Telecom towers play the utmost important role in mobile communication whereas riggers (tower workers/climbers) are the backbone to erect and maintain such tower infrastructure. Work on telecom towers includes tower structure work, hoisting and de hoisting of various types of antennas, RF cable laying and connectorization. The purpose of this article is to identify gaps among stakeholders in adopting safety standards to protect telecom tower riggers in Indian telecom domain and proposed framework for establishing Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards for Indian telecom tower riggers to fill the gap and create a conducive atmosphere among telecom companies and tower infrastructure providers while utilizing the services of riggers. This article tabulates basic parameters that are required to find “rigger-man-hours” on each work/activity of rigger on the telecom tower. This will enable telecom companies to forecast their regular riggers requirement as well to assess the future demand across geographical areas of the country.

This paper examines how cloud-based infrastructure is impacting classical implementations of telecom Managed Services (MS) models with focus on network operations and maintenance (O&M). The migration of legacy network assets to the ‘cloud’ has altered traditional telecom network configuration. This work explores how cloud-based network infrastructure may alter MS models in the telecom network domain. It is expected that the unique offerings of cloud-based solutions will impact existing MS models and may require redesigning or adjusting operation and maintenance processes and frameworks. As network infrastructure migrates to the cloud, telecom MS delivery models must evolve as well to satisfy new requirements. This paper lays out essential aspects of traditional MS models that may be impacted as a result of cloud-based infrastructure. It further proposes a framework, and conceptual software design for systematically analysing the gaps in current MS models in order to identify requirements for improved MS delivery in the cloud era.

This paper aims to propose a robust credit scoring system by leveraging latent information embedded in the telecom subscriber relation network based on multi-source data sources, including telecom inner data, online app usage, and offline consumption footprint.Design/methodology/approachRooting from network science, the relation network model and singular value decomposition are integrated to infer different subscriber subgroups. Employing the results of network inference, the paper proposed a network-aware credit scoring system to predict the continuous credit scores by implementing several state-of-art techniques, i.e. multivariate linear regression, random forest regression, support vector regression, multilayer perceptron, and a deep learning algorithm. The authors use a data set consisting of 926 users of a Chinese major telecom operator within one month of 2018 to verify the proposed approach.FindingsThe distribution of telecom subscriber relation network follows a power-law function instead of the Gaussian function previously thought. This network-aware inference divides the subscriber population into a connected subgroup and a discrete subgroup. Besides, the findings demonstrate that the network-aware decision support system achieves better and more accurate prediction performance. In particular, the results show that our approach considering stochastic equivalence reveals that the forecasting error of the connected-subgroup model is significantly reduced by 7.89–25.64% as compared to the benchmark. Deep learning performs the best which might indicate that a non-linear relationship exists between telecom subscribers' credit scores and their multi-channel behaviours.Originality/valueThis paper contributes to the existing literature on business intelligence analytics and continuous credit scoring by incorporating latent information of the relation network and external information from multi-source data (e.g. online app usage and offline consumption footprint). Also, the authors have proposed a power-law distribution-based network-aware decision support system to reinforce the prediction performance of individual telecom subscribers' credit scoring for the telecom marketing domain.

