The central topic of this work is to study through which ways Spinoza’s philosophy solves or, at least, negotiates oppositions between absolutely or relatively heterogeneous figures (themes, notions or examples) it yields. Starting with an analysis of theoretical material provided by Spinoza himself, the first part exhibits the reasons why, in spite of originating from "imagination", the language can express true thoughts or true ideas. The second part, pondering on the lemmas of ethics II, deals with questions of physics and, more precisely, with the problem of the individuality of any given thing; it shows that there is probably a discrepancy between the consistency of an individual thing in itself or for god and its consistency for us. The third part establishes some connections between the idea that, if its outdoor surrounding is suppressed, any being will get an everlasting duration of existence and the idea that, according to ethics III, proposition IV, corollary II, a complete dissimilarity between the nature of a worshipper and the nature of the object of his adoration is the very condition of pure or even sacred love

Susini, Laurent. "La lumière et le feu : la " vraie éloquence " à l'œuvre dans les Pensées de Pascal." Paris 4, 2005. http://www.theses.fr/2005PA040223.
Drawing upon an unpublished palaeographic edition of the ordered bundles of the Pensées, this study confronts Pascal's theoretical discourse on eloquence with his effective praxis as a writer, all the while embracing in one coherent rhetorical point of view the various concerns of the Apologie. It demonstrates how the Pensées articulate an eloquence of the heart and of the flectere imitating the voice of the prophets ; and an eloquence of nature – seeking a subtle balance between reason and will, truth and pleasure, and exploiting the seductive features of the honnête homme's conversational rhetoric by appropriating them to a Christian point of view. Above all, this study demonstrates the means by which, unable to claim to convert its reader, the Apologie aims at least to persuade him that belief is not absurd, and, through various formal techniques, to simultaneously constrain him into a prayer-like state, thereby preparing his heart for a possible coming of grace

Paris 10, 1992. http://www.theses.fr/1992PA100121.
The starting point of the present study is a fieldwork conducted on a group of sixty council flat families from Paris suburban tower buildings. On the basis of the results of this survey, the author assumes that even within an identical and constrained space furnished with serial things, the individuals succeed creating difference through a process of appropriation of said things. This process is part of development of these persons cultural and social identity. The author proceeds to analyze the decoration of the visited flats on the basis of a description of the contents of the living rooms and the accompanying statements. She chooses a classifying typology with revels the general structure of the system of things, develops three types illustrating strategies and referring to social itinerates. Then, she turns towards the things and the furniture from the point of view of their trajectory and points out the processes of appropriation, the fact that these things were not randomly acquired since there is an echo between the different systems of things and corresponding behaviors. These strategies belong also to the aesthetical sphere, the author, as part of a general reflection on the popular culture, wonders about the formal models constructed by the families. The author concludes in pointing out the importance of the study of the material culture of our society so as to be able to understand its consuming logics

The objective of this work is to better understand the phenomena related to vibratory driving and to capitalize on it. This report is organized into three chapters. The first describes two techniques of driven piles: impact driving and vibratory driving. The second chapter is based on two axes : 1) A full scale experimental study of acoustic impact of sound and especially an analysis of noise caused by the driving piles with a vibrator, a hydraulic hammer or a pneumatic hammer, 2) A full scale experimental study of particulate velocity during pile driving, coupled with a numerical analysis (both in 2D and in 3D), with the finite element software package CESAR-LCPC. From full-scale experiments, the third chapter compares the bearing capacity of piles implemented by impact and vibratory driving and proposes to take into account the vibratory driving piles into the French rules

With recent progresses in concrete mix-design, a number of problems have been encountered in the area of pumping. In this contect, the aims of this thesis were the following : a) to analyse physical phenomena underlying the occurrence of blockages in pumping networks ; b) to develop a practical methodology, based on simple tests, leading to an evaluation of the pumpability of a given concrete in a given pumping systems ; c) to develop an instrument capable of characterising the steel-concrete interface and to develop models for the calculation of the flow rate/pressure relationship ; d) to validate the proposed models with tests carried out at the industrial scale. For our tests we used a variety of sixty-eight different concrete mixtures. We developed two new instruments : a) the modified air-meter (to assess the bleeding rate of fresh concrete) ; b) the coaxial cylinder tribometer, a large-gap coaxial viscometer devoted to the test of steel/concrete interface. Thanks to the analysis of test results, it was possible to understand that pumpabiity (as related to blockages) is not an intrinsic characteristics of the concrete mix alone, but is rather governed by several parameters among which the concrete mixture, the pumping system and the process are found. We established a classification of the blockages and we proposed models to explain their fomation. The results was to reach a set of practical recommendations to lessen the risks of blockages. The tests demonstrated the importance of the steel-concrete interface, where a slipping layer takes place. We proposed a predictive model for the pumping of concrete, based upon measurements of the interface and rheological parameters, measured with the new tribometer and the BTRHEOM rheometer, respectively. Finally, we have succeeded in characterising a concrete in the laboratory to predict the pumping parameters. This can reduce problems arising at the work site with new types of mixtures as high performance or self-compacting concrete

