El presente trabajo de investigación tiene por objeto la creación de una plataforma virtual educativa en donde los niños y jóvenes podrán interactuar por medio de cursos cognitivos, cursos de actividad física como baile, yoga, canto, entre otros. La plataforma contará con el acceso para padres el cual podrá evaluar las actividades realizadas por los niños La idea de negocio surge debido a que los padres no poseen la información adecuada para que sus hijos tengan acceso a actividades recreativas y desarrollen nuevas habilidades en sus tiempos de ocio. Esta necesidad se ve reflejada más en estos tiempos debido a la coyuntura actual y a la poca socialización de los niños con alguien que tiene su misma edad. De esta manera, el trabajo de investigación permitirá conocer la rentabilidad del negocio y si este es viable en el corto, mediano y largo plazo por medio de la estructura de costos y las proyecciones de ventas. Asimismo, el uso de las estrategias comerciales, actividades operativas, plan concierge, entre otros permiten obtener resultados cuantitativos y cualitativos para evaluar al proyecto.
The present research work aims to create a virtual educational platform where children and young people can interact through cognitive courses, physical activity courses such as dance, yoga, singing, among others. The platform will have access for parents which will be able to evaluate the activities carried out by the children The business idea arises because parents do not have adequate information for their children to have access to recreational activities and develop new skills in their leisure time. This need is reflected more in these times due to the current situation and the little socialization of children with someone who is the same age. In this way, the research work will allow us to know the profitability of the business and if it is viable in the short, medium and long term through the cost structure and sales projections. Likewise, the use of commercial strategies, operational activities, concierge plan, among others, allow obtaining quantitative and qualitative results to evaluate the project.

Empreendedorismo a tempo parcial é frequentemente considerado como sendo o primeiro passo para ingressar no empreendedorismo a tempo integral. Este estudo tem como objetivo investigar quais os determinantes que sustentam a transição mencionada. Para a realização deste estudo recorremos a uma base de dados portuguesa, Quadros de Pessoal Os empreendedores portugueses que transitam a sua actividade empresarial em tempo parcial para tempo integral são predominantemente homens com idades entre os 50 e 60 anos. A transição para uma actividade em tempo integral é mais passivel de ocorrer em indivíduos com maior educação e sem experiencia prévia na indústria. Em relação às características das empresas, podemos afirmar que quanto maior o tamanho da empresa no momento da sua fundação, maior será também, a probabilidade de a mesma empresa transitar de uma actividade parcial para uma actividade em tempo integral.
Part-time entrepreneurship is often considered to be the first step to full-time entrepreneurship. This study investigates the reasons and characteristics that lead part-time entrepreneurs to transitions into full-time entrepreneurship. To sustain this research, we ran through a matched employer-employee Portuguese database. Part-time entrepreneurs who transition to full-time are predominantly men individuals with ages between 50 to 65 years. The transition into full-time entrepreneurship is more likely to occur for high educated individuals with no previous industry experience. Additionally individual with a lower tenure and higher hours worked are more likely to move into full-time entrepreneurship. In regard to the ventures' characteristics, we find that, the larger ventures' size at its foundation, the higher is the likelihood of transition into full-time entrepreneurship.

