In asking ‘How do queer Palestinian womyn ‘queer’ Palestinian identity”, the present research focuses on the various forms of traditional, narrative, and creative resistance practices of Palestinian womyn who challenge the following three narratives: 1) the national narrative which tags ‘queer’ as ‘Other’ and which posits the national movement at the top of the hierarchy of struggles; 2) the colonial narrative which is sustained by the Israeli public relations campaigns aiming to portray Israel as a modern, progressive, safe gay haven for queers, in opposition to a Palestine and Arab World which are said to be integrally homophobic, barbaric, regressive, etc. in an attempt to ‘pinkwash’ the occupation; and 3) the neocolonial narrative in which Western and Israeli Jewish queer movements reproduce colonial dynamics in their attempt to ‘save’ Palestinian queers who are deemed to be powerless, voiceless victims in need of saving.

Our current research work aims to identify all the specificities surrounding and characterizing the Peruvian translation of the French Jesuit Pierre Le Moyne’s work: The Gallery of heroick women published in France in 1647 and released in the viceroyalty of Peru in 1702. It is through this rare piece that we wished to embody and problematize our questioning on the multiple relationships between the national identity which was in formation process, Peruvian female identity and franco-peruvian cultural and literary relations. The choice of the study of this book is not only the result of personal inclinations, but constitutes, in our opinion, an emblematic example of the religious, cultural and political use of a literary, artistic and moral document. The 1702 edition is a significant illustration of the dynamic links existing between a literary and an artistic work and its historical context, from the point of view of its inspirations, its roots and its resonances with a given era. In their living forms, these literary and historical links refer as much to the discourses on the social status of women and its mutations, as to the active role that some of the protagonists of the Peruvian publication had within this very period. Thus, beyond the resonance between the original version and the Peruvian version of the text, the main artisans of the Castilian translation of the book were mainly embodied by Pierre Le Moyne, author and poet who accounted for the book , as well as the creoles, don Fernando Bravo de Lagunas translator of the Peruvian version, author of a remarkable dedication; Fray Miguel Adame de Montemayor, engraver and painter who evolved between the seventeenth and eighteenth century and realized the engravings for the Peruvian edition of the text of 1702 and Joseph de Contreras y Alvarado, printer and publisher, which made possible the publication of this first French text translated and published in the viceroyalty of Peru

In this doctoral dissertation, we are studying a selection of both Mexican and French literary works related to the historic events of the Second French Intervention in Mexico (1862-1867) and of the Second Mexican Empire (1864-1867). This body of works has been published between the XIXth and the XXIth century and has been selected, both because their poetic and political thoughts are emblematic of this period and because they have contributed to the construction of a Mexican cultural and identity iconography. We have decided to select the fiction and theatrical genres, to carry out a comparative and diachronic analysis. The decision of which literary works and authors to include has been made based on how both the French Intervention and the way it has been depicted in literature, have been dealt with in particular in each literary work and each author we considered to studied. The studied novels belong to the sub-genre of serialized fiction in the XIXth century with, on the French side, Benito Vázquez (1869) by Lucien Biart and Doña Flor (1877) by Gustave Aimard and, on the Mexican side, Clemencia (1869) by Manuel Altamirano and El Cerro de las Campanas (1868) by Juan Mateos. As far as theatre plays are concerned, we have carried out a comparative study of both Corona de Sombra (1943) by Rodolfo Usigli and Charlotte et Maximilien (1945) by Maurice Rostand. We have completed our analysis with a complementary study of El Tuerto es Rey (1970) by Carlos Fuentes. Regarding more contemporaneous historic and literary creations, we chose to include Noticias del Imperio (1987) by Fernando del Paso and Yo, el francés by Jean Meyer (2002). This corpus allows to carry out a comparative, linguistic, semiotic and literary analysis of afore-mentioned works. Such analysis calls for a thorough reflection on the interpretation of conflict, an armed and political conflict which influenced both History and Mexican and French literary productions

