PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to report on the reflective identity work of a white female chartered accountant, scholar and academic manager, regarding the intersectional transformations of gender and race as well as leadership within the South African accounting profession over four decades.Design/methodology/approachThe theoretical lens of intersectionality is applied through an autoethnographic approach. Multiple layers of personal experiences and observations are interpreted through identity work of leadership provided and received. Autoethnographic data are substantiated and contextualised through the researchers’ sense-making, official and scholarly sources.FindingsSustainable transformation of the accounting profession requires a deepened understanding of the interconnections of the personal, structural and systemic areas within unique contexts. Leadership, as provided and received, must be included within the intersectional orientations. Intersectional orientations become then more significant for understanding progressive changes of the demographic profile of the accounting profession not only in South Africa but also in other countries. The transformation interventions aimed at affirming high-quality black African, coloured and female candidates to the South African accounting profession are founded on the principles of social justice. A sustained reframing of the demographic profile of a profession is possible through accelerated and well-funded collaborative transformation interventions enhancing intentional structural changes of the membership pipeline.Research limitations/implicationsThe possible limitations of this study lie in the contextual nature of the material and findings and the lens of the specific theory.Practical implicationsThe understanding of the practice of interventions aiming at transforming the country-specific demographic profile of a scarce skills profession such as the accountancy profession.Originality/valueThe originality of this paper lies in the application of an intersectional theoretical lens that argues for leadership as a dimension alongside age, gender and race in an autoethnographic sense making of the transformation of the South African accounting profession.

AbstractWhere does the legal profession’s identity originate from? How do we explain the intra-professional variations, as multiple legal professions diverge in their political orientations? This paper argues that the legal profession critically develops their core identity resisting incumbent rule when the state undergoes fundamental power reconfiguration. It is their political position as opposed to power in a critical juncture of state transformation that determines the legal profession’s collective ideal of who they are and what actions they take. Drawing on 133 interviews with Taiwanese judges, lawyers, and prosecutors, extensive fieldwork, and archival data up to the 1990s, this paper demonstrates how democratization shapes professional identity. As respective professions experienced different levels and models of authoritarian containment, they took separate trajectories to challenge the Kuomintang’s party-state and pledge to different normative commitments. Taiwanese judges categorically defend judicial independence, lawyers advocate for people’s rights, and prosecutors marshal under justice to check abuse of power.

The purpose of this paper is to conduct an analysis of the chartered accountancy profession sector charter with other sector charters. This is to ascertain if the chartered accountancy profession charter is a workable strategy to address economic transformation within the accountancy profession in South Africa. Desktop research method was used for this paper. Content analysis was used to analyze the chartered accountancy profession’s charters with the aim to ascertain if it is a workable strategy when compared with other sector charters to address the limitation of growth of black people in the chartered accountancy profession. The analysis of the selected sector charters shows that the chartered accountancy sector is committed to economic empowerment in South Africa. This sector has, however, set aggressive targets on employment equity and skills development when compared with the financial and construction sectors. This analysis and comparison is useful in guiding the stakeholders within the accountancy profession in their vision to accelerate the transformation process within the profession. Furthermore, it is hoped that this paper will stimulate substantive discussions around economic transformation strategy designed by government and business to redress economic inequality in South Africa. The author examines the vectors for bibliographer profession within the professional infrastructure of digital economy. The need for interdisciplinary study of staffing in bibliography is substantiated, and the author’s approach is introduced. The predictive vectors for the bibliographer profession are discussed. The factors of bibliography professionalization are specified. The competence transformation and profession prospects due to digitalization are identified. The author applies her own methods to analyze information profession: the methods have been introduced in her preceding works. She investigates into the nature of socially transforming bibliographic activities, their limits, and interaction with other professions. Criteria of structural and functional stability of the profession, mechanisms and dynamics in the social professional structure are revealed. The author dissects and analyzes the concept of “digital bibliographer” as the new profession model. The tasks for bibliography on the stage of artificial intellect ideology integration are specified. Changing limits of the profession due to the bibliographical method universality are discussed.

