Повний текст джерелаIn Tre saggi sull'immagine, Jean-Luc Nancy gives an interpretation of violence that is not limited to point out its materially destructive potentiality, but that considers its ethical and esthetical implications: according to the French philosopher, violence consists in an attempt on the victim's representative capability. As a consequence of a violent act, indeed, the victim becomes incapable of imagining themself beyond their oppressing status. After analyzing some photographs of James Nachtwey, useful to describe a victimary approach to violence, the dissertation takes into account artists who try to re-activate, in as much as possible co-authorial way, a representation's dispositive and an imagination's mechanism: the expression "make room" resumes this tendency to construct a space for the violence's victims and, at the same time, to let them imagine and reach a new subjectivity. The Ph.d thesis analyzes different ways to "make room": Teresa Margolles tests the autonomy of materials extrapolated from the corpses; some counter-monumental artists (Jochen and Esther Shalev Gerz, Horst Hoheisel, Peter Eisenman) solicit the spectators' imaginative power in public works devoted to Shoah; Regina José Galindo bases her performance on partial incorporation of previously collected testimonials; Milo Rau, in his movies and theatre plays, develops a subjectification's dispositive that let the victims build an identity beyond their condition. These artists' works don't contest the violence on the level of the activism, of the complaint, or the pity, but on an esthetic one, trying to re-generate that power suppressed by the violence itself.

Повний текст джерелаCrossing the frontiers of history through the personal histories of her characters has always fascinated the creative sensibility of Anita Desai. Her novels can indeed be regarded as an accomplished example of contact zone literature, which successfully portrays, with peculiar elegance and great sensibility, the most ferocious forms of marginalization. The lyrical exploration of the interaction between power and resistance in her narrative work builds through a problematized gaze, which provincializes India and the world not only across borders, but most importantly from within. From the representation of the Other without, that is the ambivalent relationship with the British, to the representation of the problematics with the Other within, that is the uneasy and contradictory question of ethnicity in the subcontinent, Desai finally tells stories of ambivalent historical processes of exclusion produced by different cultural worlds such as Nazi Germany or the Huichol Indians in far-away Mexico. By presenting peripheral individuals at grips with the dynamics of history and its ambivalences, Desai’s novels dig up liminal voices very often neglected by postcoloniality itself, which, in turn, deconstruct monolithic officialdom. This enables the author to celebrate, through literature, the obliteration of cultural and spatial frontiers and in so doing, to express her “well-tempered-humanism”. Desai’s commitment to contrast the cruel processes of history in her novels undoubtedly places her as a major representative of cosmopolitical fiction in the global and transnational panorama of contemporary literary production in English.

Повний текст джерелаThis research focuses on the representation of the Arabic-Islamic culture in the history textbooks of the first grade secondary school. The fact that the world today is characterized, more than ever, by continuous and inevitable encounters among people from different backgrounds requires a strong commitment to promote peaceful intercultural relations. For this purpose, it is believed that the contents of textbooks have an important role. Hence, the goal is to verify if the textbooks convey an effective education to know and to respect other cultures and religions, to promote intercultural dialogue; and to overcome ethnocentrism, stereotypes and prejudices. So, it was necessary to verify – in the sample of textbooks examined – the presence o any recurring prejudices, stereotypes and ethnocentric perspectives that can be constructed, consolidated, repeated and transmitted, consciously or unconsciously, through statements or images that illustrate the Arabic-Islamic culture. The first part of the thesis, the theoretical one, is dedicated to two themes: the first theme concerns the relationship between East and West and the representation of the others and the second theme concerns the status of Muslim women between stereotypes and reality. The second part, the empirical one, is dedicated to the qualitative content analysis of history textbooks. The analysis results show clear interest, by the authors and editors of the textbooks, for the theme of Arabic-Islamic culture. In spite of that, the texts may contain, although to different extents, stereotypes, generalizations and partial, inaccurate or incorrect information about the Arabic-Islamic culture and about Arabs or Muslims.

Повний текст джерелаThe study investigates the variety of expressive formulas and functional destinations of the photography production concerning the architectural renovation occurred in the city of Milan between 1861 and 1911. Design tool for architects and engineers, construction photography reveals itself as a fundamental tool of political legitimation for the new ruling class and illustrates the progress made by the city in terms of modernization. Through a historical reconstruction of the genre of construction photography, which also considers Italian and international cases, the study presents a detailed analysis of the Milanese phenomenon. Among the projects, the reform plan of the city center (1865-1878) developed by Giuseppe Mengoni and the restoration of the Sforza Castle (1893-1907) led by Luca Beltrami , as well as a number of minor operations. The inquiry considers the production by some of the main photographers working in the city and the iconographic apparatus of the most important illustrated press of the period, which during the late nineteenth century uses with increasing awareness the narrative qualities of the photographic medium. The evolution of the photographic language is therefore inquired with regard to his contribution to the construction of a national iconography of modernity , a phenomenon that sees the city of Milan in the front line.

