The advent of Industry 4.0 and the difficulties emerged in the pandemic and post-pandemic period have introduced important changes, raising many reflections on the skills needed to address the new social, economic, and professional challenges. This contribution is part of the epistemological and methodological framework of a larger project dealing with in-company training. Today it is necessary to invest, more and more resolutely, in the training of human capital to life skills, adopting strategies consistent with the availability of companies and business objectives. Technical-specific skills are no longer sufficient to guarantee the worker’s permanence and well-being in the labour market. We will look at digital competence as one of the essential skills for active citizenship and digital transition. Transizione digitale: promozione e sviluppo delle skill trasferibili in ambito aziendale. L’avvento di Industria 4.0 e le difficoltà emerse nel periodo pandemico e post-pandemico, hanno introdotto importanti cambiamenti, sollevando numerose riflessioni relative alle competenze necessarie per affrontare le nuove sfide sociali, economiche e lavorative. Il presente contributo si colloca nel quadro epistemologico e metodologico di un progetto più ampio che si occupa di formazione in azienda. Ad oggi è necessario investire, sempre più e con maggiore risolutezza, nella formazione del capitale umano alle life skill, adottando strategie coerenti con la disponibilità delle aziende e con gli obiettivi di business. Le competenze tecnico-specifiche non sono più sufficienti, infatti, a garantire la permanenza e il benessere del lavoratore nel mercato del lavoro. In particolare, ci occuperemo di competenza digitale, fra le competenze essenziali per la cittadinanza attiva e la transizione digitale.

This era is marked by a profound mutation in the forms and expression of human life that reflects a substantial alteration of the traditional coordinates of space and time, axes of thought con-fused into a third dimension imposed by the digital environment: immediacy. This transition implies a reflection on educational potential of technologies in response to contemporary emergencies and fragilities. Therefore, in this historical-cultural context, it might be appropriate to rethink digital skills no longer as hard skills, i.e., as mere technical-computational skills, but as soft skills, i.e., cognitive-operational skills, , indispensable for inhabiting in onlife era. Hence, the need to have Media Educators with a strong educative and cultural, as well as technological, identity, who know how to operate especially in the non-formal and informal sphere, in the third sector and in the territories of risk, moving effectively and efficiently, between criticalities and opportunities, in the living platforms of digital, a potential place for the development of digital soft skills. L’epoca che viviamo sembra attraversata da una profonda mutazione nelle forme e nell’espressione della vita umana che riflettono una sostanziale alterazione delle coordinate tradizionali di spazio e tempo, assi del pensiero con-fusi in una terza dimensione imposta dall’ambiente digitale: l’istantaneità. Questa transizione implica una riflessione circa le potenzialità educative delle tecnologie in risposta alle emergenze e alle fragilità contemporanee. Quindi, in questo contesto storico-culturale, potrebbe essere opportuno ripensare le competenze digitali non più come hard skills, ossia come mere abilità di natura tecnico-computazionale, bensì come soft skills, ossia abilità cognitivo-operazionali, indispensabili per abitare in epoca onlife. In Italia la vigente cornice legislativa prevede nelle scuole la transizione al libro di testo elettronico e individua nei docenti i principali soggetti coinvolti nell’autoproduzione e valutazione di questi materiali didattici digitali. Nel presente studio vengono descritti il design, lo sviluppo e la valutazione di un prototipo di libro di testo digitale, multimediale e interattivo, nel tentativo di indagare le principali criticità poste dalla sua realizzazione, i possibili elementi di innovazione rispetto al tradizionale libro di testo, e fornire delle linee-guida ai docenti sempre più responsabili della scrittura e validazione di queste nuove tipologie di testi. Per valutare l’usabilità cognitivo-didattica del prototipo è stato somministrato un questionario a un panel di esperti. Nella prima parte dell’articolo vengono descritti i risultati della rassegna della letteratura svolta al fine di rintracciare buone regole e principi di design; la seconda parte descrive lo sviluppo del prototipo e la procedura di raccolta e analisi dei dati. I risultati ottenuti vengono successivamente discussi ed infine si cerca di trarre qualche conclusione da quanto emerso. In Italy the current legislative framework foresees the transition to the electronic textbook in schools and identifies teachers as the main subjects involved in the self-production and evaluation of these digital teaching materials. This paper describes the design, development and evaluation of a digital, multimedia and interactive textbook prototype, in an attempt to investigate the main critical issues raised by its implementation and the possible elements of innovation compared to the traditional textbook. In addition, it provides guidelines for teachers who are increasingly responsible for the writing and validation of these new types of texts. To assess the cognitive-didactic usability of the prototype, a questionnaire was given to a panel of experts. The first part of the paper describes the outcomes of the literature review carried out in order to draw effective design principles; the second part illustrates the prototype development and the procedure adopted to collect and analyze data. The results are then discussed and finally some conclusions are drawn.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNGDer Übergang von der kinder- und jugendpsychiatrischen und -psychotherapeutischen Versorgung (KJPP) zu Versorgungsangeboten im Erwachsenenbereich stellt für junge Menschen mit psychischen Erkrankungen eine Herausforderung dar. Es drohen Behandlungsabbrüche, die Behandlungs- und Versorgungskontinuität ist gefährdet. Erfahrungen zeigen, dass nur ein kleiner Teil der jungen Erwachsenen einen reibungslosen Übergang erlebt, während die Mehrheit in die „Transitionslücke“ fällt. Nach einer Übersichtsdarstellung zu Forschungsergebnissen zu hiermit verbundenen Hindernissen innerhalb des Gesundheits- und Sozialsystems, stellt dieser Artikel traditionelle und neue digitale Möglichkeiten (ProTransition-App) zur Unterstützung junger Menschen in dieser Lebensphase vor.

