The thesis presents a summary and an analysis of the Tar i h-i Ebu'[-Feth ("History of the Conqueror") by the Ottoman historian Tursun Bey. The History covers the period 1444-1488, with the bulk of it obviously devoted to the reign of Mehmed II "the Conqueror" (1451-1481). The thesis is in three chapters. The first analyses Tursun Bey's elaborate literary style and also examines the origins of his style, demonstrating that its literary ancestry goes back to thirteenth-century Iran, in particular to luvaini's Tarikh-i Jihangushiz ("History of the World Conqueror") (1252-1280), and can be traced through the Persian Histories by Vassaf (about 1328) and the Timurid historian Nizam aI-Din Shami (before 1402) and Sharaf aI-Din 'Ali Yazdi (1404). The chapter shows that Tursun Bey acquired mastery of this style not simply through studying these Persian prototypes to his History, but also through long employment in the Ottoman Chancery. It is -clear that during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries the Ottomans adopted many of the administrative forms of Ilkhanid Iran and provided models for the formulation of Ottoman administrative and diplomatic documents. Tursun Bey was able to transfer the skill in insa which he acquired in the Chancery to the composition of his History. The second chapter attempts to identify the sources which Tursun Bey used in composing the Introduction to his History: "On the people's need for the Noble Being of the Padi~ah, the Shadow of God". The only written source which Tursun Bey himself identifies is the Akhliiq-i Nii$iri of Na~ir aI-Din Tiisi (1235), although he appears also to have used the Chahiir Maqiilah of Nizami-i 'Ariidi (1156). His most important oral source was his patron, the Grand Vizier Mabmiid Pa~a (? - 1474), who in some respects emerges as the hero of the whole work. The chapter also shows how, in context and style, the Introduction draws on the tradition of 'Mirrors for Princes' literature. The final chapter gives a summary and analysis of the History itself. The first section of the ch(\p.t er outlines the principles which have been followed . in making the summary translation. In the text following each section of the summary, there is a commentary which attempts to identify Tursun Bey's sources and analyse his interpretation of events. The chapter also has footnotes comparing Tursun Bey's historical information with the equivalent passages in the works of other contemporary historians, in order to establish, as far as possible, a correct account of events.

L'objet de ce travail reside dans l'etude de l'orient islamique au vi xiieme siecle a travers le mir'at al-zaman, une histoire universelle ecrite par sibt ibn al-gawzi, historien iraquien du vii xiieme siecle. L'etude se divise en deux parties : 1: une introduction detaillee. Cette introduction se compose tout d'abord d'un travail de methodologie dans lequel apres avoir presente l'auteur et sont oeuvre sont tout a tour etudies le travail du chercheur et son approche des sources (les sources zankides et ayyubides, les sources de sibt ibn al-gawzi et l'influence du mir'at al-zaman sur les siecles posterieurs). Cette introduction presente ensuite les differents themes abordes par l'auteur dans sa chronique (l'egypte fatimide, le yemen, le magrib, les pelerinages, les tremblements de terre et les phenomenes extraordinaires). 2: la traduction. L'ouvrage est compose par la succession de cinquante et une annees (de 518 1124 a 569 1175) comprenant d'une part, un recit rapportant les fait qui marquerent l'auteur et de l'autre, une liste d'obituaires. Outre la cesure recit obituaires, la presentation des faits ne repond a aucune ordonnance precise. Cette traduction est doublee d'une annotation visant a la fois a expliciter les faits ainsi qu'a les commenter et a comparer le texte avec les sources manuscrites ou editees contemporaines et posterieures au mir'at al-zaman. Ce travail de doctorat s'acheve sur des annexes (plans, cartes, iconographie), une bibliographie (sources et ouvrages modernes) et un index (lieux, termes techniques et personnages)
