Introduction. An ideal endodontic sealer should adhere firmly both to dentin and to gutta-percha. Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the adhesion of the root canal filling to dentin and gutta-percha using scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Methods. The sealing ability of endodontic sealers to dentinal walls of the root canal was assessed in recently extracted human single canal premolars. Twenty teeth were prepared using the crown-down technique and irrigated with 3% NaOCl. A total of 20 samples were divided into two groups. The root canals were obturated using Ketac-Endo Aplicap and GutaFlow. The sealing ability and adhesion properties at the sealer-dentin interface were studied using SEM and the results were rated from 1 to 3; extremely good adhesion (rated 1), good adhesion (rated 2) and a relatively good adhesion (rated 3). Results. The results showed extremely good adhesion on Ketac-Endo and GuttaFlow dentin interface. GuttaFlow has strong adhesion (rated 1) to gutta-percha in comparison with Ketac-Endo to gutta-percha interface (rated 2). Conclusion. New GuttaFlow filling material has a strong sealing ability and excellent adhesion to dentinal walls and gutta-percha cones. Ketac-Endo showed excellent bond to dentin with a slightly weaker adhesion capacity to the gutta-percha cones in comparison to GuttaFlow.

PurposeThis study aimed to test Early and Ang’s (2003) proposition that self-enhancement hinders successful cross-cultural adjustment. The literature on self-enhancement is reviewed, and the overclaiming technique as an unobtrusive measure of self-enhancement is introduced for use in global mobility contexts.Design/methodology/approachUsing the overclaiming technique, an international-cultural overclaiming test was developed. Expatriates in Singapore stated their familiarity with international-cultural knowledge items, with some of them being foil items, and rated their cross-cultural (general, interaction, work) adjustment. Supervisors rated the expatriates on their work adjustment and performance.FindingsOverclaiming was not related to self-rated cross-cultural adjustment. However, overclaiming was negatively related to supervisor rated work adjustment and performance. Additionally, the results showed that international-cultural knowledge accuracy was positively related to self-rated general adjustment and to supervisor rated work adjustment and performance.Research limitations/implicationsThe small sample size with a majority of expatriate teachers from international schools in the sample makes it necessary for the results to be replicated with larger and more varied expatriate samples.Practical implicationsWhile further validation is needed, this research indicates that the overclaiming technique could be a valuable tool for assessing self-enhancement in candidates for expatriate positions in order to gauge potential cross-cultural (mal)adjustment, as perceived by others.Originality/valueThis study was (likely) the first study that has applied the overclaiming technique in a global mobility context. An international-cultural knowledge overclaiming test is provided to academic researchers for future use.

Abstract Seven studies were conducted in dryland corn in Nunda, S. Dak., using standard recommended and reduced rates of commonly used granular insecticides. The experimental design for all studies was a randomized complete block with 4 replications. Individual treatment plots consisted of single rows, 15 m long, with 96.5 cm row spacing. Granular formulations of insecticides were applied with modified Noble metering units mounted on a specially adapted Kinze, 4-row corn planter. The metering units were grounddriven, and all units were calibrated on the planter. Insecticide granules were applied in a 7-inch band in front of the furrow-closing wheels and incorporated by the wheels and drag chains. Furrow applications were directed immediately between the double disk furrow openers. Pioneer 3615 corn was seeded at a rate of 23,000 kernels/acre at all study locations. Five roots/replication were dug from each treatment. Roots were washed, examined for rootworm feeding damage, and rated in accordance to the Iowa 1-6 scale.

Background and Objectives: Experts in medical education hypothesize that programs with a robust culture of feedback foster learning and growth for learners and educators, yet the literature shows no consensus for what defines a feedback culture in graduate medical education. Methods: Using a two-round, modified Delphi technique in summer and fall of 2019, the authors asked a panel of experts to identify essential elements to a feedback culture. The research team compiled a list of experts and a list of 29 descriptors of a highly functioning feedback culture. Experts rated the items as an essential, compatible, or not important aspect of a highly functioning culture of feedback. Researchers set a minimum threshold of 80% agreement and used comments from panelists to revise elements that did not meet agreement during round one. Experts then rerated the elements using information on their initial ratings, aggregate panelist ratings, and comments from all panelists. Results: The response rates from our panel of experts were 68% (17/25) for round one and 88% (15/17) for round two. Seventeen elements were rated as essential to a feedback culture. Conclusions: An expert panel endorsed essential elements that can be used to assess feedback culture in graduate medical education programs.

Adult piano students (N = 711) from 24 states across the U.S. rated the existence and importance of 31 potential benefits of adult piano study. Benefits selected from existing adult music and leisure-benefit research were organized into three categories: Personal, Skill, and Social/Cultural. The category of Skill Benefits was the most-agreed-upon and highest-rated category. Personal Benefits were also rated highly, particularly benefits related to Self-Actualization and Fun/Enjoyment. Social/Cul tural Benefits were the least-agreed-upon and rated as the least important benefits. The most-ag-reed-upon benefits were Skill Improvement, Musical Knowledge, Musicianship, Accomplishment, Skill Refinement, Technique, and Play/Fun. The highest-rated benefits, in order of importance, were Dream Fulfilled, Technique, Accomplishment, Escape from Routine, Skill Improvement, Musicianship, Musical Knowledge, Play/Fun, Skill Refinement, and Personal Growth. Findings suggest that students are interested in technical improvement, but they also place high value on the enjoyment and self grozuth that piano study provides.

