The work analyzes the assessment of landscape quality in Ricaurte Street in the city of Portoviejo, province of Manabí. The main properties were identified with the purpose of establishing the visual factors that give depth to the work. Using a qualitative methodology of a descriptive, analytical and deductive type, it was possible to give way to the collection of information through a survey of citizens, merchants, and architects of the sector. Several criteria were used for data analysis, such as historical attributes, symbolic attributes, spatial attributes, socio-economic attributes, constructive architectural attributes, landscape attributes, ecological natural attributes, and visual attributes. It was concluded that there is a landscape rupture, which is being linked to the re-structuring of the historiccenter of the city, in order to improve the landscape visibility of the area considered in the study. Keywords: landscape quality, visual factors, green spaces.

In the past years Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) has emerged as a novel form of user-generated content, which involves active generation of geo-data for example in citizen science projects or during crisis mapping as well as the passive collection of data via the user’s location-enabled mobile devices. In addition there are more and more sensors available that detect our environment with ever greater detail and dynamics. These data can be used for a variety of applications, not only for the solution of societal tasks such as in environment, health or transport fields, but also for the development of commercial products and services. The interpretation, visualisation and usage of such multi-source data is challenging because of the large heterogeneity, the differences in quality, the high update frequencies, the varying spatial-temporal resolution, subjective characteristics and low semantic structuring.<br> Therefore the German Research Foundation has launched a priority programme for the next 3&amp;ndash;6 years which will support interdisciplinary research projects. This priority programme aims to provide a scientific basis for raising the potential of VGI- and sensor data. Research questions described more in detail in this short paper span from the extraction of spatial information, to the visual analysis and knowledge presentation, taking into account the social context while collecting and using VGI.

Abstract This article investigates the notion of memorization in rabbinic and Roman spatial practices. The Greco-Roman mnemonic technique, in which space was a structuring device for the memorized ideas, words or images, has been extensively studied. Scholars have also demonstrated how such a technique was applied in rabbinic systems of memorization and the arrangement of oral traditions. Nevertheless, very little has been written about the role of mnemonics in the organization of space itself. In the first part of the article I use the comparison between the Corpus Agrimensorum Romanorum (first to fifth centuries CE collection of illuminated manuals of land survey and urban planning) and tractate Eruvin to explore references to cities in the shape of Greek letters, which are almost identical in the two texts. The fact that a list of cities in the shape of letters was used in the Roman corpus as a mnemonic device for the memorization of urban layouts suggests that the rabbis corresponded with such methods in their spatial formulations of the Sabbath Boundary. In the second part of the article I investigate the rabbinic system of forgotten produce (shikheḥah) that maps fields in order to determine which crops were unintentionally left behind by the farmer and consequently belonged to the poor. As I demonstrate, many of the spatial and visual principles applied by the rabbis in this system echo the mnemonic principles described in the Roman work on memorization Rhetorica Ad Herennium. The primary purpose of the article, however, is not merely to illuminate an instance of cultural exchange, but rather to point to the profound link established by mnemonics between space, image and language. The mechanism of organizing words and ideas spatially and visually affected the ways in which space was perceived and was, itself, organized.

AbstractThe description of the “Nine Provinces” (Jiu zhou 九州) found in the Rong Cheng shi 容成氏 (Mister Rong Cheng?, late fourth century b.c.e.) manuscript from the Shanghai Museum Bamboo Slips Collection (Shangbo cangjian 上博藏簡) is the only manuscript version of it known to date. Its discovery immediately raised the question of its relation to the cluster of descriptions on the “Nine Provinces” transmitted from the late Warring States to the early Western Han periods. There is general consensus that the manuscript description of the “Nine Provinces” has close affinity with the transmitted descriptions, as well as with a wide spectrum of transmitted early Chinese texts in general. It is distinguished by the eclectic combining of known spatial concepts, rather than manifesting any radically new or specifically Chu traits. In this study I reassess this impression with respect to the reference to the Han River in the manuscript, which up to now has been noted only in passing as an unsolved puzzle. I argue that the Han River is referred to here as the central axis that divides terrestrial space into southern and northern halves, something that implies a shifting of the mapped area to the South and thus conveys a Chu view of space. Together with philological analysis of the descriptions of terrestrial space, I apply an innovative method of investigation of these descriptions through landmarks, using as a visual aid traditional Chinese historical maps. In addition, I explore the predominance of waters as the distinguishing feature of the representation of terrestrial space in the Rong Cheng shi manuscript and demonstrate its difference from the structuring of terrestrial space proceeding from mountains to waterways to be seen in the majority of transmitted early Chinese texts.

