Rationalization of modern tourist scenic spot planning is very important to the development of the whole scenic area, and the rational planning of tourism resources of scenic area is based on the full development of resources, then making the systems be optimized in the scenic area. When applying GIS technology to urban tourism scenic spot, the distribution of tourism resources will be more reasonable. The application of GIS network analysis function on traffic planning and underground pipeline planning, which achieve programming optimization, and then doing three-dimensional visualization for network planning, clearly analysis the planning rationality. The superiority of GIS spatial analysis functions makes the tourist scenic spot planning optimization in low-cost, and also provides a good platform for the operation and management of scenic area.

For centuries, philosophers, policy-makers and urban planners have debated whether aesthetically pleasing surroundings can improve our wellbeing. To date, quantifying how scenic an area is has proved challenging, due to the difficulty of gathering large-scale measurements of scenicness. In this study we ask whether images uploaded to the website Flickr, combined with crowdsourced geographic data from OpenStreetMap, can help us estimate how scenic people consider an area to be. We validate our findings using crowdsourced data from Scenic-Or-Not, a website where users rate the scenicness of photos from all around Great Britain. We find that models including crowdsourced data from Flickr and OpenStreetMap can generate more accurate estimates of scenicness than models that consider only basic census measurements such as population density or whether an area is urban or rural. Our results provide evidence that by exploiting the vast quantity of data generated on the Internet, scientists and policy-makers may be able to develop a better understanding of people's subjective experience of the environment in which they live.

The protection of urban lakes is important for the construction and development of the city and the eco-environment. Affected by urban expansion, most urban lake scenic areas have suffered from a reduction in area and ecological degradation. Protecting and restoring urban lake scenic areas has been a hot topic among the public. Given this background information, we analyzed the ecological problems and contradictions from the perspective of landscape ecology. This study evaluated the landscape pattern and ecological sensitivity in the Chaohu Lake Basin, China. The proposed method was based on the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and geographical information system (GIS). The results showed that the ecological sensitivity map was divided into four sensitivity levels consisting of level 1, level 3, level 5, and level 7, which represent 65%, 27%, 5%, and 2% of the study area. It was found that highly sensitive areas existed primarily in the highlands, where the natural conditions were poorer than in other areas and human activities have been developing rapidly. Additionally, the medium sensitive levels occurred in the low lands, probably in response to agricultural practices. Based on our results, three ecological zones were proposed, which require different protection and utilization solutions in order to restore the local ecological environment in terms of sustainable development.

With the continuous development of the social economy, the urban residential structure is also changing, and people have higher and higher requirements for the living environment. Moreover, the landscape construction of public spaces in cities is an important part of the city. It is easy to neglect the comprehensive consideration of historical development and regional culture in architectural projects. The overall lack of individuality in urban design, the lack of characteristics of adapting measures to local conditions, and the blind emphasis on architectural landscaping have led to a serious lack of regional cultural characteristics and spiritual culture in public places. Therefore, in terms of the problems of insufficient landscape construction quality and green concepts being insufficient in the construction environment of cities, an evaluation method system is established in the paper to further study the shortcomings of the scenic area architecture. What is more, relying on the personal experience of the users in the scenic spot and understanding the real needs of the public space landscape environment around the scenic spot, scientific methods and a complete system are applied to make an overall assessment of the public space in the built residential area. Besides, according to the data analysis of the simulation experiment, the advantages and disadvantages of the public space in the residential area are extracted. Combined with the current research status, the green concept design strategy of the public space landscape environment in the scenic spot is summarized. Lastly, according to the data analysis of the simulation experiment, the evaluation satisfaction of the activity atmosphere, plant configuration, and overall layout is improved by 4.2%, 3.7%, and 3.1% compared with other methods, which proves that this study has a more reasonable planning program to meet the various needs of public open space. The development of urban landscape design provides a valuable reference.

Yuelu mountain national park (5A scenic area) is a rare urban mountain scenic area. The major impacts from human activity are growing, such as largely unplanned tourist activity, urbanization, and accelerated the others responsible for environmental changes. It is unavoidable to have great pressure and influence on the diversity of fauna on the scenic area. In order to better understand the diversity of the decapod fauna in the Yuelu mountain national park, an intensive field survey has been carried out. A total of five species was collected, three species of atyid shrimps, Neocaridina palmata (Shen, 1948), N. yueluensis, new species, and Paracaridina longispina (Guo & He, 1992), one species of palaemonid prawn, Macrobrachium nipponense (De Haan,1849), and an invasive crayfish, Procambarus clarkii (Girard, 1852). N. yueluensis is distiguished from congeners by the shorter rostrum, the stout carpus of first pereiopod and the stout chela of second pereiopod, not sexual dimorphism of the third and fourth pereiopods, the long appendix interna and arising from the inner border of appendix masculina, and the narrower scaphocerite.

