Jordanian SMEs are becoming increasingly hard to endure and thrive in the aggressive entrepreneurial world economy due to weak capital structure, poor leadership and weak marketing strategy, as well as other legislative limitations. As a consequence, Jordan faces problems in achieving full advantage from the SME industry as well, making an inadequate contribution to the domestic GDP. Competitive advantage (CA) can, however, perform a crucial part in achieving fast economic development due to sustainability of SMEs and a coherent appropriate input to Jordan's GDP. But the construction of CA is still underdeveloped and ignores a unifying hypothesis, resulting in fragmented study attempts. In addition, there are now several frameworks for the evaluation and benchmarking of firm performance (FP), but none of these frameworks provide an approach for assessing the competitive advantage of the firm. Therefore, this study aims to explore and determine the dimensionality of items measuring CA construct. The issue has previously been discussed, but there is still no prevalent agreement between scholars as the number of dimensions and items to assess CA should be used. This research investigated the CA measurement items created by past researchers and tailored these items to accommodate the environment of SMEs in Jordan. In this regard, the Delphi technique has been combined by the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and also followed the steps of instrument creation developed by Churchill (1979). The primary objective of this research is to develop an instrument capable of assessing CA in Jordanian SME sector. The tool developed in this research provides a relevant and efficient tool that disclosed three aspects by satisfying all the socio-metric properties required by the measuring tool in the social science, namely dimensionality, reliability, and validity.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of small- and medium-sized enterprises’ (SMEs) domestic network structural attributes on their ex post internationalisation strategic innovation and adaptiveness in the host country. Design/methodology/approach The model fit of SME domestic network structural attributes and their ex post international performance was examined using structural equation modelling on data gathered from a sample of 263 SMEs from Croatia, a transition and emerging economy. Hierarchical regression analysis was further performed to test both the direct and moderating effects. Findings The study revealed that domestic network informality (DNF) moderates the link between SME domestic network centrality and their international innovation. Similarly, the findings show that DNF strengthens the negative association between domestic network density and SME international innovation and strategic adaptiveness. Moreover, the study did not find any direct impact of these domestic networks’ structural attributes (density and centrality) on SME international innovation and strategic adaptiveness. Originality/value Scholars have emphasised the importance and urgency for further research attention on the role of networks on SMEs’ internationalisation activities from emerging economies. This study responds to this call, and to the knowledge of the authors, is the first to examine the role of domestic network attributes on SME international performance in emerging economies. The findings provide new insightful contributions to the social network perspective and the international entrepreneurship literatures.

A conceptual and non-technical overview of the process is discussed, identifying the positive and negative aspects of the procedure. In addition, examples of SEM in practice in hospitality research are examined.

The relationship between variables in structural equation modeling (SEM) forms a structural model. This structural model can be explained through structural equations, such as in regression analysis. This structural equation describes the prediction of the latent (exogenous) independent variable on the latent (endogenous) dependent variable. Researchers who use analysis with structural equation models need to know whether the model built with empirical data has a unique value or not so that the model can be estimated. If the model does not have a unique value, then the model cannot be identified (unidentified). The cause of a model is categorized as unidentified because the information contained in empirical data is not sufficient to produce a unique solution in calculating model estimation parameters. This literature review aims to describe the process of data analysis using SEM.

The objective of present study is to investigate the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and financial performance (FP) with the help of a stakeholder approach in the context of small and medium enterprises (SME) industry in Delhi NCR. A sample of 382 SMEs was analysed through a structured questionnaire having 22 statements out of which two statements were removed due to low factor loading. The goodness of fit was measured by AMOS–SEM and relationship between variables was examined by path analysis. The overall model was fit and finding indicated a weak positive relationship between CSR and FP. The results were in conformance with previous research works by Jain, Vyas and Durga (2016) and Weber (2008). It was also observed that SMEs are socially responsible towards their stakeholders, but it is more in informal nature rather than adopting it as a strategy. Further, the results revealed that CSR of SMEs is associated with religious spirit.

The structural equation modelling (SEM) method has stronger predicting power than path analysis and multiple regression because SEM is able to analyze at the deepest level the variables or constructs studied. This literature review aimed to describe the use of structural equation modelling in research. In general, SEM can be used to analyze research models that have several independent (exogenous) and dependent (endogenous) variables, as well as moderating or intervening variables. SEM provides several benefits and advantages for researchers, including building research models with many variables, examining variables or constructs that cannot be observed or cannot be measured directly (unobserved), testing measurement errors (measurement errors) for observed variables or constructs ( observed) and confirmatory factor analysis. Broadly speaking, SEM methods can be classified into two types, namely covariance-based structural equation modelling (CB-SEM) and variance or component-based SEM (VB-SEM), which includes partial least squares (PLS) and generalized structured component analysis (GSCA). This literature review aimed to describe the use of structural equation modelling in research.

