.

Given the state sponsorship of film production in Germany, this article examines general mechanisms in the formation of meaning in German filmmaking. With reference to Schimank’s framework of agent–structure dynamics and based on a constructivist understanding of the world, the results of 97 expert interviews with screenwriters, directors, producers, distributors, cinema theatre operators, funding representatives and public television editors, as well as document analyses, show that the medium’s construction of reality is anything but unconditioned. On the contrary, due to the fundamental role of film funding and public television in the agent constellations intertwined with social structures that shape the film production process in Germany, the medium’s key communicators are confronted with expectations that go far beyond economic parameters. More precisely, the article reveals that German filmmaking reflects a political dimension, and expresses hierarchies and constraints that prompt struggles for legitimate meaning and challenge any autonomous practice in the field.

This Article is written based on the research “Religious Show as Cultural Production Field: Study of Mamah dan Aa Beraksi TV program on Urban Indonesian TV Channel Indosiar”. This research based on assumption that religious show as cultural products are generated in an autonomous domain involving actors - production teams, creative teams, preachers, emcees and audiences. Using ethnographic methods, through close observation, this research finds that the religious show indicate the logic interpretation of religious criteria represented by the preachers, and the market criteria which the production team is responsible for. Both of these criteria are mixed in producing religious show. On that context, the theme of low carbon emission has succeeded in entering as a theme that meets market and religious criteria. From the market side, this theme has relevance with the protection of a greater public interest. Meanwhile, in terms of religious criteria, bringing the issue of low carbon emission into religious shows is the same as carrying out a religious mission to reduce the negative impact of bubble carbon.

The article analyzes the phenomenon of intra-city inequality under the rule of city-forming enterprises in the northern single-industry (oil) town by employing R. Brubaker’s cognitive-linguistic version of social constructivism. The “capital” of the LUKOIL Oil Company — Kogalym (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug — Yugra) — was chosen as a research focus. The mechanisms of production and contestation of intra-city inequality in Kogalym are analyzed based on complex historical-field research data. The corporate imageineering (Ch. Rutheiser’s term) of Kogalym, ritual aspects of the town culture, as well as various discursive frameworks of the town’s selfpresentation are considered. We focus our attention on the complex social antagonism between oil workers and non-oil workers; we investigate its causes and dynamics, specifically, through the case of the transformation of the Kogalym Day celebration. We conclude that — in the context of a single-industry town — the cultural hegemony of the dominant group is ensured through closely related practices: the corporate unification of the cultural landscape of the town, consolidation of the dominant group’s point of view in the local historical narrative, reframing of the professional holiday of the dominant group as town-wide, official holiday commemorations, and gift rituals. The grassroot frustration on the part of the excluded is manifested in the form of a folklore reaction to the symbols of the “dominant” group, the creation of a historical narrative and places of memory alternative to the official canon. At the same time, the specific life cycle of the northern single-industry town’s population considerably diminishes its cultural diversity.

Songgungni Culture, formed in the late Bronze Age of Korean peninsula, is characterized by the increased power of chieftains, uses of bronzeware, and constructions of huge burial mounds known as Guhoekmyo. The discussion on the difference of Songgungni Culture from previous cultural forms has been divided into the view to see it as foreign influences and that to see it derived from the previous local cultures. The author suggested the latter view first in 1992 but the findings accumulated since then lead us to rethink the origin of Songgungni Culture from a perspective that conjoins these two oft-conflicting views. The Zhou Dynasty and paddy field agrarian culture in the lower area of the Yangtze River influenced the formation of Songgungni Culture given the following findings. First, the Zhou Dynasty’s ceramic art called Beating Technique was discovered in Songgungni Culture with other artifacts such as weights made of stone, bottom parts of Chinese earthenware, and the jar coffins indicating the existence of ascribed status. Second, the excavations of paddy fields, Yunnan- style kilns, independent pillar structures, flask-shaped storage holes, and pestles suggest the propagation of the paddy field rice culture of the lower Yangtze along the coastline of the Shandong Peninsula. Under these foreign influences, Songguk-ri type potteries and other creative agricultural tools were produced. The differentiation of the previous joint family system into the nuclear produced lots of downsized dwelling areas which characterize Songguk-ri culture. And the innovation in the yielding capacity made possible by paddy fields also shows an aspect of Chiefdom settled into this area during the time. The surplus production of this period was not enough to advance towards the autonomous production of bronzeware. The increased size of chieftains’ tombs did not contain enough burial goods. Given the aforementioned findings, Songgungni Culture could be understood as an early stage of Chiefdom, just getting out of the state of fragmented society.

