The article looks into the reasons underlying the outspread of the full-scale mechanism of banking regulation over U. S. investment banks. We analyze the effect of the Basel III standards on stress-resilience of investment banks and examine the role of U. S. investment banks in ensuring financial stability. Based on regression analysis we found that minimum capital adequacy standards of Basel III do not have negative effect on ROE of the U. S. investment banks that are G-SIB category-designate; however, additional capital requirements (Higher Loss Absorbency (HLA) surcharge) that depend on G-SIB’s systemic significance according to their bucket as per Financial Stability Board classification do have significant and negative effect on ROE in the post crisis period. Besides, leverage requirements that also depend on G-SIB’s systemic significance have a statistically significant effect on ROE.

This study presents an integrated analysis of cohesive bank-collapsed material transportation in a high-curvature channel with a non-cohesive riverbed. A numerical model was established to simulate the erosion and transportation of collapsed materials in a 180° U-bend channel after verification. The novel aspect of this study is that the quantities of the collapsed materials that transformed into suspended and bed loads were comprehensively analyzed. The results show that finer collapsed sediments were only transformed into suspended loads after being eroded, while the coarser particles transformed into both suspended loads and bed loads. When the flow charge was 30 L/s, the quantity of collapsed materials (S1 and S2) that transported downstream was smaller, and coarser materials transformed into suspended loads with a ratio of 88.12–99.86% and bed loads with a ratio of 11.18–0.14%. When the flow charge was 55 L/s, due to the greater shear stress, the quantity of collapsed materials (S1 and S2) that transported downstream was greater, and the ratio ranged from 46.65% to 49.88% and from 50.12% to 53.35%, respectively. This research provides theoretical and practical benefits that reveal the mechanisms of channel bend evolution.

Objective: despite the technologic advances in myocardial perfusion imaging, we keep using an uncomfortable and sometimes impracticable patient position - supine with arms raised above the head (U). The purpose of this study was to investigate whether perfusion and functional cardiac gated SPECT scan results of acquisition U are equivalent to another position modality: supine with arms down at the sides of the trunk (D). Methods and Results: we performed U acquisition and in sequence D acquisition in 120 patients (pts) using a one-day MPI (rest-gated/stress), with 99mTc-sestamibi (370 MBq and 1110 MBq). Images were processed by the iterative reconstruction method (OSEM). Rest (R) and stress (S) studies were scored using 17-segments model. Functional parameters (left ventricular ejection fraction, and volumes) were automatically obtained by the quantitative gated SPECT (QGS) program. According to the degree of stress defects observed in U study, the patients were categorized in two subgroups: normal (SSS ≤ 3 or < 5%) and abnormal (SSS>3 or ≥ 5%). Shoulder/back pain occurred in 23.3% of U patients and in 5% of D. No significant differences between U and D were found for SSS (p = 0.82) and SRS (p = 0.74) in normal group. In abnormal group, good correlation was found between U and D modes for SSS (Rho = 0.95, p = 0.0001) and SRS (Rho = 0.96 p = 0.0001), but the mean SSS (12.53 ± 7.54) and SRS (10.60 ± 7.08) values of D were significantly lower (p < 0.05) than SSS (13.43 ± 6.81) and SRS (11.33 ± 6.97) of U mode. Function measurements presented good correlations, except for end-diastolic volume (p = 0.0001). Conclusion: although D mode appears to be more comfortable and presented a good correlation with U values of SSS and SRS, in abnormal pts, the extent and severity of defects can be underestimated. Considering clinical implications of an accurate perfusion measurement, the acquisition with the arms down should be avoided.

The influence of the anatase titania nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) content on the structural and optical properties of ZnO/TiO2 nanocomposites (ZTNCs) was demonstrated. The solution blending method was employed to prepare the ZTNCs with various ratios prior to their deposition onto glass substrates to form thin films. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) techniques revealed that the crystallite size, grain size, and particle size of each TiO2 and ZnO NPs are almost equal. In addition to these techniques, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) evidenced the homogeneity distribution of the TiO2 within the ZnO NPs. The structural properties of the wurtzite ZnO NPs such as crystallite size, lattice strain, dislocation density, bond length (L) of Zn–O, energy density (u), lattice stress (L S), Young’s modulus, and unit cell volume (V), can be tuned by incorporation of anatase TiO2 NPs in various content. Moreover, the optical properties of the wurtzite ZnO NPs such as absorbance, optical energy band gap (E g), energy gap tail (E u), steepness parameter (σ), and emission intensity can be tuned by incorporation of anatase TiO2 NPs in various contents. The E g and σ of ZnO NPs were decreased to reach at 2.41 eV and 0.0051, respectively, whereas the E u was increased to 4.598 eV upon the increment content of TiO2 NPs.

This technical study to predict the fatigue of the body structure made from material press submarine HY - 80. Because of the major operating expense that occurred on submarines that work is the hydrostatic load due to the nature of its operations. This resulted in hydrostatic load mains voltage (principal stress) which occurs when the submarine was on the surface and into the operational depth starting with Sarat depth (T) 5,5m to 50m and 100m. Events dives from the ocean surface to a depth of operational and back to the surface again, causing the submarine to change the burden of recurrent (repeated load) it contribute substantially to the structure of the material fatigue. Fatigue prediction calculation begins by modeling finite element method (FEM) in the press agency that assumed the form of a similar type submarine U-209 in the form of a hollow cylinder large bergading (web framed hollow cylindrical structure). Calculations carried out by applying the rules of fatigue damage accumulation Palgrem - Miner on S - N curve of materials HY - 80 based on the primary voltage data obtained from the FEM and the safety factor of 2.5. The assumption used is that the submarine has a screen of 120 days in a year. The results of this study show that the fatigue life of the structure of press submarine range 29 years.

An opened natural fracture (NF) intercepted by a pressurized hydro-fracture (HF) will be diverted in a new direction at the tips of the original NF and subsequently form a complex fracture network. However, a clear understanding of the diversion behavior of fracture networks in tight reservoirs with frictional NFs is lacking. By means of the extended finite element method(XFEM), this study investigates the diversion mechanisms of an opened NF intersected by an HF in naturally fractured reservoirs. The factors affecting the diversion behavior are intensively analyzed, such as the location of the NF, the horizontal principal stress difference, the intersection angle between HF and NF, and the viscosity of the fracturing fluid. The results show that for a constant length of NF (7 m): (1) the upper length of the diverted fracture (DF) decreases by about 2 m with a 2 m increment of the upper length of NF ( L u p p e r ), while the length of DF increases 9.06 m with the fluid viscosity increased by 99 mPa · s; (2) the deflection angle in the upper parts increases by 30.8° with the stress difference increased by 5 MPa, while the deflection angle increases by 61.2° with the intersection angle decreased by 30°. It is easier for the opened NF in lower parts than that in upper parts to be diverted away from its original direction. It finally diverts back to the preferred fracture plane (PFP) direction. The diversion mechanisms of the fracture network are the results of the combined action of all factors. This will provide new insight into the mechanisms of fracture network generation in tight reservoirs with NFs.

