The study examined inventory management and organisational efficiency. The classical inventory management techniques were applied to an organisation’s inventory system. A door sales company in Ilorin, Nigeria that volunteered information on the basis of anonymity was used and relevant data were collected on six types of doors; panel, flush, sliding, folding and as well as manual and electronic garage doors. The company had no scientific inventory management strategy but the EOQ, inventory cycle time and reorder level were computed for the six doors using the average values of the data obtained for 2011-2017. The results show that the company can minimise its total inventory cost by consciously adopting an inventory management policy of ordering 55 panel doors, 41 flush doors, 41 sliding glass doors, 18 folding doors, 18 manual garage doors and 8 electronic garage doors respectively every cycle time of 17, 14, 17, 30, 35 and 34 days respectively or by placing the above orders each time the inventory level of panel doors, flush doors, sliding glass doors, folding doors, manual garage doors and electronic garage doors fall to 32, 24, 24, 5, 3 and 2 respectively and thus minimise the total cost of inventory.

A survey was conducted in local municipalities in the Tshwane region of Gauteng Province in South Africa in order to assess and evaluate the efficiency with which municipal waste is collected, disposed of, processed and recycled by local municipalities in Tshwane based on data gathered from 1,035 businesses. Efficiency in waste management was assessed by using a structural time-based model designed for evaluating efficiency as a function of the length of time required to manage and process municipal waste. Adherence to municipal bylaws and procedures recommended for solid waste management by businesses by the City of Tshwane was graded based on ISO 14000 and ISO 14031 standards and guidelines. The study found that efficiency in waste management was adversely influenced by lack of adherence to municipal bylaws and regulations, wrong perception on the benefits of proper waste management, and failure to provide customers with waste disposal bins, in a decreasing order of importance. Real-time monitoring and optimization of production and logistics processes significantly improve the efficiency of production systems. Advanced production management solutions require real-time information about the status of products, production, and resources. As real-time locating systems (also referred to as indoor positioning systems) can enrich the available information, these systems started to gain attention in industrial environments in recent years. This paper provides a review of the possible technologies and applications related to production control and logistics, quality management, safety, and efficiency monitoring. This work also provides a workflow to clarify the steps of a typical real-time locating system project, including the cleaning, pre-processing, and analysis of the data to provide a guideline and reference for research and development of indoor positioning-based manufacturing solutions.

In this work, a probabilistic framework is presented for real-time assessment of wave and surge risk for hurricanes approaching landfall. This framework has two fundamental components. The first is the development of a surrogate model for the rapid evaluation of hurricane waves, water levels, and runup based on a small number of parameters describing each hurricane: hurricane landfall location and heading, central pressure, forward speed, and radius of maximum winds. This surrogate model is developed using a response surface methodology fed by information from hundreds of pre-computed, high-fidelity model runs. For a specific set of hurricane parameters (i.e., a specific landfalling hurricane), the surrogate model is able to evaluate the maximum wave height, water level, and runup during the storm at a cost that is more than seven orders of magnitude less than the high fidelity models and thus meet time constraints imposed by emergency managers and decision makers. The second component to this framework is a description of the uncertainty in the parameters used to characterize the hurricane, through appropriate probability models, which then leads to quantification of hurricane-risk in terms of a probabilistic integral. This integral is then efficiently computed using the already established surrogate model by analyzing thousands of different scenarios (based on the aforementioned probabilistic description). Finally, by leveraging the computational simplicity and efficiency of the surrogate model, a simple stand-alone PC-based risk assessment tool is developed that allows non-expert end users to take advantage of the full potential of the framework. An illustrative example is presented that considers applications of these tools for hurricane risk estimation for Oahu. The development of cyber-infrastructure at the University of Notre Dame to further support these initiatives is also discussed.