Many online shopping malls have implemented personalized recommendation systems to improve customer retention in the age of high competition and information overload. Sellers make use of these recommendation systems to survive high competition and buyers utilize them to find proper product information for their own needs. However, transaction data of most online shopping malls prevent us from using collaborative filtering (CF) technique to recommend products, for the following two reasons: 1) explicit rating information is rarely available in the transaction data; 2) the sparsity problem usually occurs in the data, which makes it difficult to identify reliable neighbors, resulting in less effective recommendations. Therefore, this paper first suggests a means to derive implicit rating information from the transaction data of an online shopping mall and then proposes a new user similarity function to mitigate the sparsity problem. The new user similarity function computes the user similarity of two users if they rated similar items, while the user similarity function of traditional CF technique computes it only if they rated common items. Results from several experiments using an online shopping mall dataset in Korea demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms the traditional CF technique.

ObjectivesThe assessment of situation awareness (SA), team performance and task performance in a simulation training session requires reliable and feasible measurement techniques. The objectives of this study were to test the Airways–Breathing–Circulation–Disability–Exposure (ABCDE) checklist and the Team Emergency Assessment Measure (TEAM) for inter-rater reliability, as well as the application of Situation Awareness Global Assessment Technique (SAGAT) for feasibility and internal consistency.DesignMethodological approach.SettingData collection during team training using full-scale simulation at a university clinical training centre. The video-recorded scenarios were rated independently by four raters.Participants55 medical students aged 22–40 years in their fourth year of medical studies, during the clerkship in anaesthesiology and critical care medicine, formed 23 different teams. All students answered the SAGAT questionnaires, and of these students, 24 answered the follow-up postsimulation questionnaire (PSQ). TEAM and ABCDE were scored by four professionals.MeasuresThe ABCDE and TEAM were tested for inter-rater reliability. The feasibility of SAGAT was tested using PSQ. SAGAT was tested for internal consistency both at an individual level (SAGAT) and a team level (Team Situation Awareness Global Assessment Technique (TSAGAT)).ResultsThe intraclass correlation was 0.54/0.83 (single/average measurements) for TEAM and 0.55/0.83 for ABCDE. According to the PSQ, the items in SAGAT were rated as relevant to the scenario by 96% of the participants. Cronbach’s alpha for SAGAT/TSAGAT for the two scenarios was 0.80/0.83 vs 0.62/0.76, and normed χ² was 1.72 vs 1.62.ConclusionTask performance, team performance and SA could be purposefully measured, and the reliability of the measurements was good.

This study was done to ascertain ball preferences of ten-year-old children and to assess whether their preferences were related to their skill in shooting, score attained, or some other factor. 77 children recruited from a rural community and also from the National Youth Sports Program volunteered to participate. Subjects were videotaped as they shot five free throws using in random order a men's, a women's, and a junior standard basketball. A shooting score and a technique score were recorded. Children preferred a ball smaller than the one they normally used; prior experience with a basketball did not seem to influence point scoring. Most subjects were unable to use technically correct mechanics to shoot free throws. There may be considerable improvement in children's shooting technique if instruction is given and a junior size basketball used.

To report on the attitudes and behaviours of junior rugby union coaches towards coaching of proper contact technique in thetackle.Methods. Seven coaches of the top 8 rugby-playing schools (Premier Division) in the Western Province Rugby Union participated in thestudy (representing 88% of the entire population of top-level junior coaches in the region). Coaches completed a questionnaire, modelledon previous research, surveying attitudes and behaviours towards tackling.Results. Proper technique for injury prevention was rated as very important (57%) and important (29%), with 14% undecided. Propertechnique to improve performance was rated as very important (57%) and important (43%). To further develop coaching knowledgeand to develop new training methods, ‘coaching colleagues’ (very much – 71%; mean rating 4.7; 95% CI 4.3 - 5.2) was rated as the mostoften used.Conclusion. Collectively, the coaches in this study demonstrated a positive attitude towards injury prevention and performance. Additionalmeans of communicating information to coaches, other than the traditional channels, have also been highlighted here.

This paper concerns the efficacy of meditation and relaxation in promoting self-actualization and changes in self-reported stress among 62 college students. Two groups were given mantra meditation and a yogic relaxation technique referred to as Shavasana. Pre- and posttest measures were taken on the Personal Orientation Inventory and the Behavioral Relaxation Scale. Both groups showed significant increases in scores on self-actualization; however, no differences were found between groups. Meditation training was associated with larger gains in scores on measures of systematic relaxed behavior than of the relaxation training.

Objective: To present the clinical and functional results of surgical treatment of patients with chronic instability of the ankle using the arthroscopic Brostrom technique. Methods: This is a case series of patients who underwent surgical treatment for chronic instability of the lateral ligament of the ankle using the arthroscopic Brostrom technique. Clinical assessments of ankle stability were performed preoperatively and at the last follow-up using the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Score (AOFAS), a visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, and the anterior drawer and talar inversion tilt tests. Surgical complications and patient satisfaction ratings were also analyzed. Results: A total of 16 patients were analyzed, with a mean follow-up of 14 months. There was a statistically significant (p<0.001) improvement in mean AOFAS, which increased from 67.2 to 90.8 points and the mean VAS for pain score reduced from 6.5 to 1.5 points. All ankles were stable and had normal results for the anterior drawer test and the talar inversion tilt test. Three patients (19%) reported that resumption of sporting activities provoked subjective pain in the ankle, which improved progressively during follow-up. Two patients (12.5%) exhibited neurapraxia of the superficial peroneal nerve. A majority of the patients (81%) rated treatment as good or excellent. Conclusion: Treatment of chronic instability of the ankle ligament using the arthroscopic Brostrom technique restored ankle stability and achieved good clinical results. There was a high rate of early complications, but the majority were transitory and underwent complete remission during follow-up. Level of Evidence IV; Therapeutic Studies; Case Series.