Abstract Hematopoietic cells, i.e., erythrocytes, platelets and white blood cells, differentiate from hematopoietic stem cells in a process that is similar in vertebrates. Hematopoiesis is regulated by molecules expressed by both the hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells and the surrounding microenvironments. Knowledge of these molecules is important since many of the genes involved in normal hematopoiesis are mutated in leukemia. Furthermore, this information can be utilized in more efficient isolation and expansion of hematopoietic cells in vitro. However, these molecules are not yet sufficiently characterized. Transmembrane immunoglobulin and mucin domain (TIM) genes form a known family of immunoregulators. In mammals, TIM-4 is expressed by antigen presenting cells, while TIM-1, TIM-2 and TIM-3 are expressed by T cells, in which they regulate differentiation of TH cells. The role of TIM molecules in hematopoiesis has not yet been investigated. The aim of this thesis work was to identify and analyze novel molecules involved in embryonic hematopoiesis using chicken and mouse as model organisms. This was carried out by generating a cDNA library of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells from embryonic chicken para-aortic region. Both previously known and novel candidate genes were identified from the library. Among them, we found homologs to tim genes. Their expression and role in hematopoiesis was studied further. TIM-2 expression was shown to be tightly governed during B cell development. It is expressed by common lymphoid progenitors and highly proliferative large-pro and large pre-B cells during both fetal liver and adult bone marrow hematopoiesis. In mouse, tim-4 expression was restricted to fetal liver CD45+F4/80+ cells. Furthermore, two distinct populations were identified: F4/80hiTIM-4hi and F4/80loTIM-4lo. The results suggest that the F4/80hiTIM-4hi cells are yolk sac-derived macrophages and the F4/80loTIM-4lo cells myeloid progenitors. This work shows for the first time that TIM family molecules are expressed during hematopoiesis. TIM-2- and TIM-4 are expressed by specific cell types during hematopoietic cell development, and in the future they may be utilized as markers in isolation of hematopoietic progenitor cells
Tiivistelmä Verisolut eli punasolut, verihiutaleet ja immuunipuolustuksessa tärkeät valkosolut kehittyvät alkion veren kantasoluista prosessissa, joka on kaikissa selkärankaisissa samankaltainen. Veren kanta- ja esisolujen sekä ympäröivän mikroympäristön tuottamat molekyylit säätelevät hematopoieesia eli verisolujen kehitystä. Näiden molekyylien tunteminen on tärkeää, sillä useat normaalia verisolujen kehitystä säätelevät geenit ovat osallisena myös verisyöpien synnyssä. Lisäksi tätä tietoa on mahdollista hyödyntää verisolujen tehokkaammassa eristämisessä ja kasvattamisessa hoitoja varten. Immuunipuolustuksen solut, kuten syöjäsolut eli makrofagit ja T-solut, ilmentävät TIM-molekyylejä (Transmembrane Immunoglobulin and Mucin). Ne toimivat immunologisen vasteen säätelyssä sekä solusyönnissä, mutta niiden roolia verisolujen kehittymisessä ei ole selvitetty aikaisemmin. Tässä väitöstutkimuksessa etsittiin uusia hematopoieesiin vaikuttavia geenejä käyttäen mallieläiminä sekä kanaa että hiirtä. Tutkimuksessa luotiin geenikirjasto kanan alkion para-aortaalisen alueen veren kanta- ja esisoluista. Kirjastosta tunnistettiin useita ennalta tiedettyjä sekä uusia verisolujen kehitykseen vaikuttavia geenejä. Tutkimuksessa analysoitiin tarkemmin kirjastosta löytyneiden TIM-geeniperheen jäsenten ilmentymistä ja roolia verisolujen kehityksessä. Tutkimuksessa osoitettiin, että TIM-2 proteiinin ilmentymistä säädellään tarkasti B-solujen kehityksen aikana. Lymfosyyttien yhteiset esisolut sekä suuret pro-B- ja pre-B-solut ilmentävät TIM-2 proteiinia B-solukehityksen aikana sekä alkion maksassa että aikuisen luuytimessä. Hiiren alkiossa tim-4 geenin ilmentyminen oli rajoittunut maksaan, jossa erottui kaksi erillistä solupopulaatiota: F4/80hiTIM-4hi ja F4/80loTIM-4lo. Tutkimuksen tulokset viittaavat siihen, että maksan F4/80hiTIM-4hi solut ovat ruskuaispussista lähtöisin olevia syöjäsoluja ja F4/80loTIM-4lo solut myeloidisen linjan esisoluja. Tämä tutkimus on ensimmäinen osoitus TIM-molekyylien ilmentymisestä kehittyvissä verisoluissa. Havaitsimme, että TIM-2 ja TIM-4-molekyylejä ekspressoidaan tietyissä soluissa verisolujen erilaistumisen aikana, joten tulevaisuudessa niitä on mahdollista käyttää merkkiproteiineina hematopoieettisten solujen esiasteita eristettäessä