The aim of this work lies in the study of the islamic orient in the vi xiith century through the mir'at al-zaman, a universal history written by sibt in al-gawzi, an iraqi writer of the vii xiith century. The study is divided in to two parts. 1: a detailed introduction. First of all, this introduction is composed of a methodological study in wich, after having introduced the author and his works, are treated in turn my technical approach and the way i have used the sources. This introduction presents afterwards the different subjects tackled by the author in his chronicle (the fatimid egypt, the yemen, the magrib, the pilgrimages, the earthquakes and the strange phenomenons) 2: the translation. The book is composed of the succession of fifty one years (from 518 1124 to 569 1175) including on the one hand, an account reporting the events that impressed the author and, on the other hand, an obituary list. Apart from the separation between the events and the obituary lists, the events are presented in no particular order. An annotation is added to the translation. This annotation explains and comments on the events and compares the text with both manuscript and printed sources, whether contemporary or posterior to the mir'at al-zaman. This "doctorat" ends with an appendix (maps, plans, iconography,), a bibliography (sources and modern works) and an index (places, technical terms and personalities)

Lung cancer arises from epithelial cells that line the air passages of the lungs. It is the second most common malignancy in the United States; trends suggest that over 228,000 new patients will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013. Due to the fact that lung cancer is highly aggressive, it has proven difficult to control. The 5-year survival rate has been shown to be only 15.9%, despite the advances made in terms of diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, we are faced with the problem of finding more effective methods that allow for an earlier diagnosis and the improved treatment of lung cancer. This study attempts to address these issues by investigating Tarsh, a novel molecule that is involved in the regulation of cellular senescence. Previous studies have shown that Tarsh is expressed in normal lung cells, but is significantly downregulated in lung tumors. These studies also determined that Tarsh is likely dependent upon the expression of p53, a tumor suppressor gene. The current study investigated these results, in addition to the biological effects of ectopically increasing Tarsh and/or knocking down p53 expression in two lung cancer cell lines: A549 and H1299 cell lines. It was determined that increasing the expression of Tarsh decreased the rate of proliferation in both cell lines. Additionally, it was shown that the knockdown of p53 increased proliferation in A549 cells. In regards to the migration rate of these cell lines, the overexpression of Tarsh decreased migration in A549 cells, but had no effect on H1299 cells. However, the role of p53 in migration is still unclear. The results of this study suggest that the knockdown of p53 decreases cell migration in A549 cells. This contradicts the fact that H1299 cells do not express p53, yet was found to have the highest migration rate. It is evident that a further investigation is needed to make more concrete conclusions. Nevertheless, the suppressive features of Tarsh on cell proliferation, and possibly migration, make it a promising target of research for lung cancer therapy.

The sedimentary and structural record of the NW Tarim Basin, China, provides an insight into the amalgamation of Central Asia and is an ideal area in which to examine the impact of an inherited tectonostratigraphic framework on the evolution of foreland fold-thrust belts. The NW Tarim Basin contains a thick (3-16 km) sedimentary succession which was deposited from the Late Neoproterozoic onwards, and has been exhumed by a foreland fold-thrust belt system associated with the South Tien Shan mountains during the Middle to Late Cenozoic. The research presented in this thesis combines satellite image interpretation and field investigations in order to examine the tectonostratigraphic framework of the NW Tarim Basin and to ascertain the causes of lateral structural variability and partitioning of the foreland fold-thrust belt system. The Upper Neoproterozoic to Lower Permian sedimentary succession records the progressive evolution of the NW Tarim Basin as a rift, intracratonic and foreland basin. Following