This research aims to observe current inventory management applied by one of the medical equipment distributors specializing in eye health devices, and provide recommendations for an optimal inventory management system to achieve cost efficiency afterward. The method used in this research is quantitative, focusing on processing and analyzing numerical data obtained from the company to calculate safety stock and the number of orders. In addition, ABC classification is also used in data processing to group items based on their value. Items belonging to class A (having a value of 80% for the company) will be used in the data processing. The next step is to conduct forecasting simulations for demand forecasts. The results of the forecast will be used for calculating the safety stock and order quantity. The output from the results of data processing and analysis in this study shows 67 items included in class A, which will then be processed using Minitab software for forecasting. Based on comparing the four forecasting methods, the one with the lowest error value is Trend Analysis. If the company can apply the storage method according to the fixed-time period model calculation, there is a potential savings of US $ 717,133 or 63% of the total overstock

The dynamic changes and the overall progress of society are reflected at company level by many orders in number, small in volume, very diverse, obtained through frequent auctions with short- term response, which leaves no time for a relevant analysis of said orders. As a result, a long-term management is not appropriate. A sort of fluctuating (just like the market) on-line, fastly responsive, prompt and rapid, however, ephemeral management is called for. In this paper it is considered that a solution for this situation is competitive management. The conventional management is based on the minimum cost, while the competitive management is based on the market success of manufacturing product. The paper presents a numerical study of the competitive management efficiency by comparison to the conventional management.

In response to the inherent dynamic nature of the oceans and continuing difficulty in managing ecosystem impacts of fisheries, interest in the concept of dynamic ocean management, or real-time management of ocean resources, has accelerated in the last several years. However, scientists have yet to quantitatively assess the efficiency of dynamic management over static management. Of particular interest is how scale influences effectiveness, both in terms of how it reflects underlying ecological processes and how this relates to potential efficiency gains. Here, we address the empirical evidence gap and further the ecological theory underpinning dynamic management. We illustrate, through the simulation of closures across a range of spatiotemporal scales, that dynamic ocean management can address previously intractable problems at scales associated with coactive and social patterns (e.g., competition, predation, niche partitioning, parasitism, and social aggregations). Furthermore, it can significantly improve the efficiency of management: as the resolution of the closures used increases (i.e., as the closures become more targeted), the percentage of target catch forgone or displaced decreases, the reduction ratio (bycatch/catch) increases, and the total time–area required to achieve the desired bycatch reduction decreases. In the scenario examined, coarser scale management measures (annual time–area closures and monthly full-fishery closures) would displace up to four to five times the target catch and require 100–200 times more square kilometer-days of closure than dynamic measures (grid-based closures and move-on rules). To achieve similar reductions in juvenile bycatch, the fishery would forgo or displace between USD 15–52 million in landings using a static approach over a dynamic management approach.

Health financing in Indonesia has increased from 27 US $ (2003) to 115 US $ (2017) and will continue to increase as the population increases. The JKN era is also a burden where health financing managed by BPJS is always deficit every year. Hospitals as health service providers must be able to carry out operational cost efficiency as mandated by the JKN era, namely quality control and cost control. One of the cost efficiency methods is the implementation of lean management in hospital operational processes, especially the supply chain management process (procurement, inventory control, distribution planning and demand management). This study aims to evaluate the improvement process and cost efficiency after the implementation of lean management in the supply chain management process at the hospital. This study used a single holistic case study method with the unit of analysis at the Lean team level at Panti Rapih Hospital, Yogyakarta. Research subjects are employees in the team who are directly involved in the implementation of lean management. Selection of research subjects based on purposive sampling. Total sample of 7 respondents for in-depth interview process. The research instrument used an interview guide. The result of this research is that lean management which is applied in the logistic unit of the neat orphanage hospital can reduce waste such as motion, inventory, and waiting time. In addition, another benefit that can be felt by management is increasing cost efficiency. The conclusion of this study is that lean management is recommended to be applied in health services such as hospitals.

Objective. The problem of rational use of time in the teacher's work is quite relevant because the pace of life in modern realities is associated with overload, high demands, and a constant shortage of time, which negatively affects the productivity and quality of the work process.The aim: to analyze the literature on methods and laws of time management, which will help optimize the work of the teacher.Research methods: monitoring of scientific literature related to the rational distribution of time. Results. The principles of saving time are generalized, the importance of goal setting is specified; correctness of priority determination of tasks; emphasis is placed on detecting and eliminating "time thieves"; the importance of monitoring the implementation of the tasks has been proved.Conclusions. The main thing in the practical organization of the teacher's time is the sequence of planning stages, goal setting, decision making, implementation of plans, and control over their performance. Acquisition of time management skills leads to the formation of conscious self-control, concentration, determination, discipline, which increase efficiency.

