According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), sustainable tourism is defined: "as tourism that fully takes into account current and future economic, social and environmental effects, addressing the needs of visitors, sectors, the environment and destinations". It is well known that halal tourism occupies an increasingly important place in the overall tourist traffic, while on the other hand, increasing attention in the world is paid to sustainable tourism. In this paper, we analyze the development of halal tourism and sustainable tourism, their similarities and differences, ie does sustainable tourism also mean halal tourism. Halal tourism is a tourist offer primarily intended for muslims, in which at least two conditions must be met, namely the possibility of performing prayers and halal food.

Tourism has become a source of activities that generate income, employment, and economic growth for the countries belonging to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Mechanism (APEC). This article analyzes tourism as a regional economic activity that interacts with the environment, causing positive effects such as the improvement of economic competitiveness; and negative effects, such as tourism overcrowding and degradation of the sites where it is applied. Thus, poor management can destroy the tourism asset on which the activity depends and its future local, regional and global economic-tourist competitiveness.

In the recent years, the rapid growth of the tourism industry has risen to prominence as a global concern. Tourism empowers communities and uplifts the economy. However, it poses social and environmental challenges, which in turn draws attention to tourism patterns. Sustainable tourism promises protection of the environment and the social-cultural elements of any given destination. Hence, this study aims to understand the complex relationship between sustainability policy, management, and tourist behavior. Thus, we examined the relationships between sustainable tourism policy and destination management, destination social responsibility, and tourist value orientation with sustainable tourism development. We recruited participants at managerial level coming from 163 Malaysian companies and conducted a cross-sectional quantitative study, using partial least square structural equation modeling. We propose that sustainable tourism policy and destination management and destination social responsibility significantly impact sustainable tourism development. Moreover, destination social responsibility partially mediates the relationship between sustainable tourism policy destination management and sustainable tourism development.

Even though the World Tourism Organization described Sustainable Tourism as a tourism form that could contribute to the future survival of the industry, the current reality is quite different, since it has not been firmly established in society at expected levels. The present study analyzes which variables drive the consumption of this tourism type, taking tourist awareness as the key element. To this awareness, we must add the current crisis experienced by the tourism industry caused by COVID-19, since it can benefit Sustainable Tourism development, promoting less crowded destinations that favor social distancing. For this, the existing literature on Sustainable Tourism has been examined in order to create a model that highlights the relations among these variables. To determine the meaning of these relations, a sample of 308 tourists was analyzed through structural equation models using Partial Least Squares. The results show that there is a clear attitude on the part of the tourist to develop Sustainable Tourism, driven by the positive effects and motivation it entails, as well as the satisfaction the tourist perceives when consuming a responsible tourism type.

In recent years, the problem of inadequate concretization of the paradigm of sustainable tourism, its low operationalization and instrumentalization in the context of tourist systems management at various levels has become widely recognized. The publication focuses on the systematization of the perspectives and effects of sustainable tourism management – with a major purpose of demonstrating their extremely wide practical importance in developing strategic managerial solutions in the tourism industry. The article summarizes more than fifty basic specific perspectives (problems) of sustainable tourism, which it is expedient to systematize and structure in the context of strategic management of tourist systems. As a first discussion option, this publication proposes a classification-grouping of sustainable tourism management applications, structured around four groups of perspectives: 1. macro- and meso-economic, 2. institutional, 3. socio-cultural and environmental, 4. microeconomic perspectives. As an important addition, the study suggests a generalization of the main effects in the field of sustainable tourism, which should be taken into account in the development of tourist systems. Further, some explanations are given regarding the specifics of some of the central and most problematic managerial aspects of sustainable tourism in the context of the Russian tourism and hospitality industry development. The publication also touches upon the issues of further incorporation of sustainable tourism's managerial applications into strategic decision-making, outlining the main promising scientific and practical areas. In addition, the article argues that through the sustainability paradigm unique advantages and high competitiveness of tourism systems can be achieved and ensured in the most accurate and precise way.