Rather than being an account of 'South Americanism' to echo Edward Said's Orientalism (1978), this study of books about South America in English literature attempts to make the critical and methodological distinctions which would be essential to such an account. Its examination of the geography of the 'South America' of the European imagination therefore begins by using Roland Barthcs' model - from Mythologies (1957) - of sinile as the cliched popular stereotype of China, la Chine, in order to differentiate the physical reality of the Southern American continent from the literary worlds which have been promulgated under that title. The textual strategics adopted to sustain (or subvert) these 'mythological' assumptions in a number of representative works - ranging in era from Aphra Bchn's Orouiwko (1688) to Angela Carter's The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman (1972), and in genre from Darwin's Journal of Researches (1839) to Conrad's Nostromo (1904) - are then detailed. Authors arc examined individually, in terms of their cultural and generic context, but each book has also been chosen to contribute to an overall picture of methods of presenting the 'alien' in Western writing. To this end, authors such as W.H. Hudson, John Maseficld, R.B. Cunninghame Graham and Elizabeth Bishop arc contrasted with analogous Latin American writers - D.F. Sarmicnto, Alejo Carpenlier, Mario Vargas Llosa and Euclides da Cunha. In the final analysis, this is a study of the various ways in which the words 'South America' can act as the ideological or meaning-giving centre of a text. It is therefore not surprising that only the letter of the works under discussion - their own conception of this relationship - is found to be adequate to the complexity of the mimetic problems raised as a result.

A look into song identity and the building blocks of music through a process of analysing five different punk songs and then repackaging them into a modern pop production. After completing these new versions, I compared them to their original recordings and discovered that there are more similarities between the two genres than one might initially think, and that each song’s identity was preserved on slightly different levels and in different forms. I discuss my analyses and process in terms of both music theory and non-musical descriptions, leading to generally positive results. Each song was recognizable, but I discovered that some identities were stronger than others because of factors such as original arrangement, era of release or differences in experience from person to person.

In the last two decades, Seventh-day Adventist scholars have been attempting to articulate a balanced and distinct ecclesiology, aimed at helping the denomination to retain its global unity, maintain its relevance and enable a more fruitful and meaningful interaction with others. No comprehensive account of the church has been developed yet, however. This thesis is intended to facilitate a more rounded and systematically articulated concept of church from an Adventist perspective. Part I presents a thumbnail history of the denomination and considers the advantages and limitations of its standard claim to be the 'remnant', awaiting a pre-millennial parousia. Part II engages with the ideas of some of the ablest communio ecclesiologists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and considers their ecclesiological system, built around the concept of koinonia, while Part III examines ways in which their theoretical framework can assist the Adventist community to deal with practical ecclesial issues. Four major proposals are made for deepening Adventist understanding of the nature of church. Whereas the formal structure of communio framework can help Adventists move beyond one-sided, single-metaphor communal self-descriptions, the idea of the church as essentially a koinonia of believers in God can supplement their predominantly functionalist portrayal of the church as herald or messenger. Thirdly, the Adventist notion of truth can be enriched by viewing the community of believers not only as a messenger, but also as an organic part of divine revelation. This makes ecclesiology central to the theological enterprise, intrinsic to the grounding of theological claims and the interpretation of biblical texts. Finally, the development of a richer interpretation of the Spirit's activity in the church is seen as one of the key prerequisites for a fuller, more nuanced account of the church's participation in the life of the triune God. The highlighting of these four aspects, hitherto neglected or underdeveloped in Adventism, and the presentation of tentative solutions to its ongoing ecclesiological problems, form the principal contribution of this monograph.