English abstract: The Qurʾān is both a holy scripture and a holy object. As the latter, certain rules pertain to it as a physical book, including rules of placement, disposal, and ritual purity. In this article, we discuss the material aspects of the Qurʾān, the transition from the physical version to the digital or ‘appified’ version, and which religious practices are transferred, adapted, or entirely dropped in this transition, forming the point of depature for our study. The article is based on an ongoing qualitative study of the attitudes of 13 Danish-Muslim informants regarding the physical as well as the digital Qurʾān. From this data, we argue that the transition between these two types of media caused several new issues to be considered by our informants, for example, concerning rules of purity when dealing with a Qurʾān app. Dansk resume: Koranen er både en hellig tekst og et helligt objekt. Som en fysisk bog findes der derfor diverse regler, som muslimer skal tage højde for, fx i forhold til placering, bortskaffelse og rituel renselse. I denne artikel diskuterer vi Koranens materielle aspekter med det udgangspunkt at undersøge, hvordan man forholder sig til overgangen fra den fysiske koran til den digitale eller ‘appificerede’ koran, og hvilke religiøse praksisser der overføres, tilpasses eller helt droppes i denne overgang. Artiklen er baseret på et igangværende kvalitativt studie af 13 dansk-muslimske informanters holdninger til Koranen, såvel i fysisk som i digital form. Ud fra denne data argumenterer vi, at overgangen imellem de to typer medier medførte en del nye overvejelser og problematikker, som vores informanter blev nødt til at forholde sig til, fx i forhold til renhedsforskrifter når man havde at gøre med en koran-app.

Innovation 4.0 is a strategic lever of industrial policies. That is the reason why, over the last decade, many European countries have introduced national plans to implement it in their economic fabric. Within this context, this paper focuses on the effects of Industry 4.0 policies in Italy and Europe by presenting the results of a research study on the national and continental ecosystems of innovation. In particular, the study was conducted by involving the main key bodies introduced by the “Transition 4.0” plan in Italy: Competence Centers (CCs), Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs), and Punti Impresa Digitale (PID). The study adopted a qualitative–quantitative approach: an analysis of gray literature, semi-structured interviews, and a survey involving Italian and European DIHs were carried out. The results highlight an ambivalent scenario: on the one hand, the research suggests that the consolidation of the ecosystems of innovation is underway in Italy and relies on good organizational capacity; on the other hand, the international comparison indicates that the Italian system still suffers from a marked territorial and institutional fragmentation that needs to be addressed in the coming years.

The pandemic has forced all organizations, public and private, to suddenly change the way they operate to adapt to the limitations imposed by governments. According to many authors, the pandemic period represented a moment of enormous acceleration of the digital transition process that we were all already experiencing. Even universities needed to convert all their assets very quickly according to remote/agile work paradigm. Teaching activities were reconfigured to be conducted with remote teaching tools, largely using digital communication platforms. This article presents the results of a research involving a national representative sample of university teachers. They were asked, on the one hand, to reconstruct the main features of the teaching experience during the first phase of the pandemic, and on the other, to evaluate its effectiveness and results. Finally, they were asked to evaluate how much the techniques learned could be useful in the post-Covid period in ordinary teaching and how useful they consider adopting a hybrid or blended model of teaching. The data presented allow us to offer some initial reflections on the effective acceleration of the digital transition process of university teaching and the actual level of transformation that the pandemic period has triggered.

"Starting with the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, humanity is experiencing a new societal type, the information society. The emergence of computers, the Internet, digital information, artificial intelligence and digital devices with the ability to automatically process information, work autonomously, or even form networks with other devices, cyber and virtual space and so on have led to a technological explosion and the digitalization of societies. Under these circumstances, the digitalization and virtualization of many human activities and relationships in all societal domains constitutes a postmodern “game changer” of societies. Consequently, digitalization has major repercussions at the level of security and the international security environment. We are witnessing a transition from the nuclear century to the digital century, through the emergence of a new type of human confrontation, the digital confrontation. This new type of confrontation manifests itself both in virtual space, through what we so often hear as cyber war, and in real space, through digitalization of defence and the battlefield. Thus, if the security environment of the 20th century was characterized by globalization under the auspices of the nuclear threat, is it appropriate to consider that the 21st century will be characterized by de-globalization under the auspices of the digital threat?"

