Accessibility is a very pivotal discourse for people with dissabilities as it encourages their equal participation and independence in the society. Accessibility, in this paper, is divided into 2 (two) kinds, which are physical and nonphysical one. The physical accessibility refers to accesibilty in the relations with buildings and environment whereas the nonphysical one corresponds to communication, information and technology. This paper also reveals testimony from various activists of DPOs (disabled people organizations). The data presented here was collected in 2012 through qualitative study in DIY (Yogyakarta Special Province). The paper concludes that eventhough Indonesia has been enacted regulations on accessibilty to people with disabilities, its implementation is ineffectice and discrimination still occurs to the population.

Accessibility is an important link between transportation and land use. As a typical measure of accessibility, logsum or a utility-based measure has been widely used in project appraisal, urban transit accessibility evaluation, destination choice, and network vulnerability analysis. Since the logsum term is the log of the denominator of the choice probability expression, it inherits the independently and identically distributed (IID) assumptions of the classical multinomial logit (MNL) route choice model. This paper aims to explore whether the IID assumptions have a significant effect on the logsum-based accessibility analysis, given that accessibility analysis focuses at the origin-destination (O-D) level and zonal level (aggregate analysis) rather than at the route level (disaggregate analysis). We derive two new logsum terms for two representative extended logit stochastic user equilibrium (SUE) models, that is, the C-logit model for relaxing the independence assumption and the MNL model with scaling effect (MNLs) for relaxing the identically distributed assumption. The case analysis of a real network in Winnipeg, Canada shows that: (1) there does exist a difference in accessibility evaluation among the three logsum terms using the three route choice models; (2) relaxing the identically distributed assumption is more important than the independence assumption since the difference in accessibility evaluation between MNLs-logsum and MNL-logsum is larger than that between C-logit-logsum and MNL-logsum; (3) the difference in accessibility evaluation at the zonal level is smaller than that at the O-D level; and (4) the difference increases with the dispersion parameter.

Purpose – Extra care housing (ECH) is housing for older people that aims to provide flexible care while fostering independence. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact that some of the successes and failures in improving accessibility during remodelling had on care provision, in order to offer advice to social housing providers planning to remodel existing properties into ECH. Design/methodology/approach – The data consisted of an inventory of accessibility features and assistive technology (AT) items in flats and common areas. The data were drawn from ten ECH schemes in different regions of England. Findings – Most of the AT found was low-technology supporting independence, such as grabbers; some was specific to care provision, such as hoists. Even after remodelling, the design and layout of most buildings did not fully comply with accessibility standards, leading to increased provision of care for some tenants: a care-negative situation. Research limitations/implications – This multidisciplinary, original research on remodelling into ECH presents successful examples of accessibility, AT and care integration that required active tenant involvement and creative design input from care staff, architects and builders who were AT and accessibility aware. It is argued that for new and remodelled ECH buildings to be care-neutral, designers need to work towards the most inclusive model of ECH. Originality/value – This is original research that has produced guidance for builders, developers, policy makers and other stake holders.

INTRODUCTION: Research and personal stories from disability advocates have highlighted the significant impact of environmental inaccessibility on an individual’s independence and dignity. This article focuses on accessibility for autistic individuals, specifically the lack of accessibility they experience in built environments due to limited autism awareness among professionals and the public. METHOD: Literature focusing on social work’s role with autistic individuals, autism-friendly approaches, and accessible architecture was reviewed. The social model of disability and critical disability theory were utilised to explore social work’s responsibility to develop and advocate for environmental accessibility for autistic individuals. Through this analysis and the collation of strategies from the reviewed literature, the Environmental Accessibility Infographic was developed. IMPLICATIONS: The Environmental Accessibility Infographic has broad implications. Firstly, it can be applied to any built environment to improve accessibility for autistic people and others with sensory processing needs. Secondly, the accessibility strategies have the potential to positively impact social workers’ practice with autistic people as they can guide change that will ensure their practice is autism-friendly and anti-oppressive.