a period of subaerial exposure throughout the Mesozoic, tectonic subsidence from the Middle Cenozoic onwards was driven by flexural deflection beneath the Pamirs and Tien Shan orogenic belts. This was coupled with the development of a foreland fold-thrust belt system along the northwest margin of the Tarim Basin. Lateral variations in the structural geometry, architecture and style of the foreland fold-thrust belt system correspond to changes in the thickness of the sedimentary succession and interaction with inherited, basement fault zones. An eastwest transition from the wide, arcuate Keping Shan Thrust Belt into the narrow Kashgar Fold Belt is ascribed to thickening of the Cenozoic (syn-tectonic) foreland basin succession. In contrast, internal variations in the structural architecture of the Keping Shan Thrust Belt are governed by lateral changes in the thickness of the Palaeozoic (pre-tectonic) sedimentary succession. These changes occur abruptly across inherited, Early Permian fault zones that have been reactivated as strike-slip faults in order to accommodate these lateral variations in the structure of the fold-thrust belt.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar os poss?veis impactos da elimina??o de barreiras comerciais, tarif?rias e, sobretudo, n?o-tarif?rias, sobre o mercado de carne bovina brasileiro. Para atingir esse objetivo, o m?todo utilizado foi um Modelo de Equil?brio Espacial formulado como um Problema de Complementaridade Mista (PCM). Esse modelo leva em considera??o as fun??es de oferta e demanda de cada produto em cada regi?o, os custos de transporte e a presen?a de barreiras ao com?rcio, conduzindo ? estima??o das quantidades produzidas e consumidas, dos fluxos comerciais e dos n?veis de pre?os em equil?brio em cada regi?o. A partir disso, este m?todo permite simular cen?rios alternativos por meio de modifica??es nos instrumentos de pol?tica utilizados pelos pa?ses, como: tarifas, subs?dios e barreiras n?o-tarif?rias. Para cada cen?rio foram analisados os efeitos da redu??o (elimina??o) das barreiras comerciais sobre a produ??o, consumo e excedente do produtor no mercado internacional. Para este estudo foram considerados as principais regi?es (agrupadas em blocos econ?micos) e pa?ses, em termos comerciais, participantes do mercado internacional de carne bovina in natura. De tal modo, quatro cen?rios alternativos foram constru?dos, nas seguintes esferas: multilateral e regional, removendo e/ou eliminando barreiras ao com?rcio, a fim de possibilitar a verifica??o dos poss?veis impactos nas quantidades, pre?os e n?veis de bem-estar dos produtores. O primeiro cen?rio simula um acordo multilateral, por meio de negocia??es junto ? Organiza??o Mundial do Com?rcio (OMC), com a elimina??o total das barreiras comerciais. O segundo e terceiro cen?rios simulam acordos regionais entre o MERCOSUL e Uni?o Europ?ia e ALCA. Finalmente, o quarto cen?rio simula a entrada dos pa?ses do MERCOSUL, mediante obten??o do status de livre de febre aftosa, no bloco n?o-aft?sico (circuito n?o-aft?sico). Como resultados, o estudo identificou as varia??es mais significativas para o Brasil e para o MERCOSUL nos n?veis de produ??o e consumo, pre?os e excedentes do produtor na simula??o do primeiro cen?rio, acordo multilateral (cen?rio 1A). Por outro lado, ainda em ?mbito multilateral (cen?rio 1B), quando se simularam as redu??es parciais nas tarifas (60%) e subs?dios (75%), as varia??es foram pequenas, n?o alterando as condi??es de com?rcio e mercado. Os cen?rios 2 e 3 apresentaram ganhos para os pa?ses do MERCOSUL, sobretudo quando ocorreu a elimina??o completa das barreiras comerciais (cen?rios 2A e 3A). Por?m, quando se simulou o cen?rio com as redu??es conforme cen?rio 1B, os resultados foram inexpressivos, em termos de ganhos para os produtores brasileiros e do MERCOSUL. Na simula??o do cen?rio 4, que considerou a elimina??o de problemas de ordem sanit?rias pelos pa?ses do MERCOSUL, permitindo acesso aos mercados do bloco n?o7 aft?sico, os ganhos foram significativos, sobretudo, pelo direcionamento das exporta??es para os pa?ses do NAFTA. Como verificado, os acordos com maiores possibilidades de ganhos para os produtores brasileiros e do MERCOSUL s?o aqueles em que ocorreu a elimina??o das barreiras n?o-tarif?rias em ambas esferas.

