The correspondence from Henryk Sienkiewicz to Konrad Dobrski from the years 1865–1866 records reflections of the future author of The Trilogy on his one year’s stay as a tutor to the Weyher family (Ludwik, his uncle, and Aleksandra) in Poświętne near Płońsk. There Sienkiewicz met various people. Their identities are established in the article on the basis of hitherto unused archival sources in the form of corrections and factual additions to the 1977 edition of letters. The unflattering remarks about the Weyhers and the guests staying at their house show Sienkiewicz’s critical attitude towards the conformist life of landowners, to whom he gives the worst possible testimony. The text attempts to explain the reasons and contexts of such an attitude of the young Sienkiewicz. This attempt is preceded by an inquiry into the reasons behind Sienkiewicz’s decision to take a gap year in education and accept gainful employment away from his own family.

AbstractThe small town of Weyer is located in Upper Austria on the B121 Weyerer Straße. The B121 leads through the historic market square of Weyer, which is characterised by confusing bottlenecks that can only be passed in one lane. For decades, these bottlenecks have caused congestion, mainly due to heavy traffic. For residents, the burden of air pollution and noise is high. The roads department of the Upper Austrian Government has been planning the construction of a bypass for many years. Construction finally started in the summer of 2022. The Weyer bypass construction lot is 1.2 km long and includes the construction of two NATM tunnels, a vertical escape shaft, a bridge over the river Dürnbach, two roundabouts, and one traffic junction. The tunnel construction works are carried out in urban areas, in loose material with little overburden and partly under existing buildings. These boundary conditions make the project a challenge for all involved at every stage.

Mais de quel Nord s’agit-il, puisque le Nord, c’est un très vaste espace, mal délimité, aux frontières changeantes? Le Nord correspond notamment à des rigueurs du climat et du paysage, à de grands espaces inoccupés, à la nature sauvage, à un grand silence blanc… Chez Constantin-Weyer, l’action se déroule-t-elle vraiment dans le Nord? L’auteur y a-t-il transposé son expérience du Nord ou est-ce le fruit de son imaginaire et de ses nombreuses lectures? Constantin-Weyer a vécu au Canada, dans la région de Saint-Claude (Manitoba), de 1903 à 1914. On peut sans aucun doute affirmer que Constantin-Weyer n’a pas du tout voyagé dans les espaces de son oeuvre de fiction, malgré toute la légende qui l’entoure dans les milieux littéraires en France, mais il a fait entrer l’Ouest et le Nord canadiens dans la littérature d’expression française.

A new setup for an inverted rotating disk electrode (IRDE) was developed for the investigation of photoassisted or photoelectrochemical processes involving mass transfer reactions, as in electrodeposition or etching processes. In this setup, rotation of the disk electrode is achieved by magnetic coupling between a driver magnet (i.e. a magnetic stirrer) and the follower magnet included in the sample holder. For photoelectrochemical experiments, the cell allows a homogeneous illumination and removal of gaseous reaction products, while still providing leak tightness. In this way, controlled flow conditions are provided with the possibility to simultaneously illuminate the sample surface from a distance as small as 20 mm. At the same time gases formed during the reaction can easily ascend through the electrolyte. The light source is placed on top of the cell and illumination is done through the electrolyte. A low liquid level (≥ 15 mm) allows a small distance between the sample and the light source and therefore a high light intensity on the sample surface. Illumination is done using a high-power LED. Due to the high power, thermal effects need to be taken into consideration and especially an effective cooling of the LED is essential. As a wide band gap semiconductor, silicon carbide (SiC) has gained large interest due to its high chemical and physical stability. Since photoassisted anodic etching of n-type 4H silicon carbide in potassium hydroxide solutions [1] requires both UV illumination and the removal of gaseous reaction products, this reaction is investigated in the newly developed IRDE setup. Possible applications for such a process are defect decoration [2], trench etching, and dicing. Photoassisted anodic etching of n-type SiC occurs in three steps: (1) hole generation in the material through illumination with light with an energy higher than the bandgap of the semiconductor (2) oxidation of silicon and carbon through the holes driven to the semiconductor-electrolyte interface by an external potential and (3) dissolution of the oxidation products in the electrolyte. In accordance with the three steps of the reaction, different processes can be limiting: For low light intensities (either through a large distance between the sample and the LED or through low driving currents through the LED) the number of photon-induced holes is limiting. At low electrolyte concentrations, the transport of hydroxyl ions and the dissolution of the oxidation products determine the etch rate. For high light intensities and high electrolyte concentrations, the external potential and thereby the oxidation reaction are limiting for the overall current flow. These different reaction regimes can be distinguished in cyclic voltammetry measurements in the newly developed IRDE cell. [1] D. H. van Dorp und J. J. Ammonoids of the subfamily Paratornoceratinae are characterised by disc-shaped adult conchs; furthermore they display a wide range of ontogenetic pathways leading to a similar adult conch morphology. The subfamily Paratornoceratinae occurs in the late early Famennian shelf sediments of various regions from the Anti-Atlas of Morocco to the Canning Basin of Western Australia; where endemic species of the genera Paratornoceras and Acrimeroceras appear in stratigraphic succession. We revise the species Paratornoceras lentiforme (Sandberger, 1857) and describe the new species Paratornoceras thuringense Korn, Bartzsch & Weyer n. sp., P. harounense Korn & Ebbighausen n. sp., P. ayense Korn & Buchwald n. sp., P. peterseni Korn & Buchwald n. sp., Acri meroceras hoppeckense Korn & Buchwald n. sp., A. ropicense Korn, Bartzsch & Weyer n. sp. and A. saalense Korn, Bartzsch & Weyer n. sp.

