A pilot teleradiology project was established for the medical service providers at the Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) in Hawaii. It connected them with radiologists at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) on the island of Oahu, approximately 400 km away. This involved changing the standard practice of sending soldiers from the PTA to a civilian hospital in Hilo for radiographs. These emergency trips to Hilo, 55 km away, were expensive, manpower intensive, and dangerous due to road and weather conditions. During 51 days of a training exercise involving 2600 personnel, 29 evacuations were avoided, which would have cost $36,569 in total. The expected savings during one year of training were $176,540. The cost of teleradiology during the first year, including the cost of the equipment, was $167,203. Over five years, the costs and savings were estimated to be $349,940 and $882,700, respectively.

The discipline of emergency medicine includes the field of disaster medicine. Unfortunately, little actual emphasis is placed upon this vital area of training in emergency medical residency programs aside from nominal involvement in mock hospital-community disaster drills and triage exercises. In addition to these important areas of disaster medicine, physicians must be knowledgeable in field medical sanitation, environmental illnesses, ground and aero-medical evacuation, epidemiology and logistics in addition to hands on emergency medical casualty care. To better serve this important neglected area of the emergency medicine residency curriculum, we developed a one-month block of instruction. The operational medicine course is composed of separate instructional modules. The emphasis of the field medical training is obviously a military one; however, that emphasis is easily translated into a field medical environment, one that is commonly employed in military disaster relief operations. The American armed forces, particularly the US Army, frequently come to the aid of victims of both civil and natural disasters. This humanitarian assistance also serves the readiness training goals of the Army Medical Department during peacetime.

The article deals with the combat rations used in the Army of the Czech Republic to ensure the feeding of soldiers in field training. The author describes the division according to the STANAG 2937 standard and points to the problem arising from the storage of combat rations under extreme climatic conditions. In these conditions, microbiological, chemical and biochemical changes occur on some food components. For this reason, the article describes and suggests some changes in the composition of combat rations, depending on the area of possible deployment of Czech army forces.

November 2008. It is 4am and i am sitting in a shallow grave keeping watch at the perimeter of a harbour area, ostensibly keeping an eye out for the 'enemy'. This is a new and wholly unfamiliar aspect to my life starting out as an army surgeon. The situation is the heathland exercise area behind the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and the 'enemy' are the instructing staff, who assured us that they would be watching us with night vision scopes. 'Do NOT fall asleep,' they commanded. Well, i could not do so even if i wanted to, thanks to periodic unstoppable shivering.

The former military area Ralsko was created after the World War II on the territory formerly populated by Germans. The area was poor with negligible industry only. It was intended to serve as a training ground for cooperation between infantry troops and various armored vehicles in varied landscapes. Soviet Army used the area since 1968. As a result, the military use of Ralsko became more intensive and some areas were used beyond the possible limits. As there were great numbers of soldiers and hazardous materials were handled without care, serious environmental damages occurred. Much money has been spent by the Czechoslovak/Czech state in order to reduce contamination and to treat environmental impacts. The former military area should be revitalized carefully so that our descendants would find this area pleasant and enjoying.

This article presents the opinions of Pomeranian Academy students about military training organized as a part of the Academic Legion and their subjective view on this training and the perspective of working in the army. In the study, special attention was paid to the strengths and weaknesses of the first edition of the theoretical program carried out at the Pomeranian University and practical carried out at the training center in Ustka. An additional motive for undertaking the study was the exploration of the university environment, especially the attempt to determine the level of preparation of students to perform roles in the army, which allowed to examine the feelings and attitudes of students to the program of the Academic Legion and develop six recommendations for its change. The research problem is the question: How do students evaluate the program of the Academic Legion? Due to the lack of research in this area, no hypothesis was adopted. The research method was a diagnostic survey conducted using a survey technique using the author’s own questionnaire.

This symposium consists of four related presentations on the application of computer conferencing to Army training. These presentations will be followed by a short presentation by a distinguished discussant. It should be noted that the work being reported was performed for the United States Army Research Institute (ARI). The first presentation provides an overview of computer conferencing, discusses the training needs of the Army Reserve Component (RC), and looks at the potential match between the capabilities of computer conferencing and the RC training needs. A brief introduction is given of the first year's research study conducted by the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) in support of ARI. A two-group design was adopted to look at the effects of augmenting an existing correspondence course with computer conferencing. The second presentation discusses the data obtained from the study and presents preliminary results (the online class has been completed but the correspondence tests have not all been submitted nor have the study-related posttests and retention tests been completed by all the subjects). The types of data presented and discussed include activity data which was gathered as the online course proceeded, various kinds of survey data, and performance and completion data. The third presentation looks at the online course experience using process observation technique. Some results of the analysis to date are presented, with various examples from the online transcripts illustrating the types of behaviors and interpersonnel interactions observed. The examples are woven together with commentary and clarifying notes. The final presentation is a summary of lessons learned and a list of “gaps” that need to be filled by further research. As with many new areas, what is known at this point in time is overshadowed by what is not known. Important areas needing further research include instructor training and selection, course adaptation methods (how to take existing content and objectives and teach them via computer conferencing), and the entire area of logistics (including hardware, software, and support). As a result of the first year's efforts, the researchers are soberly aware of the difficulties and costs associated with using computer conferencing for training but are also optimistic that given the appropriate type of content, properly trained instructors, willing students, and sufficient logistical support, there is a real place for this technology in delivering training to the Army reserve component.

