Pour répondre à cette question, l’article analyse un partenariat dans le domaine du vieillissement illustrant le travail d’élaboration de compromis au regard du degré d’autonomie que les principaux acteurs se sont offert dans ce jeu relationnel.

Ce travail analyse les formes de compromis et d’arrangements proposées par les managers du privé gérant des piscines publiques. Les épreuves que génère le changement de gestion conduisent au début à une stratégie d’exclusion des agents les plus récalcitrants. Ensuite, les managers s’attachent à « frayer » le compromis par la recherche d’un bien commun, le « service public marchand », rapprochant le monde marchand du secteur privé avec le monde civique du service public. L’intérêt commun visant à la satisfaction des usagers, une politique de développement d’un management de proximité autorise un métissage des valeurs avec le monde domestique.

Il considère la diversité des comportements des prêtres et la façon dont certains transigent avec la loi religieuse, en réalisant des compromis qui réduisent les tensions des couples et préservent leur pratique religieuse. Il analyse également les subterfuges des fidèles pour déjouer la loi et la vigilance des confesseurs, montrant que le permis et le défendu ne sont pas séparés par une division claire, mais qu’il y a place pour les compromis entre le clergé et les fidèles.

Les gouvernements légifèrent afin de favoriser les partenariats éducatifs à caractère culturel. Quel sens les textes officiels et les acteurs donnent-ils à ces partenariats ? Nous avons analysé le contenu des textes officiels québécois et d’entretiens semi-dirigés effectués avec douze acteurs (n = 12) sous l’angle des justifications présentées. Un pourcentage de 30,9 % des textes officiels et un de 28,4 % du discours des acteurs justifient ces partenariats au nom des activités d’exploration de réseaux et d’établissement de projets. Néanmoins, comme d’autres justifications pertinentes sont également évoquées, les partenariats éducatifs à caractère culturel découlent d’un compromis entre des justifications multiples.

Dans ce texte, on entend montrer que pour comprendre les orientations des filles, il est plus utile de considérer l’utilisation qu’elles feront de leur formation dans la vie sociale que d’invoquer stéréotypes et mentalités. Après une analyse de la manière dont se «fabrique» dans la classe leur valeur scolaire, non sans incidences en termes d’image de soi, on rappelle les difficultés qu’elles rencontrent au moment de l’insertion professionnelle ; en fait, ces dernières s’avèrent liées davantage au statut matrimonial qu’à la formation ou au sexe proprement dit. C’est donc plutôt le fonctionnement actuel de la famille, structuré par des rôles sociaux encore nettement différenciés, et étroitement articulé avec toute l’organisation de la vie sociale et professionnelle, qui apparaît au cœur de ces choix de compromis, somme toute raisonnables, auxquels sont acculées les jeunes filles.

Cet article se propose d’analyser un cas d’échec stratégique, 1001libraires.com, en s’appuyant sur les travaux consacrés aux stratégies collectives. Si le projet réunissait initialement un ensemble de conditions économiques favorable à son succès, il n’a fonctionné qu’une année révélant les difficultés de management de l’action collective dans la profession. Les entretiens conduits auprès d’acteurs clés du portail, ont montré que les objectifs individuels n’ont pas été dès le départ, suffisamment convergents pour rendre le projet viable et que cette incompatibilité originelle a généré des choix stratégiques de compromis qui n’étaient en adéquation ni avec les besoins du marché ni avec les ressources financières mobilisées.

Dans le contexte d’une analyse de la géographie dans les années 1970, ce texte aborde le domaine de l’aménagement du territoire et en particulier la problématique de l’aménagement régional au Québec. Cette problématique permet de dégager les tendances qui se confrontent dans les années 1970 au sujet de la structuration du territoire québécois. Le texte analyse certains projets gouvernementaux et les réactions qu’ils ont suscitées. Il cherche à montrer que cette analyse permet de dégager les bases des politiques qui ont été appliquées par la suite et qui reflètent les compromis institutionnels donnant lieu à une approche originale au Québec, une approche hybride basée sur la concertation, à laquelle les géographes et la géographie ont contribué.

