Анотація:
The learning outcomes of Hydrocarbon Compounds in students of SMA Negeri 2 Jember in the 2020/2021 academic year are still low, namely 44% of students achieving mastery learning with a value of 80. The cause of the low student learning outcomes is due to the constrained learning process, where students have to study from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the instruments used have not used learning tools in the form of pen tablets. This research wants to see whether or not there is an effect of using pen tablets in learning on the learning outcomes of Hydrocarbon Compounds. The method used in this research is an experimental research method. There are two classes that are used as research samples, namely class XI MIPA 1 where pen tablets are not used, and class XI MIPA 2 is using pen tablets in learning through the zoom application. From student learning outcomes, it is known that in class XI MIPA 1, as the control class, there are 47% of students achieving mastery learning, while in class XI MIPA 2, as the experimental class, there are 75% of students achieving mastery learning. From the data above, it can be concluded that there is an effect of using pen tablets on the learning outcomes of Hydrocarbon Compounds in students of SMA Negeri 2 Jember in the academic year 2021/2022. ABSTRAKHasil belajar Senyawa Hidrokarbon pada siswa SMA Negeri 2 Jember tahun pelajaran 2020/2021 masih rendah, yaitu 44% siswa mencapai ketuntasan belajar dengan nilai ? 80. Penyebab rendahnya hasil belajar siswa dikarenakan proses pembelajaran yang terkendala, dimana siswa harus belajar dari rumah karena adanya pandemi Covid-19 serta instrumen yang digunakan belum menggunakan alat pembelajaran berupa pen tablet. Penelitian ini ingin melihat ada atau tidaknya pengaruh penggunaan pen tablet dalam pembelajaran terhadap hasil belajar Senyawa Hidrokarbon. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian eksperimen. Terdapat dua kelas yang digunakan sebagai sampel penelitian, yaitu kelas XI MIPA 1 dengan perlakuan tidak digunakan pen tablet, dan kelas XI MIPA 2 digunakan pen tablet dalam pembelajaran melalui aplikasi zoom. Dari hasil belajar siswa, diketahui bahwa di kelas XI MIPA 1, sebagai kelas kontrol, terdapat 47% siswa mencapai ketuntasan belajar, sedangkan di kelas XI MIPA 2, sebagai kelas eksperimen, terdapat 75% siswa mencapai ketuntasan belajar. Dari data di atas dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa ada pengaruh penggunaan pen tablet terhadap hasil belajar Senyawa Hidrokarbon pada siswa SMA Negeri 2 Jember tahun pelajaran 2021/2022.

We designed a computer pencil and tablet for Freestyle,TM a multimedia communications system based on handwritten annotations. Although graphics pens and tablets are already in use for handprinted character recognition and CAD applications, designing a pen and tablet specifically for rapid, continuous handwriting required substantial changes. Design criteria came from a laboratory study in which evaluators performed various writing and drawing tasks with a working pen and tablet. Evaluators rated the working system, plus model pens and tablets that were variants on a proposed design. Field observations of working prototypes also contributed to the final product.

This Best Practice is implemented to improve mathematics learning outcomes of vocational through the use of a Pen Tablet with the Google Meet application. The subjects of this study were 155 students of SMKN 5 Kota Serang class XII OTKP and XII TKJ who were conducted in the odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year with the material: Three Dimensional Geometry, Statistics and Probability. This Best Practice describes the learning process using media in the form of a Pen Tablet with the Google Meet application. Quantitative data were obtained from daily test scores with written test techniques in the form of descriptions, while qualitative data were obtained from observations of student activity. After students were taught mathematics using Pen Tablet with the Google Meet application, learning outcomes increased by 24.6% from the average chapter 1 material of 62,00 which continued to increase in chapter 3 material to 77.25. The implementation of Best Practice shows that the use of the Pen Tablet with the Google Meet application can improve the mathematics learning outcomes of SMK students, especially students of class XII OTKP and XII TKJ SMKN 5 Kota Serang in the odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. ABSTRAKBest Practice ini dilaksanakan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar matematika SMK melalui penggunaan Pen Tablet dengan aplikasi Google Meet. Subyek dari penelitian ini adalah siswa SMKN 5 Kota Serang kelas XII OTKP dan XII TKJ yang berjumlah 155 orang yang dilakukan pada semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2021/2022 dengan materi : Geometri Dimensi Tiga, Statistika dan Peluang. Best Practice ini menggambarkan tentang proses pembelajaran menggunakan media berupa Pen Tablet dengan aplikasi Google Meet. Data kuantitatif diperoleh dari nilai ulangan harian dengan teknik test tertulis bentuk uraian, sedangkan data kualitatif diperoleh dari hasil observasi keaktifan siswa. Setelah siswa diajarkan matematika menggunakan Pen Tablet dengan aplikasi Google Meet hasil belajar meningkat sebesar 24,6 % dari rata-rata materi bab 1 62,00 meningkat terus pada materi bab 3 menjadi 77,25. Pelaksanaan Best Practice menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Pen Tablet dengan aplikasi Google Meet dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar matematika siswa SMK terutama siswa kelas XII OTKP dan XII TKJ SMKN 5 Kota Serang semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2021/2022.