They sat in the Cubberley Education Lecture Hall to hear visiting experts. More often they could be found meeting in reduced-size classes, or working on small-group activities. They usually took notes; sometimes they took field trips. They memorized lists and sat for exams, but they also watched films and acted out scenarios. Rather than take regular courses in the disciplines, they studied an integrated curriculum referred to as “Area Relationships.” Some faculty collaborated, team taught, and drew on students' prior knowledge. Even some administrators joined in the role-playing for the big culminating activity. The head of the program explained the reason for such a break from the traditional Stanford experience: “Special effort must be made to supply the student with points of view and methods of procedure which will enable him most quickly and most surely to survey a situation, analyze a problem, and formulate a solution.”

It is very important to use combat simulation in personnel training and preparing them for different war scenarios. Simulation modeling and analysis methodologies gives an opportunity to staff officers and commanders to measure the effectiveness of their plans and take necessary precautions. In a simulated environment, different combat scenarios can be tried without actually deploying the units to the combat area and getting ‘losts, costs, and risks’. As one of the most complicated and decisive operations on the road to victory, ‘air assault operations’ are high-risk, high-payoff operations that, when properly planned and vigorously executed, allow commanders to take the initiative in combat areas. In this study, we develop a simulation system called the Air Assault Operations Simulation Model (AAOSM) that allows planners to: (1) analyze air assault operations early in the decision process and refine those models as their decision process evolves, (2) perform ‘ bottleneck analysis’ of the preplanned operations, and (3) perform ‘ risk management’ of the operation before conducting the real operation. AAOSM is developed by using the ARENA simulation programming language. The outputs of the model are analyzed using statistical methods. The factors that have significant effect on air assault operations are identified. The possible scenarios are also evaluated for different weather and terrain conditions and for various refueling and maintenance configurations.

The main idea of this article is that the Supreme Otaman Symon Petliura School (alias "Svitlana") attached to the "Sich" (later Ivan Bogun) Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) Detachment was one of the first non-commissioned officers schools within the UPA created to reinforce its troops with combat leaders independently. The author's purpose was to understand how the partisan army trained its NCOs at early stages of its development. The article illustrates that the Symon Petliura NCOs School was established on May, 30 1943 and operated until January, 18 1944. In the course of this period, it managed to train two classes of cadets of about 150 men, who subsequently became section and platoon leaders, and military instructors. The training was conducted in Svynaryn Forest on the edge of Verba and Turiysk districts in Volhynia Oblast (guerilla camp "Sich"), and lasted for 10 hours daily. It included: drill, marksmanship and weapon studies, tactical training, guard service, military discipline and army regulations studies. Cadets with best results were taken to continue their studies in UPA officers schools. Not only did cadets study theory but also they had to engage in warfare along with UPA combatant forces. The "Svitlana" School took part in fights of Antonivka, Koniukhy and Radovychi (with Nazi troops); Stavky (with Soviet partisans) and Dominopol, Zasmyky and Kupychiv (Kupiczów, with Polish partisans). When the tension of warfare was at its peak, the NCOs School stopped its educative process and operated as fighting element. During its lifetime, the NCOs School was subordinate to the "Sich" Detachment staff, Prince Sviatoslav Battalion of the Ivan Bogun Detachment and Ivan Bogun Detachment staff directly. After the detachment had been defeated by the Soviet partisans in January, 1944, the NCOs School ceased to exist. Supreme Otaman Symon Petliura NCOs School became a part of UPA training system and provided combat leaders for insurgent units operating within Volodymyr and Gorokhiv OUN District area.

International humanitarian law (IHL) applies at times of armed conflict, placing legal obligations on all warring parties that are designed to limit the inhumanity of warfare. Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal with the mandate to control an armed struggle occurred or likely to occur in any part of Nepal, to control armed rebellion or separatist activities or likely to occur in any part of Nepal, and to provide assistance in case of external intervention being under the Nepali Army, can at any time become a party in both international and non-international armed conflict. APF’s role in UN Peacekeeping Missions is also an area where it may have to engage with non-state actors if and when situation demands. All these necessitate APF personnel to have proper understanding and compliance to the principles of IHL, violation of which can increase human suffering and consequent individual criminal responsibility and command responsibility. In light of this, it concludes the IHL specific trainings in APF, Nepal should be maintained and augmented to ensure broad and better understanding and respect for IHL in times of conflict.

Use of a health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) is one method the Department of Defense is investigating to meet conflicting cost and performance goals for Army wheeled vehicles. One area where a HUMS would be of great benefit is monitoring critical components vulnerable to terrain-induced fatigue. While strain is typically the desired input to a fatigue model, acceleration sensors are less susceptible to damage from the military ground vehicle environment and provide more reliable data over long periods of usage. The feasibility of using vibratory inputs from an accelerometer to make component fatigue predictions for a military wheeled vehicle system is explored in this study, and the use of limited subsets of data for algorithm training are evaluated. An example component is used to demonstrate that the proposed HUMS algorithms are appropriate and provide suitably accurate fatigue predictions.

Innovative technology has been an important part of firefighting, as it advances firefighters’ safety and effectiveness. Prior research has examined the implementation of training systems using augmented reality (AR) in other domains, such as welding, aviation, army, and mathematics, offering significant pedagogical affordances. Nevertheless, firefighting training systems using AR are still an under-researched area. The increasing penetration of AR for training is the driving force behind this study, and the scope is to analyze the main aspects affecting the acceptance of AR by firefighters. The current research uses a technology acceptance model, extended by the external constructs of perceived interactivity and personalization, to consider both the system and individual level. The proposed model was evaluated by a sample of 200 users, and the results show that both the external variables of perceived interactivity and perceived personalization are prerequisite factors in extending the TAM model. The findings reveal that the usability is the strongest predictor of firefighters’ behavioral intentions to use the AR system, followed by the ease of use with smaller, yet meaningful, direct and indirect effects on firefighters’ intentions. The identified acceptance factors help AR developers enhance the firefighters’ experience in training operations.