Subject area This case looks at a recent shift in the way organizations look to leverage the benefits from India as a cost-effective destination to provide services. What started, around 15 years back, as an activity to outsource all non-core activities to Indian companies to take the advantage of cost-effective resources, has now given way to a new model where the focus is on two key aspects, namely, “insourcing of work” and “transfer of core activities to India”. This is because of the realization that outsourcing may be a short-term solution for non-core activities; however, to build a sustainable capability that is both cost-effective and value-oriented, insourcing is key. Also, it is not just non-core activities that can be supported remotely; many core activities that have been managed by on-shore teams are increasingly being shifted to India to leverage the depth of skills available in the country. First Telecom has undertaken pioneering work in this domain by moving some of the critical functions to India and has created Centers of Excellence (CoEs) providing niche services to rest of the world. Study level/applicability Target audience includes corporate executives, students of MBA/postgraduate program in management in strategic management and/or workshops for understanding the concept of insourcing, cost transformation, business environment analysis and growth strategies for future. Case overview First Telecom has adopted what could be termed as “India 2.0” as the strategy to transform their operations worldwide to utilize the full potential of “India” as a service sector-outsourcing destination. Innovativeness in consumers accelerates the innovative behaviour resulting into successful adoption and diffusion of innovation. Despite extensive literature available on consumer innovativeness (CI), the present study identifies a research gap on the relationship between demographics and innovativeness for telecom services as a specific domain. The research draws on investigating the impact of demographic antecedents on CI aiming to differentiate the customers in two distinct categories, namely, low and high innovativeness for effective target marketing. A logit model has been applied in this research indicating the effect of overall contribution of multi-category variables as well as contribution of each parameter by considering age, gender, income and family life cycle as explanatory variables. The results of binary logistic regression indicate age as the better predictor of innovativeness followed by gender and family life cycle, whereas income is considered as an insignificant variable. The study offers implications for designing effective marketing mix and using consumers’ innovativeness for successful diffusion and adoption in mobile telecom services.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to evaluate performance of Indian telecom service providers through a benchmarking study of their operational efficiency and service delivery effectiveness. The paper also carries out a peer-to-peer comparison and identifies-specific areas of improvement for different service providers to attain sustainable growth and profitability. Design/methodology/approach – A two stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) model was used to compare the performances of the service providers. The first stage represents how efficiently a unit is able to use its infrastructure and resources to generate better quality services. The second stage captures how well the company is able to communicate and deliver these services to the customer. Findings – The results of the study support the applicability of the two stage DEA for comparing the performances of the telecom service providers as they are in line with the financial performance indicators and brand ranking. It is observed that those companies which score high on both operational efficiency and service delivery effectiveness have achieved superior profitability. Research limitations/implications – This study has been carried out at a pan-India level and hence does not take into account circle level or local performance which varies significantly for most service providers. Besides, this the analysis was constrained by limited data in the public domain, which necessitated estimations and extrapolations for some variables of few service providers. Practical implications – The study has helped to provide inputs for the Indian telecom companies for potential performance improvements by providing a comparative analysis of their operational efficiency and service delivery effectiveness. It has enabled to derive deeper insights on potential target areas for managerial attention that could be translated into implementable actions. The benchmarking analysis has also helped to understand whether the current performance of the service provider is sustainable, unprofitable or ephemeral. Originality/value – This paper goes beyond the traditional benchmarking studies of Indian telecom service providers introducing a two stage DEA model to understand the operational efficiency as well as the service delivery effectiveness. The study has helped to derive valuable academic and practical insights on the issue of performance measurement of the Indian telecom service providers.

Nowadays, customer churn has been reflected as one of the main concerns in the processes of the telecom sector, as it affects the revenue directly. Telecom companies are looking to design novel methods to identify the potential customer to churn. Hence, it requires suitable systems to overcome the growing churn challenge. Recently, integrating different clustering and classification models to develop hybrid learners (ensembles) has gained wide acceptance. Ensembles are getting better approval in the domain of big data since they have supposedly achieved excellent predictions as compared to single classifiers. Therefore, in this study, we propose a customer churn prediction (CCP) based on ensemble system fully incorporating clustering and classification learning techniques. The proposed churn prediction model uses an ensemble of clustering and classification algorithms to improve CCP model performance. Initially, few clustering algorithms such as k-means, k-medoids, and Random are employed to test churn prediction datasets. Next, to enhance the results hybridization technique is applied using different ensemble algorithms to evaluate the performance of the proposed system. Above mentioned clustering algorithms integrated with different classifiers including Gradient Boosted Tree (GBT), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), Deep Learning (DL), and Naive Bayes (NB) are evaluated on two standard telecom datasets which were acquired from Orange and Cell2Cell. The experimental result reveals that compared to the bagging ensemble technique, the stacking-based hybrid model (k-medoids-GBT-DT-DL) achieve the top accuracies of 96%, and 93.6% on the Orange and Cell2Cell dataset, respectively. The proposed method outperforms conventional state-of-the-art churn prediction algorithms.

