This study evaluated a community-driven animal health and management program in the remote community of Wadeye, Northern Territory. This evaluation used a pre-post design to assess changes in animal and human health outcomes over a 12-month period of program implementation, from June 2018 to June 2019. The evaluation assessed the program by comparing animal health outcomes before versus one year after program implementation and comparing human health outcomes before versus during the first 12 months of the program. Outcome measures included the desexing status of dogs and cats, body condition and hair score of dogs, and rates of people presenting to the health clinic for a dog bite. Animal health outcomes significantly improved after program implementation. From pre to post program, there was a 77% increase in the prevalence of good body condition score among dogs and a 9% increase in the prevalence of good hair score among dogs, and the prevalence of desexed dogs and cats more than doubled. There was no significant change in the number of people presenting to the health clinic for a dog bite. Consideration on how to further incorporate human and environmental health aspects into the program could be useful for future One Health programs.

The first in Russia large-scale study on the impact of hunting on wader populations was carried out in Kamchatka in 2019. The main research method was anonymous hunters questioning. In Kamchatka Krai, about 3.400 hunters take part in the wader hunt. Of the 402 hunters, who participated in the anonymous questioning, 55 % were hunting Whimbrels in the current season; 9 %, other large and medium-size wader species; 14 %, smaller waders. The total of about 45.000 waders are shot annually in Kamchatka, including 37.000 Whimbrels 1.600 waders of other large species, and 6 thousand waders of smaller species. From the species listed in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation, up to 20 Oystercatchers, 100 Far Eastern Curlews, 200 Bar-tailed Godwits, 300 Grater Knots, and 100 Red Knots are shot. Hunting smaller waders is not popular, but it causes the death of up to 12.000 thousand smaller waders, with Spoon-billed Sandpiper also occasionally killed. Special educational activities for hunters and hunting officers are required for conservation of wader populations included in the Red Data Books of the Russian Federation; first, a special field guide of waders in the Far East should be published. It is also necessary to restore the Moroshechnaya River sanctuary reserve, liquidated in 2009 yet included in the official list of areas of international importance for waders on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway.

SummaryMigratory wader populations face global threats, mainly related to increasing rates of habitat loss and disturbance driven by human activities. To a large extent, the long-term survival of these populations requires the conservation of networks of sites along their migratory flyways. The Tagus estuary, Portugal, is among the most important wetlands for waders in the East Atlantic Flyway. Annual winter wader counts have been carried in this wetland since 1975 and a monthly roost-monitoring programme was implemented in 2007. Wintering populations of three out of the five most abundant species, DunlinCalidris alpina, Grey PloverPluvialis squatarolaand RedshankTringa totanus, showed significant population declines over the past three decades, which are most likely due to the loss and degradation of roost sites as a result of increasing human activity. The situation is unlikely to improve, as a high proportion of the wintering waders use roost sites that are situated in highly urbanised areas with no legal protection. The use of different roost sites by waders is highly variable both temporally and spatially, thus emphasizing the need for a network of good quality roost sites. Additionally, during migration, 60–80% of all the waders of the Tagus estuary concentrate at a single refuge, thus increasing the risk for wader populations during these periods.

Agri-environment schemes have been implemented across Europe to counter biodiversity loss in agricultural landscapes and halt the continual decline of farmland birds, including waders. Such schemes provide financial compensation for changes in agricultural practice, including livestock grazing regimes. Scheme uptake has been variable, partly because farmers believe that other factors, notably predation, are key to wader population declines. On the basis of wader breeding surveys across Shetland, UK, we show that predator density and livestock grazing, through reducing sward height, interact to influence territoriality and thereby are likely to affect wader breeding success. Our results appear to reflect views of both farmers and government agencies, which indicates that future agri-environment schemes would benefit from genuine stakeholder participation to maximize scheme uptake, implementation and beneficial effects on biodiversity. Our findings also imply that agri-environment schemes will reap the greatest benefits for waders through reducing stocking rate where avian predators are abundant.

