The problem of studying thermal conditions of the optoelectronic telescopic module of a nanosatellite under the influence of operating conditions is considered. To maintain optimal thermal conditions of the telescopic lens, a thermal control system based on electric heaters was chosen. Based on the three-dimensional model, the thermal regime of the lens is calculated taking into account the real operating conditions of the nanosatellite in its orbital motion. As a result of the calculation by the finite element method, the dynamics of the temperature fields of the lens was obtained for different modes of operation of the nanosatellite: access to the established thermal conditions, earth terrain survey in normal and extended modes. It is shown that in different modes of operation the thermal control system maintains a given temperature range of optical elements with moderate energy consumption and provides lens efficiency during the entire time of operation of the optoelectronic telescopic module of the nanosatellite.

Contemporary pediatric rigid bronchoscopy reflects the culmination of years of work by prominent endoscopists aided by technical developments in optical physics and refinements in optical lens manufacturing. Improved neonatal and pediatric care has allowed survival of premature infants, many with bronchopulmonary diseases. Rigid bronchoscopy in these infants is demanding and has necessitated the development of miniaturized telescopic bronchoscopes. This study documents airway pressures through bronchoscopes with and without endoscopic telescopes, analyzes and quantitates optical resolution, discusses the trade-offs between these instruments in airway resistance and optical resolution, and makes recommendations regarding which combinations of endoscopes and bronchoscopes provide the best resistance and resolution profiles. We conclude that the size 1.9-mm endoscopic telescope provides the most favorable resistance and resolution profile for the size 2.5 to 3.0 bronchoscopes, the 2.8-mm telescope is ideal for the 3.5 bronchoscope, and the 4.0-mm telescope works best with the 4.0 and larger bronchoscopes. Furthermore, optical forceps and side-channel forceps used during bronchial foreign body removal cause little change in airway resistance.

centenares de keV hasta unos pocos MeV), presenta un extraordinario potencial para comprender los procesos más extremos que tienen lugar en el Universo, como las explosiones estelares o los aceleradores de partículas. No obstante, a pesar de los enormes esfuerzos realizados por los observatorios de rayos gamma (en el pasado y en la actualidad), se requiere una mejora en la sensibilidad instrumental para aprovechar el enorme potencial científico contenido en este rango energético. Durante las dos últimas décadas se han buscado formas de mejorar la sensibilidad de los instrumentos, incrementando la eficiencia de los detectores y reduciendo el ruido instrumental (mediante sofisticados mecanismos de blindaje y técnicas de análisis). Con este objetivo, un enorme esfuerzo en innovación instrumental (construcción de prototipos y estudios numéricos) está siendo realizado por una comunidad creciente de científicos que se enfrentan al reto de preparar la próxima generación de telescopios de rayos gamma. En particular, son especialmente notables los avances logrados en los últimos años en el campo de la focalización de rayos gamma mediante lentes de difracción. Conceptualmente, una lente de rayos gamma reduciría drásticamente el ruido instrumental ya que concentra los fotones en un detector de pequeñas dimensiones (el ruido es proporcional al volumen del instrumento). Una lente de difracción, para observaciones en astrofísica nuclear, no es sólo un concepto teórico, sino una realidad, gracias principalmente al proyecto CLAIRE. Asimismo, el desarrollo de la tecnología para la focalización de rayos gamma ha incentivado el desarrollo de las diferentes tecnologías de detección. Un detector apropiado para el plano focal de una lente gamma, debe disponer de capacidad de imagen, proporcionar espectroscopia de alta resolución y medir la polarización de los fotones incidentes. El trabajo presentado en esta tesis comprende tanto la óptica de focalización como el detector del plano focal. Con respecto a la óptica, se presenta el ensayo realizado con el prototipo CLAIRE, mediante el cual se ha confirmado los principios de una lente de difracción. En cuanto al plano focal, esta investigación se ha desarrollado principalmente en el marco de estudio de las misiones espaciales GRI (2007) y DUAL (2010), propuestas a la ESA dentro del programa “Cosmic Vision 2015-2025”. En el marco de la misión GRI, se presenta una configuración para el detector del plano focal basado en detectores pixelados de Cd(Zn)Te, al tiempo que se investiga y desarrolla un primer prototipo de detector pixelado de CdTe. Cabe destacar que el sistema de detección propuesto fue registrado con éxito mediante una patente europea, y está siendo desarrollado para su aplicación en medicina nuclear. En relación a la propuesta DUAL, se presenta un estudio del ruido instrumental obtenido mediante simulaciones numéricas con el fin de precisar la sensibilidad del instrumento (basado en detectores de Germanio) propuesto en esta misión. Más allá de las tecnología consideradas en GRI y DUAL, una amplia variedad de detectores pueden ser explorados, bien para el plano focal de una lente de difracción o bien como sistemas de detección por sí mismos. En este sentido, se ha ampliado el espectro de tecnologías y se ha incluido un estudio sobre detectores basados en xenón líquido. En esta tesis se ha realizado un trabajo de investigación y desarrollo con tecnologías vanguardistas propuestas para la próxima generación de telescopios de rayos gamma. Esta instrumentación debe enfrentarse al reto de alcanzar la sensibilidad requerida para dar respuesta a las cuestiones aun no resultas por la astrofísica de rayos gamma en el rango de energía de las transiciones nucleares.

