Currently, due to the existing potential regarding technology in the provision of services, the Peruvian government has developed solutions for its inhabitants. A survey conducted by the United Nations in 2016 endorses this fact, showing a high rate of technological development with respect to e-government. However, the same publication showed the low rate of citizen participation about it. These results show how, although there are many government technological services, these do not focus on the citizen or in their active participation, but mainly on technological development. In the present study, an adoption model is proposed, extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) incorporating public value, specifically environmental sustainability, as an external variable. The validation of the proposal was made through a validated survey with experts in the environmental field and applied to citizens of the Peruvian capital. Our results show that environmental sustainability is a factor that positively affects the adoption of e-government in Peru and that should be considered by the authorities as an enhancer of citizen participation about it.

Two decades of technological advances in internet, security, wireless, social media and networking technologies have introduced the most promising NFP systems - donor management systems (DMS). The number of DMSs available in the marketplace as well as the breadth of their feature and functionality offerings has grown tremendously to overcome NFP challenges which include program and service performance accountabil.ity, financial and operational transparency, and declines in funding sources. These systems enable NFP organizations to perform more intelligent campaigning and achieve a higher level of donor interactions resulting in greater monetary and voluntary contributions in addition to increases in donor and constituent advocacy and public support. Research indicates that NFP have experienced reduced operational and program costs, increased staff productivity, increased monetary contributions, when leveraging DMSs as part of a comprehensive fundraising program. While NFP adoption of the systems is increasing, adoption rates are much lower when compared to the for-profit sectors adoption cycle for newer technologies. Adopting the technology acceptance model (TAM), this study examined the factors that determine health and human service NFP employees' behavioral intentions to use DMSs. The proposed models included the original TAM factors of perceived usefulness and ease of use and incorporated the additional factors of user experience and organizational support, which have been found to influence an individual's intention to use technology. The model's predictive capability was measured using multiple regression techniques against data captured via an electronic survey sent to 100 health and human service organizations in the Mississippi Delta region of the US. Results from the 173 participant responses indicated that perceived ease of use and DMS experience directly influenced user perceptions toward DMSs and their subsequent intention to use the systems. The findings further indicated that the factors of perceived usefulness, NFP experience, and Organizational support did not significantly extend the model in predicting behavioral intention. The research was not able to replicate typical predictive capabilities of the core TAM in the context of health and human services NFP organizations.

New technologies are constantly introduced in our everyday life. Societies and people have reaped great benefits from integrating information technology into a plethora of societal and commercial functions. However, innovations are not unconditionally accepted by users. Since digital innovations constantly are introduced to aid us, there is an interest in understanding what factors would either influence us or make us prone to adopt new technologies. The main research question is to identify the key influences, both positive and negative, within technology adoption. The scope was limited to Scandinavian supermarkets and the technology of adoption intention was the Smart Cart; a seamless approach to make your shopping experience easier. Through a value-based acceptance model (VAM), a quantitative survey was conducted to explore consumers, attitudes towards Smart Cart through the factors perceived usefulness (PU), perceived enjoyment (PE), perceived privacy risk (PPR) and perceived difficulty to use (PDU), in relation to the perceived value (PV) of the product which can eventually lead to intention to adopt and use(IAU). The findings showed that perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived enjoyment (PE) demonstrated a strong positive correlation to potential users’ perceived value (PV) of Smart Cart while perceived privacy risk (PPR) showed a weak negative and perceived difficulty to use (PDU) showed a medium-strong positive correlation to potential consumers’ perceived value (PV) of the product. Potential consumers’ perception of Smart Cart’s value (PV) showed a strong positive correlation with intention to adopt and use (IAU).

Purpose: Low citizen adoption rates jeopardize the success and proliferation of e-government systems. This study aims to understand how the perception of environmental sustainability (ES) can influence a citizen’s intention to use e-government systems. Design/methodology/approach: In a case study in Peru, the technology acceptance model (TAM) adoption model is extended with the construct of ES and evaluated with structural equation modeling. An 18-element, in-person survey was constructed and administered to citizens of Lima, Peru who had prior exposure to e-government systems. Findings: The results show that citizens can be positively influenced to adopt e-government systems if they perceive that doing so will contribute to ES. Research limitations/implications: As this was a preliminary study, further research should focus on specific, as opposed to general, e-government systems, as well as encompassing a broader cross section of the population. Practical implications: Administrators of e-government initiatives can consider public-interest factors, alongside of the common self-interest factors, when looking to improve adoption rates of e-government systems. Originality/value: This is the first time that TAM has been extended with the construct of ES.

The streaming of audiobooks is a new and fast-growing phenomenon amongst Swedish consumers. There exists a lack of knowledge on this topic as it is previously unexplored within academia. As the audiobook streaming services are growing it is important for providers and competitors to understand the key factors determining usage intention from an end-user’s perspective. This thesis therefore examines what factors influence end-user’s adoption of audiobook streaming-services, the examination extends both for consumers intention to begin using as well as continue using the service. Factors related to the end-user’s usage intention were explored and identified in a Swedish context. A theoretical model consisting of eight hypotheses was constructed to examine the relationships between five variables. The model is based on previous literature of technology adoption and in particular the technology acceptance model (TAM). Additional theory was gathered on previous research on similar technologies such consumers adoption of E-books and E-readers. To achieve the research purpose of the thesis, a quantitative method was used and data was gathered through an online questionnaire with 935 (769 valid) responses. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used with RStudio to test the collected data on our theoretical model. The results showcased that our model was successful in explaining key factors influencing usage intention. The findings indicate that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use influence usage intention positively, while end-user’s attachment to paper books and reading impact usage intention negatively. Further results and the implications of these results are discussed.

This thesis describes effects of use and reasons for using three different organisational innovations: ISO 9000, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and an administrative tool (the YAF-module) in the Swedish Sports Confederation’s system Swedish Sports Online. This is done through three separate studies. The first study is directed at Swedish Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME) and the two following studies are directed at Swedish sport associations. The thesis contains three separate essays presenting the studies and an introductory part where the studies are compared.

In the introductory part of the thesis the interaction patterns between organisation and innovation are compared and discussed. I discuss the level of effort put into the decision and implementation processes, and how this is related to the satisfaction with the innovations. The patterns that emerged are quite different in the three studies. Understanding these different interaction patterns between organisation and innovation is a step away from a beneficial/ detrimental dichotomy of innovations.

The decision and implementation processes differ between the three studies regarding what parts of the organisations were involved. In the first study we saw top down decision and implementation processes, whereas in the second study we saw bottom or middle up processes. In the third study the decision and implementation was much narrower in scope, often involving only one person. I also describe how all perspectives (efficient choice, forced selection, fad and fashion perspective) suggested by Abrahamson (1991), bear some grain of truth for the adoption of ISO 9000 by SMEs and adoption of ICT by sport associations, whereas imitation (the fad and fashion perspectives) is less important in the adoption of the YAF-module. Furthermore, I discuss the parallels between human and organisational decisionmaking.

Summary of the first essay – The aim of the first study is to investigate the effects of quality management in accordance with the ISO 9000 as viewed by both quality managers and other managers. We also consider the way companies carried out the recertification process to ISO 9001:2000 and what consequences different approaches brought. The study is based on Swedish SMEs with an ISO 9000:1994 who had recertified according to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. The strongest, most obvious and most valued effects of the ISO 9000 standard are clearer and more apparent working procedures and responsibilities. The most apparent problem is bureaucracy, which according to some managers can lead to reduced flexibility. The effects of the certification vary depending on how the certification project is conducted and how consultants are used.