This paper introduces an ultra-precision linear motor positioning technique. In order to realize a compact positioning movement without dual structure consisting coarse and fine positionings, higher accuracy air slider studies are conducted on a completely frictionless support mechanism using a linear motor and an externally pressurized air bearing. Results are as follows: (1) Temperature rise of 03°C, table displacement of 0.16μm and guide warp of 0.03μm are achieved by slider guide with adiabatic structure. (2) To reduce cogging force and normal force, coreless and slotless motor is developed. Thrust ripple has reduced to less than 2 % of the rated thrust. (3) Maximum pulse velocity of 10 Mpps, acceleration of 3M/S2, 0.2 sec for 15mm stroke are achieved. (4) Software servo system using DSP is adopted, positioning accuracy of 10nm are achieved without fine positioning.

Abstract BACKGROUND C1 pedicle screw insertion is not easy, and more fluoroscopy can be required for safe insertion. Fluoroscopy is time consuming and increases patient radiation exposure. There have been no studies comparing the accuracy of C1 pedicle screw insertion using the fluoroscopy and free-hand techniques. OBJECTIVE To describe a free-hand C1 pedicle screw insertion method in patients with the posterior arch thickness of less than 4 mm in the thinnest part of the groove, and to compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of C1 pedicle screw insertion using fluoroscopy vs using the free-hand technique. METHODS A total of 25 patients who had atlantoaxial instability with a C1 posterior arch <4 mm and were treated with C1 pedicle screw insertion were included. In 10 patients, fluoroscopy was used for C1 pedicle screw insertion, and 15 patients underwent the free-hand technique. We compared the radiologic and clinical outcomes between the 2 groups. RESULTS In patients who underwent the free-hand technique, 96.5% of screws were rated as safe (grade A or B), and 80.0% of screws in the fluoroscopy group were rated as safe. Postoperative occipital neuralgia occurred in one patient in the fluoroscopy group and did not occur in the free-hand technique group. There was no significant difference in the improvement of Nurick grade between the 2 groups. CONCLUSION C1 pedicle screw insertion using the free-hand technique is feasible and safe in patients with a C1 posterior arch <4 mm.

We investigated 563 German–English nouns for the purposes of identifying cognates, false cognates and non-cognates. Two techniques for identifying cognates were used and compared: (i) De Groot and Nas's (1991) similarity-rating technique and (ii) a translation-elicitation task similar to that of Kroll and Stewart (1994). The results obtained with English-speaking participants produced 112 cognates, 94 false cognates, and 357 non cognates and indicated that the two techniques yielded similar findings. Rated similarity of German–English translation pairs and translation accuracy were positively correlated. We also investigated whether the presence of German-specific characters and the availability of German pronunciation information influenced similarity ratings and translation accuracy. Ratings for translation pairs in which the German word contained a language-specific character were lower and the word was translated less accurately. Participants provided with pronunciation information rated German–English translation pairs as being more similar and translated German words correctly more often than participants who did not receive pronunciation information. We also report the relationships among word frequency, rated imageability and the performance measures. The resulting database of information is intended to be a resource for researchers interested in cognitive processing in German–English bilinguals.

INTRODUCTION The introduction of minimally invasive techniques for hip replacement into clinical practice has been driven by the perceived benefits of smaller incisions, shorter in-patient stays and faster rehabilitation. This may be at the cost of higher complication rates. The purpose of this study was to explore the opinions and priorities of patients in relation to these techniques. PATIENTS AND METHODS A cross-sectional survey was performed in an elective out-patient setting. RESULTS Of 44 patients approached, 36 agreed to participate. From most important to least important, patients rated the following items in order: ‘rate of complications’; ‘implant survival’; ‘length of rehabilitation’; ‘time in hospital’ and ‘length of scar’. Despite this, 21 of 35 (60%) responders stated they would accept the offer of minimally invasive techniques if made. CONCLUSIONS Patients appear to prioritise long-term outcomes and low complication rates over the shorter scars, reduced in-patient stay and reduced rehabilitation times potentially offered by minimally invasive hip arthroplasty. Despite this, the technique remains popular among patients.