The objective of this doctoral thesis consists in the characterization of diffuse and localized deformations during monotonic loading of both isotropic and anisotropic porous sandstones. In particular, the kinematics of emerging and persistent strain localization structures are investigated in a combination of complementary experimental, analytical and numerical approaches, exploring the effect of different true triaxial loading paths in the octahedral plane.A series of experimental loading tests have been performed in a laboratory environment comprising a high pressure true triaxial apparatus (TTA), which is designed to provide access to full-field measurements of one of the sample surfaces at high spacial and temporal resolutions. Important developments contributed in this work enabled to extend the capabilities for this apparatus to perform invariant controlled loading paths, while acquiring direct strain measurements from a combination of strain gauges and digital image correlation (DIC). Using this apparatus, two experimental campaigns have been realized, focusing on the mechanical characterization of both a well-studied isotropic Vosges sandstone and a newly studied anisotropic Vosges sandstone. The later sandstone has been selected for the organization of its granular fabric in thin bedding plane layers of variable porosity. The results from these series of mechanical loading experiments contribute an original insight into the emergence and development of localized deformation during different stages of loading. A combined analysis is performed on the evolution of the macroscopic stress-strain responses, full-field measurements of incremental strains through DIC, as well as post-mortem x-ray tomography. Additionally, in this investigation exploring rarely considered loading paths, the independent role of the mean stress, the Lode angle and the orientation of the bedding planes is systematically studied according to their respective influence on the material strength, the manifestation of localized structures and the transition towards a ductile behavior of the material. In terms of analytical development, a bifurcation analysis is proposed for a novel three invariant model, validated with experimental results obtained for the isotropic sandstone. This theoretical model, proved to be successful in predicting both the deformation band inclination and the dilatancy angle of the material at failure. In parallel, a double scale model based on numerical homogenization is presented. In this approach, a macro 2D finite element model (FEM) is coupled to a micro 3D discrete element model (DEM) at the particle scale of a representative elementary volume (REV) in the frame of a hierarchical scheme (FEMxDEM), with second gradient regularization. This model is extended in the scope of this work to the study of cemented granular materials, with the development of a frictional-cohesive damageable contact law, implemented at the DEM level. In an extensive series of true triaxial loading simulations, the hierarchical numerical model is used to explore both the influence of different micro-structural arrangements (DEM) and heterogeneities at the sample scale (FEM). In this respect, two types of anisotropies resulting from heterogeneities defined at each scales are further investigated. The mechanical response and localized deformation, emerging from the micro-scale constitutive model, is shown to display significant correspondence with experimental observations in the studied Vosges sandstones. This combination of advanced experimental, analytical and numerical studies contributes a unique insight into important and open questions regarding the mechanical response and deformation processes of cemented granular materials

Nowadays, engineers try to realize structures using tridimensional state of stress So, we study the behaviour of cohesion-less soils under true triaxial stresses of shear and compression. The analyse of references show that theory of plasticity is appropriated to this kind of dilatant and cohesionless soil. In this way, we propose a cap model with eight simple and well-known parameters. Hypothesis of this model are justified on laboratory tests and some simulations are maked. The shear part of this model is used to calculate by finite element method the stability of tunnel face and the behavoiur of a pile loaded by an axial force

