The main purpose of this paper was to analyse the in which entrepreneurial culture can be infused in universities. The study adopted the intrapreneurship theory. Universities are being required to operate more entrepreneurially, commercialising the outcomes of their research and spinning out new knowledge-based enterprises. Against this background, the study explored the culture of entrepreneurialism at Kyambogo University, in the Faculty of Engineering. The study attempted to answer the question of how the entrepreneurial culture among academic staff in universities can enhance entrepreneurship. The study adopted a descriptive case study design. Data was collected through one-on-one interview, document analysis and site visit and analysed thematically. The findings show that the existing entrepreneurial elements, such as the promotion of a close relationship with the business community and the promotion of teaching of entrepreneurship, are loosely coupled with one another, and that there is an infant entrepreneurial culture at the faculty. Additionally, the study uncovered a number of impediments to the deepening of an entrepreneurial culture, including bureaucratic procedures, limited incentives, and limited financial and technical support for innovative ideas. It was concluded that: Kyambogo University policies are not fully activated to steer entrepreneurship; infrastructural units at the university lack the bargaining strength to negotiate official licensing contracts with industry; and less attention has been given to deepening analysis of how entrepreneurship is mainstreamed in the university. The study recommended that university management should ensure that entrepreneurial activities are fully integrated into all programmes and actions of the university. The main contribution of this paper is that the findings may help universities to design policies that can stimulate entrepreneurial activities.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the entrepreneurial characteristics among university students in India studying business and also comparing the levels of entrepreneurial characteristics between entrepreneurially inclined and entrepreneurially not inclined students. Design/methodology/approach In this study, the authors included six entrepreneurial characteristics, namely, risk taking propensity, innovativeness, locus of control, need for achievement, general self-efficacy and tolerance for ambiguity to define the entrepreneurial profile of students. Convenient sampling was used for collecting the data using a seven-point Likert scale based on 38-items self-administered questionnaire. Data were collected from three universities of different cities, namely, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, CSJM University, Kanpur and KMCUAF University, Lucknow. In total, 300 questionnaires were distributed in each of the universities, and 719 questionnaires were found statistically suitable for the study. Students were asked the question “What career option are you planning to choose after completing your graduation?” to know the inclination of the students. Findings Results of the t-test confirmed that levels of all the entrepreneurial characteristics are higher in entrepreneurially inclined students when compared to entrepreneurially not inclined students except in terms of general self-efficacy. Thus, entrepreneurially inclined students carry higher risk taking propensity, innovativeness, locus of control, need for achievement and tolerance for ambiguity. Research limitations/implications This study is confined only to undergraduate students from business background, and only three universities were included in the sample. Further research can be done taking students from different streams, namely, engineering, science and technology and arts etc. University-wise studies can also be conducted with the view to bring comparability among the students in terms of levels of entrepreneurial characteristics based upon the inclination shown. Practical implications This research provides the deeper understanding about what course contents are effective in developing entrepreneurial characteristics among the students and what are to be added with the view to raise potential entrepreneurs. Originality/value This paper contributes to establishing the differences across different entrepreneurial characteristics between entrepreneurially inclined and non-inclined undergraduate students.

This literature review is intended as an analysis on the current condition of higher education institutions in Indonesia, especially Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Gajah Mada, both of which are leading universities in Indonesia. As a state-owned university that is given an autonomy, the government restricts their subsidy, and this has put both state-owned universities (PTNBH) in a dilemma in an attempt to implement their Tri Dharma's activities, mainly because unclear policy to get the financial income from non-educational costs. This article will highlight some thoughts related to entrepreneurial universities, such as definitions, transformation models, and challenges to become entrepreneurial universities.

This study explores the impact of entrepreneurial orientation on the activities of state universities in the Republic of Serbia. Using the ENTRE-U scale, the researchers have graded the entrepreneurial orientation (EO) of the employees at state universities in the Republic of Serbia. In the theoretical part, the detailed literature review is provided, which contributes to a better understanding of terms like entrepreneurial orientation and entrepreneurial university. Using data from 282 respondents who work at the state universities in the Republic of Serbia, the researchers validate the ENTRE-U questionnaire in a specific context. With this, it is proven that the ENTRE-U scale is applicable not only for developed countries but also for the developing countries, such as the Republic of Serbia. The general conclusion is that with using the ENTRE-U scale, it is possible to predict the level of innovativeness, as well as the nature of innovative activities that are conducted at state universities in the Republic of Serbia. The entrepreneurially oriented universities differ from those which lack entrepreneurial orientation by the extent of their research mobilization, unconventional approaches, the level of cooperation with industries, and the way university policies are implemented.