Wet grassland degradation is a global issue that involves both altered land cover patterns and ecological processes, which affect the distribution and abundance of species. The sharp decline in European wader bird (Charadrii) populations is a good example. The aim of this study is to test the hypothesis that the anthropogenic developmental stage of wet grassland habitats and landscapes drives avian nest predator abundance, and thus the predation pressure on nests, which is a major cause of wader bird declines. Using a macroecological approach we selected six wet grassland landscapes representing a gradient in both grassland habitat development and breeding wader population status in four European countries (Belarus, Iceland, Lithuania and Sweden). We (1) mapped wader and avian predator assemblages in multiple wet grassland patches in each landscape, (2) used artificial nests to estimate the relative rate of egg predation, and (3) analyzed relationships between nest predation pressure, corvid nest predators versus raptors, nest loss and the stage of wet grassland habitat and landscape development. We found (1) inverse relationships between the abundance of corvids and waders, as well as between wet grassland developmental stage and waders, and (2) a positive correlation between the probability of nest loss and the density of corvid birds. In conclusion, we found a clear macroecological pattern linking habitat quality, wader populations, nest predators and nest predation. These linkages stress the importance of including nest predation as a factor limiting wader bird populations, and that corvid control or management may be useful management tools.

The populations of South Australian duck and wader species have recently decreased considerably, but their abundance at Bolivar Wastewater Treatment Plant in metropolitan Adelaide is poorly known. To help assess the importance of this site for ducks and waders, we made 25 trips to Bolivar between December 2018 and July 2020, during most of which time south-eastern Australia was experiencing a long dry period. On each trip, we observed between 11 and 26 species of ducks and waders, with a mean total of 9804 (range 2437–15,653) individuals per trip. At times, we observed several thousand Pink-eared Ducks Malacorhynchus membranaceus, Grey Teal Anas gracilis, and Australian Shelducks Tadorna tadornoides, with occasionally up to 1200 Blue-billed Ducks Oxyura australis and 2000 Hardheads Aythya australis. Several wader species that largely breed in Australia’s semi-arid and arid zones were also observed, including occasionally >1000 Red-necked Avocets Recurvirostra novaehollandiae. Five species of waders that breed in the Northern Hemisphere were also recorded fairly regularly in the summer of both 2018–2019 and 2019–2020, including up to ~2000 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers Calidris acuminata, 2000 Red-necked Stints C. ruficollis and 150 Curlew Sandpipers C. ferruginea. These observations indicate that this wastewater treatment plant is a critically important refuge site for several species of ducks and waders. Every effort should thus be made to maintain this site for the conservation of these species in the future.

Autumn Passage of Waders (Charadrii) in the Middle Vistula Valley (Kaliszany, Central Poland) The phenology and dynamics of wader migration were studied at a stopover area in the middle Vistula Valley (Kaliszany ringing station, 51°05'N, 21°48'E, central Poland). The study was conducted during autumn passage seasons of 1993-1996 and 1999-2001. At this time 364 counts were done from mid-July to the end of October. Altogether 23 030 waders of 27 species were recorded within the study period. The most numerous species observed were: the Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) — 49% of all birds, Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) — 16% and Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) — 9%. Species constituting ca 2-4% of all noted waders each were: the Dunlin (Calidris alpina), Spotted Redshank (T. erythropus), Wood Sandpiper (T. glareola), Curlew (Numenius arquata), Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) and Green Sandpiper (T. ochropus). The proportion of the remaining species did not exceed 2%. The pattern of autumn migration dynamics is presented for the dominant species.

Edward Walter Wade (1864–1937), author of The Birds of Bempton Cliffs (1903, 1907), is almost unknown. He worked as a clerk for the family timber company in Hull and in his spare time visited Bempton Cliffs, where he climbed (routinely without a rope) to observe the seabirds and to collect eggs. He was an active member of the Hull Scientific and Field Naturalists' Club and became one of their Vice-Presidents and President. Between 1902 and 1920 he was a member of the British Ornithologists' Union. Wade's published comments on guillemots and their pyriform-shaped eggs, at Bempton, were unusually insightful, in part because his observations were made at close range (a consequence of his climbing ability), and partly because he thought carefully about what he saw. Wade was among the first to point out that the spinning-like-a-top explanation for the guillemot's pyriform egg shape was incorrect based on his own observations. An appendix lists Wade's 69 articles, mostly about birds in Yorkshire, published between 1901 and 1930.

