Purpose The purpose of this paper is to give a comprehensive and updated analysis of the available literature on hospital dashboards. Design/methodology/approach A search of the current literature was performed by searching electronic databases, including Google Scholar, EBSCO and Medline, as well as books. Findings In all, 48 manuscripts consisting of peer reviewed articles, conference proceedings, case reports and text books were included in this review. Practical implications Despite the numerous advantages of performance dashboards, several authors have mentioned a number of challenges. It was evident from the literature that any setting requires significant effort, especially to ensure the quality of data being collected. In fact, significant investment, both in terms of financial and human resources, is required to achieve an effective dashboard. Furthermore, most of the studies available in the literature were individual case reports or anecdotal accounts rather than empirical studies. Thus, further research is required to ascertain the effectiveness of performance dashboards. In view of these findings, each organisation should make its own decisions whether or not to adopt performance dashboards. Originality/value Most of the literature is fragmented as it reports the use of different types of dashboards, namely strategic, tactical and operational, as separate tools. This literature review contributes to knowledge as it brings together the different types of dashboards and the cascading effect of one dashboard onto another in order to achieve and retain organisational alignment with the overall strategic goals.

In this article, I consider how the redesign of vehicle dashboards has restructured car-related data processes. I do so by charting the emergence of two such processes enabled by the redesign of vehicle dashboards: firstly, the transformation of ‘geodata’ into ‘navigational data’ with the integration of voice-activated navigation systems into vehicle dashboards, and secondly, the transformation of ‘vehicle data’ into ‘driving data’ in the convergence, and customization, of dashboard features and functionality. Both transformations are enabled through strategic design decisions, persuading drivers to participate in novel practices they might otherwise not. Firstly, in that voice-activation is depicted as a seamless, unmediated interface between the normal, natural speech of a driver, and the vehicle itself. Secondly, through the strategy of control, the driver is persuaded to believe they have full(er) customizable power within, and of, the vehicle. The systems discussed here – a voice-activated navigation system built on the What3words platform, and a ‘widescreen’ dashboard in a range of Mercedes-Benz vehicles – are representative of broader efforts within the automotive industry to cultivate a newly ‘datafied’ driving experience.

At universities worldwide, the notion of a ‘smart campus’ is becoming increasingly appealing as a response to the multitude of challenges that impact campus development and operation. Smart campus tools are widely used to support students and employees, optimise space use and save energy. Although smart campus tools are supposed to support campus managers in their decision-making processes, the use of the information delivered by smart campus tools and their application in organisational processes has received little attention. In this paper, we focus on the use of dashboards in the connection of IoT information to strategic decision-making processes in the management of university campuses. To this end, we developed a briefing approach for dashboards that expresses the needs of campus management and matches the structure of decision-making processes. In two cases, dashboards based on this approach were use-tested by stakeholders for defining information requirements for IoT applications. The results suggest that users are able to use dashboards for assessing portfolio performance and determining interventions. Through iteration the usability of the dashboard is improved and information requirements are refined, resulting in a brief for a campus management dashboard. The results suggest that the briefing approach can be used to determine IoT information requirements, though further research is required to study indications and contra-indications of the proposed method.

AbstractIn the age of the fourth industrial revolution, the competition between enterprises is fierce to operate efficiently and hold on to their customers. Due to lack of time and methodology, many leaders struggle to establish optimized strategies for their businesses. To do so, the key processes need to be measured using dashboards that proactively help decisions making, facilitate the strategy execution and keep the employees focused. The purpose of this article is to identify the design features of a risk analysis dashboard and their effects on the perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness.

