In recent decades, temporary work has taken on considerable proportions and is emblematic of the changes taking place in the world of work in France. As a "precarious" job, it leads to a disintegration of career paths and marks the future of temporary workers by a great deal of uncertainty. In an environment that now promotes individualism, where everyone is responsible for managing the hazards of their career path, precarious employment raises the question of the relationship that individuals maintain with their past, their current situation and their future. In this thesis, this report is understood by the concept of time perspectives. The first study (using questionnaires) of this research shows that a high level of precariousness decreases the future time extension of temporary workers and that this link is moderated by the satisfaction of the subjects with the social support they receive. The second study (using semidirected interviews) shows that the different aspects of precariousness peculiar to temporary workers influence their perceptions of their past, their present and their future according to several dimensions of the time perspectives, namely: orientation, extension, density, sharpness, realism, attitude and inter-register coherence. This second study also shows the effect of social relations (within the private sphere, the user company and the temporary employment agency) on these time dimensions. Finally, the third study (using questionnaires) defines five dimensions of precariousness relating to temporary work (the precariousness of living conditions, the precariousness of the career path, the precariousness of working conditions, the characteristics of the employment contract and the personal experience of temporary work) and shows an effect of these dimensions on the orientation and the attitude for the three time registers. This study also shows an effect of the industrial relations (within the user company and the temporary employment agency) and of the representation of the participants on these two dimensions of the time perspective. These three studies allow us to support a psychosocial approach of time perspectives by articulating inter-individual, positional and ideological variables in the study of these

The effects of temporal factors on worker's behavior are analyzed for three classes of temporal conditions : temporal requirements of the task (machine-paced work, time sharing), variability of human functionning (circadian rythmicity), interactions between time of work and off-the-job life (especially concerning shiftwork). Worker's responses to time requirements implies coordination of analyses at three levels : precise identification of situation's parameters for temporal aspects but also for psychological functions ; evaluation of importance of performance as regard time criteria and cost associated to success ; strategies of regulation used by the subject according to the balance between risks of failure and workload. Furthermore analysis of the activity under time pressure must be conducted in the frame work of the global system including work and out-of-work activities. Also social meaning of work needs effective coordination between analysis of worker behaviorin the line of man-machine system-and analysis of worker motivation concerning the activity under temporal constraints. Systematic articulation of the frameworks of ergonomics and social psychology is necessary for the progress of research on workers' response to temporal factors in work situation

Entry into working life for youth is a major social and economic problem, which has psychological repercussions on work-motivation and on the construct of occupational identity. Based on a longitudinal study of 1018 pupils before and one and half years after they obtained the diploma "bep" (brevet d'etudes professionnelles) in administration studies, we analysed the evolution of representations of work and of the self-image which form the occupational identity. Besides already recognized socio-cultural determinism, we find an interaction between the job-situation and what we call a psychological dimension of employability, composed of representations of work and of the self-image which the individual constructs from his experiences. We hence found that expectations of work-conditions and personal work involvement, indentical at the end of schooling for the "bep" diploma, thereafter vary in fonction of the job-situation. The most important result, however concerns self-esteem which not only increases withe status-quality of the job obtained but was actually significantly different at the end of schooling according to the future jobsituation. The young who had least self-confidence are those who successded least, i. E. They are frequently the unemployed or those precarious

The investigation of work and non-work activities' representations is central in view of the qualitative, quantitative and structural transformations occurring in the modern human being's life. The results indicate (1) that the relations between work and non-work structures are multi-dimensional, (2) and that different processes of causality between work and non-work activities exist in the same life space and are operating at different levels of application. The cultural appurtenance influences more the representation of non-work, whereas the appurtenance to an occupational and social class influences more the representation of work

