The discovery, with HST imaging, of proto–globular cluster candidates in NGC 1275 (Holtzman et al. 1992) was regarded by many as a major success of the merger model for globular cluster formation (e.g. Ashman & Zepf 1992) and has been cited in support of the idea that elliptical galaxies form from the merger of two or more spiral galaxies. A prediction of the Ashman & Zepf model was that newly-formed clusters should be observable in currently or recently merging systems. The NGC 1275 clusters constitute an important test of globular cluster formation models. NGC 1275 is the peculiar cD galaxy at the center of the Perseus cluster. It shows evidence for a merger history and may indeed be undergoing a merger at present. It also has one of the largest known cooling flows.

We review the observed properties of globular cluster systems and their implications for models of galaxy formation. Observations show that globular clusters form in gas-rich mergers, and that bimodal metallicity distributions are common in the globular cluster systems of ellipticals, with the metal-poor population more extended than the metal-rich one. These are three of the four predictions of the simple merger model of Ashman & Zepf (1992). The fourth prediction concerns the properties of the globular cluster systems of spirals, and is still to be tested by observation. Adopting Occam's razor, the confirmation of the fundamental predictions of the merger model from both young and old globular cluster systems is strong evidence that typical elliptical galaxies formed from the mergers of spiral galaxies. However, the simplifying assumptions of the Ashman-Zepf merger model limit its applicability to certain complex situations such as the formation of cD galaxies. We conclude this review by introducing new observational and theoretical programs that will further the understanding of the physical mechanisms of globular cluster and galaxy formation.

Notre travail concernant Disney s’inscrit dans le champ de la musique de film, et même si le studio a fait l’objet de nombreuses recherches tant sur des questions esthétiques que culturelles, il reste intéressant à étudier, car il peut ainsi devenir l’objet de recherche, non sur l’originalité d’un corpus, mais sur un déplacement de la méthode, nous permettant d’interroger l’idéologie à l’œuvre. Notre thèse concentre son attention sur La Petite Sirène (1989), La Belle et la Bête (1991) et Aladdin (1992) où il nous semble que, en recourant à la recomposition de la musique de certaines séquences des films, nous puissions faire jouer à la part de virtualité du texte filmique un rôle dans cette entreprise critique : retrouver la voix des héroïnes Ariel, Belle et Jasmine. Si un geste de recomposition musicale peut nous aider à penser ce rapport au personnage, c’est parce que nous pensons que la musique peut faire entendre la virtualité d’un film (et plus précisément de ses personnages), et devenir par cela un geste d’analyse critique de son idéologie. La recomposition musicale met en acte les allers-retours indispensables à la compréhension des séquences que nous travaillerons : elle redonne corps aux espaces de résonance du film et compose les affleurements d’une promesse initiale proposée par le film vis-à-vis de son héroïne. Ces allers-retours nous permettent de retrouver l’importance des numéros musicaux. En prolongeant notre analyse par le prisme de l’intermédialité, nous réfléchissons à la porosité avec la scène de Broadway (ou plus précisément ici avec le off-Broadway) qui permettent des doubles lectures issues des numéros musicaux
From aesthetics to cultural studies, Disney has been the subject of many studies. Thanks to this prolific research, it is possible de study it by another methodological angle to understand the ideology of and within the movies. Within the academic field of film music, our thesis will draw its attention on The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991) and Aladdin (1992). It seems that, thanks to an alternative version of the original score that we would compose, we may bring the potentiality inscribed in the movie to be a part of our critical study: find the heroines’ voice Ariel, Belle and Jasmine. We think that this method will enable us to take account of the character’s consistency for the music can be a way to hear the potentiality of a movie (and specifically here, the characters), so it will be an opportunity to discuss Disney ideology. The musical recomposition enact the back and forth inside the different moments of the movie to help us understand what is at stake: it enlightens the resonances between the sequences and compose the surfacing promise initially build-up by the movie towards the heroine. It also helps us thinking about the movie’s interactions while getting to the surface the aforementioned promise the movie was trying to stop from actualising. By extending our analysis through the prism of intermediality, we consider the porosity of theses musical numbers with the Broadway stage (and more accurately the off-Broadway) whose enable us to do dual readings of the movie. All the music in its connexion to the rest of the audio-visual complex enable us to think about the power relations which occurs in the movie

