Reading habit is a fundamental skill that is necessary for every student's life. However, Malaysia is far from a culture of reading. Therefore, to step forward to a world that enjoys reading, everyone needs to spread good reading habits as soon as possible. Thus, this conceptual paper provides a literature review that is relevant to students' reading habits by using multimodal text. Additionally, it explores reading habits, the importance of reading, multimodal text as instructional material, and the advantages of using multimodal text to improve students' reading habits. By identifying some advantages of using multimodal text in improving students' reading habits, such as making the learning environment more interesting and productive, encouraging more on reading habits and motivate students to read texts with passion. Thus, teachers should be encouraged to develop their own multimodal text to be used in the ESL classroom.

This paper investigates habit in relation to fossil-fuel dependency. Habit names sets of actions and practices that are deeply codified into daily life, including practices connected to the use of large amounts of energy. Developing an understanding of energy habits appears to constitute a possible site of intervention into the ongoing use of fossil fuels. I argue that by tending to focus on individual energy practices, habit makes it difficult to raise larger, systemic questions related to energy use. Indeed, more critical explorations of habit, such as practice theory or via Bourdieu's notion of habitus, emphasise the need to attend to system more than specific energy habits. Investigating habit in relation to energy does, however, reveal some of the current limits and problems involved in changing fossil-fuel dependency on the part of many states. The paper turns to an investigation of the operations of governmentality in relation to energy to show the multiple ways in which the contemporary configuration of state power makes it unable to fully attend to fossil-fuel dependency. Making small changes to energy use via changes to energy habit never results in the system change required. While habit can thus be a useful analytic tool in understanding state power in relation to energy use, the paper argues that it is not a mechanism through which one might fundamentally change current configurations of energy dependency.

In this exploratory and descriptive study, data are drawn from a sample of 1,864 Bank of America retirees collected in 1987 to investigate correlations among healthy habits, age, gender, and education. Findings include: 1) Health habits are strongly and positively associated with each other and negatively associated with unhealthy habits. 2) Age is statistically significant and positively associated with fiber, fat consumption, and lack of exercise, but negative associated with cigarette use. 3) Women are more likely than men to smoke, use seat belts, and eat foods high in fiber. Men are more likely than women to exercise and drink excessively. 4) Education is statistically significant and positively associated only with fiber in the diet and no other habit. 5) Fiber consumption emerges as the healthy habit most consistently associated with all other habits.

Background: Tobacco use is the leading global cause of preventable death. There is estimation that three quarters of these deaths will be in low and middle income countries. Very few studies were available on the tobacco habit of transport staff from India. Aims and Objectives: Prevalence of habits for various tobacco products and initiating/ quitting patterns of these habits in Drivers and conductors. Material and Methods: Cross sectional survey was conducted on the staff of drivers conductors, technicians of government bus depot. Out of total 903 staff 702 could be contacted and surveyed. Results: The mean age was 36.4 ± 10.3 years. The mean age of initiation was 10-15 years. This have very high rate (77.9%) of tobacco and alcohol use. As a single habit chewing was more popular compared to smoking followed by alcohol. More than half of the chewers consume more than 4 pkts (20-25 grams in weight) of Gutka per day an even 30 to 40 pkts of Gutka consumption in a single day was reported by some staff. Addiction was a common feature for tobacco habit in this community for tobacco use (97%). Peer group pressure was the most important single cause of initiation of tobacco habits. Nearly half (44.3%) tobacco users want to quit the habit. Most common symptoms which tobacco users have were burning sensation in stomach or acidity. Conclusions: Repeated awareness programmes about the ill effect of tobacco and counselling/ de-addiction programmes are very much needed from the transport department and government are needed to improve the situation

People, especially young adults, often use their smartphones out of habit: They compulsively browse social networks, check emails, and play video-games with little or no awareness at all. While previous studies analyzed this phenomena qualitatively , e.g., by showing that users perceive it as meaningless and addictive, yet our understanding of how to discover smartphone habits and mitigate their disruptive effects is limited. Being able to automatically assess habitual smartphone use, in particular, might have different applications, e.g., to design better “digital wellbeing” solutions for mitigating meaningless habitual use. To close this gap, we first define a data analytic methodology based on clustering and association rules mining to automatically discover complex smartphone habits from mobile usage data. We assess the methodology over more than 130,000 phone usage sessions collected from users aged between 16 and 33, and we show evidence that smartphone habits of young adults can be characterized by various types of links between contextual situations and usage sessions, which are highly diversified and differently perceived across users. We then apply the proposed methodology in Socialize, a digital wellbeing app that (i) monitors habitual smartphone behaviors in real time and (ii) uses proactive notifications and just-in-time reminders to encourage users to avoid any identified smartphone habits they consider as meaningless. An in-the-wild study with 20 users (ages 19–31) demonstrates that Socialize can assist young adults in better controlling their smartphone usage with a significant reduction of their unwanted smartphone habits.