La flore adventice contribue à la fourniture de services écosystémiques, négatifs s’ils sont liés à une nuisibilité pour la culture (disservices), ou positifs via la fourniture de ressources trophiques (ressources florales, graines) favorisant des pollinisateurs et auxilaires de cultures. Dans cette thèse, nous avons analysé comment les stratégies agricoles (combinaisons logiques de successions de cultures et de pratiques agricoles associées) mises en place par les agriculteurs à l’échelle d’un petit territoire, modulent la contribution des adventices à la fourniture de (dis)services. Nous avons également considéré la contribution relative des flores de plein champ et d’interface (zone étroite entre le 1e rang de culture et la bordure pérenne) à ces services. A l’échelle annuelle, nous mettons en évidence que le type de culture affecte fortement la fourniture de services, en déterminant non seulement la composition floristique, mais aussi la croissance des individus et leur probabilité d’atteindre les stades de floraison et de grenaison. Les services sont ainsi plus élevés et plus stables dans les cultures les moins compétitives. Par ailleurs, et malgré la faible superficie qu’elles occupent, les interfaces jouent un rôle important dans la fourniture de services à l’échelle de la parcelle, du fait d’une abondance et d’une richesse spécifique en adventices plus grandes, mais aussi d’une contribution par plante plus importante que dans le plein champ. A l’échelle pluriannuelle, nous montrons que la stratégie agricole, et notamment la succession de cultures, module le niveau de fourniture de services. L’étude des compromis entre services révèle une corrélation positive entre services et disservices, mais nous avons cependant identifié des espèces adventices qui, dans certaines conditions (type de culture, interface ou plein champ), fournissent les meilleurs bouquets de services. Un travail de simulation de l’effet de différents assolements, à l’échelle du petit territoire étudié, suggère que la coexistence d’un grand nombre de stratégies agricoles en proportion équitable est le scénario le plus favorable pour obtenir les meilleurs compromis. Les scénarios impliquant une réduction de la taille des parcelles (conduisant à une part d’interfaces plus importante) indiquent quant à eux une augmentation conjointe des services et disservices mais une plus grande stabilité temporelle de la fourniture de services. Ces résultats suggèrent qu’une diversification des cultures, dans l’espace et le temps, permet d’augmenter la contribution des adventices à la fourniture de services écosystémiques sans engendrer de disservices majeursWeeds contribute to the provision of various ecosystem services, negative when linked to their harmfulness (disservices) and positive due to the provision of trophic resources (floral resources, seeds) to pollinators and pest natural enemies (services). In this PhD thesis, we analysed how crop management strategies (coherent crop sequences and associated farming practices) implemented by farmers within a small agricultural landscape modulate the weed contribution to (dis)services provision. We also assessed the relative contribution of field cores and field edges (narrow area between the 1st row of the crop and the boundary) to these services. At the annual scale, we show that crop type highly impacts the (dis)services provision, through an effect on the composition of the weed assemblages, but also on the growth rate of individual weed plants and their probability to reach the flowering and seeding stages. Services are thereby higher and more stable within year in the less competitive crops. Similarly, and despite the small area they cover, field edges play a major role in the provision of services at the field scale because they harbour higher weed abundance and richness with individual plants that contribute more to services than the plants located in field cores. At the pluriannual scale, crop management strategy (and notably the crop sequence), drives the level of (dis)services provision. We observe positive correlations between services and disservices, however we managed to identify weed species which provide, in specific growing conditions (crop type, location in the field), the best (dis)services bundles. By a statistical simulation method focussing on the effect of the crop management strategy assemblage at the studied small landscape scale, we show that scenarii composed of a large number of strategies in even proportions are those that deliver the best compromises. Scenarii in which field size was reduced (and which therefore increased the area of field edges in the landscape) resulted in the increase of both services and disservices provision but a higher temporal stability in the provision of services. These results suggest that crop diversification, in space and time, could be an interesting solution to increase weed contribution to ecosystem services provision, without producing too much disservices

Dans le contexte actuel, il est nécessaire de concevoir des algorithmes capables de traiter des données volumineuses en un minimum de temps de calcul. Par exemple, la programmation dynamique appliquée au problème de détection de ruptures ne permet pas de traiter rapidement des données ayant une taille d'échantillon supérieure à $10^{6}$. Les algorithmes itératifs fournissent une famille ordonnée d'estimateurs indexée par le nombre d'itérations. Dans cette thèse, nous avons étudié statistiquement cette famille d'estimateurs afin de sélectionner un estimateur ayant de bonnes performances statistiques et peu coûteux en temps de calcul. Pour cela, nous avons suivi l'approche utilisant les règles d'arrêt pour proposer un tel estimateur dans le cadre du problème de détection de ruptures dans la distribution et le problème de régression linéaire. Il est d'usage de faire un grand nombre d'itérations pour calculer un estimateur usuel. Une règle d'arrêt est l'itération à laquelle nous stoppons l'algorithme afin de limiter le phénomène de surapprentissage dont souffre ces estimateurs usuels. En stoppant l'algorithme plus tôt, les règles d'arrêt permettent aussi d'économiser du temps de calcul. Lorsque le budget de temps est limité, il se peut que nous n'ayons pas le temps d'itérer jusqu'à la règle d'arrêt. Dans ce contexte, nous avons étudié le choix optimal du nombre d'itérations et de la taille d'échantillon pour atteindre une précision statistique optimale. For instance, the dynamic programming applied to the change-point detection problem in the distribution can not treat quickly data with a sample size greater than $10^{6}$. The iterative algorithms provide an ordered family of estimators indexed by the number of iterations. In this thesis, we have studied statistically this family of estimators in oder to select one of them with good statistics performance and a low computation cost. To this end, we have followed the approach using the stopping rules to suggest an estimator within the framework of the change-point detection problem in the distribution and the linear regression problem. We use to do a lot of iterations to compute an usual estimator. A stopping rule is the iteration to which we stop the algorithm in oder to limit overfitting whose some usual estimators suffer from. By stopping the algorithm earlier, the stopping rules enable also to save computation time. Under time constraint, we may have no time to iterate until the stopping rule. In this context, we have studied the optimal choice of the number of iterations and the sample size to reach an optimal accuracy. Simulations highlight the trade-off between the number of iterations and the sample size in order to reach an optimal accuracy under time constraint

Le web attire aussi des malfaiteurs, qui le considèrent comme un moyen pour gagner de l'argent en exploitant les services et la propriété d'autrui. Cette thèse propose une étude des sites web compromis et malicieux sous plusieurs axes d'analyse. Même si les attaques web peuvent être de nature très compliquées, on peut quasiment toujours identifier quatre acteurs principaux dans chaque cas. Ceux sont les attaquants, les sites vulnérables hébergés par des fournisseurs d'hébergement, les utilisateurs (souvent victimes des attaques), et les sociétés de sécurité qui parcourent Internet à la recherche de sites web compromis à être bloqués. Dans cette thèse, nous analysons premièrement les attaques web du point de vue des hébergeurs, en montrant que, même si des outils gratuits permettent de détecter des signes simples de compromission, la majorité des hébergeurs échouent dans cette épreuve. Unfortunately, however, the web also attracts miscreants who see it as a means of making money by abusing services and other people's property. In this dissertation, we perform a multidimensional analysis of attacks involving malicious or compromised websites, by observing that, while web attacks can be very complex in nature, they generally involve four main actors. These are the attackers, the vulnerable websites hosted on the premises of hosting providers, the web users who end up being victims of attacks, and the security companies who scan the Internet trying to block malicious or compromised websites. In particular, we first analyze web attacks from a hosting provider's point of view, showing that, while simple and free security measures should allow to detect simple signs of compromise on customers' websites, most hosting providers fail to do so. Second, we switch our point of view on the attackers, by studying their modus operandi and their goals in a distributed experiment involving the collection of attacks performed against hundreds of vulnerable web sites. Third, we observe the behavior of victims of web attacks, based on the analysis of their browsing habits. This allows us to understand if it would be feasible to build risk profiles for web users, similarly to what insurance companies do. Finally, we adopt the point of view of security companies and focus on finding an efficient solution to detecting web attacks that spread on compromised websites, and infect thousands of web users every day