In 1943, Ashkin and Teller (AT) proposed a model to describe the behavior of a system composed by four components that interact with each other. However the problem has not been solved analytically for all parameters due to the complexity of the model. Only thirty years later Fan (1972) proposed a change in order to analyze the system. He made an analogy with the Ising model and described the interactions between the components in terms of spins, leading to a simple matching with the Ising and Potts q = 4 models and, enabling therefore a clearer comprehension of the model and allowing the implementation of various techniques to investigate the behavior of the system with the temperature. In 2001 Wang and Landau developed a Monte Carlo algorithm that estimates directly the density of states and can be applied in the study of phase transitions and the thermodynamic properties. This algorithm is based on a random walk in the space of energies that leads to an estimate for the density of states. During the simulations an energy histogram monitors the evolution of the density of states: whenever the flatness criterion is satisfied, we obtain a finer level of the density of states. In this work we perform a study of the Ashkin-Teller model using the Wang-Landau algorithm, determining the behavior of the magnetization and the specific heat and estimating the critical exponents , and and the critical temperature through the finite-size theory for different values of the model parameters.
Em 1943, Ashkin e Teller (AT) propuseram um modelo para descrever o comportamento de um sistema composto por quatro componentes que interagem entre si. Todavia o problema não foi resolvido analiticamente para todos parâmetros do sistema devido à complexidade de modelo. Somente trinta anos após a publicação do trabalho Fan (1972) propôs uma mudança na forma de analisar o sistema. Ele fez uma analogia com o modelo de Ising e escreveu as interações entre as componentes em termos de spins, o que levou a uma fácil correspondência com os modelos de Ising e Potts q = 4 e, de certa forma, tornou mais clara a compressão do modelo e possibilitou a aplicação de várias técnicas para se obter o comportamento do sistema com a temperatura. Haltichellini tem distribuição mundial e é composto por 29 gêneros e 376 espécies. a maioria de seus gêneros apresneta problemas básicos de definição e delimitação, o que tem gerado instabilidade na classificação de suas espécies e dificuldades de identificação. Neste estudo é apresentado pela primeira vez uma análise cladística da tribo e baseada em uma amostra representativa da fauna mundial, que buscou avaliar os gêneros e propor uma classificação genérica de acordo com as relações cladísticas entre suas espécies. Foi avaliada a monofilia de 24 dos 29 gêneros válidos, com base em 97 caracteres morfológicos, sendo 54 inéditos. Os resultados obtidos indicam que: Belaspidia é monofilético e externo à Haltichellini; dos 14 gêneros estudados com mais de uma espécie, sete foram indicados como monofiléticos (Aphasganophora, Aspirrhina, Euchalcis, Neochalcis, Tainaniella, Tanycoryphus e Uga); Allochalcis foi indicado como parafilético; e 6 foram indicados como polifiléticos (Antrocephalus, Haltichella, Hockeria, Kriechbaumerella, Oxycoryphe e Rhynchochalcis). Com base nessas relações, foi constatada a necessidade dos seguintes ajustes nomenclaturais: proposição de um gênero novo; proposição de dez sinonímias genéricas; duas revisões de status genérico; 41combinações novas; e revalidação de outras 5. Vinte e um gêneros são redefinidos. São apresentadas descrição e chave de identificação para os gêneros estudados, e ilustrações para os caracteres analisados.

Анотація:
Background: India has the world’s largest load of cervical malignancy. A lot of it can be attributed to lack of cervical cancer screening awareness among the general population. The Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) are grass root workers who have good reach in the remote areas, where health care facilities are lacking. Training these ASHAs may increasethe general awareness about cervical cancer screening. Methods: We organized a training programme of 250 ASHA workers in a tertiary care hospital with aim of improving their knowledge and attitude about cervical cancer screening which will eventually improve their practise of training women in general population. It comprised of 5 lectures in language they understand, slogans, posters, question answer session etc. A test comprising of 17 questions was conducted before and after session to check their knowledge and attitude. Results: There was an overall improvement of 25% in knowledge of the ASHAs i.e. 38% answers were correct in pre-test and 63% were correct in post-test. Questions were pertaining to symptomatology, risk factors, screening methods, their utility and prerequisites of performing the screening tests, when and how often to repeat. Improvement was seen in all the areas. There was improvement in attitude too and most of them wanted themselves (98%), their relatives (100%) and the woman within their area (98%) to be screened for cancer cervix. Conclusion: It was a small initiative and successful result was obtained after the training session of ASHAs. The impact on general population needs further evaluation.
