Resumo: A proteína prion celular (PrPC) e uma glicoproteina extracelular, ancorada na membrana plasmática por uma molécula de glicofosfatidilinositol (GPI). A conversão de PrPC em uma isoforma patologica (PrPSc), a partir de modificações estruturais, e responsável pelo desenvolvimento das encefalopatias espongiformes transmissíveis (TSEs) ou doenças periódicas. Vários trabalhos indicam que formas citosólicas de PrP podem ser formadas durante erros na sua biossintese. Os príons citosólicos (CytPrP) são gerados por meio de duas vias: ERAD (ER-associated Degradation) e ineficiência do peptídeo sinal. Alguns estudos demonstram que estas formas de príons citosólicos exercem função neurotoxica, contribuindo para a manifestação das doenças periódicas. Trabalhos anteriores do nosso grupo, foram capazes de identificar uma interação entre PrPC e CHIP/Stub1. CHIP/Stub1 e uma proteína citoplasmática o qual funciona como um co-chaperona molecular e apresenta atividade ubiquitina E3- ligase, participando do controle de qualidade das proteínas desde o dobramento ate a fase de degradação. Ainda, CHIP/Stub1 e homologa a proteína STI1/Hop, uma cochaperona e um ligante bem estabelecido de PrPC. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar em diferentes linhagens celulares se o efeito neurotoxico de PrP citosólico, ja descrito para algumas células, era capaz de ser modulado através dessas co-chaperonas. Em nossos resultados mostramos por diferentes ensaios de viabilidade celular, tais como MTT, vermelho neutro, que CytPrP reduziu de 30-50% a viabilidade celular de três linhagens neuronais testadas: N2a, SH-SY5Y e CF10. Esse mesmo efeito nao foi observado para linhagem renal HEK293T. A expressão das co-chaperonas CHIP e STI-1 foi capaz de reverter a toxicidade do CytPrP em todas linhagens neuronais. Nossos resultados ainda mostraram que mutantes de CHIP e STI-1 com domínios deletados também foram capazes de reverter o efeito neurotoxico causado pela CytPrP. Ensaios utilizando o inibidor MG132 e hidroxicloroquina sugerem que essa reversao do efeito neurotoxico de CytPrP por CHIP e STI-1 parece não ser dependente da via de degradação por proteossomo, nem por lisossoma. Assim, um mecanismo através do qual as co-chaperonas exercem seu efeito de proteção da neuroxicidade ainda esta sendo investigado. Os dados obtidos nesse trabalho poderão contribuir para elucidar os possíveis mecanismos da neurotoxicidade de prions, permitindo um auxilio futuro no desenvolvimento de alvos terapêuticos relacionadas a doenças prionicas. Abstract: The cellular prion protein (PrPC) is an extracellular glycoprotein, anchored to the plasma membrane by a glycophosphatidylinositol (GPI) molecule. The conversion of PrPC to a pathological isoform (PrPSc), through structural modifications, is responsible for the development of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) or prion diseases. Several data indicate that cytosolic forms of PrP can be formed during errors in its biosynthesis. Cytosolic prions (CytPrP) are generated by two pathways: ERAD (ER-associated Degradation) and signal peptide inefficiency. Some studies have shown that these forms of cytosolic prions exert neurotoxic function, contributing to the manifestation of prion diseases. Previous work by our group was able to identify an interaction between PrPC and CHIP/Stub1. CHIP/Stub1 is a cytoplasmic protein, identified as a co- chaperone with E3 ligase activity, participating in the quality control of proteins, from folding to the degradation phase. Still, CHIP/Stub1 is homologous to STI1 (stress - inducible protein 1 ), a co-chaperone and a well-established PrPC bind protein. The objective of this work was to evaluate in different cell lines whether the neurotoxic effect of cytosolic PrP, already described for some cells, was able to be modulated through these co-chaperones. In our results we showed by different cell viability assays, such as MTT, neutral red, that CytPrP reduced from 30% to 50% the cell viability of three tested neuronal lines: N2a, SH-SY5Y and CF10. This same effect was not observed for HEK293T renal lineage. Our results also show that CHIP and STI-1 mutants with deleted domains were also capable of reversing the neurotoxic effect caused by CytPrP in all neuronal lines. Assays using the proteasome inhibitor MG132 and Hydroxychloroquine suggest that this reversal of the neurotoxic effect does not appear to be dependent of the proteosome or lysosomal degradation pathways. Thus, a mechanism through which co-chaperones exert their protective effect of CytPrP neuroxicity is still being investigated. The data obtained in this work may contribute to elucidate possible mechanisms of neurotoxicity of prions, allowing future aid in the development of therapeutic targets related to prion diseases. Повний текст джерелаThis dissertation presents the project and implementation of a stub generator system, to be used in the Digital Systems Laboratory at ICMSC/USP, running on DOS platforms. The stub generator is an auxiliary tool for the development of distributed applications and has the responsability of creating the stub procedures automatically, based on the definitíon of the services that will be executed remotely. The auxiliary software releases the programmers from the routine implementation tasks that involve the basic communication protocol. The stub procedures are responsible for the communication between the clients processes and the available services. With these procedures, the client and the server can be both compiled and executed separately, on diferent machines. The most attractive advantage in adopting the stub generator described in this work is the gain of productivity observed in distributed applications designs. The proposed system is implemented in the \"C\" language and can be easily used for the generation of distributed applications involving IBM-PC compatible platforms, executing the DOS version 3 or higher.