Resumo: Neste trabalho dimensiona-se a relevância social da televisão, no cenário da comunicação midiática brasileira para a formação responsável de crianças e jovens. Apontam-se os entraves ao uso educativo dessa mídia. Um estudo sobre o seriado televisivo infanto-juvenil "Ilha Rá-tim-bum", exibido pela Tv Cultura, oferece reflexões acerca da manipulação dos diversos saberes necessários para a transmissão de conceitos didáticos. A análise do percurso gerativo do sentido contido no enunciado, realizada com a aplicação do ferramental científico disponibilizado pela teoria semiótica greimasiana, pontua acertos e deslizes, na veiculação dos conceitos educativos. Entrevistas com elementos da equipe de produção revelam o saber fazer edificado por intermédio da experiência da emissora com a produção de textos televisivos para esse público e permitem reconhecer a origem dos problemas delineados pela abordagem semiótica. Avalia-se, por meio de sondagem conduzida, como os pais acompanham o conteúdo ao qual seus filhos se submetem ao assistirem televisão e a percepção que as crianças têm do "Ilha". Apresentam-se ainda sugestões de caráter político e social para melhoria do contexto midiático delimitado e identificam-se algumas opções de disciplinas, para formação de profissionais habilitados a atuarem nesse segmento.
Abstract: The social relevance of television in Brazilian society is presented in this dissertation that deals with how this mass medium should be used responsibly to develop a knowledge base and a practical moral compass in our children and youth. In addition, the impediments encountered in the educational use of television programming are highlighted. In particular, a study of "Ilha Rá-tim-bum", a TV series for children, broadcasted by TV Cultura, provides a model to appraise how different sources of knowledge can be combined to communicate didactic concepts. On the other hand, a semiotic approach reveals the program's failures and highlights procedures that should be avoided in future productions. Interviews with members of the production team show how they handled this production process. Feedback from parents and children are used to investigate whether parents supervise what their children watch on TV and to understand what perceptions the children themselves have of the "Ilha". A collection of suggestions for political and social actions encourages society to demand that the government and the station's owners improve and guarantee future quality programming for children on Brazilian TV. Lastly, some references for graduate courses to enhance the professional abilities of practitioners in this field are offered.

L'oeuvre de Tim PARKS, auteur britannique contemporain résidant en Italie, séduit le lecteur par sa diversité: ouvrages autobiographiques ou pseudo-autobiographiques, récits de voyage, romans épistolaires et "thrillers" mettent en scène des protagonistes hommes ou femmes tantôt homo- ou autodiégétiques, tantôt guidés par un narrateur dit "effacé". Quels que soient le genre ou la voix, le lecteur entre généralement sans difficulté dans le monde diégétique, tant les instances auctoriale et narratoriale oeuvrent dans ce sens. Cette étude narratologique et stylistique vise à déterminer les paramètres de cette implication. Elle révèle tout d'abord l'importnance de la stratégie énonciative adoptée, selon laquelle le lecteur deviendra par exemple le confident du narrateur homodiégétique, ou le complice du narrateur hétérodiégétique. Le lecteur adoptera également une posture différente selon le temps choisi pour rapporter les faits. L'emploi du présent, qui n'est pas rare chez Tim PARKS, est porteur de multiples sens. Pour que le lecteur accepte la place qui lui est dévolue, il doit nécessairement se repérer-pour ne pas dire se reconnaître- dans le cadre qui lui est proposé: nous découvrons ici comment cohésion, cohérence et vraissemblance déterminent la familiarisation du lecteur. Son adhésion au monde fictif ou référentiel est enfin parfaite grâce aux nombreuses techniques d'effet de réel et d'harmonie imitative qui donnent au lecteur le sentiment de voir, de sentir ou de ressentir les éléments diégétiques. Au plaisir des sensations s'ajoute le plaisir du rire provoqué par l'ironie grinçante qui caractérise la plupart des ouvrages. The work of the British author Tim PARKS (who resides in Italy) appeals to the reader by its diversity. Autobiographies, pseudo-autobiographies, travel books, epistolary novels and thrillers present male or female protagonists who are their own narrators or guided under a heterodiegetic regime. Whichever genre or voice is adopted, the reader usually enters each new diegetic world with ease thanks to the active guidance of both author and narrator. This narratologic and stylistic study aims at determining and defining which parameters generate this involvement. First, we demonstrate how important the choice of enunciative strategy is: depending on first or third person narrative, the reader will either become the narrator's confidant or accomplice. The reader will also adopt different "postures" depending on the tense chosen. Tim PARKS's quite frequent use of the present tense is in itself rich in significance. For the reader to occupy the place allocated to him, he must find his way through -if not recognize- the given diegetic frame. Here we will show how cohesion, coherence and verisimilitude determine the reader's way of becoming familiar with the new fictional or referential world. His involvement is finally achieved by means of various stylistic devices (realistic effects and imitative harmony) that make the reader believe he can see or feel diegetic elements. Through the biting irony, which is typical of most of his books, Tim PARKS adds the pleasure of laughter to that of feeling. A clever use of both discourse and stylistic technique generates double-entendre through ou the text: it is the reader's task to decipher the implicit and often critical message hidden by a teasing "puppeteer" who continually manipulates his diegetic puppets among whom, we must admit, is the reader