Effective time management methods for personal tasks allow people who are interested in the optimal use of their own resources to increase the productivity of their activities. With the help of statistical analysis and the general scientific approach of theoretical research, one can come to the conclusion that in the modern world, in order to achieve goals and high results, it is necessary to correctly use such a resource as time. Proper use of this resource involves working with time management methods. The article highlights three main methods of time management with a description of their main idea when performing tasks of varying complexity and urgency. A comparative analysis is given according to the criteria of efficiency and ease of use of a particular method. According to the analysis, the positive and negative features of each of the methods are highlighted, the specifics of the application are determined in relation to the category of tasks. Purpose. Analyze the concept of time management, highlight the most effective and common methods of its use. Methodology. The article used theoretical analysis and synthesis. Results: three main methods of time management were identified and a comparative analysis was built to determine the positive and negative aspects of each method. Practical implications he obtained results should be applied by people interested in improving the efficiency of activities and personal growth.

Purpose Drawing on the systems theory and the natural resource-based view, the purpose of this paper is to advance an integrated resource efficiency view (IREV) and derive a composite “integrated resource efficiency index” (IRE-index) for assessing the environmental, economic, and social resource efficiencies of production economies. Design/methodology/approach Using sub-national input-output data, the IRE-index builds on the human development index (HDI) and the OECD green growth indicators by including functions for environmental resource efficiency, energy, and material productivity. The study uses multiple regressions to examine and compare the IRE-index of 40 countries, including 34 OECD nations. The study further compares the IRE-index to similar composite indicators such as the human sustainable development index (HSDI) and the ecological footprint. Findings The IRE-index reveals a discrepancy between social development and resource efficiency in many of the world’s wealthiest production economies. Findings also show that material productivity has been the key driver for observed improvements in IRE over time. The index is a robust macro-level methodology for assessing resource efficiency and sustainability, with implications for production operations in global supply chains. Originality/value The IREV and IRE-index both contribute towards advancing green supply chain management and sustainability, and country-level resource efficiency accounting and reporting. The IRE-index is a useful composite for capturing aggregate environmental, economic, and social resource efficiencies of production economies. The paper clearly outlines the managerial, academic, and policy implications of the IREV and resulting index.

Numerous scholars have invested in the research of service innovation management, hoping to find a more objective and scientific service efficiency evaluation and management model so as to stride forward towards the goal of smart innovation management. In the service operating system, the multi-workstation service operation is one of the common service operation models. Some studies have pointed out: apart from a good service attitude, the service operation time of each workstation is a key factor which measures the performance of the workstation’s service operation. Therefore, this paper proposed a standardized concept with a service operation efficiency evaluation index. This index is not only convenient and easy-to-use, but it also has a one-to-one mathematical relationship with the performance achievement rate. Next, the radar evaluation chart was employed to evaluate the service efficiency of each workstation. First, according to the upper confidence limit and the required value of the index, the minimum value (MV) of the index estimator was derived and marked on each radar line; at the same time, all MVs were connected to form a control block. When the point estimate of the index does not fall into the control block of the radar chart, it represents that the service operation efficiency of the workstation has not reached the required level, so it needs to be improved. Because this model can directly compare the point estimate of the index with the MV, it can judge whether the service operation efficiency reaches the required level. In this way, the advantage of simple and easy-to-use point estimate can be maintained, and the risk of misjudgment caused by sampling errors can be reduced as well, which is helpful for the service industry to move towards the goal of intelligent innovation management. This method is not only applied to the performance evaluation of the multi-workstation service operation process but also applicable to the performance evaluations of other service operations.