The public and brutal death of Black American George Floyd was a tragedy that had the potential to push the profession of nursing toward a perspective transformation. A summative content analysis of 49 professional nursing organization statements served as a pilot to explore the research question: Did the nursing profession experience a perspective transformation relating to racial justice and health equity following the death of George Floyd? Texts from the statements were analyzed for the presence of an equity lens, which is necessary for a perspective transformation. Each statement was assigned a rating score to determine the organization's readiness for a perspective transformation based on equity competencies adapted from CommonHealth Action. Findings demonstrated that the nursing profession is beginning to articulate the issue of racism in health care and is committed to advocating for patients of color; however, further understanding of the historical context of structural racism and the development of meaningful policy remains necessary for the profession to experience a perspective transformation.

The problem of technological unemployment in the context of large-scale digital transformation of society is contemplated. The prospects for digitizing legal profession are emphasized. The authors analyse the digital transformation of jurisprudence in two ways: from the standpoint of possible replacement of human labor with machine labor and from the standpoint of introducing of new digital technologies into legal profession (LegalTech). The prospects of the withering away of the legal profession in the digital age are reckoned up as sceptical ones. The authors conclude that digitalization causes qualitative modification of the legal profession, related to changes in content and forms of organization of professional legal activity.

Subject. Medical activity by virtue of its specifics requires profound professional self-determination of a specialist, motivation for constant self-improvement in the profession and high professional moral culture. Mastering and further process of self-realization of a specialist in the profession is continuous and carried out throughout the professional life of the doctor. Objectives. Determining the nature of the changes in factors affecting the professional choice of the student in the learning process. Results. The answers to questions of the questionnaire of students during their studies at first in the third year and then in the fifth are analyzed. The transformation of motivating factors in the learning process is noted. As the profession develops, fewer students experience difficulties in mastering knowledge and skills. Doubting the correctness of the choice of profession, students have difficulties in dealing with strangers, and 88,9 % of students experience learning difficulties. There is an increase in interest in research work from 3,3 % in the third year, to 10,5 % in the fifth. To determine how much the students feel prepared for the forthcoming work activity, it was suggested to evaluate their theoretical knowledge, practical skills and psychological readiness on a five-point scale. On average, more than half of the students (60,5-71 %) consider themselves prepared "well" (4) in all three areas. Conclusions 1. Students of the dental faculty in overwhelming majority of cases took the opinion of parents into accountwhen entering a higher medical educational institution. 2. Advanced acquaintance with the profession promotes the growth of interest in the chosen specialty. 3. The formation of confidence in the choice of a profession is influenced by the organization of the practical part of the class. 4. At the final stage of vocational training 94,7 % of students expressed a desire to work in the specialty. There is an increase in the interest in professional activities from 86,6 % in the third year to 94,7 % in the fifth year.

The Dr Elizabeth Casson Memorial Lecture 2018, given on June 12th 2018 at the 42nd Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, held at the Belfast Waterfront, Belfast, UK. This lecture aims to set out the potential for the global occupational therapy profession to exchange knowledge for social transformation practice. It identifies the profession’s concern with narratives as a vehicle for a socially critical approach to occupation, which can be used to negotiate intervention and action. Drawing on examples from literature, history and service users, the paper suggests that narrative provides a means for relating the value of occupation beyond professional boundaries to capture popular imagination and demand for the profession. Examples are given of the critical discussion of the everyday impact of health inequity, and in addressing diversity both in the profession and engaging service users. My lecture concludes that occupational therapy is a global network with the population of a city, and thus represents a community that can be a vibrant voice for social transformation through occupation through a reciprocal exchange of narrative. This is a collective and dialogical process which can draw on the experiences of both southern and northern hemispheres.

