ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study project deals with an investigation into the development for, and achievement of, project management best practices in the City of Cape Town. It is a fact that the average ratepayer expects to receive more and better services for less money. This will only be achieved if the organization can work more efficiently and provide more effective services to the communities. To be able to deliver these improved services at lower cost, the City of Cape Town needs to implement the Integrated Development Plan (lOP) and the programmes attached thereto through a project management approach; with the projects grouped within each program, in a matrix organization structure that will enable for the successful execution of projects that cut across multiple functions. A matrix organization can only be successful if everybody in the organization understands the concept and if functional managers are willing to share their resources and functional (subject) knowledge with project managers. The process to establish a project management methodology can be supported by a central project management office, headed by a professional project manager with sufficient authority within the organization. If the organization is serious about the successful execution of its lOP commitments and all its projects, then the central project management office will have to facilitate the development to project management maturity by being the focal point for the consistent application of project management processes and methodologies. The central project management office can support decentralized project management offices in the areas of activity, to ensure uniform standards and practices throughout the organization and to take responsibility for project management training in the organization. A project management best practices questionnaire was sent to people that deal with projects in the organization. The results indicated that there are many areas that require very urgent (immediately) and urgent training (within the foreseeable future) to be able to change the organization from a pure functional organization to a matrix organization. The custodian for this training must be the central project management office in the organization. This whole process needs to be implemented in a structured way with sufficient budget and resources provided for. Professional assistance needs to be sourced to ensure that the project management methodology is implemented correctly.

The study area is located at the eastern-central portion of the Serid? Belt, on the interface between the Serid? Group Metasediments and the crystalline basement rocks of the Caic? Complex (RN). Petrographic and geochemical data allow us to define aspects related to the genesis and evolution of the Serra Verde Pluton magmas, which composes the goal of this dissertation The Serra Verde Pluton is a stock with outcropping area of about 25 km?, which is intrusive into metasedimentary sequence and the basement gneisses. The pluton intrusion is sintectonic to the Brasiliano event, elongated along the NE direction, developing a cornue geometry. The rock is a monzogranite mainly composed by K-feldspar, plagioclase and quartz, which usually compose more than 85% of the modal analisys. The main mafic mineral is the biotite, while amphibole, sphene, epidote, opaque minerals, allanite, zircon and apatite occur as accessory minerals. It features still a latemagmatic paragenesis composed by chlorite, granular epidote, carbonates and muscovite, developed through the percolation of late CO2 and H2O rich fluids. Chemically, the Serra Verde Pluton rocks may be classified as metaluminous, of calc-alkaline affiliation, sometimes showing trondhjem?tic characteristics, with high Na2O (>4,5%), Sr (>400ppm) and Ba (>800ppm) and low K2O (≤3,0%), MgO (<1,0%), TiO2 (<0,5%), Rb (<90ppm), Y (≤16ppm) and Zr (≤13ppm). Micropetrographic evidences (mineral assembly and microtextures) indicate that the magma evolution occurred in moderated to high fO2 conditions, above the FMQ buffer. Thermo-barometric data obtained by minor elements geochemistry and the CIPW data, suggest a final/minimal pressure crystallization for the Serra Verde Pluton samples of about 3 to 5 kbar, liquidus temperature around 800o C, solidus temperature between 680o and 660o C. This data is compatible with those observed by many authors for the Neoproterozoic granites of the Serid? Belt. The group of analyzed data (Petrographic, microtextural and geochemical), suggests that the dominant process of the generation and evolution of the Serra Verde Granite magma was the fractional crystallization, probably from basement quartz-dioritic and tonalitic orthogneisses source

The increase in overweight and obesity worldwide is described as a global health epidemic. A great proportion of this epidemic is now found in low- and middle-income countries with higher levels of prevalence, particularly in emerging economies. In sub-Saharan Africa, South Africa ranks high in the prevalence of obesity at all levels. Since the inception of democracy in 1994, the government is yet to overcome the burden of poverty and inequality routed in its apartheid past. Apartheid systematically and unjustly disintegrated and segregated black Africans and people of Colour, denying them access to economic opportunity, thus leaving them on a dependency status. Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain are the relics of apartheid policies. Obesity and associated diseases are highly correlated with gender dynamics, economic conditions, nutritional status, poverty, and urbanisation. It is increasingly evident that poor urban dwellers, especially women and children are at risk of obesity-related factors such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart diseases. The increasing incidence of obesity especially amongst children is concerning. The prevalence of child poverty is in South Africa is a cause for concern. Over 18.5million children are in South Africa, 64% of which are dependent on CSG. With poverty and inequality affecting millions of households, access to food and quality food has reached crises level. Yet, it is a basic human right that has received little empirical response amongst policymaker in South Africa. The South African food system is complex, poverty is endemic and poor households are most vulnerable to unhealthy eating habits. This research critically analysis the link between food choices, overweight and obesity in adults and children living in urban peripheral communities in Cape Town. The study was designed to interrogate the kinds of food eaten by urban peripheral dwellers, their socioeconomic status and how the policy of the BIC addresses the problem of child obesity in South Africa.