Summary of the second essay – This essay presents a descriptive study of the use of information and communication technology (ICT) and the change in communication patterns in Swedish sport associations over the period 1994 to 2003. The change is discussed in light of Internet and broadband diffusion. Results show that new channels for communication have been adopted, primarily Web sites and e-mail, but few established channels have been dropped. While there are associations that save time and money and increase the spirit of community using ICT, many organisations experience the increased number of communication channels as a burden since maintaining them takes extra resources but the benefits are not always easy to detect or measure. Certain characteristics common among non profit organisations (NPOs) as well as Internet and broadband access have influenced the development of ICT use.

Summary of the third essay – This essay presents a new model for analysing adoption of discretionary, public information systems (PIS) with digital use patterns (such as use or non-use, as opposed to frequency of use, or degree of engaged or compliant use). The model is based on Rogers’ innovation diffusion theory (IDT) and Nilsson’s user centred access model (UCAM). The model is an alternative to the general technology acceptance model (TAM). The AKAM-Model identifies six prerequisites for use and four management approaches and describes how these are related. To illustrate its applicability, the AKAM-Model is used to analyse the adoption of a specific module, the YAF-module, in the Swedish Sports Confederation’s (SSC) system Swedish Sports Online. We present empirical results that indicate the frequency and importance of the barriers and driving forces as experienced by the YAF-module users and the potential YAF-module users.

The growing popularity of the internet and its activities have opened a wide range of business opportunities especially in terms of e-business. Though, reports show that the adoption rate of e-commerce in developed countries seem to be striving, a lot of developing countries still struggle with slow e-commerce adoption rate. Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is one these countries where e-commerce adoption is still in its infant stages. However, because of the recent infrastructure improvements and the growth in telecommunication services in the country, internet penetration, more specifically, mobile Internet penetration is growing at a significantly fast pace. This could mean opportunities for e-business services in DRC. The objective of this research is to investigate the factors that could influence online shopping adoption in DRC. This investigation was carried out by adapting an extended version of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). A quantitative approach was used in the collection of data and the data was edited and analyzed using the programming language, R. Also, the analytical techniques used in conducting this research include: Descriptive Statistical Methods (Cross tabulation, frequencies) and inferential Statistical Methods (Logistic Regression, ANOVA and Chi square tests). The results from this research show that contrary to the conceptualized model in the literature review where the main constructs included: Perceived Ease of Use(PEOU), Perceived Usefulness(PU) and Perceived Trust(PT), it appears that Perceived Ease of Use(PEOU) does not have any significance in a user’s intention to shop online(p>0.01). However, this research found that Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Trust have a strong statistical significance to a user’s intention to shop online. Furthermore, we found that Gender, Income and Age do not have any moderating influence on the relationship between a user’s perception and their intention to shop online in DRC. However, when the relationship between VI perception and intention to shop online is moderated by experience, we find that there is a variation between users with prior online shopping experience and those without. While these research findings make for remarkable recommendations on a user’s intention to shop online, we recommend that further research on actual usage of e-commerce be examined in DRC to get a better understanding of consumer online behaviors.

Health information technology (HIT) aims to improve healthcare services by means of technological tools. Patient centered technologies such as personal health records are relatively new HIT tools that enable individuals to get involved in their health management activities. These tools enable the transformation of health consumer behavior from one of passive health information consumers to that of active managers of their health information. This new role is more interactive and engaged, and with such tools, patients can better navigate their lives, and exercise more control over their treatments, hence potentially also leading to improvement in the quality of health services. Despite the benefits of using personal health record systems for health consumers, the adoption rate of these systems remains low. Many free and paid services have not received the uptake that had been anticipated when these services were first introduced. This study investigates some factors that affect the adoption of these systems, and may shed light on some potential reasons for low adoption rates. In developing the theoretical model of this study, social cognitive theory (SCT) and technology acceptance model (TAM) were utilized. The theoretical model was validated through a quantitative survey-based methodology, and the results were derived using structural equation modeling techniques. The key findings of this study highlight the role of individual and environmental factors as determinants of end-user behavior in the adoption of personal health records. The results show that in addition to perceptions of usefulness and ease of use, factors such as social norms and technology awareness are also significantly associated with various factors that directly and indirectly affect intention to use PHRs Based on the results obtained in this study, recommendations are offered for technology providers, and possible directions are proposed for academic researchers.

The following study examines the background of users’ decisions about their behavior concerning online identity, specifically looking at the acceptance or rejection of self-sovereign identity solutions and the technologies that support them: blockchain and asymmetric encryption. A qualitative analysis is presented of typical user narratives concerning online behavior, while exploring the cultural values underlying users’ decisions about accepting or rejecting new, potentially emancipatory technologies. The results include inventories of values and beliefs that played a key part in informing the respondents’ behaviors, and presents four distilled narratives of reasoning about online identity in the form of the archetypes of the Pragmatist, the Self-doubter, the Cyber-conscious and the Futurist user, each representing a specific set of values, beliefs and their interplay resulting in specific intentions and behaviors, along with design guidelines for innovative blockchain technologies based on the user expectations in these narratives. The research concludes with relating the findings to existing theory, and proposing a number of quantitatively testable hypotheses for the refinement of technology acceptance research in the specific domain of online security and identity.

This study focuses on the implementation of Learning Management System (LMS) in the higher education sector in Iraq. Its aim is to develop a policy adoption framework for LMS implementation by scientifically investigating LMS adoption using a model that combines the principles of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Technology-Organisation-Environment (TOE) framework. The research methodology comprises of seven stages that adopts the interpretive paradigm and a mixed-methods research design. A case study design is used to investigate LMS integration in the University of Al-Qadisiyah. A TAM-TOE questionnaire is developed for the academic staff of the University of Al-Qadisiyah, in which the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of LMS are analysed in the case organisation. The technological, organisational, and environmental aspects of LMS implementation are also examined. The survey received valid responses from 283 academic staff. In-depth semi-structured interviews of 8 academics, administrative staff and IT personnel contributed to the qualitative data. The survey respondents are selected using stratified sampling whilst purposive sampling is used to select the interview participants. The questionnaire data was analysed using correlation analysis, whilst thematic analysis is used for the interview data. The study identifies the barriers to LMS implementation as: Lack of or limited teachers’ training, lack of commitment to constructivist pedagogy, lack of experience to use the new technology, lack of technical support, and lack of appropriate educational software. These results feed into the policy framework design. The contribution to research knowledge includes the creation of a new adoption model derived from TAM and TOE to examine the LMS implementation barriers in a war recovering economy like Iraq. This approach the integration of academic users’ acceptance with macro-level factors like government support. The results lease to the development of the LMS policy framework to guide policy makers to prioritise their limited LMS investments. The novelty of the work is the bringing together the considerations of the individual users and the socio-economic context.