The return of the local democracy to the military training areas raises a number of complex challenges even under the conditions of a democratic state. In the municipalities that were established in the Czech Republic on 1 January 2016 by a separation from the territory of the military training areas, a nondemocratic paternalist system has dominated for many decades at the local level, which in some cases was deepened by a presence of the foreign Soviet army. While other municipalities in the post-communist period after 1989 have undergone a complex development and have gradually responded to new challenges (e.g., the use of subsidy titles, intermunicipal cooperation), and, in the case of the settlements in the territory of the military training area districts, nondemocratic local paternalism was preserved until the end of 2015. In the first phase of their term, the elected representatives of the local government primarily focused on securing the basic functions of the municipality (issues of housing and basic amenities of the village—school facilities, shops), saving local sights as remnants of historical memory, and developing cooperation within different networks of actors on a general level (e.g., issues of tourism development, environmental protection).

And how did it affect the relations between politic and the military in the Cisalpino-Italic system? In the first area special attention s given to the Italian tradition of military academies and especially to the model represented by the Collegio militare of Verona; in the second field the case of Modena is used to emphasize the difficulties and contradictions arising as a consequence of the predominance of the French influence.Parole chiave: esercito; periodo napoleonico; ingegneri; Scuola di Modena.Key Words: Army; Napoleonic age; engineers; Modena military School.

The skeletal response to short-term exercise training remains poorly described. We thus studied the lower limb skeletal response of 723 Caucasian male army recruits to a 12-wk training regime. Femoral bone volume was assessed using magnetic resonance imaging, bone ultrastructure by quantitative ultrasound (QUS), and bone mineral density (BMD) using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) of the hip. Left hip BMD increased with training (mean ± SD: 0.85 ± 3.24, 2.93 ± 4.85, and 1.89 ± 2.85% for femoral neck, Ward's area, and total hip, respectively; all P < 0.001). Left calcaneal broadband ultrasound attenuation rose 3.57 ± 0.5% ( P < 0.001), and left and right femoral cortical volume by 1.09 ± 4.05 and 0.71 ± 4.05%, respectively ( P = 0.0001 and 0.003), largely through the rise in periosteal volume (0.78 ± 3.14 and 0.59 ± 2.58% for right and left, respectively, P < 0.001) with endosteal volumes unchanged. Before training, DXA and QUS measures were independent of limb dominance. However, the dominant femur had higher periosteal (25,991.49 vs. 2,5572 mm3, P < 0.001), endosteal (6,063.33 vs. 5,983.12 mm3, P = 0.001), and cortical volumes (19,928 vs. 19,589.56 mm3, P = 0.001). Changes in DXA, QUS, and magnetic resonance imaging measures were independent of limb dominance. We show, for the first time, that short-term exercise training in young men is associated not only with a rise in human femoral BMD, but also in femoral bone volume, the latter largely through a periosteal response.

The paper focuses on developing of cadets' language training (CLT) in the professional military education (PME) schools in the framework of the Ukraine-NATO and Ukraine-EU academic military cooperation. It identifies an urgent need in improving the language training of cadets due to the contradictions between the required level of language proficiency for future officers (level 2 according to STANAG 6001) and insufficient foreign language skills of a considerable number of graduates from Ukrainian PME schools. Academic military cooperation is considered as important area of activities to domestic and partner-nation PME schools. Its main objective is to ensure integration of national military education in the global educational space. Such cooperation is mutually beneficial and allows Ukraine to develop capacity to influence the international security system; improve the Ukrainian Army operational capabilities and acquire interoperability with NATO forces. The main means to achieve these goals are implementing the Euro-Atlantic standards, perfecting the Ukrainian servicemen training, including improving CLT. The paper examines the key directions of the Ukrainian academic military cooperation with NATO and EU in developing CLT in the framework of adopted programs. It describes main aspects of these projects and their implementation mechanisms as well as key advantages, opportunities and achievements of such cooperation. Based on the effectiveness assessment of existing academic military cooperation programs, it was concluded that they have a positive impact on improving the CLT with use of open access to training resources, intellectual achievements, modern training technologies and best practices of partner countries. The main tasks for further development of the academic military cooperation include perfecting support to CLT, improving professional development of the faculty and implementing innovative forms of education.