This study explores how to be a teacher of holistic profession from a perspective of transformative learning. Cultivating holistic profession in transformative learning involves the process of changes in communicative and instructional learning, the process of learning practical experience, and the process of critical reflection. These transformative learning processes contribute to the construction of teachers’ holistic profession contextually. The rationales of applying a perspective of transformative learning concentrate on three major reasons. Cultivating teachers’ profession as one type of adult learning is the core subject of transformative learning. Development serves as core idea of teachers’ holistic professional consciousness. The learning transformation occurred from semi-profession to holistic profession. In this sense, the transformative learning model for teachers’ profession is initially proposed to identify a special lens to shape an explicit pathway of being a teacher of holistic profession. In this model, transformative learning involves identifying “learning being professional”. Transformative relationship focuses on “teaching being professional”. Transformative context view concentrates on contenting being professional. Transformative context view involves contenting being professional. The conclusion and remarks are offered to summarize the rewards of being a teacher of holistic profession.

The paper concludes with several themes around which practitioners are encouraged to reflect upon the profession, and their own practices, with the view to considering how best to develop pro-active responses in their own organisational and workplace circumstances.

AbstractSociology of the professions has faced difficulties in delineating and defining the core of its object of study, the concept and phenomenon of profession. Setting out from the so-called French epistemological tradition, this article tries out a new possibility. It is argued that if there are trans-historical elements in professions, they are found at the cognitive side, as a certain reasonably invariant cognitive structure. The structure implies that a specific type of (scientific) knowledge can be coupled with professional practice, that is, know-why is linked to know-how. This is what the notion of profession primarily should be based on. Science, profession, and “object” together constitute a “truth-regime” in Foucault’s sense. On the other hand, the social side of professions is historically variable. Indeed, the social attributes of a profession changes with social transformations and external interests, with its position in Bourdeauian professional fields, and with its relations in “the professional complex.” The article concludes with a suggestion for a new definition of professions.

Context: As athletic training continues to evolve as a profession, several epistemological considerations must be considered. These include how we generate professional knowledge and how we secure and legitimize it in both professional and public spheres. Objective: The purpose of this commentary is to provide an overview of how athletic training has defined its body of knowledge. By contrasting our professional knowledge with recent advancements in medical cognition and epistemology, we aim to provide a more robust definition of professional knowledge for our profession. Background: A profession is defined as an occupation that has a unique knowledge base and skill set that, when wielded, fulfills an ethically founded social contract with the public. One of the greatest challenges for the profession of athletic training as we move into the future is securing a knowledge base that is uniquely our own. Synthesis: In this commentary, we synthesize the process by which we secure our body of knowledge through the Role Delineation Study with emerging trends on the nature of professional knowledge from the medical and health care literature. Results: Based on the evidence presented, we propose a new definition for professional knowledge in the context of athletic training: Information that is purposefully linked together to develop the ability to explain and predict the clinical phenomena associated with the profession's social contract. Recommendation(s): As this new epistemological definition holds the potential to better structure and guide the athletic training's professional transformation, including its professional education processes, we recommend this model be considered for adoption and implementation. Conclusion(s): It is apparent that a new construct for professional knowledge, one capable of supporting the profession's infrastructure and intentions, is needed for athletic training. In addition, and crucial to the formation of our professional body's construction of knowledge, is a need for collecting multivariable outcomes concerning our ability to legitimize it.