Cloud computing emerges when we talk about the necessity of the IT developers to always increase or add new capabilities, as soon as possible, with the lowest investment possible. It has been appointed as one of the biggest IT innovations in the recent years, and for that reason it’s been calling the attention of the academic and management communities. Even with the growing interest by the academic community, most of the research focus on technical aspects, such as computational potencial and costs. Researches involving professionals’ preferences with cloud computing as a business tool are limited to consultant and private studies at most. This research has the purpose of presenting a study about the impact of different dimensions in the intention of adoption of cloud computing by IT professionals. To do so, it uses a variation of the TAM/UTAUT model for the verification of the intention of adopting new technologies. The research method is the survey research, made with a previously proposed and adapted instrument, conducted in two stages: pre-test study and final study. Different statistical techniques were used to refine the instrument, such as Reliability Analisis, Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis, this one using the PLS (Partial Least Squares) Path modeling for SEM (Structural Equation Modeling). As a result of this refinement, emerged a theorical research model containing 8 dimensions and 36 measuring items. As contribution to the IS area, the theorical model proved adequate to assess the intention of adoption of cloud computing by IT professionals. The research’s main contribution to the business practice is the model of cloud computing intention of adoption, that aids cloud providers, trought the measurement of the main reasons behind the adoption of the technology, wich are Perceived Utility and Attitude Towards Technology Innovation. Also demonstrates that there are no positive relation between Security and Trust and the Behaviorial Intention. Twelve of the hypothesis were sustained, and six of the proposed hypothesis were denied by the data. This information intends to inspire efforts in developing the technology as a business tool.

Several studies on the acceptance and use of information technology have been conducted by different conceptual models that seek to demonstrate the existence of factors that influence the intention and behavior of users on a particular information system. Some aspects that enhance the use of intentions can be essential for the individual to choose whether or not a particular technology. This study examined the background factors that can influence the intended use of the Virtual Library of an Institution of Higher Education. Among the conceptual models studying the adoption of information technology, it was decided in this study the use of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) proposed by Davis (1986). In this model the external variables were also added stimulus Professor and smoker in order to expand the power of explanation of the intended use of the users in question. Through a quantitative research approach, data were collected through a survey tool to obtain 406 questionnaires responses. The results of this research confirms that the influence of various factors positioned in different dimensions provide findings relevant to the adoption of virtual library. It concludes that the Teacher Incentive positively influences Ease of Use, Perceived Usefulness and the Habit of undergraduate students on the intended use of the Virtual Library. Thus, it was found that the influence of the teacher becomes a determining factor in the use of virtual library intention, which emphasizes the importance of guidance and recommendation of teachers in the use of this technological tool. The study concluded that the perceived usefulness proved to be the factor that most influences the intention to use this technology because there is a perception that if the student will use the virtual library, you can improve your performance in studies, among others. The habit can also influence the adoption of a virtual library in parallel to perceptions about the benefits that can be obtained from the use of this technology.

Cloud Computing is a model that has brought revolutionary changes in the way Information Technology (IT) is distributed. As benefits, it stands out the feasibility of fast access possible from anywhere to resources made available as on-demand services that help to create new business models. However, with IT assets outside the organization, interest in adoption studies have increased. The literature describes the use of several adoption models, among which are the Technology-Acceptance-Model (TAM) and the Technology-Organizational-environment (TOE). One research used the TAM-TOE combination and revealed a good degree of prediction to justify adoptions, but indicated the need for case studies to better understanding of adoptions in other contexts, raising the question: how should the process of adopting cloud computing occur regarding organizational and environmental questions? A systematic literature review was conducted to confirm research gaps and to broaden the TAM-TOE model, highlighting elements of institutional theory and its influence in the adoption process. This is a qualitative, descriptive and structured research using multiple case studies, with unit of analysis defined by the study of the process of adopting a cloud service in a large company characterized as support in the IT strategic grid model. Seven units were analyzed by addressing institutional pressures on top management, service evaluations and contract licensing terms. The study contributes to the elucidation of different behaviors of the institutional pressures on the top management in the decision making for its adoption, emphasizing the coercive mechanisms. It exposes situations in which the service management might require the participation of IT in the traditional way and the discussion of contractual aspects about the licensing of services. Finally, a reflection on the use of the model, method and limitations of the research is presented, indicating future studies.

The present research aims to understand the end user involvement in the Information System (IS) development influence in IS adoption by proposing and testing a specific theoretical model. A systematic review was carried out in which 133 articles were analyzed and its result is a Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) modification proposition. This model includes variables related to the user's involvement: situational involvement and intrinsic involvement. Afterwards, the test of the proposed model was carried out from a survey with 114 respondents, whose data were analyzed through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The test allowed inferring that the hypotheses raised were correct and that user involvement is significant within IS adoption context. Finally, a fractional factorial design of experiments (DOE) with seven factors was done to verify how two types of involvement are related. It was evidenced that the composition of the effect of situational involvement major factors and double interactions explains up to 57% of intrinsic involvement variation The main theoretical contributions of the dissertation are about the consistency provided by the methods used. The theoretical subsidy provided by the systematic review allowed development of theoretical relations with safety. The combined EFA and CFA use is strongly indicated to give robustness to the research. Likewise, SEM presented significant utility in research context, although it is indicated caution when making model modifications to fit analysis quality parameters. Finally, fractional factorial DOE with seven factors is uncommon in the literature, but it was extra useful to verify interaction quality between types of involvement.

In this study, the research model based on the technology acceptance model (TAM) (DAVIS et al., 1989) and innovation diffusion theory (IDT) (ROGERS, 2003) was used to analyze the relation between the characteristics of innovation and teacher s behavior in the process of adoption and use of Moodle in the undergraduate courses at distance. Survey was applied with 162 teachers at distance of Universidade Federal da Paraíba Virtual, issue focusing on the perceived characteristics of innovation, attitude and intention about the use of Moodle. Multivariate statistical techniques were performed: 1) content-vality to analyze the complete structure of scale for relevance and representativeness of items and to verify which items refer to construct in question; 2) exploratory factory analysis to know the structure of interrelationship of the original variables of IDT; 3) confirmatory factor analysis to guarantee conceptual validity for the pattern observed; 4) coefficient alpha to verify the homogeneity of set of items; 5) ANOVA to verify the likely differences between the groups of respondents; and 6) multiple regression analysis to analyze the relation between constructs. Results showed that not all factors of IDT had effect on attitude and intention. Only three constructs had significant effect on attitude and/or intention: relative advantage+compatibility for work style (β = 0,792), visibility (β = 0,166) and result demonstrability (β = 0,152). Moreover, teachers had a positive attitude in relation to use of Moodle and a positive intention in relation to use in the future. It was not possible to confirm all the relation of TAM, probably this verification was been compromised for some problems in the measurement process, thus, the only unsupported relationship of TAM was the effect of complexity on attitude. An academic contribution was that although some constructs of IDT did not show effect on the constructs of TAM, the model provided evidence of appropriated application of constructs of TAM with IDT to measure attitude and intention of use of Moodle. A management contribution was the understanding and prediction the teacher s behavior in relation to adoption and use process of Moodle, being possible to verify the effectiveness of innovative project of distance learning in the UFPB Virtual.

This research work investigates and reports on the contribution of usability and perceptual frameworks towards understanding and ultimately increasing usage of a sales website and a corporate marketing website for a major insurance company in South Africa. It investigates whether the application of usability principles to the sales web positively influences the usage of the sales web system as a tool by intermediaries, and in so doing help the organisation recoup their investment and lower operational costs. This financial services (traditionally insurance) company, like many organisations, is in the process of migrating key operational systems onto web platforms to take advantage of benefits such as the ubiquity of web access and services orientated architecture among others. The research reviewed key frameworks in the area of technology acceptance or usage namely  Nielsen‟s usability attributes (Nielsen, 2003)  The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), (Davis, 1989)
 The Theory of Reasoned Action (Fishbein &
Ajzen, 1975)  The Theory of Planned Behavior (Ajzen, 1985)
and derived a theoretical summative model (the Conceptual Research Model) that combined both usability and perceptual dimensions. The applicability of this summative model was empirically tested using quantitative data relating to system
usage and user perception. Empirical evidence was gathered to prove and refine the Conceptual Research Model (CRM), and the data substantiated the inclusion of the constructs in the CRM, as well as the efficacy of the model in a financial services organisation. Through testing of the CRM, this research has also confirmed which specific attributes of usability can be focussed on to bring about positive change in users‟ usage behaviour and adoption of a website or web application.