Повний текст джерелаIn current communication systems, whether terrestrial or spatial, whether fixed or mobile, there is a real interest in developing high performance miniature RF front-ends. This is applied in particular to filter devices, in which the size and the quality factors are clearly in conflict. For low frequency bands around the GHz, the wavelengths remain significant, making it difficult the miniaturization efforts. On the other hand, we must also ensure that these filters will be easily interconnected with other other system components, including active devices.For all these reasons, the development of multilayer filter structures using high permittivity substrates (Er = 68) in an LTCC approach is consolidated as an interesting alternative. It may lead to a significant footprint reduction without decreasing the electrical performances.As part of this work, two multilayer filter structures have been developed to meet the given specifications in L and S bands, given by a space manufacturer. These filters have as main features a high rejection level and low losses in the passband. To meet the specifications, a vertically stacked SIW filter and a short-circuited stubs filter in a stripline configuration were studied. The SIW filter is characterized by a high quality factor, which results in low insertion loss and good flatness. The stubs filter allows in contrast to reduce the footprint but at the price of impacting the electrical performance. In both cases we take advantage of the flexibility offered by the LTCC technology as it finally provides an additional freedom degree compared to a conventional planar approach. For the SIW filter, the topological architecture was studied and designed in detail, to be able to arrange and synthetize couplings between twelve cavities. In a similar way, for the stub filter a synthesis that takes profit of all the offered freedom degrees was developed.Given the filters complexity, especially due to the high order and the implementation of “electrical walls" based on specific vias patterns, a close attention must be paid during the simulation and optimization phase. In addition, the high permittivity substrate does not allow to conceive 50-Ohms lines. Finally, access transitions constitute a challenging task, especially for the SIW case.This thesis was co-funded by CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales) and Thales Alenia Space, and was accompanied by an R&T project funded by CNES. Este estudo tem por objetivo avaliar o comportamento estrutural de um sistema de vigamento de piso tipo stub-girder, modificado para melhor aproveitamento dos perfis em sua fabricação. O estudo é baseado em formulações não lineares a partir do método dos elementos finitos (MEF), com uso do software ANSYS. Através do software FTOOL foi criado um modelo simplificado para a análise estrutural e o cálculo das resistências nominais foi feito com base na norma canadense CAN-S16-10 da Canadian Standards Association. Além disso, foram avaliadas as cargas de máximas e de serviço do sistema, bem como os deslocamentos associados a estes carregamentos. Com base nos resultados obtidos, foram feitas recomendações de projeto do sistema e foram avaliadas as condições de economia de material e possibilidade de utilização na prática de construção de edificações de andares múltiplos. Com vistas à fase de construção, é feita a discussão sobre a possibilidade de obtenção de um método construtivo industrializado, já que o sistema de fabricação é caracterizado pela rapidez de produção e montagem, que são facilitadas pelo fato deste sistema permitir a reutilização de pequenos comprimentos de perfis que sobram no processo normal de fabricação.
This study s purpose was to evaluate the structural behavior of a stub-girder floor-system, which was modified to better utilize the steel profiles in its manufacturing process. The study is based on nonlinear analysis through the use of the finit element method (FEM), employing the software ANSYS. For the structural analysis, a simplified model was created through the use of the software FTOOL and the nominal resistances was obtained based on the canadian CAN-S16-10 Standard, by the Canadian Standards Association. Furthermore, the working and tensile loads were evaluated, as were the displacements associated to them. Based on the results, designs recommendations were made and the conditions of economy of material, as well the possibility of the system s practical use in multi-storey buildings were discussed. With regards to the construction phase, a discussion was made on the possibility of obtaining an industrialized construction method, since the manufacturing process is characterized by the fast production and assembly, which are facilitade by the fact that this system allows the reuse of small lenghts of remaining profiles from the normal manufacturing process.