The aim of this article is to reveal what organising of innovation and growth can be enabled in small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) networks. This is especially interesting for the governance of loosely coupled networks. The research is conducted in the Danish food industry with three food-producing firm networks. The posed hypotheses are tested in a structural equation modelling (SEM) approach with the available data of 60 SMEs. The findings show that the governance of preferred behaviours of SMEs has a considerable significant positive impact on product and systematic innovation, which have a significant impact on growth. Governance of network connections is also found to have a significant positive impact on growth. The findings contribute to an understanding of how both governance of preferred SME behaviour and network connections enable innovation. This study provides SMEs, SME network organisations and policy bodies with an enhanced understanding of governance approaches.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine construction bonds, which is a risk management tool for ensuring that projects are delivered successfully, with emphasis on the influence of stakeholders, project characteristics and bonding decision factors. Design/methodology/approach Using case study of completed public building projects, questionnaires were administered on stakeholders that participated in the projects to solicit information on identified issues. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to examine relationship among identified factors, and various model selection and validation tests were carried out to arrive at the best-fit model. Findings The final model revealed that type of bond, stakeholders’ influence, project characteristics, risks of bonded projects and bonding decision factors have significant effect on success of bonded construction projects. Of the stakeholders, guarantors and contractors have greater influence on effective administration of bonds. Research limitations/implications The study was limited to Lagos and Ondo states, Nigeria. Data were gathered from clients of public projects, banks and insurance companies (guarantors), as well as contracting, quantity surveying and architectural firms registered with the state governments. This is because of the fact that only such firms can be engaged on projects emanating from the governments. Practical implications To enhance project success, there is a need to adopt construction bond for both public and private projects as against the current practice where it is only mandated for public projects. Originality/value Using SEM, this research examined administration of construction bonds with a view to ascertaining their effects on projects success, thereby providing relevant empirical information for stakeholders for effective administration of construction bond.

COVID-19 has created a killing field for SME as one of national economics pillars. Business resilience becomes crucial issue. It has stimulated the owner and/or managers of SME to do many things for saving the SME from its bankruptcy rationally and/or irrationally. This study aimed to elaborate business resilience and to test the impact of rational and irrational factors on business resilience. The rational factors consist of: (1) implementation of health protocol in doing business, (2) developing business flexibility, and (4) improving alliance capability. The rational factors consist of (4) enhancing pro-social leadership a (5) conducting workplace spirituality. This study is cross-sectional survey with causal approach for testing five hypothesizes. Convenience method was used as sampling method. This study involved 506 small medium enterprises in Jawa and Sumatera, the two biggest islands in Indonesia. Collected data were structured with PLS based Structural Equation Modelling. Proposed research model was described into second order construct and tested by validity and reliability analysis, measurement model analysis and structural model analysis. The study of value co-creation for marketing innovation in the small–medium enterprise (SME) community is still overlooked despite its contribution to economic development. This study offers a platform of value co-creation model for marketing innovation and compares its application to the green and business-as-usual SME communities. Structural equation modelling is conducted to test the hypotheses of both model applications. Key persons in the community were interviewed to enrich the quantitative results. The result shows the relationships between collaborative networks and dynamic interactions with resource integration as well as their impact on marketing innovation. Collaborative networks and dynamic interactions demonstrate significantly positive influences on marketing innovation in the business-as-usual SME community, whereas the green SME community only engages in internal dynamic interactions to build internal value co-creation. Policymakers may adopt this model to evaluate SMEs’ business performance by measuring the value co-creation effect on the community’s capacity development.

Objective - Despite extensive research on Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) and innovation and performance, there are still limited resources on how these areas benefit Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). There are various financial aids and support services that are provided to SMEs. Despite this, SMEs still tend to perform quite low. This paper aims to identify the link between EO and SME performance using innovation as a mediator. Methodology/Technique – To achieve this objective, a quantitative approach is used. Questionnaires are collected from 285 SMEs in Peninsular Malaysia. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis is applied to test the hypotheses on the direct and indirect relationships between EO and SME performance through innovation. Finding - The findings of this study show that only two aspects of EO (innovativeness and proactiveness) have significant relationships with SME performance. Interestingly, all dimensions of EO have a direct impact on innovation. Further, innovation has a direct effect on SME performance and is a significant mediator between EO and SME performance. Novelty - These findings indicate that EO is a strong predictor of Innovation and SME performance. The discussion provided in this paper strengthens the body of knowledge on Entrepreneurship and acts as a benchmark for future studies on EO, Innovation and SME Performance. Type of Paper: Empirical. Although plenty of discussions have been conducted on the importance of top management’s ethical commitment (TMEC), companies’ ethical climate (EC), sustainable procurement practices (SPP) and organizational performance, empirical studies to explain the mechanism through which the top management’s ethical commitment generates favorable performance for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are still not yet established. Constructing a formal theory, we recommend that TMEC contributes to SMEs’ performance by promoting the company’s EC and SPP. This hypothetical outline was empirically tested using a sample of SMEs in Saudi Arabia. This study tested hypotheses using structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Our analysis shows that TMEC significantly predicts companies’ EC and SPP, which then fully mediate the effects of TMEC on SMEs’ non-financial performance (NFP). This research supports the reasonable theoretical statement that TMEC boosts SME performance by providing empirical validation. The results also show that TMEC, the company’s EC, and SPP impact SMEs’ performance directly, except for the impacts of SPP on FP.