In spite of the strong efforts accomplished by past and current instruments, in order to perform observations in this energy range, an improvement in sensitivity over present technologies is needed to take full advantage of the scientific potential contained in this energy range. In order to achieve higher sensitivities, γ-ray astronomy has been looking over the last decades for new ways to increase the efficiency of its instruments while reducing the background noise. With the objective of reducing or avoiding as much background as possible (through shielding mechanisms and data analysis techniques), a strong effort in innovation and design (build-up of prototypes and numerical simulations studies) is being conducted by a community facing the challenge of preparing the next generation of γ-ray telescopes. In particular, the progress achieved during the last decade on focusing optics based on Laue lenses is especially remarkable. Conceptually, a focusing telescope will reduce drastically the background noise by concentrating γ-rays onto a small size detector. Focusing γ-rays with a Laue lens is not just a theoretical concept, but a reality, mainly thanks to the development of a first prototype of Laue lens for nuclear astrophysics accomplished as part of the CLAIRE project. Moreover, the development of focusing optics during these years has also encouraged the development of new detector technologies. The focal plane detector of a focusing telescope should provide imaging capabilities, perform high-resolution spectroscopy and measure the polarization of the incident photons in order to achieve the ambitious scientific goals. The research presented in this thesis covers both main areas of a γ-rays telescope: focusing optics and focal plane detector. As far as the optics is concerned, a test of the lens CLAIRE was performed in order to confirm the principles of a Laue diffraction lens. Concerning the focal plane detector, theoretical and experimental studies with new detector technologies have been carried out. Our main research has evolved in the framework of two mission concept studies -GRI (2007) and DUAL (2010)- submitted to the ESA Calls for a Medium-size mission opportunity within the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 program. As far as the GRI mission is concerned, a focal plane detector configuration based on Cd(Zn)Te pixelated detectors is proposed, whilst development and testing of a detector prototype is accomplished. It is noteworthy that the detector configuration was successfully registered under a European Patent and is being considered for applications in the field of nuclear medicine. Regarding the DUAL mission, simulations of the expected space radiation environment and the resulting detector activation were carried out in order to estimate the performances of the all-sky Compton telescope of DUAL (based on Germanium-strip detectors). The results show that DUAL could achieve, after two years of operation, a continuum sensitivity one order of magnitude better than any past and current observatory in the MeV energy range and up to a factor 30 of improvement with its Laue lens. Beyond the detector technology proposed for GRI and DUAL, a wide variety of technologies could be explored for the focal plane of a γ-ray lens mission as well as for a stand-alone detector. In this thesis a focal plane detector based on liquid xenon is also considered. This work faces the challenges of the next generation of γ-ray telescopes, where high performance γ-ray detectors are necessary to achieve the required sensitivity in order to answer several hot scientific topics of Gamma-ray astrophysics in the energy range of nuclear transitions.