A content analyses study of social studies textbooks was completed in 1993 by Rahmia Wade. She found the problematic way in which researchers examined texts noting they relied too much on personal perceptions and opinions of social studies topics and failed to cite additional sources to support their claims. The investigation further asserted social studies textbook analyses lacked interrater reliability and data quantification. In many cases, the authors of these works were comparing textbooks to other textbooks, rather than to standards, and were not examining all the texts used in a particular discipline. Based on these findings, Wade questioned the effectiveness of these analyses for improving social studies education. This project replicated Wade’s study. A random sample of social studies textbook analyses published between 2002 and 2012 was considered and the author found that they have changed little since Wade’s article. Suggestions are offered for those interested in conducting textbook analysis with a focus on how to make such studies more relevant for classroom teachers. These suggestions include: analyzing both the textbooks and standards simultaneously, analyzing the entire textbook, and providing student centered lesson ideas.

Stellocaronema skrjabini is redescribed and the genus is revised. Stellocaronema indica Sharma, 1968 and S. aurangabadensis Ilyas, 1981 are regarded as synonyms of S. fausti (Li, 1934), and S. spinulosus (Molin, 1860) is considered a species inquirenda. The remaining two species regarded as valid are S. charadrii Mawson, 1968 and S. alii Naidu, 1978. In the present study, 7 of 24 species of waders (Charadriidae, Scolopacidae, and Recurvirostridae) examined were infected with S. skrjabini. Prevalences and intensities were unusually high in the marbled godwit (Limosa fedoa (L.)) suggesting that this wader plays an important role in the transmission of S. skrjabini.

Abstract The feeding on aquatic invertebrates, intensity and efficiency of forage intake were studied at the Sivash lagoons in 1995–2002 by the example of 6 wader species (217 birds). The diet composition significantly varied from seeds of plants to different species of aquatic and soil organisms. The diet at Eastern Sivash was based on Polychaeta, at Central Sivash — on Crustacea and chironomid larvae (Insecta). Foraging intensity depended on the abundance of main prey and the size of prey items taken. We distinguished the studied wader species as “probers” and “gatherers” of forage. The highest foraging intensity among “probers” and “gatherers” were observed at the Sivash lagoons in feeding sites with a high number of chironomid larvae, and the lowest one — in feeding sites with a polychaeta worm Hediste diversicolor. The wader foraging intensity was associated with high density and availability of prey items: at Central Sivash — chironomid larvae and brine shrimps (Artemia salina), at Eastern Sivash — chironomid larvae and polychaetes. Results of the stomach analysis and obtained correlations indicate a determinative role of polychaetes, molluscs, brine shrimps and chironomids in the foraging behaviour and distribution of the studied species of waders at migratory stopovers of the Azov-Black Sea Region.

Roe v. Wade is a landmark case for women and for reproductive rights. By permitting abortion, Roe v. Wade gives women some control over the timing of pregnancy and childrearing, and has reinforced the movement of women into the labor force. Nevertheless, it is a hotly contested decision. The most fervent critics decry its substantive position on fetal status, likening it to Dred Scott and Nazi atrocities. Others classify it as an arbitrary infliction of judicial will unfit to be called law.Roe v. Wade, however, is not as radical a departure from the main currents of constitutional precedent as charged. Its premises about procreative choice stem from the Court's decisions in Griswold v. Connecticut and Eisenstadt v. Baird? Its evaluation of fetal status is not markedly different from common law positions. Nor has Roe v. Wade's recognition of procreative liberty greatly expanded the list of nonprocreative rights, as many persons had hoped or feared.

Abstract:In a You Tube video, a young man performs a satirical poem about Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade. The author brilliantly sums up Wade's tenure in one minute. He compares the president to “a rat's hole” and makes fun of his physical features while emphasizing many ways in which Wade has failed the nation. Some viewers thought the performance was disrespectful of the president, and others feared for the author's safety. This article argues that although the World Wide Web gives voice to African youth, it can be a dangerous space, especially for artists. The viewers' negative comments and their concern for the author's life is a modern response to his art and a consequence of its presentation on the Internet. If viewed through the lenses of traditional Wolof oral forms, however, the poem's harsh rhetoric takes on less controversial meanings that the viewers did not seem to understand.