Abstract. In many famous tourist cities, there is a lack of big data analysis and perception of tourist behavior, which reflected in the existence of a large number of basic data in the scenic area. Through the traditional and/or non-special sensors of the Internet of Things, a large amount of special -temporal change data is collected, including video monitors data, RFID, WIFI, temperature and humidity, water depth sensors and other big data of the Internet of Things(IoT)that can perceive the location and environmental resource information of tourists. In addition, the thermodynamic data of the distribution location of tourists' mobile phones, although these data include the behavior data of tourist groups and individuals in the scenic spot, which can be most shown by supplying, lack of in-depth analysis and intelligent service application.As we all know, Guilin, Guangxi is a famous tourist attraction in the word. In this tourism city, the big data processing methods of location service include establishing a data processing framework, information extraction, fusion and batch processing technology. As a result of the location data of tourists in the scenic spot are constantly created over time, the location service data will be processed by stream mode. At the same time, dimension reduction analysis of big data is an important link in processing as it has a large volume but a low-value density. The analysis methods of location service include kernel density analysis, GIS spatial and temporal analysis, artificial intelligence deep learning, two-dimensional mapping, visualization processing results, and extraction of hot spots or scenic spots, etc. Spatial and temporal index technology is used to manage the big data of scenic spot location service and to improve the efficiency of data query and access. At the same time, a reasonable predictive analysis of data processing results is an important research method.The main system structure of an intelligent service platform includes platform, data processing sing, and analysis end, mobile management end. The platform includes a general user service module, location service module, a communication module, etc, which is responsible for providing reasonable service to customers. The data processing and analysis end include a data receiving module and a data processing and analysis module. Responsible for receiving and processing the location service data returned by the client. The mobile management end includes the scenic spot management module. Responsible for providing the manager with the distribution of tourists in the scenic area, the location information of the staff, the location of the emergency situation and other contents, and providing great help for the manager to maintain the order of the scenic area, reasonably dispatch personnel, and launch rescue in time. Development and design to show users good models and development concepts and typical artificial intelligence products, to improve the scenic spot tourist's playing efficiency and humanized experience and reduce the management cost.

Since the founding of the country, China’s urban–rural relations have experienced four stages: differentiation, opposition, coordination, and equivalence. The scope of rural research has expanded from individual villages to group relations, and the research content also tends to the urban–rural integration trend of factor flow. In the context of New Urbanization and the Rural Revitalization Strategies, urban–rural integration is an important starting point to solve urban–rural contradictions, and the metropolitan area is an important spatial carrier to achieving urban–rural integration. Based on investigating the key issues of urban–rural integration and metropolitan governance, this paper constructs a “place function” cognitive framework of urban–rural space in the metropolitan area, and takes Wuhan metropolitan area with its dense rural distribution as an example to recognize the urban–rural spatial characteristics of the metropolitan area scale from six dimensions: spatial structure, land use, settlement distribution, scenic spots, agricultural enterprises, and service facilities. Then, it proposes a spatial development model of the Wuhan metropolitan area of the “point axis structure-, functional area-, resilient network”, and further explores the urban–rural integration path of “planning guidance, policy promotion, and spatial support”.

Urban lakes are important natural, scenic and pattern attractions of the city, and they are potential development resources as well. However, lots of urban lakes in China have been shrunk significantly or disappeared due to rapid urbanization. In this study, four Landsat images were used to perform a case study for lake change detection in downtown Wuhan, China, which were acquired on 1991, 2002, 2011 and 2017, respectively. Modified NDWI (MNDWI) was adopted to extract water bodies of urban areas from all these images, and OTSU was used to optimize the threshold selection. Furthermore, the variation of lake shrinkage was analysed in detail according to SVM classification and post-classification comparison, and the coverage of urban lakes in central area of Wuhan has decreased by 47.37&amp;thinsp;km<sup>2</sup> between 1991 and 2017. The experimental results revealed that there were significant changes in the surface area of urban lakes over the 27 years, and it also indicated that rapid urbanization has a strong impact on the losses of urban water resources.

In order to improve the intelligence level of urban agglomeration landscape, this paper conducts dynamic observation and simulation prediction of urban agglomeration landscape based on geographic information system. There are many characteristics of GIS technology itself that can be well matched with urban landscape research, so in the process of actually studying the green space landscape pattern, GIS technology has a very large space to play. The first is to use GIS technology to collect basic data of different types of scenic spots. Raster data and vector data are two important data in GIS technology. Among them, vector data with point, line, and surface morphology can relatively express the landscape ecology. Raster data is to determine the specific position of each pixel through the vertical and horizontal row and column relationship of the pixel, which is relatively simple in structure and easy to topology. According to the characteristics of the urban agglomeration landscape, the urban agglomeration landscape is reconstructed on the virtual simulation platform using GIS technology. It can meet the long-term sustainable development of the ecological environment of the scenic area. The research of this paper mainly belongs to the scope of practical research. Taking the existing research results as the first point of experimental research, combined with the relevant research results of design, the dynamic observation and simulation prediction algorithm of urban agglomeration landscape are constructed.