This thesis aims to address why the adoption of CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) within the language classroom is so varied, and its success so unclear, despite fifty years of investment and research. The huge promise of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) driven results has created an imbalance in language teaching, where initiatives are brought about from outside the classroom, with teachers held accountable for their adoption. My reading of the literature is that lack of consideration of the teacher’s role in implementation of classroom technology has led to mismatched expectations and performance. If the nature of the teacher’s contribution is recognized, I believe that this can lead to more effective use of ICT, which I have set out to show. My study, based on a survey of 319 EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teachers across the international group of 31 schools in which I work, seeks to put the teacher back into the picture by examining where their enacted beliefs in social constructivist pedagogy best align with classroom use of digital technology. I coin this emerging praxis ‘microblending’, a pedagogy rooted in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theory and contemporary methodology, and I seek to demonstrate its relevance in this study I test the viability of measuring teacher’s microblending readiness through application of Technology Acceptance Modelling (TAM) in an EFL setting to produce a model that explains the variation in classroom use of ICT. My model is based on a critical replication of the WST (‘Will, Skill, Tool’) model, a TAM model which has so far only been used in mainstream classroom teaching. I have updated, created and piloted new instruments within the scope of the study, which are now already in use within the institution where I carried out my investigations. Using both linear regression and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) techniques I explored how these measurements of the learning environment can explain a teacher’s application of technology. This first attempt appears to explain over 89% of the variation in classroom use of technology, which already exceeds the predictive power of several contemporary models in use in parallel fields of education. Given further work to refine and apply the model, a valuable improvement could be made in how teachers work with ICT in the language classroom for improved learning outcomes.

The widespread use of smartphones and technological advances in near-field communication technologies are quickly transforming mobile payment systems. These technologies have made it possible for consumers to use their smartphones to pay for their purchases through various payments systems such as Apple’s iPay, MasterPass and V.me. These mobile payment systems, commonly referred to as mobile wallets, are designed to eliminate the need for consumers to carry multiple credit cards in their wallets, thereby making it more convenient for consumers to shop. Mobile wallets represent a major advance in mobile marketing because they are another major channel through which marketers can better reach and serve customers in a very personalized way. Realizing the potential benefits of mobile wallets for both marketers and consumers depends on the speed of adoption of this new technology. This study examines the factors that influence consumers’ decision to adopt mobile wallets. Drawing on the theoretical technology adoption and diffusion literatures, a model of the factors that influence mobile wallet adoption is proposed and tested with data collected from 530 respondents. The purpose of this study was to develop a new technology acceptance model by combining TAM with IDT and exploring the factors that affect people’s behavioral intentions to use Mobile Wallet. Based on our proposed model, we explored the relationships among three innovative characteristics with PU and PEU with subjective norm which affect individuals’ intention for using Mobile Wallet. The results of this study show that some factors significantly influenced people behavioral intention to use Mobile Wallet. The effect of the trialability on the perceived usefulness is supported in this study. Subjective norm and awareness are correlated with the users’ perceived ease of use in Mobile Wallet. The findings suggest extended model of TAM for the acceptance of the Mobile Wallet can help industry players who are looking to build public demand and increase usage of Mobile Wallet.

One of the most pressing needs society has in 2012 is addressing the plight of the 4 billion people, globally, who live at the bottom of the economic pyramid. Unless initiatives are undertaken to alleviate poverty and hardship in this portion of society, human potential will be wasted and the economic burden on the rest of society to support them will remain significant. In South Africa a significant portion of the population live at the bottom of the pyramid. One initiative to alleviate poverty and hardship is to enable bottom of the pyramid people who are excluded from formal financial services to access to them. By accessing formal financial services they would be able to safely save and borrow money. They would also be able to escape exploitative informal financial practices. Technology has the potential to expand access to financial services and reduce the cost of service provision. To date, however, it has not delivered on its promise of expanding financial inclusion at the bottom of the pyramid. Intermediaries, too, have been used to increase access to financial services but have also not successfully expanded financial inclusion at the bottom of the pyramid. Understanding which factors would allow these approaches to realize their potential has the ability to meaningfully contribute to addressing the plight of people at the bottom of the pyramid. This study brings together the potential of technology and the role of intermediaries to model expanding financial inclusion at the bottom of the pyramid in South Africa. The Technology Acceptance Model is used as a basis to propose an extended TAM model that explains adoption of technology enabled financial services through an intermediary at the bottom of the pyramid in South Africa. The proposed model is validated using structural equation modelling with data collected in a national survey in South Africa. The extended TAM model successfully explains more than 90% of the behavioural intention of financially excluded people at the bottom of the pyramid to adopt financial services through an intermediary. Using the findings, a strategic approach to expanding financial inclusion at the bottom of the pyramid is proposed.

Organizations spend billions of dollars on information and data security, and most of this expenditure is directed externally; however, there is ample evidence in the literature that employees account for most security breaches. For information security (IS) measures to work, employees need to adopt the organization’s information system security measures. To understand employees’ adoption of security systems in the manufacturing industry in the US, this empirical study tested the extended Technology Acceptance model and Theory of Planned behavior in relation to employees’ perceptions of the IS measures usefulness, ease of use, and subjective norms and how these perceptions predicted their intention to use the security measures. Additionally, under investigation was whether age and employees’ perception of managerial support moderated the aforementioned perceptions to affect employees’ intention to use the security measures. Results of a standard multiple regression and a hierarchical regression indicated that the TAM and the TBP explained variances in the DV; however, contrary to extant literature, employees’ perceived usefulness of IS measures did not statistically significantly predict their intention to use IS measures. Implications of these findings are discussed, as well as recommendations for future research.

Executives and directors are seeking to transform their enterprises into more efficient operations to achieve a competitive advantage and increase shareholder value. In addition, modern enterprises are deploying new technologies to attain the desired efficiencies inherently promised by technology advancements. However, the transformation and technology adoption results vary considerably between failure and success. Therefore, to identify an efficient and consistent method for guiding transformation efforts, we conducted a literature review of the technology adoption models, enterprise transformations, systems of systems, and human factors to identify efforts directed at integrating these research areas. This holistic approach guided the research method in which we subsequently conducted a qualitative action research case study to identify the influencers of technology adoption factors. The results of the case study identified the factors of human perception (salience, effort, expectancy, and value) are key influencers that accelerate technology adoption during the deployment phase similar to the application of human factors during the development phase of the technology lifecycle. These influencers generate perceived value for the technology and tools employed during enterprise transformations. Furthermore, we propose a model for using technological capabilities to enhance enterprise transformations based on context, process-based work instructions, work-instruction-based training, and subject-matter-expert desk-side support. Consequently, we determined that this perceived value technology adoption model should be a preferred tool for new technology deployments in addition to updating existing deployed technology for increased value that can be leveraged for lasting enterprise transformations.