Relationship marketing is a marketing theory that has gathered much focus in the marketing research area lately. The core idea of relationship marketing is to retain the existing customers of a company by establishing long-time relationships with them. The theory of brand equity is a well-known theory on brand development that deals with issues such as customer’s perceptions and the brand meaning. The main purpose of this thesis is to gain deeper understanding of what kind of role the front-line employees in terms of part-time marketers, have on the enhancing of Liseberg´s brand equity. Liseberg holds a special position for the citizens of Gothenburg, and as the biggest amusement park in the Nordic are with 3.1 million visitors in 2014, we argue that theories like relationship marketing and brand equity could be of importance for Liseberg to maintain their position in the minds of their customers. We have also been able to identify a research gap. We discovered that research about the role of part-time marketers in relation to brand equity is relatively scarce. Even more specifically, we have not been able to find studies regarding the role of part-time marketers in the enhancing of the brand equity of an amusement park. We have conducted a qualitative study in order to accomplish the purpose of our thesis. In our study, we conducted nine semi-structured interviews with managers, front-line employees and customers of Liseberg. The interviews helped us gain a deeper understanding on how the role of the front-line employees as part-time marketers was perceived both internally and externally in Liseberg. Data from different customer reports were also provided to us from Liseberg. From our qualitative studies as well as from the data provided by Liseberg, we can conclude that the role of the part-time marketers was perceived differently from the customer’s point of view, compared to what managers and front-line employees thought. Nevertheless according to our findings, we can conclude that part-time marketers have a very important role in the enhancing of Liseberg´s brand equity. Finally we have also made practical recommendations for the management of Liseberg regarding on how to work with the part-time marketer’s concept in mind to improve Liseberg´s brand equity.

O propósito desta dissertação é examinar o desempenho dos empreendedores a tempo parcial, principalmente analisar sua sobrevivência. Recorremos a uma base de dados com dados do empregado-empregador (QP - "Quadros de Pessoal"), e selecionámos todas as novas empresas que se estabeleceram no período de 2000-2007, excluindo todas as organizações sem fins lucrativos, obtendo um total de 41,293 observações. As organizações sem fins lucrativos foram excluídos, porque este estudo incide sobre indivíduos que decidiram se envolver no empreendedorismo a tempo parcial como forma de obter um rendimento adicional. Um empreendedor a tempo parcial é uma pessoa que dedica o seu tempo livre a exercer uma actividade empresarial, enquanto mantém um trabalho regular. A nossa principal conclusão é que as características dos empresários de tempo parcial partilham algumas semelhanças com empresários a tempo integral, principalmente em termos de idade e tamanho da empresa.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of part-time entrepreneurs, more specifically evaluate their survival. We use an employer' employee dataset (QP - "Quadros de Pessoal"), we solemnly select all start-ups established between 2000 and 2007, and exclude nonprofit organizations, obtaining a total of 41,293 observations. The nonprofit organizations were excluded mainly because this study focused on individuals that decided to engage in part-time entrepreneurship as a way to gain an extra income. Part-time entrepreneurs are individuals who dedicate their spare time in engaging in entrepreneurial ventures while maintaining a regular job. Our major finding is that part-time entrepreneurs share some similarities with the full-time entrepreneur's features, mainly in terms of age and firm's size.