In order to produce a more current inventory of forest estimates along with change estimates, the Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) program has moved to an annual system in which 20% of the permanent plots in a state are surveyed. The previous system sampled permanent plots in 10-year intervals by sampling states sequentially in a cycle (Wayman 2001, USDA FIA). The move to an annual assessment has introduced the use satellite technology to produce forest estimates. Wayman et al (2001) researched the effectiveness of satellite technology in relation to aerial photo-interpretation, finding the satellite method to do an adequate job, but reporting over-estimations of forest area. This research extends the satellite method a step further, introducing the use of ancillary data in post-classification. The US Forest Service has well-defined definitions of forest and nonforest land-use in its (FIA) program. Using these definitions as parameters, post-classification techniques were developed to improve forest area estimates from the initial spectral classification. A goal of the study was to determine the accuracy of using readily available ancillary data. US Census data, TIGER street files, and local tax parcel data were used. An Urban Mask was created based on population density to mask out Forested pixels in a classified image. Logistic Regression was used to see if population density, street density, and land value were good predictors of forest/nonforest pixels. Research was also conducted on accuracy when using contiguity filters. The current filter used by the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDoF) was compared to functions available in ERDAS Imagine. These filters were applied as part of the post-classification techniques. Results show there was no significant difference in map accuracies at the 95% confidence interval using the ancillary data with filters in a post-classification sort. However, the use of ancillary data had liabilities depending on the resolution of the data and its application in overlay.

Slovene national theatre in the centre of Ljubljana as a part of existing city block. The composition of buildings creates new urban areas as a continuation of the urban axis of Josip Plečnik. The basic principle was to resolve the issues of entry into building, the definition and organization of space inner block, the creation and cultivation of new and existing urban areas. Unifying element of the whole composition is solution to the facade, which paraphrases the high order, typical for the surrounding buildings and significant not only for cultural buildings. As a contrast to massive and heavy mass of facade stand glass facade which makes lighter impression. White facade adds significance to the composition.

After the industrial revolution civilization took a great step forward, where human beings have taken in the impact of the environment. From the late 20th century till present with a stable environment, human population flourished which lead to urbanization globally. As population increased, CBD condition declining, the development of road networks and private trades, spark the expansion of urban have risen. The original natural environment was replaced by high-rise building and artificial pavement, which triggered landscape to be affected by man. Inside Tai Hang Scenic Area has the title of " Back garden of Taichung City." which in 2014 it passed the Dakeng Scenic area project, from the early days, the development of sightseeing and recreation to the current urban planning. For the past decades there are continuous development due to political reason, and with recent years the establishment of the scenic area, Dakeng is facing further development. Therefore, Tai Hang area faces what kind of changes is the purpose of this study Through reclassifying the maps of land use survey in 2008 and 2014, this study calculates the change of landscape in the Dakeng Scenic Area over a six-year period using the Markov chain model. Among the finding is the impact of human disturbance that altered the landscape is obvious. In the study the finding there is a decrease use of forest land, rather is replaced by agricultural land, road land and bare land, although there is no significant increase of construction land, but after the field survey of this study, it is found that most bare land are under development use along the new road. t also shows that the current status of the development of the Tai Hang due to the plan of the scenic area is still under development. In the next few years, the landscape of the Dakeng area will gradually show the situation of residential communities.

Improving and governance for urban waterfront is the regenerated primary task of the advanced country when city and globalization link at the same time. Recreational facilities offer the sufficient recreation activities and drive the economic development of neighboring area, therefore, it is a key factor of success of urban waterfront planning and development. Bi-Tan as the real example of water-accessible space planning of this research, the main reason is the people polarized that the Great Bi-Tan reform plan have make a self-criticism to improve space after Taipei county government had finished planning and improving scenic spot of Bi-Tan scenic area in May of 2008. The Proposes of this study are providing present situation subjects and improving strategies for recreational facilities of Bi-Tan scenic area, to draft planning principles which accord with user''s water-accessibility recreational, as a planning reference for related departments in the future. To gather together classifications and planning principles for water-accessible facilities of this study, through literature review, to investigate the planning principles of urban waterfront, recreational facilities and satisfied theory, and development context and reform plan of Bi-Tan scenic area. Then through observed, questionnaire investigation method to analyze and measure for satisfied factors of environmental facilities. According to the experiment research, this study generalize contents as following: First, research shows that projects are not satisfied with: barrier-free facilities, service of shopping street, facilities of shelter, facilities of security, parking space. The above facilities can be used as a priority improving items for planning projects of Bi-Tan, increasing the user’s overall satisfaction. Second, consider the differences of difference users on the water-accessible facilities, increasing the willingness make tourists visit again. The final recommendations: Bi-Tan should be plan the variety of water- accessible facilities, the cultural waterfront space, ecological corridor, ecological activities of education, combining local and historical characters with store and promote the overall connotation of water-accessible space of Bi-Tan.