Category: Ankle, Hindfoot Introduction/Purpose: The prevalence of Achilles tendon pathology is common in many sports and daily activities. From ruptures to overuse injuries resulting in tendonopathies, AT dysfunction can result in disability and reduced productively. Continued research that increases our knowledge base of normal Achilles tendon properties can improve our ability to reduce and prevent future AT injuries. In this study, we examined the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the Achilles tendon (AT) at multiple levels in an asymptomatic population of elite American military service members that participate in greater than 20 hours of intense training per week. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study composed of 41 active duty United States Army Rangers. The Rangers are a specialized infantry organization that participates in extensive military training and rigorous combat missions. The service members were voluntarily recruited to participate while deployed in a combat theater. All subjects were members of the Ranger Regiment participating in greater than 20 hours of intense bipedal non-sport weekly training with no history of AT pathology. In a standing position, each subject had bilateral Achilles insertion marked along with additional skin markings made at 2 cm, 4 cm, and 6 cm above the AT insertion. At all four levels, the AT was measured in the coronal and sagittal plains using ultrasound. Results: In 41 subjects, a total of 82 Achilles tendons were examined. The mean age of the cohort was 26 years, 70 inches tall, with a mean weight of 187 pounds. The mean sagittal thickness of the AT at the insertion was 4.3 mm, 2 cm above the insertion is was 4.3 mm, 4 cm above the insertion is was 4.2 mm, and at 6 cm above the insertion it was 4 mm. In the coronal plain was 19.1 mm, 14.3 mm, 13.5 mm, and 14.4 mm respectively. The cross-sectional area was calculated at each respective level: 0.65 cm2, 0.48 cm2, 0.44 cm2 and 0.45 cm2. The non-dominant ankle was slightly larger at each level but was not found to be statistically significant. Conclusion: These results provide the mean sagittal and coronal diameters of the Achilles tendon as measured by ultrasound throughout the watershed area of a young active adult male population. Our data also suggest that increased non-sport activity may not increase the cross-sectional area of the Achilles tendon. Identifying the normal diameter at multiple levels throughout the most commonly injured area can potentially improve the provider’s ability to identify early disease processes and apply targeted interventions to help slow or prevent progression and possible rupture.

Abstract Introduction The impact of sleep disorders on active duty Soldiers’ medical readiness is clinically significant. Sleep disorders present high comorbidity with disease states directly impacting medical readiness, ranging from musculoskeletal injury (MSK-I), obesity, and drug dependence. The current study performed a risk assessment of sleep disorder comorbidity with MSK-I, obesity, and drug dependence across active duty United States Army installations. Methods Health incidences (percent active duty per installation) were queried from the Office of the Surgeon General Health of the Force (HoF) report, specifically for Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 (n = 471,000; 85.5% male, > 70% between 18 -34). Nonparametric ranked tests identified active duty Army installations at low risk (green; < 25% percentile relative to mean rank), moderate risk (amber; 25% - 50%), and high risk (red; > 75% percentile). Linear regressions determined extent of comorbidity of sleep disorders with MSK-I, obesity, and drug dependence (tobacco use and substance abuse). Results Mean rank comparisons for sleep disorders vs. injury index (p=0.499), obesity (p=0.306), tobacco use (p=0.378), and substance abuse (p=0.591) did not differ for each installation. Further, there was a high degree of co-morbidity for mean percentage of diagnosed sleep disorder with injury index (p<0.001; r2 = 0.517), obesity (p<0.001; r2 = 0.963), tobacco use (p<0.001; r2 = 0.928), and substance abuse (p<0.001; r2 = 0.968). Conclusion In general, large infantry and artillery training units located in the Southeastern United States were “in the red” for not meeting medical readiness standards. A few exceptions include Virginia-Maryland triangle, a heavily populated area. These data demonstrate strong geographical influences on health risk comorbidity in active duty Soldiers comparable to civilian sectors. Support Military Operational Medicine Research Program

The article is based on the analysis of the main factors taking place at this time, substantiates the relevance of determining (clarifying) the requirements for professional training of military specialists trained in higher military educational institutions in the field of knowledge "Military Sciences, National Security, State Border Security". The study is based on the fact that at present the general list of requirements for military specialists is defined in the relevant professional standards, standards of higher education and educational programs for their training in each specialty at certain levels of education. These requirements are formulated in terms of competencies and learning outcomes. The purpose of the study is to try to justify the feasibility of implementing the experience of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) and the Joint Forces (JFO) operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in determining the requirements for professional training of officers. It is established that the level of training and the general list of competencies that a graduate of a military educational institution has does not fully meet the needs of the modern army. This is clearly evidenced by the experience of hostilities in eastern Ukraine. Analysis of hostilities has shown that the list of tasks to be solved by the military is constantly expanding. Today, in addition to combat missions, they are increasingly involved in solving problems of a socio-humanitarian nature, which requires the formation of both professional and social components of the potential of the soldier's personality. Along with the increase in the requirements for the general level of professional training of military specialists, new requirements for their social and humanitarian training appear. The following new requirements for training are considered: raising the level of leadership qualities of an officer; formation of his personal values and clear personal goals; the ability to counteract the information and psychological influences of the enemy within the information confrontation; ability to establish communications between military units and the local population in the area of hostilities, etc. The analysis is carried out and the essence of the specified requirements is revealed. To solve the research tasks, a system of general scientific and special methods of theoretical and empirical research was used, namely theoretical and methodological analysis of the problem, systematization and generalization of information concerning the essence and content of certain tasks, monitoring of the existing system of military training. system approach, expert evaluation, analysis and interpretation of the obtained empirical data.