Bolstered by its productive, normative and socialising roots, the professional world reveals, nevertheless, a fragility in the inter-relational dynamic on which it is based. It is only recently that the idea of the victim has appeared in the professional vocabulary. The victim is the result of the confrontation between a specific adverse event and an ideological and emotional construct. Our research is therefore a desire to highlight these "ordinary" victims, symbols of individual suffering, but with a result that is just as much colective. Their look stamped with emotion, offers special insight into violent experiences and constitutes a way of understanding ruptures in mental equilibrium. This process of subjectivisation, by which the victim cognitively reconstructs the situation, models their psycho-physiological reaction. Our work on this topic tends to suggest than the nature of victimisation, chronic versus acute, intentional versus instrumental, brutal and cutting versus latent and insidious, configures the consequences engendered by favouring a level of differential tolerance

Through both a cross-sectional and a longitudinal approache, the aim of this research is to yield psychosocial processes of activities transformation among young people awaiting employment and or involved in professinal precarious situations. These transformations are seized in vulnerability terms under their possible evolutions in time and refered to the system of activities model. In the cross-sectional study results show that young people aren't similary vulnerable to awaiting employment situation. The part played by significations and valuations given by subjects to their situation on psychological effects (or psychological well-being) is examined. The longitudinal approach is concerned with the psychological well-being evolutions in regard with significations and valuations expressed by young people in front of the modifications occured in their personal, social and professional situation between the two periods of the research. Finely, we suggest in conclusion how the contribution of the thesis could be used to improve training and helping practices of young people in precarious situation

This thesis focuses on job satisfaction processes and assessment. To date, imprecision persist in the job satisfaction assessment as well as in the understanding of the job satisfaction processes. Our aim is to analyse variations between assessment tools in order to question the validity of the job satisfaction models on which these tools are based. It follows a double issue. The first concerns the relation between global and facets satisfaction and the way in which facets satisfactions rise in a global attitude. We focused on composite scales (where the global level of satisfaction is inferred from the facets scores) putting into light their lack of validity. We tested two explanatory factors : the lack of facets exhaustiveness and weighting. These factors are not enough to explain the difficulty to predict global satisfaction from facets scores. Indeed, the complementary analyses we carried out highlight the existence of a moderator in the facets-global satisfaction relation. The second issue concerns the relation between satisfaction and person-job fit. We undertook to specify up to what point job satisfaction could be regarded as resulting from the fit between an individual and his environment. We showed thet the low empirical links observed in previous studies did not reflect really the satisfaction-fit relation but arise from operationalization choices, and highlighted that if indirect scales of fit did not make it possible to strongly predict job staisfaction it was possible when using a perceived fit scale on which individuals directly declare up to what point they consider their job as fulfilling their expectation
Morel-Jayle, Florence. "Gestion psychique du chômage : le deuil d'une relation exclusive au travail." Lyon 2, 2000. http://theses.univ-lyon2.fr/documents/lyon2/2000/morel_f.
Psychic suffering and psychic disorganisation frequently observed in the case of long-term unemployed people make it possible to identify by default the functions usually kept untold by the occupational activity for the person's psychological stability. They also lead to questioning oneself about the possibility of reconstructing a psychological stability in the absence of the anaclitic object which is essential for the building and the maintenance of ego-related processes, whether these processes are defensive, narcissistic or elaborative. This reconstruction is analysed, using the psychoanalytic theoretical corpus, as being a work of mourning made particularly difficult by the convergence of unfavourable conditions: - conditions specific to the nature of the object-work relationship, - conditions inherent in the environmental support and in the form of the Ego of an unemployed person. The study mainly insists on the exclusive nature of the relationship to the occupational activity ; this exclusiveness results from the centralisation of work in our society and from its marks on our socialisation processes. It moreover highlights the strengthening of the exclusiveness through integration mechanisms which, by idealising employment, place the unemployed in the heart of paradoxical constraints opposing to the work of mourning. It finally analyses the psychological solutions found in order to get over the crisis in spite of this unfavourable context. Unemployment then appears as an occasion for psychic maturation : the subject succeeds in transferring the functions earlier held by the object-work to new activities and, thanks to this transfer, has a greater mobility in relation to the anaclitic objects. The modelization herein described makes it possible to question oneself about the support measures meant for the long-term unemployed people and which are in favour of this evolution
Jorda, Henri. "Le processus de normalisation du travail : une histoire de la conformité de l'homme au travail." Paris 10, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA100011.
This research is interested in the attitudes of mind about man and world which ground the working organization principles. The first part recounts the beginnings of working rationalization (seventeenth and eighteenth centuries), when learning takes a normative dimension. The firm gradualy becomes a closed and supervised place, where the working norms are defined by engineers according to mechanical science. The normalizing process, based on mechanist reasoning, constrains bodies to realize a conformity according to which men's utility is based on physical resistance. The process increases when the firm is thought like a whole where men and machines are exactly adjusted. The second part analyses the learning changes in the twentieth-century. Henceforth, the rationalization has an action upon mental activities: the mind becomes a deductive machine processing informations. The human conformity is based on mental representations adjusting to observed reality. The firm becomes an open and complex system adapting itself to the environment. At that time, the normalizing process tries to suppress potential obstacles to flows of information: it has an effect upon individual representations. The autonomy of man at work reveals the conformity of his representations. The man becomes, at work, the vector of normalizing process