Muovendo brevemente dalla sua origine arcaico-mitologica e assumendone la successiva declinazione cristiana, l’articolo approfondisce poi più propriamente la traduzione secolarizzata e in termini di fantasmagoria dello stesso. Ciò a partire dall’avvento della seconda modernità, quindi dalla transizione al capitalismo avanzato e attraverso autori di riferimento quali i surrealisti Louis Aragon e André Breton, Roger Caillois, Walter Benjamin. Infine il testo propone un’attualizzazione dell’idea labirintico-infernale nel contesto categoriale delle analisi del postmoderno fino allo scenario contemporaneo, interrogando alcuni dei problemi principali posti dalla rivoluzione digitale, la relazione immagine-realtà, le oscillazioni tra il catastrofismo tecnofobico e le utopie accelerazioniste, il dissolvimento delle fantasmagorie del presente.   This contribution deals with the conceptual nexus of the labyrinth and hell. Starting briefly from its archaic-mythological origin and assuming its subsequent Christian declination, the article then delves more specifically into its secularised translation and in terms of phantasmagoria. This starts with the advent of modernity, then the transition to advanced capitalism and through reference authors such as the surrealists Louis Aragon and André Breton, Roger Caillois and Walter Benjamin. Finally, the text proposes an actualisation of the labyrinthine-infernal idea in the categorical context of the analyses of postmodernism up to the contemporary scenario, questioning some of the main problems posed by the digital revolution, the image-reality relation, the oscillations between technophobic catastrophism and accelerationist utopias, the dissolution of the phantasmagorias of the present.

The European Commission’s new industrial strategy launched in 2020 looked to lay the foundations for the twin transition to a green and digital economy. Within the same year, the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need to accelerate the green and digital development of specific sectors of the European Union’s economy. As tourism was arguably hit hardest by the pandemic, it became the first sector for which a transition pathway was developed. The European Commission’s report entitled Transition Pathway for Tourism, published in 2022, described the measures needed to accelerate the twin green and digital transitions within the tourism industry. This review paper focuses on the European Commission’s report and it includes an outline of the characteristics of the green and digital transitions; a brief outline of the review process; the results of a literature search, undertaken to provide an academic context for the paper; a summary of the European Commission’s report with a specific focus on the ‘green and digital transition’ (European Commission 2022a): some reflections on the green and digital transition of tourism; and a brief conclusion. Background Older adults experience a high risk of adverse events during hospital-to-home transitions. Implementation barriers have prevented widespread clinical uptake of the various digital health technologies that aim to support hospital-to-home transitions. Objective To guide the development of a digital health intervention to support transitions from hospital to home (the Digital Bridge intervention), the specific objectives of this review were to describe the various roles and functions of health care providers supporting hospital-to-home transitions for older adults, allowing future technologies to be more targeted to support their work; describe the types of digital health interventions used to facilitate the transition from hospital to home for older adults and elucidate how these interventions support the roles and functions of providers; describe the lessons learned from the design and implementation of these interventions; and identify opportunities to improve the fit between technology and provider functions within the Digital Bridge intervention and other transition-focused digital health interventions. Methods This 2-phase rapid review involved a selective review of providers’ roles and their functions during hospital-to-home transitions (phase 1) and a structured literature review on digital health interventions used to support older adults’ hospital-to-home transitions (phase 2). During the analysis, the technology functions identified in phase 2 were linked to the provider roles and functions identified in phase 1. Results In phase 1, various provider roles were identified that facilitated hospital-to-home transitions, including navigation-specific roles and the roles of nurses and physicians. The key transition functions performed by providers were related to the 3 categories of continuity of care (ie, informational, management, and relational continuity). Phase 2, included articles (n=142) that reported digital health interventions targeting various medical conditions or groups. Most digital health interventions supported management continuity (eg, follow-up, assessment, and monitoring of patients’ status after hospital discharge), whereas informational and relational continuity were the least supported. The lessons learned from the interventions were categorized into technology- and research-related challenges and opportunities and informed several recommendations to guide the design of transition-focused digital health interventions. Conclusions This review highlights the need for Digital Bridge and other digital health interventions to align the design and delivery of digital health interventions with provider functions, design and test interventions with older adults, and examine multilevel outcomes. Digital transformation refers to the integration of digital technologies, such as data analytics and automation, into an organization, engendering changes in its work routines, processes, structure, and culture. However, digital transition is a strategic process involving significant structural and procedural changes in the shift from one technology to another. Therefore, understanding the effect of organizational routines is essential for understanding how digital transformation impacts an organization, and how best to manage this transition. This study explores the impact of organizational routines on digital transition, in order to understand how they can facilitate a successful digital transformation. It employs a single case study of a university that recently implemented digital technologies, including big data analytics and automation, in some of its managerial services for its employees. It marked a significant technological shift for this public university, and the study specifically explores how the organizational routines affected this digital transition, particularly in terms of managerial and administrative issues. In modern times, many universities worldwide have undergone significant changes, and it is therefore essential to document the impact of organizational routines on digital transition, especially in developing countries where universities play a crucial societal role. The complexity of universities as organizations, and the interaction between organizational routines and digital transition highlight the importance of a case study approach for understanding this complexity. The university with which this study is concerned is a leading public university that holds considerable influence and a leadership role within the higher education sector, and which has adopted various technologies and information systems. The success of the digital transformation at this university may have a significant impact on other universities in the region and encourage them to adopt similar approaches to digital transition and digital transformation in the future, if they understand the impact of organizational routines in such transitions. The results show that organizational routines play a leading role in digital transformation transition; moreover, some aspects can explain the ways in which these routines influence digital transformation transition, such as inherited status, the adaptation of technology and changes to current organizational settings, and power. This study can contribute toward the successful implementation of digital transformation and influence the strategies adopted for the transitions required by digital technologies.