Abstract British composer Tarik Hamilton O’Regan is a significant choral composer of the early twenty-first century. O’Regan’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis and The Ecstasies Above exhibit two notable compositional techniques: minimalism influenced by Steve Reich and exoticism representing Balinese gamelan and Andalusian music. Additionally, Reich joins the technique of minimalism with the Renaissance practice of alternatim. The examination of these works will demonstrate the application of these two compositional techniques and how he integrates them into a textural context to evoke specific historical and cultural practices. Furthermore, this study will provide guidelines for researching and performing O’Regan’s choral works by explaining O’Regan’s stylistic characteristics.

This thesis deals with the stratigraphy and brachiopod systematic palaeontology of the latest Devonian (Famennian) to Early Permian (Kungurian) sedimentary sequences of the Tarim Basin, NW China. Brachiopod faunas of latest Devonian and Carboniferous age have been published or currently in press in the course of the Ph.D candidature and are herein appendixed, while the Early Permian brachiopod faunas are systematically described in this thesis. The described Early Permian brachiopod faunas include 127 species, of which 29 are new and 12 indeterminate, and six new genera (subgenera) are proposed; Tarimella, Bmntonella, Marginifera (Arenaria), Marginifera (Nesiotia), Baliqliqia and Ustritskia. A new integrated brachiopod biostratigraphical zonation scheme is proposed, for the first time, for the latest Devonian-Early Permian sequences of the entire Tarim Basin on the basis of this study as well as previously published information (including the Candidate's own published papers). The scheme consists of twenty three brachiopod acm biozones, most of which replace previously proposed assemblage or assemblage zones. The age and distribution of these brachiopod zones within the Tarim Basin and their relationships with other important fossil groups are discussed. In terms of regional correlations and biostratigraphical affinities, the Late Devonian to Early Carboniferous brachiopod faunas of the Tarim Basin are closest to those from South China, while the Late Carboniferous faunas demonstrate strong similarities to coeval faunas from the Urals, central Asia, North China and South China. During the Asselian-Sakmarian, strong faunal links between the Tarim Basin and those of the Urals persisted, while at the same time links with central Asia, North China and South China weakened. On the other hand, during the Artinskian-Kungurian times, affinities of the Tarim faunas with the Urals/Russian Platform rapidly reduced, when those with peri-Gondwana (South Thailand, northern Tibet) and South China increased. Thirty lithofacies (or microfacies) types of four facies associations are recognised for the Late Devonian to early Permian sediments. Based on detailed lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and facies analysis, 23 third-order sequences belonging to four supcrsequences are identified for the Late Devonian to Early Permian successions, from which sea-level fluctuation curves are reconstructed. The sequence stratigraphical analysis reveals that four major regional regressions, each marking a distinct supersequence boundary, can be recognised; they correspond to the end-Serpukhovian, end-Moscovian, late Artinskian and end-Kungurian times, respectively. The development of these sequences is considered to have been formed and regulated by the interplay of both eustasy and tectonism. Using the system tract of a sequence as the mapping time unit, a succession of 47 palaeogeographical maps have been reconstructed through the Late Devonian to Early Permian. These maps reveal that the Tarim Basin was first immersed by southwest-directed (Recent geographical orientation) transgression in the late Famennian after the Caledonian Orogeny. Since then, the basin had maintained its geometry as a large, southwest-mouthed embayment until the late Moscovian when most areas were the uplifted above sea-level. The basin was flooded again in late Asselian-Artinskian times when a new transgression came from a large epicontinental sea lying to its northwest. Thereafter, marine deposition was restricted to local areas (southwestern and northwestern margins until the late Kungurian, while deposition of continental deposits prevailed and continued through the Middle and late Permian into the Triassic.