In today’s competitive environment, one of the new tools in the field of information technology is business or organizational dashboards that are a backup in the process of strategic management of organizations. The purpose of the current research is to provide a framework to design the healthcare dashboard through technical architecture with fulfilling the decision-makers’ requirements. In this study, a common qualitative research method, metasynthesis, is applied, including a seven-step set of research questions, conducting systematic literature search and selection of suitable papers, data extraction, analysis and findings of the qualitative composition, quality control, and presentation of findings. During this process, 102 articles were found by saturation of information resources and then 12 articles were selected for extracting data using acceptance and rejection criteria. A critical evaluation method was used to evaluate the quality of selected articles. After investigating the selected articles and scoring them, in terms of quality, one article was very good, 10 articles were good, and one article was moderate. Then, with regard to the principles and guidelines of technical architecture, the required information was extracted from the selected articles and was analyzed with the method of open, axial, and selective coding. Following the steps of metasynthesis methods, the principles extracted with major and minor titles principles and guidelines in the form of multilayered system architecture including presentation layer, application layer, data layer, and technical infrastructure layer were classified. In the obtained framework, 15 indicators as the main principles and 66 subcriteria as the subsidiary principles for the design and technical architecture of enterprise dashboards were identified.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyse hospital dashboards’ visibility of information at different management levels to improve quality and performance in an acute general hospital. Design/methodology/approach Data were generated via 21 semi-structured interviews across different management levels. Findings All management levels had greater visibility of information, could make informed decisions, and registered performance improvement. Specifically, waiting time improved, however since introduction of hospital dashboards was work-in-progress at time of study, managers could not record improvement in terms of cost reductions, clinical effectiveness, patient safety and patient satisfaction. Different managerial levels had different visibility with top management having the greatest. Research limitations/implications In single case studies, where only one context is used, the findings cannot be reproduced in different contexts; even though most of the results could be matched with the current literature. Practical implications The need to have balanced key performance indicators that take into account other facets of improvements, apart from time, has been emphasised. Furthermore, if middle and departmental managers have greater visibility, this would allow them to work towards a strategic fit between the departments that they manage with the rest of the hospital. Originality/value There is scant literature regarding performance dashboards’ enhancement of visibility of information at different management levels. Furthermore, according to the authors’ knowledge, no other paper has tried to identify and discuss the different levels of information, which should be visible from bedside to board namely to management, clinicians and public.

Background and problem area: Car manufacturing has a major influence in the economy of developed countries. Car manufacturing focus has shifted towards car dealership business, because of the EU Regulation from 2002, and the car dealership companies' independency and the opportunity to grow at the same time as competition increased. This combination has created the need for en overall control structure for a car dealership business, which also is shown from the control structure needed in the case study company Liljas in Kalmar.  Purpose: This study aims to generate knowledge surrounding a clearer control structure for the car dealership business through an proactive performance measurement system, which intends to convey effective decisions through a visualization tool. Furthermore, the practical purpose of the study was to describe Lilja's existing performance measurement to develop a proactive performance measurement systems as Lilja can use for the operational level through its internal information network.   Method: The study has been designed as en qualitative case study in the car dealership company Lilja. The study is created from an deductive approach and from that basis the conceptual model was created. The model was interwoven with interviews as constituted empirical evidence for the study. The model and Lilja depth interviews has been combined and analyzed through pattern analysis.    Conclusion: In summary, the study found that it is not the direct performance measurement that forms the basis for a proactive work in a car dealership business. Instead, it's the way performance measurement is visualized through a dashboard, in combined with the employees' knowledge of the market that generate a proactive management and a proactive behavior throught the employees. It is therfore indirectly a performancemeasurementsystem measures create proactively effects provided that they are communicated and visualized in a way that integrate the employees' knowledge about the customer's changing needs.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between strategic information system planning (SISP) and environmental uncertainty in the South African small, micro and medium enterprises (SMME) sector. The independent variable was strategic information systems planning process (SISPP) with five phases, namely: strategic awareness, situation analysis, strategy conception, strategy formulation and strategy implementation. The results suggested that some SISPP phases are more effective in different environments, and these phases can lead to SISPS. For example, strategy implementation was fully supported in the context of this study, which means that more strategy implementation leads to SISPS in SMMEs. The South African SMME sector is not immune to the influence of environmental uncertainty.