This study illustrates the application of lean management and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to improve the logistics efficiency in a distribution center. The distribution center stores more than ten million parts belonging to about ten thousand types. There are more than ten thousand storage and retrieval operations for hundreds of part types on a daily basis. Value stream mapping was used to draw current state mapping with material flow, information flow, and time flow. Based on the concept of business process reengineering, future state mapping with RFID application was developed. Abstract The research aims to characterise the optimisation of a technological process depending on the main time parameters for production. The optimisation does not require to correct technical parameters of a system, but rather the organisational and managerial factors of the technological process. The workload is taken as an evaluation criterion, which factors in the probability distribution of time characteristics of computer process operations. Time characteristics that represent the performance of an operation influence the workloads of an operator and equipment, determining the productivity of the technological process. Analytical models were developed for the operational control of a production line efficiency considering the probability–statistical parameters pertaining to the performance of operations and technological equipment peculiarities. The article presents research results, which characterise the dependence of a production line efficiency on the type of equipment, and the duration of preparatory and final operations considering their probability. Under an optimal workload of the operator, the duration of the complete program changes linearly, regardless of the time required for the performance of operations by a computer without the involvement of the operator, and depending on the type of equipment. A managerial decision can be optimal under the condition that the factor of technological process efficiency (K_TP) tends to max. The developed method of analytical determination can be used to calculate the workload of both an operator and technological equipment. The calculations of the duration of a production line operation resulted in the methodology for the consideration of probability characteristics pertaining to the time distribution of the period required to perform operations, which influences the unequal efficiency of the production line. The probabilistic character of time distribution related to intervals of performed operations serves as a parameter in the management of technological process optimisation, which can be achieved using simulators of technological processes optimised in terms of their efficiency.

Purpose Company intellectual capital (IC) is nowadays considered as a key resource that can transform a company’s value. For this reason, the efficiency of IC is crucial for all stakeholders. Evaluating efficiency is difficult, because IC is partly unobservable and its efficiency varies across time. The aim of this study is to suggest a methodology for estimating the dynamic efficiency of a company’s intellectual resources. Design/methodology/approach The panel data model suggested by Kneip et al. (2012) is used to estimate dynamic efficiency. The main feature of this model is that the unobservable component has a multi-dimensional factor structure. Taking advantage of the ability of this model to control for unobserved complex heterogeneity, the authors use the results in further stochastic frontier analysis. A data set containing information about Russian companies for the period from 2001 to 2010 is used. Findings In this paper, the dynamic efficiency of Russian companies is estimated. It is shown that, using the traditional efficiency estimate, companies can be overestimated. Research limitations/implications The main limitation of the suggested methodology is that it is necessary to have a long panel data structure. Practical implications Taking advantage of time-varying efficiency, one can estimate the efficiency growth rate as a measure of performance, standard deviation as a measure of risk and autocorrelation as a measure of stability. Originality/value This is the first study to present clear evidence of the time-varying nature of IC efficiency. On the methodological side, the paper presents a fairly simple method capable of estimating various indicators of a company’s efficiency.

The responsibilities for universities to improve the quality of time management for professors were analyzed. Suggestions and counter measures used to economize time and to improve efficiency for professors with better service were proposed. Through introducing the concept and methods of time management for professor-service into the system, one can greatly improve the service quality, optimize professors’ time allocation, increase work efficiency.</p>