The purpose was to demonstrate a process to characterize a segment of a university collection from an object base using an existing aesthetic framework. A collection consisting of 40 Chinese Qipaos in the Republic Period were analyzed for their repetitive and defining features. Qipaos were selected as examples of defining features and analyzed using the concept of structuring within Delongs framework of visual analysis. This process demonstrated how aesthetics could be applied to raise awareness of artifacts within the collection. The result was a characterization of the collection in the Republic Period in terms of defining features that included structuring and the visual result of an intergration of layout and surface.

Abstract What are the politics of ephemerality? In the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees establishment at Dadaab, Kenya, a massive complex of refugee camps near the border of Somalia, the visual and architectural terms of ephemerality—a permanent impermanence—transform the act of seeing. By thinking through one refugee's experience and analyzing urbanism, architectural form and symbolism, and spatial-political organization, this essay suggests that ephemerality plays a part in structuring subjectivity, with implications for the narration of history.

Introduction: This study examines the spatial abilities of middle school students with visual impairments (i.e., blindness and low vision) in the context of spatial visualization. The study also aims to examine the strategies used by such students in solving questions requiring spatial ability. Methods: Participants comprised eight students with visual impairments attending the 8th grade of a school in Ankara, Turkey, which teaches students with visual impairments. The data collection tool is composed of eight questions under the guidance of the definition for spatial visualization. Question types belonging to the spatial visualization subcomponent were organized in four topics: 2D rotation, 3D rotation, paper folding, and cube folding. Results: It was observed that students with visual impairments used mental rotation and key feature strategies for 2D rotation questions. They used the key feature strategy for 3D rotation questions and the mental manipulation strategy for cube folding and paper folding questions. Discussion: In this study, it was identified that strategies used by students with visual impairments show similarities with spatial strategies defined in the literature as used by students without visual impairments. Of all the other types of questions, the most successful question of students with visual impairments is the paper folding question. Implications for practitioners: The results of this article can help teachers become aware of the kind of difficulties that students with visual impairments encounter when they try to solve questions that require spatial ability.

One of the assessments in the learning processes is assessment of skills, the drawing is one of the competancy components standard of graduation in 2013 curriculum. However, teachers rarely do this assessment during the learning process instead microscopic practicum on abstract material including biology subjects. The research aim is to assess students' spatial visual intelligence on plant cell material and plant tissues, find out understanding concepts and student responses to apply spatial visual learning. The participants were 20 students SMA NW Pancor. Data collection used was students’ worksheets, and questionnaires. The data analysis was qualitative descriptive. The findings, spatial visual intelligence was seen when the teacher asked students to draw 2D cells and plant tissues before began to the core material, but did not appropriate with its’ original design. There are differences in the acquisition of scores on plant cell and tissue material, this proves that to help students' memory in making 2D images and understanding concepts, contextual media is needed such as by showing real objects and or it can also be done practicum. Therefore, the teacher can identify early about assessing the spatial visual competence, it was done by looking at the similarity of images made to the original, from the images made can be seen the students’ concepts mastery of the material being taught.

The research conducted aims to implement policies regarding the arrangement of railroad border areas, especially settlements located in Labuhan Ratu District based on Regional Regulation Number 4 of 2021-2041 concerning the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) of Bandar Lampung City. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The research was conducted along the railroad tracks in Labuhan Ratu Subdistrict. The data collection stage was carried out using field observation methods and interviews with resource persons both local residents and related parties. The results showed that the existence of settlements has become a problem in itself both for the safety of train travel and the security and quality of life of the community. This happens because the existing policies have not been implemented optimally, so there is a need for alternative policies in structuring residential areas located on the railroad border. his research provides a theoretical contribution in making alternative policy directions in structuring residential areas on the railroad border, especially in Labuhan Ratu District, Bandar Lampung City.

The diversity and structure of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera (EPT) assemblages in streams of Central Brazil (Serra dos Pireneus, Pirenópolis, State of Goiás) was investigated. Abundance data of EPT were obtained in Central-West Brazilian streams in order to evaluate the effect of spatial variability, including the effect of size of the stream and anthropic action, and seasonality (dry and rainy seasons) on faunal diversity and structure. The immatures were collected with circular sieves (0. 5 mm mesh) during one hour at five collection stations over 14 months. From a spatial point of view, the data showed that anthropic action determined the patterns of diversity whereas the size of streams (1st and 3rd-4th orders) determined the faunistic composition. In addition, environmental seasonality was an important factor for structuring the EPT fauna.