I dagsläget finns det ett verktyg hos Enea som genererar stubbar för C++-källkod. Examensarbetet består av att vidareutveckla detta verktyg i flera avseenden. Stöd för C-kod adderas till verktyget. För C-kod adderas även möjligheten att generera stubb- och mockobjekt. Testning av verktyget görs mot ett befintligt kundprojekt hos Enea med goda resultat.

Повний текст джерелаAspect-oriented programming is an approach that uses principles of separation of concerns to improve the sofware modularization. Testing of aspect-oriented programs is a new challenge related to this approach. Two aspects and classes test order strategies to support integration testing of aspect-oriented programs are proposed in this thesis. The objective of these strategies is to reduce the cost of testing activities through the minimization of the number of implemented stubs during integration test. An aspectual dependency model and a diagram which describes dependencies among classes and aspects called AORD (Aspect and Object Relation Diagram) used by the ordering strategies are also proposed. The aspectual dependency model and the AORD were defined considering the syntax constructions and the semantics of AspectJ. As the proposed estrategies should be applied in design phase of software development, a process to map a desing model using UML and MATA notations into a AORD is proposed in order to support the ordering strategies. The mapping process is composed by rules that show how to map both aspect and object-oriented dependencies. A characterization exploratory study using three systems implemented with AspectJ was conducted to validate the ordering strategies, the aspectual dependency model and the AORD. Interesting samples of stubs implementations were collected during the study conduction. The stubs were analyzed and classified. Based on these analysis and classification a catalog of stubs and drivers is presented

It also discusses some applications built to validate the system, which follow the client-server model. A theoretical review of the most relevant topics related to the field is done and the tools implementation details are presented. This tool was implemented with object-oriented techniques and comprises an automatic Stub Generator and an RPC Library, together with a Binding Service. The distributed applications that were built try to explore the tools full potential. General guidelines regarding the development of distributed applications for the Windows 95 environment are also provided.

Повний текст джерелаEl presente trabajo tiene como objetivo determinar el desempeño sísmico de marcos de momento con conexión viga-columna doble t soldadas. Para ello, se implementa la metodología presentada en FEMA p695, la cual permite cuantificar el desempeño sísmico de nuevos sistemas estructurales. Para implementar la metodología, se requiere determinar de forma explícita las curvas de carga vs deformación de todos los elementos estructurales que componen el sistema sismo-resistente. Para las vigas y columnas se emplean las curvas presentadas en FEMA-356, mientras que para determinar la curva de la conexión viga-columna, se utiliza el modelo de rigidez desarrollado por Swanson, 2000. Los resultados indican que un marco de momento con conexiones doble-t soldadas solo puede considerarse como marcos especiales (SMF) si el tamaño de sus vigas es de perfiles IN70 o inferior. Para marcos que requieran vigas de mayor dimensión, se deben considerar como marcos ordinarios (OMF), con el factor de reducción menor correspondiente. Este resultado ratifica lo expuesto en FEMA-350, donde se precalifica la conexión t-stub plegada para ser usada como SMF solo hasta perfiles tamaño W24.

