Анотація:
Carbazole is an important type of tricyclic nitrogen containing compound and isolated first from coal tar in 1872 by Graebe and Glazer. Carbazole alkaloids have received considerable attention since their discovery in the 1960’s and their derivatives are well known for their pharmacological activities. Many recent studies have reported that carbazole derivatives exhibit a variety of biological activities. Toxicity of test compound in cells was determined by MTT assay based on mitochondrial reduction of yellow MTT tetrazolium dye to a highly blue colored formazan product. Among the ten synthesized compounds, 12c, 12d, 12e, 12f, 12g and 12i were showed good activity. In which 12c, 12d and 12e showed moderate activity on MCF-7 cancer cell line. Compounds 12f, 12g and 12i showed more potent activity than control. Compounds 12f, 12g and 12i showed more potent activity than control adriamycin. In future, we will plan further mechanistic studies on most potent active compounds 12f, 12g and 12i.

14S,22-Dihydroxy-docosa-4Z,7Z,10Z,12E,16Z,19Z-hexaenoic acid (maresin-L1) and 14R,22-dihydroxy-docosa-4Z,7Z,10Z, 12E,16Z,19Z-hexaenoic acid (maresin-L2) were chemically synthesized. They were identical to activated macrophage-produced counterparts and their total synthesis was highly stereoselective, as revealed by chiral LC-UV-MS/MS analysis. The synthesis involved the following steps: (1) kinetic resolution of a racemic allylic alcohol by the asymmetric epoxidation; (2) transformation of the epoxy alcohol to γ-hydroxyenal derivative; and (3) the Wittig reaction to furnish the Z-olefin.

A synthesis of dialkyl (12E,14E)-7-oxo-10,11-dihydro-7H,9H-azocino[2,1-a]benzo[de]isoquinoline-13,14-dicarboxylates through a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of azomethine ylides, generated in situ from proline and acenaphthylene-1,2-dione, with dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates is described. According to the X-ray diffraction data, the tetrahydroazocine ring has a rigid twist-boat form with approximate local C2 symmetry.

L’article vise à rendre compte de l’évolution des dialogues dans un corpus composé de 15 textes narratifs médiévaux (vies de saints, chansons de geste et romans). Elle se focalise sur le système de balisage des prises de parole qui apparaît dès les débuts du français. La comparaison des dialogues et des monologues permet d’observer le développement progressif des premiers au cours du 12e siècle ainsi que des changements dans leur structuration interne. D’un côté, les prises de parole ne sont plus aussi nettement séparées les unes des autres qu’elles l’étaient généralement dans la période ancienne et ce sont les incises internes aux prises de parole qui indiquent le changement de locuteur. D’un autre côté, les séquences dialogales de plus en plus longues et nombreuses tendent à constituer des unités discursives de premier plan dans certains textes narratifs. Vers la fin du 12e siècle, de nouvelles configurations semblent apparaître, qui accentuent l’intégration de ces séquences au récit environnant par le biais notamment du passage du discours indirect au discours direct.

