Although digitalization has profoundly changed the business logic in many industries, the healthcare sector still operates in many areas as in the pre-digital era. During recent years, humans have witnessed the rise of new digital health ventures, many of which have revolutionary ideas of how to transform business logics in the organizational fields of healthcare. However, in many cases the institutional arrangements of the field are so strong that new ventures face major challenges in breaking the institutional elements that prevent the introduction and diffusion of service innovations. This paper studies the cases of five companies that aim to transform specific niche areas in healthcare and how these entrepreneurs perceive the influence of institutional elements on their actions.

Анотація:

The focus of this research is on the experiences of a new fashion pedagogy linked to textile studios at Aalto University, School of Arts, Design and Architecture, in Helsinki, Finland. Rich practice-based research and skilled use of materials and textile techniques are elements of transforming fashion design implemented through studio-based pedagogy. Effective learning is constructed by adding tacit and haptic knowledge of textiles into fashion expression. Furthermore, while textile design combines elements from aesthetic creativity with technical skills, this knowledge, textile thinking, can form a new grounding for fashion design. Through reflective learning, practically oriented and theoretical knowledge can be combined, and hands-on studio pedagogy has established the platform for this type of learning. Fashion students’ textile studies extend to woven fabrics and jacquards as well as knits, embroideries, prints, and other finishing techniques and aim to teach them about industrial manufacturing and provide them with an understanding of industrial processes and requirements. This research observes this transformation process of fashion expression through textile thinking based on observations, teachers’ reflections, and student interviews. Further, the learning outcomes have been reflected against the transformation of the curriculum to provide understanding for this development process.

The article presents a comparative analysis of the stress-strain state of the elements of a spherical transforming mechanisms operating in various structural versions. During the analysis of the acting stresses, the calculation schemes of the acting forces were developed, the stress-strain state of the elements of the spherical transforming mechanism in dynamics was modeled. For the obtained results of the theoretical study, recommendations were developed to improve the reliability and strength, provided that this mechanism is used as part of various types of drive.

Abstract In this paper, transformer logistics networks are treated as flow models of discrete manufacturing systems (FMDMS). The purpose is to formalize FMDMS into logical formulas called transformer functions. Transformer logistics networks are able to handle buffers and their production orders in a way that ensures full monitoring of the logic technology stored in the memory of a transforming network (t-network). The structural and functional complexity of the t-network makes it impossible to carry out formal proof of its proper functioning for any new order placement in buffers and transformers. This is because with the growing capacity in buffers, the number of available states of tnetworks also increases, and as such, the number of transformers and buffers unable to effectively generate new production orders that protect the t-network is also increasing. The problem therefore becomes to maintain t-network equilibrium technology that guarantees the continuity of the logical operations and processes of resource transformation.

Coopetition is a strategic concept that integrates elements of competition and cooperation. This strategy focuses on creating an environment where working together develops additional value for all entities involved, but there is still competition for this newly established value. Mock trial is an experiential learning technique that can serve as a platform to implement coopetitive strategies, providing students the opportunity to cooperatively apply theory to practice in a competitive courtroom simulation. This extended abstract details implementation of coopetition through mock trial for the sport management classroom. Implications for enhancing the coopetitive environment through course format, mentorship, and facilitation are also discussed.

The terms governing the provision of supplies, services, or works by an economic operator to a governmental entity are set into a public contract that is signed, following a procurement process. This article explores whether the public administration can utilise smart contracts to incorporate the terms governing the provision of supplies, services, or works. The fundamental elements of a contract are assessed, in order to determine whether a smart contract can be considered as fulfilling these requirements. Following this assessment, the main hurdles to the use of smart contracting are examined and a possible solution proposed. The case for utilising smart contracting within the realm of public procurement is finally advocated.