This research focuses on the psychological function of the collective of work in front of professionnal stress process. It uses a methodological frame called crosses self-confrontation, which let the worker to describe his activity in face of a researcher, then a colleague. These dialogues proves the existence of an over-adressee, wich we call the transpersonnal dimension of work activity. This research is led next to agents of commercial service of the railway french company. This work aims at improving an approach of the collective in purpose to develop the interventions, theories of stress and psychopathology of work one another

Suicide is a multifactorial act, resulting from a number of risk factors over the life trajectory, within different domains of life and often have started during childhood. Representing 10500 deaths per year in France, and about 220 000 suicide attempts, suicide is a major public health problem (INSERM). Academic works in suicidology, report mental disorders as the most robust risk factor. Others are important risk factors, as personality traits and accumulation of difficulties in different life spheres. Several researchers have recently been interested in the link between suicide and work environment. Scientific literature is extensive concerning links between mental health and work, nevertheless rigorous researches on links between suicide and work environment are still needed, especially in France, where results from studies are sometimes incoherent with interpretations. The objective of the thesis is to explore differences observed between opinions and scientific conclusions in regards to the link between suicide and work environment. We formulated two research questions : can a negative work environment have a negative influence on mental health? Are work environment and/or work related-situations associated with a danger for mental health ? Three studies including two exploratory studies were conducted and based on semi-directive interviews. The first exploratory study consisted in an analysis of 23 salaries' discourses, from an industrial organization concerned by suicides and suicide attempts since 2010. The second exploratory study consisted in an analysis of 23 salaries' discourses, from a services organization, who were touched by two suicides in 2012. A third comparative study was conducted on the basis of semi-directive interviews, according to a psychological autopsy and life calendar methods. Semi-structured interview exploring love, family and professional spheres of life, past suicide attempts and mental health problems among 84 participants. A first group, 42 close relatives of people deceased by suicide, recounted the lives of the deceased person who was in employment at the time of death, was compared to a second group of 42 living participants, who also were in employment at the time of the study. Quantitatively (by ALCESTE) and qualitatively analyzed, data from both exploratory studies highlight common points shared by workers: a succession of reorganizations not well accepted, a high and growing workload, more and more urgencies interfering with daily- workload, the perceptions that the quality of their work is the best they could offer, the lack of autoncwiy, the lack of financial and symbolic gratitude, the perceptions of organisational injustice, a negative work climate (interpersonal conflicts, aggressions, threats, maybe moral harassment), the presence of work-family conflict, and the increase in psychological strain. Moreover, in the second study, physical or social isolations are described as associated with feelings of loneliness. Results of the comparative study, showed that significantly more mental health axis 1 disorders (especially mood and substances disorders) and an axis II disorder (especially Cluster C) are observed among participants deceased by suicide. As well, comorbidity and past suicide attempts are significantly more prevalent among participants deceased by suicide. No differences were observed between groups, concerning adversities in love relationships, family relations, social interactions and academic domain. However, living participants had significantly more adversities in professional domain over the life course and during the last five years. Conclusion According to our results, a work environment could have a negative impact on mental health. Some characteristics and work-related situations revealed in the two exploratory studies could be associated to a negative impact on mental health and psychological well-being. Nevertheless, concerning suicidal risk precisely, the comparative study shows that work adversities do not represent a robust or direct risk factor for suicide, but psychiatric disorders are. Furthermore, an analysis is proposed in conclusion to explore possible directions for a suicide prevention program in a work-related environment