Urban planning is about allocating or re-allocating space resources. Conflicts are unavoidable while discovering the limited space resources in urban cities. Urban planning itself is already the cause of conflicts but it is also a medium to finding solutions to these conflicts. The trend of democracy and the awareness of human rights have resulted in the complexity and the growth of conflicts in urban planning. Since it is impossible to dismiss conflicts completely, conflict management should be adapted in order to achieve a fair and more neutral plan which can be implemented smoothly. This research uses the “Tai-An Specific Scenic Area Plan” as a study module and via analysis of conflict management to achieve the following goals: 1. Investigating the conflict causes, progress and characteristics of “Plan of particular district of Tai-un scenic spot”. 2. Understanding the opinions and attitudes of local residents and plan contributors toward “Plan of particular district of Tai-un scenic spot” based on the actual interviews. 3. Raising constructive suggestions for minimizing conflicts. A practical approach was adapted in the research of this particular case such as thorough interviews; participation in observation and collection of information and evidence. This information and evidence were then processed for conflict and issues analysis. This research discovers: 1. Insufficiency of participation from the local residents, information and despite the value of aboriginal culture which were the reasons for communication breakdown, disbelieve and constant discrepancies. 2. The real cause of conflicts was not clarified and disrespect of the aboriginal cultural differences were responsible for aboriginal discontent. Although lots of effort were made into negotiation, conflicts could not be resolved. 3. Mountainous region is the main terrain in Taiwan, besides the sensitivity of natural environment; it also has the uniqueness of aboriginal culture. “Aboriginal reservation” was planned for the purposes of maintaining the characteristics of aboriginal culture and securing their ways of surviving. Unfortunately there were conflicts between environment protection and selecting of location for aboriginal reservation. Sensitive matters such as the balance between development and environmental protection, preservation of aboriginal culture, how to overcome the historical conflict issues between Han tribe and aboriginal are significant issues the government should pay great attention and provide constructive strategies. Based on the research of the concept of conflict matters and management and the outcome analysis from the interviews, the following conclusions regarding conflict issues in urban planning were drawn. 1. From the conflict point of view, sufficient communication and public opinions are highly valued. Open and transparent information are available during the urban planning stage and are the elements to avoiding conflicts. Furthermore, the trend of democracy should be followed, and negotiation systems should be set as a communicating or participating channel among the local residents, the planners and decision makers. 2. Envisaging the conflicts is the precondition of solving the conflicts. Also the actual cause of conflicts should be clarified and well prepared for the negotiation. For those areas with special culture backgrounds, the difference in its concept of value and culture relation should be well understood and respected. 3. In conflict management, participation in planning is the optimum approach to resolve conflicts. 4. For those districts that have special cultural backgrounds should be separated from the normal urban planned districts. They require the level of national territory planning and political assistant in order to resolve the issues. Therefore, each urban plan has its unique qualities. Understanding and analyzing the causes and characteristics of conflicting events can definitely be beneficial to the solution of conflicts. 5. Seeking for the adequate opportunity for negotiation, communicating based on the characteristic of conflicts.

This study evaluated the relative efficiency of 47 international tourist hotels (ITHs) in scenic and urban areas in 2012 by Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). It is important to keep competitive nowadays, especially when the cost of labor, land, buildings and salaries have been rising. Hotels must run more efficiently to maintain their competences. The results showed that there are six ITHs reached both technology and scale efficiency. Five ITHs of the efficient ones are sited in Taipei area, and one ITH located in scenic area. For all ITHs, hotels in Taipei are relatively more efficient than ITHs in other areas. It is found that the major part of revenues comes from the restaurant department in the most efficient ITHs. The other inefficient ITHs could improve their efficiency either by reducing amount of rooms or employees or increasing the revenues of the restaurant department.