Individuals with Intellectual Disability (ID) struggle to learn daily living skills (DLS) required for independent living. One specific skill set that is challenging for individuals with ID is grocery shopping. The current study is one of two investigations that have been undertaken entirely in the community and without the use of booster session simulations in a classroom. This study investigated the effects of using least-to-most prompting and mobile technology as a tool to assist 18 to 22-year-old adult students with ID to find six items from a grocery-shopping list. Dependent measures included the number of task steps completed correctly, selecting the correct items from the shopping list, and the duration of shopping. Sessions were conducted twice a week in a community grocery store. A single subject, multiple probe design across participants was employed. There were three phases in this study. The phases included: (a) teaching an initial grocery list, (b) teaching a re-sequenced grocery list, and (c) teaching a replacement grocery list. Overall, the participants demonstrated improvements in their ability to complete the task steps and locate grocery items during the intervention condition in phase one. Two of the three participants’ duration of shopping also improved over the course of the intervention in phase one. However, only one participant advanced to phases two and three of the study as the others did not meet the criterion of achieving 85% or better on the task analysis, which was needed to advance to the subsequent phases of the study. The results of this study suggest that the use of mobile devices used with least-to-most prompting can have a degree of positive effect on the acquisition of functional skills such as locating grocery items by 18 to 22-year-old students with ID. However, for some students either additional weekly sessions in the community setting or classroom simulations are needed. Alternatively, researchers and practitioners might consider pairing mobile technology with different prompting and prompt fading systems (e.g., most-to-least prompting) for students struggling to acquire this skill set in a community setting.

Ageing has become a significant research area in the last few decades. The most important reason that makes ageing issue significant is the increasing rate of the older indviduals within the population all around the world. Statistical data on ageing both in Turkey and in the world reveals that, in the near future, the number of population over 65 will increase dramatically. It can be asserted that there will be an urgent need of specifically designed accommodation for this portion of the population. Hence, this thesis intends to search for and practice a design solution for the elderly housing. One of the instruments that supported the formulation of such a solution is the subject of &lsquo
universal design&rsquo
. Within the scope of this study, the principles of universal design and its relationship with ageing are defined, examined and evaluated. It is accepted that living environment has effect on the enhancement of the individual&rsquo
s quality of life. For this reason, the relationship between person and environment is briefly discussed in congruence with principles of universal design and provision of quality of life. Accessibility, safety, privacy, autonomy and independence are the common concerns of universal design and provision of a higher quality of life. With review of the definitions of specific elderly housing types, another approach for this study is to make a case study of the existing architectural solutions for the elderly housing. This helped to understand architectural approaches to the relationship between ageing and environment in the world. In the light of the findings, an architectural project, presenting a habitable environment for the elderly, is proposed. For the project, the concept of &ldquo
assisted living&rdquo
as a new category for elderly housing, is chosen.

People with manipulative and locomotive disabilities represents a large fraction of the population classified as disabled, including the elder, injured and other health related issues. Wheelchairs have evolved in order to maintain their mobility, autonomy and independence in the society. Despite important achievements in accessibility in current society (e.g. streets adapted to wheelchairs, or public transportation adapted with ramps and elevators), people with motor disabilities still lack independence in daily activities to improve their quality of life. Shopping is one example, where users can not access products in shelves beyond their arm length. Due to this barrier they often need personal assistance or support to complete all the necessary steps in the shopping activity. However, wheelchair users may prefer to shop individually (that is, without the assistance) in order to maintain their independence and privacy. This dissertation presents a novel systems that allows wheelchair user to interact with items placed beyond their arm length, by means of real-time interactive interfaces collaborated with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Our proposal, based on the concept of Smart Spaces, allows the users to interact through Hand-held, Smart Glass or Touch Screen interfaces in real-time with the items present on the shelf. We designed and evaluated the system with the participation of 18 wheelchair users with different degrees of physical disabilities. The obtained results demonstrate the suitability of our proposed system towards an improvement of the independence and empowerment of wheelchair users in shopping activities.