The aim of this study is to examine the level of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) business owners–managers’ financial literacy and its impact on firm’s performance. The article applied a random sample and structural equation modelling (SEM) approaches in assessing the influence of SME business owners–managers’ level of financial literacy within the three states in the southwest Nigeria. The findings show the complete effect of business owner–manager’s financial knowledge, financial awareness and financial attitude in converting financial literacy to increase in firm performance. Also, they confirm that financial knowledge and awareness of SME business owners–managers are obviously not a prerequisite for the performance of SMEs, but entrepreneur characteristics in decision-making and relationship to financial attitude have a comparison with financial literacy. The research limitation evolves from cross section information observation that solely covers the southwestern part of the country. Additionally, inspired to meet the analysis gap is panel data analysis. Training courses through strategic orientation on the attitudinal perception of SME business owner–manager and basic business management skills, capacity-building aspect, leadership development as well as networking via relationship marketing and management on financial literacy may have significant effect on SMEs’ performance and growth for the managers in general in Nigeria. The article is one of the first to examine the level of financial literacy of SME business owners–managers in Nigeria. The article therefore sets an important benchmark for further research in this area.

Purpose Most of the previous studies conducted on the subject of subcontractors often focussed on a single phase of subcontracting practice; either on registration, selection of subcontractors or on monitoring of subcontractors without much integration to other different phases involved. Thus, on the basis of that reason, the purpose of this paper is to link the gap between different phases of subcontracting practice. This study also attempts to explore the relationships between the key criteria used by general contractors in selecting subcontractors before job awarding (CSSC) and the key criteria used for monitoring subcontractors during construction work (CMSC); which will then include an investigation of the effects these criteria have on project performance (PP). Design/methodology/approach The data obtained from a total of 162 G7 contractors in Malaysia were analysed. The interrelationships between the criteria and the effects of these criteria on PP were investigated simultaneously by employing a single model based on structural equation modelling (SEM) method. Findings The final model has discovered four major criteria that are often considered during the selection of subcontractors namely, “communication”, “relationship”, “general obligation” and “resource management” of a subcontractor. Meanwhile, the major criteria that are referred to in the monitoring of subcontractors are “workmanship”, “awareness of environment, health and safety” and “communication and relationship”. The four CSSC were found to be interrelated among themselves and affected CMSC during the construction stage. The research also revealed that the criteria used in monitoring subcontractor do affect the performance of a project. Thus, based on the result of this investigation, the monitoring of subcontractor is essential in discerning the performance level of a project. Originality/value An established SEM improves a subcontracting practice by creating platforms for CSSC, CMSC and PP to influence each other. With the gap between selection and monitoring subcontractors are filled, then the prediction of the subcontractors’ performance can be made possible.

Digitalization has been identified as a core growth driver for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in this digital era. This study investigates the drivers and barriers aligned with the tendency of owner-managers of SMEs to adopt digitalization. A conceptual framework is developed that extends the unified theory of acceptance and technology (UTAUT) with an anxiety-digitalized environment as a moderating factor of SME owner-managers' intention to adopt digitalization. A quantitative methodology is used to gauge responses from 89 respondents (owner-managers). Additionally, the variance-based structural equation modelling approach (PLS-SEM) is used to analyse and validate the proposed model. Results show that attitude positively mediates the relationship between performance expectancy and intention to adopt digitalization. However, effort expectancy and facilitating conditions were found to negatively influence attitude and intention to adopt digitalization. On the contrary, the results obtained did not confirm the significance of an anxiety-digitalized environment in moderation analyses. Consequently, the overall structural model accounted for 51.1% of the variance in the intention to adopt digitalization among SMEs. This study has theoretically and practically contributed to understanding owner-managers' intent to adopt digitalization of SMEs in the Czech Republic.

The study reveals that causation, rather than effectuation, decision-making strategy is a more significant predictor of sustainable performance of SMEs. However, social intelligence was not found to be a significant moderator of entrepreneurial decision-making-sustainable performance relationship. The study uses data from a survey among 91 technology-based SMEs (TBS) in Malaysia and employs structural equation modelling techniques for data analysis. A new instrument to measure all three variables of entrepreneurial decision-making strategy, social intelligence, and venture performance is proposed based on adoption and adaptation of existing validated scales available in literature.