The study was designed to interrogate the kinds of food eaten by urban peripheral dwellers, their socioeconomic status and how the policy of the BIC addresses the problem of child obesity in South Africa. This research aimed to empirically explore the relationship between BMI and food choices of adults and children living in urban peripheries in Cape Town. The study also aimed at evaluating the BIC in urban townships in Cape Town in the context of child obesity, to understand the views of the children and to understand how poor households are ensuring the BIC in relation food access, food availability and child protection from obesity. The study further aimed at comparing the and contrasting the socioeconomic dynamics of the two population to understand the progress and gaps in their economic and health status. Empirical data were collected from households in Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain using a two-stage sampling technic to identify clusters and households. A sample of about 4300 individuals in 1052 households was sampled. A 24H dietary recall was used to capture food types of the population. The World Health Organisation guidelines for BMI adults and children were applied through the study. A BIC Index was developed to assess the right to food from the views of the child. First, the study found significant differences in the socioeconomic and demographic profiles of the population. Poverty and the risk of falling into poverty were higher in Khayelitsha than in Mitchells Plain. Two-third of the population (65%) of adults we found to be overweight and obese. Overweight and obesity amongst children was 29% and 68% of children reported that they buy food at school or on their way to school. Over 83% children stated that their parents give them money to take to school. There was a significant association between children buying food and parents giving money at X2 91.4643, P<= 0.000. Carbohydrate represents 40% and sugar 35% of food types children eat away from home. In terms of the BIC, 43% of the children

The purpose of this study is to analyse how the process of metropolization of Belo Horizonte, the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, fell upon the cotidianity and ways of life of the population of Ribeirão das Neves, a municipality of the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte (MRBH). It tries to give special prominence to those who, in a certain way, opted to live outside the turbulent movement of the city in question and discusses a philanthropic project entitled Town of the Boys Saint Vincent of Paola ( Cidade dos Meninos São Vicente de Paula ), which we will refer to, in this study, as Town of the Boys (TOTB/CDM), as it is known by the local community. The relation metropolis/urban periphery is described in this research from the observation of the uses and of the impossibilities pointed out by the philanthropic ideals, which are sustained by the discourse of preservation of the christian moral and of the maintenance of order. People are seduced by the idea of living far away from the urban problems and conflicts. They seek alternatives for this dilemma, putting the biggest distance possible between themselves and the areas commonly considered dangerous or risky. They choose to withdraw from more intense personal relations and sometimes shut themselves in ghettoes or groups as such. The Town of the Boys points to ways that try to give answers to the urban conflicts in the municipality where it was constructed. One of the solutions for not living the negative aspects found in Ribeirão das Neves is to invite hundreds of young people to experiment the boarding school regime. In this way, apparently, the materially deprived youth would stay far away from the drugs (and from the family), from sex (and from parties), from vandalism (and from public spaces), from violence (and from individual autonomy), from economical precariousness (and from the natural dynamics of the municipality). These are choices which give indications that the urban phenomenon fragments itself and that the cities utopia loses importance. There is no place for everybody in the urban dynamics. The full living of the city gives place to the seduction of the walls that protect and mask part of the reality. This research tries to perceive and explain that in this relation of the metropolis of Minas Gerais with its metropolitan region, a philanthropic institution gains prominence for its proposals, which are presented to hundreds of young people, about how to succeed in life through the preparation for the work market. The young and not qualified labor force which makes constant use of the metropolis feels proud and esteemed with such incentive. Lives are transformed, dreams are stimulated, a new world announces itself. The institution Town of the Boys , paradoxically, legitimates the power of the private initiatives of assistance and shows that the discourse of discipline, moral and obedience seduces and brings with itself the idea of the absence of the State as an instrument that regulates order. The preparation for the work appears as a form of domination and of capture of the dreams of those who live in the periphery in the capital of Minas Gerais. Such dreams many times become real, possible.

This study is to use photolithography process to produce micro pump structure, to use PDMS to package peristaltic pump, and to use piezoelectric buzz as actuator. Simple theoretical analysis and CFD analysis are performed and compared with experimental measurement. In addition, the working phase, the number of chamber, the width of flow channel, the length of flow channel, and diffuser angle are investigated to explore their effects on the volume flow rate. The results indicate that in a two-chamber peristaltic micropump, the three phase -1 has higher volume flow rate than the three-phase -2. For three-chamber micropump, the volume flow rate of the four-phase case is the highest, that of the six-phase case is the second, and that of the three-phase case is the least. The results also reveal that the number of chamber has no clear effect on the volume flow rate of the peristaltic micropump. The volume flow rate is increased as the increasing of the width of the flow channel, while the variation of the length of the flow channel could not affect the volume flow rate. Finally, increasing the diffuser angle could result in higher volume flow rate, and it is recommended in the peristaltic micropump.
