This paper aims to present a solubility model of physical blowing agent (PBA) for a kind of commonly used self-expanding polymer on engineering. The self-expanding polymer contains Component A (isocyanate) and Component B (polyhydric alcohol, PBA, water, and catalyst). Component B grout of the polymer, which contains PBA, was heated to measure its temperature and volume variations. Based on the principle of mass conservation and Clapeyron equation, the solubility curve of PBA with respect to temperature was calculated. The solubility curve was then applied to simulate the foaming process. A two-component polymer grout foaming experiment was then carried out to verify the applicability of the measured solubility curve. The simulated changes of temperature and density with respect to time of polymer grout were analyzed and compared with experimental results. The error of both sets of curves is within 5%, which shows a good agreement among them and proves the feasibility of the solubility model. This study provides a relatively complete test and verification process for the solubility model of PBA, which lays a theoretical foundation for both the polymer grouting diffusion mechanism and engineering application.

In this paper, the idea of using polymer adhesive as a damping layer is proposed. An experimental study of two aluminium cantilevered beams has been conducted. One of them presents a plain cantilevered beam, while the second one considers two aluminium beams bonded with a polymer adhesive of different thickness (0,5; 1,2; 1,75; 3,1 and 5 mm). The polymer adhesive considered in the study is a specially designed flexible two-component grout, which has high damping properties. The aim of the study is to determine dynamic parameters, such as natural frequencies and damping ratios of both beams, based on the tests in which analyzed elements have been induced to vibrations by a modal hammer. The behaviour of the beams under different additional weight, installed at the end of elements, has been studied. The results of the study clearly show that the response of the composite aluminium beam with polymer adhesive inside is substantially different then the response of the plain beam. The application of polymer adhesive leads to significant increase in structural damping. Based on the results, the method of using the polymer adhesive can be considered as an effective one in reduction of structural vibrations.

A new method of repairing damaged structures by injecting the cracks with specially designed polymer mass (flexible two-component grout based on polyurethane resin) has been recently proposed. The technique is mainly dedicated to damaged masonries, especially historical structures where minimum intervention is permitted. The cracks are filled with the special injection, forming the flexible joints bonding the disrupted structural elements. The aim of the present paper is to show the results of the experimental study focused on properties of the polymer mass used for the injections. First, the material has been subjected to static compression tests. Then, the polymer mass has been examined dynamically under harmonic excitations with different frequencies and strain levels. The results of the study indicate that the tested polymer mass shows highly non-linear behaviour with relatively low resistance under small displacements and stiffening effect for higher strain levels. Moreover, it is substantially dependent on the strain rate having higher initial deformation modulus for higher strain rate values. Finally, the observed hysteretic behaviour of the material confirms its potential to dissipate the energy during vibrations preventing from further structural damage in the case of dynamic loading.

There is an increasing need for the development of novel technologies for tunnel construction in difficult geological conditions to protect segmental linings from unexpected large deformations. In the context of mechanized tunneling, one method to increase the damage tolerance of tunnel linings in such conditions is the integration of a compressible two-component grout for the annular gap between the segmental linings and the deformable ground. In this regard, expanded polystyrene (EPS) lightweight concrete/mortar has received increasing interest as a potential “candidate material” for the aforementioned application. In particular, the behavior of the EPS lightweight composites can be customized by modifying their pore structure to accommodate deformations due to specific geological conditions such as squeezing rocks. To this end, novel compressible cementitious EPS-based composite materials with high compaction potential have been developed. Specimens prepared from these composites have been subjected to compressive loads with and without lateral confinement. Based on these experimental data a computational model based on the Discrete Element Method (DEM) has been calibrated and validated. The proposed calibration procedure allows for modeling and prognosis of a wide variety of composite materials with a high compaction potential. The calibration procedure is characterized by the identification of physically quantifiable parameters and the use of phenomenological submodels. Model prognoses show excellent agreement with new experimental measurements that were not incorporated in the calibration procedure.