The two oxylipins 7S,14S-dihydroxydocosahexaenoic acid (diHDHA) and 7S,17S-diHDHA [resolvin D5 (RvD5)] have been found in macrophages and infectious inflammatory exudates and are believed to function as specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs). Their biosynthesis is thought to proceed through sequential oxidations of DHA by lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes, specifically, by human 5-LOX (h5-LOX) first to 7(S)-hydroxy-4Z,8E,10Z,13Z,16Z,19Z-DHA (7S-HDHA), followed by human platelet 12-LOX (h12-LOX) to form 7(S),14(S)-dihydroxy-4Z,8E,10Z,12E,16Z,19Z-DHA (7S,14S-diHDHA) or human reticulocyte 15-LOX-1 (h15-LOX-1) to form RvD5. In this work, we determined that oxidation of 7(S)-hydroperoxy-4Z,8E,10Z,13Z,16Z,19Z-DHA to 7S,14S-diHDHA is performed with similar kinetics by either h12-LOX or h15-LOX-1. The oxidation at C14 of DHA by h12-LOX was expected, but the noncanonical reaction of h15-LOX-1 to make over 80% 7S,14S-diHDHA was larger than expected. Results of computer modeling suggested that the alcohol on C7 of 7S-HDHA hydrogen bonds with the backbone carbonyl of Ile399, forcing the hydrogen abstraction from C12 to oxygenate on C14 but not C17. This result raised questions regarding the synthesis of RvD5. Strikingly, we found that h15-LOX-2 oxygenates 7S-HDHA almost exclusively at C17, forming RvD5 with faster kinetics than does h15-LOX-1. The presence of h15-LOX-2 in neutrophils and macrophages suggests that it may have a greater role in biosynthesizing SPMs than previously thought. We also determined that the reactions of h5-LOX with 14(S)-hydroperoxy-4Z,7Z,10Z,12E,16Z,19Z-DHA and 17(S)-hydroperoxy-4Z,7Z,10Z,13Z,15E,19Z-DHA are kinetically slow compared with DHA, suggesting that these reactions may be minor biosynthetic routes in vivo. Additionally, we show that 7S,14S-diHDHA and RvD5 have anti-aggregation properties with platelets at low micromolar potencies, which could directly regulate clot resolution.

Cet article présente les résultats d’une recherche sur les perceptions d’élèves du secondaire à propos de la diversité sexuelle, afin d’identifier leurs constructions hétéronormatives. L’étude de cas qualitative a été menée auprès de 24 participant⋅e⋅s provenant d’une école secondaire du Grand Vancouver, au moyen d’un questionnaire, d’enregistrements sonores de discussions réalisées en classe, d’un journal de bord et de huit entretiens individuels semi-dirigés. Quoique quelques participant⋅e⋅s aient manifesté de la pensée critique et de l’introspection, plusieurs tendaient à réaffirmer des visions du monde hétéronormatives, à normaliser la diversité sexuelle et à minimiser l’impact de l’homophobie comme forme de discrimination systémique. Des pistes d’action sont proposées pour guider le développement d’une pratique pédagogique queer.

Ce travail de recherche a été réalisé à partir de l’étude de plus de 64 000 restes osseux provenant de 39 ensembles chrono-stratigraphiques issus de 7 sites répartis entre la ville et ses faubourgs. A l’aide de ce mobilier inédit, cette étude s’est attachée à appréhender, au travers des restes osseux, la ville dans ses dimensions économiques, culturelles et sociales entre les 14e et 17e siècles. Ainsi, au travers des études des proportions d’espèces, des âges et des sexes des animaux consommés, il a été possible de dresser les grandes tendances de l’approvisionnement de la ville durant ces quatre siècles tout en s’attachant à montrer la multiplicité des modes d’acquisition des animaux domestiques comme sauvages. Pour s’approvisionner en bétail, Tours met à contribution non seulement les élevages locaux consacrés à la production de viande mais aussi ceux qui produisent lait et laine. Ce travail a aussi mis en lumière aux portes de la ville le traitement industriel des carcasses de bœufs (traitement boucher et collecte de graisse). Cette étude a permis de caractériser le régime en viande des citadins et de différents contextes sociaux de la ville et notamment de mettre en évidence la grande différence dans le régime en viande qui existe à Tours entre les élites religieuses, qui se nourrissent de pièces de viande de qualité, et le reste de la population, plus particulièrement les commerçants et artisans urbains, dont l’alimentation est marquée par une forte consommation d’abats
This research was conducted on the basis of over 64,000 bone remains from 39 chronostratigraphic units gathered from 7 sites located throughout the city of Tours and its immediate surroundings. The objective of this study was to use this unprecedented collection to size the economic, cultural and social dimensions of the city from the 14th to the 17th century through faunal remains. Thanks to the analysis of the proportions of species of animals eaten by age and gender, it is possible to define the main trends of meat supply in Tours over the period of time considered as well as to describe the many different ways of acquiring domestic and wild animals. In order to cater to its cattle need, Tours used local livestock bred for meat as well as milk and wool production. This research also sheds light on the industrial processing of beef carcasses (meat processing and fat collection). It is also possible to define the meat diet of city dwellers and of various social contexts of the city, highlighting for instance the difference in the meat diet of the religious elite, who ate prime cuts, and the rest of the population, more specifically city shopkeepers and craftsmen, whose diet mainly comprised of offal

