Анотація:
Parenting styles can influence youthful offenders on academic achievement, behaviours and truancy. The studys objectives were to identify parenting styles used by guardians on youthful offenders in borstal institutions in Kenya, to establish behavioral problems exhibited in students due to parenting styles in borstal institutions in Kenya and to analyze academic achievement of youthful offenders in borstal institutions in Kenya. Respondents to the research were selected using the simple random technique through the Krejcie and Morgan formular table. Since the purpose of the study was to identify parenting styles used by guardians on youthful offenders in borstal institutions in Kenya, stakeholders including students, parents, prison warders, counsellors, social workers and administrators constituted the sample population. Data was collected using questionnaires, interview schedules and focus group discussions before being presented in tables. The data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Statisticsversion 20. Primary and secondary sources were also used in the study. Findings indicated that more pupil responses showed that behaviours adopted by youthful offenders were a result of parenting styles. Neglectful parenting resulted in increase of bad behavior. Absentee parenting was the leading cause of poor academic achievement. Recommendations of this study include review of policy of the Education Act toaddress academic achievement problems in borstal institutions. Parenting styles should be discussed and taught in both primary and secondary school.Future research should focus on parents cultural beliefs and practice influence on youthful offenders academic achievement.

Анотація:
The main objective of the present study focused on the role of education in achieving the level of self-actualization and self-transcendence among inmates. The inmates were in the sensitive age of their life. They should be exposed to academic education rather than violence and the appropriate place for them is the school and not the prison. The present research was a quantitative study. The universe of the present study was the Industrial Schools, YOIS (Youthful Offenders Industrial School) in Karachi. Purposive sampling method has been applied because this form of sampling generally considers the respondents with common characteristics, untypical and deviant behavior that tries to figure out where such individuals can be found and then allows the researcher might decide to go to certain street or to a particular bar to study them. The respondents were 120 inmates, the entire population which was interviewed purposively. The data was collected through structured questionnaire and analyzed through SPSS. The major findings showed the impact of education is helpful to improve the present status and act as a predictor in satisfying the needs assessment for self-actualization and self-transcendence to make these delinquents useful and potential being when they leave the industrial school.

Education is regarded as an avenue for success while the under-educated are disproportionately more likely to be incarcerated and remain within the correctional system. Current prison reforms have focused on increasing access to educational programming. However, these programs are not designed to address the lack of control, poor self-regulation, low emotional intelligence, inadequate social skills, or lack of internal motivation that hinder progress. Art therapy has been found effective in mitigating these impediments. Recognizing this, a partnership arose between a state Department of Corrections and a State University’s graduate art therapy program out of which emerged an Art Therapy in Prisons Program, funded through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Two art therapists provided services to youthful male and female offenders in four institutions to assuage these obstacles. This article explores the genesis and development of this program, and the flexible adjustments required to address the impending COVID-19. We conclude how those who participated did indeed demonstrate improvement.

Анотація:
Determinants of child Labour use among rural household crop farmers in Anambra State of Nigeria were studied. A multistage random sampling technique was used to select one hundred (100) respondents for the detailed study. A structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents for the study. Percentage response was used to capture objective i and iii. Objective ii was capture using Probit model analysis. The result showed that majority of the respondents were married, youthful, had moderate household size, educated and highly experienced in farming. The determinant factors to the use of child labour among rural household were relationship between the child and household heads, access to credit and educational level. The major operations accomplished by the children in the study area were bird scaring, fertilizer application and planting. The child right act should be enforced by appropriate government agencies and the offenders brought to book, free education to all children and social mobilization on change of attitude to use of child labour were recommended.