Roques, Olivier. "Les réactions des salariés aux transitions de carrière : une approche en termes de stress au travail." Aix-Marseille 3, 1999. http://www.theses.fr/1999AIX32018.
This research explains the reactions of individuals during a career transition using an analysis in terms of stress at work. The research model involves variables in the field of career management and stress. Seven hypothesis explain the influence of the magnitude of the transition on strain indicators and make clear the moderator role of some variables. The methodology is based on on a quantitative study (144 teachers and 116 regular soldiers) then on a qualitative study (19 interviews with teachers and 12 with regular soldiers). The main result of the quantitative study shows the link between the magnitude of a career transition and strain indicators. On the one hand, control of career transition, length of service, feeling of being in the "performance" career stage, or social support minimise the effect of the magnitude of career transition on some indicators of strain. On the other hand, for people who think they are in the withdrawal career stage the effect of the magnitude of career transition on some indicators of strain is greater. Some other results complete an understanding of these relations. The qualitative study explain in further detail the role of the person's control over career transition and the role of social support. Our results show the role of cognitive appraisals and career contracts. The caracteristics of the transition influence coping strategies, control and social support. The lack of time increases the effects of the magnitude of the transition. The limits are due to the size of the samples and to the specificity of populations that do not meet the criteria of external validity. Further researchs can try to remedy these limits or to go deeper in cognitive and affective phenomena involved in the transition appraisal. The analysis of the role of time and of contextual caracteristics are another direction for research
Clety, Henry. "Dynamique des représentations et efficacité dans les systèmes "équipe de travail"." Lille 3, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009LIL30041.
The study of the concept of working team is recent in psychology, but also rich and polymorphic. The analysis of the knowledge established on this concept to a re-articulation of the notions, which are associated with him, and in an epistemological and paradigmatically fundamental reflection on the contribution of the cybernetic and the systemic, in the study of the teamwork. The first approach of reflection ends in the formulation of a model of analysis, which repositions the notions of efficiency and dynamics of team with regard to the new notion of system of representations of the members of team. From then on, the general problem concerns the distances and the dynamics of the team and its efficacy. Three researches here presented allow to confirm the existence of his link, in particular under the angle of the relation between the members and their manager. So, as far as their representations of the system converges on and are close, it establishes an observation positively associated with the dynamics of their team and with its efficiency. This observation is more significant from the point of view of the dynamics then of the efficacy. Beyond the significant theoretical contributions, these works allow to criticize the epistemological and methodological, composed frame and to advance new perspectives of researches on the teamwork. Besides, an opening in the praxis is proposed in final exercice