This paper aims to study the importance of media accessibility, as it is conceptually defined by current research, for the relationship between free media and corruption. Previous studies have determined that a free, independent media plays a vital role in not only curbing corruption but also in sustaining and monitoring a healthy democracy. They have also confirmed that there is a significant correlation between the degree of press freedom and the degree of corruption, in which a freer press has a negative impact on the conditions for corruption. Nevertheless, press freedom and independent media, as said studies have established, cannot be seen as an easy solution or a “quick fix” when fighting corruption. More recent studies have concluded that accessibility is a dimension that could possibly determine how effective the free, independent media is for fighting and preventing corruption. This paper aims to dig deeper into this theory.   The purpose of the study is to distinguish what kind of role media accessibility plays in maximising the free medias effectiveness in the role as a watchdog towards public power. This study hopes to achieve it’s purpose by analysing what the direct effects and consequences of media revelations surrounding corruption cases has resulted in for different countries in relation to the degree of accessibility. The study will also take into account the distinction between rule-based versus relationship-based cultures and how corruption can be perceived and viewed differently between the two. This perspective is to be seen as a complementary outlook and possible explanation when determining if the potential dissimilarities in the effects of media revelations amongst countries are due to differences in accessibility or due to inherent cross-cultural differences. Our work has shown clear differences in the resulted effects of media revelations. However, it is impossible to identify whether the variations among countries in regard to actual effects depend on the degree of accessibility or due to inherent cross-cultural differences between nations.

Independent Living Transition Assistance for Young Adults Who Have Special Needs. Rhonda L. Russell, 2016: Applied Dissertation, Nova Southeastern University, Abraham S. Fischler College of Education. Keywords: special education, disadvantaged youth, economically disadvantaged This research focused on young adults who have disabilities and their transition and career planning for post-secondary life. The study sought to identify best practices in transition planning, transition planning services, and to determine the types of resources and support needed by young adults who have disabilities. For youth who have disabilities, the transition to adulthood is extremely challenging. Policies, systems, and services tend to be uncoordinated or fragmented, and youth who have disabilities and their families lack the information needed to navigate the transition successfully, which limits opportunities for full participation in adult life. It was concluded from the study results that transitioning from secondary education programs to post-secondary education or training programs and employment is most aided by (a) positive support from family, (b) the introduction of transition services early in the young adults’ secondary education experience, and (c) young adults availing themselves of services provided by disability service agencies such as job skill development, self-advocacy training, independent living, etc. Additionally, it was concluded from the study results that maintaining employment is as equally challenging as is obtaining employment. Interview respondents reported facing challenges such as discrimination and compromised privacy. Impediments to transition included low self- esteem, independence discouraged by family members, limited transportation, access to services, and limited knowledge about available services. Recommendations to expand the use of rehabilitation and employment services included interagency collaboration and innovative marketing approaches.

This thesis is the result of two studies concerning children’s independent mobility, which means the freedom for children to walk or bike on their own or together with friends but without being escorted by parents. The studies are accomplished in four different areas and are also searching for different environmental qualities. The areas differ concerning traffic planning and architecture but also concerning commercial and cultural choice. The aim is to understand and describe how places are constructed and designed when they are used and experienced in a positive – or a negative – way by children. I emphasize, that we – through the responses in meeting with other people – learn hidden and visible rules and also how to change perspective and roles. I therefore focus on the meeting between children and other people but also on meeting between children and places. The issue is: What do places look like – what qualities or qualifications – can be notified as important to children to perceive coherence that consequently make them learn to control their environment and develop to harmonious grown-ups. The main questions are: In what degree can children’s independent mobility be related to the planning and design in the four areas? Why do some neighbourhoods/places appear as more important to children than others, making children use them in a varied way? Is it possible to describe qualities in neighbourhoods in a way that can be interpreted as meaningful for children’s development? In the first study 732 children in grade two and five in compulsory school, filled in a questionnaire and the questions focused on how they got to school, to friends, to activities etc. The results showed that in the area with more traffic than the other three areas, children were more often taken by car to school and to leisure activities. Even international research in the nineties did show that children had lost the accessibility to their neighbourhood. In the second study, 32 children in the same areas guided me around in their environment showing me the way to school and places they used to visit. At the same time they told me what they liked or disliked in their neighbourhood. Afterwards they were interviewed and they also had the opportunity to fill in so called “mobility maps”. The content in this text mainly focuses the second study. From the children’s statements, a summary of the most important differences looks as follows: I The accessibility in neighbourhoods and places: i.e. children’s independent mobility – or if they had to be escorted by grown-ups – and if they could fiddle about. II Children’s play and activities: i.e. if they had something to do, if they played in pairs or in groups and if play could take place without planning. III Children’s experiences of places and people: i.e. if they had something to show me and to tell me, if there were any meetings with other persons, if the children talked about their own yard and appreciated green areas, if they had fun or not, if they were afraid being out and if they told me any memories from some places. The theoretical framework is based on Johan Asplund’s theory on social responsivity and G. H. Mead’s theory on social relations and his view of the importance of objects. The study also is based on three different place theories as expressed by David Canter, Christian Norberg-Schulz and Clarence Crafoord and Asplund’s view of place and placelessness. This study has made it clear that everything children do in their neighbourhood can be related to concrete places and things but it differed concerning what and how they played, what they experienced and what the meetings looked like – if any. Environmental qualities arise, as I have interpreted my results, when neighbourhoods and places are safe, when there are landmarks, places for meetings, possibility of orientation and sense of locality and when the places are varied and challenging. Conclusions are drawn regarding differences in social responsivity, if there is a sense of having a place of one’s own – that in the same time is shared by other people – and if places are responding. From these statements place identity can be seen as a merging of the qualities in places and the perceived sense of place as described above. To have opportunity to investigate the neighbourhood is also an important part of children’s informal learning. They learn how to read the surroundings and how to find the way in a town or in an environment. They get to know the neighbourhood and the world outside and so they also learn how to behave and how to control themselves and even the life. Results showed though that the children in the four areas made those experiences but, certainly, in different ways.