Properties of two different photonic crystal fibers (PCF) were characterized, enabling comparisons. Properties investigated included spectral attenuation, polarization mode dispersion (PMD), optical time domain reflectometer characteristics, elastooptic factor describing transmission delay induced by axial strain plus effects of temperature cycling and fiber twist on PMD and loss. In particular, temperature and twist dependence of PMD was different for each fiber tested. For optical measurements, fibers were fusion spliced to pigtails with standard telecom single mode fibers. PCF splicing procedures and solutions adopted to minimize collapse of holes during arc fusion and splice loss are presented. It was found that fusion splicing procedure must be individually tailored to each combination of fibers.

Big data analytics has been the focus for large scale data processing. Machine learning and Big data has great future in prediction. Churn prediction is one of the sub domain of big data. Preventing customer attrition especially in telecom is the advantage of churn prediction. Churn prediction is a day-to-day affair involving millions. So a solution to prevent customer attrition can save a lot. This paper propose to do comparison of three machine learning techniques Decision tree algorithm, Random Forest algorithm and Gradient Boosted tree algorithm using Apache Spark. Apache Spark is a data processing engine used in big data which provides in-memory processing so that the processing speed is higher. The analysis is made by extracting the features of the data set and training the model. Scala is a programming language that combines both object oriented and functional programming and so a powerful programming language. The analysis is implemented using Apache Spark and modelling is done using scala ML. The accuracy of Decision tree model came out as 86%, Random Forest model is 87% and Gradient Boosted tree is 85%.

Using mobile phones for financial transactions has been on a sharp increase globally and particularly in Tanzania. The introduction of mobile money interoperability allows customers to undertake money transfers across different telecom mobile money accounts and bank accounts. This study aimed to find out factors that may influence the acceptance and successful use of mobile money services interoperability that are tailored to banking and unbanked users' intention by integrating three globally accepted theories; DeLonge and McLean information system success model, The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and The Task-Technology Fit (TTF) Theory. The study hypotheses were empirically tested using data from 447 mobile money users from both telecom and banks. Data were analysed using the correlation and regression technique. This study found that approximately 81.5% of the dependent variable, which is interoperability of mobile money services, was accounted for by the regression analysis and therefore can strongly be explained very well by independent variables, which are Perceived Ease of Use; price value; Network Availability; Security and Trust; Service quality; Task Characteristics. This study's findings provide valuable understandings for formulating effective strategies concerning financial inclusion to mobile money service providers, governments, and other stakeholders and expand the existing customer base to mobile money service providers. Moreover, this study's results will provide the basis for further refinement of technology acceptance and success models in the emerging mobile money service domain.

The distributed long-range sensing system, using the standard telecommunication single-mode optical fiber for the distributed sensing of mechanical vibrations, is described. Various events generating vibrations, such as a walking or running person, moving car, train, and many other vibration sources, can be detected, localized, and classified. The sensor is based on phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (ϕ-OTDR). Related sensing system components were designed and constructed, and the system was tested both in the laboratory and in the real deployment, with an 88 km telecom optical link, and the results are presented in this paper. A two-fiber sensor unit, with a double-sensing range was also designed, and its scheme is described. The unit was constructed and the initial measurement results are presented.

Quantum entanglement is a key resource in currently developed quantum technologies. Sharing this fragile property between superconducting microwave circuits and optical or atomic systems would enable new functionalities, but this has been hindered by an energy scale mismatch of >10 4 and the resulting mutually imposed loss and noise. In this work, we created and verified entanglement between microwave and optical fields in a millikelvin environment. Using an optically pulsed superconducting electro-optical device, we show entanglement between propagating microwave and optical fields in the continuous variable domain. This achievement not only paves the way for entanglement between superconducting circuits and telecom wavelength light, but also has wide-ranging implications for hybrid quantum networks in the context of modularization, scaling, sensing, and cross-platform verification.

