Background: The indigenous people are socially, linguistically, and scientifically diverse. A global trend leads us to the notion that primitive women are somewhat less privileged than non-tribal mothers around the world. This problem also sounds true in the context of Bangladesh. A competent birth attendant at birth is the most important intervention for pregnant women. However, the use of skilled birth attendants has been widely discriminated among tribal and non-tribal women. Objective: This study assesses SBA acceptance and utilization barriers during childbirth among Bangladesh tribal women. Method: A quantitative approach was employed, and the data were collected via questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square ( ) χ 2 tests and Binary Logistic Regression were used to analyze the frequency, relationship, and to determine tribal women seeking the services of SBA during childbirth. Results: The results showed that the highest prevalence of delivery (66%) among tribal women occurred at home. 46% of the mothers gave birth to their children with the assistance of a skilled birth attendant, of which 12% of them were at home, and 34% were in the hospital. The remaining 54% of mothers gave birth to their babies with the assistance of a traditional midwife. Results also show that socio-economic conditions, education of women, distance from health care facilities, family planning, husbands’ occupation, and media exposure are the key determinants in pursuing SBA. Conclusion: The study revealed a low prevalence of utilizing skilled birth attendance among tribal women of Bangladesh. Hence, upgrading socio-economic conditions and boosting the education levels of tribal women, ensuring easy access to the media, and launching short-term training to train typical birth attendants are the key recommendations for seeking expert birth attendants.

Abstract The movement or activities that take place in an area will undoubtedly be impacted by how developed it is. The city of Semarang experiences the same thing. With such high mobility, transportation modalities and related services are necessary. In Semarang City, there are two train stations: Tawang Station and Poncol Station. The purpose of this study is to measure the effect of motorcycle parking attendants on station parking spaces. The measurement is based on descriptive statistics on parking space unit’s width. Tawang Station has parking attendants, and Poncol Station does not. A primary survey was conducted at the Poncol and Tawang station. The survey calculating the number of active cars and the area utilised during peak, early, and late hours. Google Maps were used to predict peak hour. The presence of parking attendants shows 120% more effective than without parking attendants. Moreover on averagethe width, and degree of saturation are 106% and 110% respectively better than standard.

The development of equipment and technology of train operation, railway automation systems and new methods of train driving open the way for further intensification of train operation, reducing the time spent on standard operation procedures. Virtual coupling allows you to reduce a train-to-train interval. Automated schedules of the executed movement record performance of train operation, automate the formation of a train-dispatcher’s reports and delivery of orders to station attendants, allow timely detection of the causes of train delays and take appropriate measures. The points of growth in traffic intensity and volume could be in enhancing the level of intelligence of automation and telemechanics systems. Modern dispatch and electrical centralized systems contain archiving subsystems that store prompt train operation conditions and operator orders. But such data is used only when analyzing emergency situations - there is no systematic analysis of archive information to find hidden patterns and extract knowledge useful for optimizing the transportation process. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the current train operation load of a railway station, and provide relative criteria for evaluating the actual load and algorithms for determining their numerical values. The analysis of the time series of the proposed criteria obtained for a single station equipped with a relay-processor centralized system is carried out. The analysis indicated a weekly cycle of train operation load of a station with good repeatability. The fact of reducing the speed of trains before the input signal in the through-pass routes with a preset route was revealed. Smoothing out the identified irregularities can positively affect the carrying capacity of a railway section as a whole.

PurposeDrawing from servant leadership (SL) and social exchange theories, our study investigates trust in organization (TIO) as a mediator of the impact of SL on job, career and life satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachA time-lagged survey design was used to gather data from flight attendants in Turkey. Structural equation modeling was used as the main analytic tool to assess these relationships.FindingsThe relationships proposed in the authors’ study receive full support from the empirical data. Specifically, TIO is one of the immediate outcomes of SL that engenders job, career and life satisfaction at elevated levels. The results highlight the impacts of job and career satisfaction in the intermediate linkage between SL and life satisfaction.Practical implicationsManagement should train managerial employees to enhance the understanding of SL, which boosts flight attendants’ TIO. Management should invest in human resources through training and empowerment. This makes flight attendants perceive that management does not violate psychological contract. Such employees develop TIO that in turn engenders higher job, career and life satisfaction. It is also important to reward servant leaders when they succeed in making flight attendants develop TIO and motivating them to have higher job performance.Originality/valueLittle is known about the consequences of SL in the extant service research. More importantly, there are still calls for research about the variables (e.g. TIO) mediating the relationship between SL and employee satisfaction outcomes.