Disability is created, measured, and supported through material culture. Technology, a kind of material culture, has an especially close relationship with disability in that it both supports daily activities and is often a primary element in defining who is of worth or qualifies as human. Some of the unique and complicated ways in which disability and material culture interact and intersect are presented here, highlighting such things as sensory and nonverbal information, material expression of inclusion and accessibility, definitions of technology, the prevalence of do-it-yourself solutions, and ideologies of assistance and independence. Also discussed is the use of two broad functions of technology, objects of activity and objects of worth, as an entry point into critical disability studies analysis.

This chapter focuses on university reform in Victorian Britain. Change was imposed on the universities of Victorian Britain by outside forces, but it was also the outcome of a struggle within the universities. This struggle was most intense and consequential for the universities in Oxford and Cambridge, owing to their uniquely close connection with established structures of power and privilege in religion, politics, and society. One of the more strident of those who opposed reform was Alexander James Beresford Hope, MP for Cambridge University from 1868 to 1887. The chapter then investigates the universities' connection with the Church, focusing on religious tests, clerical personnel, and theological instruction. It also considers disagreements about other areas of reform: endowments, fellowships, and headships; the independence of colleges; curriculum, teaching, ‘research’, and examinations; administrative and financial issues; and accessibility and the composition of the student body.

This book explores William Wordsworth’s pervasive influence on the tourist landscapes of the Lake District throughout the age of transport revolutions, popular tourism, and the Great 1914-18 War. It reveals how Wordsworth’s response to railways was not a straightforward matter of opposition and protest; his ideas were taken up by advocates and opponents of railways, and through their controversies had a surprising impact on the earliest motorists as they sought a language to describe the liberty and independence of their new mode of travel. Once the age of motoring was underway, the outbreak of the First World War encouraged British people to connect Wordsworth’s patriotic passion with his wish to protect the Lake District as a national heritage—a transition that would have momentous effects in the interwar period when the popularisation of motoring paradoxically brought a vogue for open-air activities and a renewal of Romantic pedestrianism. With the arrival of global tourism, preservation of the cultural landscape of the Lake District became an urgent national and international concern. By revealing how Romantic ideas of nature, travel, liberty and self-reliance were re-interpreted and utilized in discourses on landscape, transport, accessibility, preservation, war and cultural heritage, this book portrays multiple Wordsworthian legacies in modern ways of perceiving and valuing the nature and culture of the Lake District.

Robotic technologies can provide people with disabilities the invaluable tools to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Few studies have investigated how effective and accessible the control of robotic aids is for people with severe physical disabilities with respect to their needs and current facility with technology. Though present-day robotic aids can help people with disabilities with important daily living tasks, there is still room for improvement. In this chapter, an overview of the state-of-the-art robotics that help promote independence for people with disabilities, especially individuals with physical limitations, is presented. Active research areas supporting tasks and services for persons with physical disabilities include development of robotic prototypes, designed specifically for domestic applications, rehabilitation, mobility assistance, personal hygiene care and meal assistance, and education and employment. Existing challenges and recommendations to support and increase independence for persons with motor limitations with robotics technologies are provided as insight to advance research.