Karagandoceratids are a rare offshoot of the Prionoceratinae, resembling that subfamily in general conch form and sutural ontogeny, but differing by possession of an acute ventral margin and an increasingly trifid ventral lobe. The systematic position of the Karagandoceratidae has been controversial [see Bartzsch and Weyer (1988) for an exhaustive review]. The nominate genus, Karagandoceras Librovitch, 1940 (type species, K. galeatum), possesses a weakly divided ventral lobe which has led authors to refer it to both the Praeglyphioceratina (Ruzhencev, 1960, 1962; Bogoslovsky, 1971; Ruzhencev and Bogoslovskaya, 1978; Bogoslovskaya et al., 1999; Kusina, 2000) and the Goniatitina (Weyer, 1965, 1972; Kullmann, 1981). Discovery of an ancestral karagandoceratid genus, gen. nov. I aff. Karagandoceras Bartzsch and Weyer, 1988, in the early Tournaisian Siphonodella sandbergi conodont Zone in Germany provided clarification on the proximate origin of Karagandoceras and provided a plausible link to the early Tournaisian prionoceratin genus Nicimitoceras Korn, 1993 (type species, Imitoceras subacre Vöhringer, 1960). Bartzsch and Weyer (1988) proposed a karagandoceratid phylogeny beginning with gen. nov. I aff. Karagandoceras in the early Tournaisian, progressing through Karagandoceras in the middle Tournaisian, and culminating with a third, descendent genus, gen. nov. II aff. Karagandoceras (typical species, Karagandoceras bradfordi Manger, 1971), early in the late Tournaisian. Bartzsch and Weyer (1988) elected to leave both the initial and final members of this lineage, gen. nov. I and gen. nov. II aff. Karagandoceras, in open nomenclature pending discovery of more completely preserved material. Discovery of superbly preserved representatives of a new species of gen. nov. II aff. Karagandoceras from the Borden Formation in northeastern Kentucky provides additional sutural and morphological details that support Bartzsch and Weyer's phylogenetic interpretation and makes formal description of this terminal karagandoceratid taxon (herein designated Masonoceras new genus) possible.

The genus Cissia Doubleday, 1848 is revised and its monophyly is tested using Maximum Likelihood analysis based on three genes (COI, GAPDH and RpS5). A new taxonomic arrangement is proposed based on molecular and morphological evidence, and Cissia now comprises six species, C. penelope (Fabricius, 1775), C. pompilia (C. Felder & R. Felder, 1867), C. proba (Weymer, 1911), C. eous (Butler, 1867) comb.n., C. phronius (Godart, 1824) comb.n. and C. rubricata (W.H. Edwards, 1871) comb.n., distributed from the Southern US to Argentina. The remaining species previously treated in Cissia are here cited as “Cissia” until they can be removed to undescribed genera in upcoming papers. Euptychia moneta Weymer, 1911, E. austera Butler, 1867 and Paryphthimoides kiliani Anken, 1999 are new synonyms of Cissia penelope, C. pompilia and C. eous, respectively. Neotypes of Euptychia moneta, Satyrus phronius and Neonympha rubricata are designated, as well as the lectotypes of Neonympha pompilia, N. thelete Snellen, 1887, Euptychia usitata Butler, 1867, E. pieria Butler, 1867, E. erigone f. proba Weymer, 1911 and E. eous. The results confirm that is possible to distinguish most of the species of Cissia based on both morphological and molecular data, althougth C. rubricata shows some differences in the male genitalia compared to its sibling species.