The 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed under the Obama administration, mandated physicians to complete certification for electronic medical records (EMRs). Despite these mandates and the increased access to information technology, slow adoption rates persist on the use of EMRs. Guided by the theory of planned behavior and the technology acceptance model, the purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the relationship between the independent variables perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, perceived behavioral control, perceived social influence, attitudes toward EMR, and the dependent variable user acceptance. This study identified physicians in the United States as end-users of EMRs. In this study, 76 randomly selected physicians in the United States, identified as end-users of EMRs, completed an electronic survey requiring responses to a 5-point Likert Scale model. Standard multiple regression analysis served as the means used to analyze the regression model. Despite the regression model being statistically significant, none of the individual independent variables had statistical significance in predicting user acceptance. Interdependence and homoscedasticity likely contributed to this phenomenon. Social change implications include understanding of physician perceptions and beliefs--how physician perceptions and beliefs affect EMR adoption. Because adoption rates did not achieve 100% certification by end-users, another social change implication includes the necessity of examining how end-user acceptance could decrease medical errors, increase efficiencies in physician workload, and improve communication within the health care industry.

Abstract The research described in this article can be described as an explorative study that focused on obtaining and analysing perceptions and attitudes of public sector officials in Pretoria regarding the possible introduction of teleworking in their working environment. The term teleworking was understood in the sense of using computers to work from home or working at a distance away from the office. The research question that was posed was: What perceptions and attitudes exist among public sector officials in Pretoria that could contribute to, or impede, the acceptance of teleworking in South African government departments? Specific attention was given to perceptions of possible benefits or other impacts of teleworking, indications of public sector officials' ability to use computers for teleworking purposes, attitudes toward computers and teleworking, and the behavioural intention to use teleworking in future. The questionnaire and results were structured along the lines of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) of Davis. It was found that there was firm support among the officials for public sector teieworking - especially in terms of those views and perceptions that served as indicators for relevant TAM constructs such as 'perceived ease of use regarding teleworking', 'perceived usefulness of teleworking', 'attitude toward teleworking' and 'intention to use teleworking'.

Today, in the world of information technology, conceptual model representation of database schemas is challenging for users both in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) domain. The primary way to resolve this issue, in both domains, is to use a model that is concise, interpretable and clear to understand, yet encompasses all of the required information to be able to clearly define the database. A temporal database is understood as a database capable of supporting reasoning of time-based data for e.g.: a temporal database can answer questions such as: - for what period was Mrs Jones single before she got married? On the other hand, an atemporal database stores data that is valid today and has no history. In the thesis, I looked at different theoretical temporal visual conceptual models proposed by temporal researchers and aimed, by means of a user-survey consisting of business users, to ascertain towards which models users a preference has. I further asked the users for firstly; whether they prefer textual or graphical representations for the entities, attributes and constraints represented by the visual models, or secondly; whether there is a preference for a specific graphical icon for the temporal entities and lastly; to ascertain if the users show a preference towards a specific theoretical temporal conceptual model. The methodology employed to reach my goal in this thesis, is one of experiments on business users with knowledge enhancements after each experiment. Users were to perform a task, and then based on analysis of the task results, they are taught additional temporal aspects so as improve their knowledge before the next experiment commences. The ultimate aim was to extract a visual conceptual model preference from business users with enhanced knowledge of temporal aspects. This is the first work done in this field and thus will aid researchers in future work, as they will have a temporal conceptual model that promotes effective communication, understandability and interpretability.

New information systems will only improve organisational performance if they are accepted and used to their full capacity. It is therefore important to be able to understand, explain and predict the factors affecting technology acceptance. One model which has been successful at this is the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM; Davis, 1986). This study tests an extension of the TAM in a mandatory usage environment. The extended TAM proposed here incorporates two new independent measures; past behaviour and perceived behavioural control. Participants were 285 members of an Australian Government Department who had been using a new information system for approximately 4 months. Usage of the system was mandated in organisational policy and there were no alternative systems or processes available to participants to complete their job requirements. Results indicate that when information system usage is mandatory (or nonvolitional) perceived behavioural control significantly increases the ability of the extended TAM to predict system acceptance behaviour. Furthermore, self-reports of system usage were not related to the participants intention to use the system and user satisfaction was the only dependent variable accurately predicted by the model. Past behaviour did not predict either behavioural intention or behaviour in this study. The implications of these findings for technology acceptance in modern organisations and areas for future research are discussed.

Each year, companies will spend millions of dollars developing or migrating to new software systems in their business processes. Much of the focus of development and implementation has been based upon customer need (i.e., requirements), and rightly so. Equally important to requirements, however, are the usersâ perceptions of the software. Does a user actually think a piece of software would help them meet the need identified? Does the user think it would be easy for them to implement this software as a solution? What do the people around the user think and how does that opinion affect theirs? It is important to understand what factors determine whether a potential user will adopt a software application and how much they will use it? A commonly used model for explaining this is the Technology Acceptance Model. Davis (1989) found that subjective belief about a software system is most closely related to the actual intention to use it. Specifically, Davis uses Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use in the Technology Acceptance Model to model intention to use a software system statistically. Neither of these subjective views are formed by a potential user in isolation. The opinions and behavior of others can potentially exert a great deal of influence on an individualâ s perception of these factors. Davis himself points out the omission of social influence in the original Technology Acceptance Model was due to measurement difficulties rather than to its potential value in the model. Difficulty in measuring social influence is evidenced by the lack of a definitive scale of social influence. By its common use in many studies, Subjective Norm has become the â defacto standardâ for measuring social influence but this has not resulted in a consistently significant measure of social influence. The goal of this current study is two-fold. The primary goal is to incorporate a validated scale of social influence into the original Technology Acceptance Model which preserves the modelâ s parsimony while significantly increasing its explained variance. Secondarily, in doing so, a modified scale based upon Subjective Norms will be verified and tested. In response to a recognized shortcoming of Subjective Norm, a cognitive element will be included into the modified scale. In this current study the modification of Subjective Norm was developed based upon existing research on the topic. The Technology Acceptance Model is augmented by the proposed scale and tested over four surveys. Two systems are chosen for study because of the nature of their use; use of one (Filebox) is voluntary, and use of the other (Blackboard) is compulsory. The results of the survey were consistent across all four surveys, with the model predicting over 40% of the variation in behavior every time. Including the modified scale of Subjective Norm significantly increased the explained variance of the model (i.e., R2) in every survey. The results verify the reliability and validity of the modified scale of Subjective Norm. These four studies make a strong case for including this scale of social influence as a regular scale in the Technology Acceptance Model for future research. Future directions for studying the scale and the resulting model are also discussed. The resulting behavioral model is a valuable tool that will give software developers and managers more forethought and insight into the development of and migration to specific software systems.

Service delivery in the twenty-first generation is evolving into more digital forms expanding the consumers' experience and engaging in new forms of communications to consumers through these digital forms. Despite the initiation of self- service technology being widely accepted by consumers within the retail banking industry, the supermarket retail industry has yet to experience the same form of reception and implementation of the self- service technologies (SST). South Africa, being a developing country, any conventions that lead to the country’s progression should be embraced. Thus, the introduction of SST within retail is assumed to enhance consumer's experiences, these technologies open the prospects to generate possibilities for producing new services and enhancing efficiency. The study aimed at evaluating factors of perception through the employment of a conceptualized framework from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). An understanding of why SSTs in retail have not been widely implemented would respond to the challenges associated with the adoption of SSTs from a consumer’s perspective. The findings, from a questionnaire survey posed, revealed that there is a high expression on the intention of using the technologies should the opportunity presents itself. Most of the participants exhibited a high familiarity with the self-service technologies, online purchasing, and self- check- out services, thus the measure of intent resulted in a high margin.