This study aimed to examine the moderating effect of innovativeness on the relationship between Top Management Team Shared Responsibility (TMT) and non-financial performance of star-rated hotels in Uganda. A positivism research philosophy and an explanatory research design with a cross-sectional approach were adopted, while a multi-stage sampling technique; stratified and simple random techniques was used to collect quantitative data using self-administered questionnaires to a sample of 265 managers from 53 star-rated hotels. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were analyzed and a hierarchical regression model was used to test the set hypotheses. Results indicate a positive, significant relationship between TMT Shared Responsibility and non-financial performance. Innovativeness as a predictor of non-financial performance and also exerts a moderating effect on TMT Shared Responsibility and Non-financial performance of star-rated hotels in Uganda. Based on the findings the study concludes that under high level of innovation, TMT Shared Responsibility highly imprives non-financial performance of star rated hotels. Thus, hospitality management should create a conducive environment for innovativeness through research and development, rewarding creative ideas and responding to changes in the hospitality environment as these enhance performance. Background: the choice of treatment of chronic grade III acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocation is controversial. Several surgical techniques have been described in the literature, responding differently to nonoperative treatment. The aim of this study is to describe a modified technique of stabilizing an AC joint dislocation with the new Infinity-Lock Button System, in order to demonstrate that it is effective in optimizing outcomes and decreasing complications. Methods: this is a retrospective study of 15 patients who underwent surgical stabilization of the AC joint dislocation between 2018 and 2019, through modified surgical technique using the Infinity-Lock Button System. Active range of motion (ROM), Specific Acromio Clavicular Score (SACS) and Constant Score (CS) were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively at last 18 months follow up. Patients rated their outcomes as very good, good, satisfactory, or unsatisfactory. Results: a total of twelve patients rated their outcome as very good and three as good; no patients were dissatisfied with surgery. The mean Constant Score increased from 38 points preoperatively to 95 postoperatively, the average SACS score decreased from 52 points preoperatively to 10 postoperatively, both significantly. No complications were detected. Conclusion: the described technique is effective for treatment of chronic grade III AC joint dislocation, resulting in elevated satisfaction ratings and predictable outcomes. Nevertheless, further longer term follow-up studies are required.

The purpose of this study was to measure the reliability, sensitivity and validity of two types of field study measures: subjective rating techniques and self-assessment scales. Eight listeners with hearing loss served as subjects. In a laboratory study two Frequency-Gain-Characteristics (FGCs) were selected; one which subjects rated as having better speech clarity and one which subjects rated as having poorer speech clarity. The clarity ratings for the two FGCs were the criterion measure to which the results of the field studies were compared. Subjects wore each of the two FGCs in the real world for six, one-week time periods. During each week subjects completed either category ratings or paired comparisons. Two self-assessment scales were also completed. The paired comparison technique was the field study measure with the best psychometric characteristics.

The need for kidneys for transplantation continues to far surpass the number of donors. Although studies have shown that most people are aware of and support the idea of living donation, it remains unclear what motivates individuals who are aware, knowledgeable, and in support of donation to actually donate, or conversely, what deters them from donating. Utilizing nominal group technique, 30 individuals participated in 4 groups in which they brainstormed factors that would impact willingness to be a living donor and voted on which factors they deemed most important. Responses were analyzed and categorized into themes. Factors that influence the donation decision, from most to least important as rated by participants, were altruism, relationship to recipient, knowledge, personal risk/impact, convenience/access, cost, support, personal benefit, and religion. Participants reported a significant lack of information about donation as well as lack of knowledge about where and how to obtain information that would motivate them to donate or help make the decision to donate. Findings suggest that public campaign efforts seeking to increase rates of living donation should appeal to altruism and increase knowledge about the impact (or lack thereof) of donation on lifestyle factors and future health, and transplant programs should aim to maximize convenience and minimize donor burden. Future research should examine whether tailoring public campaigns to address factors perceived as most salient by potential donors reduces the significant gap in supply of and demand for kidneys.

Introduction. Modifying health behaviors is an important element of the prevention and conservative treatment of urinary incontinence. Aim. The aim of the study is to analyze the health behavior of women with urinary incontinence. Material and methods. The study involved 100 patients with urinary incontinence. The diagnostic survey method and the estimation method, the survey technique, the estimation scale technique and the Inventory of Health Behavior questionnaire were used. Results. Women with urinary incontinence rated their health behaviors the highest in the following categories: preventive behaviors, correct eating habits and a positive mental attitude. The respondents rated their health practices the lowest. Conclusions. The health behavior of women with urinary incontinence is interpreted as average.

Modeling of electromagnetic quantities (magnetic flux, leakage flux, eddy current loss, and electromagnetic force) in distributed power transformers remarkably plays an essential role for researchers and designers in the calculation and production of electrical equipment in general and transformer designs in particular. In the frame of this research, the distribution of magnetic flux densities along the tank wall and cover plate, the leakage flux in air regions, and the forces for both rated and short circuit modes in the windings of the transformer are computed/simulated via a 3-D numerical method. The method is herein developed with magnetic vector potential formulations and is applied to a practical application of the distributed transformer (630kVA-22/0,4kV).

The study used the resource dependency theory to determine the strategic orientation that star-rated hotels in Ghana should adopt to realize both financial and non- financial performance. Out of a population of 680 star-rated hotel managers, a sample of 248 were chosen, using the stratified random sampling technique. Self- administered questionnaires were used to solicit the views of managers of the selected star-rated hotels. In all, a total of 178 responses were retrieved and analysed, using descriptive and partial least squares in structural equation modeling. Findings of the study indicate that none of the strategic orientation types influenced financial performance. However, aggressiveness, analytic, defensiveness, futuristic and riskiness were found to rather influence non-financial performance of star-rated hotels. The study, therefore, confirms the resource dependency theory and concludes that when star-rated hotels tend to be aggressive, analytic, futuristic and risky, it influences non-financial performance. The study, therefore, recommends that managers of star-rated hotels use analytic, defensiveness, futuristic and riskiness strategic orientation to enhance non-financial performance.