Introduction. Information on historical changes in the fauna of geographical regions and biota habitats is important for understanding the processes that take place in ecosystems. The results of such an analysis in combination with modern research can indicate not only the global trends in changes of animal associations and the status of particular populations of species, but also reveal the reasons that caused the situation. Materials and discussion. The first lists of bird species in the 18th – early 19th centuries showed the nesting of 12 species of waders. However, during the 19th century 37 species of waders were found, 12 of which were nesting. 13 wader species were permanent migratory and 8 – rare migratory species. In the first half of the 20th century, there were 27 species of waders on the territory of Prykarpattia, and 25 in Volyn, among which there is a larger list of migratory and vagrant species in the foothills of the Carpathians. In the second half of the 20th century, 39 species of waders were described within the western regions of Ukraine, of which 17 were nesting, and four of them were recorded during the last decade. Conclusions. There are 42 species of waders (39 of them are recent) registered in the western part of Ukraine. Among them 17 species are nesting, 15 – migratory and seven – vagrant species. During the 20th–21st centuries, 23 species of waders, including only 7 nesting species, have not changed their status of stay. However, it has changed for 17 species: two species have disappeared; four – have become vagrant; the Ruff Calidris pugnax and the Marsh Sandpiper Tringa stagnatilis have changed their status from nesting to migratory. The Northern Lapwing Vanellus vanellus, the Green Sandpiper Tringa ochropus and the Wood Sandpiper T. glareola that were common, somewhere numerous bird, – have become few in numbers; and the Great Snipe Gallinago media and the Black-tailed Gotwit Limosa limosa – have become rare. The Jack Snipe Lymnocryptes minimus has become migratory. The nesting of sandpipers, with a southern area of distribution, in the western regions of Ukraine proves the fact of the global warming. However, the drop of the water level, drying out of wet meadows and swamps and, as a consequence, plant succession, have terminated the nesting of such species as the Ruff and the Marsh Sandpiper; the Black-tailed, the Great Snipe and the Wood Sandpiper become rare; the Northern Lapwing and the Green Sandpiper have become much less numerous.

Within sport media, it is customary for sportsmen rather than sportswomen to be accorded the privileges and responsibilities of competing not just for the nation but also on behalf of it. However, under certain circumstances, it is apparent that the typically gendered media conventions may shift to accommodate nationally important sportswomen. This study concerns the British tennis player Virginia Wade, and via a textual analysis, the print-media discourse surrounding her 1977 Wimbledon triumph is analyzed. It is argued that the wider sociohistorical and personal contexts of her victory helped facilitate a shift, whereby her national identity rather than her gender becoming the primary media frame. Not only was Wade’s win considered significant amidst the mid-1970s economic downturn in Britain, it also coincided with Wimbledon’s centenary and a visit by the Queen during jubilee year. Consequently, her victory was imbued with national symbolism through displays of “banal nationalism.” Coupled with Wimbledon’s “invented traditions,” Wade was represented as embodying the British “imagined community” through her play and approach. This study’s findings reassert the importance of examining the intersections of gender and national identity in sport media and urges for more research that foregrounds historical context as a key factor for female athlete national transcendence.

SynopsisThe Clyde Estuary is recovering from gross pollution. In the early 1970s high densities of a small number of species of intertidal invertebrates tolerant of organic enrichment and low oxygen levels provided rich feeding for large numbers of dunlin, redshank, lapwing, oystercatcher and curlew. Winter numbers of the first three species have now declined considerably. The declines cannot be attributed to national changes in wader numbers and are not due to changes in breeding habitats or lack of reproductive success in particular regions, since each species wintering on the Clyde Estuary breeds in a different area. The most likely explanation of the decline, which is most pronounced in the species highly dependent onCorophium volutator, is either that reduced organic pollution has reduced the densities of the main prey, or that higher oxygen levels over the mudflats have allowed fish, particularly flounders, to enter the estuary and compete with the waders for the available prey. Although there is evidence of some birds having moved to other wintering areas, the fate of most birds is unknown.

Rottnest I., 1900 ha in area and 18 km off the Swan Coastal Plain, has 32 km of coast and 10% of its area consisting of a complex of hypersaline lakes and brackish swamps. The Charadrii (waders or shorebirds) using these habitats were censused between December 1981 and October 1984, and the results of these censuses were compared with data collected between 1953 and 1962. Twenty-two species of wader occurred on the island between 1981 and 1984; of these, four bred on the island, nine were regular migrants (eight being transequatorial) and nine (eight transequatorial) were rare. There were several changes in status between the earlier and later surveys: the eastern golden plover, large-billed dotterel and sharp-tailed sandpiper were all regular visitors in the 1950s but were rare or absent in the 1980s; the pied oystercatcher had become more common on the island; the red-necked avocet, formerly rare, had started breeding on the island; and the grey-tailed tattler and bar-tailed godwit had become regular migrants in small numbers. The effects of loss of suitable habitat on the adjacent mainland, and the importance of the island as a conservation area, are discussed.