This study will create a model to determine the level of adoption of eServices (consisting of eCommerce and eBanking) within Dubai, an Emirate within the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and how this adoption has been influenced by an individual’s exposure to an ‘Emerging and Developing Economy’ and/or an ‘Advanced Economy’. The study investigates the ‘enablers’ and ‘inhibitors’ for individuals belonging to the Emerging and Developing Economies, Advanced Economies and a hybrid of the two. Lastly, for those individuals who do partake in eServices the researcher also identifies similar trends and differences in usage patterns between Dubai and Advanced Economy countries and regions such as the United States (US), Canada, United Kingdom (UK) and Western Europe. This research utilises a positivist methodological approach in the collection and analyses of the primary data vital to achieving the aforementioned aims surrounding the adoption of eServices within Dubai. Two anonymous research instruments, online questionnaires, were distributed to potential respondents, firstly in 2005, and then a more advanced version in 2008. Both research instruments were distributed throughout Dubai via social networking sites, expatriate website groups, multi-national companies’ HR departments, Dubai Government organisations and several Emirati only and mixed nationality universities, to both faculty and students. The research instrument posed questions covering demographics, cultural exposure, Internet usage, eServices usage, enablers and inhibitors of eServices usage, eServices companies utilised, goods and services purchased and security considerations. The primary data was captured in an online database. The following statistical tests and reports were created using SPSS, frequency tables, descriptive analysis, correlation tests, F-tests, T-tests; and, ANOVA tests. Microsoft Excel was used to convert this statistical data into table and graphical form.Arising from the statistical analyses and observations made during the course of this research, a model has been designed to determine the influence of cultural exposure on the adoption of eServices within a society rapidly moving from the ‘agrarian age’ to the ‘information age’ (Reigeluth & Garfunkle, 1994). This model utilised correlations to assess whether there is a significant relationship between cultural exposure and the eCommerce and eBanking variables. Additionally, it has assessed the relationship between each of the four components of cultural exposure, these being: the region of the last educational institute studied at; the region of citizenship at birth; the region of birth; and the current region of citizenship. The cultural exposure variable was determined separately for both eBanking and eCommerce over the two data collection periods, by computing a weighted average for each component of cultural exposure. This was performed to differentiate the four factors and provide a continuous range. Additionally, t-tests were utilised to determine whether the answers to specific questions differed between those using eBanking and those not, and F-tests to determine whether those who answered Likert-scale questions had differential answers based on the Likert-scale value for each question. The individual components of cultural exposure all had strongly significant correlations with each other. With regard to the main hypotheses, every aforementioned cultural exposure variable had a significant relationship with eCommerce, with only current region of citizenship being correlated with eBanking. The study assessed the hypotheses designed to determine the relationship between cultural exposure and its four culturally related components when tested against the 2008 primary data set and its interrelationship between cultural exposure and its potential influence in the adoption of eBanking and eCommerce. With regard to the main hypotheses, every cultural exposure variable had a significant relationship with eCommerce, except for region of birth. The findings and analysis made throughout this research provide varying levels of benefits for eService organisations, governments and future researchers.eServices organisations will now have access to comprehensive statistical analyses, providing them with insight into the enablers and inhibitors of eServices within Dubai and/or an Emerging and Developing Economy that shows the same traits as Dubai. These organisations can also benefit from the analysis conducted surrounding the cultural aspects, in particular the ‘innovators’, ‘early adopters’, ‘early majority’, ‘late majority’ or ‘laggards’ (Rogers, 1995) and eServices usage patterns in Dubai. With this information, these eServices organisations can refine their existing business plans and redevelop their marketing strategies to target a particular demographic or product range.Governments who wish to transcend from either an agrarian, pre-industrial, or industrial society to the information age can use the approach and findings of this research in the evaluation of their community’s level of technology adoption. This research will also empower government sponsored academic institutes to change their current education curricula to assist their populace in making the necessary changes to their current mindset and philosophies, so that the transition to the information age is more efficiently managed (Reigeluth & Garfunkle, 1994).There has been an extensive amount literature produced in relation to technology adoption, such as the Diffusion of Technology (Rogers, 1995), Theory of Reasoned Action (Fishbein & Ajzen, 1975), Technology Acceptance Model (Davis, 1989), Technology adoption lifecycle (Brown & Venkatesh, 2003) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (Venkatesh, Morris, Davis, & Davis, 2003), to name but a few. However, previous literature focused on Emerging and Developing Economies, while informative and insightful, failed to explore all aspects of eServices and its potential within these environments. This study sought to address that omission. As such, it provides a foundation for future analysis into eServices and technology adoption within Dubai, the Middle East and, potentially, all Emerging and Developing Economies.

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to identify the factors of adoption within alternative e-payments methods, and gain a deeper understanding of the reasons to why these factors affect the consumer’s adoption. This will be conducted through empirical research, as well as looking into previous theory in order to propose a research framework that is appropriately adapted to the specific phenomenon of alternative e-payments.   Problem: The substantial growth of e-commerce, and the limitations within conventional card payment has paved way for the development of new and innovative alternative e-payment methods. Past research point towards that, there are gaps in literature, where there is a lack of qualitative studies within the field. Furthermore, Sweden is one of the nations with the highest level of innovativeness, as well as e-commerce usage making it an appropriate market to analyze.   Method and Methodology: By applying an intepretevism paradigm, this research views knowledge from a subjective viewpoint. The primary data is collected through a qualitative approach, using one-to-one semi structured interviews, in order to obtain deeper a response. The gathered data is later on analyzed and compared with the previous research within the field.   Findings: The findings of this thesis identifies the factors of adoption within alternative e-payments and why they have an affect. Certain factors seemed to be of greater importance than others, and many of the factors held similarities showing their interdependent nature. Furthermore, new factors were identified as well as the factors being highly context specific, identifying gaps that should be addressed in future research.

Nowadays, enterprises facing the global competition should directly or indirectly keep a close contact with the international market. Service quality and cost controls are becoming critical successful factors to business operations and collecting both internal and external information can help managers make better business decisions. Therefore, enterprises need a multi-functional integrated system to better control the speed in production lines, product delivery status, cash flow, and etc. to meet customers’ requirement as soon as possible. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system was known as a top solution for enterprise in the economic environment because of its benefits. In the 21st century, ERP becomes one of the required information infrastructures for big enterprises to choose their suppliers. However, a successful adoption of ERP system depends on lots of factors in technology, organizational culture and employee training. Human factors are always considered the most important factors impacting the adoption of ERP system. Due to this reason, the study tries to understand users’ behaviors when an organization adopts an ERP system. Based on the well-known Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this study will analyze drivers for users to adopt the EPR system. The case company in the empirical study is an international textile company headquartered in Taiwan. Findings in the study may help organizations in similar industries make better decisions in adopting ERP systems.

Taiwan’s five terrestrial television stations started their process of digital conversion in 1998, and all the terrestrial television stations have finished their digitalization in 2004. However, most people in Taiwan do not feel a need to have digital television, which has greatly slowed down the diffusion process of digital terrestrial television in Taiwan. This study adopted the technology acceptance model (TAM) as theoretical framework to examine the factors that influenced the adoption of digital terrestrial television in Taiwan. A telephone survey with 300 valid interviews was used to collect data for this study. The data analysis shows that most assumptions proposed by TAM were supported except that social norms did not have a significant effect on the adoption intention. More findings are discussed in this thesis.