Objectives: (1) To evaluate dental arch relationships, with the Great Ormond Street, London and Oslo (GOSLON) Yardstick, of participants with Unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) and treated with 1-stage palatal closure with 3 different surgical protocols (2) to compare the mean GOSLON ratings with other CLP centers. Design: Retrospective study of medical charts and dental models. Setting: Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. Participants: Eighty-seven patients with UCLP operated with 1-stage palatal repair. Thirty-five were operated with Veau-Wardill-Kilner (VWK) technique 1975 to 1986, 31 with minimal incision technique (MIT) from 1987 to 1997, and 21 according to MIT with muscle reconstruction (MITmr) 1998 to 2004. Interventions: Dental casts at ages 5 (n = 87), 7 to 8 (n = 27), 10 (n = 81), 16 (n = 61), and 19 (n = 35) years were rated by 10 assessors with the GOSLON Yardstick. Information of other interventions was retrieved from patients’ charts. Main outcome measures: Mean GOSLON ratings. Results: A total of 82% of the participants were rated as having excellent to satisfactory outcome. Weighted κ statistics for the 10 assessors was good for inter-rater agreement and good/very good for intra-rater agreement. Conclusions: The mean GOSLON score in the Stockholm overall material at age 10 was 2.67. The VWK technique resulted in a greater need of orthognathic surgery than the MIT ( P < .01). The MITmr did not produce better dental arch relationships than MIT at age 5 ( P < .05). The best dental arch relationships were found in the MIT group at 10 years, mean 2.58, which is not significantly different from other centers with excellent outcome except Gothenburg and Vienna.

Objectives: A number of surgical techniques for managing tennis elbow have been described, one of the commonest (Nirschl & Pettrone. J Bone Joint Surg Am, 61(6A): 832-839) involves excising the affected portion of extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) origin. The results of this technique, as well as most other described surgical techniques for this condition, have been reported as excellent, yet none have been compared with placebo surgery. Methods: This study was a prospective, randomised, double blinded, placebo controlled clinical trial investigating the surgical excision of the macroscopically degenerated portion of ECRB (Nirschl technique; n=13) compared with a sham operation (skin incision and exposure of ECRB alone; n=13) to manage tennis elbow, in patients with tennis elbow for more than 6 months who failed at least two non-surgical modalities. The primary outcome measure was defined as patient rated frequency of elbow pain with activity at 6 months post-surgery. Secondary outcome measures included patient rated frequency and severity of pain, functional outcomes, range of motion, epicondyle tenderness and strength at 6 months and >12 months post-surgery. Results: The two groups were matched for age, gender, hand dominance and duration of symptoms. Both the surgery and placebo procedures improved patient rated pain frequency and severity, elbow stiffness, difficulty with picking up objects, twisting motions and overall elbow rating over 6 months and at >12 months (p<0.01). Both procedures also improved epicondyle tenderness, pronation-supination range, grip strength and modified ORI-TETS at 6 months (p<0.05). No significant difference was observed between the groups in any parameter at any stage. No side effects or complications were reported. The study was stopped before the calculated number of patients were enrolled, as a post-hoc analysis showed over 6500 patients would need to be recruited in each group to see a significant difference between the groups at 26 weeks, when measuring patient rated frequency of elbow pain with activity. Conclusion: This study indicates that the surgical excision of the degenerative portion of ECRB offers no additional benefit over and above placebo surgery for the management of chronic tennis elbow. BackgroundUrinary tract infection requires collection of a sterile urine specimen for diagnosis, which is difficult and time consuming in pre-continent children. This systematic review summarises evidence of the effectiveness of bladder stimulation techniques on urine collection in pre-continent children, compared with standard techniques.MethodsMEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE and CINAHL were searched to May 2019. Selection, data extraction, risk of bias and quality assessment were undertaken by two independent reviewers. Inclusion: (1) all study designs; (2) pre-continent, age <3 years receiving bladder stimulation techniques; (3) outcomes including time to urine collection or contamination rates; (4) English-language articles. Exclusion: coexisting neurological disorders.ResultsThree randomised controlled trials (RCTs) were identified using three techniques in 568 participants aged 1 day to 35 months. Two RCTs demonstrated an increased success in voiding within 5 min, one using a finger tapping and lumbar paravertebral massage technique and the other cold saline-soaked gauze rubbed over the suprapubic region, compared with no active intervention. A third RCT using a mechanical vibration device demonstrated no difference in time to voiding from advice alone. Non-randomised studies compared different temperatures for the gauze intervention and tapping alone versus urine bags. Six uncontrolled studies tested the finger tapping and massage technique. Risk of bias was low for one RCT and unclear for two RCTs with the other studies rated poor to fair quality. Overall, the evidence on success rates was graded low for tapping plus massage and moderate for the gauze rubbing intervention. Adverse effects included crying and mild distress.DiscussionThe results suggest a positive effect of stimulation techniquesbut lack of replication in rigorous RCTs and heterogeneity of techniques and outcomes assessed prevent conclusive recommendations being made. Further RCTs are required comparing non-invasive stimulation methods and assessing time to successful collection, contamination rates, adverse effects, caregiver and clinical staff acceptability.

The existing design techniques for the conductive parts of the main circuit of electromagnetic contactors are based on two assumptions: the infinite length of the conductor and the absence of its heating, which is determined by the contact resistance. This can lead to significant errors in the design of conductors of finite length, primarily in the design of conductive parts with contact bridges, which contain almost all modern electromagnetic contactors. For a more efficient determination of the geometric parameters of the conductive parts, it is proposed to use an improved technique without the above assumptions. The technique uses a model of a contact formed by overlapping the ends of two rectangular conductors and containing a contact piece as a design one. A key feature of the technique is the use in the calculations of the temperature distribution constant along the length of the conductor, introduced for the first time, which determines the nature of the change in its heating temperature. The main stages of calculation and an example of determining the geometric dimensions of the conductive parts by this method for ABB contactors for different rated currents are given.