The created situational information and training model will enable operational and management personnel to reduce to a minimum the time spent searching for the desired route and preparing it, reduce or eliminate train delays at input signals, and increase the safety of train traffic.The purpose of the study is to develop an algorithm of measures that will allow us to develop specific practical solutions to improve the technology of operation of railway stations in the event of failure of existing railway automation and telemechanics systems.The use of the situational information and training model ‟Managing route switches” together with the developed ‟Route Tables”, adapted for various extracurricular railway stations, will help eliminate mistakes by station attendants when preparing routes and reduce time spent on these operations.The need to improve the technology of operation of railway stations is indicated by creating a universal software package that allows training of operational and management personnel at stations, supervising the station duty officer in preparing routes in the event of failure of existing railway automation and telemechanics systems.Practical significance — reduction of defects in work in conditions of faulty operation of signaling, centralization and blocking devices, increasing the safety of train traffic.

The article focusses on the medicalisation of procreation promoted by the colonial governement in Transjordan and on the consequent transformation of birth practices in the local society. It specifically investigates the impact of public health policies on colonised women’s lives considering the ways the former changed local procreation practices and the new life trajectories they elicited for the women who chose to train as birth attendants. Transjordanian midwives and nurses trained in the newly imposed biomedical system became at the same time objects and agents of social change contributing in the long term to the transformation of birth, parenting and family representations.

In 1978, the Brazilian military government launched a “community development project” for the Xavante Indians of Mato Grosso (“Projeto Xavante”) to promote mechanized rice production and livestock rearing, and to institute educational and health programs. As the project sought to foster indigenous self-sufficiency, the government Indian bureau, Fundaçaão Nacional do Índio (FUNAI) would deploy a team of technicians, agronomists, educators, and health care officials to train Xavante as agriculturists, machine operators, health care attendants, and bilingual teaching monitors. Under the administration of General Ismarth Araújo de Oliveira, FUNAI initially earmarked CR$8,635,207 for the Xavante Project and established a special coordinating unit in Barra do Garças, Mato Grosso, the Ajudância Autônoma de Barra do Garças (AJABAG).

Introduction: Hospital waste has been reported to be poorly handled and managed by the hospital staff and administration respectively, leading to environmental and health consequences within hospitals and to the population outside health facilities. Aim: To assess the knowledge and practice of healthcare waste management (HCWM) among healthcare workers at Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital (YDMH), Kaduna, Nigeria. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted amongst doctors, nurses, medical laboratory scientists and technicians, ward attendants, and cleaners at YDMH. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the study unit. A total of 73 health workers consented to an interview. The data was obtained through the administration of questionnaires on the knowledge of health workers while the practice was assessed by direct observation using a checklist. Data were collected and compiled using Microsoft Excel and analysed using IBM, SPSS version 23.0. Results: There were 39 (53.4%) males and 34 (46.4%) females in this study. The average age of participants was 36.8 ± 8.3 years. The study revealed good knowledge of waste management amongst nurses (88.18%), doctors (86.68%), medical laboratory scientists and technicians (77.48%), ward attendants (19.1%), and cleaners (17.5%), respectively. In practice, all the wards and departments observed do not have (0%) colour-coded plastic bags on their waste bins, with only 70% having their waste bins covered, 30% having posters to guide waste users displayed near the waste bins, and 0% waste treatment before disposal practice. The health facility’s method of final waste disposal is not in line with best practices. Conclusion: This study highlights the discrepancy and inadequacies of knowledge and practice of proper healthcare waste management among healthcare workers. The healthcare workers with adequate knowledge were the nurses, doctors, and medical laboratory scientists and technicians while the least knowledge was found amongst ward attendants and cleaners. The practice of healthcare waste management was poor across all professions. This calls for the need to train and retrain all health workers with emphasis on the ward attendants and cleaners. Also, there is a need for the provision of colour-coded waste bin liners in all wards and departments which should be adequately budgeted for by the management.

Crew scheduling of the passenger dedicated line is the daily work plan of train attendants, and crew scheduling problem is one of the key problems of the train crew management. Considering the actual condition of China's railway and crew rules, a crew scheduling model is established in this paper to minimize rest time between two consecutive shifts in all roundtrips. In order to solve the scheduling model, in this paper a serial-parallel ant colony optimization algorithm (SP-ACO) is provided. The SP-ACO proposed two improvements: (1) a serial-parallel ant grouping strategy, it means that we let every group of ants find the solution one group by one group for reflecting the positive feedback in a generation; (2) the transition method based on the roulette wheel selection, it means that we randomly select between the certain search and the roulette wheel to make the diversity of solutions for avoiding all ants toward the same part of the search space. Finally, two application cases of the scheduling model are represented. The two cases results show that the methods can not only automatically set roundtrips, but also decrease the number of roundtrips, and the results also show that the feasibility of model and the validity of improved ant colony algorithm for crew scheduling.