As core public spaces in cities, urban commercial pedestrian streets are important destinations for local residents and foreign tourists, and confusion regarding the visual space of a commercial pedestrian street sends direct environmental warning signals to pedestrians, affecting their visiting decisions. In this paper, through an investigation consisting of the artificial field simulation of the visual perception of pedestrians, we collect the corresponding street images and extract visual elements using the full convolutional network. Semantic segmentation is performed to obtain the visual parameters of the street. According to the quantitative model, the visual elements are matched with geographic elements, and a geographic information database is established to evaluate the spatial visual quality of commercial pedestrian streets. (1) There is obvious spatial heterogeneity in the spatial visual quality of different streets in commercial pedestrian streets. (2) The building heights, street widths, as well as the street vegetation, facilities, and landscape vignettes are spatial elements that shape the spatial visual quality of commercial pedestrian streets. (3) The main distribution of commercial facilities and the distribution of active businesses have an important impact on the degree of crowd gathering in a street space and the visual spatial quality of a street. This paper provides comparable data collection methods and research methods for the visual spatial quality of commercial pedestrian streets. This paper can also provide valuable data for the design, planning, and sustainable renewal management and regulation of the visual perception of commercial pedestrian streets.

The objective of this study was to investigate individual differences in cognitive styles related to spatial ability in order design computer interfaces which accommodated low spatial users. Seventy-four subjects were tested on spatial, visual and verbal cognitive tests. From the results of these tests, (12) subjects were selected and classified as low spatial/verbalizers and (12) as high spatial/visualizers. The two subject groups were tested on three interface designs: a graphical layout and an outline format, both intended to accommodate low spatial users, and a conventional hierarchical menu design. For each interface, the subjects completed (50) information search tasks. Duncan's Multiple Range comparisons (p<0.05) between the three interface designs indicated the following: in accordance with past studies, the performance of verbal subjects was 18% inferior to that of spatial subjects on the conventional interface which required subjects to self-induce the hierarchical system structure; by designing a graphical interface which provided the system structure and an interface with an outline format which eliminated the need for structuring, no differences were detected between the verbal and spatial groups. The implication was that the influences of individual differences in spatial ability on computer performance can be overcome by cognitively tailored interface designs.

The working hypothesis in this project is that gaze interactions play a central role in structuring the joint control and guidance strategy of the human operator performing spatial tasks. Perceptual guidance and control is the idea that the visual and motor systems form a unified perceptuo-motor system where necessary information is naturally extracted by the visual system. As a consequence, the response of this system is constrained by the visual and motor mechanisms and these effects should manifest in the behavioral data. Modeling the perceptual processes of the human operator provides the foundation necessary for a systems-based approach to the design of control and display systems used by remotely operated vehicles. This paper investigates this hypothesis using flight tasks conducted with remotely controlled miniature rotorcraft, taking place in indoor settings that provide rich environments to investigate the key processes supporting spatial interactions. This work also applies to spatial control tasks in a range of application domains that include tele-operation, gaming, and virtual reality. The human-in-the-loop system combines the dynamics of the vehicle, environment, and human perception–action with the response of the overall system emerging from the interplay of perception and action. The main questions to be answered in this work are as follows: (i) what is the general control and guidance strategy of the human operator, and (ii) how is information about the vehicle and environment extracted visually by the operator. The general approach uses gaze as the primary sensory mechanism by decoding the gaze patterns of the pilot to provide information for estimation, control, and guidance. This work differs from existing research by taking what have largely been conceptual ideas on action–perception and structuring them to be implemented for a real-world problem. The paper proposes a system model that captures the human pilot’s perception–action loop; the loop that delineates the main components of the pilot’s perceptuo-motor system, including estimation of the vehicle state and task elements based on operator gaze patterns, trajectory planning, and tracking control. The identified human visuo-motor model is then exploited to demonstrate how the perceptual and control functions system can be augmented to reduce the operator workload.

The article reviews the authors’ complex research of judicial symbolism. The meaning of the main judicial symbols, their formation, cultural and historical context in which they arose, issues of use the judicial symbols in social communications are considered in the article. Judicial symbolism includes actional, visual, verbal and spatial judicial symbols which could be classified according to the criterion of the way of the meaning’s transmission and perception. Actional symbols refer to the expression of meanings through action: this includes regulation of the judicial process, which has a certain order to be observed by the participants of the court hearing. Visual symbols represent certain elements of judicial symbolism, where the main is the visual perception, through which the appropriate interpretation of the symbolic meaning and understanding of the values of justice and the principle of the rule of law is carried out. This includes the robe, medallion, works of fine art as an aesthetically significant communication, in which the themes of the court are being interpreted. Verbal symbols – verbal standardized phrasing that mean respect for the court and present the judge (judges) as representatives of the state in whose name they administer justice. Spatial symbols mean structuring the courtroom and determining the semantics of the court building, in particular its interior design and exterior appearance, pointing out to the principles and values of justice. The above set of the means of representation of the symbols should be understood as a holistic text in which each type of judicial symbols is agreed and complemented with others, in order to achieve the main communicative objective, i.e. to convey the meaning of a fair justice, rule of law and respect for the court as an integral part of civil society. Judicial symbolism is characterized by systemic nature in which the individual elements are integrally connected and interdependent. The patterns of formation, structuring and understanding of individual elements of judicial symbolism should be analysed from the standpoint of a holistic vision of its purpose and objectives in the context of the communication process targeted at society.

