A method of structural adaptation of data collection processes has been developed based on reinforcement learning of the decision block on the choice of actions at the structural and functional level subordinated to it, which provides a more efficient distribution of measuring and computing resources, higher reliability and survivability of information collection subsystems of an autonomous distributed system compared to methods of parametric adaptation. In particular, according to the results of experimental studies, the average amount of information collected in one step using the method of structural adaptation is 23.2% more than in the case of using the methods of parametric adaptation. At the same time, the amount of computational costs for the work of the structural adaptation method is on average 42.3% more than for the work of parametric adaptation methods. The reliability of the work of the method of structural adaptation was studied using the efficiency preservation coefficient for different values of the failure rate of data collection processes. Using the recovery rate coefficient for various values of relative simultaneous sudden failures, the survivability of a set of data collection processes organized by the method of structural adaptation has been investigated. In terms of reliability, the structural adaptation method exceeds the parametric adaptation methods by an average of 21.1%. The average survivability rate for the method of structural adaptation is greater than for methods of parametric adaptation by 18.4%. The role of adaptation as an interdisciplinary phenomenon and the necessity of its evolvement in engineering sciences, including mining, is stated. The notion of “open pit transportation system adaptation” is defined. The research was aimed to justify the choice of a methodology for adapting transportation systems in open pit mines, as well as to demonstrate possibility of the transportation system behavior determination and forecasting. In accordance with the definition, the state of a transportation system in the course of adaptation is described. It is shown that the theory of transportation systems for open pits and the theoretical principles are the mainframe. The theory features flexibility, is continuously developed and upgraded, meets the recent methodological standards and can serve the basis of structural and parametric adaptation. The case-studies of the efficient problem solution in mining using the universal simulation model of transportation system functioning in open pit mines developed at the Institute of Mining, Ural Branch RAS are presented. The scope of the applied research embraced: validation of parameters for loading-and-rehandling points in the dump truck- belt-rail transport flowcharts; determination of carrying capacity of rail tracks in open pits; justification of transportation system parameters for open pit mines based on the interactive modeling. The theoretical methodology framework for transportation system adaptation in open pit mines is presented, which is the joint application of the theory of transportation systems in deep open pit mines in structural and structural-and-parametric adaptation and the universal interactive simulation model of transportation system functioning in open pits in parametric adaptation.

Nowadays, computer means that have received the general name BIM (Building Information Modeling) are quite common for the automated design of architectural objects, i.e. building information modeling. The advantage of this approach is the comprehensive consideration of many factors that take place throughout the entire life cycle of various buildings. This helps to improve quality, reduce costs during construction and their further operation.The performed analysis of literary sources on the outlined topics showed that one of the basic components of BIM-technologies is computer geometric modeling. Computer geometric modeling not only visualizes the created objects, but also serves as a reliable basis for the coordination of conflicting requirements for them from a large number of professional disciplines that are involved in construction processes. Therefore, the proper improvement of the means of automated shaping is an urgent task for the further development of architectural design.Computer parametric geometric modeling is quite effective now. Its main advantage lies in providing flexible and productive modifications of the developed building or structure in accordance with the changing requirements of customers, the need to optimize the various technical or economic characteristics, etc. This approach is very progressive in comparison with the previous nonparametric methods. But it also has certain disadvantages. These features define the foundations for improving modern shaping.One of such directions is structural-parametric geometric modeling, which is used in mechanical engineering, in particular in the domestic aviation industry. From a theoretical point of view, it is a generalization of the parametric approach, since it is the simultaneous use of several different parametric models of analyzed object or process. At the same time, the studied variants differ in the composition and interaction of their elements, i.e. the structure, and the values of their parameters. As scientific research has shown, for the rational architectural and construction application the machine-building means of shaping require proper adaptation, i.e. the development of appropriate new methods and techniques of computer modeling. This publication is devoted to these aspects on the example of the designing of orthodox churches.

Neural networks and fuzzy systems are two soft-computing paradigms for system modelling. Adapting a neural or fuzzy system requires to solve two optimization problems: structural optimization and parametric optimization. Structural optimization is a discrete optimization problem which is very hard to solve using conventional optimization techniques. Parametric optimization can be solved using conventional optimization techniques, but the solution may be easily trapped at a bad local optimum. Evolutionary computation is a general-purpose stochastic global optimization approach under the universally accepted neo-Darwinian paradigm, which is a combination of the classical Darwinian evolutionary theory, the selectionism of Weismann, and the genetics of Mendel. Evolutionary algorithms are a major approach to adaptation and optimization. In this paper, we first introduce evolutionary algorithms with emphasis on genetic algorithms and evolutionary strategies. Other evolutionary algorithms such as genetic programming, evolutionary programming, particle swarm optimization, immune algorithm, and ant colony optimization are also described. Some topics pertaining to evolutionary algorithms are also discussed, and a comparison between evolutionary algorithms and simulated annealing is made. Finally, the application of EAs to the learning of neural networks as well as to the structural and parametric adaptations of fuzzy systems is also detailed.