Purpose. The relationships of drinking, stress, life satisfaction, coping style, and antidepressant use to mental health were examined in a highly educated workforce. Design. This study used a one-time mail-out, mail-back cross-sectional survey design to examine the relationships of mental health with three kinds of stress (life events, work stress, home stress); two kinds of life satisfaction (work and home); use of avoidance coping; and antidepressant use. Setting. This study was conducted at a large worksite in northern California in which the workforce was comprised of predominantly highly educated employees. Subjects. Questionnaires were mailed to a random sample of 10% of 8567 employees, and 504 were completed and returned by participants (59%). Complete data were provided by 460 participants (53%). Measures. Respondents completed the Mental Health Index, the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), and measures of coping style, work and home stress and satisfaction, stressful life events, and antidepressant use. Results. Mean Mental Health Index scores were at the 32nd percentile of the U.S. population-based norms, with low percentile values associated with worse mental health. Using multiple regression analysis, the factors examined in this study were significantly related to Mental Health Index scores as the dependent variable [ F(16, 443) = 27.41, p < .001, adjusted overall R2 = .48]. Poor mental health scores were significantly related to the following: age ( p < .05); screening positively for current harmful or hazardous drinking ( p < .05); having high levels of stress at work ( p < .05) or home ( p < .01); experiencing dissatisfaction with work ( p < .001) or home life ( p = .01); engaging in avoidance coping ( p < .001); and using antidepressants ( p < .001). Employees currently using antidepressants had significantly more outpatient medical and mental health visits, indicating higher health costs. Furthermore, mental health status was also significantly related to the interactions between several pairs of these variables: education and gender, age and job stress, home satisfaction and work stress, home satisfaction and avoidance coping, and home satisfaction and use of antidepressants. Conclusion. Mental health status was poorer on average in a highly educated workforce compared with general U S. norms. Most of the factors that were found to be associated with poorer mental health were ones that are potentially modifiable, such as experiencing more stress and less satisfaction in work and home life and engaging in current hazardous or harmful drinking. The findings that mental health is worse among individual employees who exhibit combinations of these factors suggest that we need to better understand possible effects of these factors in the context of one another. As interpretation of these results may be limited by the single worksite that participated in this study, future research should re-examine these relationships in other worksites varying from this one in geography and demographic characteristics.

Introduction. Pain is classified as acute and chronic. Acute pain implies a painful condition with a rapid onset or of a short course, whereas chronic pain is referred to as a painful condition persisting beyond the normal time of healing. Chronic low back pain has also been correlated with stress-induced inflammation. Psychological distress aggravates pain symptoms and pain induces a stress response in the body by releasing cortisol from the adrenal cortex. The aim of the study. To investigate differences in levels of anxiety, depression, and cortisol blood concentration in patients with acute and chronic vertebral-sacral pain syndrome. Our main goal was to encrease our understanding of the development and persistence of acute and chronic back pain, define risk factors and improve treatment strategies for the patients. Materials and methods: We studied cortisol levels in blood plasma, levels of anxiety and depression in patients with back pain and LV-SI intravertebral disk herniation. The group under investigation included 125 patients, including 65 patients with acute, and 60 with chronic pain syndrome. A Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was used to measure the patient`s pain assessment. Spielbergʼs anxiety test is designed to assess reactive and personal anxiety. Personal anxiety characterizes the degree of a person’s anxiety and emotional tension due to the action of stress factors in general. Reactive anxiety is a patient’s personal condition, which characterizes the degree of his anxiety, and emotional tension in response to the action of a stress factor. The Beck’s Depression Symptoms Questionnaire (BDSQ) includes 21 item, self-report rating inventory that measures characteristic attitudes and symptoms of depression. Results. We found no significant difference according to VAS between groups, at the time of hospitalization, patients in the acute pain group evaluated their pain as 7.15 ± 1.17 points, while in the chronic pain group it was estimated as 6.08 ± 0.96 points (p-value more than 0.05). The concentration of cortisol in blood plasma in the acute pain group patients was 313.3 ± 87.7 mmol/l, and in the chronic pain group – 450.7 ± 121.9 mmol/l, the difference between the groups was insignificant (p-value more than 0.05). The evaluation according to Spielbergʼs anxiety test demonstrated high anxiety levels at the time of examination: in the acute pain group reactive anxiety corresponded to 40.4 ± 12.6 points, in the chronic pain group the same index was 39.5 ± 11.3. Personal anxiety in the group of acute pain was 32.3 ± 13.6, in the group of chronic pain – 41.3 ± 9.7. According to Beck’s Depression Symptoms Questionnaire before the beginning of treatment average score in the acute pain group was estimated as 6.8 ± 1.1 points, while in the chronic pain group this index corresponded to 9.8 ± 0.8 points (probable difference between groups p-value less than 0.05). Comparisons of cortisol concentrations between groups of patients with different levels of pain, anxiety, and depression demonstrated no significant differences. However, cortisol level was higher in the acute pain group among patients who rated their pain syndrome as ʺsevere painʺ (6-7 points according to VAS) (280.2 ± 77.8 mmol/l in the group of acute pain, and 515.0 ± 80.1 mmol/l in the group of chronic pain), as well as among patients with mild depressive symptoms (393.5 ± 19.5 mmol/l in the group with an acute pain compared to 553.1± 68.0 mmol/l in the group with chronic pain syndrome). Conclusions. The study demonstrates differences in pain perception and assessment in patients that suffer from acute and chronic back pain. A high level of personal and reactive anxiety was found among participants. A higher level of depressive symptoms, as well as the disturbances in the diurnal fluctuations of cortisol were detected in the chronic pain group patients.