Dans cette thèse, le compromis entre la consommation d'énergie et le délai dans les réseaux de capteurs sans fil est étudié en exploitant efficacement les liens non fiables. Nous proposons une métrique de l'efficacité énergétique et une métrique de délai moyenne qui sont combinés avec le modèle de lien radio à erreur. En utilisant ces deux métriques et un modèle réaliste de lien radio, nous déduisons la limite inférieure et le front de Pareto du compromis Energie-Délai sont calculés pour trois types de systèmes de communication: la communication multi-saut traditionnelle, la communication opportuniste et la communication coopérative MIMO (CMIMO) dans trois différents canaux: le canal a bruit additif blanc Gaussien, le canal a évanouissements rapides de Rayleigh et le canal a évanouissement de Rayleigh par blocs. Les expressions de ces limites faibles sont obtenues et vérifiées par des simulations bidimensionnelles de réseaux de capteurs distribués aléatoirement. Sur la base de l'expression de la borne inférieure du compromis Energie-Délai, un cadre multi-couche est fourni pour optimiser les paramètres des couches physique, MAC et routage sous contrainte de délai. Les résultats obtenus montrent que pour parvenir à une meilleure performance Energie-Délai, les mécanismes de communication suivants devraient être adoptés selon le type de canal : les communications multi-saut traditionnelles sont les plus performantes pour le canal à bruit additif blanc Gaussien, alors que les communications opportunistes le sont pour les canaux à évanouissements de Rayleigh par blocs et enfin le CMIMO pour les canaux à évanouissements rapides de Rayleigh.

La thèse explore le rôle que joue l’entreprise dans la régulation des tensions que produit le capitalisme. Sous les effets déstabilisateurs de la remise en cause des régulations issues du compromis fordiste et de l’émergence de la question environnementale, on l’observe émerger comme acteur politique participant à la construction de nouvelles formes de régulation. Pour interroger ce processus, nous mobilisons la perspective institutionnaliste et pragmatique de John R. Commons. Après une relecture du concept de compromis permettant de saisir ces régulations et le rôle qu’y joue l’entreprise, la thèse s’appuie sur une enquête de terrain portant sur un projet de transition énergétique en cours en Hauts-de-France : la troisième révolution industrielle (TRI). Se basant sur le modèle proposé par Jeremy Rifkin dans son ouvrage éponyme, ce processus est lancé conjointement par le conseil régional et la chambre de commerce et d’industrie de région en 2012. Reposant principalement sur des entretiens semi-directifs (n=55) et une analyse de la littérature grise menée à l’aide du logiciel Prospéro, l’enquête examine d’abord la stratégie de réponse à la question environnementale formulée par les acteurs de la TRI. Elle repose en particulier sur un registre de justification qualifié de « technico-économique » en ce qu’il fait de la question environnementale un champ d’opportunités économiques pour les entreprises, notamment via le développement d’innovations technologiques. L’enquête montre ensuite comment, au fil du processus de construction et de structuration de ce compromis, l’entreprise en devient progressivement l’acteur politique dominant. La thèse entend ainsi contribuer à une réflexion sur l’entreprise comme institution politique du capitalismeThis thesis investigates the role played by businesses in regulating the tensions that capitalism produces. With the Fordist compromise and its regulations on the wane and the environmental issue on the rise, and the destabilising effects this causes, we see businesses emerge as political actors that help shape new forms of regulation. To analyse this process, we draw on John R. Commons’ institutional and pragmatic approach. As a first step, the thesis undertakes a reinterpretation of the concept of compromise, enabling us to apprehend these regulations and the role played in them by businesses. Subsequently, the thesis focuses on a field survey on an ongoing energy transition project in Hauts-de-France: the “third industrial revolution” (TIR), a project based upon the model outlined by Jeremy Rifkin in his eponym publication. The regional council and the chamber of commerce jointly launched this process in 2012. The survey, mostly based on semi-structured interviews (n=55) and on a review of grey literature conducted with the software Prospéro, first examines the strategy developed by the stakeholders of the TIR to respond to the environmental issue. This strategy mainly relies on a justification that can be described as “techno-economic”, in the sense that it considers the environmental issue as offering economic opportunities to businesses, especially through developing technological innovations. This research then shows how, as this new compromise gradually takes shape, businesses are becoming the dominant political players in it. This thesis thus intends to show that businesses are a political institution of capitalism