A six-county region in northeastern Alabama put together one of the United States’ most progressive efforts to assist the special-needs population in preparing for and protecting themselves against emergencies. The region is host to a US Army depot that stores and incinerates an aging chemical weapons stockpile, the release of chemical weapons agent from which could pose a threat to the surrounding area. Almost a decade ago, the counties collectively agreed to provide their most vulnerable residents—those with physical, medical, or mental disabilities or those lacking transportation who have no family, neighbors, or friends nearby—with emergency preparedness assistance equal to or greater than that provided to the general population. Due to their immediate proximity to the depot, two counties faced the greatest challenge in providing “maximum protection” to their residents. These counties made substantial adjustments to the protective-equipment distribution process and to the public training process for those residents with special needs. Self-sufficiency is sustained through repeated, empathetic contact between emergency management personnel and the special-needs population with additional specialized resources deployed on a proactive basis throughout the region.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) is an emerging human pathogen, endemic in areas of China, Japan, and the Korea (KOR). It is primarily transmitted through infected ticks and can cause a severe hemorrhagic fever disease with case fatality rates as high as 30%. Despite its high virulence and increasing prevalence, molecular and functional studies in situ are scarce due to the limited availability of high-titer SFTSV exposure stocks. During the course of field virologic surveillance in 2017, we detected SFTSV in ticks and in a symptomatic soldier in a KOR Army training area. SFTSV was isolated from the ticks producing a high-titer viral exposure stock. Through the use of advanced genomic tools, we present here a complete, in-depth characterization of this viral stock, including a comparison with both the virus in its arthropod source and in the human case, and an in vivo study of its pathogenicity. Thanks to this detailed characterization, this SFTSV viral exposure stock constitutes a quality biological tool for the study of this viral agent and for the development of medical countermeasures, fulfilling the requirements of the main regulatory agencies.

The Kaili are a native of Palu - Central Sulawesi and are one of the target groups for sharing the gospel. According to observations and empirical data in the field, the Kaili tribe consists of three groups with a variety of cultures. The three groups are often referred to as the Da'a, the Ledo and the Tara. In terms of religion and belief, there are very striking differences. The Kaili Da'a are almost entirely Christian. The Kaili Ledo people, only a small proportion are Christians, some are Muslim and ethnic beliefs. The people of Kaili Tara are almost entirely Muslim, in fact almost none are Christians. The existence of the majority Christian Kaili Da'a is the success of the Salvation Army church in carrying out their mission to preach the Gospel. There are a number of principles, methods and approaches that have been carried out by the Salvation Army in this regard. This makes the Salvation Army the largest church in Palu, and has the most extensive service area compared to other churches. The number of small church opened up to the mountain peaks is evidence of the success of this church in carrying out world missions. An exploratory study of the evangelistic methods of a church that has proven successful in carrying out the mission of evangelism is very important. It is said so, because through this study one can learn how a church begins evangelistic activities, what methods it has used, what obstacles it has passed until the church has succeeded in preaching the gospel to a community group. Preaching the gospel for the Kaili tribe is something very important to do. In front of us there is still another group that has various similarities with Kaili Da'a people who do not know the gospel. The Kaili Tara people and some Kaili Ledo people also need to hear the gospel message. The success of the Salvation Army Church in reaching the Kaili Da'a will be a case study, especially for finding effective evangelistic patterns or methods for other Kaili tribes. The first step in this study was carried out by analyzing the Evangelical Church evangelistic model of the Kaili Da'a tribe. The results of the analysis of the model provide answers to the search for relevant methods to preach the gospel among other Kaili tribes who have not yet heard the gospel. Second, implement evangelistic strategies or patterns that are used to serve as models for evangelizing other Kaili tribal groups. It is hoped that someone or an evangelistic organization that will evangelize the Kaili tribe will not get too many difficulties, because there is already a model that can be used as a guide. The use of methods in scientific research is very important. Therefore, the writing of this scientific paper will use two methods. The two methods are: first, library research method. The procedure adopted in this case is by reading books or articles relating to evangelism by the Salvation Church, reading books written by experts regarding the topic of evangelistic service, and reading books directly related to the topic of discussion Second, field research methods. In this method will use participan obvervation procedures and interviews with people involved in Salvation Army church evangelism activities. In addition, by looking for reliable data regarding the results of evangelism conducted by the alvation Army stionnaires containing questions related to the topic of discussion will be distributed to Salvation Army church leaders and activists directly related to the evangelistic ministry and will be returned to the author for further processing. From the field research through the questionnaire it was concluded that the most instrumental aspect in evangelizing the Kaili Da'a tribe was through the visit of officers, then personal evangelism by the officers and also through the testimony of the Salvation Church. It is evident that the service of the officers has a very important role in evangelizing the Kaili tribe. That is why the author advised the Salvation Army to improve the quality of officers. Provisioning and training as well as increasing the resources of the officers should be carried out in a consistent and directed activity. In general, the authors see that the Salvation Army succeeded in introducing and guiding the Kaili Da'a community to accept the Lord Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Furthermore, the authors advise that these service activities be continued in a directed and consistent manner. In addition, pastoral care of the congregation that has accepted the Lord Jesus needs to be improved so that the congregation's understanding of Jesus grows and the Church becomes a strong believer in facing all the challenges of life.

AbstractThe progress of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is still severe. While everyone has been striving very hard to combat the pandemic, some healthcare professionals have shown varying degrees of infection symptoms and even died. The Chinese Army Medical Aid Team arrived in Wuhan on January 25, 2020, and quickly entered the battle against the pandemic after a short and rigorous training. As one of the earliest medical teams to enter the pandemic area, researchers have been exploring effective infection control measures that are currently in practice. Through observation and research, it has been noticed that layers of protective equipment have a hidden danger of infection while protecting the safety of the personnel. The members of each medical team have typically focused on the standard use of personal protective equipment (PPE). However, after a long period of intensive diagnosis and treatment in clinics and due to physical exertion and tiredness, problems such as improper operation are prone to occur during the tedious PPE doffing, thereby producing a relatively high risk of infection. This study primarily analyzes PPE doffing procedures, existing problems, and measures for improvement to explore methods to improve PPE donning and doffing and reduce the risk of infection.