In the landscape planning method draft, the standing view landscape quality of a building in the metropolitan area is controlled, which shows the emphasis of domestic residents on the environmental quality. Furthermore, the connectivity of the road landscape quality of urban and rural area and the road security should be more emphasized in response to the enhancement of leisure industry in this country. Therefore, in this study, the route of the road is taken as the observation direction and is used to investigate what is landscape evaluation method with local characteristic. In the study, the typical urban and rural area where the road passes is selected as the location of empirical study, then the same evaluation method is put individually into it for empirical study. The objectives investigated in the study are: (1) To compare and analyze the landscape evaluation methods and to select appropriate landscape evaluation method to be applied in the base scope of the research; to compare and explain which evaluation method will suit which objective, situation and area. (2) To use questionnaire survey and analysis result to investigate the correlation between the road landscape in urban and rural area and individual’s background factor. (3) To use a cross comparison between questionnaire survey and analysis result and base observation record to investigate the correlation between the road landscape of urban and rural area and the landscape evaluation method used in this research. This research is based on landscape evaluation and view field as the view point and based on the questionnaire survey of landscape evaluation as the method. Because in one hand the landscape of the Hsinpu township of Hsinchu county is very complicated, in another hand because of the obvious difference in the landscape in the peripherals of downtown, rural and suburban area, this scope is thus selected as the empirical base; moreover, the angle of vehicle running is mainly used as the scope for photographing the base landscape, and internal town, external town and out-connected road of Hsinpu township of Hsinchu county are used as the roads for empirical research. In order to enhance the urban landscape environment, the landscape quality of entire environment in the urban planning is used as the starting point; moreover, the questionnaire survey statistical result of the expert model, spiritual and physical model and recognition model in landscape evaluation are used as the discussion bases, and the result shows that a correlation exists between the road landscape of urban and rural area and individual’s background factor, that is, the data show that female has stronger feeling on details of the observation space than that of male; in addition, a correlation exists between the road landscape of urban and rural area and the research model and method. The data show that expert model method is more suitable to be applied to the area level of downtown, rural and suburban area, and spiritual and physical model is just on the opposite; moreover, for the recognition model, it is more suitable to be applied to downtown and rural area but is not suitable to be applied to the suburban area. The result can be used as reference for the road landscape evaluation in other urban and rural areas.

The monograph is devoted to evolution, but in the form that man gave it. It is assumed that unnatural conditions of its flow were created in cities and near them, which changed the logic of its functioning, but this has become especially noticeable over the past hundred years, during which the entire planet was included in the orbit of our influence. This made it possible to unite the Earth into one whole, but at the same time it transformed the work of natural selection, turning it into an artificial one that concerns everyone and everything, without any exceptions. Accordingly, three planes of its unfolding are considered, namely: geography, the biosphere and our species, in each of which the same dynamics of its implementation can be traced. From all this, it is concluded that today there is no wild and inherent in the whole history of his version, but the one that prevails is that we, consciously and not, planted on this space object with all its inhabitants. This new version of it is proposed to be called urban revolution - by the name of the site of its unfolding and everything that is associated with it, but it is repeatedly emphasized that the essence of the process has remained the same, the scene where it is carried out has simply been transformed. It is intended for both specialists and the general public.

Many combine these topics or add still more topics beyond this list. Some projects cross the boundaries of research and practice and engage in action research, while others pursue knowledge for the sake of curiosity. This volume embraces this variety of perspectives and provides an essential collection of methodologies for studying the city from multiple, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary perspectives. We start by recognizing that the complexity of the urban environment cannot be understood from a single vantage point. We therefore offer multiple methodologies in order to gather and analyse data about the city, and provide ways to connect and integrate these approaches. The contributors form a talented network of urban scholars and practitioners at the forefront of their fields. Chapter 5 discusses nostalgia and avant-garde art in Bratislava with a case study of the musical group Požoň sentimentál. This chapter argues that although nostalgia is a feature of the postcommunist urban scene, Bratislava residents and many other Central Europeans are not nostalgic. Drawing on the ideas of Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, the chapter proposes that Bratislava avant-gardists make postmodern reparative readings. The chapter details how during the 1990s and early 2000s, Požoň sentimentál dramatized the city as it had existed a century earlier; alongside older writers and performers such as Egon Bondy, Požoň sentimentál explored forgotten motifs of the city’s history. The chapter describes how the group’s humorous enactments provoked controversy around the artistic canon, played with the city’s sonic environment, and prompted discussion over representations of the city’s former ethnic and confessional groups, especially the Jewish population decimated by the Holocaust.

Animals formed an essential part of urban life in England from Medieval times onwards, economically, socially, and ecologically. As livestock, they provided meat and other carcass resources, traction power, wool, and dairy produce. The close integration of livestock with everyday urban life is reflected in the ubiquity of butchered cattle, and sheep and pig bones, and the sight, sound, and smell of livestock would have been everyday experiences. Horses are probably under-represented in the animal bone record, given their likely importance as pack and riding animals. Poultry and, later, rabbits were important as livestock that poorer households could raise and trade. Other animals provided companionship, although the differentiation of companion animals is not unproblematic. The commensal scavengers such as crows and rodents were a central element of the urban scene, becoming stigmatized as ‘vermin’ at least by the sixteenth century.