Our world is facing various wicked problems, such as climate change and extinction. These complex problems require an in-depth understanding. STEM disciplines in higher education play a crucial role in preparing students to solve such problems in their career. Yet it can be questioned whether STEM in higher education offers all the elements required to prepare students for a sustainable future. Additionally, a sole focus on STEM fields may not contribute to finding solutions to these problems. With STE(A)M in higher education, we explore what the missing element in higher education is and how higher education can be improved. We addressed this question within the Honours Programme Transdisciplinary Insights of the Institute for the Future at KU Leuven. Within this programme, a team of students, PhD researchers and coaches from various disciplines examined the educational system and explored how students can be better prepared to co-create a more sustainable future. This learning path was supported by reading books about systems thinking, watching documentaries, following co-creative workshops, and engaging in team discussions. In this process, we found that the following four key elements could be given a greater emphasis in education: transdisciplinarity, systems thinking, co-creation, and critical thinking. To promote this, we created a board game that aims to make learning about the importance of these elements engaging. While playing this game, we learned that we can bring students from different dis ciplines together and foster critical thinking and reflec tions. These insights illustrate how creative tools (e.g. board games) can be used in higher education to foster important skills that can prepare students for a sustainable future. Since this game, developed by students for students, is entirely learner-driven, it departs from the current educational system in which knowledge is mainly transferred by professors. An important advantage of such initiatives is that they foster co-creation and learning between students. Our findings have been summarised in a small video.

The study explores the relationships between entrepreneurship, family, and enterprise development. The objective of the paper is to probe societal elements impacting entrepreneurship, and to identify the level of family participation in the transforming economy of Romania. We find that family plays an important role in at least two ways: direct support of the business, and through the development of social, community, and economic networks.

Stories are essential realities from our past and present. As the primary sources of data in narrative research, interview transcripts play an essential role in giving meaning to the personal stories of research participants. The pragmatic narratives found in transcripts represent human experience as it unfolds. Analyzing the narratives found in interview transcripts thus moves beyond providing descriptions and thematic developments as found in most qualitative studies. Crafting stories from interview transcripts involves a complex set of analytic processes. Building on the first author's personal experience in working on a doctoral thesis employing narrative inquiry, this article presents a multimethod restorying framework to narrative analysis. A step-by-step progression within the framework includes choosing interview participants, transcribing interviews, familiarizing oneself with the transcripts (elements of holistic-content reading), chronologically plotting (elements of the story), use of follow-up interviews as a way to collaborate (an important procedure in narrative inquiry), and developing the story through structural analysis. It is hoped that this article will encourage other researchers embarking on narrative analysis to become creative in presenting participants’ lived experiences through meaningful, collaborative strategies. This article demonstrates the fluidity of narrative analysis and emphasizes that there is no single procedure to be followed in attempting to create stories from interview transcripts.

Cdc42 homologous protein (Chp) is a member of the Rho family of small GTPases and shares significant sequence and functional similarity with Cdc42. However, unlike classical Rho GTPases, we recently found that Chp depends on palmitoylation, rather than prenylation, for association with cellular membranes. Because palmitoylation alone is typically not sufficient to promote membrane association, we evaluated the possibility that other carboxy-terminal residues facilitate Chp subcellular association with membranes. We found that Chp membrane association and transforming activity was dependent on the integrity of a stretch of basic amino acids in the carboxy terminus of Chp and that the basic amino acids were not simply part of a palmitoyl acyltransferase recognition motif. We also determined that the 11 carboxy-terminal residues alone were sufficient to promote Chp plasma and endomembrane association. Interestingly, stimulation with tumor necrosis factor-α activated only endomembrane-associated Chp. Finally, we found that Chp membrane association was not disrupted by Rho guanine nucleotide dissociation inhibitory proteins, which are negative regulators of Cdc42 membrane association and biological activity. In summary, the unique carboxy-terminal sequence elements that promote Chp subcellular location and function expand the complexity of mechanisms by which the cellular functions of Rho GTPases are regulated.

Sustainability and sustainable development have been, perhaps, the most debated yet least applied concepts in urban and regional planning in recent years. Missing in all the rhetoric on and research into sustainable development are guidelines for moving toward plans that, either incrementally or comprehensively, incorporate sustainable objectives and the steps necessary to implement them. An approach is outlined for developing measures and steps to transform a traditional community-based comprehensive land use and transportation plan into one incorporating sustainable development objectives and measures. Traditional objectives of comprehensive land use and transportation planning are identified and linked to their sustainability equivalents. Four elements are discussed: land use, transportation, environmental factors, and economic development. A four-step, dynamic process is described for implementing the model and transforming the plan objectives, its implementation, and its measures of success. A tool for strategically assessing the political climate for change is included to assist planners in identifying an acceptable scale of movement toward sustainability. In conclusion, the elements presented provide a strategy and tools for moving forward in adopting sustainability as a local objective for land use and transportation planning.