The article contributes to creating an outline of the significant postwar theoretical approaches that examine the role, purpose, and significance of architecture in war and war crimes. Starting from the Clausewitz thesis that ?war is not autonomous?, this paper attempts to reveal ?the blood that has dried in the codes? (Foucault), politics hidden behind the four walls of architecture. From the concepts of Brutality in Stone (Kluge), Warchitecture (Herscher) or Forensic Architecture (Weizman), through the lenses of architecture, the article exposes war, politics, and ideologies that shape and drive architecture by reimagining and repurposing it both in its primary, functional and cultural, representative sense. A shift from ?the era of the witness? (Felman) to the decade of evidence (Weizman) promotes architecture and its remains to the level of science, global governing, and law. The connection of timely-distanced emancipatory practices influenced by Holocaust studies establishes a discursive field for architecture as a performative rather than representative practice. The theoretical frame of the postwar landscape as second nature (Adorno) is crucial for discussing the role of architecture in the Holocaust. Furthermore, it stresses the work of Herscher and Weizman as a contribution to the critique of the depoliticized processes of resolution of the contemporary war crimes and post-conflict reconciliation. Architecture as a societal practice could potentially have a central position in memory and knowledge production, as well as the production of a counter-public sphere.

This dissertation offers a unique examination of new cultures and forms of social movement organizing that include horizontal networking, non-hierarchical decision-making and governance combined with the importance of public visual art. Based on 23 months of ethnographic fieldwork, I analyze how processes of neoliberalism and globalization have influenced youth organizing and shaped experiences of historical marginalization. What makes youth activism in Southern Mexico unique from that occurring elsewhere (i.e. Occupy Movements in U.S. and Europe) is the incorporation of indigenous organizing practices and identities with urban subcultures. At the same time, the movements I study share important characteristics with other social movements, including their reliance on direct-action tactics such as occupations of public space and sit-ins, as well as their creative use of digital media technologies (i.e. Arab Spring). This research contributes to the study of social movements and popular politics, globalization, culture and resistance, and the politics of space by examining how youth activists combine everyday practices and traditional social movement actions to sustain autonomous political projects that subvert institutional and spatial hierarchies. They do so through decentralized activist networks that resist cooptation by the state and traditional opposition parties, while at the same time contesting the spatial exclusion of marginalized communities from the city center. This research contributes a critical analysis of the limits of traditional models of social change through electoral politics and traditional opposition groups, such as labor unions, by challenging us to take seriously the innovative models of politics, culture and governance that Mexican youth are offering us. At a larger level, my work suggests the importance of genuinely engaging with alternative epistemologies that come from places we may not expect- in this case urban, indigenous, and marginalized youth.

Labour process theory has been a key resource for the sociological study of work for over four decades. Yet, labour process theory has been conspicuous by its absence from research into cultural labour (Banks, 2007; Dean and Jones, 2003; Hesmondhalgh and Baker et al., 2011). This thesis firstly examines value production and the dynamics of managerial control and creative autonomy within the recorded music industry. Acknowledging the weaknesses identified with “critical theory” approaches in failing to consider the “content” of cultural work (Banks, 2007; McKinlay and Smith, 2009), this thesis considers the art-commerce relation in terms of the interaction between identity, interests and habitus. The thesis draws on data collected from research participants active within the recorded music industry. The data collected consists of forty participants through thirty-one semi-structured interviews and secondary data from four group interviews. The original contribution to knowledge made by this thesis is to conceptualise the art-commerce relation in the recorded music industry as a conflict over potential exchange-value in terms of Bourdieu’s forms of capital. Empirical findings from this research show forms of managerial control consistent with responsible autonomy, simple control and bureaucratic control (Edwards, 1979; Friedman, 1977). Rather than control based on maximising economic surplus value, music companies seek to reduce uncertainties of converting objectified cultural capital produced in the labour process into forms of economic or symbolic capital. Control within the recorded labour process depends on forms of legitimate authority in terms of economic control of the labour process and “artistic authority” (Ryan, 1992) based on Bourdieu’s notions of cultural and symbolic capitals. The relationship between art and commerce is also considered through the interaction between artistic identity, conflicts of interests and a musical habitus. Artistic identity exists as an acted identity where musicians’ social identities are managed based on the levels of capital. The pursuit or possession of large amounts of economic capital acts as a stigma for which musicians engage in repair work (Goffman, 1968; Jenkins, 2014). Similarly, lack of cultural capital leads to impression management over how musicians identify themselves. Economic inequality of the musicians’ employment relationship is not seen as a key determinant of conflict. Rather it is compromise and a lack of autonomy that leads musicians to resist creative control. Musicians’ sense of self, and motivation to put up with low pay and poor conditions, is reflected by the internal drive to make music characteristic of an artistic habitus.