Telecom operators’ infrastructure is undergoing high pressure to keep the pace with the traffic demand generated by the societal need of remote communications, bandwidth-hungry applications, and the fulfilment of 5G requirements. Software-defined networking (SDN) entered in scene decoupling the data-plane forwarding actions from the control-plane decisions, hence boosting network programmability and innovation. Optical networks are also capitalizing on SDN benefits jointly with a disaggregation trend that holds the promise of overcoming traditional vendor-locked island limitations. In this work, we present our framework for disaggregated optical networks that leverages on SDN and container-based management for a realistic emulation of deployment scenarios. Our proposal relies on Kubernetes for the containers’ control and management, while employing the NETCONF protocol for the interaction with the light-weight software entities, i.e., agents, which govern the emulated optical devices. Remarkably, our agents’ structure relies on components that offer high versatility for accommodating the wide variety of components and systems in the optical domain. We showcase our proposal with the emulation of an 18-node European topology employing Cassini-compliant optical models, i.e., a state-of-the-art optical transponder proposed in the Telecom Infrastructure Project. The combination of our versatile framework based on containerized entities, the automatic creation of agents and the optical-layer characteristics represents a novel approach suitable for operationally complex carrier-grade transport infrastructure with SDN-based disaggregated optical systems.

Recommendation systems have lately been popularised globally. However, often they need to be adapted to particular data and the use case. We have developed a machine learning-based recommendation system, which can be easily applied to almost any items and/or actions domain. Contrary to existing recommendation systems, our system supports multiple types of interaction data with various modalities of metadata through a multi-modal fusion of different data representations. We deployed the system into numerous e-commerce stores, e.g., food and beverages, shoes, fashion items, and telecom operators. We present our system and its main algorithms for data representations and multi-modal fusion. We show benchmark results on open datasets that outperform the state-of-the-art prior work. We also demonstrate use cases for different e-commerce sites.

We demonstrate a sensing scheme for liquid analytes that integrates multiple optical fiber sensors in a near-infrared spectrometer. With a simple optofluidic method, a broadband radiation is encoded in a time-domain interferogram and distributed to different sensing units that interrogate the sample simultaneously; the spectral readout of each unit is extracted from its output signal by a Fourier transform routine. The proposed method allows performing a multiparametric analysis of liquid samples in a compact setup where the radiation source, measurement units, and spectral readout are all integrated in a robust telecom optical fiber. An experimental validation is provided by combining a plasmonic nanostructured fiber probe and a transmission cuvette in the setup and demonstrating the simultaneous measurement of the absorption spectrum and the refractive index of water–methanol solutions.

Background - Applying social learning theory, we propose a relationship of cultural intelligence with the moderation effect of political skills to predict expatriate adjustment. Design/methodology/approach - Three ninety-one participants voluntarily participated in the survey for the data collection from four sectors (banking, telecom, software, and public). Findings - The findings reveal that a direct positive influence of cultural intelligence on expatriate adjustment and political skills positively moderates this relationship.Practical Implications- This study provides guidance to policymakers and practitioners that by using the tools of cultural intelligence and political skills, they can overcome the hurdles faced by the expatriates for adjustment in multi-national firms and culture.Originality/value - This study emphasized the primary domain of political skills, which enables the expatriates to adjust themselves with higher cultural intelligence in the environment of multinational firms.

Radio resource allocation schemes are critical to enhance user experience and spectrum efficiency. In the context of fifth-generation (5G) and future networks, co-construction and sharing among multiple telecom operators, which effectively mitigate challenges stemming from resource scarcity, energy consumption, and network construction costs, also attract wide attention. Therefore, optimal resource allocation techniques in sharing networks should be explored. Current resource allocation schemes primarily optimize for load balancing, single-user throughput, and fairness of multi-user whole network throughput, with minimal consideration for network-level user experience. Moreover, existing approaches predominantly concentrate on specific resource domains, seldom considering holistic collaboration across all domains, which limits the user experience of the whole network. This paper introduces an innovative resource allocation method grounded in the Shannon theorem, incorporating time-frequency-spatial domain multi-dimensional collaboration. More importantly, by constructing an optimization model, we strive to attain optimal network-level user experience. Furthermore, we provide a smart grid technology based on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) method to predict inter-frequency information, including Received Signal Reference Power (RSRP), beam ID, and spectral efficiency, which are modeled as air interface utilization, channel bandwidth, and signal-to-noise ratio, respectively, providing input for the optimization algorithm, which seeks to achieve the optimal time-frequency-space resource allocation scheme. Extensive experimentation validates the effectiveness and superiority of our proposed methodology.