Background Virtual Health and Wellbeing Living Lab Infrastructure is a Horizon 2020 project that aims to harmonize Living Lab procedures and facilitate access to European health and well-being research infrastructures. In this context, this study presents a joint research activity that will be conducted within Virtual Health and Wellbeing Living Lab Infrastructure in the transitional care domain to test and validate the harmonized Living Lab procedures and infrastructures. The collection of data from various sources (information and communications technology and clinical and patient-reported outcome measures) demonstrated the capacity to assess risk and support decisions during care transitions, but there is no harmonized way of combining this information. Objective This study primarily aims to evaluate the feasibility and benefit of collecting multichannel data across Living Labs on the topic of transitional care and to harmonize data processes and collection. In addition, the authors aim to investigate the collection and use of digital biomarkers and explore initial patterns in the data that demonstrate the potential to predict transition outcomes, such as readmissions and adverse events. Methods The current research protocol presents a multicenter, prospective, observational cohort study that will consist of three phases, running consecutively in multiple sites: a cocreation phase, a testing and simulation phase, and a transnational pilot phase. The cocreation phase aims to build a common understanding among different sites, investigate the differences in hospitalization discharge management among countries, and the willingness of different stakeholders to use technological solutions in the transitional care process. The testing and simulation phase aims to explore ways of integrating observation of a patient’s clinical condition, patient involvement, and discharge education in transitional care. The objective of the simulation phase is to evaluate the feasibility and the barriers faced by health care professionals in assessing transition readiness. Results The cocreation phase will be completed by April 2022. The testing and simulation phase will begin in September 2022 and will partially overlap with the deployment of the transnational pilot phase that will start in the same month. The data collection of the transnational pilots will be finalized by the end of June 2023. Data processing is expected to be completed by March 2024. The results will consist of guidelines and implementation pathways for large-scale studies and an analysis for identifying initial patterns in the acquired data. Conclusions The knowledge acquired through this research will lead to harmonized procedures and data collection for Living Labs that support transitions in care. El abordaje se realiza a través de la investigación basada en problemas (IBP), como una aproximación descriptiva-analítica a posibles líneas de investigación con base en los programas de formación inicial de la Escuela Judicial “Rodrigo Lara Bonilla”. Se analiza cómo, si bien las TIC y las modalidades de formación virtual y semipresencial representan amplias ventajas frente a los modelos tradicionales de formación presencial transmisionistas o dogmáticos, tales beneficios deben ser evaluados en virtud de factores como la calidad, la transparencia y la equidad, no solo del sistema formativo de la Rama Judicial sino de la administración de justicia. Se concluye que, en virtud de la alta demanda de servicios judiciales y necesidad de flexibilidad en el entrenamiento de ‘jueces y magistrados, son mayores las oportunidades con la transición digital para la formación y práctica judicial que sus riesgos. No obstante, tales transiciones deben ser pensadas integralmente en términos pedagógicos y éticos.

This article is devoted to the evaluation of the analysis of the level of effectiveness of some of the indicators that exist for the digital transition of the organization. It is based on the OECD Digital Transition Indicators, which measure digital transformation at the national level, as well as five key metrics for decision makers: return on digital investment, percentage of annual technology budget dedicated to disruptive digital initiatives, time needed to create a digital applications, the percentage of leader incentives associated with digital constructs that create value, and finally retaining or promoting the best technical talent. Multiple business visions are analyzed using the same KPIs. The conclusions of this article are given at the end of the article. Social media also experienced transitions from paper material to digital forms. In the previous years of the COVID outbreak, a particular part of social media---tourism, has been affected and is worth paying attention to. Lonely Planet (abbreviated as LP) is one of the most famous tourism media brands, previous researches have shown its development or transitions during the pandemic. Through using surveys, questionnaires and interviews, this research aims at investigating the strategy of LP for digital transition over the pandemic period, which could be applied for other media companies as an inspiration. The result from surveying LP in a chronicle order suggests negative impacts the COVID has on the business, while the transition of the company is spontaneous, also containing positive potentials for LP to get recovered or developed. Researchers receive 107 participants about their attitudes and understandings toward the transition of travel media and pandemic effects, and it shows the majority of audience focus on convenience of the journalist media, and most of them are optimistic about the digital transition of traditional media, agreeing with the statement that digital media would receive a wider audience, which indicates a benefit in digital transition. Two interviews are also carried out with loyal fans of Lonely Planet. The interviewees are used to reading printed material and are convinced that COVID affected traditional media use. However, they agree that digital platforms would not completely replace the traditional media in Lonely Planet’s case, presenting a surprising point of view.

Overall, the paper investigates pathways, priorities, and methods allowing public authorities and business organisations to master the current industrial transformation of cities and regions introduced by the twin digital and green transitions as an opportunity for radical change of city ecosystems, innovation leapfrogging, and system innovation.