This book is written in support of those who believe that neighborhoods should be genuinely relevant in our lives, not as casual descriptors of geographic location but as places that provide an essential context for daily life. “Neighborhood” in its traditional sense—as a localized, place-based, delimited urban area that has some level of personal influence—seems a vanished part of the urban experience. This book explores whether 21st-century neighborhoods can once again provide a sense of caring and local participation and not devolve into enclaves seeking social insularity and separation. That the localized, diverse neighborhood has often failed to materialize requires thorough exploration. While many factors leading to the decline of the traditional neighborhood—e-commerce, suburban exclusivity, internet-based social contact—seem to be beyond anyone’s control, other factors seem more a product of neglect and confusion about neighborhood definition and its place in American society. Debates about the neighborhood have involved questions about social mix, serviceability, self-containment, centeredness, and connectivity within and without. This book works through these debates and proposes their resolution. The historical and global record shows that there are durable, time-tested regularities about neighborhoods. Many places outside of the West were built with neighborhood structure in evidence—long before professionalized, Western urban planning came on the scene. This book explores the compelling case that the American neighborhood can be connected to these traditions, anchored in human nature and regularities of form, and reinstated as something relevant and empowering in 21st-century urban experience.

Who makes decisions that shape the housing, policies, and social programs in urban neighborhoods? Who, in other words, governs? This book offers a rich ethnographic portrait of the individuals who implement community development projects in the Fairmount Corridor, one of Boston's poorest areas. The book uncovers a network of nonprofits and philanthropic foundations making governance decisions alongside public officials—a public–private structure that has implications for democratic representation and neighborhood inequality. The book's author spent four years following key players in Boston's community development field. While state senators and city councilors are often the public face of new projects, and residents seem empowered through opportunities to participate in public meetings, the author found a shadow government of nonprofit leaders and philanthropic funders, nonelected neighborhood representatives with their own particular objectives, working behind the scenes. Tying this system together were political performances of “community”—government and nonprofit leaders, all claiming to value the community. The author argues that there is no such thing as a singular community voice, meaning any claim of community representation is, by definition, illusory. The author shows how community development is as much about constructing the idea of community as it is about the construction of physical buildings in poor neighborhoods. The book demonstrates how the nonprofit sector has become integral to urban policymaking, and the tensions and trade-offs that emerge when private nonprofits take on the work of public service provision.

There are references to poxes and bloodletting elsewhere in The Alchemist, but Jonson uses the ordinary experience of barbering, and the familiar relationship between barber and patient, to ponder the dangers of the razor. By way of that razor, the scene highlights the problem of trust between these tricksters. Note that Face needs a shave but that he acknowledges the potential dangers of his cohort’s touch. Can he trust Subtle? Specifically, can he trust Subtle’s touch and his use of the blade? Or, in Face’s words, ‘And not cut my throat, but trim me?’ Although the play conducts us through urban marketplaces, alchemical fantasies, the laboratory and vice, Jonson evokes a medical setting and the familiar encounter between barber and patient (client) to present a highly charged moment of estrangement and negotiation. Barbering was ordinary, a part of hygiene and a means for securing health.2 But in this newly competitive environment of the marketplace, both the relation between barber and patient and the activities of the barber are potentially transformed.