Pezet, Valérie. "Le stress au travail : des déclarations à l'observation des comportements (le syndrome de Burnout chez les travailleurs sociaux)." Paris 10, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA100037.
This research is about mental health (or psychological well-being) at work. The cognitive approach of stress, formulated by lazarus and folkman (1984), and the numerous studies it has generated, has set up the scientific reference framework. The burnout - syndrome of reaction to stress in helping professions - is more specially discussed. The model of burnout, proposed by maslach and jackson (1981), define the phenomena through the three following components : feelings of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization of the relations with the "recipients" or "clients", and feeling of reduced personal accomplishment at work. Regarding present discussions about the relevance of this model, and the concept of burnout itself, (garden, 1987; shirom, 1989;. . . ), the aim of this research is to verify if, according to the three-dimensional model of burnout, a relation exists between the burnout perceived and self-reported by subjects, and their behaviors in interaction with theirs "clients". Sixteen social workers, carrying on their profession under judicial mandate, have been observed sytematically, during 75 interviews with families in trouble. Correlations between observed data and the subjective state of burnout, perceived and self-reportel, show a link between the emotional exhaustion dimension of burnout and directing behaviors. But, on the contrary, the other behavioral variables collected are not linked to perceived burnout. The results from this research emphasize on the complexe relations between subjective state of stress (or burnout), self-reported by the individuals, and their behaviors at work, systematically observed by a third person. At the end of this research, according to its limits and the questions that it lets in suspense, new persectives of work are proposed

This research takes place in the French social context of the impressing growth of trainings, built on the pattern of apprenticeship, part time at school and part-time working. Its aim was to analyse the effects of such a training on identity and transition of young people from 18 to 25. More specially, we focused on a comparison of two populations of students of Iut (Institut Universitaire Technologique), in sale, following normal training (mainly at school with 10 weeks at work) or apprenticeship (part time at work and at school). The research has two parts. The first is a summary of several psychosociological theoretical approaches concerning transition from school to work, socialisation and identity of young people as well as representations and attitudes upon work and professional life we choose two ways of collecting data. In a first time, we had a qualitative approach: 50 young students were interviewed. After, nearly 350 students answered to a questionnary. The second part concerns the results of the research. We can see in analysing these results that apprenticeship plays an important role on construction of professional identity of the young people but a lot of other factors must be taken into account to understand the changes of identity during this period of transition from school to work: conceptions of work, vocational choices, ideal self, as well as self esteem and self monitoring. We underlined in conclusion two different ways of building professional identity. The experimentation pattern is linked to apprenticeship and the identification pattern is linked to traditional training

The problem studied globaly is that of the inconscious stakes of the cathexis of occupational work and, more specifically, that of intrapsychological process wich enable the subject to support, indeed make satisfying, the constraints and agressions of work against him. The existence of protective masochist process hypothesis can explain the subject ability to make bearable the internal destructivity reactivated by its relations with the work reality. The first part specifies the occupational work's place in S. Freud's work, in his intrapsychological life and in four of his clinical cases. The occupational work appears there very implicated in the stakes of father complex and masochism position. The second part lays the theorical basis of protective masochism : fusion of instincts, narcissistic regression and submission relation appear there as the essential of protective masochism process. The third part searches these protective masochist processes in the reality of cathexis occupational work. Fourteen clinical interviews and witnesses published frame the study material. The connexion with the task, the professional relations, the functions and the work social significances are analysed. These analysis of every reality's part of occupational work permit to locate the satisfying effects, then the suffering it causes and the protective masochist processes wich protect the subject of these sufferings

The first part of the thesis explains the social pictures of poverty and fives a definition of the mew poverty based on the historical, sociological, economical and anthropological studies about the traditionnal poverty. The second part is a longitudinal study of 349 life stories about people belonging to the new poverty and the traditional poverty, and a study on 105 recipients from the new poverty. These studies are made we the methods used in social psychology (interviews, factorial analysis tests). This thesis shows how psycho-social capacities are requisite to fight against the social exclusion, together with getting of the world of working - these capacities can be observed in attitudes, attributions and the jecling of self esteem