Le phenomene historique des nouveaux martyrs releve du contexte urbain ottoman ou les classes populaires musulmanes s'opposent a l'ascension economique des dimmis d'un niveau economique equivalent au leur. Il peut aussi exprimer la reaction de la communaute musulmane essayant de s'opposer a la prise du pouvoir par la communaute chretienne orthodoxe. Cependant la categorie la plus representative du phenomene est celle des martyrs volontaires, anciens renegats dans leur majorite. Le martyr "malade d'amour" dans un etat d"ivresse spirituelle" recherche dans le martyre la rencontre definitive, l'union avec son bien-aime, le christ. De son cote, le sacre "personnel" y repond en le rendant veritablement present, beau et glorieux a travers le symbolisme fondamental de la lumiere. De ce fait, l'hierophanie n'est pas une simple manifestation de quelque chose de "tout-autre", elle est experience et ses incidences sur le sujet humain sont de nature aussi bien relationnelle qu'existentielle
The historical phenomenon of the new martyrs must be seen within the urban ottoman context in whisch the muslim working classes attempt to oppose the economic rise of the dimmis, their peers in economic terms. This phenomenon may also be said to express the reaction of the muslim community trying to oppose the coming to power of the christian orthodox community. However, the most representative category of this phenomenon is that of the volontary martyrs, former renegades for the most part. The martyr "sick with love" in a state of "spiritual intoxication" seeks in martyrdom the definitive encounter or union with the "personal" sacred answers by making the martyr truly present, beautiful and glorioux throught the fundamental symbolism of ligt. The hierophany is thereby not a mere manifestation of some thing "totaly different", it is experience and its effects on the human individual are of a relational as well as an existential nature

En prenant comme point d'horizon l'entrée du concept de travail mécanique dans la physique théorique par les ingénieurs-savants du début de 19e siècle (Coriolis et Navier notamment), cette thèse montre la filiation de ce concept vis-à-vis de démarches apparaissant à l'aube du 18e siècle à l'Académie Royale des Sciences de Paris, notamment dans les oeuvres d'Amontons et de Parent. La thèse montre alors comment et pourquoi le concept commence à se développer au premier 18e siècle dans cet environnement, comment il est ensuite repris, enrichi, modifié par Pitot, Bélidor, Desaguliers, D. Bernoulli, et comment au contraire ce concept semble ignoré de savants plus théoriciens tel que D'Alembert. Le rôle de la rupture de la vision statique de la machine semble déterminant. Apparaît alors la forte dépendance de ce concept aux problématiques qu'il permet de résoudre, axées sur la quantification et l'optimisation de l'effet des hommes, des animaux et des machines en situation laborieuse, et leurs comparaisons mutuelles dont l'une des finalités est la recherche du profit économique. L'histoire du concept se donne à voir comme une interface permanente entre mécanique théorique, mécanique pratique, et aspects productifs. On suggère alors que la légitimité du concept tient dans sa pertinence à rendre compte du travail des agents producteurs. Enfin, la thèse s'attache à recréer l'épaisseur du réel derrière les concepts et les problématiques, en montrant ce qu'ils doivent aux stratégies gouvernementales et aux pratiques d'ingénieurs.