Abstract This pilot study examines the recent phenomenon of tablet interpreting. Based on in-depth interviews with six practitioners, which were transcribed and analyzed inductively, the article presents an overview of software, tools, and technology that interpreters currently utilize in their work. Qualitative and quantitative results demonstrate regular, effective tablet use in various consecutive interpreting settings. Participants feel that these tools meet their needs and outstrip the functionalities offered by pen and paper in most contexts. This study compiles best practices for tablet interpreting, discusses their benefits and challenges, and describes features to consider when assessing new and existing tablets, applications, and styluses. The data underscore the need for training in this budding field, which represents a key area for future research and professional practice.

In this paper, we designed two experiments that can be used to investigate: 1) whether pen-based input operation can be affected by tilt angle of tablet; 2) at which tilt angle of tablet can user do pen-based input operation with comfort, quickness, and accuracy. The experiments include pointing tasks (1-dimensional and 2-dimensional) based on Fitts’ law and stroking tasks (linear and circle) based on Steering law. Each task would be done under 5 kinds of tilt angle of tablet: 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 degrees.

Salah satu mata kuliah penting dalam program studi pendidikan matematika adalah kalkulus diferensial. Salah satu permasalahan pada perkuliahan kalkulus diferensial yaitu rendahnya hasil belajar mahasiswa. Salah satu kendala yang dihadapi adalah sulitnya mahasiswa dalam memahami materi perkuliahan melalui buku teks. Mahasiswa lebih mudah mengerti jika dijelaskan secara lisan. Untuk menjawab permasalahan tersebut, maka penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar alternatif berupa video pembelajaran berbasis pen tablet. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah menghasilkan video pembelajaran kalkulus diferensial yang valid, praktis, dan efektif. Sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian tersebut maka jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa program studi pendidikan matematika Universitas Pasir Pengaraian yang mengambil mata kuliah kalkulus diferensial pada T.A 2020/2021. Tahapan penelitian pengembangan ini mengacu kepada model Plomp yang terdiri dari 3 fase, yaitu: preliminary research, prototyping stage, assessment phase. Instrumen penelitian ini berupa angket yang diisi oleh ahli materi dan ahli media untuk mengukur validitas video, angket yang diisi oleh mahasiswa untuk mengukur praktikalitas video, dan tes tertulis untuk mengukur efektifitas video. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan video pembelajaran kalkulus diferensial berbasis pen tablet dinyatakan valid dengan kriteria sangat baik, praktis dan efektif dengan kriteria baik.

This article is an introductory survey of the frequently encountered pen motif in Baha'i writings. The theological usage of the "pen" is explored along with the Islamic theological and theosophical background of the term. The pen is a metaphor for the pre-existent and creative force presented by the Manifestation of God. The pen-tablet (active-recipient) motif is the used to explore the possible correlation between two theosophocal topics--the "five divine presences" and the seven stages of "coming into being." The creative forces of the pen, undergoing examination, create five distinct realms of existence. These five realms are generated as the pen creates in descending emanation. The pen undergoes the natural order of generation, the seven stages of "coming into being," as each of the divine presences are created.

SummaryThis article reviews the results of an exploratory study on the relationship between the ratings of bradykinesia, obtained by the Schedule for the Assessment of Drug-Induced Movement Disorders (SADIMoD), and the performances on writing and drawing tasks. The pen movements made during these tasks were recorded by means of an electronic digitizing tablet, a special electronic pen and a personal computer. This study was aimed at finding objective parameters for the severity of (antipsychotic-induced) bradykinesia. The results show that the writing tablet device is appropriate at finding movement variables that are related to the clinical ratings for bradykinesia: high scores for bradykinesia involved slowing on a number of duration measures during the execution of the writing and drawing tasks. We were also able to measure (postural) tremor by means of the writing tablet. However, an accelerometer seems to be more appropriate in this respect.