This work aims to analyze the behavior of a new post-grouted micropile setup developed in tropical soil. Its main innovation is the use of high mechanical resistance steel pipes (N80 class) for drilling and as a structural component of the micropiles. The pipes have special manchette valves uniformly spaced to allow neat cement grout injection into the soil. Two instrumented micropiles with 0.3 m diameter (after injection) and lengths of 19.4 m and 21 m were installed at Experimental Site III of the University of Campinas (Unicamp). The geological profile of this site presents a sandy clay surface layer (porous and collapsible) followed by a layer of sandy silt (diabase residual soil). The piles were subjected to compressive slow maintained loading tests and were instrumented along their depth with strain gages. No geotechnical failure was observed during the load test. The maximum load achieved by the MC1 and MC2 micropiles were 2.210 kN and 2.470 kN, respectively. The load test data were extrapolated to estimate the ultimate geotechnical pile capacity. The extrapolated geotechnical failure load was above 2.500 kN for both micropiles and similar to those estimated by the Federal Highway Administration FHWA (2005) load capacity method. It was verified that (1) the pile material undergoes creep under stress above 25 MPa on the transversal section of the pile and (2) the debonding effect during the loading process. The micropiles showed higher values of skin friction compared with other piles installed in the same geological-geotechnical context (tropical soil).

The objective: to investigate the efficacy and safety of terlipressin when it is used as an additional vasopressor in septic shock.Subjects: A single-center, observational, retrospective-prospective study of the efficacy and safety of combined therapy of septic shock with norepinephrine and terlipressin versus monotherapy with norepinephrine was conducted.Results. The use of terlipressin made it possible to reduce the average daily need for noradrenaline in patients with septic shock from 0.68 μg · kg-1 · min-1 in the control group to 0.55 μg · kg-1 · min-1 in the study group (p = 0.015) and reduce the duration of vasopressor support from 8 days [6.0-11.0] to 6 days [5.0-8.0] in the study group (p = 0.023). The use of terlipressin did not reduce the need for mechanical ventilation, but it did reduce the duration of ventilation. The number of days free from mechanical ventilation in patients in the control group was 6.0 [1.0-18.0], in the study group - 16.0 [2.0-22.0], (p = 0.039).Conclusion. The use of terlipressin as a supplement to norepinephrine is an effective and relatively safe treatment for hypotension in refractory septic shock.

ABSTRACT Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is frequently carried in the gastrointestinal or genitourinary tract as a commensal organism, yet it has the potential to cause life-threatening infection in newborn infants, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic illness. Regulation of virulence factor expression may affect whether GBS behaves as an asymptomatic colonizer or an invasive pathogen, but little is known about how such factors are controlled in GBS. We now report the characterization of a GBS locus that encodes a two-component regulatory system similar to CsrRS (or CovRS) in Streptococcus pyogenes. Inactivation of csrR, encoding the putative response regulator, in two unrelated wild-type strains of GBS resulted in a marked increase in production of beta-hemolysin/cytolysin and a striking decrease in production of CAMP factor, an unrelated cytolytic toxin. Quantitative RNA hybridization experiments revealed that these two phenotypes were associated with a marked increase and decrease in expression of the corresponding genes, cylE and cfb, respectively. The CsrR mutant strains also displayed increased expression of scpB encoding C5a peptidase. Similar, but less marked, changes in gene expression were observed in CsrS (putative sensor component) mutants, evidence that CsrR and CsrS constitute a functional two-component system. Experimental infection studies in mice demonstrated reduced virulence of both CsrR and CsrS mutant strains relative to the wild type. Together, these results indicate that CsrRS regulates expression of multiple GBS virulence determinants and is likely to play an important role in GBS pathogenesis.

The model considered is that of a single component scalar field with φ4 self interaction coupled, via Yukawa coupling, to a fermion in flat four-dimensional space. The RG flow on the two-dimensional space of couplings, [Formula: see text], is shown to be derivable from a potential to sixth order in the couplings, which requires two-loop calculations of the β-functions. The identification of a potential requires the introduction of a metric on [Formula: see text] and it is shown that the metric defined by Zamolodchikov, in terms of two-point correlation functions of composite operators, gives potential flow to this order.

Most systems allow the construction of a semi-Markov model. However, during the operation of the system, full information contained in the state encoding is not always available, but it is possible to obtain some signal (information). Tasks arise to assess the consistency of the model with the received data (signals), to refine the model and its parameters. Such parameters can be characteristics of random values characterizing system operation, time reserve value, etc. The theory of hidden Markov models allows solving these problems. In order to move from a semi-Markov model of the system to its hidden Markov model, it is proposed to first the semi-Markov model merge using a stationary phase merging algorithm. In this paper, on the basis of the semi-Markov model with a common phase state space of a two-component system with a group instantly replenished timereserve, we construct a hidden Markov model of a two-component system with a group instantly replenished time reserve. It is used to evaluate the characteristics and predict the states of the system in question based on the received vector of signals. The influence of the time reserve value on the probability of occurrence of the obtained vector of signals is shown.