This paper presents a blood pump with a bearingless brushless DC motor, supported by speed, torque, and suspension force controllers. Simulation of the pump motor and its controllers tested by MATLAB/Simulink. Two Proportional plus Integral (PI) controllers are employed for controlling the rotational speed and torque of the motor. For controlling the suspension force a comparative study is presented between the Proportional plus Integral plus Derivative (PID) controller and two inputs PID-like Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC). A particle swarm optimization technique is used to find the best values for the controller’s parameters. The results of the speed and torque controllers exhibit a good time response to reach the desired speed with a short period of time and to decrease the distorting effects of the load torque successfully. Under similar conditions, the PID-like FLC that controls the suspension forces shows a better time response compared to the PID controller. An enhancement in the responses is rated between 18% and 49%, measured using the absolute integral of error criteria on the x and y axes, and in the processing, time rated between 38% and 47%, very high oscillation suppression capability is observed in the PID-like FLC response

The accuracy of translation from the source language (SL) to the targeted language (TL) is not easy work. The translator should act as the connector between the writer of the work and the reader of the translation. The paper tries to analyses the translation of Arbai'n An-Nawawi by using the techniques offered by Molina Albir. This is a qualitative study that focuses on how the translator translated the Idhofi case in the Matan of Araba'in as the material object of this paper. Besides, the authors distributed questionnaires to assess the quality of the translation. The paper found that the translator uses 11 techniques that consist of 64 data of literal, 25 data of amplification, 21 data of borrowing, 12 data adaptation techniques, 6 data of compensation, 2 data of discursive creation, 2 data of reduction, 1 data of generalization, 1 data of modulation, and 1 data of transposition technique. Meanwhile, from the quality of the translation, it can be concluded that the compensation technique is much more acceptable, with 81% very accurate, 73% acceptable, and 77% rated high legibility. It is because the method helps the reader to understand the meaning, message, and goals to be conveyed.

Fiber size, pore size, and air permeability are three important properties in melt blown (MB) webs. Air permeability governs the air resistance or the pressure drop of the air through the web. One of the major applications of MB webs is for air filters. Fiber size dominates the web air filtration efficiency. Liquid filtration is another major application of MB webs. Pore size of the web determines the rated particle size in liquid filtration. Air permeability can be easily determined by air permeability testers. Fiber size and pore size in MB webs are difficult to measure by optical microscopy or other methods. However, they can be determined in fibrous products from the air flow rate through the web.

The Unified Modeling Language (UML) has become the de facto standard for object-oriented software development. It has been widely adopted in both training and practice. However, UML has often been criticized for being overly complex and difficult to learn for novice analysts. Although some research studies have identified specific novice difficulties in learning UML, there is little research proposing viable techniques for addressing these difficulties. In particular, there is a lack of research evaluating the usability of the sequence diagram (SD), which models the interactions among objects of a software application. This paper reports a research study that proposes a technique called “CHOP” (CHunking, Ordering, Patterning), which is designed to improve novice analyst performance in modeling an SD. The CHOP technique is based on the Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) and was developed by addressing the three types of cognitive load encountered by novices. An experimental study testing the efficacy of the CHOP technique in comparison to the worked-example approach indicated that the CHOP technique significantly improves novice analyst’s ability to model interactions among objects; however, the worked-example technique was the more efficient during training. The study also found that subjects using the CHOP technique rated its perceived usefulness significantly higher than subjects using the worked-example approach.

PurposeThis paper aims to present a new input interaction system for people with severe disabilities. The new system works based on eye gaze tracking and single switch scanning interaction techniques. It combines eye gaze tracking and scanning in a unique way which is faster than only scanning‐based systems while more comfortable to use than only eye gaze tracking‐based systems, which is also supported by a user study.Design/methodology/approachThe aim was to design a new interaction technique combining eye tracking and scanning technique for severely disabled people. A comparative study with eight users involving only an eye tracking system and the system combining eye tracking and scanning was conducted.FindingsThe participants rated the new system easier and less strenuous to use than the eye gaze tracking‐based system, while the new system did not slow the speed of interaction.Originality/valueThis new method based on eye gaze tracking and single switch scanning interaction techniques has potential to be a new interaction technique combining free source eye tracker and scanning switches. It is hoped users who can move a limb to use a single switch‐based scanning system will be hugely benefitted by this new system.

Purpose: To assess image quality and overall accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), including two magnetic cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) techniques, for the diagnostics and preoperative work-up of malignant hilar obstructions. Material and Methods: Thirty-one patients with malignant hilar obstructions (hilar cholangiocarcinoma, n = 30; hepatocellular carcinoma, n = 1) received MRCP by two techniques (single-shot thick-slab and multisection thin-slice MRCP) and unenhanced and contrast material-enhanced MRI. MR assessment included the evaluation of image quality and visualization of bile ducts (5-point scale), and the classification of tumor status. MR results were subsequently correlated with the results from surgery and pathology. Results: The maximum intensity projections of multisection thin-slice MRCP had significantly more artifacts compared to MRCP in the single-shot thick-slab technique, and overall image quality of single-shot thick-slab MRCP was rated significantly superior compared to multisection thin-slice MRCP (4.4±0.7 and 4.1±0.9, respectively). Moreover, ductal visualization of different parts of the biliary system was rated superior with single-shot thick-slab MRCP. In contrast, the original data from multisection thin slice MRCP facilitated visualization of periductal lesions and adjacent structures. Overall MR accuracy for the assessment of tumor status, periductal infiltration, and lymph node metastases was 90%, 87%, and 66%, respectively. Conclusion: For evaluation of malignant hilar obstructions, MRCP by the single-shot thick-slab technique had superior image quality and fewer artifacts; in contrast, besides sole biliary visualization, multisection MRCP depicted complementary adjacent parenchymal and periductal structures. We therefore recommend MRI, with a combination of both MRCP techniques, for the diagnostic work-up and therapy planning of malignant hilar obstructions.