Using terms and ideas from Pierre Bourdieu's theories of cultural production, this thesis reconsiders the positions of four authors functioning at the end of the nineteenth century. Therefore, a brief introduction presents the principles behind Bourdieu's work. The reconstruction of the field is begun in the first chapter, 'Towards a Democratic Culture; A Redefining Voice of the 1890s'. It reveals the literary field to be the site of a struggle to impose the legitimate definition of literature and investigates some of the new voices entering the conflict in the 1890s. Considering the development of the literary biography, the literary manual, literary tourism and the appearance of the 'celebrity' author, it points towards the conflict at the heart of the field which centres around opposing principles of valuation. In Chapter Two, 'Structural Divisions: George Gissing and New Grub Street', the reconstruction of the field is continued through a re-positioning of Gissing within the social and cultural networks of his time. It considered in more detail the opposing principles of legitimacy underlying the issue of definition, through a new reading of the novel which introduces the conflict between the sub-fields of large-scale and restricted production. Chapter Three, 'Collective Misrecognition": Walter Besant and Henry James' concentrated on the dual economy necessitated by the differing systems of valuation adopted in each sub-field, revealing the problems encountered in a field which deals in both symbolic and economic capital. The field of Besant and James is reconstructed initially through their contributions to 'The Art of Fiction' debate. The writing, action and fortunes of Besant and James are then reappraised in order to position them within this dual economy, and question their status as representatives of the commercialisation of art and indifferent aestheticism, respectively. Finally, the sub-field of large scale production is considered in greater detail in Chapter Four, 'The Sub-Field of Large-Scale Production: J.M. Barrie, New Journalism and Sentimental Tommy'.

In this paper, the evocative nature of patina on stringed instruments is linked to the four agents of transformation that create it. These correspond to four nostalgic values: nostalgic reflection on the passage of time; nostalgia inspired by use; nostalgia for craftsmanship and pastoral nostalgia. Actors in the subfield of restricted cultural production of stringed instruments invoke one or more of these nostalgic values explicitly as a means to rationalize their actions to competing actors and to the broader public in their battle for status. Patina offers visible proof of their claims. Actors in the subfield of large-scale cultural production do not appeal to specific nostalgic values. Rather, they partake of the nostalgic aura surrounding antique instruments by "pasting" artificial patina onto their instruments. This serves to validate the idea of nostalgia. It also lays bare tensions existing in the broader field of cultural production over questions concerning the past and present.

My thesis is an examination of Singapore's aspiration to become a Global City for the Arts as set out in the Renaissance City Report released in 2000. By examining the key issues surrounding Singapore's attempt to become a Global City for the Arts, this thesis discuss the reasons why Singapore want to be achieve this aim and identifies the key obstacles in realising this goal. Using a Pierre Bourdieu framework of analysis, I provide a different way of examining Singapore's perception of its position in relation to other cities in the world and highlight key areas that Singapore needs to develop as it seeks to truly become a Global City for the Arts. By expanding and extending Bourdieu's concepts of 'field' and 'habitus', I show how the Government firstly, uses a variety of rules and regulations to manage the cultural production of arts and culture in Singapore and secondly, how it attempts to inculcate an appreciation of a specific aesthetic style in both Singaporean artists and audiences. I argue that Singapore's quest to become a Global City for the Arts is stymied due to its inability to develop a meaningful international global profile through the way it attempts to micro-manage the creation, production and consumption of culture in Singapore. These issues coupled with a rapidly changing Singapore society only serve to undermine Singapore's attempt to become a Capital of Culture. I assert that unless there is a fundamental shift in the way policy directives are implemented and enforced in Singapore, it is highly unlikely that Singapore can truly attain its goal of becoming a Global City for the Arts.

The expanding discourse surrounding the importance of magazines in the field of cultural production during the 1970s presents the alternative art press as a forum that contributed to the dematerialization of art and presented a more democratic space within which to encounter artworks. While discussion surrounding alternative art magazines has often revolved around the idea of the “museum without walls,” magazines have also been recognized as a site of contradiction within the artistic avant-garde. The alternative art press has come to be seen as a contributing factor in the failure of avant-garde movements trying to escape institutional power structures. Acting as a lifeline to the art market and institutions of art, alternative art magazines impeded artists from achieving the utopian goal of conflating art and life and escaping the confines and context of the institutional white cube. Drawing upon Pierre Bourdieu’s essay, “The Field of Cultural Production, or: The Economic World Reversed,” this thesis aims at articulating a new space within which to consider the contributions of alternative art magazines. Through case studies of the New York based Avalanche (1970-1976) and the Toronto based File (1972-1989) I argue that focus must be shifted to consider the medium of the magazine as a fertile ground exploited by artists, editors and publishers, in order to redefine and call into question how “the game” of cultural production was being played at the time. Instead of escaping the institution altogether artists took advantage of the medium of the magazine to erect their own institutional alternatives.