Abstract:This paper describes the adaptation of the formex configuration processing to the computer program Grasshopper 3D and focuses on the applied mathematical solutions. Formex algebra is a mathematical system, primarily used for planning structural systems like truss-grid domes and vaults, together with the programming language Formian. The goal of the research is to allow architects to plan truss-grid structures easily with parametric design tools based on the versatile formex algebra mathematical system. To produce regular structures, coordinate system transformations are used. Owing to the abilities of the parametric design software, it is possible to apply further modifications on the structures and gain special forms. The paper covers the basic dome types, and it introduces additional dome-based structures using special coordinate-system solutions based on a spherical coordinate system, vault structures and their modifications based on a cylindrical coordinate system and circular structures and their modifications based on polar coordinates. Moreover two rotational grid tools are introduced, which uses coordinate system transformations on a unique way to create surfaces of revolutions based on the given generating curve and create grid structures on these surfaces. It also describes the solution technique to implement the triangular grid version of every one of these tools based on diamatic domes. The adaptation of formex algebra and the parametric workflow of Grasshopper together give the possibility of quick and easy design and optimization of special truss-grid domes.

Context. When protecting radar stations from active noise interference acting along the side lobes of the antenna directional pattern, spatial filtering of signals is used, which is realized by using antennas that are spaced apart in space. In this case, the difference in the directions of reception of the useful signal and the interference makes it possible to form the optimal value of the weighting coefficients of the adaptive spatial filters to suppress the interference. However, if the interfering source moves into the main beam region, then the spatial differences between the wanted signal and the interference are reduced. This leads to significant distortion of the main antenna radiation pattern. As a result, the accuracy of measuring the angular coordinates deteriorates, as well as the sensitivity of the radar receiver. The article proposes a structural-parametric method for adapting a spatial filter, which ensures effective operation of the radar when exposed to the active noise interference both from the direction of the side lobes and from the direction of the main beam. Goal. Improving the efficiency of the radar when the active noise interference source is shifted from the direction to the side lobes to the direction of the main beam. Method. The proposed method makes it possible, due to the structural adaptation of the multichannel spatial filter, to exclude the distortion of the main beam of the radiation pattern of the radar antenna and to ensure its operation under conditions of possible interference from the main beam. Structural adaptation of the spatial filter is realized by the current analysis of the weighting coefficients of the compensation blocks. Results. The structural diagram of the multichannel spatial filter by the Gram-Schmidt method with structural-parametric adaptation, as well as the structural diagram of the compensation block, has been improved. As a result of the simulation, the possibility of eliminating distortions of the radiation pattern of the main antenna of the radar in conditions of the possible impact of the active noise interference along the main beam of the radiation pattern of the radar has been confirmed. Conclusions. The scientific novelty of the work consists in the improvement of the signal-processing algorithm at spatial filtering both when exposed to the active noise interference from the direction of the side lobes, and when the interference source is shifted to the direction of the main beam of radar. The practical novelty of the work lies in the development of a structural diagram and a mathematical model of an improved spatial filter with structural-parametric adaptation.

With the flexibility and modularity of the construction system, the ancient Chinese architecture was a configurative system until the modern time when it became figurative with nationalistic symbolism, and lost its flexibility to adapt in different functions. Through this study, the researchers try to exploit and release the powerful adaptation of this configurative system by using the method of parametric design. First of all, according to the modern parametric theory, the logic of the traditional structural system is found out by abandoning the feudal social hierarchical factors. And then, a 3D model of parametric structure with wide adaptability is established in Rhino by using its parametric design plug-in Grasshopper. Finally, on the basis of the modern parametric skin theory, two skin systems are attached to this new structure separately, in order to prove the feasibility of the new skin idea to this structure. Through the introduction of parametric modeling steps, this paper focuses on mining the modern adaptability of Chinese traditional architecture.

Purpose. The purpose is to develop solutions for the implementation of optimal laws of arms positioning, overshoot-free and requiring no post-adjustments. Method. The control model is based on the fuzzy set theory; and the structural modeling methodology is used to study the dynamics indices. Results. The structural scheme of the positional electromechanical system with a fuzzy proportional-plus-differential position controller and the method of control adaptation to the position reference signal change are obtained. Scientific novelty. A model of a fuzzy proportional-differential controller signal adaptation in the structure of a positional electromechanical system is proposed. Practical value. A solution is obtained for the implementation of optimal guidance process, non-overshooting and requiring no post-adjustments, also featuring the maximum weapons speed and minimal sensitivity to parametric disturbances.