Purpose This paper aims to popularize the Bayesian methods among novice management researchers. The paper interprets the results of Bayesian method of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), structural equation modelling (SEM), mediation and moderation analysis, with the intention that the novice researchers will apply this method in their research. The paper made an attempt in discussing various complex mathematical concepts such as Markov Chain Monte Carlo, Bayes factor, Bayesian information criterion and deviance information criterion (DIC), etc. in a lucid manner. Design/methodology/approach Data collected from 172 pharmaceutical sales representatives were used. The study will help the management researchers to perform Bayesian CFA, Bayesian SEM, Bayesian moderation analysis and Bayesian mediation analysis using SPSS AMOS software. Findings The interpretation of the results of Bayesian CFA, Bayesian SEM and Bayesian mediation analysis were discussed. Practical implications The management scholars are non-statisticians and are not much aware of the benefits offered by Bayesian methods. Hitherto, the management scholars use predominantly traditional SEM in validating their models empirically, and this study will give an exposure to “Bayesian statistics” that has practical advantages. Originality/value This is one paper, which discusses the following four concepts: Bayesian method of CFA, SEM, mediation and moderation analysis.

Through SMESCO, SME owners can work together on standardization of SME products, SME quality standardization and at the same time a forum for fostering SMEs to market their products, through human resource development programs including seminars, training, workshops and product introduction through online shops and mentoring programs. The research aims to prove and analyse the influence of: innovation strategies on the performance of SMEs in SMESCO Indonesia directly or through competitive advantage; innovation strategy towards competitive advantage; competitive advantage towards the performance of SMEs at SMESCO Indonesia. The research population is all SME companies that partner with SMESCO Indonesia. Sampling is done by probability sampling with a simple random sampling method. Data analysis using Structural Equation Modelling-Partial Least Squares, a sample of 147 small and medium business owners at SMESCO Indonesia. The results of the study prove: (1) The innovation strategy does not directly have a significant effect on the increasing performance of SME companies in SMESCO Indonesia but has a significant effect through competitive advantage; (2) Competitive advantage has a significanteffect on the increasing performance of SMEs in Indonesia.

In the era of globalisation and dynamic market, firms look for competitive advantage and survival using different sources and resources. Prior studies have indicated that Business Model Innovation (BMI) is a core driver for firm’s survival and superior performance especially in growing industries. However, the role of BMI has been discussed theoretically and exploratory while empirical studies are still lacking. Hence, this study examines the importance of BMI in SME performance and the mediating role of competitive advantage. Data were collected through structured questionnaires using a sample size of 303 manufacturing SMEs operating in the emerging market of Pakistan. Hypotheses were tested through Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) using AMOS.21. The results indicate that BMI has a significant positive impact on competitive advantage and SME performance. Competitive advantage partially mediates the relationship between BMI and SME performance. Firms are required to create an effective business model to acquire competitive advantage and superior financial performance. Implications for practice have been discussed.

Electronic commerce (e-commerce) has become a rapidly growing phenomenon to date. A peep into the exponential growth of the main players in this industry reveals a large reservoir of market potential for ecommerce. Nevertheless, the prevalence of e-commerce adoption has attracted attention from the government, retailers, and academicians to place specific focus on this area. As such, this study determined the correlation between Chief Executive Officer’s (CEO’s) technology knowledge, relative advantages, and competitive pressure through the lens of Tornatzky and Fleischer’s (1990) Organisational, Technological, and Environmental (OTE) model in order to probe into the adoption of e-commerce. CEOs and managers of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) established in the Northern states of Malaysia were selected as the subject of analysis. A total of 283 out of 364 questionnaires distributed were valid for analysing and testing the hypotheses. Next, the gathered data were analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 18.0 and Analysis of a Moment Structures (AMOS) version 16.0. The Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was employed to assess model fit and to test hypotheses. As a conclusion, CEO’s technology knowledge and relative advantage displayed significantly positive influence upon adoption of ecommerce, whereas competitive pressure exhibited insignificant impact upon adoption of e-commerce. In precise, the insignificant influence of competitive pressure on e-commerce implementation appeared to be driven by other unseen variables worthy to be discovered. For future research, a comparison study can be conducted by selecting samples both from employers and employees, as well as other multiple variables associated with e-commerce adoption, so as to keep sampling bias at a minimum level.

