Повний текст джерелаStudies have shown that the presence of illustrations in multimedia documents does not always improve learning because they can be processed superficially. Learner-generated drawing could engage them in more active processing of the document. However, the effects of learner-generated drawing appear to be mixed and depend on the level of support provided during the activity. To better understand the effectiveness conditions of this activity on learning of secondary school students, two complementary approaches were adopted. The first approach was to co-design a learner-generated drawing application on tablet. The second approach was based on an experimental method and aimed to study the effects of learner-generated drawing on scientific concepts learning in fifth grade students. Two studies tested the effects of learner-generated drawing and of its facilitation through guidance (providing students with an illustration during the generative activity or highlighting the elements to be generated). They did not demonstrate any beneficial effects of the activity on learning, whether guided or not. The third study examined the effects of students working collaboratively in learner-generated drawing, and found that it did not improve their learning compared to working individually. These results suggest that other types of support for learner-generated drawing need to be investigated to obtain real benefits of this activity on students'learning

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis focuses on educational policies in favor of digital technologies and on levers of action implemented to encourage students and teachers to use these technologies in school. The ethnographic study took place from July 2013 to October 2015 and was conducted in a college engaged in tablet experimentation for digital education (TED). The research focuses on the processes of appropriation of a mobile technology designed to be educational and aimed at developing innovative and enriched new instrumented practices. The experiment study is centered around the device concept. To analyze the actual or expected effects of the use of a socio-technical object in an educational context and the circumstances of its appropriation by users, several observation methods have been combined. The analysis reveals significant tensions between prescribed practices - through discourses, national educational policies, experiments, the technical object itself - and the actual practices of users

Повний текст джерелаSince a few years multi-touch mobile devices are becoming increasingly common. More and more schools are testing them with their pupils in the hope of bringing pedagogic benefits. However, very few applications in the context of 3D geometry learning can be found on the different stores. Manipulating a 3D scene with a 2D device is the main difficulty of such applications. Young students, learning structuration of space, are unable to do that with classical software used on desktop computer. Through this thesis, we focus on allowing students aged 9 to 15 to manipulate, observe and modify 3D scenes by using new technologies brought by the digital tablets. By using a user-centred approach, we have proposed a grammar of interactions adapted to young learners. Then, we have evaluated acceptability, ease to use and ease to learn of our interactions. Finally, we have studied in situ the pedagogic benefits brought by the use of tablets with an app based on our grammar. Our results shows that students are able to manipulate, observe and modify 3D scenes when they use an adapted set of interactions. Moreover, in the context of 3D geometry learning a significant contribution had been observed in two classes when students used such an application

Повний текст джерелаIn many countries, the textbook is both the student's book and the teaching guide. It is the main resource for planning educational tasks (Lepik et al., 2015, Bjarnadóttir, 2018). However, Belinga (2009) observes that the content of some Cameroonian textbooks does not take into account the social context. This is why teacher training in terms of context and content to be taught remains a major challenge in an education system (Balhan et al., 2019, Ben-Zvi and Makar, 2016, Djeumeni, 2015, Proulx and Bednarz, 2010). Thus, we invited secondary school pre-service teachers to explore a directory of digital resource materials to enrich the statistical content of the textbook. We sought to understand how they orchestrate information from documentary resources during anticipatory activities prior to planning. An articulation between several theoretical frameworks and concepts allowed to develop an approach that could contribute to study the anticipatory activities of the trainees. This framework derives from the documentary approach of didactics (Gueudet and Trouche, 2008) and epistemological stances (DeBlois and Squalli, 2002, Deblois, 2012). The didactic experimentation that we put in place during a six-month period involved three statistical contents to be taught in secondary school: the average, the standard deviation and the statistical diagrams. The results of this work provide an added value to the documentary approach of didactics through the study of the influence of the epistemological stances adopted by trainees during their anticipatory activities. Thus, it appears that the trainees choose their documents based on arrangement variables characterized by a tension between the stances of the former student and the teacher. Trainees' concerns about the choice of context for students seem to be influenced by their experiences as former students. This justifies the predominance of the context related to students' grades in all of the completed planning. The study of statistical content and interactions between trainees contributed to the emergence of the stance of the university student. Indeed, the trainees valued and mobilized the knowledge of training in statistics education and improved their understanding in the statistical knowledge at stake. The teaching stance emerges when studying the variables related to the nature of the data. It manifests itself when trainees plan the teaching of the concepts in play in many ways in order to target students' understanding and interpretation. However, the trainees do not anticipate the tasks making it possible to value the use of meaningful data such as those derived from daily reality and those collected by the students. This seems to have reduced the anticipation of tasks anchored on the development of statistical reasoning in students.