Identification and analysis of patterns of recurring events is an essential feature of such tools. In this paper, we describe an interactive visual tool for exploring the visitation patterns of guests at two hotels in central Pennsylvania from 1894 to 1900. The centerpiece of the tool is a wrapping spreadsheet technique, called reruns, that reveals regular and irregular periodic patterns of events in multiple overlapping artificial and natural calendars. Implemented as a coordinated multiple view visualization in Improvise, the tool is in ongoing development through an iterative process of data collection, transcription, hypothesis, design, discovery, analysis, and evaluation in close collaboration with historical geographers. Numerous discoveries have driven additional data collection from archival newspaper and census sources, as well as plans to enhance analysis of spatial patterns using historic weather records and railroad schedules. Distributed online evaluations of usability and usefulness have resulted in feature and design recommendations that are being incorporated into the tool.

Habitat variability is an important factor structuring fish assemblages of rocky reefs in temperate Australia. Accepting the generality of this model requires that habitat-related variation is consistent through time, across multiple spatial scales, and applies to all life-history stages. We used repeated underwater visual surveys at multiple spatial scales over a 22-month period to test whether three distinct rocky-reef habitats had different wrasse assemblages and whether these assemblages were subject to spatial, temporal and ontogenetic variability. Overall, the strongest and most consistent habitat association was with sponge gardens, which had the most distinct assemblage, and the greatest species richness and density of individuals. Habitat associations in fringe and barrens were less consistent. A substantial increase in the abundance of small individuals, coinciding with warmer sea temperatures, contributed to temporal fluctuations in the density of wrasses. Overall, habitats were not strongly partitioned among larger individuals of the most abundant species, suggesting that adults are largely habitat generalists whereas small, recruiting individuals showed greater habitat specialisation. The present study emphasises the importance of incorporating spatial, temporal and ontogenetic variability into surveys of fish assemblages to understand more fully the dynamics of temperate rocky-reef systems.

This paper examines the meaning potential of directed forces or vectors in cinema. The first part draws on the pioneering work of Rudolf Arnheim to highlight the prominent role of vectors in the visual structuring of meaning in paintings. In the second part, we move on to explore the semantic significance of motion vectors in cinema. To this aim we first define and diagram the filmic space in which vectors may articulate themselves visually. Having firmly grounded this spatial framework in film theory, we adopt the terminology of Herbert Zettl to further distinguish between three types of motion vectors: primary motion vectors (elicited by motion of visual objects), secondary motion vectors (elicited by camera movement) and tertiary motion vectors (elicited by editing). We conclude this paper by applying the proposed conceptual tools of this paper to three filmic case-studies in which the relation between narrative meaning and motion vectors is further discussed and illustrated.

The subject of this research is visual communication. The goal of this research is to demonstrate the theory of designing visual culture artifacts in the images that possess communicative potential. Images are structured within a system of interrelated meanings that form holistic mages vividly illustrate semantic models to the people, which is the condition for easier visual perception of the form and content of the artifacts. The theory includes the three factors of visual communication: structuring of aesthetically expressive forms within the system of conventional meanings of the content; design of the spatial structure of artifacts using the universal cultural geometric language and artistic interpretations; creation of culturally significant information in the images using cognitive, artistic and symbolic signs of cultural languages. The novelty of consists in application of constructivist approach towards discrete encoding of the artifacts of visual culture within the system of meanings that represent content through the synthesis of shape of an aesthetically expressive image. Design education carries out a research of application of constructivist approach towards design of visual artifacts. The research results depended on the exhibition of the joint works of students from experimental and other students. The exhibition demonstrated that the works performed in architectonic style attract attention of the audience more than the works of other students. A constructivist approach towards design education contributes to optimization of visual communication with people.