L'enregistrement biosédimentaire Ordovicien du bassin de Tarim offre la possibilité de s'attaquer à quatre grands enjeux scientifiques liés au «grand événement de biodiversité ordovicienne » (Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event ou GOBE en anglais): i) la phylogenèse des organismes incertae sedis, ii) la paléodiversité des producteurs primaires benthiques (algues calcaires, calcimicrobes), iii) la nature des précipités authigénique des fonds marins (automicrite), et iv) la diagénèse en termes d'évolution de la porosité et de l'enregistrement géochimique des perturbations environnementales provoquant des changements biosédimentaires majeures (éponges, crinoïdes contre algues benthiques). L'analyse typologique, morphométrique et microstructurale du microfossile problématique Halysis Høeg, 1932, conclut pour une algue verte siphonnée avec une affinité à Bryopsidales, Udoteaceae, morphotype Flabellia petiolata (Turra) Nizamuddin 1987. Les monticules d’Halysis (Katian) font partie d'une rampe carbonatée peu profonde et subtidale dominée par des tapis de sable de granules d'algues. L’accrétion de monticules était contrôlée par des phénomènes autocycliques, produisant des épisodes sédimentaires et d’enfouissement suivis de lacunes et de périodes de croissance d’algue. Dans le bassin de Tarim, la diversité des producteurs primaires benthiques augmente considérablement au cours de la zone de Belodina confluens d’Ordovicien supérieur (Katian). Par rapport aux courbes de diversité dérivées d'autres régions (Laurentia, Baltoscandia), dans le bassin de Tarim, il y a une propagation de la diversification d'environ 4 Ma. La courbe de diversité des producteurs primaires benthiques sont semblables à celles enregistrées par certains groupes de fossiles herbivores et suspensivores (Échinodermes eleuthérozoaires, gastéropodes). Cinq types de précipitations authigénique des fonds marins (automicrite) sont présents dans les monticules carbonatés de calathid-demosponge (Darriwilian), tout d'abord interprété comme « carbonate microbien ». Une bonne corrélation de la fluorescence et de la cathodoluminescence des automicrites indique que l'organominéralisation induite et soutenue a produit de l'automicrite, probablement par la perminéralisation de substrats organiques non vivants adsorbant des complexes métal-humâtes dissous. À l'aide de six paramètres et de dix-sept caractères, quatre automicrites se révèlent non microbiennes au lieu de représenter probablement des reliques de métazoaires calcifiés (éponges, structures d'attachement des invertébrés tendus). Un automicrite est d'origine microbienne, mais l'âge de l'après-monticule réussit une disconformité. En utilisant un ensemble de séquences paragénétiques, un échantillonnage géochimique des composants spécifiques a été effectué pour déterminer la variation de la composition isotopique stable au carbone et à l'oxygène. Il existe deux niveaux stratigraphiques distincts séparés par Δδ13C ≈ +2.5 ‰ (PDB). Les deux niveaux suivent la même tendance partielle de diminution de δ18O typique pour l’augmentation de la température pendant l'enfouissement. Les valeurs de δ18O les moins modifiées sont également séparées selon les mêmes deux niveaux stratigraphiques (Δδ18O ≈ +2.0 ‰). Cette excursion positive couplée de δ13C-δ18O est considérée comme le résultat d'une augmentation du taux d'enfouissement du carbone organique (formation de roches mères d'hydrocarbures) et d'un refroidissement climatique subséquent provoquant un changement biosédimentaire majeure (éponges, crinoïdes contre algues benthiques) le long de l'intervalle limite Sandbian-Katian
The Ordovician biosedimentary record of the Tarim Basin offers the opportunity to tackle four major scientific issues related to the Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event: i) the phylogenesis of organisms incertae sedis, ii) the paleodiversity of benthic primary producers (calcareous algae, calcimicrobes), iii) the nature of authigenic sea-floor precipitates (automicrite), and iv) diagenesis in terms of porosity evolution and the geochemical record of environmental perturbations causing major biosedimentary turnovers (sponges, crinoids versusbenthic algae). The typological, morphometric and microstructural analysis of the mound-forming microproblematicum Halysis Høeg, 1932 concludes for a siphonous green alga with an affinity to Bryopsidales, Udoteaceae, morphotype Flabellia petiolate (Turra) Nizamuddin 1987. Early Katian Halysismounds form part of a shallow-subtidal carbonate ramp dominated by algal-pellet sand sheets. Their accretion was controlled by autocyclic drivers such as increments of sediment flux and burial followed by episodes of omission and algal growth. In the Tarim Basin, the diversity of benthic primary producers increases substantially during the Upper Ordovician (Katian) Belodina confluens Zone. Compared to diversity