El presente trabajo académico, tiene como propósito cubrir las necesidades de todas las familias que debido a su carga laboral no disponen de tiempo para cuidar de sus hijos durante todo el día. Es así, como surge “PART TIME NANAS”, enfocado en brindar un servicio que garantiza el cuidado de niños de 4 a 12 años de edad. El servicio será solicitado a través de la plataforma virtual y se realizará con personal altamente calificado. En el contenido del trabajo, se especifica la idea de negocio y el servicio que se ofrece. Se desarrolla el plan de marketing para analizar las necesidades de nuestro público objetivo y enfocarnos en brindar los servicios solicitados. Asimismo, se analiza el presupuesto de inversión del plan de marketing y la proyección de la demanda para planificar las ventas. En el plan operativo, se establecen las políticas operacionales, la gestión de compras y stock. Además, se analiza la estructura de costos y gastos que incurrirán en la adquisición de los activos fijos, intangibles y proceso operativo. La estructura organizacional, se desarrolla con el fin de constituir la empresa, trazar los objetivos y políticas de la organización, se diseñan las funciones de los puestos y se elabora la estructura de gastos de RRHH. Por último, en el plan financiero, se analiza la rentabilidad, la inversión inicial requerida y el financiamiento necesario para comenzar las operaciones. Esto nos permitirá obtener los indicadores financieros de rentabilidad y así poder determinar la viabilidad del proyecto.
The present academic work, has the purpose to cover the needs of all the families that have a lot of workload and do not have time to take care of their children during the whole day. This is how "PART TIME NANAS" appears, it is focused to offer a service that guarantees the care of children from 4 to 12 years. The service will be requested through the virtual platform and will be carried out with certified staff. This academic work is based in an idea of Business Project and make know us, the services that provides it. The marketing plan is developed to analyze the needs of our target public and the principal focus of it, is to provide requested services. Likewise, in it, we analized the investment of the marketing plan and the projection of the demand with the purpose to make the plan sales. In the part of operative plan, is established the policies company, the purchasing management and the stock management. Also, we analized the structure of costs and the expenses that will be incurred in the acquisition of the fixed and intangible assets, and finally, the productive process. The organizational structure is developed in order to constitute the company, mark the objectives and the company policies, in it design the functions of the jobs and make the expense structure of the area of human resources. Finally, in part of the financial plan, in it we analize the cost effectiveness, the initial investment required and the financing that we need to start operations. It will allow us to obtain the financial indicators of the cost effectiveness and to be able to determine the viability of the academic project.

Currently, some genomas of creatures are being mapping, so enormous amounts of data are being generated. This data is sometimes stored in different data sources and at many times, these sources are heterogeneous and distributed, which results in the necessity of the use of new query techniques and integration of data. After this, the biologists can usufruct greaters and better resources during the research process. This work has the proposal of to build a Bioinformatics environment for the integration of different data sources and their reorganization in a centered source that supports a flexible and efficient manner to build queries. The environment is called as Bio-TIM, which is composed by three layers. The main one is called "Mediator" and it is composed by a connection manager for databases management systems, by wrappers, by a Data Warehouse and by a specific database.
Atualmente, vários genomas de seres vivos estão sendo mapeados gerando enormes quantidades de dados, as quais são armazenadas em diferentes fontes de informações. O fato dos dispositivos de armazenamento de dados serem heterogêneos e distribuídos resulta na necessidade de criação de técnicas de consulta e integração de dados para que os biólogos possam usufruir de maiores e melhores recursos durante o processo de pesquisa. Este trabalho propôs um ambiente de bioinformática para a integração de diferentes fontes de dados e sua reorganização em uma fonte centralizada propiciando consultas flexíveis e eficientes. O ambiente foi denominado Bio-TIM, o qual é composto por três camadas, sendo a principal denominada Mediador . Ela é composta por um gerenciador de conexões a sistemas gerenciadores de bancos de dados, por tradutores, por um Data Warehouse e por um banco de dados específico.