We first derive without recourse to the Dirac equation the two-component Majorana equation with a mass term by a direct linearization of the relativistic dispersion relation of a massive particle. Thereby, we make only use of the complex conjugation operator and the Pauli spin matrices, corresponding to the irreducible representation of the Lorentz group. Then we derive the complex two-component eigenfunctions of the Majorana equation and the related quantum fields in a concise way, by exploiting the so-called chirality conjugation operator that involves the spin-flip operator. Subsequently, the four-component spinor solutions of the real Majorana equation are derived, and their intrinsic relations with the spinors of the complex two-component version of the Majorana equation are revealed and discussed extensively.

Sarcopenia is a condition which characterized by loss of muscle mass, muscle strength and muscle function due to aging. Some study found that sarcopenia prevalence was more common in men than women. This study aims to determine the comparison of sarcopenia diagnostic component between two group ages in men by observing and comparing muscle mass, handgrip strength and usual gait speed according to Asian Working Group on Sarcopenia (AWGS) diagnostic criteria that analyzed by Independent Sample T Test. The sample size with consecutive sampling technique was 149 mens which divided into two groups based on ages of elderly over 60 years (n = 73) and young adult between 18-40 years (n = 76). From the independent sample t test results, there was significant difference of muscle mass mean, handgrip strength mean and gait speed mean between elderly group and young adult group by 2.467 (SD ± 0.1454) kg/m2 (t(98.350) = -16.969; p = 0.000), 10.455 (SD ± 1.0983) kg (t(147) = -9.519; p = 0.000) and 0.4753 (SD ± 0.2808) m/s (t(11.636) = -16.747; p = 0.000) which means along with increasing age, sarcopenia diagnostic components value, i.e. muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical performance will also decrease. Based on self-consistent field (SCF) atomic mean-field (amf) quantities, we present two simple yet computationally efficient and numerically accurate matrix-algebraic approaches to correct both scalar-relativistic and spin–orbit two-electron picture-change effects (PCEs) arising within an exact two-component (X2C) Hamiltonian framework. Both approaches, dubbed amfX2C and e(xtended)amfX2C, allow us to uniquely tailor PCE corrections to mean-field models, viz. Hartree–Fock or Kohn–Sham DFT, in the latter case also avoiding the need for a point-wise calculation of exchange–correlation PCE corrections. We assess the numerical performance of these PCE correction models on spinor energies of group 18 (closed-shell) and group 16 (open-shell) diatomic molecules, achieving a consistent [Formula: see text] Hartree accuracy compared to reference four-component data. Additional tests include SCF calculations of molecular properties such as absolute contact density and contact density shifts in copernicium fluoride compounds ([Formula: see text], n = 2,4,6), as well as equation-of-motion coupled-cluster calculations of x-ray core-ionization energies of [Formula: see text]- and [Formula: see text]-containing molecules, where we observe an excellent agreement with reference data. To conclude, we are confident that our (e)amfX2C PCE correction models constitute a fundamental milestone toward a universal and reliable relativistic two-component quantum-chemical approach, maintaining the accuracy of the parent four-component one at a fraction of its computational cost.

This paper discusses an algorithmic way of constructing integrable evolution equations based on Lie algebraic structure. We derive, in a pedagogical style, a large class of two-component peakon type dual systems from their two-component soliton equations counter part. We study the essential aspects of Hamiltonian flows on coadjoint orbits of the centrally extended semidirect product group [Formula: see text] to give a systematic derivation of the dual counter parts of various two-component of integrable systems, viz., the dispersive water wave equation, the Kaup–Boussinesq system and the Broer–Kaup system, using moment of inertia operators method and the (frozen) Lie–Poisson structure. This paper essentially gives Lie algebraic explanation of Olver–Rosenau's paper [31].