Kebijakan pemerintah yang mengubah pembelajaran tatap muka menjadi daring menuntut kreatifitas dan inovasi guru sehingga hak peserta didik dapat terpenuhi selama proses belajar. Sementara hasil observasi selama pandemi sebagian besar guru menggunakan bahan ajar berupa PPT MS.Word maupun PDF sederhana,sehingga membuat peserta didik merasa bosan karena belum mampu memahami meteri dengan benar tanpa adanya penjelasan dari guru. Fenoma tersebut yang menjadikan motivasi untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran dalam bentuk Video berbasis Pen Tablet. Best practise ini disusun dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan praktek baik dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran jarak jauh meggunakan video pembelajaran berbasis Pen tablet pada materi dimensi tiga di MAN 1 Tuban. Praktek terbaik dilaksanakan pada semester ganjil tahun pelajaran 2021/2022 yaitu bulan Juli sampai Agustus 2021. Karya ilmiah ini mengggambarkan tentang peningkatan kehadiran siswa, nilai rata rata ulangan harian dan respon siswa terhadap video. Adapun subyek penelitian yaitu peserta didik kelas XII IPS dan XII IPA di MAN 1 Tuban Kecamatan Semanding Kabupaten Tuban sebanyak 112 siswa dengan membawa perubahan yang signifikan yaitu kehadiran siswa sebelum menggunakan video mencapai 61.61 %,setelah mengggunakan video berbasis Pen Tablet sebesar 83.92%, sedangkan rata rata nilai ulangan yang dicapai rata rata di atas KKM yaitu 77 dan respon terhadap video sebanyak 138 kali ditonton.

This paper presents handwriting recognition applications developed and tested on the tablet PC – a new generation of notebook computers. Users write on a tablet PC screen with a tablet pen and a built-in user-independent handwriting recognition tool converts handwritings to printed text. We present handwriting recognition applications using the built-in recognition tool and signature verification using our own verification tool based on fuzzy c-means vector quantization (FCMVQ) and observable Markov modeling (OMM). Experimental results for the signature verification system are also presented.

Convertible tablet PCs can use a pen or a mouse for input. The pen is better suited than the mouse for some tasks because of its interaction properties, and research has shown it may ameliorate age-related decrements in performance. This study compared the pen and mouse on a series of realistic tasks for older (55–69) and younger (18–30) adults. Precision tasks were better served by the mouse, while ballistic tasks with strong analogs to real-world actions were served equally well by the pen or the mouse. Older adults were slower than younger adults on both devices, but contrary to the research hypothesis, no benefits were observed specifically for older adults with the pen. This study reinforces findings regarding the importance of task demands when selecting input devices. Younger adults seemed more willing than older adults to embrace the pen.

Symbolic input, including text and numeric input, can be an important user task in applications of virtual environments (VEs). However, very little research has been performed to support this task in immersive VEs. This paper presents the results of an empirical evaluation of four text input techniques for immersive VEs. The techniques include the Pinch Keyboard (a typing emulation technique using pinch gloves), a one-hand chord keyboard, a soft keyboard using a pen & tablet, and speech. The experiment measured both task performance and usability characteristics of the four techniques. Results indicate that the speech technique is the fastest, while the pen & tablet keyboard produces the fewest errors. However, no single technique exhibited high levels of performance, usability and user satisfaction.