Le memoire s'articule en six chapitres distincts. Dans le premier il est traite du syntagme nominal, notamment de quantification et de caracterisation. On y aborde successivement l'emploi des quantifiants numeriques, celui des caracterisants ordinaux, des caracterisants stricts et des quantificateurs. Dans les cinq chapitres suivants, on examine le fonctionnement d'un certain nombre de particules communement associees a la determination predicative; il s'agit des auxiliaires qi (futurite), wei (diathese), hui (deontique prescriptif), you (possessif, existentiel), et des particules de negation bu, fu, wu1, wu2, wang et fei. Pour chacune de ces particules on reprend brievement les donnees epigraphiques et rappelle les precedentes analyses grammaticales. Lorsque cela est possible, et a titre d'illustration, on essaye de degager le fonctionnement de ces memes unites dans les textes ulterieurs (les inscriptions sur bronze et les ecrits canoniques)
The dissertation is divided in six different chapters. The first one concerns the nominal syntagma, and treatsnotably the problem of quantification and characterisation. Uses of numeric quantifiers ordinal characterisers and quantifiers are succesively considered. In the last five chapters, we examine the functionnement of a few particles generally associated to the predicative determination; successively : qi (auxiliary of futurity), wei (auxiliary of diathesis) hui (deontic prescriptive auxiliary), you (existential possessive auxiliary) and the negation particles bu, fu, wu1, wu2, wang and fei. For each of these particles, we quote concisely the epigraphical facts and earlier grammatical analysies. When it is possible, we try to explain, as illustration, the functionnement of the same particles in the later documents (bronze inscriptions and canonic texts of the zhou period)

Neste trabalho, investigou-se o espalhamento elástico 16O+12C, considerando o efeito da troca de uma partícula alfa entre o projétil e o alvo que conduz aos mesmos núcleos do canal de entrada (transferência elástica). Foram analisadas distribuições angulares em uma faixa de energias que, no referencial de centro de massa, vai de 8,55 MeV até 56,57 MeV. A barreira coulombiana desse sistema está em torno de 11MeV. Foram realizadas medidas de distribuição angular das reações de transferência elástica e inelástica no sistema 16O+12C, em Elab = 46, 26 MeV. A análise dessas medidas forneceu os fatores espectroscópicos, 12C+_alfa _ 16O, do estado fundamental e dos estados excitados J_ = 2+ e J_ = 1, ambos logo abaixo do limiar de emissão alfa, em 7,16 MeV. A partir do valor da amplitude espectroscópica do estado J_ = 2+, determinou-se um valor confiável para o Coeficiente de Normalização Assintótica, 1,05± 0,13(105 fm1/2), este valor foi usado para calcular a largura reduzida desse estado e realizando um cálculo de matriz R determinou-se o fator S astrofísico em energias em torno do pico de Gamow, S(E2)=37keVb.
The 16O+12C elastic scattering was investigated considering the effect of exchange of an alpha particle between projectile and target leading to the same nuclei of the entrance channel (elastic transfer). Angular distributions were analyzed in an energy range from 8.55 MeV to 56.57 MeV in the center of mass frame. The Coulomb barrier is around 11MeV for this system. Measurements of angular distributions of elastic and inelastic transfer reactions to states of the 16O in the 16O+12C system were performed at Elab = 46, 26MeV. Those measurements provided the spectroscopic factors of 12C+_ 16O for the ground state and for J_ = 2+ and J_ = 1 16O excited states, both just below the _-threshold at 7.16 MeV. The Asymptotic Normalization Coefficient (ANC) for the J_ = 2+ state was obtained (1.05 ±0,13(105 fm1/2)) and used to calculate the reduced width of this state, with this value a R-matrix calculation was performed to determine the astrophysical S-factor in energies around the Gamow peak, S(E2)=37keVb.