curves derived from other regions (Laurentia, Baltoscandia), in the Tarim Basin there is a protraction of diversification by about 4 Ma. The global diversity curve of benthic primary producers is similar to those derived from some herbivorous and suspension-feeding fossil groups (eleutherozoan echinoderms, gastropods). Five kinds of authigenic sea-floor precipitates (automicrite) are present in Darriwilian calathid-demosponge carbonate mounds, altogether formerly interpreted as ‘microbial carbonate’. A good correlation of fluorescence and cathodoluminescence of automicrites indicates that induced and supported organomineralization produced automicrite, probably via the permineralization of non-living organic substrates adsorbing dissolved metal-humate complexes. Using six parameters and seventeen characters, four automicrites turn out to be non-microbial instead likely represent relics of calcified metazoan tissue (sponges, attachment structures of stalked invertebrates). One automicrite is microbial in origin but is post-mound in age succeeding a disconformity. Using a set of paragenetic sequences, component-specific geochemical sampling was performed to determine the variation of carbon and oxygen stable isotopic composition. There are two distinct stratigraphic levels separated by Δδ13C ≈ +2.5‰ (PDB).Both levels display a subparallel trend of decreasing δ18O typical for increasing temperature during burial. Least altered δ18O values are equally separated along the two stratigraphic levels (Δδ18O ≈ +2.0‰). This coupled positive δ13C-δ18O excursion is considered the result of an increasing burial rate of organic carbon (formation of hydrocarbon source rocks) and subsequent climatic cooling causing a biosedimentary turnover (sponges, crinoids versusbenthic algae) along the Sandbian-Katian boundary interval.

Archean crustal evolution and geodynamic setting of the Paleoproterozoic and Neoproterozoic - Paleozoic tectonothermal events and their implications for the evolution of the Columbia and Rodinia supercontinents and the Central Asia Orogenic Belt are discussed and new models proposed.

Numerical ice sheet modeling is a rather young discipline: it started in the 1950s. The "first generation" models developed at that time are currently being replaced by "new generations" ones, such as e.g. ARCTIC-TARAH. ARCTIC-TARAH is a Bert Bolin Center for Climate Research spin-off from the Pennsylvania State University Ice sheet model (PSUI). When the Bolin Center received PSUI for subsequent independent development and adaption of the code to Arctic settings in 2010, an initial inspection of the source code suggested that PSUI also contained a module that allows for the treatment of glacial hydraulics. A numerical ice sheet model including coupling of ice dynamics and hydraulics is an extremely important tool in testing new hypotheses of former geological events. E.g., based on the recent finding that Arctic Ocean sediments contain a very distinct signature, it has been suggested that ice dammed lakes at the south-eastern margin of the late Weichselian Eurasian ice sheet drained into the Arctic Ocean in a catastrophic event around 55.000 years ago. The aim of this thesis is to perform a reconnaissance analysis of the glacio-hydraulic algorithms in ARCTIC-TARAH, as "inherited" (but never with published record of functionality) from PSUI. The work is carried out in two steps: first the routines and algorithms describing the hydraulics are located and explored, and then these routines are tested and verified by performing experiment simulations. The investigation of the program code reveals the presence of two hydraulics related modules in ARCTIC-TARAH. The main tasks of the module Water are to initiate lakes and oceans and to adjust hydrostatic pressure in each lake. Further, with the module Move Water activated, transportation of water (e.g. in rivers) is possible. Results from idealized experiment simulations verify the functionality of the routines in the module Water. An in-depth analysis of the module Move Water suggests that there is a mismatch in time units when solving the equations describing flow of water. Experiment simulations also support this flaw detected in the flow model. Preliminary adjustments were made to the source code  of the module Move Water, which made it possible to simulate the transportation of water both under an ice sheet and in rivers on land. However, these adjustments do not solve the problem of mismatching time scales, and the numerical solutions obtained from the experiments were observed to be unstable and, therefore, possibly incorrect. To be able to perform more advanced simulations in support of the above mentioned hypothesis, the flow model in the module Move Water needs to be improved or replaced. One solution to the problem with mismatching time scales, could be to use a so called multiscale solution in time.