Persuasive technology is interactive computing systems designed to change user behaviors to desired one in different application domains and it cannot be successful without effective utilization of persuasive strategies. Fogg’s model provides a clear guideline in that motivation, ability and triggers should be provided for users to walk across the action line. The shape of the action line, however, implies persuasive strategies aiming for motivations or abilities repetitively may not work. Previous research demonstrated that persuasive strategies could be successfully applied to improve energy conservation, but there was also evidence implying that inappropriate combination of persuasive strategies might cause negative effects. The current study attempted to investigate this potential negative effect based on Fogg’s theoretical framework and to relate components in Fogg’s model to the well-established technology acceptance model (TAM). A pilot framework was proposed to deal with difficulties in conducting energy conservation experiment in realistic settings and to enable the investigation to be done in the laboratory with limited resource and time. The proposed experimental framework included construction of user scenarios which account for familiarizing naïve participants with a background of intended users and development of user interface prototypes which simulate information dashboards used for energy conservation. Behind the prototypes algorithms for calculating energy consumption and a virtual Life Quality Index (LQI) were designed to not only provide experimental participants realistic feedback about their performance in energy consumption but also a mechanism to balance their energy use with life quality, a state that is desired in reality but difficult to achieve in simulation, so that comfort and convenience would not be sacrifice too much and traded for excessive energy consumption. Four specific prototypes were developed based on the framework and different combinations of three persuasive strategies, historical comparison (HC), Monetary Units (MU), Appliance Breakdown (AB), were applied to them. Energy conservation comparing to given historical records and assumed ideal performance was collected and analyzed from 16 participants using these prototypes. Their behaviors in setting parameters on the interface as well as subjective responses collected through a questionnaire according to a modified TAM were also recorded and processed. The results showed that participants using a prototype combined HC and AB strategies (Prototype 3) were able to have comparable energy consumption performance with the one with HC only (Prototype 1) and the one with HC and MU (Prototype 2), without sacrificing too much LQI as participants using Prototype 4 (the one with all three strategies) did. The Prototype 3 was also the one which received comparable subjective appraisers in terms of ability, satisfaction, and usefulness in questionnaires as Prototype 4 did. In contrast, Prototype 2 which was equipped with also 2 strategies did not rate as well as Prototype 3 but considered inferior in ability, satisfaction and intention to use. As for the modified TAM, correlational results also confirmed ability was linked with perceived usefulness while motivation was associated with attitude. The frustration assumed to be responsible for the negative effect of combing HC and MU was not found and its relation to the intention of use was not supported (it affected satisfaction, though). The current study proposed a workable model for future study to conduct simulation for energy conservation behaviors and inspired several theoretical topics for future research such as possible sources for negative effects, the effectiveness of combining persuasive strategies in the same dimension based on Fogg’s model, and the integration of TAM with the Fogg’s model.

In this study I sought to know deep the Balanced Scorecard model and use it in a simple, systematic and Portuguese way for the development of Small Medium Size Companies in Portugal. The main target of this work was to create an economic, simple, structured, quick implementing model with low maintenance costs, for the evaluation and monitoring of the strategy in Small Medium Size Companies. Regardless of the industry you're working in strategic management always seeks to reach goals, but often without knowing how. It turns out that these targets are often not drawn with the advantages and disadvantages and not measured or monitored. This study is divided into two parts: the first part was the deep analysis and considering the masters of Balanced Scorecard and Strategic such as Kaplan & Norton and Porter respectively, in the second part it took out a questionnaire which is not conclusive because of the amount of responses, but was predominant for interviews and the creation of the model. The questionnaire and the interviews were important to know the day-to-day reality of Portuguese business procedures and the way how to create a model which can be used by everybody and without significant costs. I created a model which I named SOM (Strategic Overview Map) It will help for sure the Small Medium Size Companies to follow their vision with a strategy objectives in order to reduce costs and to reduce the time in managing the day-to-day work and to give free time to the managers to dedicate their self in long term investments.