Internationally, universities are undergoing renewal because of technological and social changes that both increases the importance of open and flexible learning, as well as makes it practicable. Net-based education makes it possible to create courses where students can collaborate and share knowledge globally. Collaborative Learning in Virtual Communities, with the working title Sesame, is a cooperative project between Blekinge Institute of Technology, BTH, and University of Pretoria, UP that has intention to provide a course like this. The aim of this collaboration is to initiate research in, as well as to test, and evaluate methods for net-based collaborative learning to see how this can provide new perspectives for students and lecturers in both countries. One key concept in the project is ?internationalisation at home? and this means interaction and knowledge sharing between people from different countries, and cultures, without them having to physically leave their country. In this thesis we describe the phase of constituting Sesame focusing on the cooperation between the involved parties from the two countries.

Early fan studies positioned fans as 'textual poachers' (Jenkins, 1992), suggesting that fans poach characters and materials from texts as an act of resistance towards commercial culture to form their own readings through fan cultural production such as fan fiction. As such, fans are often presented as a unified, communal group interacting within the context of fan communities that are considered alternative social communities with 'no established hierarchy' (Bacon-Smith, 1992, p. 41). However, Milly Williamson argued that fans do not all operate from a position of cultural marginality. Fans not only go on to collaborate with the media producers they allegedly poach from, they also "engage in elitist distinctions between themselves and other ... fans" (Williamson, 2005, p. 103). In this dissertation, I look at fan cultural production (specifically fan fiction) by appropriating Bourdieu's (1993) theory on the field of cultural production. I also suggest that the field of fan cultural production manifests the principles of a gift economy (Mauss, 1954). In circulating fan cultural production as gifts, fans are entering into a social relationship of reciprocity, where fan reputation, or fan symbolic capital, becomes tied to the gifts presented to the fan community and the social network of the fan author. The accumulation of fan social, fan cultural and fan symbolic capitals creates a subgroup of fans who are often treated like celebrities by their peers, and these fan subcultural celebrities often go on to determine the social and cultural norms of a fan community. This often results in conflict within fandom as fan status is frequently contested and challenged. By employing an ethnographic study on the fandoms of The X-Files, Angel and the re- imagined Battlestar Galactica, I argue that fan culture is not as homogenous as early fan studies proposed as the boundaries of community and fan celebrity status are frequently challenged.

This landmark collection makes a major contribution to the burgeoning field of broadside ballad study by investigating the hitherto unexplored treasure-trove of over 100,000 Central/Eastern European broadside ballads of the Czech Republic, from the 16th to the 19th century. Viewing Czech broadside ballads from an interdisciplinary perspective, we see them as unique and regional cultural phenomena: from their production and collecting processes to their musicology, linguistics, preservation, and more. At the same time, as contributors note, when viewed within a larger perspective—extending one’s gaze to take in ballad production in bordering lands (such as Germany, Poland, and Slovakia) and as far Northwest as Britain to as far Southwest as Brazil—we discover an international phenomenon at work. Czech printed ballads, we see, participated in a thriving popular culture of broadside ballads that spoke through text, art, and song to varied interests of the masses, especially the poor, worldwide.

The monograph is devoted to the problem of recreating the linguistic-ethnic unity of the Old Russian anthroponymic and toponymic systems, the discovery of direct connections between the proper name and mental landmarks. The monograph provides a comprehensive description of the onomasticon of ancient Russian monuments of writing in line with comparative historical linguistics, taking into account the encyclopedic, ethnolinguistic and etymological characteristics of proper names. The system and structure of the onomastic space of monuments of ecclesiastical and secular content of the XI-XIII centuries are investigated, conceptual approaches to their description are proposed. The study of the functions of proper names, their morphemics and semantics allowed us to establish the national and cultural specifics of the Old Russian onomastic vocabulary, to determine the prospects for its evolution, as well as the formation of the modern Russian anthroponymic system. Modeling of the Old Russian onomastic space both in the field of anthroponymy and toponymy takes into account the connection of proper names with contextual usage. The participation of nominal signs in the formation of the space of written and artistic texts of the era of the Kievan state is based on the attachment of certain proper names to texts of a religious and secular nature. Nomination in the space of proper names is considered in the monograph not only as a process of activity of a creative nature, but also as a means of onymic word production in the older era. It is addressed to specialists in historical lexicology and onomastics, language history, teachers of literature, local historians.