Повний текст джерелаTesting has become essential to assure the quality of software products. Within the process test, unit test is performed on the smallest funcional part of the software and it aims at discovering defects in these units. JUnit is a unit test tool, which assists developers in the automation of tests and verification of results. However, much time, cost and effort are still spent to codify drivers and stubs, which most of the time jeopardizes its use. Another problem found in the unit test is the need of cases test specification in a higher level language, which is independent of any specific programming language. The Test Profile of UML 2. 0 (U2TP) solves this problem, because it allows to represent and document all artifacts used in the test process. This work aims at the fully automated generation of test drivers and stubs for JUnit from U2TP test specifications. A case study has shown that the developed algorithms correctly generated all test code, considering all elements explored in this work. The main goal of the case study was the validation of the correctness of the generated code, as well as the quantitative analysis of time consumed and number of code lines generated.
Atualmente a área de teste de software tem se tornado fundamental para garantia da qualidade dos produtos desenvolvidos. Dentro do processo de teste, o teste unitário é realizado na menor parte funcional de um software e visa descobrir defeitos nestas unidades. JUnit é uma ferramenta de apoio ao teste unitário, a qual auxilia desenvolvedores na automação dos testes e verificação dos resultados. Porém, muito tempo, custo e esforço ainda são gastos para codificar os drivers e os stubs de teste necessários a esta ferramenta, o que muitas vezes inviabiliza o seu uso. Outro problema encontrado no processo de teste unitário é a necessidade de especificação dos casos de teste em uma linguagem de mais alto nível, que seja independente de linguagem de programação. O Perfil de Teste da UML 2. 0 (U2TP) resolve este problema, pois permite representar e documentar todos artefatos utilizados no processo de teste. Esta dissertação de mestrado tem por objetivo a geração totalmente automatizada de drivers e stubs de teste para ferramenta JUnit a partir de especificações de testes modeladas com a U2TP. Um estudo de caso mostrou que os algoritmos propostos geraram corretamente todo código de teste para todos elementos explorados neste trabalho. O estudo de caso teve como principais objetivos a validação correta do código gerado, bem como uma análise quantitativa em relação ao tempo envolvido e número de linhas de código geradas.

In this thesis, the stepped-impedance resonators are used to replace the traditional quarter-wavelength shorted stub resonators in implementing the filters composed of coupled resonators. By varying the connecting line position between two resonators, one can effectively change the coupling so that the shorted-stub bandpass filters with various bandwidths may be realized.To suppress the harmonic spurious response, associated with the proposed filters ,the low-pass filters are incorporated in the filter design. Besides,the optimal distributed structures are used to realize the wideband bandpass filters. The limit of the bandwidth and the practical consideration are also discussed in the thesis.

The study of connection devices, with the objective of ensuring the continuity and transmission of efforts in an all structure is a subject widely developed by several authors, the component method being a reference in the analysis and design of a wide range of joint configurations, it is even featured in Eurocode 3 - Design of steel structures, Part 1-8: design of structural connections. Nonetheless, this method was calibrated only for beam-column joints under monotonic loading conditions. The cyclical nature of these actions such as an earthquake, introduces a layer of additional complexity to the analysis of the behaviour of the joints, leaving outside the scope of the component method. The purpose of this thesis is to develop the circuit structures and synthesis methods of the dual-band stub-tapped coupled-line couplers. In modern communication systems, microstrip couplers are useful because of they provide output signals with desired power split ratios and with 90 or 180 phase difference. Coupled-line couplers are favored and are often adopted in communication systems for their planar, simplicity, and ease of manufacture, which enhances their practicality. Since the conventional coupled-line couplers require their electrical lengths corresponding specific wavelengths, they only can be used for single band applications. There is an increasing demand for dual-band wireless communication systems that enable user access to various services. For this reason, how to enable single coupled-line coupler operated in dual bands is a popular research topic recently. Accordingly, this work proposes the novel circuit structures of stub-tapped coupled lines instead of using the conventional /4 coupled lines for dual-band operation. The T-shaped coupled lines have excellent dual-band performance for realization of couplers. Moreover, the dual-band couplers with stepped-impedance-stub coupled lines can have design flexibility because of their increased non-uniform impedances. The synthesis method is developed and found that it has several degrees of freedom which can be exploited to realize the arbitrary frequency ratio, miniaturize circuit size and replace impractical impedances with more realizable ones. In addition to the formulation and simulation, this work also fabricates several dual-band couplers with T-shaped coupled lines and stepped-impedance-stub coupled lines to demonstrate the capability of the proposed circuit structures. The measured results validate the superior performances are achieved.