The advancement of construction equipment is a trend in the construction industry, with numerous benefits. However, using inappropriate construction equipment causes delays in construction projects, affecting the firm's reputation. A number of research studies on overall delay have been conducted globally. Even so, there is a lack of research on construction delays caused by inappropriate construction equipment. The aim of this paper is to investigate the inappropriate construction equipment delay factors and their effects on the firm's reputation. Based on the issues identified in the focus group interviews and the literature survey, a questionnaire survey was conducted to assess the impact of these factors on the progress of Indian construction projects. The primary constraint was that all 300 responses were collected in person from construction professionals to avoid lethargic responses that could skew the results. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to determine the positive strength of each factor's relationship. A t-test was used to see if there was a significant difference between the respondents' firm categories. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to validate the effective relationship between the causes of delays due to inappropriate construction equipment and its impact on company's reputation. All of the factors examined by the SEM analysis evidenced that the inappropriate construction equipment factors are correlated among themselves and combined to impact the reputation of the company. The Cordoba Guitar Festival is one of the most important cultural events in Spain. This article analyses the musical preferences, satisfaction, attitudinal loyalty, and behavioural loyalty of spectators who attended the 36th festival held in July 2016, as well as the festival’s economic impact on the city. These characteristics of the public give rise to the four hypotheses of this study. To achieve this aim, a structural equation model (SEM) was used. The results −χ2 = 27.79, with the p-value found to be p = P (χ2 ≥ 27.79) = 0.224—show the goodness-of-fit of the model and indicate that the observed data do fit the expected dataset. The results therefore allow us to accept the proposed hypotheses concerning the influence of different latent factors, such as musical preferences, loyalty, and satisfaction with the festival. This is the main focus with which the present study has been written. Regarding the economic impact, the Festival raised 1.2 million euros, that is, slightly more than 73,000 euros per day. The amount, although not very high, is important as additional income for the city. The conclusions show the need to consider the preferences of the spectator as an essential tool to enable the continuation and longevity of the Cordoba Guitar Festival—an important cultural destination.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are regarded as engines of economic growth and major instruments of employment generation in Zimbabwe. However, they are hampered by a lack of resources, poor administration and the inadequate knowledge and training of employees. The primary objective of the research was to investigate the influence of organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB) and employee perception of equity (EPE) on organisational commitment (OC) in Zimbabwean SMEs. A survey design with a sample (n=464) was used. Research scales were operationalised mainly on the basis of previous work. Minor adaptations were made in order to fit the current research context and purpose. Seven-item Likert scales were used to measure OCB, EPE and OC through confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. Through structural equation modelling and path analysis, the results indicated that there are positive relationships between the posited research variables (OCB, EPE and OC). Practical recommendations are made to the managers in the SME sector to adopt professional codes of conduct at their workplace to enhance OCBs, EPE and ultimately, OC.

Purpose Lack of extant studies on the moderating role of emotional intelligence on the relationship between social capital and firm performance necessitated this study. The purpose of this paper is to examine the extent to which emotional intelligence moderates the relationship between social capital and small and medium-scaled enterprises’ (SMEs’) performance. Design/methodology/approach A total of 1,532 SMEs were selected through simple random sampling technique from a population of 5,009 SMEs. Structural equation modelling using AMOS was used to analyse the relationship between the variables. Findings The results revealed that social capital has a positive and significant relationship with emotional intelligence. Moreover, the study also showed that emotional intelligence has a positive and significant relationship with SME performance. Finally, the study found that emotional intelligence enhances the relationship between social capital and SME performance. Practical implications SME owner/managers are advised to enact policies that encourage the establishment of meaningful social networks and also help employees understand their emotions while creating social capital as both would help improve the performance of their firms. Originality/value This paper breaks new ground by identifying emotional intelligence as an enabler of SMEs performance where there is adequate social capital.

Interest-free banking in Nigeria is evolving, which is supposed to be solid and ready to compete with conventional commercial banks that have dominated the market for more than a century. SMEs had difficulty in getting the funding they required to grow. The study examines the determinants of SMEs' acceptance of interest-free banking in Nigeria. The study used purposive sampling and adapted a questionnaire to collect data from a sample of 323 SMEs registered with the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). A structural equation modelling via analysis of moment structures (SEM-AMOS) was used for data analysis and hypotheses testing. The study found a significant positive relationship between SME owners' religion, financing opportunities and acceptance of interest-free banking. The study also finds a positive but insignificant effect of a service cost on the acceptance of interest-free banking. Knowing the drivers of SMEs' acceptance of interest-free banking could guide banks' marketing strategies to compete with other types of banks in the industry. The study recommends that interest-free banks ensure the provision of products and services that comply with the religion of their existing and potential customers.

PurposeFocussing on the relationship between personality traits and small and medium enterprise (SME) performance in Tanzania’s furniture sector, the purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of cognitive characteristics as a mediating variable.Design/methodology/approachA total of 300 SMEs in furniture sectors from four different regions in Tanzania were involved in this study. Structural equation modelling approach was used to test simultaneously the direct and the indirect effects of the characteristics of the entrepreneurs on the SMEs performance.FindingsThe findings show that personality traits have a significant influence on SMEs performance through cognitive characteristics.Research limitations/implicationsThe study’s data were collected from businesses in only one industry (furniture) in Tanzania. Future research may extend the approach to other business sectors.Practical implicationsSince entrepreneurial characteristics are considered an important driver of a country’s economic development and performance, it is hoped that governments and sector associations implement suitable policies and incentives to develop an entrepreneurial culture among citizens.Originality/valueCurrent knowledge about entrepreneurial characteristics and their relationship with SME performance in developing countries, especially Tanzania, is very limited. The present study suggests that cognitive characteristics are necessary mediators of the link between personality traits and SME performance.