Taking the opportunity of the national implementation of the river head system, Rural Revitalization and rural complex construction, taking the Xinpanjiang River, the Laopanjiang River and Yanfang River as the framework and aiming at “smooth river, clear water, green bank and beautiful scenery”, the project fully excavates and makes use of Luliang’s historical and cultural connotation and resources through flood control and drainage, sewage collection and treatment along the river, ecological green corridor, the waterfront landscape improvement and other measures shall be taken to comprehensively manage the three rivers, so as to create the waterfront landscape pattern of one heart and three belts of the wetland ecological tourism service core of the Xinpanjiang River and the Laopanjiang River Basin, the fast green tourism channel of the Xinpanjiang River, the ecological and cultural landscape belt of the Laopanjiang River and the ecological pastoral landscape belt of the Yanfang River, so as to improve the urban taste and the people’s sense of obtaining a beautiful ecological environment. AbstractPoor physical and land use planning underpin the chaotic evolution and expansion in cities and towns in sub-Saharan Africa. This situation amplifies urban vulnerability to climate change. Worse, urban landscapes are rarely considered part of the discourse on urban development in sub-Saharan Africa, let alone in climate change adaptation. Yet, landscapes are known to play crucial roles in social, economic, and cultural resilience in cities and towns. Hence, designing basic forms of appealing and functional urban landscapes that support multiple ecosystem services is essential to the drive towards resilience, which relates to the ability to maintain or improve the supply of life support services and products (such as food and water) in the face of disturbance. In this chapter, the idea of transforming idle urban spaces into multifunctional edible urban landscapes is introduced and explored as instrumental for cost-effective adaptation and resilience to climate change in cities and towns in sub-Saharan Africa. Multifunctional edible urban landscape is defined here as a managed landscape that integrates food production and ornamental design, in harmonious coexistence with other urban structures to promote or provide targeted, multiple services. These services include food security, scenic beauty, green spaces for active living and learning, jobs and livelihoods support, environmental protection, climate adaptation, and overall urban resilience. This approach constitutes a triple-win multifunctional land use system that is beneficial to landowners, city managers, and the general community. This chapter explores the benefits, challenges, and prospects for practically transforming urban idle spaces into multifunctional edible urban landscapes using an example project from Ghana. The chapter shows that multifunctional edible urban landscape transformation for resilience is practically feasible, and sheds light on the possibility of the food production component paying for landscaping and landscape management. It concludes with thoughts on actions required across sectors and multiple scales, including mobilizing stakeholders, laws, policies, and incentives, to actualize multifunctional edible urban landscapes as key transformational components of resilience in sub-Saharan Africa.

AbstractDrawing on 20 years of anthropological research in Dakar, this study aims at bringing to light some ways of being-in-town that organize towards desires for being-in-the-world. It relies on a simple and yet substantial premise: a very large number of urban Senegalese youths express a strong willingness to move North, or West, while only a small minority is able to achieve such an expectation. The questioning focuses on those who actually stay, but whose modes of sticking here are deeply influenced by their longings for a larger world. Such configurations can be understood through the concrete urban cosmopolitan experiences they convey, which rely on inherently relational terms, that is: being cosmopolitan ‘rather than…’, citizen of the world ‘rather than…’, and so on. This relative, relational and contrastive cosmopolitanism emerges in the wake of constant non-travelers’ paths into the city, as compared to “frequent travelers” moving around the world. Empirically, these issues are addressed from the standpoint of the contrasted uses of urban temporalities, the nocturnal one in particular. The Dakar-by-night is thus engaged as a scene revealing the cosmopolitical dynamics that inhabit, cross or impregnate the metropolis.

La città globale ha generato una forte ipermobilità delle merci e degli uomini. Cambiano cioè gli attori e i gruppi sociali della scena urbana. Rilevante è la presenza degli immigrati che forniscono manodopera in numerosi ambiti. Le società ospitanti riconoscono, infatti, il ruolo determinante degli stranieri in quanto lavoratori, ma pongono forti resistenze nel riconoscerli in quanto cittadini. In altre parole, restano cittadini sospesi tra il paese d’origine e quello d’arrivo, perché godono di una cittadinanza con revoca. Gli immigrati possono al massimo godere di una cittadinanza sostanziale, nel senso che esiste un insieme di pratiche di cittadinanza, che fanno percepire lo straniero come se fosse a casa propria pur non essendolo. Si tratta delle c.d. pratiche di home making, cioè di addomesticamento dello spazio circostante. Tale riappropriazione del contesto urbano, esprime in realtà la rivendicazione dello straniero al diritto alla centralità e il desiderio di non essere periferizzati. Si tratta del diritto alla città elaborato da Henri Lefebvre nel 1978, inteso come diritto alla vita urbana. Non tutti però godono allo stesso modo di tale diritto: i soggetti più deboli e vulnerabili non hanno voce nei processi decisionali. Ma la vera essenza della cittadinanza contemporanea consiste nel prender parte ad una vita pienamente urbana, per tale motivo i migranti, in quanto attori urbani e portatori di una particolare domanda di città, dovrebbero essere ascoltati dagli amministratori locali. The central topic of this paper is the complex relationship between migrants and the global city, which has created a strong hypermobility of goods and people. There are new actors in the urbane scene: immigrants provide labor in many areas, but they are particularly invisible at the main decision-making levels, especially in those concerning the city design. They are subjected to discrimination: first of all as city users and also as proponents of urban and architectural projects. Our cities are not able to answer the "supply of city" of those who live in, that means they do not fully answer to the people needs and desires. Consequently, the weakest and most vulnerable citizens don’t fully enjoy their right to the city. This right has been presented by Henri Lefebvre around the 70s. According to the French sociologist everyone should enjoy the "right to urban life", that is the possibility to satisfy their aspirations in terms of political, social and environmental impacts in the city.