From the point of view of the new science of globalism, the problems of the ecological, socio-economic state of the world and countries are considered through the prism of the interaction of the human psyche and society and the inhabited world. The criteria of ecological civilization of countries and peoples are justified. Optimizing the consumption of natural bio-and energy resources is becoming a fundamental environmental factor for sustainable development. The "Law of the maximum for humanity" as the law of the biosphere can be the arbitration court, the neutral force that will explain the historical need for mutual understanding, taking into account the interests of ecology and economy for the survival of man as a biovid on Earth; a new reality will begin to form — the phenomenon of co-residence of the world society with the biosphere. The world's population, its energy and bio-consumption, as well as all living matter on the planet, must correspond to the biological capacity of the Earth and not go beyond its boundaries. The task of the society is to implement a worldview breakthrough at the current stage of development, its own cultural mutation, which in the future will create the basis for adaptive technological and socio-cultural development. The task is to classify the entire Earth as a "Green Book" and to solve systemic environmental problems of a global nature. An integral part of sustainable development should be the principle of "vital consumption" at both the personal and social level, instead of the dominant principle of"expanded production and consumption". The indicator of the" culture of consumption "of natural resources, both at the individual level and at the level of society, should be included as an integral part of the integral indicator in the "True Indicator of Progress" and the "Human Development Index". The book is interdisciplinary in nature; it is a kind of scientific and philosophical poetic essay intended for teachers and students of universities in the field of sociology, ecology, biology and related fields, as well as for everyone who cares about the future of society.

AbstractManufacturing and logistic service companies are increasingly confronted with high dynamics and complexity. Due to its particular suitability for short-term and situation-dependent decision-making, autonomous control can improve planning and control of production and related transportation processes. This chapter gives an overview of the research that the BIBA—Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH has performed over the past years in the field of autonomously controlled production and transportation networks. The chapter focuses on the modeling approaches and the autonomous control methods that have been developed. These methods have been evaluated using both theoretical and real-world scenarios. The results show the applicability and suitability of autonomous control in complex and dynamic production and transportation environments. In addition, influences on the methods’ performance and the integration of autonomous control into conventional planning and control systems are discussed. Finally, the chapter looks at the significance of autonomous control in the context of Industry 4.0 and shows the relations between both concepts.

Abstract The events unfolding in Syria since spring 2011 have led to a thorough transformation of the intellectual and artistic space in which Syrian authors, filmmakers, and artists move. Starting from an overview of the connections of institutions, artists, and works that form this contemporary space of cultural production, this chapter goes on to consider the problems existing theoretical conceptions of such spaces from the sociology of arts encounter when faced with the empirical realities of the Syrian case. It shows that the transnational, unstable, and often transient nature of these formations and their links with large-scale socio-political changes, such as wars, are difficult to grasp with conceptual toolkit developed on the model of the unusually stable spaces of production of Western Europe and the US.

Abstract Men's leisure has long been considered a 'male preserve' in which male purview is the norm, and women are relegated to subordinate roles. Current research and events indicate that masculinity continues to dominate leisure settings and impinges on women's leisure via factors ranging from social gender norms to overt acts of violence. Drawing on current research, cultural trends, and feminist theory and philosophy, this chapter examines the juxtapositions in culture and rhetoric that on the one hand promote female empowerment, and on the other provide footing for a contrary argument that men and masculinity are under threat. Related research also provides insight into a possible path forward including men's engagement in leisure violence prevention and implications for women's leisure and the leisure field.

The capitalist system maintains the colonial logic in the dialogue between knowledge and ways of life. The accumulation of material wealth, individualism, production of goods and exacerbated consumption have resulted in imbalance, physical and symbolic exhaustion of the planet. The field of arts does not constitute an autonomous system in relation to culture, to the aforementioned cultural modes. In it, the processes of formation of subjects, exclusion and discrimination also result from neoliberalism, which imposes a Promethean education linked to the notion of civility and progress, causing malnutrition of feeling, sensitivity, and imagination. The poetic state is relegated to the background and restricted to literary expression. Artistic practices are inserted in the truth regimes of the hegemonic models that produce them. Building other pedagogies requires thinking about ways to deviate from the totalizing ontologies of the so-called traditional educational thought. The impact of (hegemonic) european theoretical constructions on classroom relationships needs to be considered, as well as racism and the absence of women in the epistemic field. It is in this context that initiatives to rethink the dichotomy between reason and imagination present in westernized culture gain importance. Imagination is an important factor of psychosocial balance, it is through imagination that the whole process of symbolization, signification and de-alienation of human thought takes place. Based on the notion that the imaginary and rationality are not antagonistic psychic spheres, the Pedagogy of the Imaginary proposes the reunion of rational and poetic forms of culture based on the revaluation of the imaginative function and reflection on the purpose and meaning we have given to life and education. This without resorting to a set of teaching techniques or strategies, much less taking the Pedagogy of Imaginary as a discipline whose content deals with the imagination or creativity. This study began with the completion of the discipline Pedagogy of the Imaginary in Visual Arts (2020.2/ UFPE), where the participation of students provided insights into the need to identify forms of resistance to hegemonic cultural modes, in addition to motivating us to think about a Pedagogy of the Imaginary for the Artistic Education. Some questions remain: 1) How can the knowledge about art/ life of students undergoing training in the field of teaching/ learning arts be articulated with studies on decoloniality and the Imaginary?; 2) How can the Pedagogy of the Imaginary be conceived for the field of Artistic Education and how can it be plotted with the debate on decoloniality?; 3) How do undergraduate art students think about the possibilities of deviation within their teacher training and internship practices? The doctoral project “Libertarian artistic education. A counter-pedagogy?” which began its second year in October 2021, at FBAUP, intends to continue this debate.