Accessibility means free access to content and services, regardless of one’s physical and cognitive limitations, maximizing the user’s aspect of hardware and software platform independence. Providing this access is a technical issue more than an ethical issue because the characteristics and limiting standards of accessibility are widely known but little used by software engineers, developers, and content producers. Although there is a specific set of standards and legislation to address these difficulties, accessibility is still far from being a priority among developers and content producers. One of the challenges for ubiquitous teaching, in the present and near future, is building tools to support the creation of accessible learning objects, in compliance with current and future standards. This chapter concerns accessibility standards and points out technological ways to enable the creation of support tools in order to minimize accessibility flaws.

Professional education of persons with disabilities is an important sphere of education enabling psychically and physiologically impaired persons to get economic independence contributing to their integration in society. The quality of professional education for persons with disabilities is realized only in conditions considering specifics of communicative and cognitive activity of the students with different disability categories. The absence of these conditions in universities makes it impossible for this category of students to complete the programs of higher education. As a rule, the contents of the study programs and the study schedule do not take this category of students into consideration.

Over the last decade, there has been a significant increase in the identification of students with Autism. According to research and the laws that guide Special Education, inclusive settings benefit both students with and without disabilities. However, teaching students with Autism in inclusive settings can bring about challenges, as teachers are responsible to effectively manage academic and social behaviors. Years of research support the evidence that behaviors do not occur in isolation and behaviors serve a function, even those that are deemed as socially maladaptive. Today's classroom teachers need the tools necessary to identify the function of the student behavior so that appropriate strategies can be applied. Based on the evidence, these strategies can be used to target and transform socially significant behaviors required for successful inclusion and optimized independence.

Mobile phones have contributed substantially to greater levels of social participation and independence by people with disabilities. Mobile phone technologies (including tablets) have become increasingly powerful, sophisticated, flexible, and ubiquitous since the first commercial mobile wireless phone call was made on October 13, 1983. In 2007, the launch of the first iPhone with its capacitive touchscreen interface ushered in a new era of accessibility, usability, and assistive technology for people with disabilities. Still, important economic and accessibility barriers to greater mobile phone use by people with disabilities remain. The evolution of mobile phone behaviors of people with sensory, physical, and cognitive disabilities is closely intertwined with the development of ever more powerful and flexible mobile phone technology, as well as the evolution of statutory and regulatory requirements for accessibility and use. This article summarizes these developments, by first identifying and defining disabilities, then distinguishing between assistive technology and accessible technology. Finally, the complex evolution of mobile phone technology and mobile phone behaviors by people with disabilities is reviewed.

In many low-mid income settings, accessibility of health services remains inadequate and inequitable. These observed disparities in accessibility are particularly evident for oral healthcare services. The access to oral healthcare is influenced by the responsiveness of the health system, including availability of human resources for health, oral health facilities’ infrastructure, geographical distribution, equipment and materials as well as community’s awareness and affordability of the provided services. The evolution of oral healthcare access in Tanzania; from the early post-colonial phases of independence to current transition that the country is undergoing from low to a low-mid income economy is presented. The major health policies’ transition from “Free Healthcare” services to “Cost-sharing” and ultimately to “Health Insurance” are presented within the context of their influence towards oral healthcare access.

Spatial configuration plays a role in the formation and types of neighbourhood activities. The common in-between spaces in an informal neighbourhood plays an important role in sustaining socio-economic networks and activities within the neighbourhood. The spatial configuration can create and enhance these activities and networks among its residents. This research investigates the spatial configuration of urban, dense, self – organized (informal) neighbourhood in Badulla and the activities generated within these spaces. It explores the positive social networks and interactions impacted by spatial configuration. Systematic observations, user perceptions, and space syntax is used to explore activities in space, the quality of space and the spatial configurations . Research findings show that necessary and social activities are dominant in spatially integrated space which are also visually and physically accessible, connected to the neighbourhood and commercial activities with high levels of surveillance. While optional activities dominate the spatially segregated spaces study also shows that these spaces are also socially disconnected with poor land use mix, links to residences, and low visual connections with other buildings. Physical characteristics further deterred these spaces from being socially and physically active. Even though functions that encourage social and active activity types are located in these spaces, such as play areas, playgrounds, these spaces are underutilised. Study shows that the physical chracteristics of the spaces also play a role in generating different activity types and nature of activity. Generating spaces with more surveillance, connectivity to other land uses such as shops, and houses and higher visibility can encourage more social activities even in the segregated spaces. The ad-hoc street side spaces and streets, lanes, alleys have become the major social spaces in the neighbourhood. Designated social spaces must be spatially integrated with a higher visibility, and accessibility to residential, commercial functions for better utilisation of those spaces.

