Our research presents and analyzes the phenomenon of ownership and the terms of use of mobile phones in the city of Algiers. It raises the question of the conditions of deployment, integration and promotion of this tool within the company and for that, we will try to analyze the logic of its use by placing them in their social institutional, organizational, and cultural development. This analysis assumes the inclusion of socio-economic and cultural aspects of the phenomena in question while demonstrating the influence of social and demographical variables (age, sex, place of residence, occupational status) on ownership, use and symbolic representations of each social class in respect of this technology by the light on the impact of this on the society and the family and its impact on health, the environment and road safety. Mobile telephony is a social phenomenon and a feature of developed countries which deserves to be studied. For this, we will take an empirical survey based approaches to media sociology and the sociology of uses to better understand the practices and modes of use of the mobile users in Algiers

This thesis studies the relationship between media production and citizen practice in the mobile applications industry concerning sustainable development contents in France, Brazil, and - to a lesser degree - in the United States between 2009 and 2011. Within this framework, sustainable development was chosen as a basis for discussion as it illustrates the notion of the common good. We study the construction of technical innovation and digital content production. We highlight the interests of the relevant players - operators and stakeholders. The notion of the various interests involved is the central theme of our study. We focus on the role of professionals as specialized intermediaries, who ensure the interaction between the interests involved. Do we detect a civic involvement of these professionals torn between their technical and creative qualifications and societal responsibilities? This is the underlying theme of this thesis

In the context of massive adoption of mobile phones, this research will focus on the way young people in Gabon engage with mobile phones. My research will however, not be limited to this question of engagement with mobile phones, but also interrogate how mobile phone practices and engagements is infused into the socio-cultural everyday functioning of the Gabonese society. Using a deterministic approach, many researchers have extrapolated how the invention and usage of mobile phones continues to positively transform lifestyles of young people. I will also reflect on how this digital advancament has restructured and redefined community and individual relationships. For clarity, I will begin with examining and explaining key terminologies necessary for my empirical analysis Then i will proceed to analyse the data collected during my field survey of mobile telephone use by young people

This study tackles high-school students’ uses of the Internet and cell phone in low-income neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro and the Paris region. It aims to identify if these « deterritorialized » practices provide cultural and social capital the teenagers would not have access to in their schools and neighborhoods or through traditional media. Teenagers’ cultural practices have gained a new visibility with their posting on social networking websites such as Facebook, where cultural legitimacy is more and more based on content production rather than consumption. Most school-oriented digital practices are information searches, but the participatory web culture conflicts with the school culture. In the end, digital practices have little impact on these teenagers’ academic capital, but they do help them to enhance their employability through « other skills » such as IT skills and foreign languages. However the majority of teenagers digital practices consist in social interactions. In both cities, digital communications encourage similar patterns, such as spatial mobility or digital contact with « strangers ». But they are also shaped by local social norms : the French communicate mostly with other teenagers, while the Brazilian focus on family. In addition, getting digital increases and diversifies social networks, especially for those who are geographically mobile, while it also encourages strong ties by offering a space for intimate conversations away from peers and family
