Повний текст джерелаAlthough surfing officially made its debut in France in 1956 on the Basque coast, its culture was not put into narrative form and disseminated by the media until 1986, when the first French surfing magazine, Surf Session, was created. Fascinated in their youth by these men from across the Atlantic who played with the waves and brought with them a new, liberated lifestyle, two men decided to create a French surfing magazine in March 1986. Surfing was booming at the time: surfwear brands were establishing themselves along the Aquitaine coast, national and international competitions were multiplying, as were clubs, whose development the magazine supported.As a privileged vector of surfing culture, this medium is both an archive and a means of promoting a new, sometimes counter-cultural sport and its social activities. A semio-historical analysis of the statements and visibilities contained in the issues over a period of thirty-eight years brings to light a Homeric vision of the practice in the form of an epic, first Illiadesque, then Odyssean, summoning ancient symbols and myths to create new ones. It contributes to inscribing the sport in the collective psyche through representations which this work proposes to deconstrcut by questioning its

Повний текст джерелаRecently, search engines have become the main source of information for many users and have been widely used in different fields. However, Information Retrieval Systems (IRS) face new challenges due to the growth and diversity of available data. An IRS analyses the query submitted by the user and explores collections of data with unstructured or semi-structured nature (e.g. text, image, video, Web page etc.) in order to deliver items that best match his/her intent and interests. In order to achieve this goal, we have moved from considering the query-document matching to consider the user context. In fact, the user profile has been considered, in the literature, as the most important contextual element which can improve the accuracy of the search. It is integrated in the process of information retrieval in order to improve the user experience while searching for specific information. As time factor has gained increasing importance in recent years, the temporal dynamics are introduced to study the user profile evolution that consists mainly in capturing the changes of the user behavior, interests and preferences, and updating the profile accordingly. Prior work used to discern short-term and long-term profiles. The first profile type is limited to interests related to the user's current activities while the second one represents user's persisting interests extracted from his prior activities excluding the current ones. However, for users who are not very active, the short-term profile can eliminate relevant results which are more related to their personal interests. This is because their activities are few and separated over time. For users who are very active, the aggregation of recent activities without ignoring the old interests would be very interesting because this kind of profile is usually changing over time. Unlike those approaches, we propose, in this thesis, a generic time-sensitive user profile that is implicitly constructed as a vector of weighted terms in order to find a trade-off by unifying both current and recurrent interests. User profile information can be extracted from multiple sources. Among the most promising ones, we propose to use, on the one hand, searching history. Data from searching history can be extracted implicitly without any effort from the user and includes issued queries, their corresponding results, reformulated queries and click-through data that has relevance feedback potential. On the other hand, the popularity of Social Media makes it as an invaluable source of data used by users to express, share and mark as favorite the content that interests them

Повний текст джерелаThe understanding of evaporating sessile droplet dynamics on a heating substrate is still an open question although many applications are related to this problem like in paintings or nuclear industries. Due to the complexity of the phenomena involved in such a system we developed a numerical code allowing us to simulate the evaporation dynamics of pure Newtonian fluids. Heat and matter exchanges are fully described in both the fluid of the droplet and in the surrounding air with basic hydro dynamical models. This makes possible to demonstrate the non linear character of the droplet volume evolution as time goes on. The study of the fluid flows inside the droplet shows convective phenomena that are due to the shear generated by thermal Marangoni stress at its liquid/gas interface. The rotation direction of the convective cells is shown to depend on the heating substrate size whereas their characteristic velocity is determined by temperature gradients between droplet and far field

Повний текст джерелаThe thesis focuses on design studio pedagogy in schools of architecture. In the design studios, students learn how to design and think architecturally. The studio is the cornerstone of architectural education. The weekly critiques are moments where tutors and students can discuss design issues. During the critiques, students have the opportunity to get an expert’s feedback on their design. Designing is both the learning objective and the way to learn in design critiques. We coined this activity a mentored reflective practice. Design representations brought by students support the mentored reflective practice during the critique. Those design representations are named representational ecosystem. This research work focus on the effect of a change in the representational ecosystem on the mentored reflective practice. We analyzed four different representational’ ecosystems : traditional desk critiques composed of plans, sections and mock-ups; large-scale mock-up; Hyve-3D and Digital Collaborative Studio. We exploited the video protocol analysis methodology to study participants' engagement during the critique, their collaboration, and how they interact with design representations depending on the representational ecosystem used. Based on these results, we develop a pedagogic scenario integrating CORAULIS, Ensa Nantes' new immersive platform