AbstractIntroduction. City tourism is one of the most frequently chosen forms of tourism consisting of many motives for doing it. On the modern tourist market, there are many negative phenomena that significantly affect the functioning of urban tourist destinations but primarily have an impact on the decisions of potential tourists about choosing cities as a tourist destination. These phenomena pose a threat to the development of both cities and tourism. They are conditioned by endogenous factors, which result from the functioning of the city, and exogenous ones, i.e. those related to socio-economic relations of the city with the environment, including tourist traffic. Cities, as a destination or transit tourist destination, are characterized by high concentration of tourist traffic; hence, the negative phenomena often affect urban tourist space with great intensity. The aim of the study is to present the author’s concept of sustainable urban tourism policy assumptions. After presenting the concept of sustainable urban tourism development policy, the following issues will be discussed: basics of tourism policy, urban tourism, sustainable tourism, classification of threats related to the sustainable development of urban tourism.Material and methods. The study is of theoretical and conceptual nature. The following research methods will be used: critical analysis of the literature and methods of logical operations.Results. The effect of the considerations is to propose the assumptions of the concept of sustainable urban tourism development policy.Conclusions. The most important problems related to the functioning of sustainable tourism were indicated, taking into account the impact of tourism on the natural environment and on overtourism.

The city of Bou Sa?da is one of the Algerian cities that have diverse tourism resources, but it has not been adopted as a premier tourist spot nor has it benefited from the tourism programs established within the national strategy for sustainable tourism development for Horizons 2030, which made the tourism weak compared to other Algerian regions that have similar tourism elements. This study aims to evaluate the existing tourism strategy to address the shortcomings and provide solutions by focusing on four variables: tourist destination, tourism industry, the tourist market, and actors in tourism. We have relied on the following techniques: SWOT analysis to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the tourism sector in Bou Sa?da, MCDA Analysis using AHP for spatial planning for the future tourism industry, and a questionnaire form distributed to the residents, the tourists and the experts to take their suggestions and use them in guiding the tourism planning process. The results of the study proved that there is a weakness in the tourism planning process in the city of Bou Sa?da, which negatively affects the tourism traffic, that is still weak compared to the qualifications it has, which if exploited according to a wellthought-out strategy, the city will become a targeted tourist destination.

PurposeThis paper questions the present state of the world's tourism industry and advocates the need for an approach where quality assumes greater importance than quantity.Design/methodology/approachThis paper provides an analysis of the tourism industry's recent evolution while trying to identify reasons for its decline which amongst others, include security issues and economic crisis.FindingsIn developing a sustainable tourism industry especially in these economically challenging times, we must learn to appreciate what is precious in our own lives and in our respective communities. This in turn will help us maintain and further explore the uniqueness of our tourist destinations. The greatest threat to leisure and tourism (and to a lesser extent to business travel) is the fact that travel has lost a good deal of its romance and enchantment due to a global approach to its development. In the rush for efficiency and quantitative analysis the travel and tourism industry may have forgotten that each traveller has unique expectations.Originality/valueSustainable tourism is not only about how a tourist location adapts but also about what a city or destination accomplishes when re-discovering its inner essence and then promoting it.

Nowadays tourism has become a very important element of modern life and culture and a significant factor of economical growth. In this article the problem of ecotourism in Poland is presented along with its perspectives of development and the conflicts which occur when it is practised on the large scale. This article presents areas mostly affected by the negative changes during the excessive practice of tourism e.g. seaside areas, high mountains, river banks, forests, caves, national parks, nature reserves. When one particular area becomes a national or scenic park, nature reserve or Natura 200 Area, it immediately attracts increased tourist traffic. All the forms of environmental protection are the most valuable locations to practice ecotourism. The least conflictual form of tourism is ecotourism = sustainable tourism. Key words: forms of environmental protection, ecological education, ecotourism, sustainable tourism.