Motorcycle riding is rapidly increasing in popularity in Australia, attracting a much wider demographic of people than in decades past. Unfortunately, whilst the overall road toll in Australia has generally been reducing, the proportion of motorcycle-related fatalities has been rising in recent years. Further, the proportion of motorcycle-related fatalities in Australia is unacceptably high compared to other OECD countries. To reduce motorcycle-related fatalities on Australian roads, there is an urgent need to consider motorcyclists as distinct from other road users. This program of research facilitates the understanding of safety issues from a motorcyclist perspective and provides important information on factors influencing safe and unsafe rider intentions and behaviour.----- Study 1 explored what motorcyclists thought about the issues relevant to safety and to risk-taking behaviour on a motorcycle. The aim of this study was to develop a better understanding of the factors which influence on-road riding behaviour. Using the theory of planned behaviour (TPB), identity theory, social identity theory, and items based on moral norm and causal attribution theory, a set of questions was developed to guide focus group discussions with riders, police, rider trainers, and an advocacy group for motorcycle safety. Of the 43 participants in this study, only two were not motorcycle riders. This exploratory process revealed six common behaviours that most motorcyclists agreed were essential to safety or which related directly to riskier riding.----- Two behaviours were identified as being essential to rider safety by participants. The first was the necessity of being able to handle the motorcycle proficiently and skilfully. The second related to the need for riders to maintain a high level of concentration whilst riding and to stay aware of the changing road environment.----- The safety or riskiness of two other behaviours mentioned became a matter of debate amongst participants. First, some riders said that obeying the road rules was essential to their safety, whilst others reported that it was often necessary to break the road rules in order to stay safe. Second, the definition of what constituted 'riding whilst impaired' differed amongst riders. Most riders agreed that 'drinking and riding' was dangerous. However, for some, even one alcoholic drink before riding was considered dangerous, whilst others would ride after drinking provided they did not consider themselves to be over the legal BAC limit. Some riders stated that riding when they were tired was dangerous; however, fatigue was not considered a serious safety issue for many participants.----- Two further behaviours identified by participants were often associated with their accounts of crash involvement, yet not seen as intrinsically 'unsafe' by most riders. The first of these was the concept of 'pushing your limits'. Most riders interviewed appeared to enjoy pushing the limits of their ability on a motorcycle. Whilst agreeing that pushing the limits too far was dangerous, pushing them to a point that tested a rider's abilities was often reported to facilitate safety as this process developed a rider's skill. The second behaviour that was often mentioned in connection with crashes was extreme riding (e.g., performing stunts and riding at extreme speeds). The act of perfecting a stunt was often reported to result in the crashing of the motorcycle; although, these crashes were usually accepted as a normal part of the learning process. Once perfected, performing stunts did not appear to be considered an intrinsically unsafe behaviour; unless performed in traffic or other unpredictable situations. A sizable minority of both male and female participants reported riding at extreme speeds. These riders often argued that they could ride extremely fast, safely, on public roads provided certain conditions were met (e.g., good visibility, weather, road, and motorcycle maintenance).----- Study 2 [n = 229] operationalised the six behaviours discussed above into three 'safer' behavioural intentions (i.e., handle the motorcycle skilfully, maintain 100% awareness, not ride impaired) and three 'riskier' intentions (i.e., bend road rules, push the limits, perform stunts or ride at extreme speeds). A seventh item was added to provide a global measure of a rider's intention to ride safely. Multiple regression analyses were then performed to test the predictive utility of the TPB compared with several augmented models. The additional constructs used to augment the TPB included a specific subjective norm and group norm which related to the people a person rides with, self identity, sensation seeking, aggression as well as age, gender and riding exposure. The multiple regression analysis demonstrated that a greater proportion of variance could be explained in the case of the riskier riding intentions [R2 ranging from 57% - 66%] than the safer riding intentions [R2 ranging from 22% - 36%]. Therefore, this type of theoretical model may be better suited to investigating deliberate risk-taking intentions rather than an overall model of rider behaviour which includes errors and lapses or intentions to ride safely.----- In the final analyses, perceived behavioural control (PBC) proved to be a significant predictor of all four intentions towards the safer behaviours, and also towards intentions to "push my limits". Attitude was a significant predictor of the three riskier intentions. Although the standard subjective norm variable performed weakly, as it was only predictive of one intention, the specific subjective norm (i.e., the people that someone rides with) emerged as a significant predictor of four of the seven intention items and group norm was predictive of an additional intention item. This result indicates that the other people a person rides with may have a marked effect on behavioural intentions. Sensation seeking was found to be significantly related to four intentions, self identification as a safe or risky rider related to two intentions and a propensity for aggression was only significantly predictive of one intention.----- Study 2 did not find a significant relationship between the seven intentions and past crash history. However, correlational analyses found that people who had reported being involved in a serious crash in the past two years reported less PBC over their ability to ride as safely as possible and to perform stunts and/or ride at extreme speeds.----- In conclusion, this program of research provided insight into the issues riders feel are important to their safety, and has facilitated a greater understanding of the complexity of influences that impact on riding intentions and behaviour. The study also provided support for extending the traditional TPB model to include other measures of social influence, as well as person-related factors such as sensation seeking. The fact that PBC emerged as a predictor of five of the seven intentions suggests that there may be scope to enhance existing training practices to better address both safe and risky riding intentions. The influence of other riders also emerged as a strong influence on intentions, suggesting that strategies to address rider behaviour within the wider social context of riding may be a useful addition to future motorcycle safety or rider training initiatives. The social dynamics of motorcycle riding, within the context of road safety, is an area that clearly requires more investigation. Research into this area may provide the key to developing new approaches to promoting motorcycle safety which effectively integrate both the psychological and sociological aspects of riding; therefore, better reflecting the real challenges facing many riders on Australian roads today.