This thesis was concerned with the Reading Habits In The Digital Age: Changes Trend and Behavior in Alpha Generation. The problem of this research was how could trends and behaviors in alpha generation change reading habits. The purpose of this study is to identify whether the alpha generation has the habit of reading in the digital age. The objective of this research was generation alpha especially students of Junior High School 11 Palembang, Seventh-grade. Based on the data taken from the students choose the answer based on their honest opinion. There were (13%) Fully Agree and (50%) Agree of 30 students were agree on reading habits and the use of technology for reading habits. And (4%) Highly Disagree and (33%) Disagree about reading habits and the use of technology so here the comparison was quite comparable to the reading habits of students using technology in this digital age. It could be can be concluded that the alpha generation has a habit of reading using technology that is included in the digital age such as using a handphone or laptop and reading habits have reading behavior in students.

The present study explores the role of intentions, habits, and addictive tendencies in people’s video game use. Although both habits and addictive tendencies may determine higher amounts of video game use, the present study examines whether the impact of habits and addictive tendencies on video game use may also be lower the less users intend to play (indicating a moderating role of intention). To test these assumptions, survey data were collected in two waves (N = 351), measuring causal factors in the first wave and outcomes (subsequent video game use) in the second. Results of mediation analyses reveal a positive impact of both habits and addictive tendencies on video game use that is partly affected by users’ intentions. Furthermore, moderation analyses suggest that the impact of habits, but not of addictive tendencies, on video game use decreases, the less users intend to play. Taken together, these findings suggest that users’ video game habits, addictive tendencies, and intentions jointly determine video game use.

Introduction. The use of abbreviations in nursing practice is common and frequent. Abbreviations are considered a time saver but can lead to omissions in work due to misinterpretation.Aim. To collect data on the attitudes and habits of using abbreviations in nursing practice, and to determine whether there is a difference with regard to professional education, place of work and years of service. Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted during September 2020. A questionnaire implemented by Koh et al. in their research was used; permission was obtained to adapt the questionnaire according to our needs. The study was conducted at three Clinics at the UHC Zagreb. A total of 50 questionnaires were distributed on every clinic. The study was approved by the UHC Zagreb’s Ethics commission.Results. The use of abbreviations is common in nursing practice. Nurses most often learn abbreviations from nurses with longer work experience and regard the use of abbreviations as acceptable. Nurses with 16 or more years of service use abbreviations significantly more often in order to save time, than respondents with up to 15 years of service. Nurses with up to 15 years of service significantly more often report incorrect application of therapy as a result of misinterpretation of abbreviations compared to nurses with longer working experience.Conclusion. The study showed that abbreviations are often used in nursing practice. Standard abbreviations are most often used, although non-standard abbreviations are also increasingly present. Abbreviations are acceptable in nursing practice, although nurses must be made aware that the use of abbreviations can lead to omissions in the work. For this reason, other researchers who have studied the use of abbreviations suggest that lists of permitted abbreviations should be created at the institutional level and that they should be regularly updated.

This study aims at testing a theoretical model explaining why people follow healthy eating habits and in particular to identify how the nutritional labels use influences this behavioural pattern. The results indicate that the individuals who utilise more often the nutritional labels follow healthier eating habits, such as avoiding snacking between meals, a lower intake of salt and avoiding the fat intake. According the factors explaining the label use, the health knowledge, the bad health status and being aware of the diet-health relation are found significant. Age and household size are the socio-demographic variables which also affect the nutritional label use and eating habits. Findings provide more evidence on the consumers' underlying motivations to pay attention to nutritional labelling, which allows evaluating the impact of the implementation of the Regulation EC 1924/2006 of the European Parliament and the Council of 20 December 2006 on nutritional and health claims made on foods (Regulation EC 1924/2006). In addition, empirical results could help the local policy makers to establish appropriate market strategies to increase healthy eating habits by promoting the nutritional label use by consumers.

Intervening to change clients’ habits in the course of their everyday occupations could improve health. Habit formation interventions are an emerging area of science, however, and there is a need to better understand the current state of habit intervention research. The objective of this study is to examine the evidence related to habit formation interventions to modify health habits among adults. We performed a scoping review of peer-review articles published since January 1, 2008. The majority of the 18 studies included in the review were randomized control trials using one of two measures to assess habit change. Studies targeted a range of habits. Trial results were mixed but supportive of habit formation approaches. Through habit formation interventions, a range of everyday behaviors can become a habit. Occupational therapy professionals can use data and results generated from this review to inform the development of occupation-based habit formation treatments.