Representatives of the Prodromitidae are characterized by relatively large (up to 150 mm diameter) lenticular conchs with acute ventral keels and complex multilobate sutural configurations. The systematic position of the Prodromitidae has been the subject of considerable speculation (see Work et al., 1988 for review). The nominate genus, Prodromites Smith and Weller, 1901 (type species, Goniatites gorbyi Miller, 1891), is not typical and represents the culmination of the lineage, showing characters which have led authors to refer it to both the Gephuroceratina (Ruzhencev, 1960, 1962, 1965; Bogoslovsky, 1969; Ruzhencev and Bogoslovskaya, 1978) and the Prolecanitina (Miller and Collinson, 1951; Weyer, 1972; Furnish and Manger, 1973; Kullmann, 1981; Bartzsch and Weyer, 1988; Kullmann et al., 1991). Discovery of an ancestral prodromitid genus, Eoprodromites Work, Mapes, and Thompson, 1988 (type species, E. kinderhooki), in the Hannibal Shale of northeastern Missouri provided clarification on the derivation of Prodromites and provided a link to yet a third enigmatic genus, Qiannanites Ruan, 1981 (type species, Q. acutus). Work et al. (1988) concluded that the Prodromitidae were prolecanitid offshoots that appeared in the early Tournaisian with Qiannanites, progressed through Eoprodromites, and climaxed with Prodromites early in the late Tournaisian. Although aspects of sutural ontogenesis, conch morphology, and stratigraphic distribution unite these genera, subsequently obtained specimens of Eoprodromites kinderhooki provide additional sutural and morphological details (Figs. 1, 2) that support derivation from the prionoceratacean subfamily Pseudarietitinae Bartzsch and Weyer, 1987, as more recently suggested by Becker (1993a, p. 471).

(oberes Lochkovium, Yukon-Gebiet), <i>Muenstraia thuringica</i> n. sp. (Pragium, Thüringisches Schiefergebirge und Tafilalt). The ‘aegrota species group’ of the Neotropical nymphalid genus Caeruleuptychia Forster, 1964, in addition to three other superficially similar, enigmatic species in the genus, are revised. A lectotype is designated for Euptychia aegrota Butler, 1867, E. aetherialis Butler, 1877 stat. rev., E. helios Weymer, 1911 and E. pilata Butler, 1867, and C. aetherialis is resurrected from its synonymy with C. aegrota. Caeruleuptychia helios caelestissima Brévignon, 2010, syn. nov., and Magneuptychia keltoumae Brévignon & Benmesbah, 2012, syn. nov. are both regarded as junior subjective synonyms of C. helios (Weymer, 1911), as a result of the discovery and first illustration of the female of this taxon. The female of C. aegrota is also described and illustrated for the first time, and three new species, C. trembathi Willmott, Nakahara, Hall & Neild, sp. nov., C. scripta Nakahara, Zacca & Huertas, sp. nov., and C. maryzenderae Lamas & Nakahara, sp. nov. are described and named. We analyze morphological and molecular data separately, in addition to combining morphological data with molecular data, to provide the first phylogenetic hypothesis for the taxa treated in this revision.