The study made by the Federation of Industries from Rio de Janeiro – FIRJAN pointed the growth of the Public Relations profession in Brazil between 2015 and 2017 years associated to the concern in organizations with the understanding by the consumers in the promotion and maintenance of the image (FIRJAN, 2019). The hiring of this kind of professional may be recognized as an intellectual investment cost to the organizations (Bolaño, 2002), reflecting directly in the formal labor activity. The study is reflexive to the Public Relations. First, because it says that the growth of the formal labor in Public Relations is connected to the impact in the digitization and experience value of the consumer. It implies in the graduation and qualification of the professionals inside the market. Second, because it takes to discuss the intense structural transformation of the profession: structural; if it is realized the changes in the position of the profession in economic activities and, consequently, in form of constitution of the profession while a know-how technique; intense, if it can be analyzed in time and in the quantity of formal labor constituted by the profession in Brazil. From these elements, the present research broadens the labor analysis in Public Relations. The methodologic approach made in this investigation used the qualitative and quantitative procedures. Qualitative, by the bibliographic review to build the theoretical framework about a paper for and in the economic system, as the occupation particularities of the Public Relations and the recent transformations. Quantitative, the research shows the view of the formal labor of the public relations through de Annual Relation of Social Information from Economic Ministry (Brazil), in a time analysis from 2013 to 2018. It was specifically analyzed the occupation of the Public Relations inside the National Classification of the Economic Activities (CNAE), while there is formal labor in public and private organizations. The study discussions point to a more specific view to quantity, the sectors of actuation, the salary dimension and the possibility to realize some transformation in the professional act in the economy of Brazil. Among 2013 and 2018 almost two thousand jobs were created in the area. In 2013, five sectors corresponded 53% of the occupations (1. Industry of transformation; 2. Administrative activities; 3. Technical and scientific activities; 4. Business and vehicles reparation; 5. Public administration). In 2018, one more time, five sectors corresponded 54% of the occupations (1. Technical and scientific activities; 2. Education; 3. Industry of transformation; 4. Administrative activities; and 5. Other service activities). By the organization side, it was realized that the number public relations bonds are an allocation of the professional sources with the capacity to comprehend and use knowledge pro the organizations. However, this knowledge was not implied in the sectors which generate material products constituted after a process of factory transformation, as it was spread in the conception in the labor value since XVIII and XIX centuries. The growth in number of jobs was in a sector which the final product did not constitute in a material physical good, but in services which effort the ampliation in the competitivity and conflict resolution generated in (re) production in economy. The public relation professional is, as a fact, part of a group intelligence in service of capitalist accumulation (Bolaño, 2002). The collected data corroborate to the perception of the professional in the broadening of the competitivity and in the resolution of conflicts generated in the (re) production of the economies.

This article explores the secularization of the American historical profession through the lens of an early twentieth-century historical controversy: the debunking of the legend that nineteenth-century missionary Marcus Whitman saved the Pacific Northwest from becoming a British possession. The Whitman controversy was a key skirmish in an ongoing, and still unresolved, debate about what constitutes right practices and ideations of history in the American academy, what counts as undue historical bias, and what place (if any) appeals to religion should have in academic historical discourse. Through the Whitman debate and other early twentieth-century historical battles, Protestant providential narratives of history were purged from academic textbooks and providential historians marginalized from the academy. Taking a cue from the evolutionary schemas of religious studies scholars, professional historians cast tales like the Whitman legend—and the providential narratives that undergirded them—as primitive myths unfit for a modernizing society. The Whitman controversy thus serves as a case study into the American historical profession's transformation at the turn of the twentieth century, a transformation that remains contested and incomplete.

The peculiarities of the future accounting development in both theoretical and practical terms, which will logically automate most processes for all market participants are identified in this paper. The main trends in the accounting development, its demand and further development in the direction of professional competencies extension are information technology, intellectual analysis, communication skills and opportunities to promote business accounting services in social networks. It is determined that the content of the profession «accountant» should be qualitatively transformed, resulting in digital technologies strengthening for the medium term in accounting processes making it possible to take the profession to a new level. It is determined that in the context of accounting digitalization, the accountant is the best specialist who can give useful advice before making important management decisions. Due to the cloud accounting software, modern accountants can easily access previous credentials for quick and in-depth analysis facilitating speedy business decisions. It is investigated that the concepts of «accounting digitalization» and «digital accounting transformation» should to be somewhat distinguished, as the first term is a process associated with the change of certain elements related to accounting communication preceding the digital transformation of accounting as a system. At present, the accounting digitalization enables business owners and their accountants to perform functional tasks faster and more accurately, as well as to interpret and compile financial statements more effectively. Hence, business owners can focus on their strategic goals and solve complex tasks, such as ensuring effective cash flow management. The advantages of the accounting system digitalization are defined, the methods of accounting procedures using digital technologies are investigated in this paper. In general, the accounting system under modern development conditions is forced to record possible changes in the economy and respond to them quickly, developing in collaboration with the main functions of the management system of market participants.