The purpose of this article is to define and characterize design and composite solutions of objects of parametric design, their adaptation to the formation of tectonic structure of clothing models and the development of a fashionable costume collection.In the study of basic concepts of parametric design, a comparative analysis was conducted, visual-graphic means of artistic and stylistic generalization and interpretation in various fields ofdesign and architecture were applied.The analysis of collections of designer brands' clothing was carried out by using composite analysis and method of systems design. The system-structural approach and graphical modeling of the form were applied to determine the conceptual decisions, to form the project image of the costume collection and to develop clothing models. The principles and peculiarities of shaping in parametric design, as well as the means of their implementation in the objects of architecture, sculpture, in the design of costume and accessories, are investigated. The development of parametric design in the formation of actual models of clothing, taking into account world trends in the modern market is investigated in the paper. The design and compositional means and structural elements of the parametric design in the project image creating and the development of the clothing collection are characterized. Theoretical substantiation of artistic and stylistic modifications of the project image with the use of parametric elements of forms determined the ways of their transfer and transformation in the development of fashionable clothing of mass demand. Based on the analysis of the creativity of fashion designers in this area, the relevance of the costume design on the basis of parametric characteristics of architectural objects has been revealed. It describes 3D printing tools, sophisticated articulation and repetition of form elements as the guiding principles of parametric design embodied in clothing design. The study for the first time comprehensively considered the means of adapting the features of parametric design objects in the formation of tectonic structure of actual costume models.

The article considers the structure of the existing system of climate monitoring in the Sevastopol region. The quality of information generated by the monitoring system on the example of air temperature characteristics is considered. A description of the current state of temperature conditions in the region as well as its trends is presented. It is concluded that the non-stationarity of the global and regional climate and the need to change the density and structure of observation network leads to the need to transform the system of climate monitoring to the adaptive system. Such a system should be capable of parametric self-adjustment and structural adaptation to changing conditions.

This paper is concerned with the automatic induction of parsimonious neural networks. In contrast to other program induction situations, network induction entails parametric learning as well as structural adaptation. We present a novel representation scheme called neural trees that allows efficient learning of both network architectures and parameters by genetic search. A hybrid evolutionary method is developed for neural tree induction that combines genetic programming and the breeder genetic algorithm under the unified framework of the minimum description length principle. The method is successfully applied to the induction of higher order neural trees while still keeping the resulting structures sparse to ensure good generalization performance. Empirical results are provided on two chaotic time series prediction problems of practical interest.

Abstract This article presents the results of measurements of the braking efficiency of vehicles adapted to be operated by drivers with motor dysfunctions. In such cars, the braking system is extended with an adaptive device that allows braking with the upper limb. This device applies pressure to the original brake in the car. The braking force and thus its efficiency depend on the mechanical ratio in the adapting device. In addition, braking performance depends on the sensitivity of the car’s original braking system and the maximum force that a disabled person can exert on the handbrake lever. Such a person may have limited power in the upper limbs. The force exerted by the driver can also be influenced by the position of the driver’s seat in relation to the handbrake lever. This article describes the research aimed at understanding the influence of the above-mentioned factors on the car braking performance. As a part of the analysis of the test results, a mathematical function was proposed that allows a parametric description of the braking efficiency index on the basis of data on the braking system, adaptation device, driver’s motor limitations, and the position of the driver’s seat. The information presented in this article can be used for the preliminary selection of adaptive devices to the needs of a given driver with a disability and to the vehicle construction.

Contemporary research in the field of creation and development of intelligent systems based on fuzzy logic is carried out mainly in the direction of developing highly efficient methods for their synthesis and structural-parametric optimization. In recent years, due to the intensive development of information technologies and computer hardware, bioinspired intelligent techniques of global search are quite promising for solving problems of synthesis and optimization of fuzzy systems, which include evolutionary and swarm methods, that simulate the processes of natural selection, as well as collective behavior of various groups of social animals, insects and microorganisms in nature. This paper is devoted to the development and study of a method of optimal membership functions search for fuzzy systems based on bioinspired evolutionary algorithms of global optimization. The obtained method allows finding the optimal membership functions of linguistic terms at solving the compromise problems of multicriteria structural optimization of various fuzzy systems in order to increase their efficiency, as well as to reduce the degree of complexity of further parametric optimization. In the proposed method for finding the global optimum of the problem being solved, the iterative procedures are carried out on the basis of combination of several different bioinspired evolutionary algorithms with subsequent analysis of the results obtained and the choice of the best variant of the membership function vector. The paper outlines the theoretical foundations and information model for the implementation of the computational step-by-step method for structural optimization of fuzzy systems, as well as presents various options for carrying out its search procedures. In particular, the features of the application and adaptation to the search problem to be solved of such bioinspired evolutionary algorithms as genetic, artificial immune systems and biogeographic are discussed.

The subject of the study is the adaptability of an industrial enterprise. The purpose of the study is to identify the most significant factors that affect the level of adaptability of an industrial enterprise. The research methods used in the work are observation, collection, analysis and synthesis, comparison, grouping, system and complex approach. Results of the work. Within the framework of this study, the authors analyzed the adaptability of an industrial enterprise, which by its results is logically related to the full range of final results of the enterprise functioning as a production system and is subordinated to the need to achieve a given level of such results. The scope of application of the research results is the innovation policy of the enterprise, focused on improving its positioning in the market. Conclusions. The efficiency, complexity and cost of implementing behavioral, parametric and structural adaptation of an enterprise to a changing external environment increase in the order they are listed. Therefore, the management of the enterprise always faces the problem of choosing the optimal method of adaptation, first, which allows to ensure the preservation of the state of homeostatic equality of the enterprise and its external environment, and secondly, which can be implemented by it both in terms of existing competence and available funds. The optimal adaptation methods are determined by the existing potential of the enterprise, the industry conditions of competitive interaction and the combination of macro-environment factors.