If we consider the role of education and its implications in the formation of a critical and conscious user of architecture, it is obvious that the development of educational strategies related to the sustainable development of our common space and environment becomes fundamental. Among the objectives of art education, we should consider our commitment with authentic and actual problems in our societies. One of them is the awareness of the characteristics of the built environment. Our cities are, in fact, the results of time-space plasters that function as units of spatial experiences in everyday life. The oldest buildings are iconic points of reference, and their simple presence produces a collection of unique meanings to the collective memory of a culture. Their demolition would in many cases injure the cities’ images and memory. The main question is how to develop programs at all educational levels to promote critical and responsible attitudes towards the common environment covering all the aspects that shape the concepts of sustainable spatial development. However, it is not possible to create strategies without proper information about the views of the students. The collection and analysis of this views is the main theme of the paper. It is supported by an empirical research on the image of architecture and the environment, held among secondary school students. The research is based on the idea that one of the most efficient critical attitudes towards the world would be to develop an unconditional connection of art work with »everyday life conditions« to promote the education of critical and responsible »perceivers« of the environment.

With the development of the industry, a department store type has emerged in order to provide easy access to the products. department store; It is a variety that exhibits different product groups with multiple departments in a single architectural volume and is offered for sale, and started to be applied as of the 18th century. The first example is the Le Bon Marché department store in Paris, France. These large square meter stores, which are also a center of socialization, have gone to identity structuring as alternatives have emerged and even contain the same products. Le Bon March”, being the first of its kind, grew with increasing demand and went into professional structuring in order to differentiate itself from the environment, and it was revised by the important architects of the period. As a result of the visual identity it has created, it has started to host both fashion product sales and eating and drinking activities by hosting many brands. The sociality that has developed as of the 21st century has brought a new dimension to the exhibition spaces by reflecting in the commercial action. Department stores have turned into centers for arts organizations as well as selling products in this direction. Installation type, which is the application and expression type of art, started to take place in department stores at this stage. Le Bon Marché's deep historical value has turned the art of installation into an area where it will integrate with spatial identity. At this stage, the spatial identity of the installations in the departmental store, the artist and the applications exhibited by integrating with the style in his works are seen. In the study, which is considered within the scope of qualitative research, the exhibition techniques created on the basis of spatial identity are handled with case studies and literature support, and it is reached how the installations can be rationalized in the spatial identity of the department store. Spatial planning is very important because it is a public space so whether or not a street space will affect all road users. Structuring street space is to increase user experience so that the best place of public space is achieved. To get the best place, we need to accommodate and clearly define each user of the space. Bendi as a mode of transportation certainly uses street space as a means of motion space. And it requires a clear definition of the movement of the bendi in a physical order that can prevent violations of the rights of other street users both pedestrians and motorized vehicles. The purpose of this study is how the standard of road spatial planning for bendi. The method used in this study is the collection of field data through qualitative descriptive analysis with several indicators, namely Characteristics and space for bendi, spatial planning standards, street space settings. The design concept of bendi lane is proposed in 2 types, namely a special lane with a straight line divider on the Hasan Esa street, the Pahlawan revolusi street, and the Djabar Syah street and integration on the Ahmad Yani street and the Nukila street.

Courtyard space serves as the soul of traditional residences in Southern China, representing a gem in traditional Chinese architecture. Courtyards play a multifaceted role in architecture, including functions such as lighting, ventilation, water collection, solar radiation, and environmental beautification. This paper, building upon previous research and theoretical foundations, takes three types of courtyards in "Kong House" as the research subjects. Through methods like data collection, literature analysis, questionnaire surveys, and eye-tracking experiments, the study investigates the spatial experience of courtyard spaces in traditional residences. It quantitatively validates the design theory of courtyard spaces, analyzes the similarities and differences in spatial experiences among comprehensive courtyards, landscape courtyards, and functional courtyards, and concludes the study. The experiments indicate that incorporating courtyard spaces in traditional residences can effectively influence human behavior patterns and perceptual choices. Comprehensive courtyards typically stimulate more exploration and lingering behaviors. The combination of virtual reality and eye-tracking experiments provides valuable visual information and statistical data for analyzing human behavior and evaluating traditional residential design schemes.