Surakarta is one of the rapidly growing Indonesian cities. The pressure towards its peripheral area results in ‘in-situ urbanization’ phenomenon of its rural village surroundings. Gentan is one of Surakarta adjacent rural villages that has been undergoing rapid spatial transformation from rural to urban settlement in the last 20 years (1995-2016). This research aims to clarify the spatial transformation in Gentan village through examinations of its spatial elements on higher resolution level; (1) transformation of its street network connectivity, (2) land use pattern, (3) building density, and (4) public facilities and accessibility. Secondary data from satellite imagery and government institution and primary data from field survey were used in this research as sources. From Gentan’s spatial elements observations, this research concluded that this village was transforming into urban settlements by its spatial elements characteristics. Furthermore, this research provides interesting findings by its analysis on the neighborhood level that while Gentan was transforming into urban settlement, its internal connectivity was decreasing, residential uses dominated its land use, the village was dominated by the formal settlement, and the reach distance of its public facilities fluctuated across the time.

The purpose of this article is to develop a methodology for risk analysis by transforming structures. A methodology for risk analysis is proposed by transforming structures based on existing links between the system description through a block diagram, a fault tree, and an event tree. Risk analysis of risk techniques by fault tree and event tree provides an unambiguous relationship between element parameters and parity of equivalent elements describing a system or a subsystem. An example of risk analysis by transforming structures is presented, according to the proposed methodology applicable to risk identification, including transformations between block diagram and fault tree and event tree, as well as variants to determine their risk (at accepted value of damages), according to acceptances made. A methodology has been developed and examples of risk analysis by transformation of structures are shown.

The expression of transforming growth factor-beta and the c-myc proto-oncogene was studied in situ in the chondrocytes of the tibial growth plate of normal chicks and those with avian tibial dyschondroplasia in which the chondrocytes are developmentally arrested in the transitional phase between proliferation and differentiation. This results in an accumulation of unmineralised and avascular cartilage. Dyschondroplastic chicks showed reduced c-myc expression in the transitional chondrocytes but unaltered levels in the proliferating chondrocytes. Transforming growth factor-beta expression was reduced in the transitional chondrocytes of dyschondroplastic chicks. In areas where the lesion was being repaired there was evidence of increased expression of both c-myc protein and transforming growth factor-beta. Addition of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D to the diet, which is known to reduce the incidence of dyschondroplasia, resulted in an increase in c-myc production. These results suggest that both transforming growth factor-beta and the proto-oncogene c-myc may be important elements of the cascade of events that lead to chondrocyte differentiation, hypertrophy and mineralisation.

Анотація:

Analyst and patient occasionally arrive at moments of heightened meaning and aliveness. These moments can be transformative and lead to psychic change in the patient. They give life and arouse hope, and feel “real” in a new way, though often entailing emotional turbulence. Specific internal work must be done by the analyst to allow for and foster these experiences. This involves a kind of mourning process in the analyst that allows for “presence” and “availability” as described by Gabriel Marcel, and for the “at-one-ment” described by Bion. These transforming moments can be viewed in an aesthetic realm, along the lines of Keats’s “Beauty is truth, truth beauty.” This embodies the analytic value of emotional truth. These moments are shared and their emergence is an intersubjective creation. Clinical illustrations show how the internal work of mourning by the analyst through directed introspection allows for presence and availability, and then for shared moments of beauty with the patient.

AbstractRon Moore, creator and producer of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica television series, outlined his proposed show's aesthetic in a manifesto aptly titled “Naturalistic Science Fiction or Taking the Opera out of Space Opera.” The title of this essay took a stand against the science fiction subgenre of space opera, asserting that it was outdated, overdone, and unrealistic. Moore's vision for his series revolutionized iconic elements of classic television space operas. Though Moore resisted the stigma of space opera, his reimagined series holds an inherent “operaticness”—a term first coined by opera scholar Marcia Citron. Battlestar Galactica has many operatic qualities, particularly in its narrative structure, cinematography, characters, and music. After analyzing Galactica's explicit evocations of opera, this article will explore the operatic features of the soundtrack and evaluate the characters intimately tied to the opera by tracing the tropes of gendered opera as outlined by Susan McClary and Catherine Clément. Through a detailed analysis of three episodes, I will demonstrate how Moore successfully constructed a series that relied deeply upon operatic qualities and resonances.

Microstrip filter is used widely in wireless communication area, especially in WLAN. Compared to the conventional manufacturing techniques using lumped element, we can get extremely better characters in high frequency wave band using microstrip lines. ADS2008 (Agilent Advanced Design System 2008) is an excellent software platform for high frequency and high speed EDA manufacturing. In this letter, the modeling of microstrip filter which works at appointed frequency is got by transforming the lumped elements to microstrip elements. Finally, the microstrip filter simulated, optimized by ADS2008.