Sustainability of tourism destinations has become the main focus in planning and managing tourism development. Despite existing legislation and an institutional framework to safeguard balanced tourism growth, many destinations fail to properly address it. So far, studies are limited in exploring sustainable tourism impacts from a policy perspective. This study follows previous ones in using the triple bottom line sustainability approach to define tourism impacts. It argues, in particular, for a nexus between understanding of policy perception and sustainability, and it applies this to tourist destinations in Serbia to determine whether they are operating sustainably. For this purpose, the data were collected using a combination of multiple methods, involving interviews with policymakers and content analysis of strategic documents. This study further suggests a model that assesses the extent of the sustainability of tourist destinations. The results illustrate the importance of understanding policy perceptions in shaping and facilitating sustainability and informing policy enablers on how to improve and reform current tourism development. The model can be adopted and applied to any tourist destination facing an inevitable need to re-shape their tourism development plans and policies, while the implications address the need to build a participative policy approach to sustainable tourism development.

Indonesia has the potential of natural resources for tourism development. One of the natural resources that the government continues to develop in Indonesia is the Lake Toba tourist attraction. The level of tourism visits at Lake Toba tourist destinations in Indonesia in recent years is low. Policies designed to provide a socially inclusive and ecologically sound tourism framework are weak in encouraging local wisdom-based tourism in the tourist destinations of Lake Toba, North Sumatera, Indonesia. Local wisdom-based government policies are essential and strategic because they can trigger an increase in the quality of tourism in Lake Toba. Government regulations and policies that show concern for local wisdom for the Lake Toba area in North Sumatera, Indonesia, can support and guide community involvement. The results of this research can help evaluate policy documents at other well-known tourist destinations.

Introduction. The impact of globalization and convergence on the rapprochement of nations leads to an increase in the tourism role through strengthening human needs for socialization in today's information society. The underutilization of the domestic potential of the tourism industry necessitates its exploration to formulate directions for further development and growth. The purpose of the study is further development of the theoretical basis and conditions for the sustainable develop-ment of the tourism sector in the region. Results. The key issues of constant coordination and harmonization of human relations and environment are identi-fied in the context of sustainable tourism development by vectors of time and space. The alternative absence of sustainable tourism development paradigm has been proved. The concept of «sustainable development» is given. It is suggested to un-derstand the sustainable development of tourism as a development that can fully meet the needs of tourists in the present time, taking into account the interests of the tourist destination in expanding the reproduction of their own resource potential in the future. The determinants, criteria and general principles of the sustainable tourism development concept are defined. The interrelation of the criterion with the following components is justified: «availability – quality – safety» – their essence is disclosed. The role of tourism as a component of sustainable regional development is revealed. The types of sustainability that are inherent in tourism scenarios have been described. The basis of urgent problems of tourist development and recreational sphere of the region is monitored. The changes to tourism legislation developed by the Ministry of Economic Development has been considered. The re-sults of the tourist industry analysis of Ukraine by individual types are given. The low attractiveness of Ukraine as a tourist center has been proved, where the main reason is underdeveloped infrastructure, which requires considerable investment. The directions of development of individual segments of tourism are determined. The ways of brand developing of Ukraine as a tourist destination are considered. Keywords: sustainable development, tourism, tourist product, tourist industry, tourist region, tourist sphere, tourist services market.