Les changements globaux et l'évolution du contexte socio-économique renforcent les attentes vis-à-vis d'une gestion multifonctionnelle des forêts. En France, la communauté forestière s'est accordée sur la définition du double objectif de « produire plus de bois, tout en préservant mieux la biodiversité […]» (Grenelle de l'Environnement, 2007). Cet objectif s'accompagne d'une volonté de maintenir des attributs favorables à la biodiversité d'une part, et de « dynamiser » la sylviculture d'autre part. La comptabilité entre ces mesures est toutefois controversée et il est aujourd'hui nécessaire de mieux comprendre leurs effets sur les services écosystémiques, afin de pouvoir définir les conditions d'une gestion forestière multifonctionnelle et durable.L'objectif de la thèse est d'explorer de manière fine l'effet de la sylviculture sur la structure des peuplements, la production de bois et la préservation de la biodiversité. Le travail s'articule autour de deux hypothèses générales : (1) celle que les indicateurs de ces deux services répondent de manière différente à la gestion; (2) celle qu'une gamme intermédiaire d'intensités de sylviculture est favorable au compromis entre production et biodiversité. Le travail a porté sur le cas des sapinières-pessières irrégulières de montagne, qui présentent une longue tradition de gestion en futaie irrégulière et sont jugées favorables à la fourniture d'un certain nombre de services écosystémiques. Nous avons opté pour une approche par simulation s'appuyant sur le couplage d'un modèle de dynamique forestière, d'algorithmes de sylviculture et de modèles et indicateurs de production et de biodiversité. Le travail de thèse a nécessité la mise en place d'une démarche complète d'expérimentation par simulation impliquant les étapes (i) de formalisation des variables de contrôle et de réponse, (ii) de développement et d'évaluation de modèles, (iii) de définition de plans d'expérience, (iv) d'analyse de sensibilité et (v) d'analyse de la réponse des indicateurs à la gestion. Une analyse complète du modèle Samsara2 nous a permis de vérifier la cohérence des dynamiques forestières simulées et la fiabilité des prédictions. Un algorithme de sylviculture a été développé pour modéliser la gestion en futaie irrégulière de manière fine. Deux modèles de biodiversité ont été implémentés à partir de modèles issus de la littérature : un modèle de stockage et de décomposition du bois mort et un modèle de prédiction de la richesse spécifique de la strate herbacée. Une analyse de sensibilité du système nous a tout d'abord permis d'analyser l'influence des paramètres d'entrée (sylvicoles, démographiques ou état initial) sur un ensemble d'indicateurs de structure, production et biodiversité, puis d'identifier et de fixer les paramètres peu influents. Une approche par régression a ensuite permis d'établir la fonction de réponse (métamodèle) de chaque indicateur aux principaux leviers de gestion, en interaction avec la démographie et l'état initial. Nous avons ainsi observé un effet négatif de l'intensification de la gestion sur la biodiversité, bien que cet effet varie en fonction des indicateurs. Les mesures de conservation de la biodiversité peuvent toutefois servir de leviers de compensation dans certains cas, permettant ainsi de concilier les deux objectifs. Des situations de compromis entre indicateurs de production et/ou biodiversité ont été détectées, mais leur analyse fine nécessite désormais de se tourner vers les méthodes d'analyse multicritère.Ainsi, l'analyse couplée des de la réponse des indicateurs de services écosystémiques à la gestion et des scénarii de gestion situés sur la zone de compromis devrait permettre d'alimenter les échanges avec les gestionnaires forestiers et de discuter des recommandations de gestion à l'échelle de la parcelle ou du massif forestierGlobal change and the evolution of the socio-economic context reinforce the expectations for multifunctional forest management. In France, the forest community agreed on the definition of the double objective of “improving timber production while preserving biodiversity better” (Grenelle 2007). This objective goes along with a will of maintaining the natural attributes favoring biodiversity on one hand, and of increasing management intensity on the other hand. The compatibility between both objectives is however controversial and it seem nowadays necessary to better understand their effects on ecosystem services, so as to enable the definition of multifunctional and sustainable forest management. The objective of this PhD thesis is to explore the effect of silviculture on stand structure, timber production and biodiversity preservation. This works involves two main hypotheses: (1) the fact that ecosystem services indicators present different responses to silvicultural drivers, thus leading to trade-offs situations; (2) the fact that management scenarios of intermediate intensity may enable satisfactory production-biodiversity trade-offs to be reached. This work addressed the case of uneven-aged spruce-fir mountain forests, which present a long tradition of uneven-aged management (selection system) and are judged favorable to the provision of several ecosystem services. We used a simulation approach coupling a forest dynamics simulation model (Samsara2), a silviculture algorithm, and ecosystem services models and indicators (for timber production and biodiversity). This however required a complete simulation experiment approach to be set up, with several steps: (i) formalization of control and response variables, (ii) model development and evaluation, (iii) experiment designs definition, (iv) sensitivity analysis, and (v) study of indicators' response to management. A complete analysis of the Samsara2 model enabled the consistency of simulated forest dynamics and the reliability of predictions to be checked. A silviculture algorithm has been developed to accurately model uneven-aged management. Two biodiversity models have been implemented from the literature: a dead wood decay model and an understory diversity model.A sensitivity analysis of the system first enabled us to assess the influence of input parameters (silviculture, demographic and initial state) on structure, timber production and biodiversity indicators, and then to identify and fix those with low influence. Then, a regression approach enabled the establishment of the response function (metamodels) of each indicator to the main silvicultural factors, in interaction with demography and initial state. This revealed the negative effect of increased management intensity on biodiversity indicators, although its effect depended on the indicator. Biodiversity conservation measures could however be used as compensation drivers in some cases, therefore enabling both objectives to be concealed. Trade-offs situations have also been detected between timber production and/or biodiversity conservation indicators, but their analysis now require specific multi-criteria analysis to be used.The combined analysis of ecosystem services response to silvicultural drivers and of management scenarios located on the trade-offs area would then supply the discussion with forest managers with new elements and enable management recommendations to be discussed at the stand or landscape scale