This is sad that aspiring ornithologist have short of interest in waders because these are exasperating and small dull colored birds. Waders are limply used terms to describe a group of small to medium sized birds, gregarious in nature, and living at the edge of the water, i.e. waders usually occupy the interphase zones of a water body. Waders are the most important group of wetland birds that are vital for the smooth functioning of these ecosystems. Wetlands in Lucknow are supporting services for bird fauna in order to maintain biological and genetic diversity. Waders are the birds ecologically dependent on wetlands. The study presents diversity of waders in Lucknow and adjacent areas where surveys have been conducted for two years (October 2013- September 2015) in different unprotected wetlands of Lucknow having N 26.84700 and E 80.94700 geographical coordinates. Total 35 Species of waders representing 3 orders and 9 families were recorded from five different localities. Out of these 35 species, family Ardeidae has maximum 12 species followed by Ciconiidae having 5 species, Charadriidae and Rallidae having 4 species each, Jacanidae having 2 species, Threskiornithidae, Recurvirostridae and Gruidae having 1 species each respectively. The effort of this baseline study is to make available the information about biodiversity of waders to recognize these sites as IBA habitat for the conservation of waders and water bird population because baseline information is a proviso for setting up and monitoring executive actions for these birds and their habitats.

The purpose of this research is to test the usability of Wadaya application prototype using usability testing method adopting ISO 9241: 11 standard. Wadaya application prototype will be tested using three usability concepts namely effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction. In this research, testing will be done twice with 20 respondents. The first prototype test result shows that (1) Wadaya application prototype is still not effective seen from mistakes made by respondents when during the execution of the task. The results showed 53.57%. (2) Wadaya application prototype is not efficient seen from the result of 44% Overall Relative Efficiency. (3) Wadaya application prototype has not fulfilled user satisfaction seen from 59,00 SUS score. The second prototype test results show that (1) Wadaya application second prototype is still not effective seen from mistakes made by respondents when during the execution of the task. The results showed 19,17% for the beginner group and 25,00% for the advance group. (2) Wadaya application second prototype is not efficient seen from the result of 74% Overall Relative Efficiency. (3)Wadaya application second prototype has fulfilled the user satisfaction seen from SUS score of 69,00 which is stated have satisfied when compared with SUS standard that is 68.

SummaryOnly a few studies have assessed the predation risk on artificially marked nests, or have examined ways of marking nests to avoid destruction by machinery. Until now, however, neither type of study has directly addressed this apparent trade-off experimentally. The impact of marking the nests of Northern Lapwing Vanellus vanellus with thin 2 m-long conspicuous bamboo poles with the top end highlighted with reflective red or orange spray has been tested for three years in two breeding areas of waders in the Czech Republic. A total of 52 pairs of nests on agricultural land, with each pair consisting of one marked nest and one unmarked reference counterpart nest, were monitored for 2004 nest-days until hatching, agricultural operations or failure. The results proved that marking itself does not result in increased nest predation. The nests found in the early incubation stage were under higher threat of depredation, irrespective of the presence of marking. Our results show that it is possible to find a finely-tuned trade-off in nest marking of ground-nesting birds between risk of damage by agricultural machinery and risk of increased nest predation. Our positive experience with Northern Lapwing, and episodically with three other wader species in the Czech Republic, suggests that this direct nest protection could be used effectively for a wider variety of ground-nesting birds.

Although populations of wildfowl and waders fell from 25–35,000 and 50–65,000 respectively in the 1970s, to 10–15,000 and 30–40,000 by the mid-1980s, the Forth remains one of few British estuaries to support more than fifteen waterfowl species of national importance for conservation. The ecology and decline of diving ducks off Edinburgh and population studies of shelduck have been given particular attention by researchers. Among waders, distributions, movements and feeding have been studied in detail. The causes of the recent declines amongst waders, notably for knot (Calidris canutus) and dunlin (Calidris alpina) on the estuarine Forth, remain uncertain, but are likely to include natural factors as well as those linked to man's activities.