The aim of this research is to explore the current status of work stress, leisure coping leisure, participation and health for THSRC service attendants, and then further to understand the relationships of these variables. Based on leisure coping theory, this research proposed the hypothetic model. For the survey, respondents were randomly sampled from February 2012 to March. Totally 341 questionnaires were sent out, and 231 valid samples were collected with a respondent rate of 68%.The variables in the questionnaire contain "work stress", "leisure coping", "leisure participation", and "health". Structural equation modeling (Structural Equation Modeling, SEM) was applied to verify the relationship of these variables. The results of the model reveal that: work stress appears to influence health significantly and negatively；leisure participation appears to influence health significantly and positively；Leisure coping appears to influence leisure participation significantly and positively. As the concluding remarks, we suggest that Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation should promote leisure participation in order to reduce employee’s stress, and assist train service attendants in increasing leisure opportunities, so the train service attendants can enhance physical and mental health.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships and connections within the family and the local Christian church community influencing spiritual wellbeing of young people engaged with Christian spirituality. Questions have arisen recently about the role of spiritual wellbeing in strengthening resilience of youth. To explore this association, this research focused on the relationships and connectedness of people who attend one religious organisation as one means of enhancing their spiritual wellbeing. Two separate but complementary theories underpinned this research: the bioecological theory of human development (Bronfenbrenner 2001a) and the international family strengths model (DeFrain & Asay 2007a).
In line with the purposes of an instrumental case study, different sources of data (quantitative and qualitative) were collected on the phenomenon of interest—spiritual wellbeing. Utilising a survey method, a theoretical purposive sample of sixty five people participated in this study.
Through an abductive analysis process, the research identified a model of five spiritual strengths that enhance peace and life satisfaction and strengthen youth resilience within the lives of the young people in this study. Spiritual wellbeing and resilience were shown to be interrelated and ecologically bound. This case study presents one possible explanation for the often observed yet poorly understood relationship between spiritual wellbeing and positive youth outcomes, such as resilience.
The author recommends measurement of resilience and strategies that aim to strengthen youth resilience should include spiritual wellbeing however, further research is required that considers how best to incorporate spiritual wellbeing into both resilience measures and health promoting strategies. It is also recommended that replica studies with people who belong to other spirituality types, and who may implement differing spiritual practices, are needed to test the proposed model of spiritual strengths and the identified relationship to resilience.

For decades, researchers and policymakers have grappled with the issue of the underachievement of African American students. An age-old problem has been that these students on average lag behind their peers of other racial/ethnic groups in math, science, and reading. Recently, California, like some other states, has implemented a high-stakes standardized testing program that has revealed that when test scores are disaggregated along racial/ethnic lines, the scores of African American students continue to trail those of their peers. The study described in this book was undertaken in an effort to uncover schooling practices that are advantageous or detrimental to the achievement of African American students. The study was based on interviews and questionnaire results from nearly 300 African American high school seniors. Most of these students resided in a region that had a low college attendance rate and a high child poverty rate. The students were given an opportunity to discuss numerous issues pertaining to their schooling experiences, including teacher attitudes and expectations, the curriculum, homework practices, the quality of services provided by their high school counselors, racism at school, school safety, parental involvement, and their early reading habits and attitudes about reading. In addition to quantitative results, most chapters include detailed narratives describing the elementary and secondary schooling experiences of the interviewees.

Indigenous communication is an indispensable medium of communication in the socio-cultural tradition of Africans. These systems have been used to promote co-operation, mobilization, and participation among African people. This chapter takes into account indigenous communication roles of traditional birth attendants in maternal wellbeing and maternal health practices during pregnancy and childbirth in both Nigerian and South African communities. The significant motivation behind the examination is to assess the indigenous communication role of traditional birth attendants in maternal health practices in the two nations through empirical studies. After careful review of the studies, it is shown and discovered that TBAs in both Nigeria and South Africa assist pregnant women based on their religious or traditional beliefs. The researchers therefore recommend that health professionals should train TBAs in modern maternal health practices. This will go a long way to help them know their restrictions and possibly refer mothers and their children for emergency services and attention as needed.