Dans un contexte de changement climatique global et d'évolution locale de l'usage des terres, le devenir des paysages culturels des Alpes françaises, façonnés au cours des siècles par les interactions mutuelles entre sociétés et environnement, apparaît incertain. Dans le même temps, les écosystèmes qui les constituent abritent une biodiversité riche et sont à l'origine de nombreuses ressources naturelles et fonctions écologiques dont bénéficient les populations humaines. Ces ressources et fonctions sont conceptualisées sous le terme de « services écosystémiques » et font aujourd'hui l'objet d'une attention accrue dans la gestion et la protection des ressources environnementales, au même titre que la biodiversité. L'identification des facteurs liés à leur maintien, en termes écologiques, socio-culturels et politiques, est une étape nécessaire à leur gestion durable, bien qu'encore insuffisamment explorée. Mon projet de thèse visait à accroître la compréhension des interactions positives (synergies) et négatives (antagonismes) entre services écosystémiques et biodiversité via une approche multidimensionnelle du socio-écosystème des Alpes françaises. - Le Chapitre I propose une approche biophysique quantitative et spatialisée de la multifonctionnalité des écosystèmes. Suite à une étape de modélisation, les patrons spatiaux de synergie et d'antagonisme entre services et biodiversité ont été explorés statistiquement et reliés à des enjeux de gouvernance actuels à différentes échelles. Ce travail a permis d'identifier les bouquets de services écosystémiques représentatifs des différentes conditions biogéographiques, de gestion et de d'hétérogénéité du paysage représentées dans le massif. - Cette approche est complétée dans le Chapitre II par une représentation qualitative des relations d'influence entre services écosystémiques et biodiversité, ainsi que de leurs liens avec d'autres variables écologiques et sociales. Nous avons considéré explicitement les dimensions multiples englobées par le concept de service écosystémique (leurs ‘facettes') et proposons un cadre conceptuel pour en cartographier les réseaux d'influence. Ce cadre a servi de base à l'analyse d'un processus consultatif que nous avons mené auprès d'acteurs du territoire. Les analyses ont mis en lumière leur perception globale des relations d'influence importantes au sein du socio-écosystème. - Afin de mieux comprendre les régulations sociales appliquées à la gestion environnementale, nous testons dans le Chapitre III une méthodologie d'analyse de l'efficacité environnementale d'instruments de gouvernance. Notre analyse a privilégié un nombre restreint d'instruments qui encadrent actuellement les interactions entre agriculture, tourisme et biodiversité. L'utilisation d'un ensemble d'indicateurs de performance et d'adéquation avec le cadre socio-culturel et de gouvernance a souligné l'articulation complexe des instruments entre eux et a abouti à la production d'une synthèse pour les décideurs (‘policy brief'). - Le Chapitre IV explore enfin certains enjeux conceptuels et éthiques de la recherche dans le domaine des services écosystémiques. Après une réflexion générale sur les relations entre science et société, je propose une évaluation réflexive et personnelle des projets de recherche auxquels j'ai contribué. Pour conclure, je propose une vision transversale du socio-écosystème alpin mettant en lumière les enjeux majeurs identifiés par les différentes analysesIn the context of global climate change and local land use changes, the future of the French Alps cultural landscapes, shaped through long-lasting and mutual interactions between human and their environment, appears uncertain. Simultaneously, the ecosystems constituting alpine landscapes host a rich biodiversity and provide the many natural resources and ecological functions that benefit to human societies. These resources and functions are conceptualised as “ecosystem services” and currently attract an increasing attention for the management and the conservation of environmental resources, along with biodiversity. Identifying the variables linked to their maintenance, in ecological, socio-cultural and political terms, is a necessary step of their sustainable management, and yet is still under-explored. My PhD project aimed at increasing the understanding of positive (synergies) and negative (trade-offs) interactions among ecosystem services and biodiversity through a multi-dimensional approach of the French Alps social-ecological system. - In Chapter I, I present a quantitative and spatially explicit biophysical assessment of ecosystem multifunctionality. After a modelling step, we explored spatial patterns of trade-offs and synergies among ecosystem services and biodiversity using a series of statistical analyses of increasing complexity. Results were structured to provide insights for sound environmental governance at multiple scales. We identified various bundles of ecosystem services representative of the different conditions across the French Alps massif in terms of biogeography, management and landscape heterogeneity. - This approach is complemented in Chapter II by a qualitative representation of influence relationships among ecosystem services and biodiversity that also accounts for additional ecological and social variables. We explicitly considered the multiple dimensions encompassed by the ecosystem service concept (their ‘facets') and proposed an innovative conceptual framework to represent their influence networks. This framework was applied to analyse a consultative process that we carried out with stakeholders of regional expertise. This analysis highlighted their general perception of important influence relationships in the alpine social ecological system. - In order to better understand social regulations linked to environmental governance, we test in Chapter III a methodology for assessing the environmental effectiveness of policy instruments. We concentrated on a restricted set of instruments regulating the interactions between biodiversity, agriculture and outdoor tourism. The consideration of multiple indicators assessing the performance and the fit with the socio-cultural and governance setting highlighted the complex articulation of instruments within the broader policy mix. Results were synthesised in a policy brief targeting regional decision-makers. - Chapter IV is conceived as my personal exploration of the conceptual and ethical issues linked to research on ecosystem services. Following some general thinking on the relations between environmental sciences and society, I conducted a personal reflexive assessment of the research projects I contributed to. To conclude, I propose a synthetic vision of the alpine social-ecological system and discuss the major issues revealed throughout the analyses

Cette recherche vise à traiter les sources infra-législatives en droit fiscal et particulièrement l'analyse du désordre normatif qui a lieu au niveau de l'agencement entre les sources infra-législatives. En effet, il convient d'abord de mentionner que la notion des sources est équivoque, et que la liste des sources en droit français n'est pas du droit positif. Un travail de délimitation du champ du travail autant pour des notions fondamentales que pour des critères de validités des normes a été indispensable.Le travail consiste cependant à démontrer que le centre de production des normes en matière fiscale a eu un déplacement vers les sources infra-législatives. La jurisprudence et la doctrine administrative fiscale, qui sont des sources interprétatives, se sont transformées en sources créatrices du droit. Une situation bien étrange vu l'existence du principe de légalité fiscale.Cela conduit à dégager un véritable désordre normatif à l'intérieur du droit fiscal. Ce désordre a été mis en avant par un plan biparti. Il a fallu étudier la position inattendue des sources infra-législatives en matières fiscale avant de traiter leurs positions dans l'ordonnancement juridique fiscal