Since Brett King proposed the concept of digital Bank 3.0. in 2012, new online banking services were created and developed by the bankers as Fin Tech has emerged. In Taiwan, the Financial Supervisory Commission R.O.C. (Taiwan) has also released a number of regulations about new financial online services in order to build a better environment for Fin Tech development. It is obvious that the time of Fin Tech has come and the traditional business mode of banking industry is changing. However, are Taiwanese people ready to change whatever they used to think about traditional banking services and to accept a new online service mode? This study intends to explore consumer behaviors and their attitudes toward the online and mobile banking services. We hope the results of this study can provide bankers with management implications and suggestions. This study used the framework of Technology Acceptance Model to investigate consumer behaviors and attitudes toward the online and mobile banking services. Different from previous research, this study examined the moderating effects of consumers’ perceived risks and subjective norm in the TAM model as well. In order to verify the research framework and hypothesis, this study used an online questionnaire instrument to collect data for analysis and 250 valid questionnaires were collected from April 27 to May 8, 2018. The results indicate that Technology Acceptance Model can explains behaviors and attitudes of Taiwanese users toward online and mobile banking services. We found that consumers’ attitudes toward online and mobile banking services significantly influence their use intentions. Additionally, what they perceive about the new technology, i.e. perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, positively influence their attitudes and use intentions. The empirical results also support the hypothesis that perceived ease of use significantly influences perceived usefulness. That is, when consumers perceive the interfaces are easy to use, they will perceive the online banking services are useful. However, the result do not support the hypotheses as to the moderating effects of perceived risks and subjective norm. Instead, we found that perceived risks and subjective norm have direct effects on their use intentions. The results show that perceived risks negatively influences use intentions while subjective norm positively influence use intentions. Based on the above empirical results, this study proposes a modified model. According to the research results, the study proposed some implications and suggestions as follow. They include increasing the ease of use and usefulness of online and mobile interfaces, trying to decrease consumers’ perceived risks on the internet and mobile banking services, influencing personal subjective norms through advertising and financial advisors, so as to increase consumers’ attitudes and intentions to use the online and mobile banking services.

This study used the technology acceptance model as the theoretical framework and examined the adoption of tablet computers and smartphones in Taiwan. Based on the literature review, this study used four variables—perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, playfulness, and social norms—as independent variables to predict the adoption of the two technologies. Seven hypotheses were developed based on the expected relationships among the four independent variables and the adoption intentions. A telephone survey using CATI system was adopted to collect data for this study and 400 valid questionnaires with a response rate of 60% were obtained. The data analysis shows that most findings were congruent with those of past studies except that this study found that perceived usefulness was not related to the adoption of the two technologies. More findings were discussed in the thesis.

ABSTRACT With the development of science and technology, the LED product with powerful functions comes into being. It can completely change the defects of general light source needed in the teaching process, but the teachers’ adoption intention of LED product are not high. The former researchers focus on the adoption intention of information technology integrating into primary school teaching. This study adopted the technology acceptance model (TAM) as theoretical framework to examine the factors that influenced the adoption intention of integrating LED into teaching of elementary schools. Based on the above research purpose, this study takes committees of elementary schools as research objects, and arranges related scale based on the literature results, and the data collected by questionnaire and purposive sampling is taken as sampling technique. Totally 221 questionnaires were sent out and 200 valid ones were retrieved. The research has discovered that (1)With diverse scale of schools, elementary school teachers’ adoption intention of LED product is not significantly different, but elementary school teachers who have more application experience of LED product more likely to integrate LED into teaching of elementary schools; (2) The basic hypothesis proposed by TAM were supported except that LED characteristic has no significant effect on the perceived easy using, and we guess that it is related to the LED products’ relative advantage, compatibility and complexity. (3)The external variables have significant effect on internal beliefs except that LED characteristic has no significant effect on the perceived easy using, and organizational factors have the most powerful effect on perceived easy using and perceived usefulness. Key words: Technology Acceptance Model, LED, Perceived Easy Using, Perceived Usefulness, Adoption Intention.

According the definition from The Silk Association: Technical textiles can be divided into functional clothing and industrial textiles, The characteristics of functional clothing, Some functional effects cannot be appear immediately, The Technology Acceptance Model of cognition and cognitive by easy and useful mode, the acceptance of behavior of high-tech products have a good explanatory power for seniors for the prospective use of functional clothing behavior. Based on the literatures of the external variables has been assumed the risk perception of beauty and appearance, and the Technology Acceptance Model 2's subjective norms to influence intention to use the three main reason. This study confirmed that perceived risk and intended use are negatively correlated with subjective norm, and the aesthetic appearance are positively correlated with intention, broadly in line with the hypotheses, especially through the use and usefulness of knowledge is more significant mediating effect of cognition. Most of the Taiwanese equip their own cell phones for mobile communication. According to the report by Gartner, more than 428 millions cell phones globally were sold in the second quarter of 2011, growing 16.5% comparing to the sales in the previous quarter. It is worth noting that 25% of the total cell phone sale is contributed by the sales of smartphones. Compared to the sales conventional cell phones, there is still plenty rooms for the smartphones to grow. In practice, people purchase the innovative smartphones may mix with rational considerations such as usefulness and ease of use and irrational behavior like propensity towards conformity. To explore the rational and irrational antecedents of intention to adopt smartphones, an integrated model is proposed. Specifically, the factors of perceived usefulness and ease of use from adoption theories, and informational influence and normative influence from conformity prospective were adopted to develop the proposed model. The data from the survey was analyzed using structural equation modeling. The analytical results show that all proposed factors have significantly influence on users in making decisions of purchasing smartphones. Meanwhile, non-experienced users would be more likely influenced by other smartphones users in adoption of smartphones. However, experienced users would be more likely to adopt smartphones based on the information collected previously. Thus, experienced users clearly know what they needs in smartphones; and thus, they would search related smartphone information and purchase an appropriate one after their assessment of innovative information.

The rapid shift in technology regarding mobile phone and wireless internet coverage has led to the growth of mobile commerce transaction worldwide. This phenomenon is raising awareness among business players who want to jump into the mobile commerce platform. Therefore, the insight on how the consumer will adapt and move to the mobile platform is essential to expand the market, especially on colossal consumer base like Indonesia. This study provides several hypotheses to identify the factors that contribute to influence the consumer behavior intention to use mobile commerce system by adapting the integration of Technology Acceptance Model and Theory of Planned Behavior. The researched factors consist of attitude, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, and trust. According to the collected data from 384 qualified respondents through an online questionnaire, the result shows that the consumer behavioral intention is dominantly affected by users' attitude and then followed by subjective norm and perceived behavioral control. There is no evidence for the direct effect from PU to BI. However, PU has an indirect effect on BI through the attitude. The attitude itself is getting direct influence from trust and perceived usefulness, also an indirect effect from the perceived ease of use through PU. Hopefully, this thesis could provide help for the mobile commerce business and stimulate further research to understand the Indonesian consumer behavior in mobile commerce market better.

Virtual reality is a promising technology with the potential to disrupt the football industry since fans are seeking new ways of getting a home-watching experience closer to the real experience. This study tests the concept of a new virtual reality football experience by means of using the extended technology acceptance model to determine the factors that lead to the adoption of virtual reality equipment. The virtual reality experience is intended to simulate the real experience of attending the stadium in a matchday. Data was collected and 203 valid responses were obtained. The results were analysed using structural equation modelling, which allowed predicting purchase and use intentions. Findings suggest that perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment and attitudes are strong predictors of the outcomes. Moreover, the results support the potential of virtual reality and its integration in sports. This study paves the way to further research on this matter and provides several insights and recommendations for sports organisations about whether offering the experience is viable or not and possible approaches to different segments of the Portuguese football fandom.