The high potential of tourist and recreational resources is not yet a guarantee of tourism successful development, whereas it requires searching and implementing of the new and effective modern forms of entrepreneurial potential fulfillment in the tourist area. To form a competitive tourism market, it is necessary to ensure a number of tourism industry components which would enhance the quality of tourist services provision and satisfy all the needs of tourist services consumers. The purpose of the article is the studying of the tourism industry functioning in the Russian Federation. To achieve this purpose, it is necessary to consider a number of objectives: to determine the mechanism of the tourism market functioning; to perform the analysis of the tourism market development by the regions of the Russian Federation; to identify the prerequisites of the current tourism industry state in Russia; to propose the recommendations for tourism industry regulation. Dialectical method of scientific cognition was applied during studying the role and influence of tourism on the economy development, the calculation and analytical methods of observation, measurement, analysis and comparison of indices characterizing the tourism industry in the Russian Federation. The regulation of the tourist regional market with the help of special economic zones allows creating conditions for attracting investments to the economy of the region, raising of living standards, reducing unemployment, etc. The current tourism industry state of the Russian Federation was studied. The dynamic pattern of socio-economic indicators of the tourism industry is reflected. The mechanism of the tourism market functioning is presented here. The impact of tourism on the local community and environment has raised the concern of the sustainability of tourist destinations. Therefore, in the year 1998, the World Tourism Organization (WTO) [1] enriched the concept of sustainable tourism by defining it as “tourism development that can meet the demand of both tourists and host communities while preserving, and improving the opportunity for future development”. This paper tends to explore the current condition of sustainable tourism in Bihar. Primary data are collected from the ten major tourist destinations of the state, i.e., Patna, Gaya, Bodhgaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, Raxaul, Munger, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, and Bhagalpur. The finding of this paper supports that sustainable practices at tourist places of Bihar are not significantly full fill the tourist expectations. Also, most people think that the state government is not taking the necessary steps and initiatives for the sustainable development of tourism in Bihar. This research paper’s findings help tourism stakeholders understand the current conditions of sustainable tourism in the state and help them reframe their policies and strategies for the overall development of the tourism sector.

This study aims to analyze volunteer tourist satisfaction and host community perceptions and design a sustainable volunteer tourism management model. This research includes qualitative research using mixed analysis methods. The data consists of primary and secondary data from Afo Tour and Travel North Maluku, Volunteer Tourists, and the host community in 2018, 2019 and 2021. The study found that volunteer tourism provides satisfaction for tourists and host communities. The most dominant factors providing satisfaction are Nature Tourism, Marine tourism and Shark feeding attractions, Knowledge transfer, Outbound and Culinary. Tourist satisfaction has an impact on loyalty to volunteer tourists. Volunteer tourism managers must implement a “two-sided satisfaction model” that emphasizes the satisfaction of tourists and host communities as the key to achieving the sustainability of volunteer tourism.

Abstract Tourism development using social media or policy-makers favor Instagrammable Tourism due to its assumed effects on destination image, social and infrastructure developments, and economic benefits. However, the dynamics of making a tourism destination instagrammable sometimes bring up conditions that ignore the aspects of sustainable environmental management. Tourism business actors who process natural lands into artificial instagrammable tourist attractions and consumer behavior that damages the aesthetic value of tourist destinations are few operational examples of outcomes caused by local policies related to instagrammable tourism. This paper aims to present the description and implementation of local government policies in instagrammable tourism management from two different areas of Kaliurang in Sleman regency and Tawangmangu in Karanganyar Regency. Data in local tourism development policy, spatial plans, and land use in tourist destinations were analyzed using descriptive qualitative, descriptive statistics, and policy analysis methods. The analysis results show that the two tourist areas have been regulated and managed based on local regulations. The local regulation interpretations can be seen in the different directions of the two tourism area developments. The different emphasis on the orientations of tourism area managements bear implications on implementing a sustainable environmental management concept.

Tourism authorities in Thailand have consistently pursued profit-seeking mass tourism, resulting in the detriment of the natural resources in major tourist destinations. In response, sustainable tourism projects centered on preserving the environment have been established but neglect the financial needs of tour operators. The objective of this study was to investigate the determinants of tourist expenditure per capita in Thailand using a dataset consisting of 31 countries from 2010 to 2017. The analysis was based on an autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL) and used a panel estimated generalized least square (ELGS). Generating such knowledge is essential for tourist authorities to develop profitable and sustainable tourism projects in tourist destinations whose natural resources have been affected by profit-seeking tourism. The tourism expenditure per capita is positively affected by word of mouth, income, and the rising prices in other major tourist destinations in Asia. However, it was negatively affected by relative levels of price and corruption. Sustainable tourism projects can be used to develop activities that will help distinguish Thailand from other tourism destinations in Asia. However, in implementing these sustainable tourism initiatives, the mark-up should be minimized to keep tourist prices in Thailand competitive.