This chapter discusses about a prototype of Driverless Train Operation (DTO) mode. In DTO, driving is controlled and monitored automatically, without human assistance. A train attendant can intervene in emergencies. The automatic driving system takes care of the departure, the movement between two stations, and the automatic and precision stopping of the train and opening of the doors. If required, the door is automatically opened again. When passenger volume is high, additional trains are automatically sent into operation straight from the depot at the push of a button. The driverless metro train in our work is basically an embedded system based framework, which is designed to provide solutions for smooth a human machine interface while controlling high speed metro train using automated actuation and regulation mechanisms. In this work, the modeling of the metro train is done in a more precise way using an AVR microcontroller.

We’ve said our last goodbyes to the family, hauled our backpacks into our two-person sleeping compartment, and finally, after weeks of ever-more frantic preparation, begun to feel the rhythm of the world rumbling slowly by beneath us, the rhythm of our lives for the next six months. The train picks up headway as it groans past the hallowed green walls of Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox and the spiritual center of New England, the dense triple-decker blocks of the inner suburbs and the verdant lawns and oak groves of the outer suburbs. James and I sit across from each other, grinning slightly, both a little intoxicated by a cocktail of excitement, relief, and anxiety. Family, friends, work, school, daily antagonisms, and well-worn rituals are all receding physically if not yet mentally. It describes how capital flight has accelerated during the modern era of economic liberalization and rapid integration into the global economy. It highlights the systematic failure of the country’s regulatory system, which has been compromised by “state capture” orchestrated by an intricate network of private enablers with deep connections within the government and the global economy. It illustrates this phenomenon with the story of the Gupta family, which built its fortune by forging connections with key figures in government and parastatal companies in the mining and energy sectors and used a complex network of opaque transactions to move money out of the country. The chapter then discusses the adverse effects of capital flight on economic development, state institutions, and governance.

As we all know fingerprint recognition is one of the secure and accurate Biometric Technologies. If think about it in deep even with the Biometric system the virus can be spread during these situations. To overcome this, we need to come up with a secure and contactless way of authentication. So, let’s update to some contactless remedies like Iris authentication which are unique for every individual and they don’t need to have any physical contact. So, we can use this Iris detection for a secure and contactless authentication system. The main aim of this research is to provide contactless remedies for students in Educational institutes like Smart Locking system, Attendance management system, and Library Transaction by using their Iris authentication and Face Recognition. Coming to the outline of the attendance management system, we will first collect the data from the Kaggle repository. Next, we split the data into training and testing, then we will train the data using transfer learning techniques and test the model by using test data. Finally, we integrated the trained model with the flask. If the Iris matches then the attendance of a particular person will be posted. If not matched then we train the model by adding new person’s data. For the construction of modern electronic security systems, real-time face recognition is crucial. Face detection, feature extraction, and face recognition are the three procedures involved. After recognizing the face, it will check whether the person’s face matches the collected database. If it matches it will show the person’s name, the number of books he took, and what those books are for Library transactions and in the same way the locker will be open if the person’s data is matched. The proposed methods are secure and unique contactless ways of authentication for every individual. So, we can use these detection and authentication systems for secure and contactless applications. It can be successfully used for students in Educational institutes like Smart Locking system, Attendance management system, and Library Transaction by using their Iris authentication and Face Recognition. The Covid-19 infection in society will undoubtedly decline if the proposed argument is implemented.

Abstract In this chapter, Amrute argues that techno-ethics can and should be revitalised through attendance to techno-affects. As scandals over predictive policing, data mining and algorithmic racism unfold, digital labourers need both to be accounted for in analyses of algorithmic technologies and to be counted among the designers of these platforms. Amrute’s chapter attempts to do both of these by highlighting particular cases in which digital labour frames embodied subjects, and to propose ways digital workers might train themselves to recognise ethical problems as they are emerging, and ultimately uses the idea of attunements as a way to grasp what these forms of care might look like for the digital worker.

Abstract Dra˘zen and I started this paper during our year at the Russell Sage Foundation. Looking back, I realize that when we started working on the project we didn’t really know what it was about. I have notebooks full of the diverse, exploratory, questionnaires we administered that year wherever we could find subjects: parks, airports, on the train between Manhattan (where Dra˘zen and I were living) and Stonybrook (where my wife had an academic position), and in one case on a flight to Chicago (where I still had an academic appointment at the time). I passed out questionnaires to everyone in the plane, but when I went to collect them the flight attendant noticed, notified me that I had broken the law, and informed me that that the captain would meet me at the front of the plane when we landed. She then collected the surveys and brought them into the pilot’s cabin, and I spent the rest of the flight in trepidation.