Abstract Background: Platelet hyperreactivity involves increased secretion of their granule content which promotes platelet aggregation and thrombosis. Platelet hyperreactivity is observed in conditions such as diabetes mellitus and is associated with decreased cardioprotective effect from antiplatelet agents in this patient group. Diabetes is associated with increased endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress from hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia. Protein disulphide isomerase 6 (PDIA6) is an endoplasmic reticulum protein which folds nascent proteins by reduction and oxidation of their disulphide bonds. PDIA6 has been shown to inhibit downstream ER stress pathways by inhibiting the phosphorylation of IRE-1 in fibroblasts (Eletto, Mol Cell, 2014). We hypothesized that ER stress pathways are functional in platelets and that PDIA6 may inhibit ER stress pathways leading to platelet secretion. Methods: We generated conditional PDIA6 knockout mice (PF4Cre+ Pdia6 fl/fl) (CKO) in the megakaryocyte/platelet lineage by CRISPR-Cas9 technology (Fig.1A). Megakaryopoiesis and haemostasis was assessed by bone marrow histology, coagulation assays, platelet aggregation and tail bleeding studies. We induced ER stress of purified platelets by incubation with thapsigargin and tunicamycin. Activation of the PERK and IRE1 pathways was measured by Western blot. Thrombosis was assessed in vitro by microfluidic devices and in vivo by electrolytic injury of the carotid artery. Results: PDIA6 CKO mice displayed a mild macrothrombocytopenia: the mean (+/-SD) platelet count in Pf4Cre+/Pdia6fl/fl was 775 +/- 98 x10 3/ul compared with 874 +/- 55 x10 3/ul in Pdia6fl/fl (p&lt;0.005). The median platelet volume was 6.3 fL in Pf4Cre+/Pdia6fl/fl compared with 5.7 fL in Pdia6fl/fl (p&lt;0.005). Megakaryopoiesis was normal at baseline. However, PDIA6 CKO mice showed significant upregulation of intracellular platelet PDIs including PDIA1, PDIA3 and PDIA4. PDIA6 deficient platelets displayed significant increase of disulphide reductase activity and the generation of free thiols on the platelet surface. Activation of the PERK and IRE-1 pathway at baseline and after induction of ER stress was increased in PDIA6 deficient platelets (Figure 1B, C). There was striking hypersecretion of PDIA1 (Figure 1D) and α-granule proteins (Figure 1E, F) in response to shear and stimulation with thrombin. PDIA6 CKO mice displayed a prothrombotic phenotype with increased platelet adhesion to fibrinogen under shear (500 s-1) and decreased time to carotid artery occlusion (mean+/SD: 10.8 +/-3.2 min in Pf4Cre+/Pdia6fl/fl compared with 15.3 +/-5.2 min in Pdia6fl/fl, n=8-10, p&lt;0.05). Conclusion: We have identified a role for platelet PDIA6 in attenuating platelet ER stress and secretion. This opens avenues for further study into the role of platelet PDIs in conditions with increased ER stress, such as obesity and diabetes. Green gram (Vigna radiata) is considered the chief legume in Pakistan. Thus, current study was conducted to examine the ameliorating effect of phytohormones pre-treatments under salt stress on proteome profile of green gram by sodium-dodecyl-sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). The soluble green gram seedlings proteins were resolved on 4% stacking and 12% resolving gels. The SDS-PAGE resolved 24 polypeptide bands ranging from 200 to 17kDa. Among these, 12 out of 24 bands of proteins were essentials house-keeping or growth proteins of green grams. While, 120, 114.6, 51.8, 29.1, and 22.8 kDa bands were over-expressed under 50 to 350mM salt with phytohormones treatments. The others 104.5 kDa, 99.8 kDa, 95.3 kDa, 91.0 kDa, 55 kDa, 46 kDa, and 17kDa bands were related to the GAᴣ, IAA, and SA induced tolerance. Overall 120 kDa, 114.6 kDa, 104.5 kDa, 99.8, 95.3 kDa, 51.8 kDa, 29.1 kDa and 22.8kDa bands were first time identified in the current study. The information retrieved from NCBI protein database, the resolved peptides were principally belonging to 7S and 8S vicilin, 2S, 8S, 11S, and 16.5S globulins. It is determined that seed priming with SA enhanced tolerance in green gram by rapidly synthesizing stress alleviating peptides.Key word: Cluster analysis, dendrogram, mungbean, salt stress, SDS-PAGEINTRODUCTIONVarious world-wide health concerning organization recommended the use of high graded plant protein such as legumes to prevent the risk of metabolic disorder (Hou et al., 2019). Legumes are most important protein crop on the earth. Among the legumes, the green gram is the major pulses. Its seeds are rich in superior quality storage protein, which account 85% of the total protein while, another 15% have not been broadly studied (Yi-Shen et al., 2018). The soluble storage protein comprises of 60% globulins, 25% albumin and 15% prolamins. Globulins are further divided into 3.4% basic-type (7S), 7.6% legumin-type (11S), and 89% vicilin-type (8S) (Mendoza et al., 2001; Itoh et al., 2006). Other than proteins, the green gram seeds also contain starch, fiber, phenolic compound, saponins, vitamins, calcium zinc, potassium, folate, magnesium, manganese and very low in fat that made it meager man’s meat (Hou et al., 2019). It is also a good source of green manure and fodder (El-Kafafi et al., 2015). Its root has ability to fix 30 to 50 Kg/ha atmospheric nitrogen in the soil which is essential for maintaining soil fertility (Chadha, 2010). The green gram is the valuable and the major Rabi pulse crop of Pakistan. Its cultivation area in 2016-2017 was about 179,000 hectares with seed yield of 130,000 tones. In comparison during 2017-2018, it was cultivated on 161,800 hectares land with 118,800 tones seed yield (GOP, 2018). One of the reasons of this 9% decrease in both land and productivity is the shortage of irrigated land due to soil salinity. The salinity induce oxidative bust in the mungbean cells, caused by responsive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide, singlet oxygen, hydroxyl radical and superoxide radical. The ROS create hindrance in various metabolic processes of plant via interacting with macromolecules like proteins (Alharby et al., 2016). However, phytohormones like gibberellic acid (GAᴣ), indole acetic acid (IAA), and salicylic acid (SA) take part in the biosynthesis of salt tolerance proteins under salinity. These salt tolerance proteins acclimate plants under salinity stress. Application of biotechnology plays a significant role in agriculture (Khan et al., 2017). Therefore, production of particular proteins under salt stress is a specific response of cell which can be analyzed by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). SDS-PAGE is the simple, valid, and cost-effective biochemical marker (Mushtaq et al., 2018). This marker has been widely used to determine the extent of evolutionary variations in crops (El-Kafafi et al., 2015).OBJECTIVES The present study was directed first time with the aim to investigate the toxic effect of sodium chloride (0-350 mM) and stress acclimation by pre-treatment of GAᴣ, IAA, and SA on the proteome profile of NM-92 cultivar of a Pakistani green gram.MATERIALS AND METHODSThe present study was replicated thrice in the plant laboratory of Department of Genetics, Faculty of Science, and University of Karachi. The seeds of mung bean cultivar NM-92 were acquired from National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Islamabad. These freshly collected 15 seedsˉ1 treatment / replication were divided into two sets. The first was named as sodium chloride (SC) stress treatments were imbibed in sterile distilled water (DW) whereas, second set soaked in gibberellic acid (GAᴣ) (BDH Chemicals, England), indole acetic acid (IAA) (Fluka, Switzerland), and salicylic acid (SA) (J.T. Baker, Holland) in the separate beaker for 24 hours under dark condition. After 24 hours, given ample time to both the sets at room temperature. After recovery, all 20 treatments were sown in the 150 X 30 mm sized petri-dishes containing 0, 50, 150, 250, and 350 millimolar (mM) sodium chloride solution (Fisher Scientific, UK) for 72 hours.Protein extraction: Protein extraction was done by taking 0.3g of seedlings in an ice chilled mortar and crushed by adding 600µL 0.2 M Tris-HCl buffer having pH 7.5 contained 5% SDS (w/v) and 5% 2-mercaptoethanol (v/v). The homogenate was incubated at 0oC for 30 min., boiled in the water bath for 3 min. at 100oC. Samples were centrifuged in Heraeus Biofuge D-37520, Germany for 30 min. at 8000 rpm. The protein supernatant was saved at below 0°C for quantitative and qualitative determination with minor modifications. The total soluble protein content of the samples was estimated via “Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) standard curve” and explicit in µg protein milligramˉ1 fresh weight of mung seedlings.Bovine serum albumin standard curve (2000 μg/mL): Total protein standard curve was made by dissolving 0.05g of Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) in 25mL of distilled water. Ten serial dilutions were made from 0.1 mL to 1mL by BSA solution then performed Lowry. A standard curve of total proteins was plotted by taking BSA absorbance at Y-axis and 2000 μg BSA / mL at X-axisSample preparation for SDS-PAGE: For qualitative assessment of total proteins; the 35μL of saved protein supernatant was combined with 15μL of sample diluting buffer (SDB). The SDB was made up of 0.0625 M Tris-HCl pH 6.8 with 2% of SDS, 10% of glycerol, 0.003% of bromophenol blue dye and 5% of 2-mercaptoethanol. Boil the 50μL protein SDB supernatant at 100oC in water bath for 3 min., centrifuged at 6000 rpm for 4 min. The supernatant was loaded on SDS-PAGE gel with the given formulae. The SDS- PAGE: Total proteins were fractionated via SDS-PAGE with 4% stacking and 12% resolving gel. The resolving gel of 12% was made by taking 6mL solution A, 1.8 mL 3 M Tris 1 M HCl buffer pH 8.8, 144μL 10% SDS, 5.74 mL sterile distilled water, 720μL 1.5% ammonium persulphate (APS) in deionized water and 10μL TEMED. While, stacking was composed of 1.25mL of solution A, 2.5mL of 0.5M Tris 1M HCl buffer pH 6.8, 100μL 10% SDS, 1.8 mL of distilled water, 500μL 1.5% APS and 12μL TEMED. Solution A was prepared by conjoining 30% acrylamide and 0.8% N, N’-methylene-bisacrylamide in deionized water. To avoid polymerization in the beaker; the prepared solution was quickly poured into the 3 mm thick gel plates after adding TEMED. The stacking was lined over resolving gel, then combs were inserted between the gel plates of SCIE-PLAS TV-100 separation