L'objectif principal de cette thèse est d'améliorer la précision des systèmes de détection de piétons à partir d'image, basés sur l'apprentissage profond sans sacrifier à la vitesse de détection. Pour ce faire, nous effectuons d'abord une analyse quantitative systématique des diverses techniques de détection de piétons à partir d'image. Cette analyse nous permet d'identifier les configurations optimales des différentes composantes d'un système de détection de piétons. Nous examinons ensuite la question de la sélection des meilleures couches convolutionnelles pour extraire les caractéristiques visuelles pour la détection des piétons et proposons un système appelé Multiple-RPN, qui combine plusieurs couches convolutives simultanément. Nous proposons le système Multiple-RPN en deux configurations - une fusion tôt et une fusion-tardive ; nous démontrons ensuite que la fusion-tôt est la plus performante, en particulier pour la détection de piétons de petites tailles et les cas d'occultation de piétons. Cette étude fournit aussi une évaluation quantitative de la sélection des couches convolutionnelles. Nous intégrons ensuite l'approche de la fusion-tôt avec une étape de segmentation pseudo-sémantique pour réduire le cout de traitement. Dans cette approche, la segmentation pseudo-sémantique permet de réduire les faux positifs et les faux négatifs. Ceci, associé à un nombre réduit d'opérations, permet d'améliorer simultanément les performances de détection et la vitesse de traitement (~20 images/seconde) ; les performances sont compétitives avec celles de l'état de l'art sur les bases de données caltech-raisonable (3,79% de taux d'erreurs) et citypersons (7,19% de taux d'erreurs). La dernière contribution de cette thèse est la proposition d'une couche de classification des détections potentielles, qui réduit encore le nombre d'opérations de détection. Il en résulte une réduction de la vitesse de détection (~40 images/seconde) avec une perte minime de performance de détection (3,99% et 8,12% de taux d'erreurs dans les bases de données caltech-raisonable et citypersons respectivement) ce qui reste compétitif avec l'état de l'artThe main objective of this thesis is to improve the detection performance of deep learning based pedestrian detection systems without sacrificing detection speed. Detection speed and accuracy are traditionally known to be at trade-off with one another. Thus, this thesis aims to handle this trade-off in a way that amounts to faster and better pedestrian detection. To achieve this, we first conduct a systematic quantitative analysis of various deep learning techniques with respect to pedestrian detection. This analysis allows us to identify the optimal configuration of various deep learning components of a pedestrian detection pipeline. We then consider the important question of convolutional layer selection for pedestrian detection and propose a pedestrian detection system called Multiple-RPN, which utilizes multiple convolutional layers simultaneously. We propose Multiple-RPN in two configurations -- early-fused and late-fused; and go on to demonstrate that early fusion is a better approach than late fusion for detection across scales and occlusion levels of pedestrians. This work furthermore, provides a quantitative demonstration of the selectivity of various convolutional layers to pedestrian scale and occlusion levels. We next, integrate the early fusion approach with that of pseudo-semantic segmentation to reduce the number of processing operations. In this approach, pseudo-semantic segmentation is shown to reduce false positives and false negatives. This coupled with reduced number of processing operations results in improved detection performance and speed (~20 fps) simultaneously; performing at state-of-art level on caltechreasonable (3.79% miss-rate) and citypersons (7.19% miss-rate) datasets. The final contribution in this thesis is that of an anchor classification layer, which further reduces the number of processing operations for detection. The result is doubling of detection speed (~40 fps) with a minimal loss in detection performance (3.99% and 8.12% miss-rate in caltech-reasonable and citypersons datasets respectively) which is still at the state-of-art standard

The monograph first examines American public opinion as a major factor of social and political life in the period of the maturing of the Civil war (1861-1865 gg.). Special value it is given by the study of the struggle in the South and in the North, consideration of the process of formation of two socio-cultural models.
On the wide canvas of the socio-economic and political history in the monograph analyses the state and development of public opinion in the United States, sequentially from the compromise of 1850, a small civil war in Kansas, the uprising of John brown, of the maturing of "inevitable conflict," the secession of the southern States to the formation of the southern Confederacy and the Civil war. Reveals a fierce struggle, which was accompanied by the adoption of the compromise Kansas-Nebraska and the Supreme court decision in the Dred Scott case of 1857, which annulled the action of the famous Missouri compromise. Special attention is paid to the formation of the Republican party and the presidential elections of 1856 and 1860
Shown, as were incitement to hatred between citizens of the same country, which were used propaganda and manipulative techniques. The totality of facts gleaned from primary sources, especially the materials about these manipulations give an opportunity to look behind the scenes politics that led to the outbreak of the Civil war in the United States, a deeper understanding of its causes.

The monograph examines the period in the history of the United States immediately preceding the Civil War of 1861-1865. The problem that is at the center of the author's attention is the public opinion of Americans on the most important domestic political issues. The paper analyzes the influence of the newspaper "New York Tribune" on the formation of views, opinions and preferences of Americans. For the first time in Russian American studies, a thorough analysis of the leading periodical of the pre-war period is given, the composition of the editorial staff and the views of journalists are described in detail. Special attention is paid to the founder and publisher of "Tribune" Horace Greeley. The monograph examines both socio-economic problems and the party-political struggle. The most important compromise measures, the Civil War in Kansas, the presidential elections of 1856 and 1860 are evaluated through the prism of the comments of the New York Tribune and at the same time through the perception of its readers. As a result, the monograph creates a multicolored palette of opinions of North Americans, their perception of the situation in the country on the eve of the Civil War. This allows us to expand and deepen our understanding of the causes of the second North American revolution.