The needs to discipline and train prisoners for work, has become a convention that all nations including Ghana have come to accept with a view to churning out productive ex-prisoners. Thus, the aim prison education programs in Ghana is to turn inmates into useful citizens and the purpose of vocational training is to equip prisoners with skills which they can utilize to make a living. Additionally, the purpose for setting up the Junior and Senior High Schools is to give a second chance to inmates who dropped out of school before they were incarcerated. Similarly, the functional literacy program was introduced to teach illiterate prisoners how to read and write English, Akan, Ga, and Ewe languages. The chapter also discusses the duration, enrollment, teachers and the challenges of the programs. In addition, the general education program focuses on the curriculum, examination, and class attendance. The themes covered provide information on how prisoners are prepared toward reintegration in Ghana.

Authenticating the identity of an individual has become an important aspect of many organizations. The reasons being to secure authentication process, to perform automated attendance, or to provide bill payments. This need of providing automated authentication has led to concerns in the security and robustness of such biometric systems. Currently, many biometric systems that are organizations are unimodal, which means that use single physical trait to perform authentication. But, these unimodal systems suffer from many drawbacks. These drawbacks can be overcome by designing multimodal systems which use multiple physical traits to perform authentication. They increase reliability and robustness of the systems. In this chapter, analysis and comparison of multimodal biometric systems is proposed for three physical traits like iris, finger, and palm. All these traits are treated independently, and feature of these traits are extracted using two algorithms separately.

Tasks of railway operational staff are changing with increasing digitalization and automation of the railway system. Even lower grades of automation like Grade of Automation 2 (GoA2) result in a decrease of active tasks and the operators having to predominantly monitor the technical systems. Effects of the introduction of higher Grades of Automation like GoA3 and 4 on tasks and roles of operational staff are currently examined in our research. In both GoA3 and 4, the train drives automatically and there are no train drivers in the cabin anymore. Instead, the new role of remote train operators is introduced. Remote train operators can drive the train remotely in case of disruption, for example from a control room. In GoA4, there is no operational staff on board, while in GoA3, a train attendant is still on board and can support in case of disruption. An interaction between staff on the train and remote train operators could also be possible.In the present paper, we will introduce different research projects at the Institute of Transportation Systems of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). These projects deal with research questions like: Which tasks of railway operational staff can be automated and which remain with the human? What could be a task distribution between automation and human that optimally utilizes the strengths of both? Who is going to carry out the remaining human tasks? Which new roles for operational staff could emerge from this task distribution? How could workflows within these new roles look like? What interaction and communication processes are necessary for a smooth operational procedure of automated railway? Current results will be presented.

<p>As the high-speed railway emerges in Eurasia, a comprehensive understanding of the aerodynamic problems – particularly extreme wind events – is vital to the success of the safety, operational efficiency, and transportation industry. Such knowledge of the effect of extreme wind on the train and bridge system has been hindered by a lack of available field test data. In light of limited field measured data to arrive at a consensus on quantifying key parameters characterizing the non-stationarity winds, accuracy associated with wind velocities is carried out using wind tunnel experimental approaches in this study. Compared with atmospheric boundary layer winds, which are customarily treated as stationary, winds associated with gust-fronts originating from a thunderstorm/downburst/tornado exhibit rapid changes during a short period which changes in direction may accompany. To realistically capture the characteristics of gust-front winds and their attendant load effect, a new gust-wind generator was presented, built in the CSU wind tunnel. Under a condition of the combined operation between a gust-wind generator and wind tunnel, the gust-front wind characteristics and effects on the train-bridge system were analyzed.</p>

We explore the impact of blended learning in higher education as as innovative pedagogy integrating problem-based learning and student-centred learning in teaching and learning, during the Covid-19 pandemic. New information technology tools and applications were experimented in teaching and learning at Gulu University between 2020 and 2021 at the peak of the pandemic. The study used qualitative methods and drew on constructivism where knowledge is co-constructed through interacting systems and actors in higher education environment. It is motivating and inspirational to deploy various methods of teaching and learning during the lockdowns. Inspiring innovation such as zero-rating, MEET tool and blended learning were used to address gaps in teaching and learning in university programmes. Preferences for blended learning grew even if institutions operate in resource constrained settings. // We used online training workshops to train teachers on basic ICT tools for content development and digitisation of teachers’ teaching and learning materials. Our findings indicate that lecturers progressively develop ICT skills, attitudes, and knowledge and innovative practices to teaching and learning using available free online applications and ICT resources at their disposal. Students’ attendance was low because of lack of access to the internet and ownership of computers for blended learning.