Pemantauan kesejahteraan janin (PKJ) sangat penting semasa penjagaan dan kelahiran antenatal. Alat elektronik yang digunakan untuk memantau kesejahteraan janin adalah kardiotokografi (CTG). Melalui CTG, kekerapan dan kebolehubahan kadar denyutan jantung janin (FHR), kontraksi rahim, dan pergerakan janin dapat dipantau pada masa yang sama. Penggunaan media tablet pena menggambar membantu pensyarah ketika menjelaskan cara membaca dan memahami corak rekaman yang digambarkan di atas kertas. Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faedah menggunakan tablet pen lukisan sebagai alat pembelajaran CTG semasa pandemi Covid-19. Kaidah penyelidikan: reka bentuk penyelidikan pra-eksperimen dengan ujian pretest-post satu kumpulan. Sampel kajian ini adalah 58 orang pelajar Program Pengajian Kebidanan D-3 STIKes RSPAD Gatot Soebroto. Data kajian diperoleh menggunakan skor pretest (ujian awal) dan ujian pasca (ujian akhir). Analisis data menggunakan uji beda uji t dengan tahap signifikan 5%. Hasilnya, skor min pada pretest adalah 61.03 dengan sisihan piawai 10.99. Setelah mendapatkan bahan dengan bantuan melukis media tablet pen dan menjalankan praktikum pemantauan kesejahteraan janin, ujian akhir dilakukan, nilai rata-rata adalah 71.03 dengan sisihan piawai 19.84. Perbedaan min antara ujian awal dan akhir adalah 10.345 dengan sisihan piawai 21.416. Hasil ujian statistik memperoleh nilai signifikan 0.001, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara ujian awal dan ujian akhir praktikum pemantauan kesejahteraan janin. Media pembelajaran tablet pena melukis membantu pemahaman dalam pembelajaran CTG.

Aim/Purpose: The present study investigated and compared students’ attention in terms of time-on-task and number of distractors between using a touchscreen and a pen tablet in mathematical problem-solving activities with virtual manipulatives. Background: Although there is an increasing use of these input devices in educational practice, little research has focused on assessing student attention while using touchscreens or pen tablets in a mathematics classroom. Methodology: A qualitative exploration was conducted in a public elementary school in New Taipei, Taiwan. Six fifth-grade students participated in the activities. Video recordings of the activities and the students’ actions were analyzed. Findings: The results showed that students in the activity using touchscreens maintained greater attention and, thus, had more time-on-task and fewer distractors than those in the activity using pen tablets. Recommendations for Practitioners: School teachers could employ touchscreens in mathematics classrooms to support activities that focus on students’ manipulations in relation to the attention paid to the learning content. Recommendation for Researchers: The findings enhance our understanding of the input devices used in educational practice and provide a basis for further research. Impact on Society: The findings may also shed light on the human-technology interaction process involved in using pen and touch technology conditions. Future Research: Activities similar to those reported here should be conducted using more participants. In addition, it is important to understand how students with different levels of mathematics achievement use the devices in the activities.

A large literature shows that survey mode and survey technologies significantly affect item non-response and response distributions. Yet as researchers increasingly conduct surveys in the developing world, little attention has been devoted to understanding how new technologies—such as the use of electronic devices in face-to-face interviews—produce bias there. We hypothesize that using electronic devices instead of pen and paper can affect survey behavior via two pathways: a wealth effect and a surveillance effect. To test the hypotheses, we use data from a two-wave panel survey fielded in Tunisia. We investigate whether responses collected in Wave 1 with pen and paper changed when some individuals were interviewed in Wave 2 by interviewers using tablet computers. Consistent with the wealth effect hypothesis, more than half of the lowest income respondents reported a higher income in the second wave when interviewers used tablets. Conversely, we find little evidence that concerns about surveillance changed survey behavior.

Introduction Children with developmental coordination disorder have significant difficulties with handwriting. Factors such as hand grip strength and pen pressure are often assumed by clinicians to play a role, although empirical evidence is lacking. The aim of this study was to measure grip strength and pen pressure to examine their relationships with handwriting performance in children with developmental coordination disorder. Method Sixteen 8–14-year-old children with developmental coordination disorder were compared with 20 typically developing age- and gender-matched controls. Palmar, pinch and tripod grip strength were measured using hand dynamometers. The mean pressure exerted on a writing tablet by the pen was obtained during a handwriting task. Group comparisons were made and correlations conducted between grip strength and pen pressure and a range of handwriting product and process measures. Results There were no group differences on the three measures of grip strength. However, the developmental coordination disorder group exerted less pressure on the writing surface compared to typically developing peers. There were no significant correlations between grip strength or pen pressure and handwriting performance in children with developmental coordination disorder. Conclusion Clinicians should be cautious when using measures of grip strength or pen pressure to inform them about aspects of handwriting skill in children with developmental coordination disorder.