This thesis is concerned with part-time undergraduate students within the higher education system in England. In particular it focusses on the strategies this group of students employ to complete their degrees successfully. I place the experience of successful part-time students at the heart of the thesis because I think that it is vital in the twenty-first century to further our understanding of this heterogeneous group in order to have an accessible higher education system that does not by design discriminate against those who choose a particular mode of study. By doing this I create a collective narrative for part-time students. A small qualitative sample of completed part-time undergraduate students was interviewed to produce the data used herein.

The globalized world of the early 21st century has had great impact on the labour market. Employees of today are faced with many more options then before, increasing staff turnover rates to very high levels. This raises a lot of interesting aspects in how to create affective, mutual and long-lasting employer-employee relationships in the way the world works today. We have identified part-time working students as a key group to investigate since they possess skills and qualifications that is important to retain within an organisation. More particularly, the purpose of this study is to look at part-time working business student and their relationship towards their current employer, their perceptions, and based on that, how likely it is that they will stay within that organisation after graduation. This has led us to our research question:How part-time working business students’ perception of their current employer influences their future career decisions?In the research field of Employee Retention, there is a lack of research on part-time workers, and even more lacking on part-time working students. A theoretical foundation has been created based on different aspects of this subject. Motivational theories, dividing motivation to either Intrinsic or Extrinsic to cover what motivates students in different settings is considered. Branching from motivational theories, the Expectancy theory is used to analyse the reasoning between potential outcomes, in this case job alternatives. As decisions regarding job alternatives shapes the future careers of young workers, research on career decisions with a focus on students, point out specific implications regarding the target group. Finally, to complement our foundation with research regarding the students’ relationship with their current employers, research on Employee Retention adds different predictors of staff turnover. Those predictors are used in order to understand why students say or leave an organisation.In order to answer our research question and to gain deep understanding, we have conducted qualitative interviews with business student at Umeå University. The interviewed students all have different part-time jobs, as to cover as many different organisations as possible. The study shows that part-time working students are influenced in their career decisions by their perception of their current employers and experiences from the job. Regardless of positive or negative experience, intrinsic aspects are desired from future careers, as well as development opportunities. The extent to which the organisation shows an interest in the students’ future development also influences the students’ attitude towards the organisation. However, regarding staying in the current organisations after graduation, the students are faced with issues beyond their control, like geographical complications.