Cultural Tourism offers a strong motivation to preserve the elements of cultural heritage in tourist destinations. It helps to preserve cultural elements as important tourist attractions. Cultural tourism’s notion is unlimited to visiting monumental attractions only, but it has also become an interactive experience with the social fabric of the community through attending exhibitions, festivals and events, and the purchase of traditional local products. Thus, the human capital factor in tourism is linked to the quality of tourism products. With the growth of international tourism, the importance of sustainable tourism development has emerged to protect natural, cultural, and human resources, in addition to achieving economic development. As non-sustainable tourism development has led to the deterioration of tourism resources. This research paper examines if cultural tourism contributes to decrease tourism seasonality and achieve sustainable tourism development in cultural heritage sites. A case study of Aswan was selected. Aswan has unique and important elements of cultural heritage (Tangible and Intangible), but it still faces many problems like tourism seasonality, besides its tourism is still weak compared with other cities that have the same tourism potential. Based on a literature review and analytical study of global examples that achieved sustainability in cultural heritage sites, a field study of Aswan was conducted to evaluate the current status of cultural tourism, besides illustrating the challenges of achieving sustainability. The major result that has emerged from the study is paying attention to cultural tourism is the possible solution to the challenges that Aswan tourism faces. Finally, the paper concluded that investment in human capital creates opportunities for cultural tourism which in return resolves one of tourism’s major challenges: seasonality.

In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the effects of tourism and related developments upon the environment of ‘destination areas’. The increasing popularity of the concept of sustainable development has resulted in tourism being viewed as an activity which could easily be developed along those appropriate lines. It is argued, however, that such a viewpoint is often simplistic and naïve, because of a lack of understanding of the complex nature of tourism. While tourism is dependent upon the environment for much of its well-being, the prevailing lack of knowledge, responsibility, and long-term planning, has often resulted in development which is neither environmentally nor culturally sympathetic to the host area and community.A broad definition of environment is necessary in this context, encompassing both the physical and human realms and also Nature's, as is an equally wide view of human leisure activities, which needs to include far more than tourism. It is necessary to take a critical view of some alternative approaches to mass-tourism, which have been suggested as appropriate for environmentally significant areas; for at least some of the problems resulting from tourism-related developments are more profound, and less easily solved, than has often been suggested. Solutions are inevitably a combination of compromise and positive planning and management, and successful examples are difficult to find. Improved understanding of the complex nature of tourism, and of its linkages to the environment, is crucial if a symbiotic relationship is to be attained and maintained. It is necessary to appreciate that tourist destination areas evolve and change over time, both responding to, and being altered by, changes in tourism. They are not static environments, and need responsible and pro-active planning and management. Reliance upon local initiatives, uncoordinated planning, and self-regulation in a situation of ill-defined responsibility, will not result in a secure long-term future for either the tourist industry or the environment of the destination area. Coordination of policies, pro-active planning, acceptance of limitations on growth, education of all parties involved, and commitment to a long-term viewpoint, are prerequisites to the successful linking of tourism and sustainable development.

The increasing complexity of tourism and sustainability offers opportunities and challenges among diverse stakeholder perspectives. The need for sustainable and nature-based approaches exists throughout the growing body of literature from among a number of dimensions and measures. One of the overarching goals of the paper is to examine whether tourists will choose a destination or hotel that is actively working to improve the environment while examining how Hawaii’s tourism is nature-based as well as other measures of sustainability while enjoying a slice of paradise in the Hawaiian Islands. This study explores tourism sustainability concerns in Hawaii, such as the influence of the tourist sector on the environment and will address if Hawaii should be recognized as a sustainable tourism destination. A survey instrument was developed where 454 respondents participated. According to the findings of this research, tourists visiting Hawaii support environmentally sustainable tourism practices leading towards a more sustainable tourist destination.