A conventional differential line (DL), commonly used on typical digital circuit boards for transmitting high-speed digital data, has fundamental limitations on the maximum signal bandwidth (~10 GHz), mainly due to signal skew, multiple line coupling, and EM interference. Therefore, to support super-high-speed digital data transmission, especially for beyond 5G communications, a practical high-performance transmission structure for digital signals is required. Balanced lines (BLs) can transmit the differential signals with multiple advantages of ultra-wide bandwidth, common-mode rejection, reduced crosstalk, phase recovery, and skew reduction, which enable super-high-speed transmission. In order to utilize the BLs in the DL-based digital circuit, connecting structures between a DL and BLs are required, but the DL-to-BL transition structures dominate the operating bandwidth and signal properties. Therefore, in this paper, properties, and design methods for two ultra-wideband DL-to-BL transitions, i.e., DL-to-CPS (coplanar stripline) and DL-to-PSL (parallel stripline) transitions, are presented. Both implemented DL-to-CPS and DL-to-PSL transitions provide high-quality performance up to 40 GHz or higher, significantly enhancing the frequency bandwidth for the transmission of digital signals while providing compatibility with the DL-based PCBs. The fabricated DL-to-CPS transition performs well from DC to 40 GHz with an insertion loss of less than 0.86 dB and a return loss of more than 10 dB, and the fabricated DL-to-PSL transition also provides good performance from DC to 40 GHz, with an insertion loss of less than 1.34 dB and a return loss of more than 10 dB. Therefore, the proposed DL-to-BL transitions can be applied to achieve super-high-speed digital data transmission with over 40 GHz bandwidth, which is more than four times the bandwidth of the DL, supporting over 200 Gbps of digital data transmission on PCBs for the next generation of advanced communications.

Abstract. Based on the Chinese Geomorphologic Database at 1 : 1 000 000 scales, the distribution of the typical loess geomorphologic types (such as the loess tableland, loess ridge and loess knoll) is acquired in the Loess Plateau of China. Then, based on the SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) digital elevation model (DEM) data and topographic analysis methods, the slope spectrums are computed for the typical loess geomorphologic types and their subtypes. Through achieving the tendency line of the slope spectrum and analysing the slope spectrum characteristics of the loess typical geomorphologic types, the transitional relationships are explored: (1) the general rule is that loess tableland transitions to loess ridge, and then to loess knoll. (2) The specific relationships for the subtypes are as follows: in loess tableland, the transition is from loess terrace to complete tableland, then to residual tableland, and finally to beam tableland. In the loess ridge, the transition is from oblique ridge to knoll ridge, and the final stage is the loess knoll.

The Test pattern generator (TPGs) is one of the computationally intensive and performance centric computational block in BIST applications and has been investigated in many existing works to maximize its contribution towards testing the digital circuits; however, design constraints associated to the system leads significant improvements in TPG model. This paper proposes energy efficient FSM state transition-based LFSR TPG to formulate test patterns with maximum length and randomness. Here LFSR generated test patterns generated from conventional LFSR reseeding model with fixed polynomial configuration is decomposed into smaller units and follows FSM encoding to convert into multiple independent test vector blocks. The concatenation of these encoded vector blocks offers improved test vectors which includes transitional and non- transitional encoded values to regulate the overall switching activity. According to the power constrains each binary positions of test vectors are weighted to control certain bit transitions which can significantly optimize the dynamic power consumption during testing process. Finally, FSM controller is used to control state transition in addition to the variable clock to maximize the randomness randomization characteristics of LFSR. Here both clock rate and number state in FSM machine can be dynamically changed to modify the LFSR statistics in accordance with BIST requirements.

The literature defines transitional care as the coordination and continuity of care during the transition from one health care setting to another or to home. Referred to as transition of care, between health care professionals and settings, as their condition and care needs change during the course of a chronic illness, acute illness or acute admission. In this scenario, the transition of care from hospital to home carries a number of risks of adverse events and poor care continuity. Therefore, daily technologies such as wearables and smart devices can support the improvement of interventions as they can collect up-to-date daily data from patients, helping to gain an in depth understanding of the real situation and their healthcare needs, improving the transition care process. The aim of this research, integrated in VITALISE Project (H2020.GA101007990), is to identify and explore the needs, barriers and challenges of transitional care by involving different stakeholders in different participating countries. In Spain 3 patients, 2 carers and 7 health professionals participated in co-creation sessions with a person-centred approach addressing the topic of using ICT tools to gather information/data to support the transitional care process (hospital discharge process and recovery at home) and to collect information on current practices in transitional care processes (from hospital to home). Two sessions with patients, carers and with professionals, aimed to understand the different perspectives on each profile, enriching the comments and contributions. Two facilitators with experience guiding accessible co-creation sessions ensured each participant had a space for participation. The sessions were distributed in four blocks: 1) understanding the current practice in transitional care; 2) experience in the use of smart devices and digital tools; 3) understanding the barriers, difficulties and challenges in using digital tools in this process and 4) what the ideal role of technology would be. As a finding, during the patients and carers session participants highlighted that there should be a protocol for the transition process but that it is currently not established and it all depends on how ""fortunate"" you are. They appreciate the advantages given by the health system in their respective country, but they do not agree with the organisational set-up or with some specific actions. Regarding technology, they mostly accept technology in transition processes and believe that it can bring many benefits helping to improve (as long as it is not used to replace human care). On the other hand, professionals use technology in their work on a daily basis and have a very broad view of its impact on people's experiences and its acceptability. Finally, beyond the benefits for the user, professionals take advantage of these technologies to improve individual care and systematise the collection of information. Overall, the inclusion of digital technologies is accepted in integrated and transitional care processes, when adapted to the users and not the other way around. Cells in complex organisms can transition between epithelial and mesenchymal phenotypes during both normal and malignant physiological events. These two phenotypes are not binary, but rather describe a spectrum of cell states along an axis. Mammalian cells can undergo dynamic and heterogenous bidirectional interconversions along the epithelial–mesenchymal phenotypic (EMP) spectrum, and such transitions are marked by morphological change. Here, we exploit digital holographic cytometry (DHC) to develop a tractable method for monitoring the degree, kinetics, and heterogeneity of epithelial and mesenchymal phenotypes in adherent mammalian cell populations. First, we demonstrate that the epithelial and mesenchymal states of the same cell line present distinct DHC-derived morphological features. Second, we identify quantitative changes in these features that occur hours after induction of the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT). We apply this approach to achieve label-free tracking of the degree and the rate of EMP transitions. We conclude that DHC is an efficient method to investigate morphological changes during transitions between epithelial and mesenchymal states.