Control of hemostatic parameters of patients undergoing surgery usually involves only determination of parameters of the coagulation cascade, but not measurement of primary hemostasis. This has mainly methodological reasons. Recently a model of primary hemostasis has been introduced (Kratzer & Bom, Haemostasis 15:357; 1985) now produced under the name “ Thrombostat 4000” (VDG von der Goltz, 8221 Seeon, West Germany). This device measures computerized within minutes “ in vitro” bleeding parameters (vBP) like bleeding volume (V,ul), time (T,sec) and the viscosity depending initial flow (IF,ul/min) in a small sample (0.5-lml) of whole anticoagulated blood (Na citrate 1 to 10). The clinical relevance of the vBP was tested in patients undergoing major surgery.Results : Case 1: A 78 years old woman with osteomyelosarcoma, heavy bleeding and normal coagulation parametrs showed strongly pathological vBP: (V > 800, T > 300, IF 184); control values: (V = 177, T = 105, IF = 145); An improvement of beeding and shortening of vBP was observed after infusion of platelet concentrate: (V = 328, T = 245, IF = 147).Case 2: A 60 years old man with adenocarcinoma undergoing liver transplantation, before operation (OP) vBP: (V = 224, T = 114, IF = 182); displayed a strong increase during OP: (V > 800, T = 360, IF = 277; decreasing values after Oft (V = 348, T = 146, IF = 254); 1. day after OP: (V = 250, T = 127, IF = 221); 13 day after OP normal vBft (V = 160, T = 111, IF 182).Case 3: A 35 years old man with III. grade burnings of the skin (35%) and a massive platelet function defect: (V > 800, T > 180, IF = 328); improvement after infusion of platelet concentrate: (V = 393, T = 164, IF = 239); further improvement some hours later: (V = 240, T = 120, IF = 213); and normalizing of parameters at the 1. day: (V = 197, T = 126, IF = 186) and the 5. day after OP: (V = 130, T = 122, IF = 142).It is interesting to note that patients with heavy burnings reguarly displayed reduced vBP: (V = 120, T = 70, IF = 127) if measured very early after the accident. The Transfusion Safety Study is collecting data concerning the transmission of transfusion-acquired infections from patients with congenital hematologic disorders to household members. Of 233 patients for whom information is presently available, 128 (55%) were anti-HIV-positive. The 128 positive patients lived in 123 households with 174 members; 16 contacts were positive by EIA and immunoblot.These data provide further evidence of relatively high risk of HIV infection of sexual contacts. The three anti-HIV-positive children are all infants born to anti-HIV-positive wivesof infected hemophiliacs. Passively acquired antibody has not been excluded for two; the third was positive at ten months of age. Thus, vertical transmission may be a very important mechanism of perpetuating the HIV reservoir.

Visible, red emitting vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) [1] in the wavelength regime between 650 and 780 nm are very attractive light sources in low cost optical interconnects with on polymer optical fibers (POFs). We have fabricated GaAs-based 780 nm emission wavelength VCSELs using solid source MBE and p-type Carbon doping. Single layer 30 nm thick oxide apertures provide current and optical confinement. We employ 120 μm core diameter POF (Toray PGR-FB 125) because conventional POFs have core diameters between 0.25 and 3 mm making them impractical for high density optical interconnects with transmitter and receiver array pitch sizes of 250 μm or less [2].

Целью исследования было изучить кардио-респираторную координацию (КРК) в велоэргометрическом тесте у пловцов по сравнению с лыжниками. В исследовании приняли участие 17 пловцов и 17 лыжников в возрасте 13-16 лет, имеющих взрослый спортивный разряд. КРК оценивали методом главных компонент по временным рядам частоты сердечных сокращений и дыхательных параметров. Установлено, что КРК вовремя велоэргометрической нагрузки не отличалась у пловцов и лыжников. На первом этапе восстановления КРК у лыжников выше. На втором этапе восстановления различия между группами нивелировались. Систолическое артериальное давление выше у пловцов, чем у лыжников. Парциальное давление углекислого газа в конце выдоха у пловцов ниже, чем у лыжников. Ключевые слова: кардио-респираторная координация, пловцы, лыжники, велоэргометрия, артериальное давление, парциальное давление углекислого газа в конце выдоха.