system, UK, and allowed to polymerize for ½ an hour. After polymerization gel was placed in the tank which were filled with Tris-Glycine buffer (electrode buffer) pH 8.4 then combs were removed. The electrode buffer contained 0.3% Tris, 1.41% Glycine and 0.1% SDS in 2000mL d/w. The gel was pre-run for 15 min. at 60 volts and 120 mA currents. The prepared SDS-PAGE samples were loaded in wells with BlueStepTM Broad Range Protein Marker, AMRESCO, USA as standard and run at 60 volts & 120 mA for about 45 min. When samples entered in resolving gel, and then gave 100 volts and 200 mA currents for around 2.5 hours. Furthermore, electrophoresis was carried out at a constant watt. The Gel was washed with 30% ethanol on Uni Thermo Shaker NTS-1300 EYELA, Japan at the constant shaking for 30 min. Then gels were placed in 10% glacial acetic acid in 50% methanol solution (Fixative) for 24 hours. SDS Gel was stained until protein bands were visible thereat placed as 5% of Methanol in 7.5% acetic acid glacial solution to destain the bands background. SDS-PAGE stain composed of 0.125% coomassie brilliant blue R-250 dissolved in 40% of Methanol and 7% acetic acid glacial solution. The stain was stirred on Magnetic stirrer & hot plate M6/1, Germany for 6-10 hours before used. Photographs were taken by Sanyo digital camera VPC-T1284BL and bands were scored through numbering pattern. Gels preserved in 10% acetic acid solution at 4°C.Interpretation of bands and data analysis: The total soluble protein bands relative mobility calculated by below formulae and Dendrogram was constructed via SPSS v. 20Where,F=(Migrated distance of protein band)/(Migrated distance of dye front)Slop=(Log MW of protein marker lower limit band–log〖MW of protein marker upper limit band )/(RF protein marker lower limit band –RF of protein marker upper limit band)RESULTS:The total soluble proteins extracted from green gram were perceived by SDS-PAGE Blue StepTm broad range biochemical markers. The protein-based marker was used to evaluate the toxic effect of sodium chloride along with pre-treatments of GAᴣ, IAA, and SA on proteome assay. In the current work, seedlings total soluble proteome resolved 24 polypeptide bands ranging from 200 to 17.1 kDa were recognized by using SDS-PAGE. The figure 1 showed Dendrogram assay, which classified the 20 treatments of SC, GAᴣ, IAA and SA into two major clusters where, the cluster I was the largest one (figure 1). Cluster I consisted of 15 treatments that further divided into I-A, and I-B. The pre-treatments of SC50+SA, SC150+SA, SC250+SA, and SC350+IAA were grouped together into C-1 of sub-cluster I-A. The C-2 of sub-cluster I-A, pre-treatment SC350+SA was most diverse among 20 treatments. The C-1 treatments showed 99% homology when compared with each other while, it was 97% similar with C-2. The sub-cluster I-B comprised another 10 treatments, SC0+GAᴣ, SC50+GAᴣ, SC150+GAᴣ, SC250+GAᴣ, SC350+GAᴣ, SC0+IAA, SC50+IAA, SC150+IAA, SC250+IAA, and SC0+SA that were also 99% similar for total proteins. Sub-cluster I-B pre-treatments was exhibiting 94% homology with the sub-cluster I-A. The second cluster was the smallest one that was divided into two sub-clusters, II-A and II-B. The II-A was comprised of SC50, SC150, and SC250 while, sub-cluster II-B consisted of SC0 and SC350. Within each sub-cluster, pre-treatments expressed 99% homology whereas, II-A was 97 different from II-B. Furthermore, cluster I showed 75% similarities with cluster II (figure 1). The seedlings storage proteome profile of green gram was shown in table 1.The results showed that 120kDa, 114.6 kDa, 51.8 kDa, 29.1 kDa and 22.8 kDa proteins bands were not induced at 0 mM SC, GAᴣ, IAA, and SA. The table 1 depicted the presence of 120 kDa and 114.6 kDa bands only at 350 mM SC level with all phytohormones treatments. Similarly, 51.8 kDa protein bands were appearing at 150SC, 250SC and 350SC stress with phytohormones. Based on the information collected from the NCBI protein database, this peptide was related to the 8S globulin alpha subunits. The two other, 7S globulins sub-units having 29.1kDa and 22.8 kDa molecular weights bands were synthesized under 50mM, 150mM, 250mM, 350mM SC stress with phytohormones. Concerning protein polypeptide of molecular weight 104.5 kDa, 99.8 kDa, 91.0 kDa, 55.0 kDa, and 46.0 kDa, those were induced by GAᴣ, IAA and SA at 0 to 350 mM SC. While, 17kDa protein band was appearing in SA, and IAA treated samples and 95.3kDa band was only present in SA treatment. Other 12 protein bands were present in all treatments proved as house-keeping proteins of green gram (table 1).DISCUSSIONThe SDS-PAGE profiling for proteome is the reliable and applied biochemical approach that has been used as biochemical marker in various crop differentiation, and characterization. In the current study, first time SDS-PAGE was utilized to investigate the impact of GAᴣ, IAA, and SA pre-soaking on green gram under salt toxicity. The salt toxicity adversely affects all seed, seedling, and plant metabolic process (Parveen et al., 2016). At salt toxicity, the endogenous GAᴣ, IAA, and SA levels markedly decrease (El-Khallal et al., 2009). In such condition, exogenous application of GAᴣ, IAA, and SA enhance seedlings survival rate by increasing synthesis of seed storage proteins. Likewise, our Dendrogram characterization based on 20 treatments showed significant diversity under 0 to 350 mM SC stress. The salicylic acid treatments were grouped together except SC0+SA treatment, exhibiting a close relationship, which proved its acclimating role under salt stress. These findings will help plant breeder toward enhancing food quality and quantity of green gram in future breeding programme on saline sodic land. The SDS-PAGE assay revealed 200. kDa, 109.4 kDa, 77 kDa, 68 kDa, 49 kDa, 38 kDa, 33 kDa, 26 kDa, 24 kDa, 22 kDa, 21 kDa and 19 kDa fractions as essential green gram proteins. Among these, 68 kDa, 49 kDa, 33 kDa, 26 kDa, 24 kDa and 21 kDa peptides were seed biotinylated isoform protein (Riascos et al., 2009), putative NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit H (Gostinčar et al., 2019), heat shock protein 33 (Hamidian et al., 2015), globulin protein, seed coat / maturation protein (Dhaubhadel et al., 2005), and protein for dimerization. While, 22 kDa proteins belonged to the class of prolamin alpha zein Z1C1_2, Z1C1_4, and Z1C1_8 precursors, and 19kDa peptide was related with Z1A1_2, Z1A2_2, and Z1B_6 precursors (Miclaus et al., 2011). Further, the 91 kDa peptide is sucrose synthase SS1 protein, and 77kDa protein is the NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase (Wang et al., 2004). Also, the phosphatase-associated two other proteins having 46 and 55 kDa molecular weight were reported earlier in Mucuna pruriens. Hameed et al. (2012) and Malviya et al. (2008) found 55 and 46kDa peptides as 7S vicilin small sub-units and 17kDa as 11S globulins sub-unit in the studied Vigna radiata. Some other molecular weight proteome such as 68 kDa and 49kDa are 7S vicilin, 33kDa is 8S vicilin, 38 and 26kDa 8S globulins, 24kDa 11S globulins, and 22kDa 16.5S globulins. These proteins required for germination and seed establishment of green gram plant (Hameed et al., 2012).The vast accumulation of 23kDa and 22kDa peptides under salt stress by salicylic acid, were reported previously in the mangrove Bruguiera parviffora and Zea mays (El-Khallal et al., 2009). Correspondingly, El-Kafafi et al. (2015) reported the presence of 115kDa, 23kDa, and 22kDa bands in the salt tolerant lines of green gram. These proteomes induced under salt stress may play a pivotal part in the stress acclimation and osmotic adjustment. Similarly, the induction of 104 kDa and 100kDa MW polypeptide by SC stress in the salt tolerant genotypes of green gram indicated the functional role of phytohormones in various metabolic and defense response El-Kafafi et al. (2015); Alharby et al. (2016), El-Khallal et al. (2009), Qados (2010). Ali et al. (2007), Alharby et al. (2016), and El-Kafafi et al. (2015) observed 17kDa, 26kDa, 33kDa and 77kDa bands involving in salt tolerance and can be considered as a positive biochemical marker for salt stress. Further, 26 kDa MW peptide also functions as osmotin under the salt stress that involved in enhancing the accumulation of glycine betaine and proline in the cells. Hence, proteome assay of green gram showed that GAᴣ, IAA, and SA could regulate the expression of salt stress proteins that are anticipated to play a crucial part in the salt tolerance mechanism. Likewise, the involvement of phytohormones in the induction of changes in the proteome profile pattern was attributed to their part in managing cell division by regulating some genes of apical meristems.CONCLUSIONFinally, the results revealed the presence of the ten new bands with MW of 200kDa, 120 kDa, 114.6 kDa, 109.4kDa, 104.5kDa, 99.8kDa, 95.3kDa, 51.8kDa, 29.1kDa and 22.8kDa have not reported previously under salt stress with phytohormones treatments in green gram. Furthermore, it was observed that phytohormones alleviate the negative impact of salt stress on green gram by enhancing synthesis of salt defense polypeptides. Hence, higher accumulation of proteins was observed in salicylic acid treated seedlings. Thus, present work recommended the pre-soaking of phytohormones to overcome the toxic impact of sodium chloride on green gram. Further research is needed on a biomolecular level to reveal the mechanism of signalling pathways under sever salt stress.CONFLICT OF INTERESTBoth authors have declared that no disagreement of interest regarding this research.REFERENCES Alharby, H. [Editors’ Comment: The following is the text of Mr. Kenny's remarks at the Second European Corporate Governance Conference, which was organized by the Vlerick Management Institute and the University of Gent, Belgium, and held at the Belgian National Bank, Brussels, 28 & 29 November 2002. The conference, which was convened by Professor Lutgart Van den Berghe of the University of Gent, was dedicated to the intensive debate over the marks and characteristics of “European Capitalism” in light of the international corporate governance debate, which has been affected by the recent earthquakes in the confidence of investors, shareholders and stakeholders precipitated by the corporate scandals of Enron, Worldcom, Global Crossing and others. The conference also took note of the impact of America's new Sarbanes-Oxley legislation, which seeks to respond to the wave of corporate scandals, on the international corporate governance debate.