Abstract Advanced control of variable speed horizontal wind turbine was considered in the high wind speed range. The aims of control in this region are to limit and stabilize the rotor speed and electrical power to their nominal values, while reducing the fatigue loads acting on the structure. A new nonlinear technique based on combination between sliding mode control and radial basis function neural network control was investigated. The proposed hybrid controller was implemented via MATLAB on a simplified two masses numerical model of wind turbine. By applying the Lyapunov approach, this controller was shown to ensure stability. It was found also to be robust and able to reject the uncertainties associated to system nonlinearities. The obtained results were compared with those provided by an existing controller.

Objective Flat panel cone beam CT is a relatively new technology that improves upon traditional multidetector CT scanners by generating images with greater spatial resolution at lower radiation doses. 1) Learn whether flat panel cone beam CT evaluation is an effective imaging modality for the sinuses. 2) Learn which doses of radiation provide quality evaluation of the sinuses while exposing the patient to the least amount of radiation. Methods In 2007, a panel consisting of neuroradiologists and otolaryngologists blindly reviewed images from flat panel sinus CTs (Xoran MiniCAT) of 11 live human subjects, each irradiated at all 3 different techniques (denoted as: low dose mAs=9.27, medium dose mAs = 18.41, high dose mAs=36.7) and rated the image quality of a pre-designated list of sinus anatomic structures. Techniques were compared in a pairwise manner using a Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed ranks test. Results Compared to the low dose technique CT scan, the high dose CT scan technique had significantly better image quality (P=.0029) and image noise (P=.0049). Similarly, the medium dose CT scan technique had significantly better image quality (P=.0020) and image noise (P = .0010) compared to the low dose technique. No difference in image quality and image noise existed between the medium and high dose techniques. No difference in visualization of 13 specific anatomic structures existed between any of the dose techniques. Conclusions Lower dose CT techniques achieved by flat panel cone beam CT may be an effective and safe alternative to traditional multidetector CT scanners. This imaging modality may help patients avoid unnecessary radiation to sensitive organs.

Amabile's Consensual Assessment Technique is commonly used in research on creative products. This study evaluates a modification of that technique which may facilitate research on creative products by calibrating nonexpert judges to expert judges in previous studies. University students ( N = 200; 59% women, M = 22.3 yr. of age, SD = 5.5) devised drawings to the Test of Creative Thinking-Drawing Production stimulus. These drawing products were rated by five artist-judges using the CAT and five psychologist-judges who first viewed 16 examples of the range of drawings in a previous study, referred to here as the modified consensual assessment technique. The 20 ratings of product creativity loaded on a single principal component, and the mean ratings correlated .91. Finally, the correlations of these ratings with other measures of creativity were nearly identical. Thus, a slight modification of the technique may be useful in programmatic research when the creativity task is not modified across studies and participants are like the present sample rather than from groups with specialized training or artistic talent.

The details of surgical techniques for primary correction of the unilateral cleft lip nose and their results for 45 cases are reported. The technique employed an infracartilaginous incision on the affected side, thus allowing direct suturing of the alar cartilage onto the lateral cartilage. For the postoperative evaluation, the nasal form in both frontal and bottom views was scored for five items. In overall evaluation, the grades of “Good,” “Fair,” and “Poor” were derived from the total scores of five items. In the postoperative results (range of follow-up: 24 months to 84 months), 24 cases were rated “Good” (53.3%), 13 cases “Fair” (28.9%), and 8 cases “Poor” (17.8%). Thirty cases appear not to need secondary correction (66.6%). The technique is useful because the alar cartilages and lateral cartilages can be accurately sutured, and relatively stable results can be obtained.

The original version and an evaluatively neutralized version (with items rephrased to reduce popularity) of a personality inventory were compared. The results revealed (i) similar criterion validity across three different sets of self–rated behaviours, (ii) stronger relations to the rated social desirability of criteria for the original version and (iii) less correlation between factors for the neutralized version. We take the results to indicate that evaluative neutralization is a viable technique for reducing social desirability in self–ratings. Implications for test construction are discussed. This article describes a contact-lens method to sustain asymmetry in visual deprivation and the use of this method to test the general hypothesis that asymmetry in input deprivation can shift activation balance in the integrated brain, differentially influencing lateral hemispheric function. Effects of asymmetrical visual deprivation were as predicted on lateral asymmetry of EEG theta, producing more theta over the deprived hemisphere. Cross-modal influence of such visual deprivation was found in the perception of pleasantness of odors. An interaction was found between side of visual deprivation and performance on verbal reasoning and spatial orientation tasks. A line-bisection test of visual attention was not sensitive to the effects. Fatigue as rated on the Profile of Mood States was greatest when the left hemisphere was deprived.