Анотація:
The first cladistic analysis of the genus Pampasatyrus Hayward, 1953 is presented based on morphological evidence. The monophyly of Pampasatyrus is corroborated with previous molecular hypothesis, and supported by two synapomorphies and six homoplastic characters. Haywardella Herrera, 1966 stat. rest. is recovered as sister group of Pampasatyrus, and both are closely related to a clade composed by Argyrophorus Blanchard, 1852, Etcheverrius Herrera, 1965 and Quilaphoethosus Herrera, 1966. Furthermore, three new subspecies are described: Pampasatyrus gyrtone biezankoi Zacca, Pyrcz, Mielke & Casagrande, ssp. n. from southern Brazil, Pampasatyrus reticulata gagarini Zacca, Pyrcz, Mielke & Casagrande, ssp. n. from São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Pampasatyrus glaucope eberti Pyrcz & Zacca, ssp. n. from São Paulo, Brazil. Neotypes to Faunula johanna Weymer, 1911 and Neomaenas reticulata Weymer, 1907 are herein designated. Lectotypes to Epinephele gyrtone Berg, 1877, Cosmosatyrus nilesi Weeks, 1902, Epinephele friedenreichi Staudinger, 1888 and Satyrus quies Berg, 1877 are also designated. A catalogue, diagnosis, illustrations, photos and distributional maps are provided for all the taxa, including an identification key.

Skeletal dysplasias are a heterogenous group of disorders combining abnormalities in the skull and other skeletal bones. Weyers acrofacial dysostosis also known as Weyers acrodental dysostosis was first described in 1952, by Weyers, as a postaxial polydactyly, which had features distinct from, yet some in common with the Ellis-van Creveld Syndrome (EvC). Both the syndromes have been mapped to the same chromosome, 4p16. The cases reported here highlight the overlapping features of both syndromes, which are dissimilar in mode of inheritance and phenotypic severity, emphasizing the need for genetic analysis, to categorize these conditions.

Objetivos: Comparar la precisión de las fórmulas antropométricas de Watson, Hume-Weyers, y el basado en el porcentaje del peso según sexo, para estimar el agua corporal total en relación a la medida por bioimpedancia eléctrica considerando ésta como gold standard. Material y métodos: Se enrolaron 17 voluntarios sanos entre 21 a 29 años de edad, con antropometría normal y en condiciones de vida cotidiana. Para evaluar la precisión en la estimación del agua corporal se usó la t de Student pareada y para estimar el error sistemático se usó el análisis de regresión lineal y la correlación de Pearson. Resultados: El agua corporal promedio según la bioimpedancia eléctrica fue 35,46 ± 6,71 litros y según fórmulas de Watson 37,28 ± 7,10 litros; de Hume-Weyers 36,46 ± 5,83 litros y según el peso y sexo fue 36,88 ± 7,47 litros. En el análisis pareado la fórmula de Watson subestimó el agua corporal total, pero todas tuvieron buena correlación lineal con la bioimpedancia. La fórmula de Humes-Weyers mostró un menor error sistemático con respecto a la bioimpedancia. Conclusiones: Este estudio mostró que la fórmula de Hume-Weyers es la que brinda mayor precisión en la estimación del agua corporal.

El trabajo se adentra en la construcción del espacio colonial español en el Golfo de Guinea a través del concurso de 1905 para la adjudicación del Muni. Este es habitualmente presentado como el proyecto de Valeriano Weyler. Sin embargo, la autoría intelectual recae en Enrique D’Almonte, antiguo funcionario colonial en Filipinas, miembro de la Sociedad Geográfica de Madrid y persona plenamente identificada con el discurso colonial español en África. A pesar de que la única propuesta admitida es la de Weyler, la subasta no llega a adjudicar el Muni a una compañía. Este trabajo no confronta por tanto lo que se pensó con lo que se realizó. Se esfuerza por entender qué conocimientos geográficos son los que confluyen en la propuesta elaborada por D’Almonte y de qué manera se ponen al servicio del proyecto colonial. El conocimiento que se moviliza bebe fundamentalmente de los relatos de exploración del Muni. A su vez, es un conocimiento asimétrico: adquiere textura y detalle para el litoral de la Guinea continental y el espacio más inmediato a él, pero se muestra genérico para el interior y este de la colonia. Las fuentes primarias utilizadas provienen del Fondo África del Archivo General de la Administración. En él está depositada la documentación de la subasta del Muni.

Das anschließend untersuchte erste Kapitel stellt Thedor Weydes Wahrnehmungsstörungen und seinen zunehmenden Wirklichkeitsverlust anhand medizinischer Fachliteratur dar. Anhand dieser Fallbeispiele wird abschließend festgehalten, dass beide Texte Pathologien des Scheiterns an der Wirklichkeit nachzeichnen.