This chapter focuses on the contemporary approaches of research being used to understand the actions of EDCs and emerging high-throughput screening approaches to examine new and existing chemicals for endocrine-disrupting activities. Concepts arising from the 2007 NRC report “Toxicity Testing in the 21st Century: A Vision and a Strategy” are delineated and the ongoing development of predictive computational toxicology approaches are addressed. The screening strategies being developed under the Tox21 and Toxicity Forecaster (ToxCast) programs are described, with a review of advantages, challenges, and progress to date. There is a brief overview of the EPA’s Interactive Chemical Safety for Sustainability (iCSS) Dashboard as a portal for accessing the ToxCast data through ToxCastDB, and the EPA’s Aggregated Computational Toxicology data warehouse (ACToR), which contains all publicly available EPA chemical toxicity data. Additional challenges related to the inability of current screening approaches to address complex physiology involved in neuroendocrine disruption are addressed.

Abstract Electrical submersible pump (ESP) is the main artificial lift system in Shushufindi field. These systems besides facing high gas production, high scale and corrosion tendencies, also have to deal with surface fluid handling and electrical power limitations which combined impose challenges to optimize the ESP system. In perspective, the digitalization initiative has been key to integrate data in order to have a big picture of the actual field condition and ultimately to enhance oil production. Various dashboards have been created using the business intelligence tool to provide real time information. ESP dashboard shows opportunities to optimize the ESP unit by integrating real time and manual entry data to optimize frequency, surface equipment, opportunities for pump upsizing, and re-designing the ESP downhole equipment. The result of this analysis is derived from ESP simulation, nodal analysis, chemical treatment monitoring and real time surveillance of the ESP parameters. Dashboards of water handling, electrical power, and chemical treatment are utilized to support process analysis providing current field status, with also the feedback from operational and engineering recommendations. Comprehensive real time monitoring resulted in average of 500 bopd less production deferment in the last 12 months as the result of early detection and a proper operational optimization (chemical treatment, gas flaring, and choke optimization) of the unstable wells. Strategic decisions have been executed to ensure the availability of water handling capacity and electrical power for each production station such as stimulating disposal wells, cleaning injection flowlines, and repairing power generations. Up to 3,000 bopd total incremental has been generated in the last 12 months as the result of 17 upsizing operations, optimizing frequency in 68 wells, and optimizing surface equipment in 35 wells. The associated mean time between failures (MTBF) of ESP system has increased over the time from 224 days in 2013 to 674 days in 2020. Digitalization is a game changer for optimizing the oilfield production and to reduce associated operation risks from features as of real time surveillance, EDGE computing, remote actuation, and big data intelligence. This paper will elaborate in detail on how digitalization can be valuable in optimizing ESP system with a successful case study in Shushufindi field.

Staffing challenges are well-documented in reference services, but the use of dashboards to support data-driven scheduling for in-person and virtual reference shifts are not often discussed. This poster examines how Michigan State University Libraries utilized data-influenced decision-making and dashboard design iterations to streamline reference staffing and adapt to evolving conditions over the course of three years. This required continuous communication between dashboard users and creators and constant iteration of visualizations and designs to ensure dashboards remained relevant and current. Limitations of a purely quantitative data-driven strategy are also discussed at the conclusion of the final year.

Abstract This paper describes how business analytics novel software tools combined with advanced data management techniques can be integrated to management workflows and decision-making processes of a Coiled Tubing Service Company (CTSC). An advanced data wrangling process (transforming and mapping data) was designed and implemented to unify current and historical coiled tubing operational data into a single data set. The latter was regularly updated with the latest operational information through an automated data querying process that eliminated the need for manually repeating the data wrangling. A Business Analytics Software (BAS) was used to accelerate the engineering of a Data Analytics (DA) process, identify correlations and trends, design data models, and create relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPI). Finally, BAS visualization tools were used to prepare and publish comprehensive cloud-based Business Intelligence (BI) dashboards and reports. The BI dashboard allows the coiled tubing company to quickly perform accurate and efficient analysis of the KPI trends of its coiled tubing units and well interventions. The cloud-based Dashboard enables the CTSC to: Effectively identify Coiled Tubing Strings utilization, costs, failures, vendors, and design performance trends based on factual data, thus enabling informed pipe management decisions. Clearly Identify high performance coiled tubing units and crews and make strategic decisions for high profile jobs. Identify equipment failures, non-productive time (NPT) trends and define, implement, and monitor maintenance and asset management strategies to tackle the failures with mayor impact on operations performance. Easily incorporate fresh operational data and detect record-breaking operations. Improve Customer Relationship Management by a quickly responding to customer inquiries for tailor-made operations performance reports. Decrease workload on repetitive processes by enabling reports generation with relevant and accurate data faster that previous methods in place. Quickly customize and create accurate documentation compiling relevant performance data in a consistent and standardized fashion. Perform well interventions technical analysis. The contemporary approach to integrate BI Software to coiled tubing operations is a step change in how service companies and operators are analyzing and monitoring performance (efficiency, safety, and quality) to differentiate from each other, optimize results and minimize costs. This paper describes an example of a simple yet sophisticated and effective way of incorporating digital tools in the oilfield services processes by utilizing in house talent and resources.