Universitas Ciputra Surabaya has been known for its Entrepreneurship Education since 2006, and many institutions came to do a benchmark study. More institutions came to Universitas Ciputra Surabaya during the pandemic for requisite entrepreneurship education modules and training. However, articles show conflicting evidence that entrepreneurship education cannot intensify entrepreneurial intention, which leads to a lack of entrepreneurial behavior. Extremely, a journal provided data that entrepreneurship education within several colleges and universities holds little to no responsibility in increasing the entrepreneurial rate among college graduates. This evidence comes from a different context and setting apart from Entrepreneurship Education Curricula developed over the years by Universitas Ciputra Surabaya academics. Of about 58 articles in the journal of entrepreneurship education published by Universitas Ciputra Surabaya academics, 14 articles correlated to entrepreneurial intention. Those 14 articles were processed using meta-analysis. The value of r2 = 0.354 indicates that entrepreneurship education has a very strong influence on entrepreneurial intention. Egger’s test results showed no publication bias within this research. The findings contribute to elevating the efficacy of the stakeholder of Universitas Ciputra Surabaya, especially now that “Program Merdeka Belajar” gives access to a broader community

The data used in the analysis is from 150 graduate students from 12 universities in Yogyakarta. The results indicate that attitudes and perceived behavior control significantly influenced students' entrepreneurial intentions, but not subjective norms. This study helps understand the role of a qualified educational background, namely the Master of Management in shaping entrepreneurial intentions. Finally, this study reveals the importance of examining students' entrepreneurialism in today's digital age.

Whether or not a society can be called ‘entrepreneurial’ depends in part on the legitimacy and esteem accorded to those who pursue the entrepreneurial route. Communities in which entrepreneurship can thrive create more jobs and wealth. Entrepreneurship foments the Schumpeterian process of creative destruction by which the new replaces the old. New opportunities are perceived, capitalized and converted into marketable products or services. Fresh competition in the free market economy and the breaking down of international borders will significantly influence new company formation and the underlying models of entrepreneurial motion. Ample opportunities for creativity and innovation are driving the move towards the formation of small businesses that from the start enter into a fast and high-growth phase – the so-called ‘entrepreneurial growth’ companies. Is there a distinctive role for education in enhancing entrepreneurial capacity bringing together entrepreneurial capacity and opportunities, and thus expanding local entrepreneurial activity in the form of entrepreneurial growth companies? In addressing this question, the paper first looks at two basic models of entrepreneurial motion – the small business model and the growth model – and then investigates the concepts of entrepreneurial learning and organizations for entrepreneurial education (the entrepreneurial universities). Entrepreneurial universities foster interaction and networking. They embed entrepreneurship in academic culture in order to achieve economic returns from the knowledge generated through research projects, empowered teams of teachers, students and business people, face-to-face and electronic relationships, and networked enterprises emerging from their spin-off activity. Finally, the paper identifies agents in the market and seed funds as instrumental organizations in the role of entrepreneurial universities. Endowed with high education and marketable skills, those agents support the new company in creating its own market. Seed funds provide risk-bearing capital and management support, which are complementary ingredients to money and intangible assets from the founder, family and friends.

This study aims to analyze the effect of entrepreneurial knowledge, entrepreneurial skills, and planned control behavior on entrepreneurial intentions. The grand theory used is Teri Planned Behavior from Ajzen (1991). The explanatory survey method was employed as the research method of the study. The research population comprised 506 students with a sample size of 218 respondents. The research sample was taken from a population of all Indonesian accounting education students consisting of students who had attended entrepreneurship courses from the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesian (UPI), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta Negeri (UNY), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), Universitas Negeri Makasar (UNM) and Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED). As the strategy to collect data, all questionnaires in this study have been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed through descriptive analysis and path analysis. The results indicate that entrepreneurial knowledge did not affect perceived control behavior. Thus, variable trimming is conducted. Entrepreneurial skills have a positive effect on perceived control behavior. Similarly, entrepreneurial skills impact entrepreneurial intentions. Perceived behavior control has a positive effect on entrepreneurial intentions. Perceived behavior control is the most dominant variable in influencing entrepreneurial intentions. Future research is recommended to increase entrepreneurship from indicators of experience such as knowing client's problems and entrepreneurial skills, for example, indicators of recognizing opportunities, perceived behavior control through indicators of having opportunities for success, and entrepreneurial intentions through the business ability to start a business.