This thesis explores use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on Tasmanian family owned dairy farms using a qualitative case study approach. This research presents findings that contribute to an improved understanding of the social and technological factors influencing ICT use by Tasmanian dairy family farm businesses. The findings are discussed in relation to the Information Systems model TAM3 (Venkatesh and Bala, 2008) and an adapted model developed by the researcher. ICT uptake in agriculture is continuing to be less than expected worldwide (Gelb and Voet, 2009; Alvarez and Nuthall, 2006; McBratney et al., 2005; Lamb et al., 2008). A key driver in improving farm performance is the provision and adoption of more efficient technologies and management practices (DAFF, 2005). Better understanding of human factors in the adoption of research in the agriculture and food industries is important to ensure intended research and development outcomes are achieved (DAFF, 2007). The main impediments to ICT adoption include lack of tailored ICT applications, their increased sophistication, which imposes enhanced human capital requirements, their lack of synchronisation with production, and the need for ongoing end-user training (Gelb and Voet, 2009; Alvarez and Nuthall, 2006). The factors identified as being associated with on-farm computer adoption include business size, education and age for example younger and better educated farmers are more likely to adopt ICT applications (Alvarez and Nuthall, 2006). This thesis builds on the extensive literature base of cross disciplinary research on adoption and innovation that has been developed over the past 50 years (Rogers, 2003; Rogers, 1983; Ruttan, 1996; Pannell et al., 2006; Venkatesh and Bala, 2008) by undertaking an in depth qualitative examination of the utilisation of ICT by dairy family farm businesses in Tasmania, taking a whole farm holistic approach. This research methodology employed a qualitative approach that was underpinned by a subjective ontology and an interpretative epistemology. The research strategy consisted of a case study using 33 individual farmers to acquire a rich data source from a broad range of farmers located in Tasmania, and six industry representatives servicing Tasmania. Thirty three interviews were conducted with owners of family farm businesses and appropriate industries using semi structured in depth interviews. The questions were designed to gather the farmers’ opinions, experiences and how they used ICT for business and personal use, the impacts and problems associated with the use of ICT and background information about their business. Six industry interviews were conducted to provide an alternative lens in recognition that external factors, some of which farmers may not be aware of, are important, providing an alternative perspective for the research. The farmer and the industry interviews were analysed separately using the same data analysis technique. This approach ensured any new industry insights in the Tasmanian dairy industry were revealed. The data collected was analysed systematically using thematic coding. The data was interpreted and discussed based on the researcher’s understanding of the data and in relation to the available literature to allow for the key findings to emerge. The key findings for the research are as follows: • KF1 All generations of farmers are receptive or using smart technology due to ease of use characteristics; • KF2 Farmers place a high priority on lifestyle and family when making ICT decisions; • KF3 Fragmented ICT investment is detrimental to long term ICT utilisation; • KF4 Globalisation of ICT use changes farming communities and farming practices; • KF5 Industry has a key role to play in farmer focused education on robotic systems. The key findings lead to the redevelopment of TAM3, placing significance on ease of use, and incorporating a complexity component to better explain the relationship between intention to use and actual use. This research has made contributions to Information Systems knowledge at substantive, methodological and theoretical levels. At a substantive level, it has provided a case study of ICT use by Tasmanian dairy farmers and relevant industries, contributing to the understanding of factors influencing the use of ICT on everyday activities around the farm. This contributed to the understanding of lifestyle motivators, and the positive effect smart technology has had on ICT utilisation. At a methodological level this research has made a contribution by conducting a qualitative study of farmers’ ICT use to provide in depth understanding of the traditionally quantitatively researched field. At a theoretical level, the research has developed a revised TAM model that improves the explanation of the relationship between intention to use and actual use of ICT.

Digital payment methods (DPMs) are evolving fast but they are yet to be widely adopted particularly in the developing countries. An initial review of literature suggests that several studies have already been conducted on this topic for understanding antecedents of digital payments adoption. However, only a few studies have examined this emerging topic in the context of developing countries. The aim of this submission is to identify antecedents of consumer adoption and usage of digital payments methods. The results of this literature analysis suggest that constructs related to technology acceptance model (TAM) and unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) along with trust and risk are the most frequently examined constructs for determining consumer’s behavioural intention to use and usage of DPMs. The findings from this work can help researchers selecting factors for inclusion in the future empirical works on this topic.

The advancement of technology, particularly in the area of mobile computing, revolutionizes the way business is done in many industries such as the education sector, government sector, financial institutions, retail sector and the way people conduct their daily activities. The current technology provides influential tools for organisations and can significantly influence their operation, structure and approach. The development of mobile computing has created a new innovation for various industries by increasing the availability, frequency and speed of communication between the organisations and the individuals. However, users’ perceptions can play an important role towards the adoption of these new developments. The overriding purpose of this study was to investigate the users’ perceptions on the security of mobile computing in South Africa for adoption of e-applications. The literature review was concentrated on the process of progressive development occurring during the study. To accomplish that goal it became necessary to reach some essential objectives i.e. investigating the users’ perceptions models in literature. For the purpose of the study, it was important to propose a research framework for users’ perceptions on the security of mobile computing with the potential for the adoption of e-applications in South Africa. The research evaluated the proposed framework to establish if there is any relationship between the e-application adoption factors. Furthermore, the hypotheses were tested to determine which factors would influence the adoption of e-applications in South Africa. Technology Adoption Model 2 (TAM2) and Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) provide the theoretical basis for explaining how users perceive e-application services that they access and operate through mobile computing. To achieve that, a quantitative study was conducted with South African residents, with respect to mobile security perceptions; 476 valid questionnaires were received from the participants who were selected non-randomly. Questionnaires were developed from the proposed research framework derived from DOI and TAM2 and the items were adopted from other prior technology adoption studies. Through the use of the survey instrument developed for this study, data were collected in order to address the importance of this study based on the problem statement posed in the first chapter of this dissertation. The valid questionnaires were analysed by using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), Version 24.0. Reliability analysis, principal component analysis, correlations and multiple linear regression tests were conducted. Among other things this study made sure that ethical considerations are adhered to. The findings revealed positive relationships between perceived usefulness of security mechanisms, perceived ease of use of security mechanisms, subjective norm on security mechanisms, relative advantage of security mechanisms, compatibility of security mechanisms, complexity of security mechanisms, aesthetics of security mechanisms interface and intention to adopt e-applications. Furthermore, subjective norm on security mechanisms was strongly correlated to intention to adopt e-applications, complexity of security mechanisms strongly correlated to perceived usefulness of security mechanisms, relative advantage of security mechanisms and aesthetic of security mechanisms interface strongly correlated to perceived usefulness of security mechanisms. In addition, subjective norm of security mechanisms strongly influence intention to adopt eapplications in South Africa. Also, aesthetics of security mechanisms interface strongly influence both perceived usefulness of security mechanisms and perceived ease of use of security mechanisms. The reason behind it may be interpreted as users nowadays seeing the beauty as the platform to attract and encourage them to use e-applications. Finally, the proposed model analysis and survey evaluation will enable South African organizations to make informed decisions about the use of e-applications services. These findings contribute to a road map for the education sector, government sector, financial institutions, and retail sector as well as to encourage their customers or clients to adopt e-applications.