In this thesis, the quad-channel diplexer, quad-band bandpass filter and octa-channel quadplexer are presented. These three circuits are using distributed coupling technique to achieve low loading effect and can obtain many channels without complicated matching network. The multipath stub loaded resonators is designed to have two resonant path, and the resonant frequencies can be easily controlled by tuning length for each resonant path in the multipath stub loaded resonators. The octa-channel quadplexer is composed of two set of multipath stub loaded stepped impedance resonators(SIR) and two set of multipath stub loaded uniform impedance resonators (UIR)with one long distribute input feeding line and four output feeding line. UIR structures and un-matching Q-factor at harmonic frequency were used to suppress harmonic, through which widestopband was achieved. And meanwhile UIR structures has characteristic of reduce the size of circuit. In short, the filters have advantages of compact size, high passband selectivity and high design freedom. As a result, the proposed octa-channel quadplexer occupies an exceedingly small circuit size, i.e., 0.34λg by 0.19λg, while still having good isolation better than 32 dB for each channel.

In this thesis, we use CPW series open stubs as matching elements to design the millimeter-wave coplanar low noise amplifier. At the same time, we develop an effective matching skill that can design the broad- band multi-stage low noise amplifier by using coplanar series open stub as the element of the interstage matching network.The measurement results show that the excellent performance (high gain and low noise figure) of the hybrid MIC millimeter-wave low noise amplifier using coplanar series open stub is comparable with that of the MMIC millimeter-wave low noise amplifier.

Three kinds of design methods for lowpass filters and highpass filters are presented in the thesis. Three kinds of microwave filters are the A-type, B-type and C-type separately. The A-type filter is only suitable for the odd orders. The B-type filter is only suitable for the even orders. The C-type filter is suitable for the odd orders and even orders. Due to the limitation of PCB board fabrication. This thesis concentrates on matching by changing multi-stub impedances in the research . This work demonstrates three kinds of design formula in filters design and further discuss the impedance match of the multi-stub impedance and the admittance J inverters. The microstrip line obtain a new length value when the multi-stub impedances are matched at the same value. Therefore, a novel filter can be designed by adjusting the multi-stub impedance value. Afterward the work further discusses the variation of the multi-stub impedance. The simulation results show that the insertion loss and the return loss have obvious improvement. During the increase of impedance value, the attenuation performances of the filter become sharply. Practically, the designed lowpass and highpass filters are made by LTCC (low-temperature co-fired ceramics) process. At last, the thesis would demonstrate that the simulation results and the measurement results are identical.

With the advance of IC manufacture process, operating speed of the circuit systems gets higher, so does the demand for data communication. This phenomenon will induce the problem of signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI). Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is using open-stub structure to enhance the effective of signal and power integrity. The enhanced passive equalizer is using the frequency-dependent property of open stubs, so that makes the high-frequency part get a larger inductive to increase the equalizer performance. Compared the conventional passive equalizer with the proposed structure, a good performance has been demonstrated. In addition, by using plating bars to design the open-stub, it promote transmission quality and do not increase extra space. The ultra-wideban hybrid EBG structure, is using the stop band which caused by the opeb-stub to suppress certain frequency’s noise and increase the stop bandwidth. This structure not only has advantage of the hybrid EBG structure, but also has effect of ultra-wideband suppress. Moreover, we alse proposed the ground trace structure to solve the problem of Signal Integrity, and improve the signal quality of single-ended transmission line.

We propose two type of one-section branch line coupler with open-ended stub designs. The first type has two symmetry planes in its structure. The circuit analysis bases on these symmetries could simplify the analysis procedure. Applying the corresponding four sub-circuits, we have the scattering parameters of the circuit. By given the characteristic impedances or the electrical lengths of two transmission line sections, we obtain a highly free design route for any given electrical length and output power ratio. The prototypes are designed, simulated, fabricated, and measured to verify the correctness of the design. Two electrical lengths, 750 and 450 are selected as the examples. The final layouts show 29% and 22% size reduction comparing with the conventional one. In addition, the output power ratio at output and coupling ports are 1:4 and 1:2, respectively. The second type circuit uses two kind of pi type equivalent circuits, C-TL-C and C-L-C. They are applied at two different transmission line sections. Furthermore, the shunted capacitance is converted into open-ended stub to have the same electrical characteristics but easy to fabricate. Also, two prototypes are designed, fabricated, and measured for the validity checking. They have the electrical lengths, 600 and 900, with output power ratios 5:1 and 3:1, respectively. The simulated and experimental results show good agreement with the frequency of interest. The proposed two type of one-section branch line coupler designs are all good in size reduction, freely function changing, and well suited for various RF/microwave circuits.