The purpose of this study was to analyse the antecedents to supplier performance by examining the relationship between information sharing, information quality, institutional trust, supply chain collaboration and supplier performance in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). A quantitative design was adopted in which a survey questionnaire was administered to 400 owners and managers of SMEs based in the southern part of Gauteng, South Africa. Respondents were selected using a nonprobability convenience sampling technique. Data was analysed using a combination of the Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS version 22.0) and Analysis of Moment Structures (Amos version 22) software. The psychometric properties of the measurement scales were ascertained using confi rmatory factor analysis (CFA). Hypotheses were tested using structural equation modelling (SEM). Information sharing exerted a positive influence on both institutional trust and supply chain collaboration. Information quality exerted a strong positive influence on institutional trust but had an insignificant influence on supply chain collaboration. Institutional trust was statistically insignificant, whereas supply chain collaboration was statistically significant in influencing supplier performance. The results of this study validate the roles performed by the constructs examined in facilitating the improvement of supply chain activities among SMEs and their suppliers.

The mechanical properties of 48 fabrics were determined using the Kawabata Evaluation System (KES-F), the Fabric Assurance Simple Test (FAST) and an Instron Tensile Tester. Evaluation ofseam quality was performed with respect to all the sewingparameters and the seams were ranked accordingly. The same evaluation ranking for seam appearance and strength was used for further analysis using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) under AMOS. SEM was used to establish the relationship between seam quality with respect to appearance andstrength, andfabric mechanical properties. SEM was adopted to perform confirmative analysis to identify the fabrics mechanical properties that influence seam quality. From the experimental work, it was established that seams constructed with 100 % spun polyester thread with a ticket number of75gave the best ranking in terms ofseam strength. This threadperformedat optimum values when used with 6.5 stitches per centimetre (spcm) with a Metric needle size (Nm) of 90. For seam appearance, 100 % spun polyester with a ticket number of120 and Metric needle size of80 gave the best ranking. SEM established that extensibility and shear were the main fabric mechanical properties that determine seam quality ofvery light weight fabrics.

Methodology: An empirical study analysis was conducted to see the effect of Entrepreneurial Innovativeness Oriented, Relational Capabilities and Value co-creation to enhance the marketing performance of SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) apparel fashion industries in Central Java, Indonesia. Data sampling was obtained using purposive sampling technique involving 150 respondents. The data was collected by using a questionnaire given directly to the respondents. The data analysis employed Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with AMOS program assistance. Result: The result showed that relational capabilities have a significant effect on value co-creation. Implications/Applications: The value co-creation can be the mediator for improving relational capabilities which have a significant contribution to marketing performance.

This study was designed to find out the mediating role of interaction orientation in the relationship between strategic orientation and Small Medium (SMEs) performance in northeast Nigeria. Data was collected from a sample of 326 SME owner-managers in northeast Nigeria using questionnaire. The analysis was done with inferential statistics on Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) on Smart-PLS 3. The results revealed that interaction orientation mediates the relationship between each of entrepreneurial orientation, market orientation learning orientation, and technology orientation with SMEs’ performance. Without taking proper training and orientation measures for SME owner-managers on the application of entrepreneurial, market orientation, and technology jointly with interaction orientation in Nigeria, the country will continue to suffer from poor SMEs’ performance. It is recommended that special consideration should be given to interaction orientation because of its mediation effect on market orientation and SMEs performance.

Tax compliance behavior has been researched at different times in various parts of the world using various theories. This research has focused on the psychological aspects of tax compliance behavior by applying the theory of planned behavior (TPB) proposed by Ajzen. 300 taxpayers were studied using a questionnaire based on Likert scale, and the results were analyzed using structural equation modelling. Results found from SEM approach indicate that subjective norm has a significant influence on tax compliance behavior while intention mediates it and moderated by religion. Attitude and perceived behavioral control were found to have a significant influence on intention. Individual taxpayers are selected from the capital, and thus findings derived from the sample might not be generalizable for all individual taxpayers in Bangladesh. The results of this study might provide some insight to the tax non-compliance problem in Bangladesh and help authorities to design strategies to motivate taxpayers to comply with existing fiscal policies. Tax compliance issues have been explored from various perspectives in Bangladesh. Lack of significant influence on subjective norm toward taxpayer intention indicates that social and peer is yet to make a substantial contribution to improving tax compliance. This study has introduced structural equation modelling technique to explore the moderating influence of religion on individual taxpayers in the context of Bangladesh.