Tourism has always been a vulnerable industry. Minimal disturbances can halt or even destroy tourism and its associated economy. There is no dearth of research on vulnerability and resilience of the tourism industry for various tourism destinations,, and on post-disaster studies, but mainly these were limited to a city or tourist destination and focused on the destination image recovery. The primary purpose of this study is to identify different tourism stages and the local community’s issues and desires associated with each stage and to propose strategies that can be used during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The district-wise monthly domestic and foreign tourist arrival data from 2008 to 2018 for Himachal Pradesh (HP) were observed. The observations reveal that HP experiences overtourism, balanced tourism, and undertourism. Two hundred seven telephonic interviews were conducted with different stakeholders such as tourism department officers, urban planners, hotel owners and managers, environmentalists, and state residents. Research themes were identified based on the interview responses, and these themes were further validated using a review of newspaper reports and court and local administration order. This study identified nine broad problems and patterns associated with tourism and proposes 17 sustainable tourism strategies that the post-COVID-19 crisis can follow. The proposed strategies give special attention to confidence-building of tourist and residents, image building of the location, and increasing tourism number sustainably and tourism earning of the state. This study investigates problems and suggests sustainable strategies for a state in India for the first time and may be used for policy decision and regional sustainable tourism development plan.

The article observes the relevance and substantiates the need to raise the problem of tourism development in the countries of the Black Sea region (Turkey, Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Georgia, Romania and Bulgaria) on the basis of sustainability. Systematization of approaches to the definition of «sustainable development of tourism», «sustainable tourism» and «tourism constancy» has conditioned the elaboration of a sustainable tourism development model, the elements of which are the needs of tourists, tourism resources, tourism services, types of tourism, tourism activities, subjects - tourist, tourist enterprise, destinations and the state (management). It was determined that the achievement of sustainable tourism development in the country should be evaluated from the standpoint of meeting the needs of tourists and considering the factors such as security, sustainable tourism services, economic and environmental sustainability, socio-cultural sustainability, the country’s basic sustainaility and political and regulatory constancy. During the study, the needs of the tourist were identified (cognition, recognition and his acceptance of the cultural, historical, national heritage of the destination, the development of spiritual potential and self-development), which act as a driving force for the growth of demand for sustainable types of tourism. It was found that satisfying the physiological needs of a tourist, his staying in a safe environment, confirming his social, professional, family status is associated with mass tourism, and does not fully contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals. It is determined that the development of tourism in the Black Sea countries is characterized by a high loading on tourist facilities and irregular tourist flows, the irrational use of natural resources, and the continuous expansion of infrastructure that allows only fragmentary observance of the principles of sustainable development . To assess the sustainability of tourism in the countries of the region, we used the author’s methodology for ranking the factors of the tourism sustainability index. Calculations demonstrated that the most important factors for tourists in the Black Sea region are the factor of safety, tourism services and the basic state of stability of the country, which is based on the level of food technology usage; the presence of harmful industries in the country; unemployment rate in the country; the importance of tradition in everyday life; international openness safety factors, tourist services and the basic condition of stability of the country. Environmental sustainability and a sociocultural strategy have a moderate impact. In the ranking of the countries of the Black Sea region according to the calculated tourism sustainability index, Georgia took the first place, and Ukraine received the lowest indicator. By the method of cluster analysis, the countries of the Black Sea region were combined into three clusters. The first cluster was formed by Turkey - a country that has a developed system of mass tourism and actively contributes to its reorientation continuously. The second cluster includes Bulgaria, Romania and Georgia, which combine the processes of active development of traditional and sustainable tourism. In the third cluster, which includes Russia and Ukraine, the development of tourism on the principles of sustainability practically does not occur.