Abstract The development of modern communication system has been flourishing. However, the channels seem to be inadequate. It is an inevitable trend for us using the bandwidth of microwave to increase the available channels. Meanwhile, it is absolute that the crowd of channels will cause the interference among them. Therefore, the filter developments are significantly important. While microwave frequency is developing, the traditional capacities and inductance are insufficient. The developments and implications of microwave components are followed. Based on the above thoughts, the research aims to discuss how to use transmission line to design microwave discrete time filters. First of all, the current developments of transmission line filters are introduced. A new model of discrete filters will be designed based on the researcher’s three-section transmission line theories. Finally, a discrete time filter will be implementation which follows the procedure of the research.

Abstract The purpose of this thesis is to develop the circuit structures and synthesis methods of miniaturized dual-band rat-race couplers. In modern communication systems, microstrip couplers are useful because of they can provide output signals with equal or unequal power ratios and with 90 or 180 phase differences. The rat-race couplers are popular circuits often used in communication systems. Since they require structures with uniform impedances and specific wavelengths involved, they only can be used for single band applications. For this reason, how to enable single coupler operated in dual bands is a popular research topic recently. In this thesis, we propose the stepped-impedance-stub line to replace the traditional /4 and 3/4 lines for dual-band rat-race design. By taking the advantage of non-uniform impedance distribution, the stepped-impedance-stub line can have an equivalent 90 electrical length in dual bands. The proposed stepped-impedance-stub line can have dual-band performance and is smaller than the conventional T-shaped line because of its increased non-uniform impedances. The synthesis method is developed and found that it has two degrees of freedom which can be exploited to miniaturize circuit size and/or replace impractical impedances with more realizable ones. The advantage of wide range of realizable frequency ratio of dual bands is also observed. Moreover, the novel dual-band -90° stepped-impedance-stub coupled lines are developed to replace the conventional 3/4 lines of rat-race for further size reduction. This thesis develops several novel dual-band rat-race couplers with stepped-impedance-stub lines. In addition to the formulation and simulation, we will also fabricate and measure practical circuits to demonstrate the capability of the proposed circuit structures.

In this thesis, we propose an approach to design and implement networks with capability of being microwave filters. Using z-domain technique and parallel two-section stubs to design a narrow bandpass filter. This method present a z-domain transform technique to design an arbitrarily pre-defined filter is implemented by using equal-length transmission lines. Parallel open stubs placed on both sides of the serial transmission line are used to induce a passband that forms a narrow bandpass filter. The filters are implemented with serial transmission lines, parallel open one-section stub, parallel short one-section stub, and parallel two-section stubs. The filter responses of defined by design can be implemented with the configuration of transmission lines for microwave application. The simulated results show that the passband is narrow, and the filter can suppress the higher order harmonics. Eventually, experimental results are presented to illustrate the validity of the two design method.

Chiral and star-shaped honeycomb structures can be considered as periodic phononic structures. These structures can be design to have an effective negative Poisson’s ratio. The materials which have negative Poisson’s ratio are known as auxetic materials. The elastic wave propagations within the periodic honeycomb structures are investigated by using the finite element method and Bloch’s theorem. In the present thesis, we calculate first the effective Poisson’s ratio and Young’s modulus of tetrachiral structures with quadratic ligament, anti-tetrachiral structures and star-shaped honeycomb structures by finite element static analysis. By changing the geometric parameters, we can design the honeycomb structures which can have effective negative Poisson’s ratio. The dispersion analysis of two-dimensional phononic crystal plates with periodic stubs are analyzed. By changing different effective material parameters, we investigate the evolution of the complete band-gap for different negative Poisson’s ratio. We find that the first band-gap of tetrachiral structures with quadratic ligament is the lowest. By changing the geometric parameters of the phononic crystal, material and shape of the stubs, respectively, the influence on the center frequency and bandwidth of the first band-gap is also compared. We find that different height of stubs, plate thickness and lattice constants will have different effect on band-gap. And the larger the density of stub’s material is, the lower center frequency and narrower bandwidth we will get. In the application, we use these structures to design the phononic crystals with defects and locally resonant. In the case of phononic crystal with defects, we analyze its defect modes and quality factor, and find that the higher the resonance frequency is, the better quality factor we will get. In locally resonant phononic crystal, the rubber layer is added as soft material. By changing its filling ratio or height, the complete band-gap will have different operating frequency ranges. The larger the filling ratio is, the higher the center frequency of the first band-gap we will find. But the band-gap frequency does not decrease as the height of rubber layer increases. These features can be used to design different kinds of multi-channel filters. We also demonstrate the feasibility of these designs by full wave simulations of COMSOL Multiphysics®.