Das aride Tarim-Becken im Nordwesten Chinas unterliegt Umweltveränderungen, die durch rapide Ausbreitung bewässerter Landwirtschaft sowie Klimawandel angetrieben sind. Während im Oberlauf in den letzten 50 Jahren ein Abflussanstieg beobachtet wurde, haben landwirtschaftliche Aktivitäten im Mittel- und Unterlauf zur Wasserknappheit und der drastischen Verkürzung des endorheischen Flusses geführt. Der Abfluss des Tarim, dessen Hauptzufluss der in Kirgistan entspringende Aksu-Fluss darstellt, wird zu einem großen Teil aus Schnee- und Gletscherschmelze in den oberen Gebirgseinzugsgebieten des Tien Shan gespeist. Da die Unterlieger von dem Wasser des Tarim zur Bewässerung in der Landwirtschaft abhängig sind, sind das Wissen über den Beitrag der Gletscherschmelze zum Abfluss sowie das Wissen über mögliche zukünftige Änderungen der Gletschermasse von großer Relevanz. Zahlreiche Studien beschränken sich oftmals nur auf die Betrachtung der Gletscherfläche, deren Änderung jedoch keine direkten Rückschlüsse auf etwaige Massenänderungen zulässt und zudem nur ein indirektes Signal für Klimaänderungen darstellt. Weiterführende Studien, welche zusätzlich Gletschermassenänderungen im Aksu-Einzugsgebiet untersuchen, haben häufig nur lokalen Charakter. Regionale Studien zu Massenänderungen, welche ganze Einzugsgebiete und Gebirgsketten umfassen, finden sich mehrheitlich für die letzte Dekade durch die Verfügbarkeit laseraltimetrischer Höhendaten und gravimetrischer Messungen, wobei letztere durch hohe Unsicherheiten gekennzeichnet sind. Um jedoch Aussagen hinsichtlich der zeitlichen Entwicklung der Gletscher treffen zu können, widmet sich die Arbeit insbesondere der Untersuchung von Gletschermassenveränderungen seit den 1970er Jahren unter Verwendung deklassifizierter amerikanischer Satellitenbilddaten, SRTM-Daten sowie SPOT-5-Stereodaten. Zur Ableitung geodätischer Gletschermassenbilanzen wurden Daten der Mapping Camera (MC) des Hexagon-Satelliten aus den Jahren 1973–1976 stereoskopisch ausgewertet und mit Daten der SRTM-Mission aus dem Jahr 2000 und SPOT-5-Stereodaten aus dem Jahr 2009 verglichen. Die Ableitung geodätischer Massenbilanzen aus multi-temporalen Geländemodellen erforderte deren Co-Registrierung auf das als SRTM gewählte Master-Modell. In einem zweistufigen Verfahren wurden Verkippungen über eine globale Trendfläche und horizontale Lagefehler über eine analytische Beziehung zwischen Oberflächenneigung, Orientierung und der entsprechenden Höhendifferenz unter Einbeziehung nicht-glazialer Pixel minimiert. Die Eindringtiefe des SRTM-C-Bands wurde mittels ICESat-Daten mit 2,2 m abgeschätzt und bei der Differenzbildung berücksichtigt. Zur Bereinigung der Differenzbilder zwischen den Geländemodellen wurde ein höhenbasierter Ansatz entwickelt, welcher eine abnehmende Varianz der Höhendifferenzwerte vom Ablations- zum Akkumulationsgebiet annimmt. Dieser Ansatz stellt eine deutlich realistischere Annahme im Vergleich zur oftmals verwendeten Nullannahme dar, welche von keinen Veränderungen in den Akkumulationsgebieten ausgeht. Die Gletscher im Aksu-Einzugsgebiet zeigten im Ergebnis einen Massenverlust von 0,35±0,34 m w.e./a im Zeitraum 1975–1999, was dem globalen Durchschnitt für diese Periode entspricht. In den Jahren 1999 bis 2009 wurde indes eine Abnahme des Massenverlusts (0,23±0,19 