La prise en compte et la correction des effets induits dans les images par les détecteurs du plan focal (CCD) a été identifié comme étant un point essentiel pour remplir les objectifs scientifiques de la collaboration LSST- Dark Energy Science Collaboration. Le groupe de travail SAWG a été crée, et des bancs optique ont été mis à contribution dans certains laboratoires de la collaboration (UC Davis, SLAC, BNL et LPNHE) afin d'adresser le problème. LSST fait partie d'une nouvelle catégorie de télescopes : les grands plans focaux. Depuis une dizaine d'années que ceux-ci sont équipés de CCD à haute résistivité, un certain nombre de nouveaux effets ont été identifiés. Une attention toute particulière est portée sur la compréhension des distorsions électrostatiques inhérentes aux propriétés du CCD qui ont un impact sur les mesures de science. Le travail de cette thèse est centré sur l'étude de l'effet brighter-fatter et des tree-rings. Il a été démontré qu'avec certains types d'illuminations, il était possible de caractériser ces effets avec précision. C'est dans le but de produire ces illuminations qu'un projecteur de franges a été développé sur le banc optique du LPNHE. Dans ce document sont ainsi présentés : une nouvelle méthode de caractérisation des tree- rings testée sur des simulations ; une nouvelle méthode de mesure de l'effet brighter-fatter basée sur la projection de profils de Ronchi ; une étude complète des différentes propriétés de l'effet brighter-fatter dans laquelle a été mis en place un modèle électrostatique simplifié. Enfin, l'efficacité d'une méthode de correction, dite de descrambling est évaluée
The removal of the sensor signature in the science images has been identified by the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration as a mandatory path to fullfill its scientific goals. The SAWG working group has been put together to perform this task for the collaboration. It has access to optical benches in some of the laboratories of the collaboration (UC Davis, SLAC, BNL and LPNHE) for this purpose. LSST belongs to a new category of telescopes equiped with large focal planes. For the decade that they have been equipped with thick, high resistivity Charge Coupled Devices (CCD), new effects have been identified. A particular attention is given to the understanding of the electrostatic distortions that are inherent to the CCD properties. These electrostatic distortions have an impact on science measurements. My PhD work is centered on the study of the brighter-fatter effect and the tree-rings. It has been shown that with different kind of illuminations, it was possible to accurately characterize these effects. A fringe projector has been developed on the optical bench of the LPNHE in order to produce these particular illuminations. In this document, we present : a new method, tested on simulations, to characterize the tree-rings; a new method to measure the brighter-fatter effect based on the projection of Ronchi profiles; a complete study of the different properties of the brighter-fatter effect, where we developped a simplified electrostatic model. Finally, the efficiency of a correction method, called descrambling, is evaluated

Les performances d'une optique adaptative (OA) avec étoile laser, sur des télescopes de 3.6~m et 8~m de diamètre sont évaluées. L'utilisation d'une étoile laser permet d'améliorer significativement la couverture du ciel (pourcentage du ciel observable): 99~\% du ciel est accessible avec une étoile laser (contre 10~\% avec une étoile naturelle (à 2.2~$\mu$m, latitude et longitude galactique moyenne et un rapport de Strehl de 0.2)). Le nombre de quasars observables avec un rapport de Strehl de plus de 0.2 passe de 357 à 6803. Les performances de l'OA avec étoile laser chutent vers les courtes longueurs d'onde ($<1 \mu$m), à cause de l'effet de cône. Cependant l'étude tridimensionnelle de la turbulence atmosphérique permet de résoudre ce problème. Quatre étoiles laser permettent d'obtenir une bonne correction dans le visible sur un télescope de 8~m (Strehl de 80~\%). Le champ de vue corrigé peut être significativement élargi (100'') avec un Strehl de 30~\%. Des modes élevés de la surface d'onde (tilt, forme particulière de défocalisation et d'astigmatisme) doivent être mesurés à partir d'une étoile naturelle. L'anisoplanétisme appara\^(\i)t dans le champ corrigé, à cause du nombre fini de miroirs déformables utilisés. Les performances d'une OA fonctionnant dans le visible, avec plusieurs étoiles laser (et naturelles) sont estimées sur un télescope de 100~m de diamètre. Il n'y a pas de limitation physique qui empêche d'atteindre, avec une bonne couverture du ciel, une résolution d'une milli-seconde d'arc dans le visible. Le dernier chapitre est consacré à l'étude d'étoiles Mira, avec une OA et un spectrographe intégral de champ, pour localiser par imagerie des ondes de choc dans leur atmosphère.