This article discusses and analyzes the recently widespread opinion about the future futility of the accounting profession. Indeed, new technologies contribute to a change in the organization of accounting work and the role of accountants in business management, which necessitates the search and substantiation of optimal ways and adequate forms of professional activity of accountants in the context of rationalization and increasing digitalization of management. Nevertheless, the scientifi c accounting community continues to defend the opinion that there are currently no real prerequisites for the disappearance of the accounting profession, as well as a tangible decrease in the demand for accountants in the labor market.

The pedagogical model of the developing of value orientations of students in the context of Internet socialization is presented. The content of the cognitive component includes values-relationships (with the professional Internet community) and values-knowledge (of digital tech-nologies of professional activity and knowledge of the functional capabilities of the Internet envi-ronment for executing professional tasks), which determine the significance of professional Inter-net environment for students (the semantic component of the profession in conditions of Internet socialization and the instability of the world of professions). The emotional component represented by values-goals (the desire to achieve a high level of realization of professional needs in the Internet environment and confidence in self-realization in the future world of professions) and values-results (Internet socialization in the professional environment, satisfaction in achieving professional needs) indicate the satisfaction of students’ needs in the professional Internet envi-ronment. The behavioral component is based on values-qualities (quick professional adaptation and self-adaptation in the changing world of professions using the functionality of the Internet en-vironment) and values-skills (using Internet technologies and realizing oneself in the profession), which allow analyzing the individual’s desire for realization in the professional sphere. On the ba-sis of the identified components, the corresponding criteria for assessing the professional and value orientations of students in the conditions of internet socialization are justified. In addition, the proposed elements of professional and value orientations that are most sensitive to transformation in this context are identified.

The article is devoted to the changes in the profession of accountant and accounting in the process of digitalization of the agricultural economy. The concept of digitalization of the economy is revealed, its directions in the agricultural sector are determined. The necessity of creating a single information space of an agricultural enterprise that promotes the interaction of structural units is considered. The priority role of accounting in the formation of the information base and in the creation of an analytical platform for the digitalization of the agro-industrial complex is highlighted. The robotic system as a tool of the digital economy is presented. The stages of accounting robotization are revealed: organizational and informational, robotic data processing, reporting and analytical, account management. The characteristic of each stage is given. A scheme of the movement of information in a robotic accounting system is proposed. The prerequisites for accounting robots that have developed in the current period and are necessary for future formation are outlined. The transformation of the profession of an accountant in the digital economy into an account manager is defined and its role in the digitalization of agriculture is highlighted.

The article focuses on the problems of social realization of professional. It was considered the possible options of violations of the process of social adaptation of professionals to new conditions, in particular, professional marginality as the collapse and transformation of the professional identity. It was found that it fully applies to future professionals, that is, students who during studying in high school need to learn a profession , ie receive professional knowledge and skills, and in addition, to create a sense of belonging to the norms of the profession and to recognize its social significance.Was shown the results of empirical research of the relationship of professional marginality of graduates to indicators of professional individual demand. Based on the results of correlation analysis of indicators of professional identity / marginality with scales techniques "Professional demand for identity," proved that the productivity, effectiveness, efficiency in chosen profession, mainly associated by university graduates with awareness of their competence, of professional training, instrumental "armament" in the profession. At the same time, opportunities for advancement in career and professional growth, the acquisition of a higher social status is determined by the socio-economic condition of society, by the status and prestige of the profession in society, attention to the experts a certain profile of the state, the existence of support including the official state level.

At the same time the nursing profession itself has experienced unprecedented development in terms of changing roles and expanded practice. While the growth of professional is ongoing there are many challenges to this in terms of staffing shortages, an aging workforce and changing illness trajectories. While a committed workforce, nurses are challenged to maintain quality standards in the context of these challenges.Aim. This paper explores the responses and responsibilities required of the profession to face ongoing changes in medicine, health and society as well as policy and professional changes. The leadership required to successfully steer and negotiate this ongoing transformation will be discussed.