In this thesis, we use the aperiodic T-shaped structure to replace the low impedance line of the original Wilkinson unequal power dividers, and improve the problem of spurious band. We also minimize the circuit size of the modified Wilkinson unequal power dividers. Finally, compact designs capable of suppressing spurious bands are realized.

This thesis presents the design of the multi-band bandpass filter (BPF) using the stub-loaded resonators structure. The possible resonant modes can be found by deriving the input admittance of the resonators. The resonant figure contains the information about the possible resonator modes to be chosen. The passbands of the filters are supported by the modes. In the thesis, four different bandpass filters designed for various applications of interest are discussed. The proposed dual-band BPF is composed of a uniform impendence resonator (UIR) and a loaded stub connected to the UIR with different electronic lengths to form a stub loaded resonator (SLR). The SLR is used to design a compact dual-band bandpass filter (BPF). The resonant modes of the SLR form the passbands of the BPF. The center frequencies of the passbands of the BPF are determined by the length ratios. The BPF exhibits good passband performance with center frequencies of 2.44 and 3.55 GHz with low insertion losses of 2.5 and 2.8 dB, respectively. The transmission zeros are also obtained near the passband at 2.5 and 2.8 GHz. The BPF is compact due to the interdigital coupling design. The transmission zeros are created close to the first passband edge, which results in high selectivity. The measured results agree well with the simulated ones. The second BPF is a tri-band BPF, which is constructed by a pair of asymmetric uniform stub-loaded resonators (AUSLRs). The center frequencies of the BPF are obtained by properly controlling the location of the stub and length ratio of the AUSLR. The center frequencies of the resultant BPF are located at 1.4, 2.6, and 3.5 GHz with low insertion losses of 0.9, 1.75, and 2.7 dB, respectively. The transmission zeros are also obtained near the passband at 1.27, 2.04, 3.37, and 3.67 GHz. Moreover this AUSLR structures create transmission zeros close to each passband edge, resulting in high selectivity, good isolation, and compact size. The measured results agree well with the simulated ones. The third BPF is designed to have four passbands. The quad-band BPF is studied for the first time by using an asymmetric uniform stub-loaded resonator (AUSLR). The passbands of the proposed filter are designed for global system for mobile communications (GSM) and wireless local area network (WLAN) at 0.89, 1.92, 2.35, and 3.31 GHz. The passbands are centered at 0.9, 1.96, 2.4, and 3.35 GHz with low insertion losses of 0.37, 0.72, 0.99, and 1.06 dB, respectively. The transmission zeros are also obtained near the passband at 0.7, 1.4, 1.7, 2.1, 2.6, 2.7, and 3.6 GHz. The measurement results are in line with the simulation ones. As a result, the quad-band filter is proven to be compact, low-loss, and high selectivity. The last proposed filter is quint-band BPF. The BPF is studied for the first time by using asymmetric uniform stub-loaded resonators (AUSLRs). The passband of the proposed filter is designed for global system for GSM, Bluetooth, WiMAX, and WLAN applications and the center frequencies are located at 0.91, 1.92, 2.43, 3.48, and 4.4 GHz. The passbands are centered at 0.87, 1.99, 2.48, 3.52, and 4.42 GHz with insertion losses of 0.99, 1.2, 1.09, 1.48, and 2.15 dB, respectively. The transmission zeros are also obtained near the passband at 0.75, 1.06, 2.27, 2.78, 3.62, 4.29, and 4.77 GHz. The measurement results are in line with the simulation ones. As a result, the quint-band filter is proven to be compact, low-loss, and high selectivity.