We describe several individuals with abnormal platelet glycoprotein lib (GPIIb) of different molecular weight (MW), a novel defect in that previously reported thrombasthenics have not shown GPIIb molecules of abnormal MW. Patient 1 shows 2 bands of GPIIb (one with normal MW and one with abnormal MW) in SDS-PAGE (lectin and antibody staining). This patient has a mild bleeding tendency, and her platelets did not aggregate in response to ADP (2-10 μM) and had severely depressed collagen induced aggregation ,but responded normally to ristocetin. The MW of the abnormal GPIIb band was calculated to be 122 KDa (compared to the 129 kDa of normal GPIIb) in non-reduced SDS-PAGE; the MW was 128 kDa (compared to the normal 118 kDa) in reduced SDS-PAGE. The amount of each GPIIb band, calculated from densitometry, was approximately 35% for the GPIIb of abnormal MW and 20% for the normal MW GPIIb, relative to the amounts of GPIIb found in normal individuals. Assays of fibrinogen binding to the patient`s platelets indicate that they contain 25% of the fibrinogen receptor as compared to normal platelets. Crossed immunoelectrophoresis showed the formation of the GPIIb/IIIa complex, which was found to consist mostly of normal MW GPIIb and GPIIIa. The patient's father showed decreased aggregability in response to ADP, and his platelets also contained abnormal and normal GPIIb. The father's platelets, however, contained about 50% normal GPIIb as compared to normal platelets, and his platelets have about 50% the number of fibrinogen receptors compared to normal platelets. From these results, the patient was suggested to have heterozygous GPIIb molecules, and the observed defects in aggregability would be attributable to the decrease of normal GPIIb to 20-30% of the normal level. Quite recently, we found another thrombasthenic individual who has homozygous abnormal GPIIb molecules. Electrophoretic mobilities of his abnormal GPIIb on SDS-PAGE indicated that the abnormal GPIIb's were very similar between the 2 cases, and two-dimensional, unreduced-reduced SDS-PAGE suggested that the abnormal GPIIb consists of a single chain.

Electrochemical measurements have been performed on polished and mill scaled steel samples. The solutions investigated have included carbonate bicarbonate mixtures of varying pH as well as solutions of neutral pH such as NS4. Results indicate that the mechanism of corrosion associated with the carbonate bicarbonate environments involves passive film formation. No such passivation is observed for solutions associated with neutral pH SCC. Electrochemical corrosion rates measured on polished steel specimens exposed to NS4 solutions in the pH range 5 to 6.8 were in the region of 5 x 10e-1 to 1 x 10e-2 mm/s. However, rates obtained on mill scaled surfaces went much lower and in the region of 5 x 10e-10 mm/s. Field determined crack propagation rates are estimated to be in the region of 2 x 10e-8 mm/s. Whilst the laboratory determined corrosion rates are lower than the field propagation rate it should be remembered that the laboratory rates were obtained on unstressed specimens. The application of load would be expected to increase the corrosion rate and may indicate that stress focused dissolution process may be sufficient to explain the propagation of neutral pH stress corrosion cracks. However, as hydrogen evolution is the most likely cathodic reaction involved in the mechanism of neutral pH SCC the role of hydrogen in the crack propagation mechanism may also be important.

A thermowell design standard published by ASME was recently updated to incorporate new knowledge about dynamic loads on thermowells and other factors affecting thermowell integrity and measurement accuracy. There are concerns that assumptions in the ASME standard may cause significant measurement inaccuracies or conservative designs that require significant changes to natural gas installations. To avoid thermowell damage and measure natural gas temperatures accurately, pipeline operators have requested additional guidance on thermowell design and installation. This study investigated current thermowell standards and research to provide PRCI members, meter station designers, and the natural gas industry with guidelines to design thermowells that meet accuracy and integrity requirements. Relevant design requirements from ASME and other thermowell standards were examined to summarize and compare insertion length requirements, recommended materials, and guidance for temperature accuracy. Research publications were reviewed for experimental data to identify design parameters that affect thermowell integrity and measurement accuracy, and to determine whether separate natural gas design guidelines could be developed or whether modifications should be recommended to the ASME procedure. Priority was given to experimental results over analytical and computational data. The review also focused on thermowell performance in natural gas at transmission pipeline conditions, defined here as pressures up to 1,800 psig (124 barg) and flow velocities up to 125 ft/s (38 m/s). Key design parameters were identified that can be used as a starting point for a natural gas thermowell design and installation procedure. A gap analysis identified further research needs for thermowell performance in natural gas service.