A porcine aortic coarctation model was used to examine regulation of gene expression in early hypertensive vascular remodeling. Aortic segments were collected proximal (high pressure) and distal (low pressure) to the coarctation after 2 wk of sustained hypertension (mean arterial pressure > 150 mmHg). Porcine 10K oligoarrays used for gene expression profiling of the two regions of aorta revealed downregulation of cytoskeletal and upregulation of extracellular region genes relative to the whole genome. A genomic database search for transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) control elements showed that 19% of the genes that changed expression due to hypertension contained putative TGF-β control elements. Real-time RT-PCR and microarray analysis showed no change in expression of TGF-β1, TGF-β2, TGF-β3, or bone morphogenetic proteins-2 and -4, yet immunohistochemical staining for phosphorylated SMAD2, an indicator of TGF-β signaling, and for phosphorylated SMAD1/5/8, an indicator of signaling through the bone morphogenetic proteins, showed the highest percentage of positively stained cells in the proximal aortic segments of occluded animals. For TGF-β signaling, this increase was significantly different than for sham-operated controls. Western blot analysis showed no difference in total TGF-β1 protein levels with respect to treatment or aortic segment. Immunohistochemistry showed that the protein levels of latency-associated peptide was decreased in proximal segments of occluded animals. Collectively, these results suggest that activation of TGF-β, but not altered expression, may be a major mechanism regulating early hypertensive vascular remodeling.

ABSTRACT Transcriptional regulation by transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) is a complex process which is likely to involve cross talk between different DNA responsive elements and transcription factors to achieve maximal promoter activation and specificity. Here, we describe a concurrent requirement for two discrete responsive elements in the regulation of the c-Jun promoter, one a binding site for a Smad3-Smad4 complex and the other an AP-1 binding site. The two elements are located 120 bp apart in the proximal c-Jun promoter, and each was able to independently bind its corresponding transcription factor complex. The effects of independently mutating each of these elements were nonadditive; disruption of either sequence resulted in complete or severe reductions in TGF-β responsiveness. This simultaneous requirement for two distinct and independent DNA binding elements suggests that Smad and AP-1 complexes function synergistically to mediate TGF-β-induced transcriptional activation of the c-Jun promoter.

Exploratory research that leads to core competencies in Screen Design can vastly streamline the development and implementation of a high throughput screen by providing scientist customers with specific guidelines which capitalize on your robotic strengths. Robotic Hardware architecture should be open to extension, computer-based, reliable, easy to use, and modified on an ongoing basis. Data Management needs to be pervasive and tie together the other components of the infrastructure. The essential ingredients, though, are motivated and well-trained people who will transform the tools of robotics and automation into the infrastructure needed for effective drug discovery.

AbstractInclusively delivering the sustainable development goals (SDGs) remains challenging, particularly in urban areas, where some of the most pressing concerns exist. To achieve the transformative SDG agenda, new methods are required to overcome current deficits in engagement around inclusion and equitable outcomes. Evaluating against theories of governance and inclusion, we test a mixture of digital and physical creative methods abilities to deliver co-designed solutions that influence mobility and road safety planning outcomes in East African cities. Greater inclusion led to improved interactions of citizens with decision makers, and the identification of novel, practical solutions, delivering some elements of transformation. Risks include creative methods being used to co-opt communities to official agendas, and institutional planning norms needing to adapt to respond to a wider range of stakeholders. Overall, where risks are mitigated, we recommend that using Creative Methods could localise SDG delivery, ensuring more equitable and effective outcomes from infrastructure development investments.

Late medieval authors were fascinated by classical literature, by what for all practical purposes functioned as the literary canon for readers and writers of the twelfth through the fourteenth centuries. As made clear by earlier scholarship — which often, however, interpreted medieval reception of classical literature as badly understood — medieval writers did not simply honour or completely authorize their predecessors. Indeed, more comfortable with the idea of tradition than slavish imitators are, medieval poets transformed classical texts in any number of ways, often feeling at liberty to change even critical narrative elements in the process. They did so, apparently, for different purposes, but one of the most interesting, it seems to me, was to explore what writing meant in their own literary circles.