Afin d'étendre la couverture du ciel en Optique Adaptative (OA), des Etoiles Guide Laser (EGL) sont crées artificiellement dans la couche de Sodium de l'atmosphère. Leur utilisation provoque des problèmes spécifiques sur la mesure de front d'onde par l'Analyseur de Surface d'Onde (ASO). Certains deviennent critiques avec le passage aux ELT (Extremely Large Télescopes). L'objectif de cette thèse est d'étudier la spécificité de l'analyse de front d'onde sur EGL pour les ELT, et d'optimiser l'ASO dans ce cadre. Pour cela, une caractérisation des effets d'anisoplanétisme focal différentiel sur la mesure de front d'onde a d'abord été effectuée. En s'appuyant sur un modèle de propagation diffractive, nous avons chiffré l'impact des effets de phase et d'amplitude dans le cas des ELT en prenant en compte l'étape de reconstruction tomographique. Nous avons montré que ces effets étaient d'amplitude faible pour la plupart des applications. Nous avons ensuite proposé un modèle simple pour classer les différentes sources d'erreurs mises en évidence dans la littérature. Après avoir montré que l'ASO Pyramide et l'ASO Shack-Hartmann (SH) avaient des comportements très proches lors de la mesure sur EGL, nous avons évalué ces différentes sources d'erreur en considérant le cas d'un ASO SH. Nous avons étudié en détail l'évaluation des erreurs de non-linéarités de mesure, puis nous avons évalué l'impact des variations de la couche de Sodium. Notre travail intègre l'étape de reconstruction tomographique. Nous avons pu déduire de ces études les paramètres à privilégier dans le dimensionnement de l'ASO, afin d'optimiser la mesure de front d'onde sur EGL pour un ELT
In order to increase the sky coverage in Adaptive Optics (AO), Laser Guide Stars (LOS) are created in the Sodium layer of the atmosphere. These 3D extended objects induce specific problems on the wave front measurement performed by the Wave Front Sensor (WFS). Some of these problems become critical on the Extremely Large Telescopes (ELTs). The goal of this work is to study the specificity of the wavefront analysis on LGS in the framework of the ELTs, and to optimize the WFS measurement accuracy on such objects. We first studied the characterization of the effects of differential focal anisoplanatism on wave front measurements. Using a diffractive propagation model,i. E. Taking into account the effects of phase and amplitude, we have calculated these effects in the case of ELTs. Considering the stage of tomographic phase reconstruction. We have shown that these effects are actually low in amplitude for most applications. We proposed then a simple model to classify the different sources of errors identified in the literature. After showing that the Pyramid WFS and the Shack-Hartmann (SH) had very similar behaviours with regards to these effects, we assessed the différent error terms in the decomposition, considering the case of a SH WFS. We studied in detail the evaluation of the non-linearity error and the sensor noise error. Then we evaluated the impact of the Sodium layer variations, considering analytical profiles as well as real data. We considered also here the stage of tomographic reconstruction. Finally, we managed to deduce from this study the parameters of the WFS to be favored when optimizing the wavefront analysis on LGS, in the case of ELTs

The South Pole Telescope has discovered 100 gravitationally lensed, high-redshift, dusty, star-forming galaxies (DSFGs). We present 0."5 resolution 870 mu m. Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array imaging of a sample of 47 DSFGs spanning z = 1.9-5.7, and construct gravitational lens models of these sources. Our visibility-based lens modeling incorporates several sources of residual interferometric calibration uncertainty, allowing us to properly account for noise in the observations. At least 70% of the sources are strongly lensed by foreground galaxies (mu(870) (mu m) > 2), with a median magnification of mu(870) (mu m) = 6.3, extending to mu(870) (mu m) > 30. We compare the intrinsic size distribution of the strongly lensed sources to a similar number of unlensed DSFGs and find no significant differences in spite of a bias between the magnification and intrinsic source size. This may indicate that the true size distribution of DSFGs is relatively narrow. We use the source sizes to constrain the wavelength at which the dust optical depth is unity and find this wavelength to be correlated with the dust temperature. This correlation leads to discrepancies in dust mass estimates of a factor of two compared to estimates using a single value for this wavelength. We investigate the relationship between the [C II] line and the far-infrared luminosity and find that the same correlation between the [C II]/L-FIR. ratio and Sigma(FIR). found for low-redshift star-forming galaxies applies to high-redshift galaxies and extends at least two orders of magnitude higher in SFIR. This lends further credence to the claim that the compactness of the IR-emitting region is the controlling parameter in establishing the "[C II] deficit."