Handwriting analysis is playing an important role in user authentication or online writer identification for more than a decade. It has a significant role in different applications such as e-security, signature biometrics, e-health, gesture analysis, diagnosis system of Parkinson’s disease, Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders, analysis of vulnerable people (stressed, elderly, or drugged), prediction of gender, handedness and so on. Classical authentication systems are image-based, text-dependent, and password or fingerprint-based where the former one has the risk of information leakage. Alternatively, image processing and pattern-analysis-based systems are vulnerable to camera attributes, camera frames, light effect, and the quality of the image or pattern. Thus, in this paper, we concentrate on real-time and context-free handwriting data analysis for robust user authentication systems using digital pen-tablet sensor data. Most of the state-of-the-art authentication models show suboptimal performance for improper features. This research proposed a robust and efficient user identification system using an optimal feature selection technique based on the features from the sensor’s signal of pen and tablet devices. The proposed system includes more genuine and accurate numerical data which are used for features extraction model based on both the kinematic and statistical features of individual handwritings. Sensor data of digital pen-tablet devices generate high dimensional feature vectors for user identification. However, all the features do not play equal contribution to identify a user. Hence, to find out the optimal features, we utilized a hybrid feature selection model. Extracted features are then fed to the popular machine learning (ML) algorithms to generate a nonlinear classifier through training and testing phases. The experimental result analysis shows that the proposed model achieves more accurate and satisfactory results which ensure the practicality of our system for user identification with low computational cost.

We aimed to explore the online signature modality for characterizing early-stage Alzheimer’s disease (AD). A few studies have explored this modality, whereas many on online handwriting have been published. We focused on the analysis of raw temporal functions acquired by the digitizer on signatures produced during a simulated check-filling task. Sample entropy was exploited to measure the information content in raw time sequences. We show that signatures of early-stage AD patients have lower information content than those of healthy persons, especially in the time sequences of pen pressure and pen altitude angle with respect to the tablet. The combination of entropy values on two signatures for each person was classified with two linear classifiers often used in the literature: support vector machine and linear discriminant analysis. The improvements in sensitivity and specificity were significant with respect to the a priori group probabilities in our population of AD patients and healthy subjects. We show that altitude angle, when combined with pen pressure, conveys crucial information on the wrist-hand-finger system during signature production for pathology detection.

Recent research showed that visual cueing can have both beneficial and detrimental effects on handwriting of patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and healthy controls depending on the circumstances. Hence, using other sensory modalities to deliver cueing or feedback may be a valuable alternative. Therefore, the current study compared the effects of short-term training with either continuous visual cues or intermittent intelligent verbal feedback. Ten PD patients and nine healthy controls were randomly assigned to one of these training modes. To assess transfer of learning, writing performance was assessed in the absence of cueing and feedback on both trained and untrained writing sequences. The feedback pen and a touch-sensitive writing tablet were used for testing. Both training types resulted in improved writing amplitudes for the trained and untrained sequences. In conclusion, these results suggest that the feedback pen is a valuable tool to implement writing training in a tailor-made fashion for people with PD. Future studies should include larger sample sizes and different subgroups of PD for long-term training with the feedback pen.

This paper describes a method for separating online handwritten patterns into Japanese text, figures and mathematical formulas. Today, Tablet PCs and electronic whiteboards provide much larger writing area for pen interfaces unlike PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), through which users can easily input text, write mathematical formulas and draw figures on the screen. The fact that these objects can be written by a single pen (marker) without switching the device, mode, software or whatever else, and without any writing restrictions such as grids or boxes is one of the most important benefits of the pen interfaces. However, the task of segmenting these objects is challenging. To address this issue, we have applied a probabilistic model employing stroke features, stroke crossings and stroke densities. Further, we partially apply the approach of segmentation by recognition. Although the current recognizer for formulas is not a true recognizer, we have achieved about 81% correct segmentation for all the strokes when applied to our newly prepared database of mixed patterns. This method has been compared with a neural-network. The results show that our method is generally better but less effective in distinguishing figures from other components.

Online learning requires students to be more independent in learning. For example, chemistry learning tends to contain abstract concepts (very theoretical), so it requires a more detailed description and explanation. To help solve this problem, we need a media that can make it easier for students to learn during online learning. The purpose of this study was to determine student perceptions or responses to learning using teaching videos. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative, which will produce a description of quantitative data related to student perceptions of the results of the Cronbach Alfa test. The instruments in this study were questionnaires, and learning outcomes test questions. The sample consisted of 102 students. Before being used, video-based learning media with the help of a pen tablet were validated by media and material experts, both in terms of construction and concepts contained in the learning media. The validation results obtained an average value of 0.91 which means it is very valid. Further analysis using reliability showed the Cronbach Alfa coefficients were 0.88, respectively; 0.92; 0.93 consecutively for aspects of knowledge, media and convenience. In order to be accepted by the media as learning media, it is necessary to look at student responses to aspects of knowledge (P) where the average value is 3.96 which is classified as good, media (M) 4.02 and convenience (K) 3.81 are also included in good category.