ABSTRACTThe CpxAR two-component signal transduction system inEscherichia coliand other pathogens senses diverse envelope stresses and promotes the transcription of a variety of genes that remedy these stresses. An important member of the CpxAR regulon iscpxP. The CpxA-dependent transcription ofcpxPhas been linked to stresses such as misfolded proteins and alkaline pH. It also has been proposed that acetyl phosphate, the intermediate of the phosphotransacetylase (Pta)-acetate kinase (AckA) pathway, can activate the transcription ofcpxPin a CpxA-independent manner by donating its phosphoryl group to CpxR. We tested this hypothesis by measuring the transcription ofcpxPusing mutants with mutations in the CpxAR pathway, mutants with mutations in the Pta-AckA pathway, and mutants with a combination of both types of mutations. From this epistasis analysis, we learned that CpxR integrates diverse stimuli. The stimuli that originate in the envelope depend on CpxA, while those associated with growth and central metabolism depend on the Pta-AckA pathway. While CpxR could receive a phosphoryl group from acetyl phosphate, this global signal was not the primary trigger for CpxR activation associated with the Pta-AckA pathway. On the strength of these results, we contend that the interactions between central metabolism and signal transduction can be quite complex and that successful investigations of such interactions must include a complete epistatic analysis.

The only effective way to treat pterygium is to perform surgical intervention in various ways (without replacing the defect of the conjunctiva and replacing the defect with allogeneic or autologous tissues). One of the most effective methods is considered to be the removal of the pterygium with defect plasty with an amniotic membrane. The issue of choosing the fixation of the amniotic membrane is topical. The use of a suture fixation method is considered the gold standard, but this method increases the duration of the operation, and is also accompanied by discomfort for the patient in the postoperative period. The use of an adhesive fixation method using autologous fibrin adhesives is considered promising. Purpose of the study: to conduct a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of surgical treatment of pterygium using a two-component autofibrin glue and sutures for fixing the amniotic membrane. Material and methods. The study included 15 patients. All patients were divided into 2 groups depending on the method of fixing the amniotic membrane: the 1st group was the main group, where the amniotic membrane was fixed with a two-component autofibrin glue, the 2nd group was the control group, where the amniotic membrane was fixed with sutures. All patients underwent biomicroscopy and optical coherence tomography of the anterior segment to determine the stage of pterygium. Before surgical treatment, tear production was assessed using the Schirmer test. The study groups compared the time spent on the operation. After the surgical intervention, the control periods were followed by photo registration, optical coherence tomography of the anterior segment, as well as an assessment of the presence of the following "symptoms" in the patient: pain, sensation of a foreign body, itching, lacrimation, assessed in points on a visual analogue scale. After 6 months, the presence of pterygium recurrence in the study groups was assessed. Statistical analysis was carried out using the StatTech v. 2.8.8. Results. As a result of evaluating the indicator "Duration of surgery" depending on the study group, we found statistically significant differences (p = 0.032). When assessing the "Pain" indicator, statistically significant differences were detected on the 1st (p = 0.007), 3rd (p = 0.03) and 7th days (p = 0.047) after the operation. When assessing the indicators of the presence of "Foreign body sensation" and "Itching", statistically significant differences between the groups were detected only on the 1st day after the operation (p = 0.04 and p = 0.017, respectively), in the remaining control periods, differences between the groups were revealed did not have. When analyzing the indicator of "Lacrimation", no statistically significant differences between the studied groups were revealed for all control periods of the study. No recurrence of pterygium was recorded in any of the cases 6 months after the surgical interventions. Conclusion. Fixation of the amniotic membrane with the help of the developed two-component autofibrin glue during the surgical treatment of pterygium provides not only a reduction in the operation time, but also a more comfortable postoperative period. ABSTRACT Thermoanaerobacter tengcongensis could utilize galactose as a carbon source via the enzymes encoded by a novel gal operon, whose regulation mechanism has yet to be elucidated. We propose here that the gal operon in T. tengcongensis is regulated through a HisK:GalR two-component system. By using radioactive isotope assay and genetic analysis, we found that the kinase of this system, HisK, is phosphorylated by ATP, and the regulator, GalR, accepts a phosphoryl group during phosphorelay, in which the phosphoryl group at HisK-His-259 is transferred to GalR-Asp-56. Two-dimensional electrophoresis, followed by Western blotting, revealed that phosphorylation status of GalR is uniquely dependent on the galactose stimulus in vivo. Furthermore, DNA pulldown assays demonstrated that the phosphorylated GalR prefers binding to the operator DNA O2 , whereas the unphosphorylated GalR to O1 . A model of HisK:GalR is proposed to explain how galactose mediates the expression of the gal operon in T. tengcongensis.