m w.e./a) festgestellt, was möglicherweise auf eine Zunahme des Niederschlags in der letzten Dekade zurückzuführen ist. Zudem zeigte sich, dass schuttbedeckte Gletscher, deren Schuttauflage ab einer Dicke von etwa 2 cm einen hemmenden Einfluss auf die Abschmelzrate hat, signifikant an Masse verloren haben bei gleichzeitig nur relativ geringer Flächenabnahme. Insgesamt wies die räumliche Verteilung der Massenänderungen eine starke Heterogenität auf, mit zunehmender Tendenz von Osten nach Westen und von den Innen- zu den Außenbereichen des Zentralen Tien Shan. Zusätzlich konnten zahlreiche, zuvor in der Literatur nicht benannte, surgende Gletscher identifiziert werden. Der durch Eismassenverlust induzierte Anteil am Gesamtabfluss des Aksu wurde im Ergebnis mit circa 20% ermittelt. Neben der Oberflächenneigung sind, in einfachen Modellen zur Eisdickenabschätzung, die basale Scherspannung und der Anteil basalen Gleitens an der Oberflächengeschwindigkeit Haupteinflussfaktoren. Anhand gemessener Eisdicken, fernerkundlich abgeleiteter Gletscherfließgeschwindigkeiten und der Oberflächenneigung, als Näherung der Neigung des Gletscherbetts, konnte ein empirischer Zusammenhang zur Abschätzung des Anteils basalen Gleitens abgeleitet werden. Die Eisdickenabschätzung für die vier größten Gletscher des Zentralen Tien Shan erfolgte im weiteren Verlauf durch Anwendung von Glen’s Fließgesetz, unter Annahme laminaren Fließens. Die Ergebnisse weisen für die betrachteten Gletscher mittlere Dicken von 70 m bis 140 m für deren schuttbedeckte Gletscherzungen auf. Diese Werte liegen teilweise deutlich unter denen bisheriger Studien, welche von einer globalen Scherspannung für den gesamten Gletscher oder einem konstanten Anteil basalen Gleitens ausgehen. Im Vergleich zu vorhandenen Eisdickenmessungen konnte durch die lokale Abschätzung der basalen Geschwindigkeit die mittlere Abweichung von zuvor mehr als 200 m auf etwa 50 m reduziert werden. Durch Einbeziehung der in der Arbeit ermittelten geodätischen Gletschermassenbilanzen wurde der relative Volumenverlust seit den 1970er Jahren mit 6% bis 28% quantifiziert, welcher deutlich unter dem schuttfreier Gletscher innerhalb Hochasiens liegt.

Анотація:
This is a phenomenological-hermeneutic case study of Tariq who initially presented with panic disorder. It documents how, as therapy proceeded, the underlying meaning of his initial panic deepened as its roots in traumatic memories of childhood emerged. There were four spaced phases of treatment over four years. The first focused on anxiety management; the second was conceptualized within schema-focused therapy, and evoked and worked with childhood memories using inner child guided imagery; in the third and fourth phases insights gained led to an authentic re-engagement with family members in relationships that had been problematic. The panic attacks resolved and there were two dreams representing a reconfiguring of his relationship with his deceased father. The first two phases were the focus of an unpublished case study presented at a conference in 1995. This article incorporates material from that study and looks back at the case both in light of developments in phases two and three and also in light of theoretical developments in our understanding of complex trauma since the initial presentation.