Abstract Inflow Control Device (ICD) technology delays the production of unwanted fluids while addressing some of the challenges associated with long horizontal and deviated wells. Autonomous ICD (AICD) technology functions like ICDs during dry oil production by balancing the flow. AICDs proactively delay the onset of unwanted fluids (water and gas) and additionally, reactively, restrict the flow of water and gas upon breakthrough. This paper presents AICD installations in multiple horizontal wells of the Singue oil field development in Ecuador. The fluidic diode AICDs are fluid dependent and will react to the viscosity of the downhole fluid creating an additional pressure differential to restrict the production of unwanted fluids. The paper presents the introduction of this technology into the first horizontal wells of the Singue field. The wells are in a sandstone reservoir with an underlying aquifer and demonstrate increasing water cut over time. The completion designs and optimization of these wells were based on the production objectives and calibrated with field production data. Best practices of simulation modelling for both design phase and post-match results are presented. Production data of WC% reduction and Oil production continuity over time demonstrate the value of the AICD completions. Post-match simulation modelling is used for the analysis of the technology at different conditions over the production life of the wells. Historical production data is used to build numerical models for comparison and evaluation purposes. It is observed from these results and analysis, that installing AICDs on the horizontal wells delays the increase rate of water cut curve which results in higher recovery over time and longer wells longevity. Operational considerations including ESP pump parameters for completion design and future well management are discussed. Well clean-up and fluid conditioning recommendations are included as part of the best practices and lessons learned. The AICD technology, design methodology and production performance evaluation for the AICD completions were applied for the first time in this new field development. The analysis covers the complete cycle from reservoir modelling, completion design, post-drilling match, calibration and production performance analysis over time for evaluation of the technology.

Abstract As a result of Reservoir Monitoring Plan, a Non-uniform Saturation has been identified in the Southern part of the reservoir. High gas saturation, coming from gas injection in underlying units, was observed within the first 10 to 30 Ft. TVD of top-most section of the reservoir. Therefore, in order to mitigate the potential problems that this gas production can generate on the well production performance which could shorten the well productive life, a flow control strategy was implemented in the lower completion designs of six new drilled wells. Following the best practices as per ADNOC Standard Operating Procedure and after performing an opportunities screening, inflow control device ‘ICD’ was found as the technology to be used on these cases. A steady state modelling was performed for identifying the most suitable ICD design for the new wells drilled during 2021-2022. In order to consider the changes on the reservoir fluid conditions over time along the wellbore, a sensitivity analysis was conducted during the steady state modelling. Likewise, the final ICD design took into account that production profile should be adhered to reservoir management guidelines. The result of wellbore simulations provided insights about the optimum solution for the well completion. This called for both adequate well positioning along the reservoir section and the utilization of ICD technologies as a means for GOR control, making feasible a more efficient practice for well and reservoir management. A successful trial of installing the first Autonomous or self-regulating ICDs have been completed and deployed as an innovation in the field to optimize and balance downhole influx profile, which will allow to minimize the impact of the gas breakthrough GBT while maintaining wells productivity. Overdesigned ICDs was avoided since they not just increase the cost of well completion, but also will impact the well performance negatively. Most of wells with segmented completion with Autonomous Inflow control Device AICD pertaining to PAD drilling project, will be commissioning in Q2 2023. One out of the six wells is currently flowing and an evaluation program and results will be further discussed in this publication.

Abstract Wassana oil field is located in the Gulf of Thailand with shallow water depth at approximately 60m. A major challenge is excessive water production which reduces reserves recovery and increases costs associated with produced water handling. The target reservoir is ~20ft thick with active aquifer support. The low oil/ water mobility ratio due to high oil viscosity (≥ 30cp) risks early water coning and high watercuts. All horizontal wells drilled in the Wassana field during the initial development and the first infill campaign were completed as non-ICD openhole standalone screen. For the second infill campaign, the non-ICD simulation showed water breakthrough occurring at the start of production. Once breakthrough occurs, water production rapidly dominates production prompting premature shut-in of production, leaving much unrecovered oil behind. To overcome this problem, Autonomous Inflow Control Devices (AICDs) were introduced to control the production influx profile across the entire horizontal section to delay water coning and to significantly choke back water production when it occurs. With intensive pre-drilled AICD modeling using 3D dynamic time lapse simulation, two wells in the second infill campaign were subsequently chosen to be completed with a configuration of zonal AICDs isolated by swell packers. This design enables isolation across horizontal reservoir section with high water production in tandem with compartmentalization across the contrasting permeability region. Once water breakthrough occurs, the unique autonomous ability of the cyclonic AICD is triggered by exploiting the physics of rotational flow of the vortex-inducing pressure drop principle through a restrictive funnel-type flow-path in a tool with no moving parts. The low viscosity of both water and gas phase promotes higher rotational velocity inducing higher pressure drop or back-pressure of inflow vortex breakdown towards the inlet into the tubing flow, thus helping to further reduce the influx contribution of the high water producing sections. Essentially, the higher watercut zones flowing through the device is restricted more rigorously compared to the oil-prone zones. Both wells were successfully drilled and completed with AICDs in February 2019. Based on actual and early-production history-matched performance, these 2 pilot AICD wells are projecting an improved cumulative oil production gain of up to +7% over 5 years of production. The reduction or delay of water production can benefit the field both in enhancing oil recovery and water handling cost saving.