Over the last 70 years, Holocaust representations increased significantly as cultural objects distributed on a large scale: fictional books, museum sites, artworks, documentaries, and films are only a few samples of those echoes the Holocaust produced in contemporary Western culture. There are some specific patterns in the way the Holocaust has been represented that, however, contrast with the survivors’ account of the same event: for example, the dichotomy between bad and good characters so essential within Holocaust-based media – especially on television and film - does not really match with the testimony’s experience. While storytelling strategies may help to involve the public by emotionally engaging with the story, the risks of altering the real meaning of the Holocaust are quite high: what we often label as a “story” is actually been an outrageous, documented mass-genocide. Furthermore, as the age gap between the present and the past generation progresses, also the collective awareness of Nazi crimes as a real fact gets compromised. This volume explores selected Holocaust narrations by contextualizing the historical, literary, and social influences those texts had in their unique points of view. Starting with some recent examples of Holocaust exploitation through social media, the first chapter explores the paradigm shift when the Holocaust became a cultural, fictional trend rather than a historical massacre. In the second chapter, the analysis examines postmodern representations of Holocaust and Nazi semantics through relevant examples taken from both American and European literature. The third chapter analyses Europe Central by William T. Vollman, as all the narratological and cultural issues considered in the previous two chapters are well outlined in this articulated novel, where the relationship between reality and its representation after the postmodernist period is largely investigated. In chapter four, an account is given of the connections and differences between the narratological category romance, as understood by Northrop Frye, and Holocaust narration features. In chapter five, those elements are used to consider the work of Italian Holocaust survivor and Jewish writer Primo Levi, as his narration around Auschwitz adopts some fictional tools and still refuses undemanding storytelling mechanisms. The sixth and final chapter examines the relevant novel Les Benviellants by Jonathan Littell, considering its Nazi genocide account through the antagonist’s perspective.

Perpetration and Complicity under Nazism and Beyond analyses perpetration and complicity under National Socialism and beyond. Contributors based in the UK, the USA, Canada, Germany, Israel and Chile reflect on self-understandings, representations and narratives of involvement in collective violence both at the time and later – a topic that remains highly relevant today. Using the notion of ‘compromised identities’ to think about contentious questions relating to empathy and complicity, this inter-disciplinary collection addresses the complex relationships between people’s behaviours and self-understandings through and beyond periods of collective violence. Contributors explore the compromises that individuals, states and societies enter into both during and after such violence. Case studies highlight patterns of complicity and involvement in perpetration, and analyse how people’s stories evolve under changing circumstances and through social interaction, using varying strategies of justification, denial and rationalisation. Each chapter also considers the ways in which contemporary responses and scholarly practices may be affected by engagement with perpetrator representations.

This chapter covers what is known about the possible mechanisms of neurocognitive dysfunction in patients with psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES). It begins with a review of all research examining possible cognitive deficits in this population. Cognitive research in PNES is often obscured by noise created by a host of comorbid conditions (e.g., depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain) and associated issues (e.g., effects of medications and psychological processes that can compromise attention or broader cognition). More recent studies employing performance validity tests raise the possibility that studies finding broad cognitive problems in PNES may be highlighting a more transient phenomenon secondary to these comorbid or secondary factors. Such dysfunction would likely improve with successful management of PNES symptomatology, yet the effects of even transient variability likely compromises daily function until these issues are resolved. Future research must combine the use of neuropsychological testing, performance validity measures, psychological theory, neuroimaging analysis, and a thorough understanding of brain–behavior relationships to address whether there is a focal neuropathological syndrome associated with PNES.

These concluding reflections analyse the approaches and stances adopted across the volume and, on that basis, highlight some of the bones of contention in current human rights scholarship on conflicting (Convention) rights. The first matter on which opinions diverge is ‘to name or not to name’, i.e. whether or not to explicitly identify a conflict between Convention rights. The second is that of ‘choice versus compromise’, i.e. whether a finding of conflicting rights automatically leads to a solution that prioritizes one right over the other, or whether instead a compromise between the conflicting rights is preferable. The third issue is that of ‘balancing’ as opposed to other approaches that allow to prioritize among conflicting rights. The final issue, on which diverging opinions are discussed, is that of subsidiarity and the margin of appreciation.

<p>Modern smartphones offer diverse features, including ample storage, wireless data transfer, and various sensors, making them valuable for structural data collection. This study investigates the iPhone's LiDAR system for depth data collection, defining its field of view and assessing its performance for static and dynamic targets. We analyse limitations such as phone-to-target distance and noise properties. Measurement comparisons with a laser displacement transducer are conducted under different conditions to characterise the sensor’s properties. Discussions on the results include insights into Apple's AI-based sensor fusion framework, which enhances data resolution but potentially compromises accuracy in dynamic measurements. We demonstrate the system's practicality through modal analysis of a steel cantilever, revealing potential for bridge inspection and autonomous structural diagnostics via non-contact vibration sensing.</p>

La littérature qualitative concernant l’étude de l’expérience des consommateurs avec les compteurs intelligents, ainsi que les incitations qui y sont associées, est analysée afin d’identifier les barrières à leur acceptation et à leur adoption. L’acceptation est un élément clé car les ménages doivent d'abord être prêts à installer des compteurs intelligents chez eux. L'adoption permet quant à elle de savoir si ces dispositifs peuvent être efficaces. Parmi les barrières identifiées, il y a le fait que les ménages ne font pas confiance aux compagnies d'énergie. Ils ne savent pas comment agissent les compteurs intelligents et comment ils peuvent les utiliser à leur profit. Ils trouvent que la tarification dynamique est complexe et lorsqu'ils ont le choix, peu d’entre eux optent pour cette tarification. L’effet sur la consommation de ces dispositifs est souvent de courte durée, les économies monétaires étant rarement suffisamment élevées pour encourager des changements de comportement persistants et les ménages étant contraints de faire un feedback selon leur niveau de confort personnel – sur lequel ils ne sont pas prêts à faire des compromis – et les rigidités de leur vie quotidienne. Grâce à cette analyse, différents segments cibles de consommateurs de ces compteurs intelligents sont identifiés.