Urban surroundings and spaces are losing their identity due to the flooded visual pollution in the urban panorama of already densely populated cities in developing countries. Quantitative assessment of visual pollution and its spatial mapping; both are very recent and relatively un-explored branches of urban studies. The diversity of visual pollution objects (VPOs) and their traits, the subjectivity of observers, the scale of urban space and dependency on subjective variables has been key challenges for quantification during visual pollution assessment. The researcher has previously developed a paper-based score-card type visual pollution assessment (VPA) tool using Analytical Hierarchy Process (under publication) to address these issues. However, considering the challenges associated with the deployment of paper-based tool for VPA (inability to handle variety of data types i.e. text, numeric, geolocation, images etc.), the natural progression has been the development of a mobile-based solution which matches the fast-growing mobile penetration rate of urban centers and provides a turn-key solution to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in primary data collection. On the other hand, academic research on the spatial mapping of visual pollution has slightly progressed to explore its cartographic dimension. This research presents a spatial decision support system comprising of a combination of open source tools to collect, store and present visual pollution assessment data for any urban space of any scale. The system employs Open Data Kit (ODK) to build its mobilebased VPA tool which can be used to collect VPO attributes using any android device. The collected data is streamed to a web-based data management module of the system in real time which is built upon ODK Aggregate and PostgreSQL. Furthermore, the web-based visualization module of the system is built upon some other major open source tools including OpenGeo Suite and PHP. The visualization module presents the results of visual pollution index (VPI) in the form of a web-based dashboard containing real-time choropleth maps which can be filtered for any specific VPO.This research demonstrates the strengths of open geospatial tools to solve challenges of primary data collection on a diverse range of VPOs along with the systematic capturing of their spatial location and visual images. Furthermore, it proves the ability of open source web mapping tools to display visual pollution assessments in most appropriate cartographic representation.

In spatial planning processes, the different aspects of human interactions involving political circumstances, social, economics, historical and cultural objectives can be understood through maps or spatial visualisations, because those media can illustrate abstract phenomena into visual images. Spatial data has a role to play in spatial governance by providing thematic spatial information and analysis at all authority scales. Furthermore, spatial data and information are prerequisites for any participation in planning deliberation helping to create consensus. This paper investigates the role of spatial data and information in Indonesian spatial planning process using archival research method. The empirical studies take a qualitative approach in analysing the results of data collection from fieldwork observation through collecting legal documents and internal institutional reports. Synchronization and consistency between development plan and spatial plan must be ensured in every interrelated spatial policy, so that the various implementation efforts do not lead to conflict. Furthermore, spatial data and information has a crucial role in translating the development strategies into the implementation of the development programme for the implementation of the government's agenda.

In 1966, the government-sponsored Plan Organization commissioned the first Tehran Master Plan (TMP), setting the stage for the Iranian capital’s extensive transformation and its spatial and social re-structuring. In the process, Abdolaziz Farmanfarmaian, an Iranian architect, collaborated with Victor Gruen Associates of the United States to implement lessons from Gruen’s urban model, the ‘Cellular Metropolis of Tomorrow’, in a reorganization of the socio-spatial structure of Tehran. After a three-year study of the city’s socio-economic and physical organization, the planners proposed decentralization of the congested old city centre and the development of new ‘modern’ centres of activity along a rapid transit line extending westward. This article engages with ongoing discourses on inclusive cities and reflects upon the segregating effects of boundary-edges to argue that the planners’ emphasis on locating urban facilities in the centre of communities led them to ignore emerging dead edges between socially divided neighbourhoods, ultimately hindering social interactions. The allocation of these edges to urban infrastructure, highways, urban voids, and large green spaces isolated and insulated each community from the larger urban area. Through the analysis of the TMP’s reports, this article reveals how the modernist planners mediated the creation of socio-physical boundaries, segmented the city, and increased social exclusivity.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of constructive play and visual-spatial intelligence on early mathematical abilities. The approach used is quantitative through an experimental method with 2x2 treatment by level design. This research was conducted on children in kindergarten group B in the city of Padang. The sampling technique uses Stratified cluster random sampling. The number of samples in this study were 40 children. Data collection in this study used an initial mathematical ability test and a spatial visual intelligence test. The data analysis technique in this study used two-way ANOVA to see the main effects and interactions, then using the Tukey test to see simple effects. The results of this study are as follows: 1) Early mathematical abilities provided with constructive games Lego have a higher influence than constructive games Beams (Fhitung= 5,16 > Ftabe (α=0,05)= 4,04). 2) There is an interaction between constructive play and spatial visual intelligence, in general it has a significant effect on the early math skills of kindergarten children in group B (Fhitung = 13,34 > Ftabel (α=0,05) = 4,04). 3) Early mathematical abilities that have high spatial visual intelligence with given constructive games Lego are higher than the initial mathematical abilities with constructive games (Qhitung = 4,24 > Qtabel (α=0,05) = 3,15). 4) Early mathematical abilities that have low spatial visual intelligence with given constructive games Beams have a higher value than the initial mathematical abilities given by constructive games Lego (Qhitung = -2,30 > Qtabel (α=0,05) = -3,15).