Design/methodology/approach – A structured questionnaire survey was carried out (207 responses). Factor analysis was carried out to bring out the latent variables representing the attributes, and later, the causality between these variables was established using structural equation modelling (SEM). These relationships between the factors helped in developing a robust system dynamic model for strategic management of technical universities. Findings – The peak points on the contours for varying strategic orientation revealed the adaptability and the time required for attaining that level of adaptability. The contour plots also revealed the limiting values in each case. Finally, it is concluded that university adaptability increases with increasing strategic orientation. The analysis also revealed that the process by which the technical universities formulate their strategies is an important determinant of various factors. Originality/value – Universities looking to implement strategic management-related methodologies for the improved management focusing on developing effective methods for developing strategy can be expected to yield better performance, rather than concentrating on the technologies and supporting infrastructures.

Business environment in Malaysia has become more competitive due to the advancement of technology and globalisation including the small and medium enterprises (SMEs). SMEs have so long devised various marketing strategies in order to penetrate the online advertisement clutter alongside improving their performance. Past studies have shown that using ICT such as social media help to improve SMEs’ performance. The owner-managers themselves determine the adoption of social media in their marketing due to the process of information collection and analysis are highly relied on them. Most of the SMEs have their own websites but these are primarily used as an information tool only. Thus, this study investigated the mediating role of social media marketing adoption between technological support, organisational support, government support and competitive intelligence towards the performance of SME. The theoretical framework of this study is substantiated by Resource-based View (RBV) theory and supported by Technology, Environment and Organisation (TOE) framework. This study has been carried out in the East Coast region of Malaysia consisting of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang states and also employed a questionnaire survey method. From 1920 questionnaires distributed, 339 responses were returned and found usable for the final analysis using the structural equation model partial least square (SEM-PLS). The findings revealed that the adoption of social media marketing mediates the relationship between these technological, organisational, and government supports, the competitive intelligence, and SME performance. Finally, the study’s theoretical and practical implications as well as the limitations and directions for future research were provided and discussed.

This research aims to examine the mediating role of the use of the e-commerce and moderating influence of entrepreneurial competencies on the performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The study data were collected via a structured questionnaire comprised of a seven-point Likert scale from practitioners serving at the top and middle-level positions in Pakistani SMEs. The Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique was applied on 250 useable returned questionnaires. The results showed that the association between the use of e-commerce and firm performance is positively significant. Moreover, the use of e-commerce mediates the positive association between technological readiness, adoption cost, and firm performance. However, the moderating role of entrepreneurial competencies does not appear as significant between the use of e-commerce and manufacturing SMEs’ performance. The present study is the first to explore entrepreneurial competencies as a moderator between e-commerce adoption and firm performance. The empirical outcomes of this research provide useful theoretical and practical implications for the managers and practitioners to understand the underlying factors for the successful implementation of e-commerce in the SME sector to enhance firm performance.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor yang berpengaruh dalam persepsi kegunaan dan persepsi kemudahan sistem terhadap kondisi nyata sistem dan pengaruh persepsi kegunaan sistem terhadap kondisi nyata sistem pada layanan informasi mahasiswa dengan menggunakan kerangka Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) sebagai konseptual model dan Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) sebagai analisis data. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Universitas Gunadarma aktif 2020, sampel diambil secara acak sebanyak 50 orang dari seluruh mahasiswa Gunadarma yang aktif, data diolah menggunakan SEM dari paket software statistik AMOS versi 21.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa studentsite memberikan kemudahan mahasiswa dalam mengakses informasi khususnya dalam kegiatan akademik, hal ini mendorong mereka menggunakan studentsite dengan frekuensi yang tinggi dalam melakukan pekerjaanya sehingga dapat meningkatkan kinerjanya sebagai mahasiswa.

Transportation infrastructure, specifically road projects, is the backbone of economic and social development of many countries. Successful road infrastructure projects are delivered with reduced cost, on time. Factors contributing to Construction delay in road construction projects in Libya were identified and ranked through a questionnaire survey distributed to owners, consultants, and contractors involved in road projects. A total of 256 completed questionnaire forms were received and analysed. A Structural Equation Modelling SEM Path Model of relationship between delay factors and effects in road construction was formulated and evaluated using [SEM] 21 software. 49 factors classified into eight groups of factors and three groups of effects of delay. The contractor group in delay factors had the greatest impact on road construction delay with path coefficient β-values of 0.249, while financial groups in delay effects had the greatest impact on road construction delay with path coefficient β-values of 0.88. The R2 value of the model is 0.48, indicating that the developed model substantially explains Construction delay. This rigorous multivariate analysis has identified several causative factors that contribute to delay in road construction projects in Libya. The findings will help all parties involved in construction projects to achieve better control over construction delays, and will provide support for practitioners to incorporate risk analysis for potential Construction delay in future projects. As well as for researchers in the field of road construction and understanding of the factors causing project cost overruns in developing countries.