Abstract One of the strategies to achieve Indonesia's main goal to produce one million barrels oil per day in 2030 is to maintain existing production volume. The key of maintain the existing production is to optimize artificial lift performance used in oil wells, because 96% of oil wells in Indonesia had installed artificial lifts and their performance will significantly affect the production decline rate. This approach aims to create a simple data visualization from macro perspective, to evaluate the artificial lift performance of all oil wells in Indonesia and to find a solution to optimize their performance. This method is started by collecting the main parameters that describes the artificial lift performance such as artificial lift type, historical run life, historical operating cost, production rate, reservoir depth, type of fluid as well as additional issues from each field in Indonesia. After the data is gathered, the next step is to cluster the usage of various artificial lifts in Indonesia, which have similarities such as area, crude type, depth, rate, and operational problems, in terms of comparison between the optimum case and non-optimum one. Finally, from the non-optimum one, it will be evaluated on more detailed programs for further optimization. This evaluation process is carried out by visualizing all the data gathered using some informative dashboards. The digitalization is expected to help the improvement of evaluation time and to support decision processes. By implementing this method, several success cases were demonstrated in 2020, like optimizing Sucker Rod Pump (SRP) component in one of the fields in Sumatra, with the gain around 120 BOPD, Gas lift and SRP to Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) conversion in one of the fields in Kalimantan with 160 BOPD production outcome, switching normal ESP rate to lower rate ESP which resulted from double run life compared with the previous one, and also conversion from SRP to HPU that can extend its run life, while creating cost efficiency. From those results, it shows the benefit of the dashboards created for artificial lift optimization, especially from Government point of view. Furthermore, there are around 50 wells that will be evaluated in detail for optimization program. The visual analytics of the dashboards, for example, will help the evaluation process all at once providing positive impacts on artificial lift optimalization program. In the future, we hope that these dashboards could be developed further, by combining the implementation of machine learning, like fuzzy logic methods or neural network, to enhance the operator performance and to improve production efficiency toward the achievement of one million barrels oil per day in 2030.

Tocilizumab is an anti-inflammatory medication that acts by inhibiting interleukin-6 (IL-6) and is shown to improve outcomes including mortality in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 requiring supplemental oxygen. Ontario supply of tocilizumab is limited, and tocilizumab demand in Ontario might exceed supply in the near future. A strategy that includes using a fixed, single intravenous dose of 400 mg for eligible patients will help extend available supply and is likely effective in treatment of COVID-19. Sarilumab, another IL-6 inhibitor, can be considered as a substitute. Additional options to consider to optimize tocilizumab use include the use of a provincial dashboard to help monitor and allocate use and estimating supply-to-demand adequacy. Likewise, a centralized allocation lottery system could be employed as soon as predicted demand exceeds supply to help ensure fair allocation. However, other issues may need to be taken into account for allocation decisions, as appropriate.