The sustainable design will reach its full potential by studying structure at a deeper level.” Although structure is essential for realizing any architectural design; however, it is not highlighted as an important principle in the six fundamental principles of sustainability. Most of the design researchers are looking for designs and materials that are less harmful to the environment. This paper surveys design for sustainability and eco-design strategies and, the use of codes that affected the design process in architecture by focusing on the structure system as the main issue, analyzing the adaptation of three parametric structures to accommodate climate condition, by studying structure control framework from the sustainability point of view. The structures control sun rays, wind power, material and rainwater. So finally, structures achieved the meaning of the environmental control that supports sustainability through a suggested framework will guide architects and designers to get a new way of understanding the structure system and its importance for sustainable design.

The paper proposes one approach to predict the behavior of complex dynamic systems based on monitoring data presented as time series. The general idea of the approach is a decomposition of a prediction task of the behavior of a complex dynamic system possessing substantial structural and parametric uncertainty. The prediction task is performed in two stages. The first stage realizes the retrospective situational modeling for individual time periods resulting in a set of situational models in the form of simple regressions. The second stage comprises inductive modeling based on the previous situational modeling results. According to the approach, the prediction by means of such combined situational-inductive modeling is aimed at establishing relevant situational models of regression type being adequate in the future within certain limited time periods. The approach allows using simultaneously both the principle of optimization in modeling and the principle of adaptation to situational changes occurring in dynamic systems.

With the deepening of open pit mining, the volume of worked out space increases and, along with it, the potential capacity for storing overburden. At the same time, the pits completely allocated for the internal dumps are used only by the end of the period of the open pit operation. The known theoretical approaches to determining the location of the internal dump are little implemented in the practice of surface mining, which is explained by two reasons. First, standard design solutions are based on wellknown theoretical provisions; secondly, a formalized template approach to substantiating certain design developments in the field of dumping of internal dumps prevails, which pushes them towards their fragmentary rather than integrated implementation. With regard to the conditions of the Kuzbass open-pit mines, the article proposes a modernized interpretation for the formation of structural schemes of the sequence of quarry fields on the basis of constructive-and-parametric studies of a multivariate adaptation of the internal dumping mode.

One of the ways to increase the efficiency of the process of managing continuous dynamic objects is to develop new or improve existing control systems based on modern methods involving the achievements of information technology. The article deals with the creation of highly efficient control algorithms for technological objects, operating in conditions of uncertainty, designed to manage real-life objects. An algorithm is proposed for the structural-parametric adaptation of the PID parameters (proportional-integral-differential) -regulator, which allows to reduce the number of iterations in the learning process of the fuzzy-logical inference algorithm by reducing empty solutions. To determine the empty solutions, hybrid algorithms are used, which include modernized genetic and immune algorithms, which in turn allow you to configure the adaptation parameters of artificial neural network models. A block diagram of an automated control system for executive mechanisms is proposed, which includes a block for adapting the correction of not only parameters, but also the structure of the control system, which allows to reduce the error in the results of training a neuro-fuzzy network from 8 to 1%. The proposed algorithm is simple to implement on microcontrollers, which allows it to be implemented in the tasks of process control in the conditions of information uncertainty in real conditions at the operation stage.

Introduction. Creation and development of efficient agricultural complexes providing high yields at minimal time, material, and energy costs is impossible without the use of automatic control systems (ACS), which allow for maintaining the microclimate of the greenhouse with high accuracy. Improvements of the microclimate by ASC are aimed at neutralizing the influence of parametric perturbations of processes inside and outside the greenhouse. Using the example of a temperature control channel in a greenhouse with a heating circuit based on hot piped water supply, an adaptive iterative (search) algorithm for adjusting the components of a proportional-integral-differential (PID) controller in the heating circuit is proposed to ensure the required quality of the control process. Materials and Methods. The management is based on a parametrically uncertain model of temperature in the greenhouse, the structure of which, based on the principle of superposition, is transformed into a form with control and disturbances concentrated on an output coordinate. The use of an adaptive PID controller is based on the real-time analysis of a database containing trends of the controlled process. Using operators of Database Managment System or SQL language, queries evaluate regulation quality in accord with quality assessment. Proportional and differential components of the PID controller are adjusted so that the control system works on the verge of switching to auto-oscillation mode. The resulting static error is compensated by a change in the driving force. Results. Simulation of the real structure of a single-circuit automatic control system with temperature in the greenhouse with built-in regulating, executive and measuring elements, with a delay of a coolant movement was carried out using the software MVTU (SimIn- Tech). The proposed adaptation algorithm, consisting of the additive adjustment of the PID controller coefficients and being conveniently implemented within the SCADA system, was shown to provide the minimum oscillatory temperature maintenance for arbitrary parametric perturbations in the presence of the delay. Discussion and Conclusion. The proposed adaptation algorithm provides for compensation for model uncertainty and disturbances, while achieving the required accuracy of maintaining the temperature in the greenhouse. Results of the study will serve as the basics for development of multi-contour ACS microclimate greenhouses with the examination of the impact and compensation of parametric and structural uncertainty, inertia and nonlinearities of real elements. Our results may be used in many sectors of the national economy to study the general and applied problems of digital adaptive process control.