A numerical, two-dimensional hydrodynamic model of the Mississippi River, from Thebes, IL, to Tiptonville, TN (128 miles/206 km), was developed using the Adaptive Hydraulics model. The study objective assessed current patterns and flow distributions and their possible impacts on navigation due to Birds Point New Madrid Floodway (BPNMF) operations and the Len Small (LS) levee break. The model was calibrated to stage, discharge, and velocity data for the 2011, 2015–2016, and 2017 floods. The calibrated model was used to run four scenarios, with the BPNMF and the LS breach alternately active/open and inactive/closed. Effects from the LS breach being open are increased river velocities upstream of the breach, decreased velocities from the breach to Thompson Landing, no effects on velocity below the confluence, and cross-current velocities greater than 3.28 ft/s (1.0 m/s) within 1186.8 ft (60 m) of the bankline revetment. Effects from BPNMF operation are increased river velocities above the confluence, decreased velocities from the BPNMF upper inflow crevasse (Upper Fuseplug) to New Madrid, cross-current velocities greater than 1.5 ft/s (0.5 m/s) only near the right bank where flow re-enters the river from the BPNMF lower inflow/outflow crevasse Number 2 (Lower Fuseplug) and St. Johns Bayou.

More than 15,000 anthers of an interspecific hybrid (CP2) between two diploid (2n=2x=24) potato species, Solanum chacoense (weedy) and S. phureja (cultivated), were cultured to generate a family of monoploid (haploid, 2n-1x=12) plants. Of 260 regenerated plants, 34 were monoploid, 210 diploid and 16 tetraploid. SSR analysis revealed that six monoploids were genetically identical and 14 diploids were homozygous, thus limiting the population to 42 (28 monoploids and 14 homozygous diploids). New microsatellite loci were developed for potato from database sequences (15), a conventional genomic library (6), an enriched library (18) and tomato (11). Of these, 13 were polymorphic in the CP2 family and 11 were used to study genetic segregatin. Four of 11 exhibited skewed segregation in the monoploid family. Seven of 18 microsatellite markers were polymorphic and informative on a set of 12 tetraploid potato cultivars. Acetylleptinidine (ALD) is the aglycone of leptines, a natural defense against insects, especially the highly destructuve Colorado potato beetle. ALD is absend in S. phureja but highly expressed in the S. chacoense parent of CP2. A backcross population between CP2 and tis S. phureja parent was used to examine segregation for ALD. Bulks of 10 backcross individuals that expressed ALD and 10 that did not were used to identify putative RAPD markers associatd with the trait. Of 80 primers tested, one putative marker amplified by OPQ02 was present in eight of ten individuals comprising the high bulk and absent in all 10 individuals comprising the low bulk. This is a putative marker for ALD expression in potato.

Evaluated the typical Gulf of Mexico pipelay barges and assess their ability to install 8 to 20-inch diameter pipelines in water depths ranging from 1000 ft to 3000 ft. McDermott's LB-29 and DB-28, Global Pipelines PLUS' Cherokee, and OPI's DLB-423 were evaluated. Allseas' the North Sea dynamically positioned lay vessel Lorelay was also evaluated for comparison. Pipe wall thicknesses to satisfy buckle propagation, collapse, and stability criteria were determined, and the results were used to select wall thicknesses for 8, 12, 16, and 20-inch nominal pipe diameters in water depths of 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, and 3000 feet. The selected wall thickness and diameters were then used as inputs for a finite element model to determine stinger and tensioner requirements for each vessel. Each vessel's mooring system was analyzed to assure satisfactory performance, after taking into account pipe-induced tensions and environmental loads resulting from a 1.5-knot current and a 30-knot wind. Mooring system upgrading options include the use of anchor chains or additional mooring line pendants. The scope of work did not include dynamic pipe stress, dynamic mooring system analysis, vessel motions analysis, or move-up analysis.