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis investigates challenges of sequence prediction in different scenarios such as sequence prediction using recurrent neural networks (RNNs) in the context of time series and information retrieval (IR) search sessions. Predicting the unknown values that follow some previously observed values is basically called sequence prediction.It is widely applicable to many domains where a sequential behavior is observed in the data. In this study, we focus on two different types of sequence prediction tasks: time series forecasting and next query prediction in an information retrieval search session.Time series often display pseudo-periods, i.e. time intervals with strong correlation between values of time series. Seasonal changes in weather time series or electricity usage at day and night time are some examples of pseudo-periods. In a forecasting scenario, pseudo-periods correspond to the difference between the positions of the output being predicted and specific inputs.In order to capture periods in RNNs, one needs a memory of the input sequence. Sequence-to-sequence RNNs (with attention mechanism) reuse specific (representations of) input values to predict output values. Sequence-to-sequence RNNs with an attention mechanism seem to be adequate for capturing periods. In this manner, we first explore the capability of an attention mechanism in that context. However, according to our initial analysis, a standard attention mechanism did not perform well to capture the periods. Therefore, we propose a period-aware content-based attention RNN model. This model is an extension of state-of-the-art sequence-to-sequence RNNs with attention mechanism and it is aimed to capture the periods in time series with or without missing values.Our experimental results with period-aware content-based attention RNNs show significant improvement on univariate and multivariate time series forecasting performance on several publicly available data sets.Another challenge in sequence prediction is the next query prediction. The next query prediction helps users to disambiguate their search query, to explore different aspects of the information they need or to form a precise and succint query that leads to higher retrieval performance. A search session is dynamic, and the information need of a user might change over a search session as a result of the search interactions. Furthermore, interactions of a user with a search engine influence the user's query reformulations. Considering this influence on the query formulations, we first analyze where the next query words come from? Using the analysis of the sources of query words, we propose two next query prediction approaches: a set view and a sequence view.The set view adapts a bag-of-words approach using a novel feature set defined based on the sources of next query words analysis. Here, the next query is predicted using learning to rank. The sequence view extends a hierarchical RNN model by considering the sources of next query words in the prediction. The sources of next query words are incorporated by using an attention mechanism on the interaction words. We have observed using sequence approach, a natural formulation of the problem, and exploiting all sources of evidence lead to better next query prediction

Nous renforcons les mécanismes de sécurité existants en apportant des contributions sur trois axes : Une approche basée sur des mécanismes d'apprentissage pour le monitorage de trafic de signalisation VoIP, un pot de miel spécifique, et un modèle de corrélation des évenements pour la détection d'intrusion. Pour l'évaluation de nos solutions, nous avons développés des agents VoIP distribués et gérés par une entité centrale. Nous avons développé un outil d'analyse des traces réseaux de la signalisation que nous avons utilisé pour expérimenter avec des traces de monde réel. Enfin, nous avons implanté un prototype de détection d'intrusion basé sur des règles de corrélation des événements.

Повний текст джерелаVoice over IP (VoIP) has become a major paradigm for providing flexible telecommunication services and reducing operational costs. The large-scale deployment of VoIP has been leveraged by the high-speed broadband access to the Internet and the standardization of dedicated protocols. However, VoIP faces multiple security issues including vulnerabilities inherited from the IP layer as well as specific ones. Our objective is to design, implement and validate new models and architectures for performing proactive defense, monitoring and intrusion detection in VoIP networks. Our work combines two domains: network security and artificial intelligence. We reinforce existent security mechanisms by working on three axes: a machine learning approach for VoIP signaling traffic monitoring, a VoIP specific honeypot and a security event correlation model for intrusion detection. In order to experiment our solutions, we have developed VoIP agents which are distributed and managed by a central entity. We have developed an analyzer of signaling network traces and we used it to analyze real-world traces. Finally, we have implemented a prototype of a rule-based event-driven intrusion detection system