Background. With the continuous improvement of the modernization of the Chinese military and the major adjustments made by the state to the recruitment policy, the newly recruited military undergone multiple pressures such as targeted high-intensity military training and environmental changes. The mental health of military has become a crucial factor of improving the fighting capacity effectiveness of the troops. Objectives. To explore occupational stress of young recruits in the Xinjiang plateau environment during their basic military training period and analyze the relationship between occupational stress and secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) levels. Methods. Using multistage stratified cluster random sampling, 625 recruits stationed at Xinjiang plateau command in 2014 were enrolled as subjects. Occupational stress was assessed by the Occupational Stress Inventory Revised Edition (OSI-R). sIgA in saliva was quantified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The resulting data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, nonparametric tests, and correlation analysis. Results. Based on demographic characteristics, occupational stress was higher in the urban group than the rural group, coping ability for stress was greater in individuals who were students before joining the army than nonstudents, occupational stress was higher in smokers than nonsmokers, and coping ability for stress was higher in nonsmokers than in smokers (all P<0.05). Being an only child, educational level and age were not significantly related to occupational stress scores (P>0.05). Salivary sIgA level was higher in the high occupational stress group than in the low stress group (P<0.01). Salivary sIgA was positively correlated with scores on the occupational role and personal strain questionnaires (rs=0.229, rs=0.268, P<0.01). Conclusion. Demographic characteristics influenced occupational stress among young recruits in cold and high-altitude area. Further, there were some relationships between occupational stress and salivary sIgA in young military recruits.

World War II was the largest military conflict in the human history. This conflict affected both military relations between states and the development of the armed forces of many countries. The Air Force had the greatest development, including the RAF, which made Great Britain famous in the aftermath of the war by having a decisive influence on its outcome. The Air Force's missions included destroying enemy personnel and facilities, providing air cover for the Army and the Navy, as well as conducting air transfers and air reconnaissance. All of this has influenced the emergence of new slang terms in the language of the British military. In addition, in the twentieth century there was a rapid development of weapons and military equipment, which also influenced the military slang. Since the Second World War, a number of films have been made about the conflict. The authors of these films strive to show the life of soldiers during the war. That is why war films often use military slang, which makes them a great way to learn military slang terms. We consider the war film “Battle of Britain” (dir. By Guy Hamilton, 1969) for the presence of the military slang of the Royal Air Force and the translation of this film into Russian. In addition, we will make a thematic classification of slang and determine the ways of translating military slang into Russian. While training, military specialists, first of all, study the features of formal military discourse, which is why its informal part remains poorly understood. Therefore, upon completion of training, military interpreters often face problems in translating slang terms. Therefore, research in this area can help military specialists avoid mistakes during their professional activities.