A technique of synthesis of a wireless digital communication network with package switching, providing transfer of video messages of real time scale between elements of multipurpose information-operating system in conditions of high failure rate of central elements, is considered. As conceptual model of a telecommunication network – the network of the mixed structure, including multipurpose devices, constructed on the basis of standards of a broadband radio access with switching of packages and two interconnected levels of network interaction of elements (local and main) is accepted. The technique of synthesis of a wireless network is based on the multilevel, combined adaptation of a telecommunication network in the conditions of refusals of central elements, which primary goal is rational change of parameters, functions of network elements in close interrelation with purposeful transformation of structure of telecommunication system subnetworks. The main objective of carrying out the combined adaptation of the network consists in achievement of necessary throughput of communication system depending on degree of failure rate of central elements. Properties of multilevel adaptation were investigated in the course of realization of the combined (structurally-parametrical) synthesis with use of the aggregate approach of modelling of difficult technical systems. Efficiency of the specified technique is proven by the results of the imitating experiment with use of the aggregate model of a wireless network of data transmission with switching of packages, obtained previously. The experimental data, received at natural research of networks of a broadband radio communication on the basis of standards 802.11 b/g/n, have shown, that time of processing of packages of a message essentially depends on use of existing ways of adaptation. In particular, application of effective algorithms of adaptation (both parametrical and structural) will allow to reduce the time of finding of details (packages) in broadband communication devices by several times and, thereby, to provide demanded throughput of the network functioning in the conditions of refusals of central elements.

The paper presents a Rayleigh–Ritz based non-discretization method of analysis for the inelastic local buckling of rectangular steel plates subjected to applied in-plane axial, bending and shear actions with various boundary conditions. Use is made of the pb-2 representation of the displacement function as the product of a domain polynomial and a boundary polynomial. The constitutive model for the plate is an adaptation of the von Mises yield criterion and the associated flow rule presented in an infinitesimal form, and which leads to an incremental and iterative method of solution. The convergence and accuracy of the solutions are demonstrated, and it is shown that the method of analysis is computationally feasible for the solution of inelastic bifurcative plate instability problems. A parametric study is then undertaken for a range of plate boundary conditions under various regimes of applied loading.

The chemotaxis pathway of the bacterium Rhodobacter sphaeroides shares many similarities with that of Escherichia coli . It exhibits robust adaptation and has several homologues of the latter's chemotaxis proteins. Recent theoretical results have correctly predicted that the E. coli output behaviour is unchanged under scaling of its ligand input signal; this property is known as fold-change detection (FCD). In the light of recent experimental results suggesting that R. sphaeroides may also show FCD, we present theoretical assumptions on the R. sphaeroides chemosensory dynamics that can be shown to yield FCD behaviour. Furthermore, it is shown that these assumptions make FCD a property of this system that is robust to structural and parametric variations in the chemotaxis pathway, in agreement with experimental results. We construct and examine models of the full chemotaxis pathway that satisfy these assumptions and reproduce experimental time-series data from earlier studies. We then propose experiments in which models satisfying our theoretical assumptions predict robust FCD behaviour where earlier models do not. In this way, we illustrate how transient dynamic phenotypes such as FCD can be used for the purposes of discriminating between models that reproduce the same experimental time-series data.

This paper presents the design of an ℒ1 adaptive control system for the stabilization of a two-dimensional aeroelastic system with structural nonlinearities and unsteady aerodynamics, using a single trailing-edge control surface. This model describes the plunge and pitch motion of a prototypical wing. It is assumed that its parameters are unknown and external disturbances are present. The unsteady aerodynamics are modeled with an approximation to Theodorsen's theory. The system exhibits limit cycle oscillations beyond a critical speed. Based on the ℒ1 adaptive control theory, a control law is developed for the trajectory control of the integral of the pitch angle. The control system includes a state predictor, a projection algorithm-based adaptation law designed based on the Lyapunov method, and a stabilizing control law. For the synthesis of the control law only the pitch angle and its derivative are measured. Simulation results show that in the closed-loop system, the aeroelastic vibrations are suppressed, despite parametric uncertainties and gust loads. Furthermore the performance limits of this ℒ1 adaptive law with respect to the freestream velocity and strength of gust load are examined.