California’s Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), signed into law in 2013, centers equity as a key to increased and improved services for three targeted student subgroups, including English Learners (ELs), low-income students, and foster youth. As a component of LCFF, districts develop Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs) to specify their goals and strategies for using LCFF funds for equity and continuous improvement purposes. The California Model Five by Five Grid Placement Report (Spring 2017 Dashboard) included the Five by Five Placement Grid, a key function of which is to identify the needs of diverse ELs. The Dashboard and the LCAPs are two policy mechanisms with great promise in combining school finance and accountability reform to promote equity and coherent state-wide. In this report, Lavadenz and colleagues review the EL policy context and examine the connection between the two contemporary policy mechanisms in California, namely the Year 4 LCAP and the California Department of Education’s Accountability Model (Spring 2017 Dashboard). The authors use a sample of 26 California school districts with high numbers/percentages of ELs and conclude that California’s current accountability system diminishes the urgency to respond to educational needs of the English Learner subgroup and undermines the equity intent of the LCFF. Few promising practices and assets-based approaches were identified in the LCAPs, and there is minimal mention of metrics focused on EL outcomes. The authors provide recommendations at state, county office of education and district levels.

COVID-19 brought the public’s attention to the critical value of transportation and supply chain workers as lifelines to access food and other supplies. This report examines essential job skills required of the middle-skill workforce (workers with more than a high school degree, but less than a four-year college degree). Many of these middle-skill transportation and supply chain jobs are what the Federal Reserve Bank defines as “opportunity occupations” -- jobs that pay above median wages and can be accessible to those without a four-year college degree. This report lays out the complex landscape of selected technological disruptions of the supply chain to understand the new workforce needs of these middle-skill workers, followed by competencies identified by industry. With workplace social distancing policies, logistics organizations now rely heavily on data management and analysis for their operations. All rungs of employees, including warehouse workers and truck drivers, require digital skills to use mobile devices, sensors, and dashboards, among other applications. Workforce training requires a focus on data, problem solving, connectivity, and collaboration. Industry partners identified key workforce competencies required in digital literacy, data management, front/back office jobs, and in operations and maintenance. Education and training providers identified strategies to effectively develop workforce development programs. This report concludes with an exploration of the role of Institutes of Higher Education in delivering effective workforce education and training programs that reimagine how to frame programs to be customizable, easily accessible, and relevant.

As global agricultural production methods and supply chains have become more digitised, farmers around the world are adopting digital AgTech such as drones, Internet of Things (IoT), remote sensors, blockchain, and satellite imagery to inform their on-farm decision-making. While early adopters and technology advocates globally are spruiking and realising the benefits of digital AgTech, many Australian farmers are reluctant or unable to participate fully in the digital economy. This is an important issue, as the Australian Government has said that digital farming is essential to meeting its target of agriculture being a $100billion industry by 2030. Most studies of AgTech adoption focus on individual-level barriers, yielding well-documented issues such as access to digital connectivity, availability of AgTech suppliers, non-use of ICTs, and cost-benefit for farmers. In contrast, our project took an ‘ecosystems’ approach to study cotton farmers in the Darling Downs region in Queensland, Australia who are installing water sensors, satellite imagery, and IoT plant probes to generate data to be aggregated on a dashboard to inform decision-making. We asked our farmers to map their local ecosystem, and then set up interviewing different stakeholders (such technology providers, agronomists, and suppliers) to understand how community-level orientations to digital agriculture enabled and constrained on-farm adoption. We identified human factors of digital AgTech adoption at the macro, regional and farm levels, with a pronounced ‘data divide’ between farm and community level stakeholders within the ecosystem. This ‘data divide’ is characterised by a capability gap between the provision of the devices and software that generate data by technology companies, and the ability of farmers to manage, implement, use, and maintain them effectively and independently. In the Condamine Plains project, farmers were willing and determined to learn new, advanced digital and data literacy skills. Other farmers in different circumstances may not see value in such an undertaking or have the necessary support to take full advantage of the technologies once they are implemented. Moreover, there did not seem to be a willingness or capacity in the rest of the ecosystem to fill this gap. The work raises questions about the type and level of new, digital expertise farmers need to attain in the transition to digital farming, and what interventions are necessary to address the significant barriers to adoption and effective use that remain in rural communities. By holistically considering how macro- and micro-level factors may be combined with community-level influences, this study provides a more complete and holistic account of the contextualised factors that drive or undermine digital AgTech adoption on farms in rural communities. This report provides insights and evidence to inform strategies for rural ecosystems to transition farms to meet the requirements and opportunities of Agriculture 4.0 in Australia and abroad.