This study aimed to: i) explore the experiences of hospital and community providers with delivering transitional care during the COVID-19 pandemic; ii) understand how rapid digitalization in healthcare has helped or hindered hospital-to-home transitions during the COVID-19 pandemic; and, iii) explore expectations of which elements of technology use may be sustained post-pandemic. Methods Using a pragmatic qualitative descriptive approach, remote interviews with healthcare providers involved in hospital-to-home transitions in Ontario, Canada, were conducted. Interviews were analyzed using a team-based rapid qualitative analysis approach to generate timely results. Visual summary maps displaying key concepts/ideas were created for each interview and revised based on input from multiple team members. Maps that displayed similar concepts were then combined to create a final map, forming the themes and subthemes. Results Sixteen healthcare providers participated, of which 11 worked in a hospital, and five worked in a community setting. COVID-19 was reported to have profoundly impacted healthcare providers, patients, and their caregivers and influenced the communication processes. There were several noted opportunities for technology to support transitions. Interpretation Several challenges with technology use were highlighted, which could impact post-pandemic sustainability. However, the perceived opportunities for technology in supporting transitions indicate the need to investigate the optimal role of technology in the transition workflow.

Urban transitions and urban-scape have been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and will likely be affected by the current Ukrainian-Russian conflict. These two major events have affected European urban regions and especially marginal regions. Indeed, these regions are mostly struggling with inequality, lack of optionality, interoperability, and resilience due to their energy dependency and digital asymmetries. The continuous demand for a green and digital transition to strengthen social and economic resilience sought and targeted by the European Community has driven the policy of recent years to new European Guidelines. Nevertheless, the digital transition will require sustainability targets in the urban context, changing economic, social, and ecological relationships and balances. In this context, faced with these new transitions, marginal urban regions must plan, design, build, and manage future urban planning choices in a new digital-hybrid space. Therefore, it is crucial to support these transitions with a multi-dimensional sustainability concept through economic, environmental, social, and digital measurements. Urban sustainability indicators (USIs) play an essential role in supporting urban choices and planning. The current study analyzes recent literature and European standards to verify if and how they have changed in embracing the European Policy Pillar under a new and different sustainability profile, which needs to include digital sustainability. As a matter of fact, even if the concept of digitization has been recognized as a pillar of ongoing transitions, the literature and even European indicators struggle to recognize it as a tangible and measurable indicator of sustainability. Seeking to bridge the gap between European requirements and urban practice, the aim of this study is to identify and suggest new key indicators of digitalization to enable the digital sustainability of urban planning to be measured. These indicators can be used to implement a new valuation tool capable of supporting marginal regions by promoting sustainable urban investments in this new hybrid space.

The adaptation of traditional newspapers to new digital media and its interface, far from being a mere technical transformation, has contributed to a gradual change in the media themselves and their audiences. With a sample including the top general information pay newspaper in each of the 28 countries of the European Union, this research has carried out an analysis using 17 indicators divided in 4 categories. The aim is to identify the transformations that the implementation of digital media have brought to the top European newspapers. In general terms, the results show that most dailies have managed to keep their leadership also in online environment. Moreover, an emerging group of global media is growing up, based in preexisting national media. Digital and mobile media have contributed to the appearance of new consumption habits as well, where users read more superficially and sporadically. The audience uses several formats at a time, and digital devices already bring the biggest amount of users to many media. The Internet-created new information windows –search engines, social networks, etc. –are also contributing to the change in professional work routines. La adaptación de los medios de comunicación tradicionales a los nuevos soportes digitales y su interfaz, lejos de constituir un mero ajuste técnico, ha contribuido a una paulatina transformación de los propios medios y sus audiencias. En una muestra integrada por los diarios de información general y de pago líderes en los 28 países de la UE, y mediante el análisis de 17 indicadores distribuidos en cuatro categorías, este artículo busca identificar las transformaciones que la implantación de los soportes digitales han provocado en las principales cabeceras de la prensa europea. En términos generales, los resultados de la investigación señalan que la mayoría de los diarios no sólo han logrado mantener su liderazgo en la Red, sino que en algunos casos también se está alumbrando un incipiente conjunto de medios globales a partir de medios nacionales preexistentes. Los soportes digitales y móviles también han favorecido la aparición de nuevos hábitos de consumo, caracterizados por una lectura más esporádica y superficial por parte de los usuarios, y han configurado una audiencia que ya en muchos casos es multisoporte, y donde los dispositivos digitales aportan ya la mayoría de lectores a muchos medios. Asimismo, las nuevas ventanas de acceso a la información –buscadores, redes sociales, etc.– generadas por Internet, también están contribuyendo decisivamente al cambio de las rutinas y las formas de trabajo de los propios medios.