A GIS-based modelling system was developed for cost optimization of energy generation, and for sample analyses of the spatial distribution of biomass potential from crop residues and agro-industrial waste at block level in Punjab. The interface between GIS and Visual basic was developed for calculating optimized size and location of primary collection centres and energy generation centres for biomass management. A non-linear optimization technique using simplex method was adopted for cost optimization through coding in GIS-VB interface. Total potential estimate of biomass for power generation in Punjab was 30.27 Mt, major contribution being from paddy straw (65.13%), wheat straw (22.73%), paddy husk (8.44%) and cotton stalk (1.88%). Total potential power generation from surplus biomass was estimated to be 2000 MW. The biomass intensity of surplus biomass for energy generation varied between 2.25 t.ha-1 and 11.07 t.ha-1. The total biomass requirement per year for a 10 MW plant was estimated. The biomass management model successfully suggested the location of various power plants and collection centres as also optimised sizes of the collection centres.

In the 1950s, exotica was a genre of pop music that specialized in depicting imaginary exotic paradises and conventionalized natives. By the late 1960s, exotica pop had disappeared, but its tropes of temporal and spatial disjuncture persisted, structuring the music, visual art, and social theory of the utopian counterculture. While 1950s and 1960s kinds of exotica differ in their preferred imaginary destinations, both raise the question of what intermediate shades between belief and disbelief are demanded by aestheticized representations of human life. This essay theorizes exotica as a mode of representation governed by a peculiar mode of reception——one of willed credulity enabled by submission to its spectacle. What exotica demands is what intellectuals are least likely to give, though, and the peculiar pleasures of exotica spectacle are denigrated or rendered invisible in the hermeneutic regime.

Humans are able to form a complex mental model of the environment they move in. This mental model captures geometric and semantic aspects of the scene, describes the environment at multiple levels of abstractions (e.g., objects, rooms, buildings), includes static and dynamic entities and their relations (e.g., a person is in a room at a given time). In contrast, current robots’ internal representations still provide a partial and fragmented understanding of the environment, either in the form of a sparse or dense set of geometric primitives (e.g., points, lines, planes, and voxels), or as a collection of objects. This article attempts to reduce the gap between robot and human perception by introducing a novel representation, a 3D dynamic scene graph (DSG), that seamlessly captures metric and semantic aspects of a dynamic environment. A DSG is a layered graph where nodes represent spatial concepts at different levels of abstraction, and edges represent spatiotemporal relations among nodes. Our second contribution is Kimera, the first fully automatic method to build a DSG from visual–inertial data. Kimera includes accurate algorithms for visual–inertial simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), metric–semantic 3D reconstruction, object localization, human pose and shape estimation, and scene parsing. Our third contribution is a comprehensive evaluation of Kimera in real-life datasets and photo-realistic simulations, including a newly released dataset, uHumans2, which simulates a collection of crowded indoor and outdoor scenes. Our evaluation shows that Kimera achieves competitive performance in visual–inertial SLAM, estimates an accurate 3D metric–semantic mesh model in real-time, and builds a DSG of a complex indoor environment with tens of objects and humans in minutes. Our final contribution is to showcase how to use a DSG for real-time hierarchical semantic path-planning. The core modules in Kimera have been released open source.

Based on preliminary study data at Yadika 8 Jatimulya Vocational School, it was found that mathematics scores, especially in understanding and solving geometric problems, were still low. This information was obtained through documentation studies and interviews with mathematics teachers in class X majoring in AKL-1, who revealed students' difficulties in understanding and solving geometry problems. Even after the material and examples have been taught, students still experience difficulties when faced with new questions with changes in numbers and question patterns. Their ability to analyze story problems and picture questions and relate them to objects around them is also relatively low. In response to these findings, this research aims to describe the spatial abilities of students who have visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles. This research is entitled "Analysis of Spatial Visual Ability in Solving Geometry Problems in View of the Learning Style of Class X Students of Vocational School Yadika 8 Jatimulya" and applies descriptive research methods with a qualitative approach. Research subjects were selected using a purposive sampling technique, namely with certain considerations after giving a learning style questionnaire to all class X students at SMK Yadika 8 Jatimulya. One class was selected that had students with three different learning styles: visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. Next, students were given a written test on flat-sided spatial figures to measure their spatial abilities, and unstructured interviews were used as a data collection method. The results showed variations in students' visual spatial abilities based on their learning styles. Students with a visual learning style have good abilities in imagination, concepts, problem solving, and searching for visual patterns. Students with an auditory learning style have good abilities in concepts and problem solving, although their imagination is less strong. Students with a kinesthetic learning style seem to face difficulties in all aspects of visual-spatial abilities. In addition, the test results show that the majority of students have a moderate level of visual spatial ability. They are able to understand geometric concepts and apply them well, but there are some students who show low visual spatial abilities that require further attention. The research results also revealed a correlation between students' learning styles and their visual spatial abilities. Students with a visual learning style tend to have higher visual-spatial abilities than students with an auditory or kinesthetic learning style. This highlights the importance of understanding students' learning styles in designing effective learning strategies. Overall, this research emphasizes the importance of visual spatial abilities in solving geometric problems and the influence of students' learning styles on these abilities. This has important implications in developing learning strategies that suit individual student learning styles, especially in the context of learning geometry at SMK Yadika 8 Jati Mulya. Teachers can utilize the results of this research to design more effective learning approaches and increase the potential of each student.