In line with the government's efforts to encourage the growth of entrepreneurs among the younger generation, several universities in Indonesia (one of them is Universitas Brawijaya) has set an entrepreneurship course as one of the mandatory courses at the undergraduate level. However, to date, no systematic research and publications have been found on the effectiveness of those entrepreneurship education. Therefore, by using the theory of perception, the purpose of this study is to evaluate whether an entrepreneurship education provided to students of Universitas Brawijaya is able to foster their entrepreneurial intentions. Specifically, this study analyzes the effect of entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intentions mediated by feasibility and entrepreneurial self-efficacy. This research was conducted using a quantitative approach. The population of this research is all active students of Universitas Brawijaya who have taken entrepreneurship courses. The sampling technique used was quota sampling with a total of 150 respondents representing 15 faculties. The data collection method was carried out using a survey questionnaire. The analytical tool used in this study is Partial Least Square (PLS). The results of this study indicate that feasibility and entrepreneurial self-efficacy mediate the effect of entrepreneurship education on the student’s entrepreneurial intentions.

This study focuses on determining what factors of entrepreneurial interest can affect student entrepreneurial attitudes, so the population and sample of this study were taken from Business Education Study Program students at the Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, and Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The sample to be used is 355 respondents with random sampling techniques and online survey applications to collect data from January to April 2023. The analysis technique used is regression analysis. The analysis test results showed that simultaneously, the five independent variables significantly affect the attitude of students in entrepreneurship. In contrast, partially, the variables Locus of Control, Need for Achievement, and Self-Efficacy do not affect students' attitudes toward entrepreneurship, and the variables Risk Taking, and Innovativeness affect the attitude of students toward entrepreneurship. The study results show that the novelty of research emphasizes understanding what factors can bring up the intentions and attitudes of entrepreneurship students. Therefore, there is a need for further research related to variables that can affect student interest in generating a positive attitude towards entrepreneurship.

Modern universities are increasingly urged to operate more entrepreneurially, leading them to try to diffuse their knowledge production more systematically, most obviously through scientific articles and patents. The authors investigate the role of universities as knowledge brokers and delimit more precisely the sphere of emergence and influence of university-derived knowledge. The main issue empirically addressed is whether the likelihood of a patenting team being geographically widespread depends on the characteristics of the inventing academic scientists' publishing network. In so doing, the authors estimate the respective influences of scientists' publishing patterns on the range of their entrepreneurial behaviours (represented by their patenting activity).