Abstract Introduction Prior sleep studies have suggested that electroencephalography (EEG) spectral power and synchrony features in certain sleep stages differ significantly at the group-average level between subjects with and without post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Here, we investigated whether a multivariate combination of sleep-stage independent EEG features could objectively identify individual subjects with PTSD. Methods We analyzed EEG data recorded from 78 combat-exposed veteran men with (n = 31) and without (n = 47) PTSD during two consecutive nights of sleep. For each subject we computed 780 features from 10 EEG channels covering the whole brain, by averaging the values over the entire night regardless of sleep stage. Using a training set consisting of the first 47 consecutive subjects (18 with PTSD) of the study, we performed univariate feature selection and backward feature elimination using a logistic regression model. We then evaluated the model on the test set, which consisted of the remaining 31 subjects (13 with PTSD). We assessed model performance by computing the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Results Feature elimination using the logistic regression model yielded three uncorrelated features that were consistently discriminative of PTSD across the two consecutive nights. When we trained the logistic model consisting of these three features using data from both nights of the training set, the model yielded test-set AUCs of 0.84 and 0.80 for Night 1 and Night 2, respectively. These values were considerably larger than the test-set AUCs of the three individual features, which ranged from 0.55 to 0.74 across both nights. Conclusion We identified robust, stage-independent, whole-night features and combined them in a logistic regression model to discriminate subjects with and without PTSD. The model yielded AUCs above 0.80 on the test data, showing promise as an objective approach to diagnose PTSD at the individual level. Introduction: Armed Forces personnel suffer from various patterns of injuries during their military training activities which may lead to considerable mortality & morbidity. The high incidence of injuries places a substantial burden on the health care delivery system. Successful treatment outcome and modifications can reduce the operational, fiscal, and health impact of these problems. Objective: To find out the types, causes and morbidity pattern of common injuries received by the members of Bangladesh Armed Forces during their military activities. Methods: This is a descriptive retrospective study carried out to explore the injuries amongst Bangladesh Armed Forces personnel due to military duties. The study population (193) included all injured indoor cases treated in Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Dhaka during the period of January 2009 to December 2009. Data was collected by reviewing the case sheets of patients and analyzed with the help of SPSS Version 11.5. Results: Numbers of Injured subjects amongst the Army personnel were 132(68.4%) followed by 34(17.6%) in Navy and 27(14%) in Air Force. Among them 82(42.5%) belonged to fighting group, 50(25.9%) supporting and 61(31.6%) service group. Knee injury constituted the highest number of patients i.e. 43(22%), followed by 43 JAFMC Bangladesh. Vol 9, No 2 (December) 2013 33(17%) Armand 25(13%) foot injuries. About one fourth, 53(27.5%) cases sustained injury in sports ground followed by 50(25.9%) in operation area and 28(14.5%) in training ground. Physical training events PT/Drill caused maximum injury 7(3.6%) followed by crossing 6ft wall 5(2.6%), horizontal rope 4(2.1%). Maximum duration of hospital stay among the cases were 1-2 weeks in 65(33.7%) followed by 3-4 weeks in 56(29%) and 1-3 months in 41(21.2%) cases. Eighty two (42.5%) injured cases suffered for 3 to 6 months followed by 43(24.4%) for 6 months to1 year. Out of all cases 72(37.3%) were recommended for medical category C, 2(1%) for category B, 11(5%) were Medically Boarded Out (MBO). Conclusion: The study revealed that musculoskeletal injuries especially in knee, foot, shoulder, forearm, ankle, lower leg and patella are prevalent in armed forces personnel. The high incidence of injuries places a substantial burden on the health care delivery system and leads to many lost training days. Careful study and analysis in this regard definitely will explore new dimension to prevent and combat this preventable health burden. Palavras-chave: gestão ambiental; exército; ISO 14001; ambiente; normas Abstract This study describes the development of the environmental management system of the Brazilian Army (SiGAEB), arguing their points in common with the guidelines provided in the standard NBR ISO 14001:2004 and its peculiarities. It was performed through the analysis of standard and institutional documents related to environmental management, issued between November 2001 to December 2008. The results indicate that SiGAEB was planned according to the phases recommended by ISO 14001, though with a number of aspects missing and the focus of the military authorities, often restricted to meeting the legal requirements to perform work, despite of what is proposed by the Standard. We have also seen that the military culture has elements that would favor the operation of the system of environmental management, such as the practice of regular inspection, training and experience in the conduct of military records, and the routine activities of military organizations which prevents environmental impacts. Another aspect to be highlighted is the need to overcome the current weakness of the internal communication on the area of environmental management within the institution. The speciation of toxic metals of Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Pb, Zn, Ni and As in Kwanar – Doya Shooting site of the Nigerian Army, Military Training, Base Camp, Kachia, Kaduna State, Nigeria was investigated. The soil physico-chemical parameters, total metal content and sequential extraction methods were determined in duplicates using standard methods. The pH ranged from 3.93–4.51, showing the high acidity of the soil and electro -conductivity gave a mean value of 0.11 ms / cm showing the poor nutrient value of the soil). While the mean total metals values were Zinc: 28.94 mg/kg, Nickel: 13.45mg/kg, Manganese: 78: 12 mg/kg, Lead: 40.6 mg/kg, Arsenic: 305 mg/kg, Chromium: 49.32 mg/kg, Cobalt: 162:50 mg/kg and copper: 7.3 mg/kg. All the metals were above the W.H.O permissible limit for toxic metals in soils except Zinc and Nickel. The sequential partitioning and distribution and variation of toxic metals in the various fractions of the Nigerian Defence Academy Shooting Range soil were in the following order: Cobalt: Residual > Bound to carbonate > Exchangeable > Organic > Fe – Mn Oxide Arsenic: Fe – Mn Oxide > Bound to carbonate > Residual > Organic > Chromium: Bound to carbonate > Exchangeable > Fe – Mn Oxide > Organic > Residual. Nickel: Fe – Mn Oxide > Exchangeable > Bound to carbonate > Residual > Organic. Manganese: Residual > Fe – Mn Oxide > Bound to carbonate > Organic > Exchangeable. Lead: Residual > Organic > Bound to carbonate > Exchangeable > Fe – Mn Oxide. Zinc: Fe – Mn Oxide > Residual > Organic > Bound to carbonate > Exchangeable. Copper: Residual > Fe – Mn Oxide > Exchangeable > Bound to carbonate > Organic. The Toxic metals speciation of the soil samples indicate that the toxic metals were predominately in the non-residual fractions suggestive of input by anthropogenic sources and human activities due to military exercise and are readily available for plant uptake. This could pose serious health risk to the military personnel using the training period. Thus phyto-remediation technique which is cheap and non-destructive is recommended to be applied to remedy the affected toxic metals in the soil for its continual use as a military training ground and also preserve the soil fertility for continued agricultural use of the area when there is no military operation.

Globally and locally, the number of vehicles is on the rise. It is becoming more and more challenging for authorities to track down specific vehicles. Automatic License Plate Recognition becomes an addition to transportation systems automation. Where the extraction of the vehicle license plate is done without human intervention. Identifying the precise place of a vehicle through its license plate number from moving images of the vehicle image is among the crucial activities for vehicle plate discovery systems. Artificial intelligence systems are connecting the gap between the physical world and digital world of automatic license plate detection. The proposed research uses machine learning to recognizing Arabic license plate numbers. An image of the vehicle number plate is captured and the detection is done by image processing, character segmentation which locates Arabic numeric characters on a number plate. The system recognizes the license plate number area and extracts the plate area from the vehicle image. The background color of the number plate identifies the vehicle types: (1) White color for private vehicle; (2) red color for bus and taxi; (3) blue color for governmental vehicle; (4) yellow color for trucks, tractors, and cranes; (5) black color for temporary license; and (6) green color for army. The recognition of Arabic numbers from license plates is achieved by two methods as (1) Google Tesseract OCR based recognition and (2) Machine Learning-based training and testing Arabic number character as K-nearest neighbors (kNN). The system has been tested on 90 images downloaded from the internet and captured from CCTV. Empirical outcomes show that the proposed system finds plate numbers as well as recognizes background color and Arabic number characters successfully. The overall success rates of plate localization and background color detection have been done. The overall success rate of plate localization and background color detection is 97.78%, and Arabic number detection in OCR is 45.56 % as well as in KNN is 92.22%.