The evidence supporting effectiveness of nutrition and lifestyle change in improving diabetes-related outcomes is substantial. The process of translating that evidence into practice in ways that are tailored to each patient’s clinical profile, eating habits and lifestyle, and learning style needs team collaboration including referral to lifestyle programs or registered dietitians for medical nutrition therapy. Patients need to receive consistent messaging about nutrition and lifestyle priorities and be engaged in collaborating on doable action steps that build self-efficacy and improve outcomes.

The library uses habits of the students and their choices what to read change dramatically from student to student. Reading habits of newspapers are indicated very low in statistics, while reading habits of books were relatively much higher. In addition, the habits of library use are different, so the underlying reasons should be delved into. The aim of this study is to reveal the use of the university library and reading habits of Tishk International University Education Faculty students. 200 students who were randomly chosen from 530 students from different departments of the Faculty participated in this survey voluntarily. Descriptive and correlational research model was used in the study. In the analysis of the data, the questionnaire technique and the “chi-square test” was used. According to the results of the study; students’ use of the university library and reading habits were found to be high (strong habits). On the other hand, it was concluded that students’ newspaper reading habits were lower than those of reading books. Students who think that they have not read enough books, magazines and similar reading sources have cited the problem of not finding time as a reason and the lack of the printed media and publishing in the country. In addition, it is clear that students with a high frequency of library use have academic success and a strong reading habit. On the other hand, no significant relationship was found between the frequency of reading the books and the levels of income and the level of education of parents.

The prevalence rate of gambling and social networking in the university setting interferes with students’ study habit dimensions. Thus, this study seeks to determine the dimensions of study habits exhibited by university students in Ghana, precisely the University of Cape Coast. The study adopted the descriptive survey design with a sample size of 351. The Study Habits Inventory (SHI) was adapted to determine the dimensions of students’ study habits. The inventory recorded a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient (r) of .97. From the findings, it was evident that most students had satisfactory study habits in all five dimensions (Allotment of time, concentration, consultation, procedure in studying and reading and library use). Hence, it was inferred from the findings that the satisfactory study habits of students were because they did not have a very well-planned and organised study time. To this, it was recommended that, since one’s study habits can be interfered with by gambling and social life activities, the Study Habit Unit, in collaboration with the department academic counsellors, hall counsellors and a recommended “Gaming Research Unit” of the university should intermittently run an open forum where students can test their study habit dimensions and be acquainted so as to seek counsel or improvement where necessary

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between prospective teachers’ metacognitive reading strategies and their reading habits. The study was designed in correlation model. The sample of the study was determined by simple random sampling. The sample of the study consists of 506 prospective teachers out of which 255 are on Primary Education and 249 are on Preschool Education. In the research, Book Reading Habit Attitude Scale and Metacognitive Reading Strategies Scale were used as data collection tools. While there is no significant difference in the reading habits of the prospective teachers, there is a significant difference in the use of metacognitive strategies in favor of the female prospective teachers. The reading habits of prospective teachers and the extent to which they use metacognitive reading strategies do not differ by department and grade level. In addition, it was found that there was a moderately significant relationship between prospective teachers' use of metacognitive reading strategies and the level of reading habits.

Unnecessary and improper medication use are problems that affect public health negatively. In our country, a significant portion of health expenditures is spent on medications. This study was aimed to evaluate the rational drug use knowledge and behaviors of students at Siirt University Health School. The study was carried out face to face with the participation of 568 students. The survey was carried out with the method of application under observation. The research population in which the questionnaire could be applied consisted of 980 students. Participation in the survey required volunteering. A questionnaire form was applied to students about their rational drug use information. Data were analyzed descriptively and independent T-test using SPSS 22. 0 package program. The students stated that they kept the residual drugs after the treatment in 51.6% to use when they were needed, and they kept the cold chain drugs at 58.3% on the cover of the refrigerator. When they wanted to use the drugs again, 34.1% do not want to take medicine if they are not ill. It is recorded that the painkillers are the first medicine to be found at home when it will be needed, the second is antibiotics and the 3rd is the ointments. 73.6% of the students do not use medication prescribed by the advice of their neighbors or relatives. 71.5% of the students said no to the question of if they recommend drugs to their relatives. 62.6% of the students stated that they did not use antibiotics and vitamins by themselves. 58.5% of the students learn the knowledge of medication use from the medication prospectus. 4.8% of the students accept the equivalent medications that were recommended by the pharmacist. It has been learned that students should increase their knowledge and behavior levels related to rational drug use. Wrong and unnecessary use of drugs can be prevented by explaining the side effects, active substances in drugs, and how they affect metabolism at the molecular level.