Purpose The study focused on online public access catalog (OPAC) users’ cross-device search behavior. The purpose of this paper is to understand the characteristics of cross-device OPAC searches, and to identify query reformulation (QR) patterns during device transitions. Design/methodology/approach The transaction log from a university library, spanning six months, was used to conduct the quantitative analysis. The query vocabulary richness, which refers to the average number of unique words each query contains in a search session, can evaluate query diversity, and contribute to the analysis of QR. Findings The results show that PC-PC transition is the most important pattern of device transition. The time interval of device transition was different to the time interval of transitions in web searches. Short device transitions mainly occurred in daytime, and the number of transitions that occurred in less than one minute was higher than on the web. Searches for Industry and Technology triggered the most device transitions, and the users tended to choose the same search field. In addition, the authors made a detailed analysis of the reasons for same-type device transitions and different-type device transitions. Furthermore, the authors focused on the characteristics of adjacent QR patterns. The authors not only refined the concept of cross-device to include the same-type device transition, but also summarized the characteristics of the cross-device QR patterns, which can be used to predict post-switch queries. Originality/value This study extends research into cross-device interaction and cross-device search to the domain of digital library research. The authors also introduced QR perspective on cross-device interaction on OPAC.

Para ello se describe y analiza la base de datos del proyecto Hismedi-Transición a la democracia, con el objetivo de distinguir y cuantificar las diferentes fuentes digitales que forman parte de sus colecciones. En la actualidad, los recursos pueden dividirse en: blogs, documentales en plataformas de vídeo, especiales de medios de comunicación, páginas webs, bases de datos, redes sociales como Twitter o Facebook, portales educativos, boletines y newsletters. This article looks at new ways of putting the past on display, specifically the digital sources pertaining to the Spanish transition that constitute the new digital, historical and journalistic public sphere. The article describes and analyses the database resulting from the HISMEDI: Political Transition to Democracy project, with the aim of distinguishing and quantifying the different digital sources that are part of its collections. Currently, resources can be divided into: blogs, documentaries on video platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo, media features, websites, databases, social networks such as Twitter or Facebook, educational portals, bulletins and newsletters, etc.

Introduction. This paper reports the results of a study concerning the views and the expectations of primary teachers for the transition from kindergarten to primary school. Goal. In a recently new educational environment, in which all educators “forced” to continue their educational practices as to ensure for their students a smooth transition from one level to another, two transitions processes implemented. The first one concerns the move from in-person to virtual delivery of the language classroom and the second one concern the preschoolers’ transition from kindergarten to primary school. Methods of the Research. In this context, 16 Greek first grade primary school teachers' views about their (previous preschoolers) students' literacy development and elements of literacy knowledge after remote teaching (in a preschool setting) were collected with semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The Results. The results showed that support for the transition of young children from preschool to primary school settings and literacy development was inevitably affected into this new educational environment. Therefore, teachers propose the continuity between early childhood and primary school literacy programmes as the key for a smoother transition. Based on evaluations of experiences, a smooth transition and continuity from one level to another could be also facilitated and intermediated by collaboration of preschool and primary school teachers and other stakeholders. Furthermore, discontinuities in early childhood literacy education and development could be disappeared if policy makers try to bridge and sculpt “distances” via effective transition programmes. Conclusions. The knowledge of current practice, priorities, challenges, and opportunities will help language educators to adjust their education offer, their syllabi, expectations, or pedagogical approaches to facilitate a more positive and smooth transition process for each and every learner.

The research is topical due to complex structure and multifactority of corruption in transition countries, its overcoming and prevention. The study is aimed to identify opportunities and assess the political experience of anti-corruption practices in transition countries, based on analysis of anti-corruption policy, in part e-government. Case study methods, systemic analysis of modernization processes in the political systems of transition countries, structural and functional analysis of anti-corruption policy, methods for predicting the success of transit processes in countries, modeling plausible scenarios of these processes were applied. Transitional systems are highly corrupt. There is institutional corruption in transition countries, i.e. corruption that has become a special institution regarding traumatic social transformation. The reason for institutionalization of corruption is weakness of transitional states, which has not yet become democratic. The use of information technology in political management becomes one of the leading criteria for democratization of political institutions, openness of political systems. Optimization of anti-corruption practices involves in part introduction of e-government. The consideration of e-government is methodologically comprehensive. The consequences of corruption relate to the redistribution of budget funds, various economic benefits, which are not always good for citizens. Economic growth is slowing down, the priorities of socio-economic development are distorted, the labor and entrepreneurial motivation of economic agents, is distorted. The experience of modernization of transformations and political reforms in different regions shows that one of the main factors determining specifics of political process is effectiveness of national models of anti-corruption practices in interests of citizens

Abstract The paper presents a problem of a transition predicates construction in hierarchical concurrent state oriented notation. The notation, called statechart diagrams or state machine, serves as a very convenient formalism for specification of a complex behavior of the embedded systems control unit. The controller specified in this way is discrete, deterministic and synchronous system which operates on binary values and can be implemented in programmable devices as a digital circuit. Well designed controller has conflict-free transitions and its concurrent transitions should be independent. In order to meet this requirements transition predicates must be pairwise both orthogonal and non-implicative. Computational complexities of the problems is equal to classic clique problem. The paper also suggests some statecharts syntactic structures solving these problems.