This project started with my naive and utopian hypothesis: 'Is there any one experience, equally memorable for everybody, that affects people‘s ordinary lives in a meaningful way afterward?‘ To explore this matter from multiple angles, I needed a research location that already had strongly staged experiences with a clear theme, diverse actors, and its own narratives. And I hit upon the right place: Disneyland Paris. To discuss 'the experience‘, I categorized peoples‘ different impressions of their experiences at Disneyland Paris. When I interviewed staff and visitors on their way out of Disneyland Paris, some people said that their experience had been awful, while others said it had been fantastic. What makes for such different responses to the same place? Two theorists declare, 'Experiences are inherently personal and no two people can have the same experience, because each experience derives from the interaction between the staged event (like a theatrical play) and the individual‘s state of mind‘ (Pine Ⅱand Gilmore, 1998). Since the individual‘s state of mind cannot be grasped and is a broad research term, in this thesis I am mostly concerned with the key experience-generating elements: age and social role. The ultimate purpose of this project is to investigate the pre-and post-experience at the entrance and exit of a given venue for a special experience with a clear theme, that bridge connecting visitors‘ and staff‘s everyday experiences to the staged experience. The practical outcome of this research-led project consists mainly of various trials of a procession that engages visitors at the borders of the venue. This research will consist of the following: 1) Analytical reflection upon visitors‘ and staff‘s one-day experience in a Disney theme park, based on narrative structure and perception of time, 2) Observations of different time perceptions in adults and children, 3) Definition of flow of experience (pre-experience / main experience / post-experience), and 4) Presentation of a new model of participatory stories in a given theme1 to smooth the flow of experience. 1Disneyland Paris was my chosen site for the theoretical background, and the practical methodologies are developed through Konstfack‘s 2011 spring exhibition. What this project intends to do, however, is not to upgrade the experiences in both, but rather to focus on the experiments in order to vary the existing definitions of the flow of experience. The final outcome is intended to be applied to the diverse venues that aim to offer their visitors special experiences with a clear theme. This has been an in-depth exploration of how experience design can be applied as a renewing force, or 'twist‘, to help people experience immersive moments and to gain unforgettable memories which, in turn, influence their future experiences.

Research question: How can experience design be used to connect the daily experience of visitors and staff with memorable commercially staged experiences in an existing theme park (e.g. Disneyland Paris)?

By adopting a ring topology and optical switches we propose a novel protection mechanism for time division multiplexed passive optical network (TDM-PON) that provides resilience against multiple network fails. Some protection schemes have been proposed in order to give resilience for passive optical network (PON) as defined at ITU-T Recommendation G983.1. However that recommendation defines the optical distribution network (ODN) and equipment duplication to protect it against multiple points of fail. We propose a ring topology with dual fibers paths capable to protect the network by switching these lines individually according to the local alarms detected by each optical network unit (ONU). According to our proposal neither equipment nor network should be duplicated to provide survivability to the system.
Adotando uma topologia em anel e chaves ópticas, estamos propondo um novo mecanismo de proteção para redes ópticas passivas TDM (Time Division Multiplexed) que possibilita a proteção da rede contra múltiplos pontos de falha. Muitos esquemas de proteção foram propostos para dar confiabilidade para as redes ópticas passivas como definido pela recomendação ITUT G.983.1. Para permitir proteção contra múltiplos pontos de falhas a recomendação ITU-T define a duplicação da rede óptica (ODN) e equipamento. Apresentamos, então, uma topologia em anel com dois caminhos ópticos distintos protegendo a rede pela comutação individual destas linhas de acordo com a detecção de alarmes locais por cada Optical Network Unit (ONU). Conforme nossa proposta, nem o equipamento ou a rede precisam ser duplicadas para prover proteção do sistema.

There are increasing numbers of Australian nurses working in part-time employment. This is important in a background where contemporary nursing shortages are a considerable barrier to the provision of adequate nursing personnel to meet nursing service demands. An accurate understanding of the situation of part-time nursing is necessary to enable effective human resource management of this segment of the nursing workforce. However, a paucity of available knowledge related to Australian part-time nursing represented a serious gap in the information required for effective and efficient management. Therefore the aim of this study was to discover and describe phenomena and develop theory that explains the ‘realities’ of part-time nursing in regional Queensland. Strauss and Corbin’s (1998) version of the grounded theory approach and methods were used to conduct this study. A sample of 86 regional Queensland part-time nurses and 18 nurse managers and nurse educators provided data that permitted the discovery of a substantive theory of part-time nursing. This theory has contributed knowledge relevant to practitioners in the substantive area by discovering, describing and explaining the phenomenon of part-time nursing, the conditions that influence the phenomenon and the responses that are made to adapt and adjust to the associated challenges. The developed grounded theory represents a significant contribution to the meagre base of knowledge that previously existed by offering insight, enhancing understanding and providing a valuable guide to action.