The study identified the main problems limiting and inhibitory management processes, as well as the main directions of work for the sustainable development of tourist destinations, which should be in focus of legal regulation of tourism development in the country and in the regions. The research results can be used by tourism authorities at the federal, regional and municipal levels for the formation of effective management stratgy, investment policy and the territorial system of marketing tourist destinations. The results of the expert survey can become a base for research and be used in the educational process. For the successful implementation of sustainable tourism development principles at all levels (federal, regional, municipal) the management and investment models should be clearly elaborated and business process algorithms for project management of sustainable development of tourist destinations and their promotion on the market should be created. All parties need to clearly understand and respect the interests of the subjects of relations, and in this case they need to have a common goal – an effective sustainable development.

Sustainable tourism has become a key priority in the strategic plans for tourism development in order to attain sociocultural development and environmental preservation. This paper examines opportunities for the advancement of sustainable tourism by encouraging tourists to consider sustainability and to include sustainable options in their tourist practices. The paper adopts a practice-based approach for the understanding of tourist behavior as a series of practices tourists perform for the development of valuable experiences, usually with the support of services offered by tourist organizations and service providers. Sustainability is an option for tourists that needs to be offered, promoted, and supported when they decide on their practices and the way they will perform them. Hence, sustainability is an option that needs to be designed so that tourists are enabled and motivated to adopt sustainable tourist practices. The paper proposes the sustainable tourist journey as an approach for the analysis and design of sustainable tourist practices that is based on the holistic scope of the consumer journey. The paper contributes to the advancement of sustainable tourism by introducing and improving the understanding of sustainability concerns in tourist practices. The paper discusses also how digital technologies can support the design of sustainable tourist practices.

This study analyses the actual condition of a tourism village from a sustainable tourism perspective. There is limited study on the implementation of sustainable tourism in tourism villages. This study aims to 1) identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in implementing sustainable tourism; 2) analyse the steps or efforts in achieving sustainable tourism villages. Qualitative research has guided the researchers in collecting data in Paccekke Village, Barru Regency, in 2021. The results reveal supporting and inhibiting factors for implementing sustainable tourism villages. The supporting factors are the natural and cultural potential of the village; sustainable natural conditional; positive attitude of the community towards tourism and the culture of collaborative work (gotong royong); the existence of cultural events; and commitment of local stakeholders. The inhibiting factors are limited facilities and infrastructure, weak planning in the tourism sector, extreme accessibility; weak internet network; and the low awareness and ability of the community in managing tourism potential. This study recommends the importance of utilising the existence of tourist villages in the Barru Regency as a whole in order to improve the quality of tourist visits. Utilising social media as a promotional tool, anticipating the impact of massive visits on environmental quality, and collaborating with various stakeholders for community involvement are strategies to implement sustainable tourism villages. This study provides an overview of the factual conditions of a village, not only from a positive perspective but also obstacles that require solutions or strategies for a sustainable tourism village.

Tourism is an important base of the country's socio-economic and cultural development. Tourism development strategies involve factors that the society applies to make the best use of its benefits or neutralize the problems it creates in their economies. As every economic subject aims at achieving effectiveness and efficiency, tourism management is tasked with responding to current challenges, and connecting service providers to users so as to achieve mutual satisfaction. Decision-making in tourism is particularly complex when events (cultural, sports…) are held in protected areas and national parks, which attract tourists the most. Since the capacities of a tourist destination often do not meet the needs of constant, accelerated growth of the number of visitors, sustainable development becomes a professional challenge for tourism destination management, and it is often a source of problems for tour operators or governments. A lack of resources, pollution, security, numerous risks…, are some of the factors that may reduce tourism profits or contribute to losses. This paper explores certain aspects of strategies that can bring benefits for visitors, organizers and the society as a whole, in accordance with the achieved level of overall economic, social and cultural development. The paper also points out the concerns, problems, codes and strategies that affect the final product, as an aspect of engagement in the quality management process in tourism.