In order to accelerate economic growth, many countries have developed and implemented different programs and mechanisms. Benefiting universities' knowledge production and human capacity are one of those mechanisms and therefore entrepreneurial universities, in particular, are considered as a strategic factor in order to realize this target. While in many advanced economies, mainly in Europe and United States, entrepreneurial universities have been established over the years, but this has not been realized in emerging economies. Against this background and the activities found in Turkey, this article sheds light on the current state of Turkish universities regarding their development into entrepreneurial universities. Main findings show that existence of IP policy and TTO is driving factors for entrepreneurial universities. In addition, IP awareness activities in the campus, novelty search and using patent during academic promotion motivates universities to become more entrepreneurial.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of universities in preparing disabled students to become entrepreneurially inclined after graduation with the aim of developing an entrepreneurial inclination (EI) model. Design/methodology/approach A cross-sectional survey was employed using 220 disabled universities’ students in the north-central Nigeria. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and structural equation model. All analyses were performed using SPSS version 22 and AMOS version 22. Findings The findings buttress the significant position of universities in promotion entrepreneurial spirit. It revealed that the university’s role (UR), entrepreneurship education (EE) and role models (RMs) have a positive influence on disabled students’ EI. Universities that make provisions for entrepreneurship infrastructure, knowledge and RMs to disabled students will boost their EI. Second, the more lecturers and RMs inspire students, method of teaching and demonstrating enthusiasm are applied in the teaching of entrepreneurship, the better it prepares students for entrepreneurial career after graduation. Research limitations/implications The study is only restricted to Federal Universities in the North-Central Nigeria. Further research could be conducted to cover other tertiary institutions in North-Central Nigeria. Furthermore, the study employed the cross-sectional approach. A longitudinal approach should be employed to study the trend over a period of at least two years. Finally, the factors identified in triggering EI may not be sufficient enough in explaining the phenomenon. There are other factors that may contribute in influencing EI of the disabled students that were not part of this study. Practical implications This study indicates a number of implications for the universities and policy makers. Specifically, EE, UR and RMs make significant contributions to inclination for disabled students. These factors are key for universities in Nigeria to consider in preparing these students to become entrepreneurial graduates. Policy makers and other stakeholders need to develop keen interest in designing entrepreneurship curriculum to accommodate the specific needs of students with disabilities. Originality/value This study is the first in Nigeria to empirically test the relationship between UR, EE and EI as well as the moderating effect of RMs among universities’ disabled students.

Stanford University’s legendary success in technology transfer, based upon a relatively small group of serial faculty entrepreneurs, masked unrealized potential residing in the underutilized inventions of less entrepreneurially experienced faculty and students. An optimum academic entrepreneurship and technology-transfer regime matches various levels of inventor interest and involvement with appropriate organizational competence and support. The ‘Paradox of Success’ is that great organizational success in licensing, or other activities, may reduce the motivation to further advancement, in the Stanford case, introducing support structures for research commercialization that are commonplace in aspiring entrepreneurial universities. Stanford had largely bought into an ideology of a self-organizing innovation ecosystem in Silicon Valley that implied lack of need for explicit entrepreneurial support structures on campus, such as incubator facilities. This belief inhibited policy intervention until a student-organized accelerator project actualizing underutilized entrepreneurial capacity demonstrated that a step change in promoting entrepreneurship at Stanford was necessary and feasible. Case studies based on archival and interview data show the development of Stanford’s entrepreneurial academic culture and university development strategy.

The propensity to engage in entrepreneurship among IUT/UP students: an analysis using Shapero and Sokol's entrepreneurial event theory. Summary: In Benin's universities, teaching entrepreneurship seems to be seen these days as a valuable job-creation tool and an important lever for tackling the recurring problem of unemployment. However, despite this interesting system, many students find it difficult to start their own business after graduating from university. The aim of this article is to understand whether the "attractiveness" variable underlies such behavior on the part of students at the University Institute of Technology of the University of Parakou. To this end, this study used Shapero and Sokol's (1982) theory of the entrepreneurial event to estimate a binary logistic regression. The aim was to explain the entrepreneurial intention of these students. The results obtained show that, while these students are encouraged by their entourage and have the aptitude or ability required to go into entrepreneurship, a weak attraction characterizes their behavior. It is therefore necessary to revise the entrepreneurship training program by introducing coherent professional modules based on an entrepreneurial incentive logic. Keywords: Attraction – Intention Entrepreneurship – Student – Training JEL Classification : A29 – L26 – I29 – M19.