Material y métodos: Se enroló a 13 voluntarios sanos con edad entre 21 a 29 años, asintomáticos y con índice masa corporal (IMC) mayor de 25. Se evaluó la precisión en estimar el agua corporal en relación con la impedancia eléctrica de cada individuo con la t de Student apareada, y para estimar el error sistemático se utilizó análisis de regresión lineal. Resultados: El agua corporal promedio según la impedancia eléctrica fue 39,7 ± 6,49 litros y según las fórmulas de Watson 42,66 ± 7,40; Hume-Weyers 40,51 ± 6,31, peso y sexo 45,90 ± 8,80 y peso ideal y sexo 39,90 ± 6,10 litros, respectivamente. La fórmula de Hume-Weyers y la estimación en función del peso ideal estimaron sin error significativo el agua medida por impedancia. Sin embargo, todas tuvieron buena correlación lineal con la impedancia. Conclusiones: La fórmula de Hume-Weyers y el cálculo del agua corporal según el peso ideal mostraron mayor precisión en la estimación del agua corporal en jóvenes con sobrepeso y obesidad en relación con la medida por impedancia.

We describe a new species and a new subspecies of Euptychia Hübner, 1818 from Colombia and Peru: E. cesarense Pulido, Andrade, Peña & Lamas n. sp. and E. cesarense viloriai Andrade, Pulido, Peña & Lamas n. ssp. This new species resembles E. enyo Butler, 1867 and E. rufocincta Weymer, 1911 but shows clear differences in the wing markings, ocellus pattern and the male genitalia morphology. The new subspecies can be distinguished from the nominotypical subspecies described herein by differences in wing pattern coloration. The nominate subspecies occurs in northern Colombia, and E. c. viloriai is known from eastern Peru.

Modern views on the systematics of Pronoritidae are considered. The division of the family into two subfamilies, Pronoritinae and Neopronoritinae, proposed by Weyer (1972) is discussed, the composition and the phylogenetic relationships of Neopronoritinae are clarified. The endemic genus Shikhanites Ruzhencev is proposed to be a paedomorphic member of the subfamily Uddenitinae (family Medlicottiidae Karpinsky). The genera Neopronorites Ruzhencev and Sakmarites Ruzhencev were revised, based mainly on species of these genera from the Early Permian of the Shakhtau quarry (Bashkortostan). Of the 15 species previously assigned to the genus Neopronorites, 12 are recognized as valid, ten of them are Early Permian. The genus Sakmarites includes six species, three of which were found in Shakhtau.

The sequence of facts and dates relating to the repurchase and re-pawning of the diamonds mentioned in Pushkinʼs diary is contradicted by annotations to his diary and letters, by the “Annals” and the “Chronicle” of his life and work, as well as by studies of his fi nancial circumstances. This article restores the exact chronology of this episode in Pushkinʼs biography and clarifies the circumstances surrounding the events. Information concerning the poetʼs gambling debt to V. A small fauna of Tabulate corals, collected in the Visean of South-Western Portugal (Carrapateira-Bordeira area), is systematically described. The genera Sutherlandia Cocke & Bowsher 1968, Smythina Weyer 1970 and Cladochonus McCoy 1847 are for the first time reported from the Dinantian of Portugal. A similar association is known from the Culm facies of England and Germany. That confirms the close affinities between these regions and Portugal in the early Carboniferous. The growth habits of the corals suggest that the community was living on a soft muddy bottom. A comparison is proposed with the classical Tabulate coral fauna of Basleo, in the Permian of Timor.

Este artículo muestra la metodología desarrollada en la intervención parcial de una de las veneras de la fuente escultórica de la plaza Weyler (Santa Cruz de Tenerife). Labrada en mármol de Carrara, la pieza presentaba una serie de grietas, fracturas y fisuras que ponía en riesgo su estabilidad estructural, facilitaban las filtraciones e impedían la funcionalidad de la fuente. Igualmente, existía una actuación anterior inadecuada que ponía en riesgo la conservación de la pieza. Así, los tratamientos se ajustaron a la complejidad de la localización y volumen de la venera y se eliminaron elementos introducidos en dichas intervenciones anteriores. Las soluciones que proponemos han tenido en cuenta la naturaleza urbana, pública y funcional del bien para garantizar su correcta conservación.