IntroductionA significant amount of evidence from structural brain imaging studies provide new insights into the neuroanatomical basis of schizophrenia.ObjectivesTo investigate whole brain gray matter (GM) differences between schizophrenia patients grouped according to the number of psychotic episodes and normal controls (NC).AimTo determine regions of GM differences in schizophrenia patients grouped according to the number of psychotic episodes.MethodsA group of 53 schizophrenia patients (23 with up to 3 psychotic episodes, 15 with 4 to 6 and 15 with 7 or more psychotic episodes) and 35 age and gender matched NC were included. Voxel-based morphometry (VBM) is an adaptation of the statistical parametric mapping technique that allows investigators to quantitatively examine brain structural changes. VBM data of schizophrenia patients divided into 3 groups: up to 3, 4 to 6 and 7 or more episodes were compared with NC.ResultsPatients with up to 3 episodes had reduced gray matter volume (GMV) in the right claustrum, right Brodmann areas 6 and 13 and left Brodmann area 10, patients with 4 to 6 episodes in left Brodmann areas 25, 35 and 37 and in right Brodmann area 13, and those with 7 or more episodes showed decreased GMV in left substantia nigra and left Brodmann area 10 compared with NC.ConclusionGMV reduction in schizophrenia varies depending on the number of psychotic episodes. The affection of different brain areas indicates separated neurobiological mechanisms underlying the stage and the progression of illness.

Abstract Projections of the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems are a key prerequisite for the planning of adaptation strategies, yet they are inevitably associated with uncertainty. Identifying, quantifying, and communicating this uncertainty is key to both evaluating the risk associated with a projection and building confidence in its robustness. We review how uncertainties in such projections are handled in marine science. We employ an approach developed in climate modelling by breaking uncertainty down into (i) structural (model) uncertainty, (ii) initialization and internal variability uncertainty, (iii) parametric uncertainty, and (iv) scenario uncertainty. For each uncertainty type, we then examine the current state-of-the-art in assessing and quantifying its relative importance. We consider whether the marine scientific community has addressed these types of uncertainty sufficiently and highlight the opportunities and challenges associated with doing a better job. We find that even within a relatively small field such as marine science, there are substantial differences between subdisciplines in the degree of attention given to each type of uncertainty. We find that initialization uncertainty is rarely treated explicitly and reducing this type of uncertainty may deliver gains on the seasonal-to-decadal time-scale. We conclude that all parts of marine science could benefit from a greater exchange of ideas, particularly concerning such a universal problem such as the treatment of uncertainty. Finally, marine science should strive to reach the point where scenario uncertainty is the dominant uncertainty in our projections.

Plate implants are the most used internal fixators for the surgical treatments of the bone fractures. In clinical cases where there is a requirement to use reconstruction plates, and/or to stabilize the fracture, adaptation of plate shape (e.g. bending) to the patient anatomy is required, and it is usually done during the surgery. In order to eliminate the need for intra-operative bending of plates, precontoured plates can be used. These are patient specific implants whose shape and geometry is adapted to the anatomy and morphology of the specific patient. In order to create a patient specific 3D model of the plate implant, the bone model acquired through medical imaging (e.g. Computed Tomography - CT) is commonly used. By the application of various CAD techniques, the volume model of specific plate implant can be created, and used for the production of the plate, by conventional or additive manufacturing technologies. In this paper the authors present a new approach to the creation of a 3D parametric model of the patient specific plate implant for distal humerus. By using such model the surgeon can perform preoperative planning and adapt shape of plate to the specific patient before the surgery, and in this way he can improve pre, intra and post-operative processes.

Background: Pre-eclampsia is a vascular related disorder of pregnancy, Despite the increasing research efforts in the field, the etiology and pathogenesis of this disorder remain elusive, resulting in failure to develop specific screening, preventive and treatment strategies. Peripheral vasodilatation and angiogenesis are critical components of physiological adaptation in normal pregnancy. Women who have later developed preeclampsia had significant structural capillary density rarefaction early in the pregnancy before the onset of preeclampsia.Methods: Case control, comparative study was carried out at our institute. 30 pregnant participants were recruited in each group after satisfying the inclusion criteria. Data was collected by using dermatoscope (200X magnification). Statistical analysis was done by non-parametric test- Mann-Whitney test as blood pressure was not normally distributed among participants. Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used to make correlation between skin capillary densities and blood pressures.Results: On applying Mann-Whitney test, mean rank for systolic and diastolic blood pressure at 20 weeks for both groups were not significant statistically, mean rank for systolic and diastolic blood pressure between 28-36 weeks of gestation for both groups were significant statistically. After testing, skin capillary density came significantly less in hypertensive group as compare to normotensive pregnant participant of same gestational ages. Spearman’s correlation coefficient came negative for systolic and positive for diastolic blood pressure at 28-36 weeks of gestation.Conclusions: Authors conclude that estimating the skin capillary density provides a potentially useful clinical marker in the prediction of preeclampsia and dermatoscope is an especially attractive clinical tool.