The Roman de Troie in prose known as Prose 1 is a transcription into prose of Benoît de Sainte-Maure's versified novel. This rewriting work, pervaded by historiographical ambition, also aims to edify through moralisations. Replacing the novel in its tradition (the Trojan theme) and confronting it with its most direct source as well as with other works from the 13th century, such as the Trésor by Brunet Latin or the chronicles of the Crusades, enable us to clarify its dating and locating. Thanks to the prose medium, the anonymous author builds a new approach to History, thus modifying the narrator's ethos and the mimesis of reality : the role of the individual in action is stressed, while action itself is remodeled to highlight the agent's responsibility ; a responsibility not only in acts but also in words, which are reported in a radically different manner. Along with his own view of the legend, the prose writer offers edifying moralistic commentaries that draw the portrait of a measured man, revealing the influence of both Christian wisdom and Aristotelian philosophy, very much alive in the second half of the 13th century. Beyond all that, the rewriting work is pregnant with ideological and political stakes : Prose 1 sets the exaltation of Christian faith and a certain ideal of feudal government in the heart of the Antique world, a vision supported by an inversion of the translatio and a redefinition of Benoît's values, models and identifications. The writing encompasses several genres and becomes totalising, in order to make the legend an ideological answer to the main concerns of those days
Klajnman, Adrien. "La fabrique intellectuelle du "Traité de la réforme de l'intellect" : idée vraie donnée, méthode et art dans la philosophie de Spinoza." Paris 4, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003PA040221.
Spinoza's first philosophy is based upon the idea of improvement of the intellect. Its implication, wich it is a French tradition for academics to study, go beyond the frame of a first writing. The "Treatese on the improvement of the understanding" presents the spinozian methos as the production of truth on intellect and nature from the true given idea. This starting point is sufficient to act as the foundation of a new way leading to ethical philosophy while pointing towards data that is both produced and available for use in order to create a vast amount of intellectual works following necessary order and automatism. However, spinozian data overflows the field of the true idea given as well as the spinozian analogy between technical and intellectual productions, since it also involves the cultural devices available fo Spinoza to create is own work. Experiences, histories, sciences, definit datas of the scriptures, corporal modifications, technical and political practices, all constitute the starting point for Spinoza's constructions of the future philosophy. The intellectual factory, as real art of thinking making concepts and dissociating oneself from traditions, is therefore not only a first way followed by Spinoza towards the future philosophy, giving new life to artificalist models of the method during Renaissance, but it's also a source, from which it is possible to understand Spinoza's practice of philosophy on the pattern of art

Dubut, Jérémy. "Directed homotopy and homology theories for geometric models of true concurrency." Thesis, Université Paris-Saclay (ComUE), 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017SACLN032/document.
Studying a system that evolves with time through its geometry is the main purpose of directed algebraic topology. This topic emerged in computer science, more particularly in true concurrency, where Pratt introduced the higher dimensional automata (HDA) in 1991 (actually, the idea of geometry of concurrency can be tracked down Dijkstra in 1965). Those automata are geometric by nature: every set of n processes executing independent actions can be modeled by a n-cube, and such an automaton then gives rise to a topological space, obtained by glueing such cubes together. This space naturally has a specific direction of time coming from the execution flow. It then seems natural to use tools from algebraic topology to study those spaces: paths model executions, homotopies of paths, that is continuous deformations of paths, model equivalence of executions modulo scheduling of independent actions, and so on, but all those notions must preserve the direction. This brings many complications and the theory must be done again. In this thesis, we develop homotopy and homology theories for those spaces with a direction. First, my directed homotopy theory is based on deformation retracts, that is continuous deformation of a big space on a smaller space, following directed paths that are inessential, meaning that they do not change the homotopy type of spaces of executions. This theory is related to categories of components and higher categories. Secondly, my directed homology theory follows the idea that we must look at the spaces of executions and those evolves with time. This evolution of time is handled by defining such homology as a diagram of spaces of executions and comparing such diagrams using a notion of bisimulation. This homology theory has many nice properties: it is computable on simple spaces, it is an invariant of our homotopy theory, it is invariant under simple action refinements and it has a theory of exactness

Generally, the rain penetration through pitched lapped roofs is created by the difference of external and internal pressure, generated by the wind. In this thesis, a numerical model has been developped for prediction of internal pressure under the elements (the external pressure can be measured on a model in a boundary layer wind-tunnel). Two cases have been studied : roof without underlay, roof with flexible or stiff underlay. The dynamics of internal pressure is, in general, a complex problem. This is due to the poor knowledge on the leakage paths characteristics. Therefore, full-scale experimental studies have been carried out to characterize the roof wind permeability (test appartus) and to investigate the effects of windspeed, atmospheric turbulence and rain intensity on this permeability (climatic wind-tunnel). The analytical results were compared with full-scale results (roof without underlay case), and they matched closely. Parametric studies (underlay case) have shown that it is possible to reduce considerably the wind loads. Through a complete knowledge of the controlling parameters it will be possible to design and construct pitched lapped roofs, from which the problems of rain penetration is strongly reduced