Litigation has not been a significant strategy in Taiwan for challenging injustice due to the use of the Civil Law tradition as a model for the Republic of China legal system and the diminished autonomy of the ROC legal profession and legal system under martial law and authoritarian rule. Individual lawyers, however, were among the leading proponents of reform during Taiwan's recent transition to democratic rule. Furthermore, one of the significant liberalizing reforms ushered in by the democratic transition has been the reform of the ROC legal profession. We examine the contribution of some lawyers to democratization and consider what role the reconstituted ROC legal profession may play in the political economy of Taiwan in the future.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a leading technology in the digital transformation. AI is expected to cause job losses in general, initially in professions associated with routine activities, and subsequently in the field of creative professions. The present article analysed the results of the authors’ own empirical sociological survey of the attitude of Bulgarian translators towards AI, and the ways in which it will change their profession. Most of them perceive artificial intelligence and automatization as threats to the profession. According to them, digital technologies and AI will modify the profession by relieving human translators of the routine, technical part of the job. Hence, translators will predominantly edit machine-translated texts, and teach artificial intelligence to perform machine translation. The conclusion of the analysis demonstrates that, in the case of Bulgarian translators, such pessimistic scenarios about mass jobs destruction are not justified. In addition, expectations of a deterioration in quality of work as a result of digitalization in the near future are not justified in the case of the translating profession. The present survey results serve as a basis for further research about the impact of artificial intelligence on other creative professions.

Through an ethnographic study of nurses’ experiences of work intensification, this article shows how nurses respond to and act upon neoliberal transformations of work. The article identifies and explores those transformations considered by the informants, nurses working in public sector hospital wards, as central to changing conditions of work and experiences of work intensifications. It further analyzes nurses’ responses toward these transformations and locates these responses within a particular form of femininity evolving from rationalities of care, nurses’ conditions within the organization, and classed and gendered experiences of care work. The article illustrates that in times of neoliberal change and public sector resource depletion, nurses respond to women’s traditional caring responsibilities as well as to professional commitments and cover for the organization. Maintaining the level of frontline service is contingent on increased exploitation and performance control of ward nurses, and their ability and willingness to sacrifice their own time and health for the sake of their patients. The article argues that in the case of ward nurses in the Swedish public sector, work intensification is a multilayered process propelled by three intersecting forces: austerity ideology linked to the neoliberal transformation of the welfare state and public sector retrenchment; explicit care rationalities impelled by aspirations of the nursing profession to establish, render visible, and expand the nursing field both in relation to the medical profession and in relation to so-called unskilled care work performed by assistant nurses and auxiliaries; and the progressive aspect of New Public Management, which challenges the power and authority of the professions and contributes to strengthening the positions of clients and patients.

The analyses are based on teachers’ memoirs and autobiographical narratives that have been collected as a result of subsequent editions of research conducted between 1989 and 2016. These narratives show the problems, tensions and transformations in education, and in the role of a teacher in Poland over the past 30 years. Changes seen through the eyes of successive generations of teachers, against the background of their life history and professional experiences and achievements, are a record of the changes that took place during the system transformation. They may be the evidence of an inevitable generational change in the teaching profession and teacher community. Research shows that the generation born in the 1950s and 1960s, involved in the democratic changes in Poland at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, is leaving the teaching profession. This generation participated in the “Solidarity” social movement. Its members were brought up and educated in the sense of a strong social commitment, the so-called ethos. Currently, young teachers born in the 1990s and later enter the profession. They belong to the generation of free, democratic Poland, which has a more pragmatic attitude to life and professional work in education. This is the generation of the internet, unlimited choice, and open global access to information and goods. The implications of such findings are discussed in the article.

Subject. This article discusses the formation of the content of professional competencies of accountants and the main aspects of the transformation of the accounting profession in the conditions of Industry 4.0, namely educational, methodological, and technological. Objectives. The article aims to assess the possibilities of forming professional competencies of students in educational programmes of higher education of accounting and analytical orientation, taking into account the trends in the digital development of the country's economy. The article also aims to substantiate the need to adapt educational programmes of an accounting orientation to the requirements of the digital economy. Methods. For the study, I used the methods of information gathering, analysis and synthesis, and modeling in practice. Results. Based on a review of modern research in the field of training accountants in higher educational institutions of Russia and English-speaking countries, taking into account the trends in the digital development of society, the article identifies the risks and advantages of the accounting profession prospects in the context of the mass adoption of information technologies in the country's economy. The article also defines the directions of transformation of the accounting profession in Industry 4.0 and the possibility of orienting the content of professional tasks to the formation of digital competencies. Conclusions and Relevance. It is necessary to adapt the educational programmes for the training of accountants in higher education institutions to the requirements of the digital economy in order to bring their content closer to the interests of employers. Employers will be able to get graduates who have both profession competencies and a complex of digital knowledge, skills and abilities. The results of the study can be used to develop an approach to integrating the necessary digital knowledge, skills and abilities into the content of the tasks of professional activity, work programmes of disciplines, etc.