AbstractBuoy observations from a 1999 Gulf of Mexico field program (GOM99) are used to investigate the relationships among friction velocity u*, wind speed U, and amount of swell present. A U–u*sea parameterization is developed for the case of pure wind sea (denoted by u*sea), which is linear in U over the range of available winds (2–16 m s−1). The curve shows no sign of an inflection point near 7–8 m s−1 as suggested in a 2012 paper by Andreas et al. on the basis of a transition from smooth to rough flow. When observations containing more than minimal swell energy are included, a different U–u* equation for U < 8 m s−1 is found, which would intersect the pure wind-sea curve about 7–8 m s−1. These two relationships yield a bilinear curve similar to Andreas et al. with an apparent inflection near 7–8 m s−1. The absence of the inflection in the GOM99 experiment pure wind-sea curve and the similarity of the GOM99 swell-dominated low wind speed to Andreas et al.’s low wind speed relationship suggest that the inflection may be due to the effect of swell and not a flow transition. Swell heights in the range of only 25–50 cm may be sufficient to impact stress at low wind speeds.

Increased competition and problem loan in the banking sectors force banks to operate its activities more efficiently. However, bank&rsquo;s efficiency, capital and risk are interrelated. The present study is made on assessing the inter-temporal relationship between efficiency, capital and risk of commercial banks in Bangladesh during the period 2011-2016 by setting simultaneous equation. The study uses three-stage least square model (3SLS) and dynamic panel generalized method of moments (GMM) model to estimate efficiency-capital-risk relationship. The study reports that both models provide consistent result regarding the relationship of bank&rsquo;s operational efficiency with capital and risk and inconsistent result about the relationship between capital and risk. The study concludes that a U-shaped relationship is exited in the 3SLS model of efficiency-capital-risk relationship as banks&rsquo; operational efficiency and risk have positive relationship with capital and bank size, indicating that with increased capital and bank size, bank&rsquo;s operational efficiency is improved at decreasing rate due to increase in bank&rsquo;s risk.

ABSTRACTThe ubiquitous aquatic bacteriumCaulobacter crescentusis highly resistant to uranium (U) and facilitates U biomineralization and thus holds promise as an agent of U bioremediation. To gain an understanding of howC. crescentustolerates U, we employed transposon (Tn) mutagenesis paired with deep sequencing (Tn-seq) in a global screen for genomic elements required for U resistance. Of the 3,879 annotated genes in theC. crescentusgenome, 37 were found to be specifically associated with fitness under U stress, 15 of which were subsequently tested through mutational analysis. Systematic deletion analysis revealed that mutants lacking outer membrane transporters (rsaFaandrsaFb), a stress-responsive transcription factor (cztR), or a ppGpp synthetase/hydrolase (spoT) exhibited a significantly lower survival rate under U stress. RsaFaand RsaFb, which are homologues of TolC inEscherichia coli, have previously been shown to mediate S-layer export. Transcriptional analysis revealed upregulation ofrsaFaandrsaFbby 4- and 10-fold, respectively, in the presence of U. We additionally show thatrsaFamutants accumulated higher levels of U than the wild type, with no significant increase in oxidative stress levels. Our results suggest a function for RsaFaand RsaFbin U efflux and/or maintenance of membrane integrity during U stress. In addition, we present data implicating CztR and SpoT in resistance to U stress. Together, our findings reveal novel gene targets that are key to understanding the molecular mechanisms of U resistance inC. crescentus.IMPORTANCECaulobacter crescentusis an aerobic bacterium that is highly resistant to uranium (U) and has great potential to be used in U bioremediation, but its mechanisms of U resistance are poorly understood. We conducted a Tn-seq screen to identify genes specifically required for U resistance inC. crescentus. The genes that we identified have previously remained elusive using other omics approaches and thus provide significant insight into the mechanisms of U resistance byC. crescentus. In particular, we show that outer membrane transporters RsaFaand RsaFb, previously known as part of the S-layer export machinery, may confer U resistance by U efflux and/or by maintaining membrane integrity during U stress.