Electromyographic (EMG) processing is an important research area with direct applications to prosthetics, exoskeletons and human-machine interaction. Current state of the art decoding methods require intensive training on a single user before it can be utilized, and have been unable to achieve both user-independence and real-time performance. This paper presents a real-time EMG classification method which generalizes across users without requiring an additional training phase. An EMG-embedded sleeve quickly positions and records from EMG surface electrodes on six forearm muscles. An optimized decision tree classifies signals from these sensors into five distinct movements for any given user using EMG energy synergies between muscles. This method was tested on 10 healthy subjects using leave-one-out validation, resulting in an overall accuracy of 79±6.6%, with sensitivity and specificity averaging 66% and 97.6%, respectively, over all classified motions. The high specificity values demonstrate the ability to generalize across users, presenting opportunities for large-scale studies and broader accessibility to EMG-driven applications.

The article deals with e-learning? cultural challenges. The first part emphasizes the notion of e-learning. E-learning means learning in a virtual world where technology cooperates with human creativity to accelerate and facilitate deep knowledge of the area studied. In a broad sense, e-learning means all learning situations where the resources of information and communication technology are used. Online education is, to a certain extent, different from traditional education that we are all accustomed to. Once the access to a computer is done, who wants to study online must be used to search the Internet, e-mail, send and receive attachments, word processing. Writing is the main method of communication in online classes. I also underlined the advantages and disadvantages of e-learning in comparison to the traditional education system. One of the major advantages of e-learning is the geographical independence, mobility, accessibility, flexibility; the user can decide the time he/she will involve in training activities. A disadvantage of e-learning is the fact that the trainees can drop out online courses easier due to a lack of motivation. Finally, the article ends up with the concept of blended learning, a combination of e-learning and traditional education. Blended learning responds to a wide variety of learning styles and needs through flexibility, high adaptability, economy of space and time, taking advantage both of cognitive resources and human resources. The conclusion is that the new information and communication technologies change the perspective on educational practice, completing the education system with modern learning methodologies specific to the information society.

• Older adults have complex and unique needs that can influence how and when cancer is diagnosed, the types of treatment that are offered, how well treatment is tolerated and treatment outcomes. • This Evidence Check review identified 41 studies that specifically addressed barriers and enablers to cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment among adults aged 65 years and older. • Question 1: The main barriers for older people at risk of and/or living with cancer to access and participate in timely cancer screening relate to lack of knowledge, fear of cancer, negative beliefs about the consequences of cancer, and hygiene concerns in completing testing. The main enablers to participation in timely cancer screening include positive/helpful beliefs about screening, social influences that encourage participation and knowledge. • Question 2: The main barriers for older people at risk of and/or living with cancer to access and/or seek timely cancer diagnosis relate to lack of knowledge of the signs and symptoms of cancer that are distinct from existing conditions and ageing, healthcare accessibility difficulties, perceived inadequate clinical response from healthcare providers, and harmful patient beliefs about risk factors and signs of cancer. The main enablers to accessing and/or seeking a timely cancer diagnosis include knowledge of the signs and symptoms of cancer, and support from family and friends that encourage help-seeking for symptoms. • Question 3: The main barriers for older people at risk of and/or living with cancer in accessing and completing cancer treatment include discrimination against patients in the form of ageism, lack of knowledge, patient concern about the adverse effects of treatment, predominantly on their independence, healthcare accessibility difficulties including travel and financial burden, and patients’ caring responsibilities. The main enablers to accessing and completing cancer treatment are social support from peers in a similar situation, family and friends, the influence of healthcare providers, and involving patients in treatment decision making. • Implications. The development of strategies to address the inequity of cancer outcomes in people aged 65 years and older in NSW should consider: Increasing community members’ and patients’ knowledge and awareness by providing written information and decision support tools from a trusted source Reducing travel and financial burden by widely disseminating information about existing support schemes and expanding remote patient monitoring and telehealth Improving social support by promoting peer support, and building the support capacity of family carers Addressing ageism by supporting patients in decision making, and disseminating education initiatives about geriatric oncology to healthcare providers Providing interdisciplinary geriatric oncology care by including a geriatrician as part of multidisciplinary teams and/or expanding geriatric oncology clinics.