Purpose – This paper reports on the experimentation of an integrated manufacturing and building model to improve energy efficiency. Traditionally, manufacturing and building-facilities engineers work independently, with their own performance objectives, methods and software support. However, with progresses in resource reduction, advances have become more challenging. Further opportunities for energy efficiency require an expansion of scope across the functional boundaries of facility, utility and manufacturing assets. Design/methodology/approach – The design of methods that provide guidance on factory modelling is inductive. The literature review outlines techniques for the simulation of energy efficiency in manufacturing, utility and facility assets. It demonstrates that detailed guidance for modelling across these domains is sparse. Therefore, five experiments are undertaken in an integrated manufacturing, utility and facility simulation software IES < VE > . These evaluate the impact of time-step granularity on the modelling of a paint shop process. Findings – Experimentation demonstrates that time-step granularity can have a significant impact on simulation model results quality. Linear deterioration in results can be assumed from time intervals of 10 minutes and beyond. Therefore, an appropriate logging interval, and time-step granularity should be chosen during the data composition process. Time-step granularity is vital factor in the modelling process, impacting the quality of simulation results produced. Practical implications – This work supports progress towards sustainable factories by understanding the impact of time-step granularity on data composition, modelling, and on the quality of simulation results. Better understanding of this granularity factor will guide engineers to use an appropriate level of data and understand the impact of the choices they are making. Originality/value – This paper reports on the use of simulation modelling tool that links manufacturing, utilities and facilities domains, enabling their joint analysis to reduce factory resource consumption. Currently, there are few available tools to link these areas together; hence, there is little or no understanding of how such combined factory analysis should be conducted to assess and reduce factory resource consumption.

We apply adjoint algorithmic differentiation (AAD) to the risk management of securities when their price dynamics are given by partial differential equations (PDE). We show how AAD can be applied to forward and backward PDEs in a straightforward manner. In the context of one-factor models for interest rates or default intensities, we show how price sensitivities are computed reliably and orders of magnitude faster than with a standard finite-difference (FD) approach. This significantly increased efficiency is obtained by combining (i) the adjoint forward PDE for calibrating model parameters, (ii) the adjoint backward PDE for derivatives pricing, and (iii) the implicit function theorem to avoid iterating the calibration procedure.

Background: Background: An investigational pharmacy is responsible for all tasks related to receiving, storing, and dispensing of any investigational drugs. Traditional methods of inventory and protocol tracking on paper binders are very tedious and could be error-prone. Objective: To evaluate the utilization of the IDS to efficiently manage the inventory within an investigational Pharmacy. We hypothesize that the IDS will reduce the drug processing time. Methods: Our pharmacy tracked the drug processing time before and after using the IDS including the receiving, dispensing, and inventory. As part of the receiving the study drug pharmacists tracked the time it took a pharmacist to complete the tasks of logging the study drug before and after the implementation of the IDS system. In addition, the pharmacy also timed the process for drug dispensing and a full investigational drug inventory check. Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to compare the difference in the meantime of total processing before and after the IDS. Results: Utilization of the IDS system showed significant reduction in processing time, and improvement of efficiency in inventory management. Additionally, the usability survey of the IDS demonstrated that the IDS system helped pharmacists capture data consistently across every clinical trial. Conclusion: Our results demonstrates how technology helps pharmacists to focus on their actual day to day medication-related tasks rather than worrying about other operational aspects. Informatics team continues to further enhance the features such as monitor portal, and features related to finance – generation of invoices, billing reconciliation, etc.