Urban public space is essential in improving population carrying capacity and economic efficiency. However, the characteristics of urban public space, such as complex structure, relatively close and large population mobility, make it prone to fire, stampedes and other safety accidents. This study aims to develop a systematic approach to identify the key factors that affect the safety risk of urban public spaces and assess the risk. Based on the literature review, 250 structured questionnaires were randomly distributed. Finally, 219 available questionnaires were collected. Based on the above data, a model of urban public space is built using SEM. The results show that construction equipment, road traffic, social governance, urban environment and behaviour significantly affect public space (from high to low). Specifically, regardless of the model or actual situation, we should pay attention to fire awareness and empirical prevention awareness. Based on previous studies, this study considers the influencing factors of urban public safety risks hierarchically and more practically and makes contributions to the field of urban safety. In addition, governments and developers can conduct valuable actual scenario analysis from this study.

The purpose of this paper is to reveal what impact the dual approaches of outside-in and inside-out innovation have on growth in turnover in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) working together in network context. This is illustrated through research in three informal, Danish food industry networks with 60 SMEs responding. The research employs structural equation modelling for statistical analyses. The findings reveal that both the outside-in and the inside-out approaches have a significant positive impact on innovation and growth. The findings shed light on the need for combined dual organising of both to enable innovation and growth. Moreover, the network context does not significantly utilise theoretical insights on loose coupled systems. A contribution is made to innovation theory on the duality of the outside-in and the inside-out approaches for a combined understanding of the impact on innovation and growth. A contribution is also made to the SME-network for organising the loosely coupled system in a dual approach.

The context of this research aims to analyse the effects of entrepreneurial creativity (EC) empirically on entrepreneurial intention through structural equation modelling by proposing and testing the model that has been developed previously developed. The goal of this study is to understand some of the determinants of entrepreneurial intention among university students consisting of 1,035 respondents. The research findings by testing EC and entrepreneurial intention (EI) models show that student creativity at the university has a very high level of significance in influencing students’ own entrepreneurial intention. Moreover, it is followed by creativity within family and the individuals’ creativity. The research findings will later become recommendations and options for campus policy in fostering student EI, especially for university students. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh keterampilan kewirausahaan, orientasi pasar, dan jaringan usaha terhadap kinerja usaha UMKM di Jakarta dengan kompetensi wirausaha sebagai variabel mediasi. Peneliti menyebarkan kuesioner pada seluruh pemilik usaha UMKM di Jakarta dengan menggunakan purposive dan snowball sampling. Metode analisis data dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode kuantitatif dengan menggunakan Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), yang diolah dengan bantuan Software SmartPLS 3. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan keterampilan kewirausahaan dan jaringan usaha tidak memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap kompetensi wirausaha, tetapi orientasi pasar memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kompetensi wirausaha sedangkan kompetensi wirausaha memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kinerja usaha. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan kompetensi wirausaha tidak mampu memediasi keterampilan wirausaha maupun jaringan usaha terhadap kinerja usaha UMKM di Jakarta, tetapi kompetensi wirausaha mampu memediasi orientasi pasar terhadap kinerja usaha UMKM di Jakarta. Hasil penelitian diharapkan memberikan manfaat bagi pemilik usaha UMKM di Jakarta untuk meningkatkan keterampilan-keterampilan, jaringan usaha, orientasi pasar, kompetensi wirausaha dalam rangka mengembangkan kinerja usaha yang lebih baik. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of entrepreneurial skills, market orientation, and business networks on the business performance of MSMEs in Jakarta with entrepreneurial competence as a mediating variable. Researchers distributed questionnaires to SME business owners in Jakarta using purposive and snowball sampling. The data analysis method in this study is a quantitative method using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), which is processed by SmartPLS 3 Software. The results of this study indicate that entrepreneurial skills and business networks do not have a significant effect on entrepreneurial competence, but market orientation has a significant influence on entrepreneurial competence, while entrepreneurial competence has a significant influence on business performance. The results also show that entrepreneurial competence is not able to mediate entrepreneurial skills and business networks on SME business performance in Jakarta, but entrepreneurial competence is able to mediate market orientation to SME business performance in Jakarta. The results of the research are expected to provide benefits for SME business owners in Jakarta to improve skills, business networks, market orientation, entrepreneurial competence for better business performance.

The objective of the study is to investigate dynamic capabilities, service quality and relationship longevity as determinates of supply chain performance in small to medium enterprises in Gauteng province by focusing on small and medium enterprises in the Vaal region. The study will contribute to the body of knowledge by addressing dynamic capabilities as determinates of supply chain performance in small to medium enterprises. The study employs a quantitative method of data collection. Permission was sought from SME owners. Once permission was granted, the questionnaires were sent out to SME owners. A total 425 participates were chosen to participate in this study. The researcher used the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 24.0) and Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS 24.0) to analyse the data. Sample data from SME owners/managersof Vaal region was collected for the final data analysis of this project. The sample data were analysed by performing a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM). The principal finding of this study reveals that dynamic capabilities, relationship longevity and service quality have an impact on supply chain performance. The conclusions and implications of the research findings are provided and recommendations are suggested.