This study investigates the impact of digitalization on the photojournalistic profession and its transformation during the last two decades. The development of digital technology and the Internet by the end of the 20th century has brought several questions to the field of photojournalism and impacted the entire process of photojournalistic material production. Taking the example of the Czech Republic, we examine how photojournalists and photo editors perceive the changes brought on by the adoption of digital technology and how news routines, photojournalistic practices, image content, and professional identity have been reshaped. We conducted in-depth interviews and surveys with 48 photojournalists and photo editors from different Czech news media and magazines. The findings show how Czech photojournalists evaluate the state of their profession after digitalization. We also discuss a new way of image taking, so-called ‘cinematic shooting’, the ‘myth of acceleration’, and new responsibilities laid upon visual news professionals.

The business economy experienced major changes during the last three decades. The social and economic globalization associated with the fourth revolution put the accounting profession under great pressure toward harmonization and convergence. Still, the route to become a qualified professional accountant varies from country to country all over the world. This paper seeks to understand the evolution of the accounting profession in Brazil and focus on the interaction between higher education institutions (HEIs) and professional bodies, in the context of digital transformation. It is an exploratory study. A survey questionnaire was used to collect data about the perception of the directors of first-degree programs regarding the autonomy of HEIs in defining the curricular contents intended to qualify accounting professionals. The findings show that HEIs are highly influenced by the professional order and Ministry of Education. The limitation associated with this research is that it focusses on one particular professional group in one country.

World economic output had the most significant drop in over 75 years and affected people's daily routines in almost every country. However, the same disruptive forces of the pandemic accelerated the digital transformation and innovation, causing business practices in the accounting profession to leapfrog decades ahead. Those who want to know anything about strike action by Italian nurses will find very little written about it. This contribution intends to show that, whatever they are prepared to admit, Italian nurses are not used to strike action because they mostly think of their profession as a form of mission. Even if we could agree with the idea of nursing as a profession subscribing to an ideal of service, we have to distinguish between a real profession and philanthropic work; vocational motivation is not enough to make a good professional. Historically, nurses perceived strikes as contradictory to human need and action; patients must never be left alone. However, Italian nurses are now interested in a dramatic transformation of many aspects of their professional life, becoming conscious of the duty to protect themselves from every kind of exploitation, even if the typical idealism and dedication of nurses makes them vulnerable.

<p>Being professional barbers from Garut—known as ASGAR, short for Asli Garut, which means ‘of Garut origin’—has been the main source of income for most men residing in Kampung Peundeuy, Banyuresmi Village, Garut Regency, West Java. The profession is considered so successful in providing financial welfare for the villagers and improving their social status that many of the residents decide to leave the village to expand their business elsewhere, especially in Jakarta and other big cities in West Java. This<br />phenomenon has intensified since the 2000s until the residents finally dub Kampung Peundeuy as a “barber village” in West Java. In order to preserve their hometown’s reputation as a “barber village”, the residents feel the need to preserve and pass on their shaving and hairdressing skills to their relatives and children. As a result, what was once only a common profession now has been considered as part of the village’s tradition. Furthermore, the barber profession has spurred various changes in Kampung Peundeuy, including their livelihood, cultural identity, and social life. Therefore, in order<br />to examine the relationship between barber as a profession dan village transformation, the research attempted to answer these two questions: (1) How did the profession became a tradition among Kampung Peundeuy’s residents? and (2) How has the barber profession stimulated the transformation of the village? This research incorporated thoughts proposed by Koentjaraningrat (1981) who studied community problems, by Luji (2020) who examined profession as a form of culture, and McGee (2001 &amp; 2008) who proposed the theory of semi-urbanization. This study applied the qualitative method, which included the ethnographic method, non-participatory observation, and interviews to collect data. This study is in line with Luji’s (2020) finding that the tradition of becoming barbers was produced and consumed by the residents of Kampung Peundeuy for years<br />by means of power relation among family members. Families encouraged their male members (parents, husbands, sons, or sons-in-law) to become barbers because the job is considered profitable. Moreover, further changes do not occur naturally but are spurred by semi-urbanization when residents carry their profession to big cities. Semiurbanization (McGee 2008) encourages the phenomenon of desakota (literally “urbanvillage”)<br />which describes the influence of urban lifestyle on Kampung Peundeuy. Thus, it can be concluded that the barber profession influences the transformation of Kampung Peundeuy, and this can occur due to the strong encouragement among its residents to both pass down the hairdressing skills to the next generation and to enter the profession.</p>