This paper investigates how customer loyalty can be enhanced by improving customers’ perceptions of corporate fairness towards public authorities, taking into account the mediating role of customer-company identification, in a multi-sectorial context, in a developing country in Central and Eastern Europe. The investigation is conducted comparatively within four main industries (telecom services, retail banking services, dairy products and personal care products) and depicts the particular impact these perceptions have on customer loyalty in each domain, with practical implications concerning corporate social responsibility (CSR) communications. A consumer survey was designed and implemented among a sample of 1464 customers from Romania. The collected data was analyzed by means of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). We found that customers’ perception of corporate fairness towards public authorities has a significant and positive impact on customer loyalty in all investigated industries, both directly and indirectly via customer-company identification, with a higher impact for services, especially for retail banking services.

Process mining is an emerging discipline which can extract knowledge from event logs that are available in information systems. In the security context, process mining is used to analyse security trails to detect anomalies in process execution. While some of the data mining projects are already implemented in banking, insurance and telecom sector the interesting question is: What is happening in public sector? This paper investigates the research on process mining techniques in security domain and tries to discover the examples of its implementation especially in public sector. The systematic review has been conducted in order to give an overview of state-of-the-art process mining techniques used in security context, to classify the main areas of development, algorithms, tools and to identify possible future research course.

Electronic contracts describe inter-organizational business processes in terms of supply and consumption of electronic services (commonly Web services). The establishment of e-contracts in a particular business domain usually involves a set of well-defined common and variable properties. These properties are not fully exploited by the existing e-contract establishment approaches. Feature modeling is a software engineering technique that has been widely used for capturing and managing commonalities and variabilities of product families in the context of software product line. This paper presents a feature-based approach to support Web services e-contract (WS-contract) establishment. The approach aims at improving the information structure and reuse of WS-contracts, including the QoS attributes. Features are used to represent possible WS-contract elements in order to drive WS-contract template instantiation, thus acting as a configuration space manager. A toolkit named FeatureContract was developed to automatically support the proposed approach. A case study was carried out within the telecom context to show the approach feasibility.

The distributed high temperature measurement of an optical fiber subjected to electric arc discharges based on optical frequency-domain reflectometry is experimentally demonstrated. The distributed temperature profile is attained in an open glow regime of a few milliamps with maximum detectable temperature up to 2100 ± 20 °C. The discharge arc-induced softened length of the fiber and mechanical stress are measured and statistically analyzed in terms of the correlation of the Rayleigh spectra. The large wavelength scanning range of OFDR enables much higher accuracy for the delay time measurement with a minimum measured delay of 40 fs. The delay shift over the entire heating range for a single discharge duration is statistically calculated by using a temporal correlation method. The reliability of the thermal sensitivity coefficient as 10 pm/°C for telecom single mode fiber (SMF, @1550 nm) is quantitatively analyzed and evaluated by the correlation coefficient. Lastly, a spectral mapping method is employed in spectrum monitoring for discharge dynamic impact on the optical path length (OPL) and local Rayleigh scatter.

In recent years, 5G has been the focus of research and development in the telecom industry. This paper aims to understand the development trend and technical hot spots of 5G technology through the patent analysis and build a citation network at the assignee organization level. The workflow of the paper is divided into four steps: patent data collection and cleaning, patent overview analysis, network creation and analysis, O-I index analysis. This article collected the patent data from the United States patent and trademark office (USPTO). We understand the application trend, technical hot spots, and leading players in the 5G domain through the patent overview analysis. We comprehend the structure and characteristics of the network and critical nodes from network topology analysis. By using O-I index analysis, we learn the flow of 5G technology knowledge between the organizations. This paper provides a useful analytical model for the patent analysis and technological knowledge flow in a specific field, which can be applied to patent analysis in other fields.

Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) can be found in an increasing number of application domains, such as the telecom industry, the automotive electronics sector, or automation technology as well as in the area of reconfigurable computing. In recent years, it can be observed that the open-source idea which is known from the software domain for a long time also became popular in the world of hardware and FPGA design. In the era of the Internet of Things, many of today’s electronic devices implement some kind of network interface with Ethernet being known as one of the most widely used network standards. Thus, there is consequently a high demand on available Ethernet implementations for FPGA platforms. The goal of this work is to survey available open-source Ethernet MAC IP cores, evaluate existing designs in terms of performance, resource utilization, code quality, or maturity, and to present and summarize the evaluation results herein. Furthermore, advantages of commercial solutions and related publication work are discussed. To the authors’ best knowledge, this is the first publication that evaluates and compares existing open-source Ethernet MAC IP cores on a large scale. This work should help designers to select an appropriate open-source Ethernet MAC for an FPGA design and shows possible pitfalls and things to pay attention when using an open-source IP core in general. Finally, the authors would like to show that the open-source community can be also very helpful in the world of hardware in terms of design reuse or time to market.

The study focuses on the importance of information sovereignty for the formation of a digital environment of trust. The author used the following methods: hypothesis building, idealization, legal modeling, and comparative legal method. Results. In the context of globalization and digital transformation, there is a modification of the forms and mechanisms of the implementation of socio-economic relations, the formation of new instruments of interaction. The emerging new and derivative risks, challenges and threats form an obvious request for the formation of an environment of trust for the implementation of the entire spectrum of public relations in the digital space. The article substantiates the relationship between ensuring information and technological sovereignty and the formation of a digital environment of trust in a modern state. The use of a territorial approach in relation to information infrastructure in determining the scope of state sovereignty in the information space is the prevailing approach in solving these tasks.Within the framework of this approach, the key components of information sovereignty have been implemented, including the mechanism of localization of personal data, the use of domain names on the territory of the Russian Federation, the establishment of requirements for telecom operators, the legal basis of activity for foreign persons operating on the Internet has been established.

The purpose of the study: to identify the main systems that control cyberspace and the key elements whose management will allow controlling a given segment of cyberspace. Research method: theory of complex systems; synergetic. Result: The paper considers the main control systems that play a key role in the management of cyberspace, highlights the structural elements of cyberspace and their interrelations with each other. Regional and local Internet registrars are considered, their coherence graph is presented, as well as the coherence graph by country. Based on the study, the author’s vision of the organizational structure of the cyberspace management system (in relation to domain names and IP addresses). Autonomous systems and traffic exchange points are considered, the structure of external connectivity of autonomous systems and its change over time are given on examples. The largest telecommunication alliances are presented, which have an impact on the activities of telecom operators (directly or indirectly) and, as a result, on the set of resources and services (as well as their cost) received by end users provided by telecommunication operators. Scientific novelty: the considered structure of the cyberspace management system made it possible to identify the main systems that control cyberspace and the key elements whose management will allow controlling a given segment of cyberspace.

This paper will be discussing how to predict the customers that might churn, R package is being used to do the prediction. R package helps represent large dataset churn in the form of graphs which will help to depict the outcome in the form of various data visualizations. Churn is a very important area in which the telecom domain can make or lose their customers and hence the business/industry spends a lot of time doing predictions, which in turn helps to make the necessary business conclusions. Churn can be avoided by studying the past history of the customers. Logistic Regression is been used to make necessary analysis. To proceed with logistic regression we must first eliminate the outliers that are present, this has be achieved by cleaning the data (for redundancy, false data etc) and the resultant has been populated into a prediction excel using which the analysis has been performed.