AbstractIn this study, we aim to clarify the influence based on bone resorption markers at onset of stress fracture. Also, we will clarify the state of the bone resorption markers of female long distance runners who have a history of stress fracture and also ones who routinely practices running long distances. Participants comprised 19 female long distance athletes. The survey period was 2011–2014, and we measured u-NTX as a bone resorption marker at least twice a year, taking the mean±SD of the periodic measured values without stress fracture as the mean value. Measurements were collected sample when stress fractures developed. 132 u-NTX measurements were taken from 19 participants. As a result, the average was 41.03±12.31 nmolBCE/mmolCRE (Q1: 33.15, Q2: 40.55, Q3: 47.95). In six of the 19 participants, u-NTX could be measured following a stress fracture. The mean value of u-NTX for those participants was 40.16±9.10 nmolBCE/mmolCRE, increasing to 64.08±16.07 nmolBCE/mmol CRE with the stress fracture (p<0.01). The findings showed that, in adult female long distance runners, u-NTX values when there was no stress fracture were within the standard value for mean premenopausal women, but increased when the athletes suffered from a stress fracture.

Reeds biomass has been successfully extracted. It calcinated with annealing temperatures at 800 °C (A800), 850 °C (A850), and 900 °C (A900). The x-ray pattern showed that it has a cristoballite (SiO2) crystal structure. The band gap energy values are 3.8 eV, 3.7 eV and 4.7 eV, respectively. FTIR spectra show the groups are silanol, siloxane, and monohydride. Quantitatively, it provide results to determine the optical properties and dielectric functions which indicate shift to longer wavelengths with an increase in annealing temperature. The morphology gives different image where the particles are formed flakes (A800), aggregates (A850) and porous aggregates (A900). Full Text: PDF References A. F. Ramdja, R. A. Silalahi, N. Based on the submarine soft rock supporting engineering in Beizao Mine, the physical model tests of four kinds of supports were carried out including high strength (HS) roadway without support, HS soft rock roadway with U-shape steel support (U-S-S-S), low strength (LS) roadway with bolt support (B-S), and LS roadway with U-S-S. The thermal infrared (TIR) changes with the fracture and damage of roadway are investigated. It is discovered that the TIR radiation is the stronger in the stress concentrated area, strong friction and interaction range between U-steel support and roadway than that in the stress relaxed area and week friction. The TIR temperature (TIRT) of the fracture increased higher and changed rapidly than other parts. The TIR radiation of soft rock is influenced with seawater. The TIR-anomaly appears at the stress concentrated area, interaction ranges and fractures. The TIR omens occur when load is 65%~90% of the peak load.

Two sets of shock compression tests (i.e. conventional and reverse impact) were conducted to determine the shock response of two rock materials using a plate impact facility. Embedded manganin stress gauges were used for the measurements of longitudinal stress and shock velocity. Photon Doppler velocimetry was used to capture the free surface velocity of the target. Experimental data were obtained on a fine-grained marble and a coarse-grained gabbro over a shock pressure range of approximately 1.5–12 GPa. Gabbro exhibited a linear Hugoniot equation of state (EOS) in the pressure–particle velocity ( P – u p ) plane, while for marble a nonlinear response was observed. The EOS relations between shock velocity ( U S ) and particle velocity ( u p ) are linearly fitted as U S = 2.62 + 3.319 u p and U S = 5.4 85 + 1.038 u p for marble and gabbro, respectively. A Windows interface XSUN-2017 facilitating the deterministic radiation transport and cross-section sensitivity-uncertainty (S/U) calculation is presented. The package was developed to assist the users in the preparation of input cards, rapid modification, and execution of the complete chain of codes including TRANSX, PARTISN, and SUSD3D, all available from the OECD/NEA Data Bank and RSICC. The objective of this work was to make the input and output handling for these codes as user-friendly as possible, passing information among codes internally. XSUN-2017 allows a user-friendly viewing of results obtained from the PARTISN and SUSD3D programs. The first version of the Windows interface XSUN-2013 was developed in 2013 and submitted to OECD/NEA Data Bank Computer Code Collection and RSICC in early 2014. An updated version, XSUN-2017, will be released in 2017. The package includes also the new version of the SUSD3D code. The XSUN-2017 and SUSD3D code systems and recent improvements and updates are described. Examples of the use and validation are presented, including the S/U intercomparison exercise using the SNEAK-7 benchmarks involving the XSUN-2017 code system comparison with the codes such as TSUNAMI, SERPENT, and MCNP6, and the S/U analysis of the keff and βeff parameters for the MYRRHA accelerator driven system (ADS).

Carnivorous plants from the Lentibulariaceae form a variety of standard and novel vegetative organs and survive unfavorable environmental conditions. Within Genlisea, only G. tuberosa, from the Brazilian Cerrado, formed tubers, while Utricularia menziesii is the only member of the genus to form seasonally dormant tubers. We aimed to examine and compare the tuber structure of two taxonomically and phylogenetically divergent terrestrial carnivorous plants: Genlisea tuberosa and Utricularia menziesii. Additionally, we analyzed tubers of U. mannii. We constructed phylogenetic trees using chloroplast genes matK/trnK and rbcL and used studied characters for ancestral state reconstruction. All examined species contained mainly starch as histologically observable reserves. The ancestral state reconstruction showed that specialized organs such as turions evolved once and tubers at least 12 times from stolons in Lentibulariaceae. Different from other clades, tubers probably evolved from thick stolons for sect. Orchidioides and both structures are primarily water storage structures. In contrast to species from section Orchidioides, G. tuberosa, U. menziesii and U. mannii form starchy tubers. In G. tuberosa and U. menziesii, underground tubers provide a perennating bud bank that protects the species in their fire-prone and seasonally desiccating environments.

R e s u l t s : There were no differences in body mass index of male and female groups in control and stress group.Subsequent analysis between two sexes showed that males subjects had significantly higher systolic (124.7±40.1 mmHg) and diastolic bloodpressure (76.56±2.48 mmHg). Heart rate (84.6±2.63) increases in stress condition, in both sexes, but in males the increasing of heart rate ismore than in females. Whereas females had higher respiratory frequency in stress condition, as compared to males. The levels of T3 in femalestress group were higher than male stress group but statistically not significant. The mean values of T4 were highly significant in female stressgroup than in male stress group. C o n c l u s i o n s : Stress responses to examination are different between two sexes. The differences in responsesto examination stress between male and female showed a greater increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rateand also thyroid hormones in response to stress. It is suggested that as the examination is a stressful condition and different effects of stresson male and female medical students should be considered. The clinical presentation is palpitations, tremors, nervousness, apathy, fatigue, thirst, and emotional un-stability is due to the increase of thyroid hormones. Students are guided to remain relaxed, as neurotransmitters andhormones are released which may effect the overall performance of the students. Further study may be down to find out the effects of stresson other systems of the body which may be helpful in future to avoid the poor mental health status during the examination.