Em Florianópolis, as galerias passaram a ser construídas a partir dos anos 1940 à reboque do Estado com intervenções urbanas e modernizantes, meio encontrado para refletir uma imagem inovadora para uma cidade com desenvolvimento lento. Apresentam-se sete edifícios como estudo de caso, formando um itinerário livre com galerias que se mesclam à malha urbana tradicional, oferecendo renovação à dinâmica da cidade, criando locais de interface entre público e privado, produzindo novas relações entre a arquitetura e o urbano pelo uso do cidadão. Enfatiza-se o caráter documental desses edifícios, que integram o itinerário histórico e paisagístico da cidade, com relações com o urbano que prevalecem pertinentes. Presents the morphological type of the urban gallery inserted in the context of Florianópolis, capital of the state of Santa Catarina, in it’s modernist period. Analyzes the impact of internal and external galleries set on the ground floor of buildings, as well as the relationship between the buildings in the pedestrian scale. In Florianópolis, the galleries began to be built from the 1940s powered by urban and modernizing state interventions, a way to reflect an innovative image for a city with slow development. We present seven buildings as a case study, forming an itinerary with galleries that merge the traditional urban fabric, offering renovation to the dynamics of the city, creating interface between the public and the private and producing new relationships between architecture and urban by the use of citizens. It emphasizes the documental aspect of these buildings, which are a part of the historic and scenic route of the city, with urban relations that prevail relevant.

Smell is an sensation underrated in our life.In the culture dominated by vision, it is common to try to hide and deny the true smell of things.But smell may be the strongest and most interesting sensations humans possess: it is primitive, instinctive, sensual, and uncontrollable. We are surrounded by smells, they process through the air, and we cannot avoid perceiving them.We perceive the quality of things through smell, and we get thousands of messages from a large number of small particles that reach our nostrils . It communicates with people directly and exchanges information.Smell can reach the marginal regions of the brain before we feel any other sensory stimuli, because this is the most primitive part of human experience related to the strongest emotions.In order to explore digital smell,I designed a “scentgraphy” in my previous work, and establishing the relationship between color and smell is my main job.In this paper,I'll started to establish the relationship between the smell and scene to make the digital smell more accurate.and it is expected in the next research that the relationship between smell and scene will be applied the scentgraphy4.0 based on computer vision recognition .Therefore, my research aim in this article is to use common scene in our everyday life or the nature to map with their corresponding smell. However, due to the different geographical and cultural gap, the smell of the same scene may appear different, because this study will be studied that be selected in different scene of a city.In this paper, my research aims to use the common scene in our everyday life or the nature to map with their corresponding smell in order to establish the relationship between scene and smell. In the research process, take Beijing as an example, and record the smell of 6 kinds of outdoor scenes through on-site perception and photography. The research result will be applied in digital olfactory project related with computer vision recognition.In order to explore the digitization of smell, this paper will explore representative smell from the same kind of scene.By drawing on DrKate McLean's Smell Map method, which was used to study and design urban smell scenes, the participants were able to discover the unique odor from the urban environment. The common scenes in daily life or nature are mapped to their corresponding scents, while this paper focuses on finding the most common scents in the same type of scenes.Participants selected a scene to take pictures feel and analyze the smell of the scene(the smell was divided into different experience values of 1-5),and finally record the time, place and noise value(the noise was also divided into experience values of different values of 1-5).When collecting the questionnaire ,we will Qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis these subjective data to get the unique smell scene in each scene of Beijing. The result are used as the basis for the subsequent smell calculation model and smell database.Due to the differences between regions and cultures, different smell may appear in the same scene, because I chose different scenes(and representative scenes)in Beijing for this study. Finally, the data collected during the experiment were used to explore the connection between scene and smell.The whole experiment was divided into four parts.The experiment started on the internet. Volunteers collect data, recover and process data, analyze and summarize data.

This paper presents a unified grammatical framework capable of reconstructing a variety of scene types (e.g., urban, campus, county etc.) from a single input image. The key idea of our approach is to study a novel commonsense reasoning framework that mainly exploits two types of prior knowledges: (i) prior distributions over a single dimension of objects, e.g., that the length of a sedan is about 4.5 meters; (ii) pair-wise relationships between the dimensions of scene entities, e.g., that the length of a sedan is shorter than a bus. These unary or relative geometric knowledge, once extracted, are fairly stable across different types of natural scenes, and are informative for enhancing the understanding of various scenes in both 2D images and 3D world. Methodologically, we propose to construct a hierarchical graph representation as a unified representation of the input image and related geometric knowledge. We formulate these objectives with a unified probabilistic formula and develop a data-driven Monte Carlo method to infer the optimal solution with both bottom-to-up and top-down computations. Results with comparisons on public datasets showed that our method clearly outperforms the alternative methods.