Optical switching is an essential part of photonic integrated circuits and the focus of research at the moment. In this research, an optical switch design working on the phenomenon of guided-mode resonances in a 3D photonic-crystal-based structure is reported. The optical-switching mechanism is studied in a dielectric slab-waveguide-based structure operating in the near-infrared range in a telecom window of 1.55 µm. The mechanism is investigated via the interference of two signals, i.e., the data signal and the control signal. The data signal is coupled into the optical structure and filtered utilizing guided-mode resonance, whereas the control signal is index-guided in the optical structure. The amplification or de-amplification of the data signal is controlled by tuning the spectral properties of the optical sources and structural parameters of the device. The parameters are optimized first using a single-cell model with periodic boundary conditions and later in a finite 3D-FDTD model of the device. The numerical design is computed in an open-source Finite Difference Time Domain simulation platform. Optical amplification in the range of 13.75% is achieved in the data signal with a decrease in the linewidth up to 0.0079 µm, achieving a quality factor of 114.58. The proposed device presents great potential in the field of photonic integrated circuits, biomedical technology, and programmable photonics.

These contextual peculiarities of CRM have got important implications for the sources of competitive performance in the process of CRM. It has been well accepted that CRM is a strategic initiative. But, surprisingly, the CRM literature is largely silent on the issue of competitive reaction in dynamic markets of emerging Asian economies. In such markets, the domain of CRM is characterized by lots of changes. Managers cannot rely on only static firm's resources that they have assembled to take CRM decisions and drive competitive advantage. Drawing from the theoretical argument in strategic management, i.e., dynamic capability approach, this study identifies sources of competitive performance for the process of CRM in dynamic capability. It is an organization's ability to continuously improve, innovate, and reconfigure resources to match the evolving environmental needs. Information technology (IT) competence has been considered as an important moderator of the relationship between dynamic capability and competitive performance. The study articulates the drivers of dynamic capability for CRM. Further, the study investigates the main effects, as well as the interaction effects of IT and dynamic capability on competitive performance of the CRM process. A questionnaire survey has been conducted, and data collected from a sample of 334 cross-functional executives of 29 organizations from Indian banking, telecom, and retail industry. Some of the important findings of the study are as follows: In the emerging markets of Asia, dynamic capability played a crucial role in gaining competitive CRM performance across all three industries. In the highly dynamic and competitive Indian telecom industry, the dynamic capability played the most important role. Important drivers of dynamic capability also include social networking capability with the other capabilities related to integration and market orientation. Contrary to the findings of the few studies in the Western context, CRM technology had positive effects on competitive CRM performance; it also enhanced the dynamic capability- competitive CRM performance relationships. In the absence of appropriate dynamic capabilities in the CRM process, the use of CRM technology might do more harm than good.

In 2013 the European Space Agency, in cooperation with Inmarsat, launched the Alphasat communication satellite hosting four Technology Demonstration Payloads (TDPs). One of them is the Aldo Paraboni payload, supported by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and executed by ESA in the framework of the Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) 8 Telecom program. In addition to the Communication experiment, it includes the Alphasat Scientific Experiment transmitting coherent beacon signals at Ka-band (19.701 GHz) and Q-band (39.402 GHz). The satellite supports a Europe-wide experiment to investigate the atmospheric propagation effects occurring in Ka and Q bands. The demand for increasing bandwidth in the satellite radio communication domain is moving the communication channels to the higher frequency bands. Hence for both research and commercial purposes is especially important to effectively explore the Q band that is affected by attenuation, depolarization and scintillation due to different atmospheric effects. In 2014 the Department of Broadband Infocommunications and Electromagnetic Theory at Budapest University of Technology and Economics joined the ASAPE (AlphaSat Aldo Paraboni Experimenters) group and developed a ground station to be installed in Budapest. This work was supported by the European Space Agency under its Plan for European Cooperating States program. Our paper gives the background of the Alphasat Scientific Experiment and overviews the design phases of the receiver station in Budapest. We present also the processing and validation of data recorded so far and our future experimenting plans.