Nocturnal and diurnal habitat use by migrant waders was studied at three sites in the Richmond estuary, northern New South Wales. Numerous species of migrant wader showed significant differences in habitat use between night and day. Sanderling (Calidris alba), red-necked stint (Calidris ruficollis) and, possibly, double-banded plover (Charadrius bicinctus) foraged on mudflats during the day but moved to ocean beaches to forage during night low tides. Pacific golden plover (Pluvialis fulva), greater sandplover (Charadrius leschenaultii), eastern curlew (Numenius madagascariensis) and bar-tailed godwit (Limosa lapponica) displayed less significant differences in habitat use, although densities increased at night on moist sandy mudflats. The numbers of terek sandpiper (Xenus cinereus) and curlew sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea) decreased on sandy mudflats at night although where these birds went is unknown. Nocturnal foraging by X. cinereus may be restricted to moonlit nights. Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) also displayed differences in habitat use by foraging more on moist sandy mud at night and less in sea grass. No significant differences were found for whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus). Habitat use by both N. madagascariensis and N. phaeopus appears related to lunar phase. Six hypotheses are postulated to explain the observed differences: (1) exploitation of changes in prey behaviour and availability; (2) predator avoidance; (3) human avoidance; (4) increased light on mudflats from urban areas; (5) avoidance of roosting flocks of gulls and terns; and (6) relationship with prevailing environmental conditions. The data presented provide a basis from which further work will be undertaken.

Wader krispi merupakan salah satu produk diversifikasi ikan wader yang banyak diproduksi di Kabupaten Kendal. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan spinner terhadap kandungan gizi dan parameter oksidasi wader krispi dibandingkan dengan tanpa penggunaan spinner. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa dengan penggunaan spinner dapat menurunkan kadar air, kadar abu, kadar lemak, yaitu masing-masing 4,61%, 4,88%, dan 3,48%. Sedangkan kadar protein mengalami peningkatan yaitu 32,1% dibandingkan dengan wader krispi tanpa penggunaan spinner. Penggunaan spinner pada wader krispi juga menurunkan PV dan TBA sebagai parameter oksidasi, yaitu 4,47 meq/kg dan 0,04 malonaldehid/g.

Margosari village has the Serang River which is a source of income for the community. The catched fish is sold in the form of fresh wader fish at a price of Rp. 7,000.00 to Rp. 9,000.00 / Kg. Selling price and storage capacity of wader fish are very low, so it needs to be increased by diversifying the process into krispi wader as one of the business opportunities. The problems faced by partners are: 1) Limited knowledge and skills regarding the diversification process of wader fish; 2) Packaging method is still simple and does not meet standards; and 3) Marketing process is still carried out by direct selling and has not used online marketing method. This community service program aims to increase knowledge and skills regarding the diversification process of wader fish into krispi wader, packaging technology and online marketing. The methods used in conducting this program were in the form of counseling and training as well as assistance to 20 BUMDes members. Counseling and training activities include: 1) Counseling and training on the diversification of processed wader fish into krispi wader fish; 2) Counseling and packaging training was held to know how to pack and making packaging labels; 3) Marketing training based on online marketing. The benchmarks for the success of this service activity can be seen from the increasing of knowledge and skills regarding the diversification of wader krispi process, knowledge of labels and packaging as well as knowledge of online marketing for members of the Margosari BUMDes group based on pretest and posttest analysis of service activities. The conclusion of this service activity is that the counseling method followed by training methods are effective for members of the Margosari BUMDes group in diversifying their wader fish, labeling and packaging as well as online marketing.

Abstract The results of the macro-micromorphological structure of the digestive system of the waders and comparative analysis with the migrants of the Aves are presented. It was revealed that the digestive system of waders at the anatomical level has a universal structure typical for representatives of class Aves. As a result of histological studies of the structure of the digestive tract, it was found that the feature of the wall of the waders small intestine is the dense location of the crypt in its own plate of the mucous membrane throughout its length. High proliferative capacity of cambial crypt cells and their multilayered location provide high secretory and regenerative activity of enterocytes, which helps to restore the mucous membrane and intensify the digestive processes, especially during the active feeding of the waders at the migration stopover points. At this time, the length and mass of the intestine, the mass of the stomach and the liver increase, what is considered as a reaction to a large number of feeds in the intensive feeding of birds and indicates the plasticity of their digestive system. It is shown that the change in the morphometric parameters of the waders digestive system organs depending on the migration situation is an integral part of the adaptive mechanism of the migratory birds, which provides the basic need of the organism - fat accumulation. Th e content of general liver lipids, abdominal fat and thoracic muscles in 6 species of tundra warblers with varying degrees of fat accumulation at the migration stopover points in the Azov-Black Sea region was studied.