Повний текст джерелаJoined in a socio-technical context particularly marked by the rise of digital technologies, this research studies the representations and conceptualizations underlying the functional modeling of middle school students about the functioning of touch Smartphone and Digital Interactive Boards. Data are collected in five investigations by questionnaires and / or group interviews with about 1300 students (6th and 3rd). Data analysis reveals: 1) lack of questioning about how digital systems work; 2) the main concern about the function of the artefact; 3) clear identification of the detection function in contrast with the information processing(software, processor, information). Also investigations highlight the effects of the form and content of questions about the emergence of representations mobilized by students and therefore conceptualizations underlying their functional modeling. This research enables to consider other additional studies to grasp the conditions of this modeling in connection with the extension of empirical referent. Finally this thesis suggests teaching guidelines to facilitate the relationship between practical familiarization and intellectual elaborations to the middle school in agreement with the common basic curriculum in France which now includes the study of natural and technical systems among the prescribed contents

Повний текст джерелаThe 21st century is commonly known as the “digital age”. Information technology has become a defining component of a new generation of learners, the so-called “digital natives”. Massive investment in digital learning equipment for schools has become a priority to meet the rising demands of society. Digital technologies, initially intended to supplement traditional course book instruction are fast replacing printed books altogether. Instant access to (mostly) authentic language material is a definite asset for developing linguistic skills and implementing the action-based approach prescribed by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. However, learner ability does not necessarily match all requirements for processing input from the Internet. Educators who believe in the added value of information technology in language pedagogy should therefore consider more carefully the actual cognitive capacities and cognitive engagement shown by learners when exposed to rich stimulus. For digital devices to become efficient pedagogical tools in language pedagogy, learner ability, teaching strategies, and technological implements must be mutually adjusted and integrated within a consistent framework. Although hypermedia is attractive, non-linear and interactive, it is essential to verify that learners do possess the skills and efficiency to process the information obtained from hypertext documents. Information processing is indeed a major challenge since it involves not only searching and retrieving relevant pieces of information, but requires some cognitive processing—a semantic construction within working memory. The perspective adopted here is thus multidisciplinary, with multiple references to linguistics, education, psycholinguistics, and cognitive science. Also needed are an overview of the various digital devices available and an assessment of their true relevance to language pedagogy. As a professional EFL teacher working in a vocational school, I consider digital technologies to be precious in motivating and engaging learners. The secondary school students involved in the current research study usually show little concern for language learning in the first place. The practical issue can thus be framed as “How can the use of tablets engage them as learners and favourably alter their conceptions of the second language?” To answer this question, a pre-test is set up to form preliminary hypotheses on degrees of cognitive engagement in the language classroom whenever digital devices are put to pedagogical use. The concrete, situated use of tablets is observed, their playful nature and expected contribution to motivation assessed. Learning attitudes and the ability to process information are subject to close scrutiny. At this preliminary stage, methods remain largely intuitive, and the activities or learning processes not strictly characterized. A more structured experiment setup must thus be created, based on more established criteria of action-research, the details and results of which are analysed in this dissertation

Повний текст джерелаThis study focuses on the use of digital technology for learning amongst adolescent high school students in the Malian socio-educational context. It seeks to understand how these learners use digital tools to carry out pedagogical activities inside and outside French as a second language classes and it questions the role of the tools in informal language learning within their school curriculum. An ethnographic study enabled us to observe a sample of adolescent high school students in four Bamako high schools, in the different social spaces in which they move on a daily basis: the high school and its different spaces, the family home and the “grin”. The “grin” is a word from Bambara (first national language in Mali), which describes both a group of friends of the same age and the different places where they meet one another. The study uses interviews, logbooks and the observation of situations in which digital tools are used, during which photographs were taken, to capture how each adolescent high school student puts together learning resources from the tools available in each context. The epistemological position comes from case thinking, which enabled us to reconstruct portraits of high school students from the situations in which they use digital tools. Each situation described is seen as being set in a particular social configuration where identities and interdependence relations are at stake. Thus we report how uses evolve according to place. The mobile phone was identified at the start of the study as being the main mediation tool for high school students’ digital practices in the Malian socio-economic context. The goal then was to consider how the mobile phone was imported into the classroom as a school phenomenon and thus to examine the school form of the pedagogical relationship, in light of the high school students’ uses identified during didactic interaction. Thus, interviews were conducted with French teachers during their lessons and with senior school authority members in order to determine how they appropriate this phenomenon, what significance they attribute to it and how it impacts on the power and knowledge relations, which are at the foundation of the school educational relationship. The interviews were analysed from the standpoint of Critical Discourse Analysis. The results reveal tensions which emerge around the pedagogical uses of the mobile phone between, on the one hand, the teacher and his/her students and, on the other hand, between the teacher and the school authority. In view of these tensions, pedagogical suggestions are offered so that teachers can re-appropriate mobile digital tools brought into the classroom by students

Повний текст джерелаThe recent French schools reform (2009) was accompanied by a change in mathematics curriculum. With respect to the “classe de seconde” (9th-10th Grade in US High School), two subjects question us: first, the new positioning of algebra, now part of the functional domain, giving it a primary role of tool, and on the other hand, the introduction of algorithmic concepts.Through the value of combining these two subjects, this thesis proposes a didactic study of the resumption of elementary algebra in “classe de seconde”, and especially of the objects orbiting around equation concept, objects of which we search to refine the meaning, through the detour of algorithmics. Positioned within the anthropological theory of the didactic by Chevallard, we study the conditions and constraints of this resumption. Through a didactic engineering implementation in collaboration with three high school teachers, we show how the resumption of basic algebra concepts through algorithmics induced for students a gesture of generalization, while achieving some materialization of algebraic objects, manipulating them in a computer program. For teachers, this engineering induces a questioning of their praxeology teaching algebra, generated by non-routine tasks of equations categorization and modeling. Finally, we highlight the challenge of integrating algorithmics domain within mathematics discipline and the need for teachers to be trained, to ensure the viability of this teaching