Automated composition of Web services or the process of forming new value-added Web services is one of the most promising challenges facing the Semantic Web today. Semantics enables Web service to describe capabilities together with their processes, hence one of the key elements for the automated composition of Web services. In this paper, we focus on the functional level of Web services i.e. services are described according to some input, output parameters semantically enhanced by concepts in a domain ontology. Web service composition is then viewed as a composition of semantic links wherein the latter links refer to semantic matchmaking between Web service parameters (i.e. outputs and inputs) in order to model their connection and interaction. The key idea is that the matchmaking enables, at run time, finding semantic compatibilities among independently defined Web service descriptions. By considering such a level of composition, a formal model to perform the automated composition of Web services i.e. Semantic Link Matrix, is introduced. The latter model is required as a starting point to apply problem-solving techniques such as regression (or progression)-based search for Web service composition. The model supports a semantic context in order to find correct, complete, consistent and robust plans as solutions. In this paper, an innovative and formal model for an AI (Artificial Intelligence) planning-oriented composition is presented. Our system is implemented and interacting with Web services which are dedicated to Telecom scenarios. The preliminary evaluation results showed high efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

The issue of customer churn, which is a major problem in the telecommunications industry, poses several challenges, such as financial implications, client attrition, and increased marketing costs. The advancements achieved in the domain of machine learning and artificial intelligence have significantly expanded the possibilities for forecasting customer churn, presenting a promising resolution for effectively handling customer attrition and enhancing customer retention. This study presents a customer churn prediction model that uses machine learning approaches to assist telecom firms in enhancing customer retention and mitigating churn rates. The study employs machine learning techniques, such as Adaboost, Gradient Boosting, and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), in order to evaluate extensive datasets and provide predictions on customer churn via a comparative evaluation. The methodology involves extracting data from the Kaggle data pool, doing further data preparation, and identifying relevant features. The Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) is used as a strategy to mitigate the challenges posed by imbalanced data. The dataset is partitioned into training and testing sets at a ratio of 75% to 25%. The XGBoost model demonstrated superior accuracy and recall, positioning itself as the top-performing model among the studied models. The attained accuracy rate was 89.51%. The XGBoost method has a recall rate of 92.48%, which is the highest of the three algorithms evaluated. Gradient boosting follows with a recall rate of 87.69%, while Adaboost achieves a recall rate of 85.13%. These findings underscore the potential of machine learning techniques for addressing the challenges posed by customer churn in the telecommunications industry.

With the proliferation of cellular networks, the ubiquitous availability of new-generation multimedia devices, and their wide-ranging data applications, telecom network operators are increasingly deploying the number of cellular base stations (BSs) to deal with unprecedented service demand. The rapid and radical deployment of the cellular network significantly exerts energy consumption and carbon footprints to the atmosphere. The ultimate objective of this work is to develop a sustainable and environmentally-friendly cellular infrastructure through compelling utilization of the locally available renewable energy sources (RES) namely solar photovoltaic (PV), wind turbine (WT), and biomass generator (BG). This article addresses the key challenges of envisioning the hybrid solar PV/WT/BG powered macro BSs in Bangladesh considering the dynamic profile of the RES and traffic intensity in the tempo-spatial domain. The optimal system architecture and technical criteria of the proposed system are critically evaluated with the help of HOMER optimization software for both on-grid and off-grid conditions to downsize the electricity generation cost and waste outflows while ensuring the desired quality of experience (QoE) over 20 years duration. Besides, the green energy-sharing mechanism under the off-grid condition and the grid-tied condition has been critically analyzed for optimal use of green energy. Moreover, the heuristic algorithm of the load balancing technique among collocated BSs has been incorporated for elevating the throughput and energy efficiency (EE) as well. The spectral efficiency (SE), energy efficiency, and outage probability performance of the contemplated wireless network are substantially examined using Matlab based Monte–Carlo simulation under a wide range of network configurations. Simulation results reveal that the proper load balancing technique pledges zero outage probability with expected system performance whereas energy cooperation policy offers an attractive solution for developing green mobile communications employing better utilization of renewable energy under the proposed hybrid solar PV/WT/BG scheme.