Abstract The advent of super-resolution techniques in biological microscopy has opened new frontiers for exploring the molecular distribution of proteins and small molecules in cells. Improvements in optical design and innovations in the approaches for the collection of fluorescence emission have produced substantial gains in signal from chemical labels and fluorescent proteins. Structuring the illumination to elicit fluorescence from specific or even random patterns allows the extraction of higher order spatial frequencies from specimens labeled with conventional probes. Application of this approach to plant systems for super-resolution imaging has been relatively slow owing in large part to aberrations incurred when imaging through the plant cell wall. In this brief review, we address the use of two prominent methods for generating super-resolution images in living plant specimens and discuss future directions for gaining better access to these techniques.

The aim of this paper is to interpret the term Aquatecture in the design process for Zone 8 of Belgrade Linear Park, as a case study for understanding the concept and methodology used, as well as their application in operational architectural and urban practice. The paper describes the methodological procedure applied to structuring the space using water, with the aim of designing ambiences inspired by nature. This methodological experiment is illustrated with graphical representations of the process itself, in which the colors and shapes of water are analyzed through the observation of water droplets under the microscope. The research hypothesis is that one drop of water contains information important for architectural activities, and therefore the research offers a set of procedures and methods that can be applied and controlled through the creative act of coloring and shaping, or more precisely the creation of Spatial Images. The methodological procedure in the research can be described as poetic and artistic, at the same time containing a scientific element in the analysis and observation of the water sample under the microscope. All other visual perceptual observations and results in the interpretation of the observed environment and the water droplets, as well as their colors and shapes, are offered as extremely intuitive. The research is presented in the form of a Tableau consisting of seven parts and a set of photographs, drawings and images, as well as tone maps (color palette), according to which the results are applied through Spatial Images. Spatial images are interpreted as Ambience inspired by nature, at a specific location: Zone 8 of Belgrade Linear Park, as a case study for researching this methodological procedure. The data obtained in this way is applied in the structuring of the park's aquatecture and pavilions. The waterflows in the park itself are explained in the text, as well as the spatial structures such as the landscape fountain on the square and the main park pavilion itself, which is interpreted as a one-of-a-kind House of water. Therefore, as a product of the work, an environmental project inspired by nature is offered as the Aquatecture of Zone 8 in Belgrade Linear Park, illustrating the practical application of water as a methodological tool, and an inspiration in the processes of architectural design and water space structuring. In this way, the case study of the Conceptual Architectural and Urban Design of Zone 8 of the Linear Park in Belgrade offers new interpretations and understandings of Aquatecture in Belgrade in professional practice. More precisely, it re-examines ways of applying and understanding the concepts of the Blue Green Dream (BGD) and Nature Based Solutions (NBS) in shaping public spaces in the city.

The geographic patterns of genetic variation in a wide variety of quantitative traits were studied in Eucalyptus globulus ssp. globulus and its intergrades, leading to a revised racial classification. The analysis was based on 35 traits assessed in five field trials in northern Tasmania from approximately 500 open-pollinated families, encompassing 49 collection localities in native stands. There were significant differences between the collection localities for most traits. While growth and survival traits exhibited weak spatial structuring, there were clear regional patterns in bark thickness, wood basic density, flowering precocity and some aspects of juvenile leaf morphology. There were a number of significant correlations between trait locality means, but few simple correlations between the regional patterns observed and climate. Multivariate analyses indicated that the localities could be effectively amalgamated into larger, geographically concordant races. A hierarchy of five major groupings of 13 races and 20 subraces is proposed to account for most of the quantitative genetic variation while allowing for outliers and intermediate populations. Some areas of the distribution may need further sampling to more accurately elucidate their racial affinities, especially those with traits of high economic importance.