The main purpose of the research is to assess the corporate energy efficiency of investment subsidies with or without the possibility of drawing on subsidies or without support from the Operational Program Enterprise and Innovation. Systematization literary sources and approaches for solving the problém is processed according to the methodology of the Operational Program Enterprise and Innovation, Eco-energy program indicates the comparison with real and expected savings of energy concerning the corporate energy efficiency of investment subsidies provided to maintain the principles of EU environmental policy and rules for subsidies on a general level in the Czech Republic, complemented by graph illustration of time series of development of sales in the horizon of the years 2011-2015. The relevance of the decision of this scientific problem is that the provision of subsidies from European climate protection funds can contribute to energy savings and air quality. Investigation of the topic within a methodical survey is processed by the research of Czech and foreign scientific literature in the paper is carried out in the following logical sequence: is the creation of a graph and tables taking into account investments and implemented measures with the evaluation of investment efficiency. Methodological tools of the research methods were the comparison was made between the Eco-energy and Potential subsidy programs. The object of research is the chosen company in the South Bohemia region in manufacturing in the Czech Republic plant with 480 employees because namely an annual turnover of CZK 520 million in 2015. The paper presents the results of an empirical analysis of statistical data, documents, and databases of state and private institutions, particularly the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry for Regional Development, and the Czech Invest Agency. The research empirically confirms and theoretically proves that the net present value, which expresses the total present value of the cash flows related to the investment project, the simple and the real-time of return on investments, and the internal rate of return is significant to efficiency. The results of the research can be useful to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save electricity, and thermal energy. Appropriate time management allows individuals to achieve work and personal goals, plan tasks, set priorities, eliminate disruptive effects, and increase work efficiency and productivity. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of managerial work and the performance of managers of food companies in the V4 countries (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland) from the perspective of time management principles, point out the shortcomings and reserves that can ensure time management, and propose solutions to improve business practice. We set five research assumptions in order to evaluate the situation comprehensively. A survey carried out from September 2020 to January 2021 involved 1588 managers working at various levels of management. Statistical methods and tests were used for data processing and their subsequent evaluation. The data were processed using Microsoft Excel 2016, the statistical software SAS Enterprise Guide 7.1, and XLSTAT. The analysis showed that three-quarters of managers are aware of the value of their time. More than half of the managers involved try to regularly review their agenda in order to identify gaps in the use of time and to avoid repeating unproductive practices. Only half of the managers make arrangements not to think about work in their free time. The managers spend the most time in their work dealing with administration. Intensifying the implementation of ICT (information and communication technologies) in the work of the manager has the effect of increasing the efficiency of the division and use of working time of managers. Based on our findings, we consider the goal orientation, positive motivation, systematic training, and development of managers as a key prerequisite for efficiency of managerial work and performance of managers and their effective time management.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to introduce two important principles of efficiency, one on the management of a business entity and the other on the structure of employees’ efforts and devotion toward realizing the mission of their organization. Design/methodology/approach All discussion and reasoning are established on some of the traditional methods of microeconomics and on the basis of the systemic yoyo model. Here, the yoyo model plays the role of intuition, while the traditional methods are utilized to present the exact details underneath the systemic thinking. Findings What is discovered include how management efficiency can be achieved by being flexible in terms of allowing individual employees to have conflicting personal values and how organizational inefficiency always exists no matter how the business entity is set up. Research limitations/implications The established results are applicable in all business scenarios without foreseeable limitations. Practical implications By understanding these results, business managers could simply devote more of their time and effort on being flexible in terms of management styles and focusing on the “big” picture of the corporation instead of dwelling on how to improve employees’ efficiencies. Originality/value This paper establishes two very important, very useful results for managers. These results are expected to enrich the managerial understanding on what can be improved and what cannot.

In supply chain management, decision support systems and time series forecasting play an essential role. The accuracy of time-series predictions is critical for the performance optimization of every supply chain. This article suggests a method based on state-space modelling (SSM) for structured time series forecasting. Technology and advance implementations of decision support systems (DSS) have improved considerably. DSS has been used as a more restricted functionality of the database, modelling, and user interface, although technical advances made DSS even more effective. Web development has facilitated inter-organizational decision-making support systems and has resulted in many innovative implementations of current technology and many new decision-making technologies. The study of multiple configurations shows that the SSM and DSS are ideal for solving the problem being studied; in particular, the DSS guarantees appropriate prediction errors and a correct computational effort to provide adequate customer order plans.

We examine energy efficiency in the European Union (EU) using an integrated model that connects labor and capital as production factors with energy consumption to produce GDP with a limited amount of environmental emissions. The model is a linear output-oriented BCC data envelopment analysis (DEA) that employs variables with non-negative values to calculate efficiency scores for a sample of 28 EU member states in the period 2010–2018. We assume variable returns to scale (VRS) considering the natural inclination of countries to adopt technologies that allow them to produce higher outputs over extended periods of time, which we observed through the trends of increasing labor productivity and decreasing energy intensity over the analyzed period. The average EU inefficiency margin in the sample period is 16.0%, with old member states being significantly more efficient (4.2%) than new member states (29.5%). Energy efficiency management does not improve over time, especially in new member states that had substantially worse efficiency by 2018 than in 2010. New member states could increase energy efficiency through the liberalization of the energy market, the support of energy-saving and technologically advanced industries, and the introduction of measures aimed at increasing the productivity levels in the economy.