Abstract Introduction There are many unique aspects to the practice of military Infectious Diseases (ID). San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Consortium Infectious Disease (ID) Fellowship is a combined Army and Air Force active duty program. Program leadership thought ID military unique curriculum (MUC) was well integrated into the program. We sought to verify this assumption to guide the decision to formalize the ID MUC. This study describes our strategy for the refinement and implementation of ID specific MUC, assesses the fellow and faculty response to these changes, and provides an example for other programs to follow. Methods We identified important ID areas through lessons learned from personal military experience, data from the ID Army Knowledge Online e-mail consult service, input from military ID physicians, and the Army and Air Force ID consultants to the Surgeons General. The consultants provided feedback on perceived gaps, appropriateness, and strategy. Due to restrictions in available curricular time, we devised a three-pronged strategy for revision: adapt current curricular practices to include MUC content, develop new learning activities targeted at the key content area, and sustain existing, effective MUC experiences. Learners were assessed by multiple choice question correct answer rate, performance during the simulation exercise, and burn rotation evaluation. Data on correct answer rate were analyzed according to level of training by using Mann–Whitney U test. Program assessment was conducted through anonymous feedback at midyear and end of year program evaluations. Results Twelve military unique ID content areas were identified. Diseases of pandemic potential and blood borne pathogen management were added after consultant input. Five experiences were adapted to include military content: core and noon conference series, simulation exercises, multiple choice quizzes, and infection control essay questions. A burn intensive care unit (ICU) rotation, Transport Isolation System exercise, and tour of trainee health facilities were the new learning activities introduced. The formal tropical medicine course, infection prevention in the deployed environment course, research opportunities and participation in trainee health outbreak investigations were sustained activities. Ten fellows participated in the military-unique spaced-education multiple-choice question series. Twenty-seven questions were attempted 814 times. 50.37% of questions were answered correctly the first time, increasing to 100% correct by the end of the activity. No difference was seen in the initial correct answer rate between the four senior fellows (median 55% [IQR 49.75, 63.25]) and the six first-year fellows (median 44% [IQR 39.25, 53]) (p = 0.114). Six fellows participated in the simulated deployment scenario. No failure of material synthesis was noted during the simulation exercise and all of the fellows satisfied the stated objectives. One fellow successfully completed the piloted burn ICU rotation. Fellows and faculty reported high satisfaction with the new curriculum. Conclusions Military GME programs are required by congress to address the unique aspects of military medicine. Senior fellow knowledge using the spaced interval multiple-choice quizzes did not differ from junior fellow rate, supporting our concern that the ID MUC needed to be enhanced. Enhancement of the MUC experience can be accomplished with minimal increases to curricular and faculty time.

The upbringing and education of the younger generations is one of the most important functions of human society, on which the future of our planet completely depends. To solve these vital tasks, a grand army of professional teachers and educators is constantly being created, called to realize the right of every person to study and education, which corresponds to his abilities and capabilities. Another aspect of the process of social education and training of generations is the creation of a holistic system of educational buildings - material and technical base of education - which constantly needs improvement, expansion and reconstruction through periodic changes in society's requirements for education and upbringing of children and adolescents. It is well known that about every 5 years in our country the arsenal of design solutions for school buildings is updated, their functional and planning organization is improved, responsive to the achievements of scientific and technological progress and changes in socio-demographic structure of society. Therefore, school construction is invariably in the field of view of social, pedagogical, hygienic, demographic and, of course, architectural and urban sciences. A school is not just a general education institution where children study. It is a place of knowledge, rest and formation at the same time. Therefore, this concept should be understood as the location of students, which can provide them with appropriate education, entertainment and skills. The school and the surrounding area are integrated into a functional system that aims to ensure a full educational process. The article considers the types of schools and classes depending on the demographic situation in the city. On the example of the city of Vinnytsia, school service areas, radii of school accessibility from different service areas are given. The fullness of classrooms and the load on school infrastructure in different parts of the city were analyzed.

The Modular Emergency Medical System (MEMS) is a flexible and scalable model for community-based response to all catastrophic emergencies. This paper highlights the development of MEMS at the local and regional levels, including training exercises to demonstrate MEMS capabilities, implementation strategies, and its role in the H1N1 response and vaccination clinics. The MEMS was introduced in 2002 as a bioterrorism response by the US Army Edgewood Biological and Chemical Command (ECBC). All-hazards MEMS, as part of a Regional Response System (RRS), was developed by the New England Center for Emergency Preparedness (NECEP) working with state and federal partners. The MEMS presents a modular response framework to mobilize communities and local resources to meet the medical surge demands during a catastrophic event. The modular components of MEMS empower a community-based response to catastrophic emergencies. The Neighborhood Emergency Help Center (NEHC) provides triage and initial treatment, or can function as a point for dispensing prophylaxis medications or vaccinations. During a medical surge, the Acute Care Center (ACC) moves non-critical patients outside of the hospital setting, creating more space for critical care patients. The Community Outreach (CO) module supports casualties recovering in their own homes, under quarantine, and other home-care support. The Casualty Transportation System (CTS) operates between MEMS components, patients' homes and outside of the affected area, meeting all transfer needs. The Medical Control Center (MCC) and Multi-Agency Coordinating Entity (MACE) provide command, control, and coordination of community emergency medical services (EMS), hospital, and public health response assets. Local, regional, and statewide exercises have demonstrated the capabilities of MEMS in Northern New England. The MEMS system, specifically with the MACE concept, was used in New Hampshire during the 2009 H1N1 event. These proven implementation strategies will assist local communities in developing and refining all-hazards response plans.