The increasing prevalence of dual cigarette use (traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes) among higher education students in Malaysia raised concerns about potential health risks associated with this habit. This study aims to investigate the differences in nicotine dependence and smoking habits between single and dual cigarette users. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 224 students from four higher education institutions in the Klang Valley. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires, which included questions on personal information, nicotine dependency, and smoking habits. The Mann-Whitney Test was used to test the hypotheses. The findings indicated no significant difference in nicotine dependence and smoking habits between single and dual cigarette users. However, the study highlighted the potential health risks associated with dual cigarette use. The results emphasize the need for policymakers to implement stricter smoking regulations in higher education facilities and increase student awareness of the dangers of smoking. Further research should focus on understanding the reasons for dual cigarette use and developing targeted interventions to address this public health issue.

Gadgets have certainly become an integral part of our daily lives. From smartphones and tablets to laptops and smartwatches, we rely on these devices to stay connected, entertained, and productive throughout the day. Excessive usage of gadgets for a long time and unhealthy habits will lead to health problems such as myopia. Using gadgets at a close distance is one of the most common unhealthy habits among gadget users, especially children. This study, called "smart distance alert system" is developed to address the unhealthy habit of using gadgets at a close distance. The developed prototype operates by measuring the distance between the user and the gadget screen using an ultrasonic sensor. The buzzer and vibration motor work as an alert system, activating when the distance is less than 50 cm. Parents or guardians will get notifications through the Blynk application. The entire prototype is controlled by NodeMicrocontroller unit.

Abstract The human musculoskeletal system is highly complex mechanically. Its neural control must deal successfully with this complexity to perform the diverse, efficient, robust and usually graceful behaviors of which humans are capable. Most of those behaviors might be performed by many different subsets of its myriad possible states, so how does the nervous system decide which subset to use? One solution that has received much attention over the past 50 years would be for the nervous system to be fundamentally limited in the patterns of muscle activation that it can access, a concept known as muscle synergies or movement primitives. Another solution, based on engineering control methodology, is for the nervous system to compute the single optimal pattern of muscle activation for each task according to a cost function. This review points out why neither appears to be the solution used by humans. There is a third solution that is based on trial-and-error learning, recall and interpolation of sensorimotor programs that are good-enough rather than limited or optimal. The solution set acquired by an individual during the protracted development of motor skills starting in infancy forms the basis of motor habits, which are inherently low-dimensional. Such habits give rise to muscle usage patterns that are consistent with synergies but do not reflect fundamental limitations of the nervous system and can be shaped by training or disability. This habit-based strategy provides a robust substrate for the control of new musculoskeletal structures during evolution as well as for efficient learning, athletic training and rehabilitation therapy.

A striking increase in the use of new information and communication technology has come about in recent years. This study analysed the characteristics and habits of Internet use in a sample of pre-adolescents between 10 and 13 years of age, enrolled in the 6th grade of primary school in Navarra (Spain). Likewise, the existence of differential patterns in Internet use by sex was analysed, and risk behaviours were detected. The sample was composed of 364 students (206 boys and 158 girls) who were evaluated at their schools. Information about socio-demographic characteristics, Internet use habits, and online behaviours was collected using a data-gathering tool specifically designed for the study. The results demonstrated high Internet use by the adolescents studied. Girls used the Internet more for social relationships, whereas boys tended to use it differently, including accessing online games. Moreover, some risky behaviours were found, including interactions with strangers, giving out personal information, and sending photos and videos. Likewise, behaviours associated with «cyber-bullying» were detected. These results indicate the necessity of establishing prevention programs for safe and responsible Internet use.

Many car drivers in Malaysia, especially young drivers, ignore the importance of wearing seat belts. This questionnaire study employed an extended version of the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) by including habit as a new construct to explain the factors influencing the behavioural intention and expectation of young Malaysian drivers to use seat belts. A total of 398 young drivers from the state of Selangor in Malaysia participated in this study. Analyses used a covariance-based structural equation modelling (CB-SEM) approach. The results showed that the variance, which indicates the intention of young Malaysian drivers to use seat belts (R2 = 0.76), is influenced by drivers’ habits and three basic constructs of the TPB (attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control). The basic TPB constructs have a direct and positive impact on the intention of young Malaysian drivers to use seat belts. Drivers’ habits have a positive and direct influence on their intention to use seat belts, and an indirect influence via the attitude and perceived behaviour control constructs. Drivers’ habits do not influence subjective norms. The authors recommend implementing effective measures to encourage Malaysian drivers to use seat belts and ensure sustainable traffic safety.

Media habits attract growing attention in communication research. Therefore, valid measures of habit strength are needed. The response-frequency measure of media habit (RFMMH) provides an implicit approach. It does not rely on retrospective self-reports of the habitual character of a behavior. Participants are presented with vignettes referring to various goal situations and choose under time pressure script-based which media device they would use in the respective situation. Choosing the same device across the different goal situations indicates strong general habits. The present paper refines the RFMMH by testing different time pressure levels in a heterogeneous sample to identify the ideal amount of time pressure.