Mobile structures of the ground-based robotic complex (RTC) are investigated as an active component formation of an integrated project “object-system”, which is operated in a destabilizing environment. The relevant problem of minimizing the influence of external destabilizing factors on the operation of mobile spatially-distributed structures of the ground-based RTC is stated in the descriptions of the conceptual apparatus of complex, poorly formalized multicomponent technical systems. Following the logic of this approach, the basic principles of distributed control are determined and their applications are implemented in the mobile structures of the ground-based RTC with elements of subsidiarity. The quintessence of the latter is represented by the technology of multi-antenna MIMO systems, which made it possible to determine the trade-offs of using classical transmission methods and strategies for receiving and processing MIMO signals in the multi-sensory channels of the information-control system (ICS) and radio communication with the data transmission system and commands. Given the complexity of performing the stated tasks, a set of technological functions of reducing the influence of destabilizing factors and their practical variations in the algorithms for obtaining the target result are proposed. A situational model of reducing (minimizing) information losses at the output of the information-control system of the ground-based robotic complex under destabilization has been built. Options have been proposed to achieve the target result: integration of structural and parametric adaptation methods, MIMO technologies, code division multiplexing techniques with CDMA channels, taking into account the heterogeneity factor of information exchange channels and the artificial redundancy of the system itself with respect to the number of external interference sources.

Many modern industrial production facilities consist of sequentially operating systems with a continuous supply of technological product. The task of stabilizing the qualitative and quantitative parameters of output products at all stages of such production is a very difficult task and often leads to additional time and money costs. Therefore, improving the efficiency of these processes is a relevant issue. A review of analogous solutions to this type of problem revealed the variability of their authors’ approaches. However, all of them are aimed at optimizing existing control trajectories, rather than creating a new, more accurate trajectory. Earlier, as part of the description of the basic principles of structural and parametric optimization of the management of production processes of this type, only the improved work of technological subsystems was reported. This paper describes the principles of control over the proposed dual buffering system and its interactive interaction with other technological subsystems. The introduction of buffering systems makes sequential technological subsystems more independent of each other. That makes it possible to increase the degree of freedom for each control subsystem and thereby improve the efficiency of finding the optimal mode of operation of the entire cybernetic system. A conceptual model of the dual buffering system was built, the stabilization of the quantitative parameter at the output of the buffering system was substantiated through the development of an adaptation mechanism, and simulation modeling of the synthesized system was carried out. The study shows that the use of buffering systems could improve the quality of energy utilization and reduce the wear of technological mechanisms by 14 % in general

To improve the quality of recognition of air objects, it is proposed to use a priori information contained in reference portraits, which are formed adaptively to the conditions of observation. A decisive rule is formulated on the assignment of the observed target to the k-th group under the assumption that the signal and background are normal stationary random processes with zero mean values and the covariance matrices of portraits are known. The quality criterion of recognition is proposed, the result of which implementation is a decision with a probability not below the required Ptr. The price for the implementation of this criterion is the decision content change. For the implementation of the radar recognition system (HRD) with structural-parametric adaptation of the radar it is proposed to introduce into the system a device of the quality and control forecast, which conducts the assessment (forecast) of the amount of information and change the decisive rule of the HRD system in accordance with the received assessment. An indicator of the amount of information extracted by the recognition system from the radar portrait (RLP) is introduced, which is thought as a measure of reducing uncertainty in the decision-making process on the target group with the help of the RLR system. It is shown that the amount of extracted information depends not only on the parameters of the RLP, but also on the algorithm of its processing. The potential amount of information about the goal of the k-th information group contained in the RLP is determined, the concept of a sufficiently informative portrait with the recognition of the goals of all groups is introduced. The concepts of differential and integral contrast are formalized in the case of arbitrarily correlated RLP. The introduced concepts of differential and integral contrasts for the special case of uncorrelated RLP are extended to the General case of arbitrarily correlated RLP.

Introduction. The gained experience in the field of building automation and IoT technologies yields a new approach to the management of engineering subsystems that provides stated parameters of operation quality throughout the entire building lifecycle. This paper explores compensatory and predictive algorithms in the scope of the aforementioned approach to manifest control over building climate parameters utilizing IoT controllers. This research aims to improve the management efficiency of smart house engineering subsystems through the implementation of a control system (CS) capable to compensate disturbances and predict their variations using an IoT controller and an analytical server. Materials and methods. In order to improve the quality of control, various algorithms based on analysis of data collected from controllers can be employed. The collected data about the object accumulated over the entire period of operation can be used to build a model for the purposes of predictive control. The predictive control allows to forecast the parameters having an effect on the object and compensate it beforehand under the inertia conditions. The continuous adaptation and adjustment of the CS model to operating conditions allows permanent optimizing the settings of the control algorithm ensuring the efficient operation of local control loops. Results. The CS is based on an IoT controller and able to predict and compensate potential disturbances. The compensation algorithm is updated depending on the behavior of the object properties, quality of control and availability of data most suitable for identification. Conclusions. The capabilities of the control system based on the IoT controller and generation of a compensatory and predictive control signal with the algorithm hosted at a cloud server are demonstrated on the indoor temperature control model. The following simulation models of the indoor temperature variation process are considered: model without CS, model with proportional plus integral controller with disturbance compensation and model with IoT controller-based CS with disturbance compensation. Structural and parametric identification of the models are accomplished by means of active experiment.