My main point, in this thesis, is to explore what the philosophical meaning of the expression “a true word” may be. I argue that Franz Rosenzweig's use of the word “Wahrlich” in order to describe human beings'trial when aknowledging their submission to a transcendant truth helps us understand what this meaning is. In The Star of Redemption, the renewal of interpretating what the word “truth” means is founded on an encounter between hellenism and judaism and it culminates in a philosophy of testimony. I argue that this irreductible face-to-face of the two sources of our culture – hellenism and judaism – leads us to a better and decisive discovery of a language that is both a revealed and a revealing language. Revelation – while getting the Logos to remain silent – gives us a new set of concepts : immemorial, prediction and redemption

L'histoire comique de francion (1623-1626-1633) et le berger extravagant (1627-1634) are two novels written by charles sorel wich make it possible to apprehend the textual manifestations of a problematical subject of writing which, hypothetically, comes into existence in the middle of the baroque period, at the beginnings of modernity. Three sucessiv e levels make possible the development of the socio-poetics of forms of enunciation within the novel : the level of the "narrator", in other words of the poetic investment of the subject of writing; the level of the author, that is to say the level of the individual person providing the text and who faces contradictory generic options ; finally the level of the writter, of the man of letters confronted with the ambiguities of his own social inscription. This problematical subject, whose over determination by an ambiguous institutional inscription is the very source of wri ting justifies concrete analyses of literary facts, whether textual or peripheral; this subject is also capable, within the framework of theories of subjectivity, of fuelling future conceptual redistributions

High-purity enantioseparation is essential for the pharmaceutical and food industries. Conventional chiral separation techniques provide a wide range of methods, all of which rely on chiral selectors - stationary phases or molecules that discriminate enantiomers through stereospecific interaction. Despite the vast number of natural and synthetic selectors currently in use, the increasing demand for enantiopurity is driving research for new and versatile methods. The aim of this thesis is to investigate alternative methods of chiral separation that involve the application of magnetic fields in various configurations. One idea centers around the concept of true and false chirality, which was introduced by L. Barron for dynamic systems of individual objects and physical vector quantities. His discussion explicitly states that neither static magnetic nor electric fields, nor any combination of those, possess true chirality, the feature required to induce enantiomeric discimination. However, his theory suggests a molecular analog of the well-known Faraday effect based on the collinear application of magnetic field to a molecular flow.Alternatively, a perpendicular configuration with the molecular flow involving a ferromagnetic substrate has demonstrated enantiospecific spin interactions, otherwise known as the CISS effect. In this regard, our main objective was the further exploration of such interactions in dynamic conditions of capillary electrophoresis, which provides simple and fast detection, while introducing Ni substrates along the flow of molecules and applying an orthogonal magnetic field.Lastly, the orthogonal configuration of the magnetic field was exploited to study the dynamic behavior of electropolarized objects. The patterns of the resulting rotation, exhibited by different objects under the influence of a magnetohydrodynamic effect, originating from the induced Lorentz force, are shown to be dependent on magnetic field polarity. Their dynamic behavior as a function of time resembles those of falsely chiral systems

Performance art is a contemporary art is hard to define but which can be described as an action made an audience by a performance artist who, in contrast to the traditional theater, is the artist himself is inflicting sometimes real physical injuries. This art questions the 'like true' and the 'true' and seems less fictitious than traditional theater because blood’s physical injuries is 'true' and that he uses his trace as evidence (video recordings, sound recordings, photographs, objects, sketches, written, etc.). If the fiction and the trace seem opposed, because the first is an invention (the "like true") the other is a sustainable living action (the ' true') element, performance art then would think these two concepts not as opposites but as Horn related. As performance art, object of study here, presents his trail as a perennial element of a more or less invented action: as the 'true' including the border with the "like true" can be questioned. This thesis argues its assumptions through a comparative part between performance art and theatrical art, with as problematic fiction that seems opposite to 'true'. And a second consequential part on the possible "like true" of the trace, which allows the study of three epistemological traces : memory, writing, and trifle through respective examples of performance artists

The present study will contribute to understanding of mechanical behavior of stell-reinforced-concrete based pavements vs. Microcracking. Based upon the knowledge of concrete and the griping between concrete and stell, contact problems are investigated according to the finite-element method. The griping experiments allow us to achieve a new test : the ABA test. The present results account for accurate parameters involved in the numerical model for steel-concrete interface law. For a better understanding of cracking origins, an experimental device and original process were perfected to simulate this kind of behavior in life-size in laboratory. It brings to therefore some thermal strains at earlier stage during concrete setting. Otherwise the following points were shown : the importance of concrete section or steel content ; the importance of the friction between the slab and the holder ; the influence of the kind of framework used on the craking development. Furthermore, development of mechanical characteristics and free shrinkage were determined on references. And, a comparison was undertaken between experimental and calculated results