This note showcases ByteDance's innovative business model for its TikTok app, which became one of the most downloaded apps globally. ByteDance used its large and increasingly demanding home market to experiment with creative combinations of business model elements to develop a unique business proposition that positions the TikTok app as a hybrid of social networking and video-sharing. In addition, TikTok benefitted from China's IT strength supported by national high-tech policy to an AI-based recommendation algorithm as a non-location bound resource. TikTok shows that firms from transforming economies can launch successful global products through business model innovation.

Considering the educational importance of dialogue among students, faculty, and professionals, this article examines a computer-mediated communication tool designed to support online learning through conversation. ArtView, developed by Cornell University's Interactive Multimedia Group, allows groups of learners to converse from disparate locations in a shared space while viewing an image that has been pre-loaded by the instructor. An online database provides a ready-reference, allowing the instructor to customize background or contextual information necessary to supplement the online conversations. This article describes and reports the results of user-testing conducted in conjunction with a college course, “Art in the Electronic Age.” Through qualitative techniques, learners compare and contrast their experiences in a face-to-face guided visit and discussion with a computer-mediated viewing and discussion using ArtView. Museums were seen as providing an attractive element of personal choice and an outstanding physical viewing environment. ArtView lacked these elements and tended to homogenize the artworks with its two-dimensional display limitations. However, most students reported levels of satisfaction with the quality and convenience of the computer-mediated communication (CMC) aspects sufficient to make up for the limitations. The article concludes with suggestions on how educators might augment learning by combining the strengths of the online and museum experiences.

The article considers the aspects of transforming the adaptive management of knowledge-intensive enterprises under highly volatile institutional conditions in the current technological order. The initial scientific hypothesis was that the quality and efficiency of enterprises in the medium and long term is a consequence of management system transformation, as a result of using a wide range of digital technologies in the process of implementating preventive management measures aimed at maintaining a certain level of correspondence between the digital environment and the internal capacity of the management system.The structural aspects of the concept of adaptive transformation of the management system of knowledge-intensive enterprises in a highly variable digital environment have been analysed. An algorithm that represents a complete independent system has been proposed in which the order and levels of interconnection between individual subsystems and elements have been determined, with the adaptive transformation process itself as the central link, which is supported by a complex of different subsystems. A methodological approach for implementating a multicomponent process of adaptive management system development has been presented, detailing the various methodological recommendations and developments. The methodological techniques used for the indicative assessment of the level of efficiency of the management system of knowledge-intensive enterprises have been outlined.An independent and unified digital management environment for knowledge-intensive enterprises enables real-time analysis of business processes in order to make timely, high-quality and effective decisions in the following key areas: investment and financial activities; enterprise knowledge and personnel management; production and technical management; logistics, operations and disposal. The article offers methodological recommendations on the reengineering of business processes in knowledge-intensive enterprises in a new technological mode.

Transforming growth factor alpha (TGF-alpha) is a pleuripotential cytokine with diverse biological effects, including the ability to influence the proliferation of normal cells or neoplastic epithelial cells. Eosinophils are a subset of granulocytes that normally enter the peripheral tissues, particularly those beneath gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital epithelium, where they reside in close proximity to the epithelial elements. In this study, we demonstrate that the great majority of eosinophils infiltrating the interstitial tissues adjacent to two colonic adenocarcinomas and two oral squamous cell carcinomas labeled specifically by in situ hybridization with a 35S-riboprobe for human TGF-alpha (hTGF-alpha). No other identifiable leukocytes in these lesions contained detectable hTGF-alpha mRNA. We also examined leukocytes purified from a patient with the idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome. 80% of these eosinophils, but none of the patient's neutrophils or mononuclear cells, were positive for hTGF-alpha mRNA by in situ hybridization, and 55% of these eosinophils were positive by immunohistochemistry with a monoclonal antibody directed against the COOH terminus of the mature hTGF-alpha peptide. Finally, the identification of the purified eosinophil-associated transcript as hTGF-alpha was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction product restriction enzyme analysis followed by Southern blot hybridization. In contrast to eosinophils from the patient with hypereosinophilic syndrome, the peripheral blood eosinophils from only two of seven normal donors had detectable TGF-alpha mRNA and none of these eosinophils contained immunohistochemically detectable TGF-alpha product. Taken together, these findings establish that human eosinophils can express TGF-alpha, but suggest that the expression of TGF-alpha by eosinophils may be under microenvironmental regulation. Demonstration of TGF-alpha production by tissue-infiltrating eosinophils and the eosinophils in the hypereosinophilic syndrome identifies a novel mechanism by which eosinophils might contribute to physiological, immunological, and pathological responses.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyse institutional and functional development of a library with the help of communication theories. The library as a social institution should have a quite strong position in today’s information society, but new ways of information search have made its position unstable. Thus, a library needs theoretical and cultural-political comprehension and reassessment. The paper tries to answer the questions as to how a library can satisfy the needs of modern society and which strategy of library communication will be in demand tomorrow. Design/methodology/approach – The theoretical background is represented by communication theories of Marshal McLuhan, Denis McQuail and Yuri Lotman, as well as Michel Foucault’s concepts of disciplinary power and governmentality. Findings – The analysis revealed that library–user communication is based primarily on power relations, where “access” is the main keyword. The article brought out differences in library communicative processes in the “Gutenberg Galaxy” and today’s global network society, “Zuckerberg Era”. The analysis showed that library–user relationship is shifting from disciplinary power and monologue to the governmentality and new communicative forms, dialogue and participation. Research limitations/implications – The study demonstrates the possibility of implication of communication theories for library functional analysis. The new studies investigating which methods and forms of communication do libraries use today, how are the elements of power relations transforming would be very useful for the understanding of the topic. Practical implications – The study proposes to libraries some ideas that may be useful for developing the library communication strategy. Originality/value – This study, based on the communicative approach, corresponds well to library phenomenon and nature, as well as allows for reflection on the role of libraries in the society of today and future.