Autonomous Inflow Control Device (AICD) completion was successfully designed and applied in a horizontal well drilled in a deep reservoir in an extra heavy oil field located in South America where the average total depth of the targeted reservoir is around ten thousands feet and the in-situ viscosity is 600 cps while API Gravity is ranged between 8.5–9.5. Due to geological and petro-physical features in this area which turns into permeability variations and thick transition zone across the reservoir, a horizontal well of 2500 feet length was drilled and completed with a standalone screen along with Autonomous Inflow Control Device (AICD) to avoid sand production and delay water production. The initial design for the AICD considered the variation of permeability, rock quality, pressure differential across the horizontal length including the operational factors. Accordingly, multiple scenarios using reservoir simulation built-in model (Petrel-RE) and Netool for ICD selection, design and placement where the geological properties of the model were updated based on the run NMR and Caliper logs while geo-steering the well. Also, a fine grid sector model was generated to assess optimum well completion design. The AICD completion was successfully deployed and resulted in extending the well life by delaying water production and it is expected to get its ultimate benefit whenever starting the implementation of a water flood project near that producer well.

This paper is a continuation of the work in reference [1]. In recent decades, horizontal drilling for producing wells became a widely known and used technology, this is due to the fact they improve the overall recovery, efficiency of production, drainage of the reservoir, as well as delay unwanted fluids (e.g. gas & water). However, this solution was not perfect, as due to highly fractured and heterogeneous reservoirs, premature water and gas production can and will take place, causing remaining oil to be bypassed, and hence, reducing the reservoir's recovery and eventually the profitability [2]. In south Sultanate of Oman, many fields have been developed with the use of the horizontal well technology, but together with its advantages, the geological nature of the formations and the physical properties of the produced fluids, have introduced important challenges regarding production optimization. One of the assets in question comprises of naturally fractured carbonate reservoirs drained through long horizontal open-hole completions. It has been developed with water flood and GOGD system. The main production optimization challenge faced for that asset is the fracture-dominated inflow, which leads to either high water or gas production. On the other hand, another asset where the trial took place comprises of shallow sandstone reservoirs of heavy oil, with strong bottom aquifers and high level of reservoir heterogeneities; fractures, faults and high permeability streaks are characteristic of these reservoirs. A horizontal well usually has a much higher capacity–as compared to a vertical well–for producing fluids at the same drawdown, hence, when talking on critical rates that do not disturb the oil-water-contact, horizontal wells will definitely have a higher critical rate than those of vertical wells, but even so, the capacity of moving fluids are bigger, causing faster movement of bottom water towards the horizontal well regardless [3]. Another field of the trial fields had produced heavy oil, with viscosities in the range of 600 cP to 1000 cP. The permeability is variable and in the range of 100mD to 10D. This makes the mobility ratio very favorable to water production. Some wells have started production with less than 10 % WC, but a sudden increase of WC has been observed up to above 90 %. Most of the wells have been completed with inflatable packers (EZIPs), creating 2 to 3 segments at the horizontal reservoir section. The AICD technology is suitable for being applied in this case of very low oil mobility and segments at the sand-face. The last trial field comprises of multi-stacked reservoirs, isolated by shale barriers, with production potential of oil from two main layers. The oil is light, ~ 42 API and 0.9 cp viscosity. Around 13 wells are closed-in due to various reasons including high water cut and low productivity. This field is producing since 1998 from 9 stacked reservoir zones-commingled, which provides a challenge to production allocation. Performing Production Logging Tests–PLTs-have not helped to improve the allocation issues. Water shut off is challenging when it comes to the point of deciding the zone required to be closed. Mechanical water shut off is an option to choke back the non-allocated water zones and allow more oil production. Although this field does not include horizontal wells, the total perforated length of the proposed well and the hydraulic natural isolation between the producing zones makes the application of the technology attractive for this field. An interventionless/wireless technology, which promotes uniform production along the entire length of a horizontal well, delaying the production of unwanted fluids (water or gas) from high productivity zones along the well path and promoting increased oil production from other compartments of the formation, would definitively represent a key aspect of the production optimization for these Petroleum Development Oman fields.