Morfologi atau kenampakan bentuk skeleton berbeda dalam setiap perkembangan, karena mengalami diferensiasi.Pada ikan genus Rasbora, perkembangan skeleton dan perbedaan skeletonnya masih sangat sedikit dikaji, terlebih lagi pada spesies R. lateristriata.Kekhasan lain yang ingin diamati adalah bagaimana ikan ini mampu beregenerasi. Hampir semua organisme hidup mempunyai kemampuan beregenerasi. Kemampuan regenerasi masing-masing organisme tidak sama. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengamati proses kalsifikasi tulang pada Ikan Wader (Rasboralateristriata) dan mengidentifikasi regenerasi ekor ikan wader (Rasbora lateristriata). Hasilnya menunjukan bahwa ikan wader telah mengalami proses osifikasi atau penulangan sehingga pada hasil pengamatan dilihat hampir seluruh tulang ikan wader terwarnai merah yang berarti tersusun atas tulang keras. Sedangkan bagian kecil pada bagian ekor ikan terdapat warna biru yang menunjukan bahwa bagian tersebut tersusun atas tulang rawan.Ekor ikan wader yang telah dipotong utuh siripnya kembali tumbuh mulai hari ke 6 secara perlahan hingga hari ke 21 telah kembali seperti semula.Pada pengamatan ini menunjukan bahwa pada bagian ekor ikan wader terdapat stem sel sehingga ekor ikan dapat mengalami regenerasi.Kata kunci: Ikan Wader (Rasboralateristriata), Kalsifikasi, Regenerasi.

Abstract Wireworm control trials were established at 3 locations in Minnesota: Staples (Wadena County), Itasca (Clearwater County), and Woodbury (Washington County). All sites had either old alfalfa-grass or pasture as the previous crop. Soils were sandy loam and irrigated at Wadena County, clay loam and very moist in Clearwater County, and sandy loam with a spring drouth in Washington County. Severe white grub infestations developed at the Washington and Clearwater locations. A large wireworm population was present in Washington; neither was found in Wadena. The latter permitted evaluation of uncomplicated chemical effects on the potato itself. Insecticides were applied in the furrow with the seed piece in Wadena and Clearwater and over the planted row and then lightly covered in Washington. Plots were single rows 50 ft long, replicated 6 times at each site, and arranged in a randomized complete block design. A different design was used at each location. Fungicide and foliar insecticides were broadcast on all plots at least 3 times at each location to protect the growing potato throughout the season. Plots were hand dug and all tubers were examined and separated according to grub damage, wireworm damage, damage by both, and no damage. Percent effect for each case was calculated and transformed by ARCSINE, and the means were compared.

ABSTRACTIt has long been suspected that James Weddell was born in Ostend, Belgium. However, no record of his birth was found during earlier searches in the Belgian archives. New searches in the parish registers of Ostend reveal that he was born in that town on 24 August 1787. The Weddell family is recorded in these archives under the name of Waddle, and it was as such that father Waddle signed documents. The parish registers of Ostend are in Latin and James's name was Latinised to Jacobus. The first record of James Weddell thus refers to Jacobus Waddle. In the parish registers are two other documents relating to the Weddell family: the birth of a brother Charles in 1782 and the death of another brother who was also called Jacobus in 1787. Therefore, the family lived in Ostend at least from 1782 to 1787.

We prove some results on the Wadge order on the space of sets of natural numbers endowed with Scott topology, and more generally, on omega-continuous domains. Using alternating decreasing chains we characterize the property of Wadge hardness for the classes of the Hausdorff difference hierarchy (iterated differences of open sets). A similar characterization holds for Wadge one-to-one and finite-to-one completeness. We consider the same questions for the effectivization of the Wadge relation. We also show that for the space of sets of natural numbers endowed with the Scott topology, in each class of the Hausdorff difference hierarchy there are two strictly increasing chains of Wadge degrees of sets properly in that class. The length of these chains is the rank of the considered class, and each element in one chain is incomparable with all the elements in the other chain.

Autumn Migration of Waders (Charadrii) at the Reda Mouth (N Poland) The migration of waders was investigated at the Reda mouth (Polish Baltic coast) between 1996 and 2001. During the study 496 counts were conducted in the period between 5 July and 5 October. The most numerous species observed were: the Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) - 39.5% and Dunlin (Calidris alpina) - 29.8% of all waders. Because of a variety of habitats in the Reda mouth region, among the waders staging numerously in the Reda mouth there were species typical both for coastal and inland habitat. It was shown that birds from tundra zone migrated later than those from more southern breeding areas, which was caused by much later beginning of egg laying in northern latitudes. Moreover, in the species from tundra zone, e.g. the Knot (Calidris canutus), Little Stint (C. minuta), Curlew Sandpiper (C. ferruginea), the migration of both age classes were well separated, whereas in those from more southern areas, e.g. the Little Ringed Plover (Charadius dubius), Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos), such difference was less pronounced and the period of common passage of adults and juveniles was much longer. A comparison of the obtained data on migration pattern with some other sites in Poland where regular counts were conducted showed several similarities and some discrepancies, which are discussed in the paper.