A partition of a positive integer n is a decreasing sequence of positive integers such that their sum is equal to n. The integers which appear in this sequence are called the parts of this partition. My thesis studies the partitions of integers and the identities between them. A partition identity is an equality between the number of partitions of an integer n satisfying a certain condition A and the number of partitions of n satisfying another condition B. They play an important role in many areas: number theory, combinatorics, Lie theory, particle physics and statistical mechanics. One of these identities is as follows: Theorem. (The first Rogers-Ramanujan identity) The number of partitions of a positive integer n with no equal or consecutive parts is equal to the number of partitions of n into parts 1 or 4(mod.5). In this work, we study partition identities using the relation between the combinatorics of partitions and the combinatorics of graded algebras associated to an important object of algebraic geometry: arc spaces. Given a field k of characteristic zero and polynomials f1,…,fm in k[x1,…, xn], the associated arc space is the space corresponds to the ideal I of S:=k[x1j,…, xnj|j>-1], generated by the coefficients of some developments associated to the above polynomials and the variables xij. For focussed arcs, which is when we take xi0 = 0 for i=1,…,n, the Hilbert-Poincaré series of the graded algebra S\I is closely related to partitions of integers satisfying conditions depending on I. In the case where f(x) = x^r in k[x], the ideal I of k[x1, x2,… ] is a differential ideal for the derivation D(xi) = xi+1, in the sens that DI is included in I. In fact it is generated by x1^r and all its iterated derivatives. We show that when r = 2 the computation of a Gröbner basis of I with respect to the weighted lexicographical monomial order is related with an identity involving the partitions that appear in the first Rogers-Ramanujan identity. We then prove that a Gröbner basis of this ideal is not differentially finite in contrary with the case of the weighted reverse lexicographical order. We give a prove from this point of view of Gordon’s identities which is a family of important partitions identities. Using differential ideals we state a conjecture which could add a new member to Gordon’s identities. we prove then this conjecture for a special case. At the end, we give a simple and direct proof of a theorem of Nguyen Duc Tam about the Gröbner basis of the differential ideal [x1y1]; we then obtain identities involving partitions with 2 colors

My thesis gives a Central-Eastern European reading of the development of Dunn's poetic representations of Scotland, with special emphasis on the uses of landscape and nature poetry, including versions of the pastoral. Pragmatically, my reading of Dunn's work moves in the dual paradigm of nationality and internationalism, as I aim to illustrate in what ways these parallel affinities may enrich our readings by supplementing or on occasion complicating each other. This binary context is also essential to my procedure, in that national identity forms a part of my subject matter and my point of view as a Hungarian reader involves an international perspective. My hypothesis is that Dunn's poetry, inasmuch as it speaks for the autonomy of imagination, is paradigmatic for the (re)formulation of an authentic but internationally minded Scottish literature. As understanding the motives behind its images abroad may inform a nation that wants to reshape its cultural position, I seek to offer feedback by reading Dunn's representations of Scotland from a Continental angle, as distinguished from habitual British or Scottish readings. I address myself to the problems of literary provincialism, regionalism and inner emigration as potential sources of lyrical self-emancipation. I also investigate Dunn's transgression of secular apprehensions of landscape and chronology, which enables both the identity construction of the place in the present tense and the constant deferral of this identity to an indefinite future. I assume that in the course of this deferral nationality evolves into the subject of an open-ended semantic negotiation. In general terms, I aim to challenge conventional beliefs about the relationship between the public and private responsibilities of poetry by considering the ways in which history, place and nationality converge in the voice of an essentially lyrical poet.