Zero-rating is a technique where internet service providers (ISPs) allow consumers to utilize a specific website without charging their internet data plan. Implementing zero-rating requires an accurate website identification method that is also efficient and reliable to be applied on live network traffic. In this paper, we examine existing website identification methods with the objective of applying zero-rating. Furthermore, we demonstrate the ineffectiveness of these methods against modern encryption protocols such as Encrypted SNI and DNS over HTTPS and therefore show that ISPs are not able to maintain the current zero-rating approaches in the forthcoming future. To address this concern, we present “Open-Knock,” a novel approach that is capable of accurately identifying a zero-rated website, thwarts free-riding attacks, and is sustainable on the increasingly encrypted web. In addition, our approach does not require plaintext protocols or preprocessed fingerprints upfront. Finally, our experimental analysis unveils that we are able to convert each IP address to the correct domain name for each website in the Tranco top 6000 websites list with an accuracy of 50.5% and therefore outperform the current state-of-the-art approaches.

Direct Magnitude Estimations (DME) and Equal Appearing Interval (EAI) scaling techniques were used to compare listeners’ perceptions of the extent of accent from recorded speech samples of international students enrolled in a United States university who spoke English as a second language. Twenty five international students served as speakers by reading the same brief passage for recording purposes. Twenty five American-born students with no formal training or experience with accents or accent reduction rated the extent of the accent on each of the spoken samples using both scaling techniques. Statistical analysis of the listener’s perceptions indicated no significant differences between the DME or EAI scaling procedures and a scatterplot comparing the data sets for each technique produced a significant linear relationship between the data for the two techniques.

<p>This paper propose distributed fast maximum power point tracking (DFMPPT) technique to achieve maximum power point tracking (MPPT). This paper implements the algorithm in distributed MPPT (DMPPT) architecture for mismatched condition with single module, and string connection. The MPPT method uses indirect and direct MPPT method by fractional open-circuit voltage (FOCV) with incremental conductance (INC) for high-speed maximum energy harvesting. This method is proven to be fast for tracking maximum power point (MPP) which achieves the peak power less in 1.7ms via for a single module with efficiency of 99.7% compared to the recent MPPT technique to reach MPP in 1.75ms with 95.8% efficiency. While for string configuration, the efficiency of the whole system is rated by 85.583% by taking 8.675ms to reach global MPP.</p>

ABSTRACT
This research called classroom action research (CAR) which combined with Chinese teaching material products. The researcher tried to use a Chinese module that was made by himself to improve the ability of students' speaking skills by collaborating with the application of the think pair share technique. Pretest Testing, Cycle 1 Test and Cycle 2 Test use the same test questions by testing 30 vocabulary words which is spoken verbally by each student. In the pre-test 21 students (95%) were ranked D and only 1 student (5%) was ranked C. The percentage of each indirect cycle increased until the final result of cycle 2 was 27% of students still ranked D, 50% of students rated C and 23% of students are rated B. This result is quite satisfying for researchers because Mandarin language skills are quite difficult lessons for beginners especially those who have very little study time but are required to master a lot of pronunciation and vocabulary.

The Authority of the Resource Technique (ART) is a multi-pronged interpretive approach for dealing with undesirable visitor behavior in protected areas. Although ART has been used and supported anecdotally by agency personnel since 1991, this study provides the first systematic field evaluation of its use. During the 1998 field season, 25 USFS and NPS wilderness/backcountry rangers from seven areas were given training in the use of ART and asked to make structured journal entries each time they chose to use ART while addressing undesirable visitor behaviors. An elaboration of the theoretical grounding for ART was used to help frame the evaluation. Among the results were findings that rangers using only ART with no law enforcement recorded high levels of verbalized intention to comply, observed compliance, and rated ART contacts as very or moderately effective for more than 75% of those contacts. Contacts rated as “very effective” were likely to include more of the multiple intervention strategies made available by the ART approach. Recommendations are given that could improve the effectiveness of ART and its ability to influence visitor beliefs, attitudes, intentions, and behaviors.

This paper presents a droop control technique for equal power sharing in islanded microgrid. In this study, the proposed controller is based on the frequency droop method, is applied to a robust droop controller in parallel connected inverters. The previous robust droop controller deals with voltage droop method. A modification has been formed against this controller by adding a fuzzy logic controller with the frequency droop method. The only sharing error which is concentrated in this paper is the error in sharing the rated frequency among the inverters. By adapting fuzzy in the robust droop, it tries to eliminate the frequency error, hence that the frequency reference of the inverters keeps maintain at 50Hz. A derivation of generalized models of a single-phase parallel-connected inverter system is shown. The simulation results show that the proposed controller with FLC is able to improve the stability of frequency reference and the performance of power sharing between the inverters under the inductive line impedance.

Objective. To compare the detection of microcalcifications on mammograms of an anthropomorphic breast phantom acquired by a direct digital flat-panel detector mammography system (FPM) versus a stereotactic breast biopsy system utilizing CCD (charge-coupled device) technology with either a 1024 or 512 acquisition matrix (1024 CCD and 512 CCD).Materials and Methods. Randomly distributed silica beads (diameter 100–1400 m) and anthropomorphic scatter bodies were applied to 48 transparent films. The test specimens were radiographed on a direct digital FPM and by the indirect 1024 CCD and 512 CCD techniques. Four radiologists rated the monitor-displayed images independently of each other in random order.Results. The rate of correct positive readings for the “number of detectable microcalcifications” for silica beads of 100–199 m in diameter was 54.2%, 50.0% and 45.8% by FPM, 1024 CCD and 512 CCD, respectively. The inter-rater variability was most pronounced for silica beads of 100–199 m in diameter. The greatest agreement with the gold standard was observed for beads 400 m in diameter across all methods.Conclusion. Stereotactic spot images taken by 1024 matrix CCD technique are diagnostically equivalent to direct digital flat-panel mammograms for visualizing simulated microcalcifications 400 m in diameter.