Factors of graphomotor skills may serve as indicators to determine a writer’s handwriting proficiency or acclimation to different writing surface textures. This study examines differences in children’s graphomotor skills based on types of writing medium and gender. Participants were 97 six-year-old Korean preschool children who had not received formal writing training prior to the study. Writing tasks were completed on a tablet screen and paper. Writing samples were analyzed using the Eye and Pen software to investigate spatial, temporal, and pressure exertion exhibited during the writing tasks. A repeated measures ANOVA revealed differences in graphomotor skills such as print size, writing speed, and writing pressure. Writing on a tablet screen decreased clarity of writing; print size and speed increased as the stylus slides across the tablet surface with relatively less friction, thereby decreasing the exertion of writing pressure. Analysis of writing differences according to gender indicated that boys generated larger print sizes than girls. Results suggest that while simple writing tasks may be feasible on the tablet screen, providing children with a larger writing medium and encouraging larger print sizes for writing practice, especially for boys, may be beneficial in the development of graphomotor skills among young learners.

Methods for entering text on pen-based computers were compared with respect to speed, accuracy, and user preference. Fifteen subjects entered text on a digitizing display tablet using three methods: hand printing, QWERTY-tapping, and ABC-tapping. The tapping methods used display-based keyboards, one with a QWERTY layout, the other with two alphabetic rows of 13 characters. ABC-tapping had the lowest error rate (0.6%) but was the slowest entry method (12.9 wpm). It was also the least preferred input method. The QWERTY-tapping condition was the most preferred, the fastest (22.9 wpm), and had a low error rate (1.1%). Although subjects also liked hand printing, it was 41% slower than QWERTY-tapping and had a very high error rate (8.1%). The results suggest that character recognition on pen-based computers must improve to attract walk-up users, and that alternatives such as tapping on a QWERTY soft keyboard are effective input methods.

Apart from improving husbandry conditions and animal welfare, there is a clear public demand to increase transparency in agricultural activities. Personal farm tours have shown to be appreciated by citizens but are limited in their impact because of hygiene requirements and accessibility. Virtual farm tours are a promising approach to overcome these limitations but evidence on their perceptions is missing. This study analyzes how a virtual farm tour is perceived by showing participants (n = 17) a 360-degree video of a conventional pig fattening pen on a tablet and via virtual reality (VR) glasses. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted to analyze perceptions and level of immersion and to elicit differences between media devices. Participants’ perception of the pig fattening pen was rather poor and depended on the recording perspective as well as on the media device. However, housing conditions were perceived more positively compared to the image participants had in mind prior to the study, and thus the stable was considered as a rather positive example. Participants described virtual farm tours as suitable tool to improve transparency and information transfer and to gain insights into husbandry conditions. They appreciated the comfortable and entertaining character of both media devices and named various possibilities for implementation. However, VR glasses were favored regarding the higher realistic and entertaining value, while the tablet was considered beneficial in terms of usability. The presentation of video sequences without additional explanations about the farm or the housing conditions were claimed insufficient to give an adequate understanding of the seen content.

Patients with dementia of the Alzheimer's type (DAT) and their matched controls wrote, on a computer graphics tablet, 4 consecutive, cursive letter ‘l’s, with varying levels of visual feedback: noninking pen and blank paper so that only the hand movements could be seen, noninking pen and lined paper to constrain their writing, goggles to occlude the lower visual field and eliminate all relevant visual feedback, and inking pen with full vision. The kinematic measures of stroke length, duration, and peak velocity were expressed in terms of consistency via a signal-to-noise ratio (M value of each parameter divided by its SD). Irrespective of medication or severity, DAT patients had writing strokes of significantly less consistent lengths than controls', and were disproportionately impaired by reduced visual feedback. Again irrespective of medication or severity, patients' strokes were of significantly less consistent duration, and significantly less consistent peak velocity than controls', independent of feedback conditions. Patients, unlike controls, frequently perseverated, producing more than 4 ‘l’s, or multiple sets of responses, which was not differentially affected by level of visual feedback. The more variable performance of patients supports a degradation of the base motor program, and resembles that of Huntington's rather than Parkinson's disease patients.