This paper investigates the pivotal vectors of transition—Green Transition, Digital Transition, New Globalization, War Economy, and Housing Crisis Management—that are set to reshape global economic and social landscapes through 2030 and beyond. Utilizing a comprehensive methodology, we develop specialized scales to measure the progress of various countries within each vector. These scales integrate quantitative metrics such as renewable energy consumption, digital infrastructure quality, trade diversification, defense spending, and housing affordability, among others. Our findings reveal significant interconnections between these vectors, showing how advancements in one area can influence outcomes in others. For instance, digital advancements not only propel the Digital Transition but also support the Green Transition by enhancing energy efficiency. Similarly, the dynamics of New Globalization are influenced by shifts in global security under the War Economy, impacting international trade and economic policies. The implications of this study are profound, suggesting that policymakers and business leaders must adopt integrated strategies that consider these interdependencies to effectively navigate future challenges. The scales developed herein provide a robust framework for ongoing assessment, allowing countries to benchmark their progress and identify areas needing strategic focus. By understanding the cumulative effects of these transitions, global stakeholders can better prepare for a rapidly evolving world, ensuring sustainable and equitable growth. This paper contributes to the scholarly discourse on global change by providing actionable insights and a methodological approach to assess and adapt to these inevitable transformations.

The literature defines transitional care as the coordination and continuity of care during the transition from one health care setting to another or to home. Referred to as transition of care, between health care professionals and settings, as their condition and care needs change during the course of a chronic illness, acute illness or acute admission. In this scenario, the transition of care from hospital to home carries a number of risks of adverse events and poor care continuity. Therefore, daily technologies such as wearables and smart devices can support the improvement of interventions as they can collect up-to-date daily data from patients, helping to gain an in depth understanding of the real situation and their healthcare needs, improving the transition care process. The aim of this research, integrated in VITALISE Project (H2020.GA101007990), is to identify and explore the needs, barriers and challenges of transitional care by involving different stakeholders in different participating countries. In Spain 3 patients, 2 carers and 7 health professionals participated in co-creation sessions with a person-centred approach addressing the topic of using ICT tools to gather information/data to support the transitional care process (hospital discharge process and recovery at home) and to collect information on current practices in transitional care processes (from hospital to home). Two sessions with patients, carers and with professionals, aimed to understand the different perspectives on each profile, enriching the comments and contributions. Two facilitators with experience guiding accessible co-creation sessions ensured each participant had a space for participation. The sessions were distributed in four blocks: 1) understanding the current practice in transitional care; 2) experience in the use of smart devices and digital tools; 3) understanding the barriers, difficulties and challenges in using digital tools in this process and 4) what the ideal role of technology would be. As a finding, during the patients and carers session participants highlighted that there should be a protocol for the transition process but that it is currently not established and it all depends on how ""fortunate"" you are. They appreciate the advantages given by the health system in their respective country, but they do not agree with the organisational set-up or with some specific actions. Regarding technology, they mostly accept technology in transition processes and believe that it can bring many benefits helping to improve (as long as it is not used to replace human care). On the other hand, professionals use technology in their work on a daily basis and have a very broad view of its impact on people's experiences and its acceptability. Finally, beyond the benefits for the user, professionals take advantage of these technologies to improve individual care and systematise the collection of information. Overall, the inclusion of digital technologies is accepted in integrated and transitional care processes, when adapted to the users and not the other way around. During the Digital Decade, the European Union (EU) is facing two important challenges: the green (and energy) transition and the digital transition, which are interconnected with one another. These transitions are of high relevance in the water sector, as water is always becoming more vulnerable to climate change (e.g., droughts and floods) and human activities (e.g., pollution and depletion). Hence, digital technologies are emerging as multi-benefit solutions to improve the sustainability of the water sector. In this study, some of the several economic benefits entailed by digital solutions are estimated with a focus on leakage reduction in water distribution networks, reduction of combined sewer overflows and on the improvement of hydropower generation and operation. The benefits are calculated for each EU Member State and the UK, and then aggregated at the EU scale. Benefits were quantified in EUR 5.0, 0.14 and 1.7 billion per year (EUR 13.2 per person per year, on average), respectively, excluding environmental and social benefits, which may play a non-negligible role.

Introduction: digital business ecosystems formation is a natural and integral process in growing digital economy. Digital transformation, as a consequence of the technologies development and complexity of the environment, inevitably causes a change in management and business models used, as well as the tools and technologies involved. The logic of business models development in the context of digitalization can be traced in the following sequence: “analog economy – traditional business models”, “transitional economy – mixed business models”, “digital economy – innovative business models and digital ecosystems”. Objectives: concept justification of a process scheme for digital business ecosystems formation, which allows building a comprehensive vision of management system approaches and decisions in the transition to digital business models and ecosystems in the context of the information society development. Methods: comparative and system analysis, processes modeling and decomposition, as well as statistical comparison methods based on a comprehensive approach to the study of digital transformation of the economy and business processes. Results: the modern approaches to structuring transition process from analog (traditional) business models to digital (innovative) ones have been summarized; business models characteristics typical of the process have been identified as well as the instruments ensuring the efficient transition. Conclusions: economic systems and business models digital transformation contributes to changing consumer behavior, increasing the efficiency of economic entities, expanding the market, building competitive advantages, and developing innovation.