Upon the accumulation of unfolded proteins in the mammalian endoplasmic reticulum (ER), X-box binding protein 1 (XBP1) premessenger RNA (premRNA) is converted to mature mRNA by unconventional splicing that is mediated by the endonuclease inositol-requiring enzyme 1. The transcription factor protein (p) XBP1 spliced (S), which is translated from mature XBP1 mRNA, contains the nuclear localization signal and the transcriptional activation domain and activates the transcription of target genes, including those encoding ER chaperones in the nucleus. We show that pXBP1 unspliced (U) encoded in XBP1 pre-mRNA was constitutively expressed and markedly accumulated at the recovery phase of ER stress. pXBP1(U) contained the nuclear exclusion signal instead of the transcriptional activation domain and shuttled between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. Interestingly, pXBP1(U) formed a complex with pXBP1(S), and the pXBP1(U)–pXBP1(S) complex was sequestered from the nucleus. Moreover, the complex was rapidly degraded by proteasomes because of the degradation motif contained in pXBP1(U). Thus, pXBP1(U) is a negative feedback regulator of pXBP1(S), which shuts off the transcription of target genes during the recovery phase of ER stress.

Background: To establish a method to prevent and manage fatigue caused by psychological and physical stress in young females, early detection factors, such as understanding of fatigue and causes of psychological and physical stress, as well as a review of early management of psychiatric disease, are important. With increasing knowledge regarding the diverse causes of stress, it is important to select biomarkers with consideration of the types of stress burden and mechanisms underlying the development of physical symptoms. The methods used to search for stress characteristics is an issue that needs to be addressed. However, consensus regarding objective assessment methods for impaired mental health is lacking. Methods: We examined the effects of an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE), considered to be a uniform source of psychological and physical stress, on biomarkers of oxidative stress and fatigue in 16 third-year female medical university students (21.3 ± 2.1 years old) in Japan with a normal menstrual cycle. A self-administered questionnaire consisting of Zung’s Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was used to assess subjective stress. Furthermore, stress-related biomarkers (urinary 8-hydroxy-2ʹ-deoxyguanosine [u-8-OHdG], urinary 5-hydroxytryptamine [u-5-HT], and salivary human herpesvirus-6 [s-HHV-6]) were examined at 1 month, 1 week, and 1 day before, and 1 week after the OSCE. Results: The results indicated that the OSCE did not have effects on u-8-OHdG, a biomarker of oxidative stress. However, u-5-HT and s-HHV-6 were found to be elevated in examinations performed prior to the OSCE. Conclusions: The present findings suggest that u-5-HT and s-HHV-6 levels can be used for objective assessment of mental and physical fatigue in young females, including that produced not only by knowledge regarding an upcoming OSCE, but also by skill and attitude aspects related to that examination.

The pandemic of COVID-19 has afflicted every individual and has initiated a cascade of directly or indirectly involved events in precipitating mental health issues. The human species is a wanderer and hunter-gatherer by nature, and physical social distancing and nationwide lockdown have confined an individual to physical isolation. The present review article was conceived to address psychosocial and other issues and their aetiology related to the current pandemic of COVID-19. The elderly age group has most suffered the wrath of SARS-CoV-2, and social isolation as a preventive measure may further induce mental health issues. Animal model studies have demonstrated an inappropriate interacting endogenous neurotransmitter milieu of dopamine, serotonin, glutamate, and opioids, induced by social isolation that could probably lead to observable phenomena of deviant psychosocial behavior. Conflicting and manipulated information related to COVID-19 on social media has also been recognized as a global threat. Psychological stress during the current pandemic in frontline health care workers, migrant workers, children, and adolescents is also a serious concern. Mental health issues in the current situation could also be induced by being quarantined, uncertainty in business, jobs, economy, hampered academic activities, increased screen time on social media, and domestic violence incidences. The gravity of mental health issues associated with the pandemic of COVID-19 should be identified at the earliest. Mental health organization dedicated to current and future pandemics should be established along with Government policies addressing psychological issues to prevent and treat mental health issues need to be developed. Uvodni dio rada daje kratku usporedbu dvaju jezika, hrvatskoga i engleskoga, raspravljajući o leksikografskim postupcima u izradi rječnika sve do odlučivanja na temelju pravila leksikografske odluke. Treće se poglavlje bavi natuknicama s hrvatskim kao polaznim jezikom i obuhvaća razgraničavanje pridjeva s nastavcima -iv, -jiv i -ljiv (npr. jestiv, jediv i jedljiv); razdvojbu pridjeva srednjega roda i priloga (npr. kazneno pravo, kazneno goniti); glagolskih pridjeva, glagolskih priloga i glagolskih imenica (npr. umirući); glagolskih pridjeva trpnih i pridjeva (npr. rođen i rođeni); prijedloga i priloga (npr. poslije); priložnih i prijedložnih sintagami (npr. nàgore, nȁgorē i na gore). Razrađuje se višefunkcionalnost oblika u engleskom jeziku (npr. drive, glagol ili imenica), sintaktička i morfosintaktička uvjetovanost značenja (član, jednina/množina npr. end of a/the/0 day/s/), višerječni izrazi (npr. golden parachute – velika otpremnina), polisemija (npr. stock), homonimi, homografi i homofoni (npr. bank – obala; banka), sinonimija (npr. freedom i liberty), paronimija (npr. proscribe i prescribe), lažni parovi (npr. billion – milijarda), kulturološki otisci u jeziku (npr. Zaključcima u petom poglavlju naglašava se nužnost primjene opisanih postupaka razgraničenja i razdvojbe značenja u dvojezičnoj leksikografiji i u prevođenju, prvenstveno kroz tekstove, korpuse i kontrastivnu analizu.

Salsola ferganica is a natural desert herbaceous plant in the arid area of western and northwestern China. Because of its salt tolerance and drought resistance, it is of great significance in desert afforestation and sand-fixing capacity. There has been much research on the genes involved in plants under desert stresses in recent years. The application of the best internal reference genes for standardization was a critical procedure in analyzing the gene expression under different types. Even so, the reference gene has not been reported in the application of gene expression normalization of S. ferganica. In this study, nine reference genes (TUA-1726, TUA-1760, TUB, GAPDH, ACT, 50S, HSC70, APT, and U-box) in S. ferganica were adopted and analyzed under six different treatments (ABA, heat, cold, NaCl, methyl viologen (MV), and PEG). The applicability of candidate genes was evaluated by statistical software, including geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, and RefFinder, based on their stability values in all the treatments. These results indicated that the simultaneous selection of two stable reference genes would fully standardize the optimization of the normalization research. To verify the feasibility of the above internal reference genes, the CT values of AP2/ERF transcription factor family genes were standardized using the most (ACT) and least (GAPDH) stable reference genes in S. ferganica seedlings under six abiotic stresses. The research showed that HSC70 and U-box were the most appropriate reference genes in ABA stressed samples, and ACT and U-box genes were the optimal references for heat-stressed samples. TUA-1726 and U-box showed the smallest value in gene expression levels of cold treatment. The internal reference groups of the best applicability for the other samples were U-box and ACT under NaCl treatment, ACT and TUA-1726 under MV stress, HSC70 and TUB under PEG treatment, and ACT in all samples. ACT and U-box showed higher stability than the other genes based on the comprehensive stability ranking of RefFinder, as determined by the geometric mean in this study. These results will contribute to later gene expression studies in other closely related species and provide an important foundation for gene expression analysis in S. ferganica.