From a broader perspective this cross-disciplinary and cross cultural thesis examines the relationships between identity, ideology and propaganda and their influence over the production of private and public memories. This examination is carried out through a case study investigating various representations of the Czech RAF airmen from selected British and Czech WW2 newspapers approached as an archive of memory, and from individual recollections of the Czech veterans – the living archive of memory. These representations in the context of this research become interacting versions of public and private memory which in a unique way and yet equally contribute towards the historical construction of the Second World War. This thesis proposes that the various versions of memory, in Rothberg’s (2009) words ‘multidirectional memory’, are a consequence of versioning, a constant creation and re-creation of different versions of memory due to numerous influences on the producers of such memory. However, this research also considers a presence of Second World War discourse, which underpinned public and private memory and transcended collective memories of the Britishness and Czechness forming a transnational or cross cultural (Radstone, 2010) WW2 memory. In other words, this project draws upon current theories about non competitive multiple, transnational and mediated memory (Dijck, 2007) and extends upon these by considering their existence within a potentially unifying WW2 discourse within which they connect and disconnect. By doing so, this thesis challenges master narratives of history. These memories are also seen as a base for multi-layered identity of the ones who remembered and had the right to remember. Furthermore this study explores the potential reasons behind the creation of the discovered qualitative treasure of this project The Czechoslovak, a small community newspaper produced by the Czech minority living in Britain during the WW2. The theoretical underpinning as well as the methodology of the project attempt to interrogate media studies, oral history and memory studies in order to create a most pertinent space in which the written and oral memory is explored effectively. This merger of theories and methodologies allowed me to investigate the various memories within the context of the WW2 and thus construct them from the past perspective when they were being created. A discourse analysis of selected British and Czech WW2 newspapers (The Times, Daily Mirror, News of the World and The Czechoslovak) has been employed distinguishing between traditional and tabloidised newspaper representations and investigating to what extend the Czechs were portrayed as the ‘other’ or the heroes in the British society. The outcome of this analysis was a discovery that the Czech RAF airmen had not been given much prominence in the British newspapers and that their representations varied according to the different type of newspaper and the different period of the war in which they were produced. Moreover, ideology, propaganda and the notion of Czech and British identity present in the newspapers played an important role in the creation of public memory versions of the Czech RAF airmen’s images. Besides newspapers, this study took the opportunity to reveal very fragile and valuable private recollections of the Czech WW2 RAF veterans (six former members of the Czech RAF settled in Britain after the WW2 and 1 widow were interviewed in the summer 2008); the men who played an important role in the success of the Allies in WW2. By doing this, the former Czech airmen were given a voice and the chance to contribute towards existing knowledge about the Czechs in the RAF and the Second World War. The various versions of the past produced by their private memory have been investigated in the view of various factors influencing these versions: notably their identity, war ideology, propaganda, and forgetting and in relation to WW2 media. Considering the occurrence of versioning, when critically reflecting upon all different memories, I position myself as a researcher into the shoes of yet another producer of another version of the past. Thus, this study creates a space where various, sometimes contrasting memories do not fight for recognition, but where official collective memory and individual memory influence each other and also enrich each other whilst they co-construct a historical representation of the past.

The purpose of this study was to explore the factor difference between the Japanese version of Abbreviated Multidimensional Acculturation Scale (AMAS-ZABB-JP) (AMAS-ZABB: Zea et al., 2003) and the Multigroup Ethnic Identity Measure (MEIM-JP) (MEIM: Phinney, 1992), with Japanese sojourners and immigrants to the U.S. This is a pilot study to translate the scale into Japanese using methods recommended by Marìn and Marìn (1991). The participants for this study were 273 Japanese sojourners and immigrants to the U.S. The results indicated that the AMAS-ZABB-JP may have sufficient psychometrics regarding content, construct and concurrent validity and reliability. In order to increase its significance, further studies are necessary.