The number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia is still lower than other Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. That is why, entrepreneurial intentions are needed so that more people decide to become entrepreneurs and can contribute to economic growth and provide more jobs in Indonesia. One way to foster entrepreneurial intentions is through education. This study aims to determine the effect of self-efficacy, risk-taking, and the university environment on management students' entrepreneurial intentions. Researchers used quantitative methods with statistical tools Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire to 357 respondents. The results of hypothesis testing show that self-efficacy and the university environment have a positive and significant effect on students' entrepreneurial intentions. Meanwhile, risk-taking does not have a significant effect on entrepreneurial intentions in this study. Entrepreneurial universities are a significant element of entrepreneurial ecosystems and aspire to foster entrepreneurial initiative through their “third mission”. However, while entrepreneurial ecosystems are scrutinized using a contextual approach to detect differences and similarities and how they affect entrepreneurship, little is known about how entrepreneurial universities impact entrepreneurial initiatives in general, considering multiple environments. Drawing on entrepreneurial university and entrepreneurial ecosystem theories, a conceptual framework is proposed that aims to explain the effect of the entrepreneurial university on an entrepreneurial initiative through its three “missions”, using an entrepreneurial ecosystem taxonomy. Based on individual data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, this entrepreneurial initiative analyzed 18 European countries in 2017. The results do not generally support the importance of entrepreneurial universities to entrepreneurial initiative. The relevance of entrepreneurial universities increases in more fragile entrepreneurial ecosystems since individuals need support over multiple dimensions. Conversely, the entrepreneurial universities that are embedded in stronger entrepreneurial ecosystems lose relevance and negatively affect the entrepreneurial initiative. Therefore, the value of entrepreneurial universities is reduced when individuals receive greater support from other dimensions. The variations across both groups suggest that the concept of entrepreneurial universities is not a contemporaneous phenomenon; however, their effect is progressively revealed by the maturity of each university’s mission. This perspective substantially changes the understanding of entrepreneurial universities as a thwartwise strategy, suggesting that the universities’ impact is expanded as their missions gradually evolve. Overall, the study contributes to an understanding of the implications for universities that blindly follow entrepreneurship, neglecting the exogenous environment, namely, the entrepreneurial ecosystem and individual drive.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review and critique the knowledge management (KM) literature within Entrepreneurial universities, providing an overview of the state of research and outlining a future research agenda. Design/methodology/approach In a systematic literature review, 1106 articles indexed at Scopus were initially submitted to a bibliometric analysis. Finally, 150 papers published in a variety of academic journals specializing in the field of Entrepreneurship, KM and Higher Education were analyzed through a content and a bibliometric analysis to minimize mistakes in interpreting findings of collected studies. Findings KM within entrepreneurial university is a research area of growing importance. Findings show that literature on KM models and tools in the entrepreneurial university is fragmented and dominated by unrelated research. Content analysis shows heterogeneous literature, but four major research streams emerge: knowledge transfer in university–industry collaboration; knowledge creation in entrepreneurship education; KM processes for university spin-offs; entrepreneurial university to support knowledge-based regional development. The results show a failure to address the implications of findings for policy makers, which risks making KM in entrepreneurial universities research irrelevant. Research limitations/implications Although different structured literature reviews (SLRs) exist separately in the field of KM and entrepreneurial universities, to the authors’ best knowledge, no studies exist in the intersection between the two fields. Originality/value The paper presents the first attempt to provide a comprehensive SLR of the articles dealing with models and processes of KM in the entrepreneurial university. Despite the increasing literature, this research area is still fragmented and undertheorized, thus requiring more systematic and holistic studies, considering both the economic and the social aspects of KM within universities. The paper’s findings can offer insights into future research avenues.

This article investigates the evolving University–Industry–Government (UIG) linkages pattern in Taiwan, a latecomer catch-up country in terms of its late technology development and pursuing a targeted strategy of catch-up. The focus is on the funding sources available to universities and on their significance in defining the essentials of operating entrepreneurial universities. The results demonstrate that both public and private funding sources are important for assisting the build of entrepreneurial universities to reinforce such linkages, but their effects are divergent. The essential role of private research funding is not determined by the amount of funding, but is rather one of a guide to fill in the gaps in technological development between universities and industries. In comparison, public funding is a pre-requisite to and catalyst in attracting private research funding to bridge the gaps between university and industry research and to correct the misalignment of its impacts. The results also suggest that the UIG linkages available to an entrepreneurial university are closely associated with patterns of regional innovation and industrial development.

Today, universities are seen as the main actors of technological change, innovation, and social development; this situation causes new roles for universities, as well as forces them to change. At present, universities face very important expectations such as research and entrepreneurial activities by providing the industry–university cooperation along with education and training. In order to manage that transformation, it is seen that the universities across the world evolve to context of entrepreneurial university. Within this general framework, the main objective of this research is to determine where Turkish universities stand on the transformation of entrepreneurial university. In order to achieve this goal, 68 public universities’ strategic plans, which are thought to reflect the intentions for the future, were subjected to content analysis. The findings showed that the majority of universities in our country did not have entrepreneurial university features but they have strong intention and desire for a transformation in this direction.