La sécurité repose sur deux sphères complémentaires que sont la «sécurité réglée» (l’anticipation des situations susceptibles de se produire et la mise en place de règles et de moyens pour y faire face) et la «sécurité gérée» (réaction compétente de personnes présentes en temps réel qui réagissent de façon appropriée). Ce document analyse l’articulation entre ces deux sphères basées sur la conformité et la proactivité, et les évolutions souhaitables au regard de celles de la société et du monde industriel. Il propose de dépasser la vision de deux formes de sécurité qui seraient reliées comme des vases communicants, l’un pouvant se développer uniquement au détriment de l’autre, pour explorer des formes d’articulation plus complexes, sous forme de codéveloppement ou de renforcement mutuel. Si l’essentiel du débat sur l’articulation réglé-géré a jusqu’alors concerné le travail des acteurs de première ligne et les compromis micro-centrés associés, ce document analyse également les arbitrages rendus dans l’ensemble de la chaîne hiérarchique jusqu’au comité exécutif (les compromis macro-centrés liés au pilotage de la sécurité et la gouvernance des risques), ainsi que la dimension inter-organisationnelle (impacts sur la relation avec l’autorité de contrôle de la sécurité, avec la justice, avec la société civile au sens le plus large) et les enjeux systémiques (phénomènes qui émergent de l’interaction entre les composantes du système qui ne sont pas visibles en analysant chaque composant isolément).

Ce texte se divise en quatre parties. La première présente l’agglomération de Montréal, ses dépenses et ses mécanismes de financement. L’agglomération crée en 2006 couvre le territoire administratif de l’île de Montréal. Ce territoire englobe la Ville de Montréal (qui regroupe 88% de la population) et 15 municipalités de banlieue. En 2020, les principales dépenses de l’agglomération comprennent les services policiers (28%), le transport en commun (25%), le service d’incendie (16%) et le service d’eau (10%). Son financement se fait par quotes-parts. Ces dernières reflètent à plus de 90 % la répartition de la richesse foncière entre les municipalités membres. Les municipalités de banlieue s’exprimant par leur association jugent leur contribution au financement des dépenses d’agglomération trop élevée. La deuxième partie du rapport présente les grands principes pouvant être utilisés pour choisir le mode de financement des services publics. On y examine comment les services de l’agglomération génèrent plus ou moins d’externalités et correspondent plus ou moins à la notion de bien collectif. La troisième partie présente des exemples de formule de partage des coûts entre municipalités pour cinq services publics : police, incendie, transport en commun, matières résiduelles et eau. La dernière partie indique que l’insatisfaction des banlieues ne s’explique pas par une détérioration de leur situation à travers le temps. L’utilisation de la population dans le calcul des quotes-parts ne constitue pas une pratique plus équitable que les valeurs foncières, mais peut représenter un compromis advenant un nouveau partage de la charge fiscale entre les municipalités.

An updated stability analysis was performed on the Old River Low Sill Structure due to a change in the operating conditions from historic river sedimentation. Sedimentation of the Mississippi River channel since the 1973 spring flood has caused higher river stages at lower discharges. Numerical methods used included nonlinear analysis of pile group stability, seepage analyses, and limit equilibrium methods. The structure’s foundation was compromised during the 1973 flood, and emergency repairs were conducted to prevent scouring and undermining of the foundation by the flood scour. Rehabilitation included the reconstruction of a failed wing wall on the left abutment, rock and riprap fill in the forebay channel, and emergency grouting to fill the scour hole beneath the structure. An operating restriction was emplaced to limit the differential head across the structure due to flood damage. Taking these conditions into account, results from an updated analysis showed that full headwater uplift caused increased tension in the piles, while the increased body load caused increased compressive loads in the piles. Review of piezometric monitoring and the seepage analyses showed that full headwater uplift is unlikely, indicating the foundation grouting adequately sealed the scour hole beneath the structure. Analysis results exhibited lower magnitude compression and tension loads in the piles with design load cases compared to previous analyses. Recommendations from these analyses indicate that increased monitoring and additional investigation may support increasing the differential head limitation.

Differential movement of a buried pipeline resulting from terrain instabilities such as subsidence, fault slippage, frost heave, ice scouring, soil movement, and landslide can create localized areas of high stress in a pipeline. These areas may be susceptible to mechanical failure and therefore may compromise the structural integrity of the line. Nondestructive testing (NDT) methods that can detect high-stress regions and measure the magnitude of the stress in the pipeline are needed to determine if or when remedial action must be taken to prevent stress-related damage. The areas of high stress can compromise the integrity of the pipeline, despite the fact that the highly stressed areas may not be readily detectable. �This report describes two phases of development for a nonintrusive technique to quantify the local, throughwall average axial stress in an exposed pipe. The technique selected for evaluation and development is a low-frequency, electromagnetic technique, called multiparameter magnetic measurement (MPMM). MPMM is a combination of existing magnetic techniques including magnetic hysteresis measurement, nonlinear harmonic analysis, and multiparameter correlation. The work included both a proof-of-principle demonstration of the technique using samples of grade X-42, X-46, and X-52 pipe (Phase I), and further determination of practical applicability of the MPMM technique (Phase II). Phase II focused on evaluating the variability of magnetic response to stress among five samples of grade X-42 pipe.

Safety in complex systems is produced by two complementary reservoirs: procedural compliance (the anticipation of potential hazards and implementation of procedures and other preventive barriers, also called “rule-based safety”) and initiative (the actions of competent front-line workers who react appropriately to conditions in real-time, also called “managed safety”). This document analyses the articulation between these two sources of safety, and the way in which it may evolve given changes in the industrial world and in societal expectations. It suggests moving past a view of these two forms of safety as alternatives which could only develop one at the expense of the other, to explore more complex forms of interaction, such as co-development or mutual reinforcement between procedural compliance and initiative. While the core of the debate on the relationship between compliance and initiative has so far focused on the work of frontline staff and the associated micro-centered compromises, this document also examines the decisions made across the entire management line up to the executive committee (the macro-centered compromises related to safety management and risk governance), as well as inter-organizational dimensions (impacts on relations with the safety authority, the judiciary, and civil society) and the resulting systemic issues (phenomena that emerge from the interaction between system components that are not visible when analyzing each component in isolation).