The importance of studying the problem of transforming the marketing mix into e-business is associated with the need to study the process of transforming marketing itself, since the active involvement of business organizations in e-business is often accompanied by problems when using conventional marketing tools in a virtual environment. This article identifies changes in the elements of the marketing mix in the e-commerce environment in accordance with the trends in the development of e-business and Internet technologies, and also demonstrates the influence of the electronic space on traditional marketing mix strategies. An innovative approach to exploring this problem is an electronic marketing model that allows changes to be structured in a complex set of marketing tools in order to demonstrate the impact of improved strategic approach. The aim of the study is to identify the area of transformation of the marketing mix in e-commerce. The relevance of the study is manifested in the need to develop marketing strategies, identify the most important elements of the marketing mix, assess the effectiveness of marketing and optimize marketing costs by organizations operating in an electronic environment. Research results. Electronic marketing has permeated the business world all over the place. The e-marketing mix, which had a significant impact on the elements of the traditional marketing mix, has also expanded the elements of the mix, adding new ones that are unique in terms of the critical role of technology and the provision of supporting information to consumers.

ABSTRACT The human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) infects and transforms CD4+ lymphocytes and causes adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), an aggressive lymphoproliferative disease that is often fatal. Here, we demonstrate that the HTLV-1 pX splice-variant p30II markedly enhances the transforming potential of Myc and transcriptionally activates the human cyclin D2 promoter, dependent upon its conserved Myc-responsive E-box enhancer elements, which are associated with increased S-phase entry and multinucleation. Enhancement of c-Myc transforming activity by HTLV-1 p30II is dependent upon the transcriptional coactivators, transforming transcriptional activator protein/p434 and TIP60, and it requires TIP60 histone acetyltransferase (HAT) activity and correlates with the stabilization of HTLV-1 p30II/Myc-TIP60 chromatin-remodeling complexes. The p30II oncoprotein colocalizes and coimmunoprecipitates with Myc-TIP60 complexes in cultured HTLV-1-infected ATLL patient lymphocytes. Amino acid residues 99 to 154 within HTLV-1 p30II interact with the TIP60 HAT, and p30II transcriptionally activates numerous cellular genes in a TIP60-dependent or TIP60-independent manner, as determined by microarray gene expression analyses. Importantly, these results suggest that p30II functions as a novel retroviral modulator of Myc-TIP60-transforming interactions that may contribute to adult T-cell leukemogenesis.

AbstractThis article draws on La Via Campesina's definition of food sovereignty and its potential for reconceptualising food as a basic human right within the dominant Australian food discourse. We argue that the educative value that emerges from urban food production in Australia stems from the action of growing food and its capacity to transform individuals’ social and environmental concerns over food systems. Community participation in urban food production can promote a learning process that generates political understanding and concerns over food systems. We use the education theories of transformative learning and critical consciousness to discuss how Australian urban food production systems can create this social and environmental support for alternative food systems. By having control over food production practices and building collective understandings of how food choices impact global food systems, elements of food sovereignty can develop in an Australian urban context.