This study deals with the painfulness of work and focuses on psychic painfulness. It aims at distinguishing the psychic painfulness of the physical dimension in any sector of activity and understanding its articulation with stress and burnout in order to better understand its issues. Thus, 39 employees of an agro-alimentary industry and 32 employees of a company of service delivery participated in this study. The analyses diagnosed the presence of psychic painfulness in both sectors of activity and the results show that it constitutes one of the predictors of stress and burnout. This painfulness, distinct from the physical painfulness, is characterized at the agro-alimentary company P by indirect factors linked to the activity, such as the weight of the responsibility relating to the position held, the inexperience in a workstation, the fear of making a mistake that can cause heavy consequence for the company and the hyper-alertness imposed by the rhythm of the machine; and to the professional consular chamber A, it is characterized by a high pressure of work related to last-minute work, to the constraints of very short deadlines, to the work in the urgency, to considerable workload linked to the regular addition of files, to a highly directive management style, to an inappropriate work organization and to the lack of recognition of the work of certain socio-professional categories by the hierarchy. Furthermore, the job satisfaction and the meaning of work participate in the inter-individual variability of the psychic painfulness

The aim of this research is to approach the appraisal processes of the managerial qualitative job performance (regarding professionnals who are directly in charge of a job shift). A questionnaire for measuring self appraisals of job quality has been developped and validated (two samples covering 178 subjects). The factorial validity yields a general factor of perceived job quality and five specific components owing to different aspects of this dimension (quality of shilft productions, decisions, communication, administration, and general ability). A study was led in order to state the effects of different situationnally variables (organizational size, position level, shift size, autonomy level, patterns of management) and individual characteristics (job satisfaction, job involvement, selfesteem, locus of control) in prediction of self-evaluation of qualitative performances (n = 224 subjects). A structural modeling analysis (with the use of lisrel for the study of causal relationships between variables) was led. This yields the strong influence of individual characteristics as well as moderator effects of situationnal variables on self-evaluations of job quality

The framework of this research is the long-lasting interpersonal conflict resolution in the workplace and out of the workplace. The main goal is to compare the effects of the intention to harm, the cancellation of consequences, the apologies, the social proximity, the others'attitude, and the personality on the willingness to forgive, during physical aggressions and psychological aggressions, in the workplace and out of the workplace. The three studies were conducted with the Functional Theory of Cognition (Anderson, 1996). The results have shown that (a) the cancellation of consequences has a more important effect during a psychological aggression, (b) the intention to harm and the important effect during a physical aggression, (c) the schema of forgiveness is an additive nature in all situations and all types of agression and, (d) the agreableness and the neuroticism have a general effect of the propenstity to forgive

The effects of aging on working memory capacity and functioning are presented as well. Four experiments are described. All for them require linguistic processing and concurrent mnemonic load, so that both functions -processing and storage- of working memory are involved. A paradigm of new word production is used in the first experiment, while a paradigm of incongruous sentence detection is used in the other three. Results reveal a decline in older subjects' cognitive resources, so that they are compelled to cope differently with the simultaneous requirements of the task: in the processing storage trade-off, they sacrifice concurrent mnemonic load in order to perform the processing task, in which they meet specific difficulties as regards their young counterparts. In the speed accuracy trade off, they tend to be more cautious, and favour accuracy to the detriment of speed

The PhD focuses on the sociological analysis of the role of emotions in the production and organization of work processes. Through a diachronic analysis of the place accorded to emotional experience in varied organizational theories, it points out the relevance of a sociopsychological approach. This perspective conducts to distinguish between emotional experience and emotional phenomenon, and to characterize the organisation as a "finite province of meaning" (A. Schütz) in the "Lebenswelt". A qualitative observation of a territorial administration's social work service shows that emotional experience constitutes a material for the co-construction of organizational rationality by the social workers. This study underlines the political dimension of the conflict opposing a work organization which affects the social workers and their organizational work in order to preserve the sense of their professional practices

A policy-capturing procedure was used to study the determinants of occupational preferences in spanish students aged 14-15. In accordance with gottfredson's theory, the femininity-masculinity aspect was found to be the best predictor of preferences for girls. Two other good predictors for girls were free time and prestige. The boys differed from the girls chiefly in that the importance of femininity-masculinity was weak as compared to prestige or free time. In addition, the ses variable emerged as a strong moderator of the relation between prestige and preferences