Despite research indicating high levels of job satisfaction reducing turnover in the working community, there is limited research regarding the factors which attribute to job satisfaction of athletic trainers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting athletic trainers. Full-time Board of Certification certified athletic trainers of the Atlantic Coast Conference were sent a copy of the Job Satisfaction Survey electronically. The results show that athletic trainers are more satisfied than the average American and the average medical professional. They also show the most important factors to job satisfaction of athletic trainers are amount of help, hours worked, and institution type. This research and accompanying recommendations will decrease the level of turnover in the athletic training population.

This study analizes the cultural events role as a powerful element for socialization on branding strategy communication to the market. Main objectives was to delineate the use of Marketing Integrated Communication as a tenable differential, the Cultural Marketing faces new ways to communicate to the competitive market, the branding contextualization and the cultural events as a branding instrument. The methodology used enfolded bibliography, documental research, questions and a case study of Tim Company, with the Tim Festival, 2005 edition in São Paulo. Among the conclusions, it was confirmed that the traditional publicity is losing to events, but, at the same time, just events are not sufficient, there are the necessity to work together with others promotional activities. It was verified too that cultural events communicate the message on an enthusiastic way, and finally, the considerations about the rewarding relation of event to the branding memory.(AU)
Este estudo analisa o papel dos eventos culturais como um potente elemento socializador na estratégia da comunicação da marca com o mercado. os principais objetivos são retratar o uso da comunicação integrada de marketing como um diferencial sustentável, o marketing cultural frente às novas formas de comunicação com o mercado, a contextualização da marca e os eventos culturais como instrumento de branding. A metodologia desta pesquisa constitui-se em bibliografia, pesquisa documental, entrevistas e o estudo de caso da empresa Tim com o recorte Tim Festival edição 2005 em São Paulo. Dentre as conclusões encontradas, confirmou-se que a propaganda tradicional vem perdendo espaço para os eventos, mas ao mesmo tempo, por si só não se bastam, havendo a necessidade de atrelá-los a outras atividades promocionais. Verificou-se também que os eventos culturais comunicam a mensagem de forma envolvente e finalmente a consideração sobre a relação gratificante do evento com a lembrança de marca.(AU)

Part-time faculty members represent the majority of faculty at public two-year postsecondary institutions. Utilizing part-time faculty enables two-year institutions to control their instructional costs and maintain scheduling flexibility. However, part-time faculty are diverse in regards to their employment preference, some prefer part-time employment while others would prefer a full-time position. Since retaining and attracting qualified and experienced part-time faculty members is essential, it is imperative that their satisfaction be understood. This study uses the 2004 National Study of Postsecondary Faculty (NSOPF: 04) to study faculty satisfaction. Faculty was disaggregated according to employment preference into full-time, involuntary part-time, and voluntary part-time in order to study the structure of satisfaction for each group and the factors that influence the satisfaction for each group. The factors studied were perception of equity, partial inclusion, demographic differences and academic discipline. I found that the structure of faculty satisfaction and the influence of variables on faculty satisfaction differ among full-time, involuntary part-time, and voluntary part-time faculty.

Research question: How has the presence of PT employees affected the role of managers in the Swedish food retail business? Research purpose: The purpose of this paper was to describe the change that accompanies part-time employment from a management perspective, and particularly, describe how the presence of part-time employment has influenced the role of the manager within the Swedish food retail business. Conceptual framework: The main focused in this chapter is directed towards the role of managers. The basis of the conceptual framework consist of the model developed by Mintzberg including the ten managerial roles and Quinn's eight leadership roles and how the presence of PT employments might affect these roles. Methodology: In this paper, the authors adopted a qualitative design and used narrative inquiry as a research strategy in order to gain a deep understanding of the context. Semi- structured interviews have been collected through a self-selection sampling and the total number of participants was ten. Conclusions: Based on the findings of this paper the presence of PT employees have not influenced and changed the role of managers. The changes that have influenced and caused the change of the role of the managers constitutes of the increased workload, the delegations of tasks and responsibilities, changed positions, the change of the organisational structure of the individual store, and the increased workforce.