The presence of two or more languages in audiovisual texts symbolizes an intercultural encounter between social and cultural realities. Likewise, in audiovisual products, multilingualism has been considered a linguistic and social phenomenon that constitutes a central part in the narrative of the plot due to identity or distinctive reasons. In the context of the series, bilingualism constitutes a representative identity trait of the Mexican-American community settled in the United States. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the translation of English-Spanish bilingualism and its impact on the representation of Mexican-American identity in the French dubbing of the series Gentefied (2020). The research is a case study as it seeks to explain and analyze the linguistic phenomenon and identity representation portrayed in the series. For this purpose, we will resort to data collection techniques such as content analysis and contrastive textual analysis. The former will allow the identification of the units of analysis of the source text in Spanglish that show representative traits of the characters; and the second, the contrast between them and the units of analysis of the target text in Frañol.

Editing Middle High German texts today is led much more by the ventilation of practical necessities than by theoretical consideration. Especially lacking discussions of a basic concept of ›text‹ raises the risk of developing blind spots. The article will try to identify these blind spots as places where the traditional strategy of editing texts on the basis of the faulty-replication model persists. This will be illustrated by new editions of the ›Wunderer‹ and the ›Rosengarten‹. Furthermore, the article evolves a semiotic model of the philological praxis of editing Middle High German heroic epics.

This Ph. D. thesis investigates the use of fantasy by British and Irish 'Decadent' authors and illustrators, including Oscar Wilde, Max Beerbohm, Aubrey Beardsley, 'Vernon Lee' (Violet Paget), Ernest Dowson, and Charles Ricketts. Furthermore, this study demonstrates why fantasy was an apposite form for literary Decadence, which is defined in this thesis as a supra-generic mode characterized by its anti-mimetic impulse, its view of language as autonomous and artificial, its frequent use of parody and pastiche, and its transgression of boundaries between art forms. Literary Decadence in the United Kingdom derives its view of autonomous language from Anglo-German Romantic philology and literature, consequently being distinguished from French Decadence by its resistance to realism and Naturalism, which assume language's power to signify the 'real world'. Understanding language to be inorganic, Decadent writers blithely countermand notions of linguistic fitness and employ devices such as catachresis, paradox, and tautology, which in turn emphasize the self-referentiality of Decadent texts. Fantasy furthers the Decadent argument about language because works of fantasy bear no specific relationship to 'reality'; they can express anything evocable within language, as J.R.R. Tolkien demonstrates with his example of "the green sun" (a phrase that can exist independent of the sun's actually being green). The thesis argues that fantasy's usefulness in underscoring arguments about linguistic autonomy explains its widespread presence in Decadent prose and visual art, especially in genres that had become associated with realism and Naturalism, such as the novel (Chapter 1), the short story (Chapter 3), drama (Chapter 4), and textual illustration (Chapter 2). The thesis also analyzes Decadents' use of a wholly non-realistic genre, the fairy tale (see Chapter 5), in order to delineate the consequences of their use of fantasy for the construction of character and gender within their texts.

The growing sophistication of version control systems, a class of tools employed in tracking and managing changes to documents, has had a transformative impact on the practice of programming. In recent years great strides have been made to improve these systems, but certain stubborn difficulties remain. For example, merging of concurrently introduced changes continues to be a labour-intensive and error-prone process. This thesis examines these difficulties by way of a critique of the conceptual framework underlying modern version control systems, arguing that many of their shortcomings are related to certain long-standing, open problems around identity. The research presented here casts light on how the challenges faced by users and designers of version control systems can be understood in those terms, ultimately arguing that future progress may benefit from a better understanding of the role of identity, representation, reference, and meaning in these systems and in computing in general.