Abstract The Acordionero field is located in the Middle Magdalena basin of Colombia and produces from 2 main multilayered formations. Water injection is utilized to maintain reservoir pressures and improve recovery factors. API gravities vary between 14° and 24°. C&P vertical wells are drilled to access oil from several producing intervals. This inherently creates a challenging production environment, as injection water and/or formation gas can unpredictably breakthrough in any of the formation layers, impacting well performance and leading to well shut-ins and expensive workovers to re-establish production. Even though Inflow Control Devices (ICDs) and Autonomous Inflow Control Devices (AICDs) have been successfully deployed to control unwanted fluids in oil producer wells, its application in vertical wells have been limited. The challenging environment and the inability to identify the problematic intervals led to the selection of the AICD-Valve due to its ability to autonomously shut-off gas/water based on the fluid properties of each zone. This technology is sensitive to both fluid viscosity and density and can autonomously choke zones that have higher gas/water concentrations. A detailed study was conducted, including well simulations and analysis of production data, which determined the benefits of the technology, particularly to control gas breakthrough. A total of 6 wells have been retrofitted to date. Overall results have been positive with the AICD-Valves successfully restricting flow from intervals with unwanted fluids and applying a more effective drawdown to oil-rich zones. Gas production have been reduced to more than 50% in all wells and in some cases over 90%. ESPs have shown a more stable behavior in comparison to pre-AICD-Valve installations, reducing gas locking events, leading to less common failures and well interventions.

Freezes have had and will continue to have a significant impact on the conduct of the Florida citrus industry. A viable industry and all its associated suppliers and services depend very heavily on the consistent and continued production of fruit in the field. The main reason that fruit production has been inconsistent is the fruit and tree losses associated with damaging freezes. This paper will discuss a brief history of the freezes, the economics of several options of rehabilitating freeze-damaged trees, and cultural practices, etc. in the field which can minimize freeze losses. Vineyards are found on six of seven continents, producing a crop of high economic value with much historic and cultural significance. Because of the wide range of conditions under which grapes are grown, management approaches are highly varied and must be adapted to local climatic constraints. Research has been conducted in the traditionally prominent grape growing regions of Europe, Australia, and the western USA, but far less information is available to guide production under more extreme growing conditions. The overarching goal of this project was to improve understanding of vineyard water management related to the critical inter-row zone. Experiments were conducted in moist temperate (North Carolina, USA) and arid (Negev, Israel) regions in order to address inter-row water use under high and low water availability conditions. Specific objectives were to: i) calibrate and verify a modeling technique to identify components of evapotranspiration (ET) in temperate and semiarid vineyard systems, ii) evaluate and refine strategies for excess water removal in vineyards for moist temperate regions of the Southeastern USA, and iii) evaluate and refine strategies for water conservation in vineyards for semi-arid regions of Israel. Several new measurement and modeling techniques were adapted and assessed in order to partition ET between favorable transpiration by the grapes and potentially detrimental water use within the vineyard inter-row. A micro Bowen ratio measurement system was developed to quantify ET from inter-rows. The approach was successful at the NC site, providing strong correlation with standard measurement approaches and adding capability for continuous, non-destructive measurement within a relatively small footprint. The environmental conditions in the Negev site were found to limit the applicability of the technique. Technical issues are yet to be solved to make this technique sufficiently robust. The HYDRUS 2D/3D modeling package was also adapted using data obtained in a series of intense field campaigns at the Negev site. The adapted model was able to account for spatial variation in surface boundary conditions, created by diurnal canopy shading, in order to accurately calculate the contribution of interrow evaporation (E) as a component of system ET. Experiments evaluated common practices in the southeastern USA: inter-row cover crops purported to reduce water availability and thereby favorably reduce grapevine vegetative growth; and southern Israel: drip irrigation applied to produce a high value crop with maximum water use efficiency. Results from the NC site indicated that water use by the cover crop contributed a significant portion of vineyard ET (up to 93% in May), but that with ample rainfall typical to the region, cover crop water use did little to limit water availability for the grape vines. A potential consequence, however, was elevated below canopy humidity owing to the increased inter-row evapotranspiration associated with the cover crops. This creates increased potential for fungal disease occurrence, which is a common problem in the region. Analysis from the Negev site reveals that, on average, E accounts for about10% of the total vineyard ET in an isolated dripirrigated vineyard. The proportion of ET contributed by E increased from May until just before harvest in July, which could be explained primarily by changes in weather conditions. While non-productive water loss as E is relatively small, experiments indicate that further improvements in irrigation efficiency may be possible by considering diurnal shading effects on below canopy potential ET. Overall, research provided both scientific and practical outcomes including new measurement and modeling techniques, and new insights for humid and arid vineyard systems. Research techniques developed through the project will be useful for other agricultural systems, and the successful synergistic cooperation amongst the research team offers opportunity for future collaboration.