As basic protective clothing, a chest wader needs to be worn by fishermen during wading work. Its thermal and moisture performance would directly influence fishermen’s comfort and health. In order to increase the thermal-moisture comfort for fishermen, this research aimed to design a new lining chest wader and to carry out both subjective and objective evaluations on its comfort properties. By simulating moisture absorption under a hydraulic pressure environment, we tested the water absorption and conductivity of the selected fabrics and water-absorbent resin materials, and used an appropriate combination of the fabric and the resin to cover different sweating areas of the human body. Ten subjects were recruited to conduct the wearing test on the chest wader to evaluate its thermal-moisture performance. The objective evaluation involved tracking the changes in temperature and relative humidity at four body parts when a participant wore the chest wader, while the subjective evaluation included a questionnaire about the wearing experience on the thermal-moisture comfort and operation convenience. The experimental results showed that the new lining enhanced the comfort significantly. Compared with the common chest wader, the new lining reduced the relative humidity of chest wader on average by 30% approximately, with the largest improvement being at the calf, followed by the thigh and crotch. The thermal-moisture performance of the chest wader was also influenced by the hydraulic pressure of the working environment and the ease allowance to the wearing body.

AbstractWe prove that the determinacy of Gale-Stewart games whose winning sets are accepted by realtime 1-counter Büchi automata is equivalent to the determinacy of (effective) analytic Gale-Stewart games which is known to be a large cardinal assumption. We show also that the determinacy of Wadge games between two players in charge ofω-languages accepted by 1-counter Büchi automata is equivalent to the (effective) analytic Wadge determinacy. Using some results of set theory we prove that one can effectively construct a 1-counter Büchi automatonand a Büchi automatonsuch that: (1) There exists a model of ZFC in which Player 2 has a winning strategy in the Wadge gameW(L(),L()); (2) There exists a model of ZFC in which the Wadge gameW(L(),L()) is not determined. Moreover these are the only two possibilities, i.e. there are no models of ZFC in which Player 1 has a winning strategy in the Wadge gameW(L(),L()).

In Italy, the launch of the online portal at www.ornitho.it in 2009 has played a key role in advancing our knowledge about the abundance, geographical distribution and phenology of birds, and has greatly improved everyday ornithological issues. Indeed, the extensive participation by many observers has provided an opportunity to obtain new insight into the phenology of many species of migratory birds, such as Tringa sp. In this paper, I have analysed the data gathered between 2010 and 2014 on the genus Tringa in Lombardy, amounting to a total of 5,590 validated records for spring and autumn migrations. The analysis revealed that the rice-farming area of S-W Lombardy – which covers more than 90,000 hectares located mainly in the province of Pavia – represents an invaluable habitat during the spring migration by supporting the bulk of migrating waders. Other man-made habitats, such as restored sand and gravel pits and water-collection tanks, are of similar importance for the diversity of the wader community, but, together with the few natural wetlands, support much lower numbers of individuals. The wood sandpiper is the most abundant species, with groups reaching 600 individuals, followed by the spotted redshank and the greenshank. The green sandpiper is the most common and widespread species, with a low number of individuals reaching the highest altitudes (above 2,600 m a.s.l. in the province of Sondrio) during the autumn migration. The common redshank is relatively rare, generally distributed around 200 m a.s.l. in the provinces of Pavia and Milan, while the marsh sandpiper is definitely rare, with only 68 records in the five-year period analysed.

From 1981 to 1984, aerial surveys along the north-east Australian coast between Cairns in Queensland and Milingimbi in Arnhem Land recorded more than 250 000 migratory wading birds in December and February and up to 60 000 in July and early September, largely in the south-east Gulf of Carpentaria. The pattern of dispersion of waders was similar in both summer and winter. More than 85% in both seasons were found along muddy coastline fringed by mangroves. Waders congregated near the mouths of the rivers with the largest catchments.