In the simplest cases, P-, PI- and PID-controllers with rigid (unchanged) parameter settings are used to control technological processes. If the mathematical model of the control object contains unknown disturbing influences and parameters that change during the control process, then a digital control system with a learning model should be used. The tasks of control, analysis and modeling of various processes and systems are solved using their mathematical models. The choice of a model is dictated by the conditions of implementation and the requirement of adequacy. The problem of developing control algorithms under uncertainty occupies one of the central places in modern control theory. To solve the arising problems of structural and parametric identification, as a rule, methods, and algorithms of the theory of adaptive control systems are used. The application of the principles of adaptation allows to ensure high accuracy of modeling with a significant change in the dynamic properties of the system under study, to unify individual subsystems and their blocks; reduce the development and debugging time of the system. This article discusses the problem of studying a digital adaptive system for turning the blades of guide apparatus (GA) of an axial compressor of gas turbine engines (GTE). The aim of the study is to increase the efficiency of the control system for turning the blades of the GA using a digital adaptive system. The gas-dynamic stability of the GTE axial compressor under changes in external conditions and engine throttling is provided by air bypass and turning the blades of the first and last compressor stages. The statement of the problem of synthesis of the system of adaptive control of the rotation of the blades of the GA compressor of the gas turbine engine is carried out. A mathematical model of the ACS in the canonical form “model of the system in the state space” and an algorithm for turning the blades of the GA using an adaptive PI-controller have been developed. Simulation modeling of ACS was carried out using the Matlab / Simulink software package. When implementing an adaptive PI-controller, the pressure deviation downstream of the compressor stage from the required value is reduced to 0.4 %.

Living bone tissue, like many other connective tissues, is a structural material that adapts its form and microstructure to changing environmental loading conditions. Bone tissue adapts not only its shape, but also its density and the details of its microstructure including its anisotropy. The anisotropy of bone is adapted in both its degree or strength and in the orientation of its principal axes of symmetry. These adaptive features of bone tissue are often referred to as aspects of Wolff’s law, although, strictly speaking, the term “Wolff’s law” applies only to the structural adaptation of spongy or trabecular bone. In this paper the composition, microstructure, mechanical properties and structurally adaptive features of bone are briefly reviewed. An algebraic formulation of Wolff’s law at remodeling equilibrium is described, and the nature of an evolutionary Wolff’s law is sketched.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate the structural changes needed for project-based organisations (PBOs) to synthesise their project operations and services following the servitisation strategy. It addresses the question of how PBOs should change their organisational structure fitting with service provision strategy.Design/methodology/approachThis study followed an exploratory research method using a single in-depth case with evidence collected from 51 project managers from five different industry sectors: construction, oil and gas, IT, logistics and health careFindingsCapitalising on organisational design theory, it has been found that successfully extending PBOs' outcomes into a system of both project output and extra services requires an adjustment of organisational structure that creates greater value for both companies and customers. This required adjustment has been divided into five main categories: (1) collaboration cross-project and customers; (2) flexible workflow, (3) decentralised decision-making, (4) wide span of control and (5) project governance. However, the findings indicate that success can only be ensured by particular mutually coordinated organisational designs with a suitable balance of products and servicesPractical implicationsThis study presents vital indicators to PBOs practitioners when deploying servitisation within their operational strategy by adjusting the organisation's design.Social implicationsServitisation could add both economic and social values for a diverse set of project stakeholders. However, the sustainability performance of servitisation in servitised project-based organisations is an outcome of reducing the discrepancy between project operation and service provision activities.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the body of knowledge and proposes a structural alteration process in PBOs to help align project operations and service provision activities. The parametric structural schemes, structural-the parametric models and the transfer functions of the electroelastic actuators for the nanomechatronics systems are obtained. The transfer functions of the piezoactuator are determined under the generalized piezoelectric effect. The changes in the elastic compliance and the stiffness of the piezoactuator are found, taking into account the type of control. The decision wave equation and the structural-parametric models of the electroelastic actuators are obtained. Effects of the geometric and physical parameters of the electroelastic actuators and the external load on its static and dynamic characteristics are determined. The parameteric structural schemes for the electroelastic actuators for the nanomechatronics systems are obtained. The transfer functions are determined. For calculation of the automatic control systems for the nanometric movements with the electroelastic actuators are obtained the parametric structural schemes and the transfer functions of actuators. Static and dynamic characteristics of the electroelastic actuators are determined. The application of electroelastic actuators solves problems of the precise matching in microelectronics and nanotechnology, compensation of temperature and gravitational deformations, atmospheric turbulence by wave front correction. By solving the wave equation with allowance for the corresponding equations of the piezoelectric effect, the boundary conditions on loaded working surfaces of the electroelastic actuator, the strains along the coordinate axes, it is possible to construct the structural parametric model of the actuator. The transfer functions and the parametric structural schemes of the electroelastic actuator are obtained from the equations describing the corresponding structural parametric models and taking into account the opposed electromotive force of the electroelastic actuator for the nanomechatronics systems.