The thesis proposes to examine, through using projective tests analysed from a psychoanalytic perspective, the psychic functioning of a cohort of 36 children between the ages of 6 and 12 diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), according to DSM IV criteria, and review this after two years of medical and / or psychotherapeutic treatment in the framework of a multidisciplinary study. The object of study is outlined using a historic and phenomenological reading of studies on the unstable child. The scientific context is outlined using various aspects of research in neuroscience and neuro-psychology. The issues associated with prescribing psycho stimulants are addressed. These theoretical notions are then put into perspective with transcultural studies. A study of five contemporary psychoanalytic models concerning hyperactivity is applied to understanding the theoretical-clinical issues raised. The points of convergence and disagreement between these different approaches are put forward, along with the theoretical insights gained from considering these differences and similarities. Hypotheses regarding the psychic functioning of children are then explained using a meta-psychological perspective before being applied to the clinical material collected. The interpretation of results makes it possible to understand certain aspects of the psychic functioning of children diagnosed with ADHD from various perspectives; the processing of arousal; the functioning of the ego; anxiety and defense mechanisms. Finally the longitudinal follow-up is considered from two clinical studies which seek to consider the significance of the potential shifts in personality

OBJECTIVE: To determine if participants exposed to the combined effect of effort-reward imbalance (ERI) and weight, have blood pressure (BP) means higher than unexposed participants. METHODS: A prospective cohort study composed of 1684 white-collar works. Ambulatory BP was measured every 15 minutes during a work day. Participant’s height, weight and ERI were measured using validated methods. RESULTS: Female and male workers with overweight, who experienced an increase in their exposure to ERI, presented systolic BP means of 2 to 4 mm Hg higher than unexposed women and men. There was no observed association between repeated exposure to ERI and BP. CONCLUSION: This study partially suggests that exposure to combined effect of ERI and overweight were associated with significant increases in BP. Additional studies are needed to evaluate the combined effect of job strain and weight on BP.

The aim of this research is to study the consequences of a specific social context, the 3x8 alternating shiftwork, on the cognitive processes of the subject, more particularly on attentional processes with memory test. After having listed the data of the literature on the consequences of alternating shiftwork on social and familial life, then on physical and psychic health of the worker. This complaint is corroborated by a number of psychological and physiological data and is expressed by sleepiness. The purpose of this research is to show that visible attentional falls have consequences on the cognitive competence. The results have shawn that there were attentional decreases (. . . )

Nowadays conceding that affectivity is a part of the formation of the knowledge is flot a question to debate, neither for psychology nor for psychoanalysis or neurosciences. Even so, the status of affectivity remains a matter of controversy. The stake of the thesis was to underline the subjective experience of the body in the work of thought, explored through a study of several epileptic patients cases. The hypothesis which were debated put in light the role of the motor function as a part of the propositions referred to the Freudian rnetapsychology, but also to psychosomatic and neuroscientific theories on the thought. The engagement of the body in the work of thought contributes to reveal the existence of a subjective body, an erotic body, which is distinct from the biological body. The principal achievements of the thesis are theoretical, but bring up as well practical questions to examine in the future, with regard to the technical progresses ofthe therapeutics of epilepsy
Lepine, Raphaëlle. "Mémoire de travail et fonctionnement cognitif : développement et différences individuelles." Dijon, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003DIJOL006.
What is working memory capacity ? What is the nature of developmental and individual differences ? A first series of experiments shows that differences in working memory (WM) influence performance of adults and children not only in complex cognitive activities, but also in elementary activities relying on retrieval from long-term memory. The WM capacity would correspond to the quantity of attentional resources available to perform retrievals. This quantity is independent of the attentional focus size and affects the speed of retrievals, the learning of new knowledge and the selection of strategies. A second series of experiments evaluates the WM capacity by asking subjects to perform series of retrievals at a fixed pace simultaneoulsy to the maintenance of information in short term memory. The spans are then more predictive of scholastic achievement than traditional spans. All our results suggest that WM capacities are even more central than predicted by actual theoretical models
