Evidências apontam para o declínio nas populações de anfíbios em diversas regiões do globo, e o Brasil tem um papel importante na conservação desse táxon, já que é o país que possui a maior diversidade do grupo. A Mata Atlântica é o ecossistema que abriga a maior parcela da fauna de anfíbios e o maior número de espécies endêmicas do país. No entanto, também é o habitat de quase todas as espécies de anuros ameaçados de extinção. A porção setentrional do bioma é conhecida como Sub-Região Biogeográfica (SBR) Pernambuco, e reúne os fragmentos florestais situados ao norte do Rio São Francisco, excetuando-se os brejos de altitudes. Atualmente sabe-se que essa região abrange uma fauna bastante específica e uma diversidade genética única, porém apenas 1% de seus remanescentes está protegido sob a forma de unidades de conservação. Ações conservacionistas são necessárias imediatamente, todavia a escassez de informação é um entrave para elaboração de planos de ação na região. Nesse contexto, no primeiro capítulo, foi realizada uma abordagem macroecológica para a conservação de anuros endêmicos e ameaçados na Mata Atlântica Setentrional. Assim, foram registradas dez espécies endêmicas, e uma ameaçada de extinção. Os resultados indicam que os fragmentos localizados ao norte do bioma da Mata Atlântica no Estado de Alagoas e na porção sul no Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil, são de extrema importância para manutenção da biodiversidade, mesmo diante das mudanças climáticas. No segundo capítulo, é apresentada a descrição da reprodução da única espécie ameaçada de extinção da SBR Pernambuco, Agalychnis granulosa.