Objetivos: comparar o telescópio com lente de contato (TLC) com o telescópio convencional (TC) em pacientes com degeneração macular relacionada à idade (DMRI) e baixa visão, com respeito a: acuidade visual (AV), campo de visão (CV), satisfação do paciente com a visão oferecida pelo telescópio (SV), dificuldade de uso do telescópio (DU) e satisfação do paciente com o aspecto estético do telescópio (SE). Materiais e Métodos: Em ensaio clínico randomizado mascarado, foram incluídos 12 pacientes com DMRI e baixa visão, formando 2 grupos de 6 pacientes cada: grupo 1 (uso de TLC) e grupo 2 (uso de TC). Os telescópios usados no estudo foram padronizados para que tivessem a mesma magnificação (2,8x). A AV e o CV foram aferidos antes e durante o uso do telescópio, enquanto a SV, a DU e a SE foram obtidas após a intervenção. Resultados: Não houve diferenças entre os grupos na linha de base. Os dois telescópios demonstraram melhora da AV em relação à linha de base (P=0,002 com o TLC e P<0,001 com o TC) e não houve diferença entre os grupos a este respeito. O CV foi reduzido em 15° com o TLC (P<0.001) e em 54.3° com o TC (P<0.001), em comparação com a linha de base, e tais diferenças também foram significativas entre os grupos durante a intervenção (P<0.001). Purpose: To compare the conventional telescope (CT) with the contact lens telescope (CLT) in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and low-vision, with respect to visual acuity (VA), visual field (VF), patient satisfaction with the vision provided by the telescope (VS), telescope use difficulties (UD) and patient satisfaction with the cosmetic appearance of the telescope (CS). Methods: In a masked randomized clinical trial, 12 patients with AMD and low-vision were enrolled in 2 groups with 6 patients each: group 1 (CLT use) and group 2. (CT use) The telescopes used in this study were standardized to have the same magnification power. (2.8x) Visual field and VA were obtained before and during the telescope use, while VS, UD and CS were obtained after the telescope use. Results: There were no significant differences between groups at baseline. Both groups achieved VA improvement with telescopes compared to baseline (P=0.002 in CLT group and P<0.001 in CT group) and there were no significant differences between groups in this regard. Visual field was reduced by 15° in CLT group (P<0.001) and by 54.3° in CT group (P<0.001) compared to baseline, and VF differences between groups were also significant during telescope use. (P<0.001) Scores observed in both groups were similar in regard to VS. Telescope use difficulties were significant higher in CLT group (P=0.003) as well as CS scores (P<0.001) compared to CT group. Conclusions: Both telescopes provide similar improvement in VA in AMD patients with low-vision, but CLT caused less VF reduction than CT use. Patient satisfaction with the cosmetic appearance of the telescope was higher in CLT group, but UD was also higher in this group compared to CT group.

The design of the flexure mount recently submitted to NASA Ames for the structural support of the primary mirror of the Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF) is presented. The flexure system must passively accommodate the differential thermal contraction between the glass mirror and the aluminum structure of the telescope during cryogenic cooldown. Further, it must support the one meter diameter, 116 kilogram (258 pound) primary mirror during a severe launch to orbit. Procedures used to establish the required radial compliance using computer programs NASTRAN and FRINGE are discussed. The parametric design program developed to study early concepts is presented. Methods of combining modal responses resulting from a displacement response spectrum analysis are discussed, and a combination scheme called MRSS, Modified Root of Sum of Squares, is presented. Modal combination schemes using MRSS, SRSS, and ABS are compared to the results of a Modal Frequency Response analysis.

<p>This paper proposes an image-driven bridge inspection framework using automated damage detection using deep learning technique and image registration. A state-of-the-art deep learning model, Cascade Mask R-CNN (Mask and Region-based Convolutional Neural Networks) is trained for detection of cracks, which is a representative damage type of bridges, from the images taken from a bridge. The model is trained with more than a thousand training images containing cracks as well as crack-like objects (hard negative samples). The images taken from a test bridge are input to a deep learning model trained to detect damages, which is further mapped on a large image of each bridge component registered using a commercial registration software. The performance of the proposed framework is evaluated on piers of existing bridges, whose external appearance was imaged using a DSLR with a telescopic lens. The results are compared with the conventional visual inspection to analyse the performance and applicability of the proposed framework.</p>