In Poland before the Second World War, the profession of patent attorney was categorised as one of the so-called liberal professions. Its legal status and rules of practice were compared to the solicitor profession. A patent attorney practiced his profession personally, independently, and autonomously. In order to exercise his profession, he ran an independent patent attorney’s office. In the second half of the 1940s, with the communists taking power in Poland, a radical transformation of the social, political, economic, and legal system of the state along the lines of Stalin’s Soviet Union began. Any social, political, or economic activities characterised by independence and autonomy were thus in axiological contradiction with the ideology of the planned totalitarian state. The Act on the Establishment of the College of Patent Attorneys passed on 20 December 1949 completely abolished the structure of the patent attorney profession as a free profession, exercised in its own name and on its own account. From that moment on, the patent attorney became a civil servant performing their professional activities under strict hierarchical subordination to his superiors. There was no guarantee of their intellectual independence or professional autonomy. The practice of the patent attorney profession was subject to public law. The Patent Attorneys College was in fact another state office. It was organisationally and financially linked to the Patent Office — an administrative body granting legal protection to objects of industrial and commercial property, collecting and making available patent documentation and literature. The president of the Patent Office supervised the Patent Attorneys College. Both the Patent Attorneys College and the Patent Office were supervised by the State Economic Planning Commission. The State Commission for Economic Planning was a kind of super-ministry, tasked with a Soviet-style mission of closely supervising and controlling the entire centralised economy of the Polish state. The chairman of the State Economic Planning Commission also had key powers to influence patent attorneys. It was he who determined the subject of their professional examination, he who appointed a person meeting the statutory requirements to the position of a patent attorney. He could also exempt a candidate for the profession from meeting the requirements as well as appoint the president of the Patent Attorneys College. The Act of 20 December 1949 was repealed with the end of the Stalinist period in Poland. In 1958, the profession of patent attorney was briefly reinstated as a free profession. After that, until the end of the existence of the socialist state called the Polish People’s Republic, patent attorneys performed their profession as employees within the meaning of the labour law. It was not until the fall of communism in Poland that the profession of a patent attorney was re-established as a liberal profession under the provisions of the Act on Patent Attorneys of 9 January 1993.

Background. Given the sociopolitical roots of widening occupational, social, and health inequities, it is imperative that occupational therapy move forward in mobilizing occupation for social transformation. Purpose. Three key aims are addressed: articulating the imperative to mobilize occupation for social transformation; highlighting the political nature of occupation and occupational therapy; and providing guideposts for embracing a radical sensibility to inform moving forward in mobilizing occupation for social transformation. Key issues. Conditions of possibility within occupational therapy leave the profession ill equipped to enact social transformation. Enacting calls to mobilize occupation for social transformation requires radically reconfiguring these conditions of possibility to inform practices that resist, disrupt, and re-configure sociopolitical conditions perpetuating occupational inequities. Implications. Mobilizing occupation for social transformation holds much potential to contribute toward creating more equitable, humane societies. Realizing this potential involves committing to transforming our profession, as well as societal discourses, structures, systems, relations, and practices.