Повний текст джерелаThis research allows us to compare the biomass composition in nitrogenous and carbon compounds in three forest tree species. C contents (g / kg biomass) are stable whatever the species and age. N contents (g / kg biomass) are 10 times more in young trees, whatever the species. It has important links between N content and age. The C/N ratio is almost 10 times less in young trees, due to their content of total nitrogen. Stocks for a given age are comparable between species. Starch contributes to total carbon in a more important fraction in young trees: 50 % against 8 % in adult trees. Starch concentration in Quercus robur is more elevated in comparison with Quercus petraea and Fagus sylvatica. This comparison of species, in both youth and adult ages, allowed the evidence of different physiological mechanisms, linked to phenology. This research concerned the characterization of carbon and nitrogenous reserves by difference of present quantities at tree level in two dates corresponding to important phenologic stages. We used the 15N labelling, which allowed partitioning of nitrogen neo-assimilated to nitrogen coming from reserves remobilisation, in young trees defoliated and in different light conditions. Carbon and nitrogen remobilisation of reserves seems to be not synchronous and differed among species: oak renew only 10% of its nitrogen while beech renew 20%. We have characterized a 25kDa polypeptide in the trunk sapwood of Quercus robur, this polypeptide presents all characteristics of a Vegetative Storage Protein (VSP). Повний текст джерелаIn the context of sustainable development which has seen the introduction of the biocides directive BPD 98/8/CE in the EU, innovative wood preservation practices such as Heat Treatment (HT) become relevant. Wood HT, also termed wood thermal modification, is a physical modification technology by which wood is heated at around 200 °C in an inert atmosphere. The main purpose of the treatment is to improve the biological durability and dimensional stability of wood. Current studies on thermally modified wood (TMW) quality are focusing on treated material, on treatment conditions or on species effect on the end-product characteristics. Relatively little is known about the effect of intrinsic wood properties on its thermal modification. As wood properties vary especially under the influence of human activities through sylviculture, this thesis studied the effect of European oak and silver fir wood density and chemical composition on their thermal modification kinetic. An X rays computed tomography (CT) and densitometer were used to characterize wood samples. Boards were heat-treated by conduction under vacuum using a pilot furnace, whereas sawdust samples underwent thermo-gravimetric analysis under nitrogen. The analysis allowed finding intra- and interspecific variations, especially within growth rings and along radial direction (from pith to bark). Forest management impacted heat modification kinetic of the studied samples, especially in silver fir where fast grown wood was more sensitive to treatment. The finding will be used as additional information to the wood industry which will account for homogeneity of loadings destined to heat treatment

Повний текст джерелаDifferent communication services from delivery of written letters to telephones, voice/video over Internet Protocol(IP), email, Internet chat rooms, and video/audio conferences, immersive communications have evolved over time. A communication system of voice/video over IP is the realization of a two fundamental layered architecture, signaling layer and media layer. The signaling protocol is used to create, modify, and terminate media sessions between participants. The signaling layer is further divided into two layers, service layer and service control layer, in the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) specification. Two widely used communication systems are IMS, and Peer-to-Peer Session Initiation Protocol (P2P SIP). Service providers, who behave as brokers between callers and callees, implement communication systems, heavily controlling the signaling layer. These providers do not take the diversity aspect of end users into account. This dissertation identifies three technical barriers in the current communication systems especially in the signaling layer. Those are: I. lack of openness and flexibility in the signaling layer for end users. II. difficulty of development of network-based, session-based services. III. the signaling layer becomes complex during the high call rate. These technical barriers hinder the end-user innovation with communication services. Based on the above listed technical barriers, the first part of this thesis defines a concept and architecture for a communication system in which an individual user becomes the service provider. The concept, My Own Communication Service Provider (MOCSP) and MOCSP system is proposed and followed by a call flow. Later, this thesis provides an analysis that compares the MOCSP system with existing communication systems in terms of openness and flexibility. The second part of this thesis presents solutions for network-based, session based services, leveraging the proposed MOCSP system. Two innovative services, user mobility and partial session transfer/retrieval are considered as examples for network-based, session-based services. The network-based, sessionbased services interwork with a session or are executed within a session. In both cases, a single functional entity between caller and callee consistently enables the media flow during the call initiation and/or mid-call. In addition, the cooperation of network call control and end-points is easily achieved. The last part of the thesis is devoted to extending the MOCSP for a high call rate and includes a preliminary comparative analysis. This analysis depends on four factors - scalability limit, complexity level, needed computing resources and session setup latency - that are considered to specify the scalability of the signaling layer. The preliminary analysis clearly shows that the MOCSP based solution is simple and has potential for improving the effective usage of computing resources over the traditional communication systems