Measurements in turbulent channel flow with forced oscillations covering a wide range of frequencies (ω+ = 0.03–0.0005) and amplitudes (10–70% of centreline velocity) are presented and discussed. Phase averages of the velocity <u> across the flow, and of the wall shear stress <τ>, as well as the turbulent fluctuations <u′u′> and <t′t′> are obtained with LDA and hot-film techniques. The time-mean quantities, except u’2, are only slightly affected by the imposed oscillations whatever their frequency and amplitude. It is shown that the appropriate similarity parameter for the oscillating quantities ũ and ĩ is the non-dimensional Stokes length l+s (or the frequency ω+ = 2/l+2s). In the regime of high-frequency forcing (l+s < 10) the oscillating flow ũ and ĩ are governed by purely viscous shear forces although the time-mean flow is fully turbulent. This behaviour may be explained by the physical significance of l+s. At lower frequency l+s 10, the oscillating flow is influenced by the turbulence, in particular the amplitude of ĩ increases with respect to the Stokes amplitude and becomes proportional to l+s. The relative amplitude of <u′u′> and <t′t′> decreases sharply with increasing forcing frequency once l+s < 25. This decay of the turbulence response is faster for the wall shear stress. For forcing frequencies such that l+s > 12, <u′u′> and <t′t′> lag behind <u> and <τ> by respectively about 75 and 130 viscous time units. These lags decrease by a factor 2 at higher forcing frequencies. It is shown that in the log layer, the turbulence modulation diffuses away from the wall with a diffusivity equal to that of the time-mean turbulence. The imposed oscillations are felt down to the small scales of the turbulence as may be evidenced from the cyclic modulation of the Taylor microscale, the skewness and the flatness factors of δu′/δt. The modulations of the skewness and the flatness go through a maximum around l+s = 12.

An experiment was conducted in micro-plots filled with sandy loam soil having 14% clay and 0.33% organic carbon to see the responses of halophytic grasses Sporobolus marginatus and Urochondra setulosa collected from the extreme saline-sodic Kachchh plains, Bhuj, Gujarat, India under alkalinity/salinity. Maximum photosynthetic rate was recorded in control treatment. Photosynthetic rate decreased at pH 9.0 + EC 20 dS/m (11.25 and 17.8 μmol CO2/m2/s) in S. marginatus and U. setulosa respectively, along with reduction in stomatal conductance and transpiration rate. In comparison to control, increased accumulation of total soluble sugars and proline may be due to increased osmotic adjustment for both halophytes. Similarly, at mixed stress of pH 9.0 with EC 20 dS/m, the epicuticular wax load increased in both S. marginatus and U. setulosa (24.0 and 40.0 mg/g). A positive correlation of stress was seen with Na+ and Cl‑ content while negative correlation with K+ content. Na+ content increased to about 3-7 fold at salinity level, EC 35 dS/m. Similarly, with treatment of mixed stress of pH 9.0 with saline level EC 20dS/m, 3-6 times increase in Na+ with decrease in K+ was observed in S. marginatus and U. setulosa respectively. These grass species maintained better gas exchange properties with higher osmolytes accumulations and balanced ionic relations under high stress conditions of salinity and alkalinity. These attributes might be providing physiological adaptable mechanisms for growth under salt affected environments.

The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of exercise training on oxidative stress in sickle cell trait carriers. Plasma levels of oxidative stress [advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), protein carbonyl, malondialdehyde (MDA), and nitrotyrosine], antioxidant markers [catalase, glutathione peroxidase (GPX), and superoxide dismutase (SOD)], and nitrite and nitrate (NOx) were assessed at baseline, immediately following a maximal exercise test (Tex), and during recovery (T1h, T2h, T24h) in trained (T: 8 h/wk minimum) and untrained (U: no regular physical activity) sickle cell trait (SCT) carriers or control (CON) subjects (T-SCT, n = 10; U-SCT, n = 8; T-CON, n = 11; and U-CON, n = 11; age: 23.5 ± 2.2 yr). The trained subjects had higher SOD activities (7.6 ± 5.4 vs. 5.2 ± 2.1 U/ml, P = 0.016) and lower levels of AOPP (142 ± 102 vs. 177 ± 102 μM, P = 0.028) and protein carbonyl (82.1 ± 26.0 vs. 107.3 ± 30.6 nm/ml, P = 0.010) than the untrained subjects in response to exercise. In response to exercise, U-SCT had a higher level of AOPP (224 ± 130 vs. 174 ± 121 μM, P = 0.012), nitrotyrosine (127 ± 29.1 vs.70.6 ± 46.6 nM, P = 0.003), and protein carbonyl (114 ± 34.0 vs. 86.9 ± 26.8 nm/ml, P = 0.006) compared with T-SCT. T-SCT had a higher SOD activity (8.50 ± 7.2 vs. 4.30 ± 2.5 U/ml, P = 0.002) and NOx (28.8 ± 11.4 vs. 14.6 ± 7.0 μmol·l−1·min−1, P = 0.003) in response to exercise than U-SCT. Our data indicate that the overall oxidative stress and nitric oxide response is improved in exercise-trained SCT carriers compared with their untrained counterparts. These results suggest that physical activity could be a viable method of controlling the oxidative stress. This could have a beneficial impact because of its involvement in endothelial dysfunction and subsequent vascular impairment in hemoglobin S carriers.

Modifications in stress, measured using Spielberger, et al.'s self-rating State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were assessed on working and rest days for bank employees making regular use of videodisplay terminals. While on work days state-anxiety increased over that on rest days, it did not vary with respect to amount of use of videodisplay terminals. Moreover, state-anxiety significantly covaried with scores on trait-anxiety. These findings suggest that, while increases in state-anxiety can be induced by use of videodisplay terminals, these are not proportional to the amount of use but rather depend on such factors as personality.

The importance of sediment disturbance and water flow to the production of the soft-shell clam, Mya arenaria, was assessed in laboratory flumes by measuring growth rates of clams exposed to a gradation of bed shear stress, free-stream velocity, and frequency and depth of sediment disturbance over a 10-m period. In the absence of sediment disturbance, growth of soft-tissue was directly proportional to both free-stream (U) and shear (U*) velocity (r2 = 0.64 and 0.72, respectively). It was suggested that increased organic seston flux linked higher water flow to higher growth. In all treatments, maximum growth rates were observed with daily disturbance of the top centimeter of sediment. No level of disturbance resulted in growth rates lower than those of undisturbed clams in low flow (U = 0.4 cm∙s−1, U* = 0.1 cm∙s−1). The stimulation of growth under maximum sediment disturbance was removed when U exceeded ~3 cm∙s−1(U* = 0.7 cm∙s−1). An energy budget for M. arenaria indicated that the amount of organic material suspended during sediment disturbance was insufficient to account for the increased growth in clams subjected to high levels of disturbance. It was suggested that the sediment disturbance associated with intense clam harvesting, and changes in local hydrography resulting from coastal development, may be responsible for some of the unexplained growth variation in commercial clam stocks.

Curved channel with trapezoidal cross-section is approximate to the common form in nature fluvial networks and its hydraulic characteristics are considerably complex and variable. Combined with volume of fluid (VOF) method, renormalization group (RNG) k-ε turbulence model was employed to numerically investigate the flow properties in the U-shaped channel with various trapezoidal cross-sections. Analyses were performed from the aspects of the water surface transverse slope in bend apex (WTS-BA), longitudinal velocity, secondary flow, shear stress and turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) under several scenarios, specifically, four types of radius-to-width ratio and seven types of slope coefficient with a constant aspect ratio. The calculated results suggested that the maximums of shear stress and TKE in the bend were observed in the convex bank and the maximal intensities of secondary flow were observed within the range of 60 to 75 degrees for various varieties. As the radius-to-width ratio increased, the maximums of shear stress, TKE and WTS-BA decreased; but increased with increasing slope coefficients. The intensity of secondary flow decreased as slope coefficients increased and the angle of maximum intensity of secondary flow moved to the upstream for the increasing radius-to-width ratios. In addition, a new equation concerning the vertical distribution of longitudinal velocity in trapezoidal cross-sectioned channel was presented.