My Ph.D thesis examines the development of the concept of form in the light of the Post-Impressionist aesthetics of Roger Fry and Clive Bell. While it is often assumed that Virginia Woolf works in their wake, their influence has not been examined in detail before. The dissertation draws attention to the polarity of the views on art which Roger Fry and Clive Bell as art critics pursued, and to the consequences these imply. Fry's and Bell's aesthetics are tested against Virginia Woolf's concern for art in general, and in particular against her statements on the artist in her novels and essays. After an introduction in which the general development of aesthetic criticism in the nineteenth century is traced, the critical ideas of Fry, his influence on Woolf, and the theories of Bell are explored in Chapters 2 to 4. Chapters 5 to 7 examine Woolf's use of their aesthetic ideas in the following novels: To the Lighthouse, The Waves, Between the Acts. Fryian concepts such as beauty, design, rhythm, texture, unity and vision are shown to play a crucial role in her fiction, which, if unacknowledged, limits our understanding of her artistic universe. These concepts represent the background on which all her experimental writing, her study of the re-presentation of reality through the medium of the novel, is based. Woolf's concern for form is thus shown to be a development from the rejection of the mimetic conventions towards abstraction. The extremity of this solution, however, proved its limitation. The predicament in which Bernard, the artist of The Waves, is entrapped directed Woolf away from Bell's decontextualized universe towards the equipoised vision of reality championed by Roger Fry in his work on Cézanne; this constituted the basis for her new concept of beauty, not as truth but as "pied beauty".

A defining feature of environmental psychology has been the attention to the individuals’ relationships with their environments (Swim et al., 2009). Many children feel powerless and hopeless about influencing environmental issues (Ojala, 2015), thus it is important to build their sense of self-efficacy (belief that they can make a difference) and collective efficacy. The present study aims to explore psychometric properties and construct validity of the Ecological Identity Scale (EIS) (Walton & Jones, 2017) in a Portuguese sample of 526 individuals aged between 16 and 25 years old. This instrument is a succinct assessment measure of to what extent self and group ecological identity influence the likelihood of an individual to take (or not take) efforts to minimize the impact, they and others have on the environment. The Portuguese version (EIE) showed adequate reliability and the Confirmatory Factorial Analysis suggested the removal of 4 items, resulting in a 14 items scale. The lack of evidence for full scalar invariance across gender and age groups indicates that female and males (and adolescents and young adults) are not responding similarly to the items of the scale. Suggestions are made regarding the importance of extending research and further validation of the scale to ensure its proper application and the need to correlate this construct with other variables.

The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate a scale that measures gender role construction and the various components associated with this process in men of color (i.e., African American, Latinx, and Asian American men). Existing psychological models for understanding this paradigm have primarily focused on the experiences and worldviews of White, Euro-American men without taking into consideration the various societal influences and socializing agents that uniquely impact this process in men of color. In an attempt to more accurately capture this process in people of color, through qualitative data, Miville, Bratini, Corpus, Lau, and Redway (2013) developed the Multicultural Gender Roles Model, which described eight unique components people of color may experience in their gender roles negotiation. For this study, the Multicultural Gender Roles Model (MGRM) was adapted for the development of the Multicultural Gender Roles Scale – Male Version (MGRS – Male Version). Qualitative research from the MGRM and feedback from experts in gender/gender roles research contributed to the development of 69 items that were analyzed through an exploratory factor analysis resulting in a 41-item measure. Exploratory factor analysis of data from 200 men of color resulted in 5 factors reflecting experiences men of color undergo in the gender role development process: (a) Transforming Self-Perceptions, (b) Negative Psychological Symptomatology, (c) Understanding Impact on Others in Family, Community, and Society, (d) Intersecting Identities, and (e) Navigating Emotions related to Privilege and Oppression.

Systems can become misconfigured for a variety of reasons such as operator errors or buggy patches. When a misconfiguration is discovered, usually the first order of business is to restore availability, often by undoing the misconfiguration. To simplify this task, we propose Ocasta to automatically determine which files contain configuration state. Ocasta uses a novel {\em similarity} metric to measures how similar a file's versions are to each other, and a set of filters to eliminate non-persistent files from consideration. These two mechanisms enable Ocasta to identify all 72 configuration files out of 2363 versioned files from 6 common applications in two user traces, while mistaking only 33 non-configuration files as configuration files. Ocasta allows a versioning file system to eliminate roughly 66\% of non-configuration file versions from its logs, thus reducing the number of file versions that a user must manually examine to recover from a misconfiguration.