Повний текст джерелаScientific visualization is the visual representation of data, in order to better understand and illustrate them. The displayed data is any quantitative information, resulting from observation, abstraction or calculation. The display process implies a set of rules for encoding information in a visual form. Normally the code is complex, in order to better compromise between the fidelity of representation and the limits of the medium used to represent it; not infrequently, however, it is tacit. In cases where the visual representation is densely figurative (i.e. a clear imitation of reality), this can lead to mistake signifier for signified, or to misinterpret the represented data, due to the analogy of the representation with real experience. This misunderstanding may be particularly risky in cases where the object of the visual representation is something physical, but inaccessible to the eye and to optical instruments. We argue that in the case of more arbitrary and less figurative representations, the fruition is more conscious, also allowing to overcome some of the cognitive limits of visual representations. We investigate whether it is possible, and maybe even more suitable, to create sensorial representations that do not use the view, therefore we studied the potential of such representations. This study led to the realization of a tactile and acoustic map of radio waves emitted from celestial objects in a region of the sky, using tactile and auditory parameters not necessarily corresponding to visual analogues. The experiment, carried out also with visually impaired users, showed a significant effect in terms of transfer of information and involvement of a disabled audience, presenting interesting cues for future research in education, implementations for science centers and creation of integrations projects about sensory impairment.

Повний текст джерелаThis doctoral dissertation analyzes the theme of the Family, one of the founding elements of pedagogical reflection, crossroads of a multiplicity of interpretive nucleuses with branching and contaminations, with Changes across historical periods represented in the pages of Classics of Children's literature and in the best contemporary's fiction books. It is a subject of great amplitude that entailed a choice of Authors who, in their novels have dealt with issues relating to the family in its plurality of its many meanings, from family life to the abandoned child, from childhoods without family to others families. In different historical epochs, their narratives have left an originality of interpretation that still tell stories of 'vie familiale'. From 19th-century's novels to sagas of fantasy's novels of the past fifty years, until the picturebook, the families’ stories may constitute a privileged educational and pedagogical material, that offers opportunities for discovery and knowledge of oneself and of the world, through which children's readers, cross the threshold to the mysterious everywhere, and also provides insights to scholars to study multiple and complex issues. The families’ stories often reflect critically the variations that can occur between the practices identified and studied by the humanities and social sciences and the metaphors offered by numerous narrative's Authors of children's literature. Offering a perspective often unsettling, they interpret reality thoroughly, taking the smaller and unnoticed details that have the ability to break the mold of socio-educational historical epoch in which the stories come to life.

Повний текст джерелаSe si considera una disciplina come un prodotto storico delle dinamiche che intercorrono tra istituzioni, comunità scientifiche e le loro pratiche (Danziger, 1995), la produzione scientifica, quale prodotto di queste dinamiche, può essere considerata cruciale per delinearne la storia. Studiare la storia di una disciplina a partire dalla sua produzione scientifica significa cogliere come questa viene costruita attorno a una determinata comunità , dal momento che ne contiene teorie, metodi e ambiti applicativi (Trevisani & Tuzzi, 2015; 2018). L'obiettivo della presente dissertazione è offrire una rappresentazione della storia della psicologia sociale in due comunità o centri (cfr. Danziger, 1996), europeo e nord-americano, storicamente legati e fulcro di questioni dibattute. Per farlo si è partiti dallo studio dell'evoluzione temporale dei contenuti di due riviste centrali nei rispettivi contesti: European Journal of Social Psychology e Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. In particolare si intende: 1) offrire una riflessione sul contributo dei metodi usati nel tracciare la storia di una disciplina, 2) individuare la direzione delle pubblicazioni tra prospettive e metodi egemoni e marginali e 3) contribuire a una riflessione sulla disciplina stessa. Dal momento che veicolano attraverso parole chiave i contenuti degli articoli, sono stati raccolti tutti i titoli e gli abstract delle due riviste dalla loro fondazione (rispettivamente 1971 e 1965) fino all'ultimo numero del 2016. Per mezzo dell'analisi delle corrispondenze lessicali (software SPAD), è stata esplorata la presenza di un andamento temporale latente nelle occorrenze delle parole chiave. È stata così proposta una panoramica dei contenuti principali che hanno caratterizzato ogni anno in ciascun corpus al fine di osservare e confrontare temi, processi e metodi discussi e trattati dalle due riviste. Inoltre, sono stati individuati e confrontati i principali argomenti (intesi come gruppi di parole a cui sottostà un significato comune) trattati dalle riviste e le loro traiettorie temporali per mezzo del metodo Reinert (1986) (software IRaMuTeQ e R) e Latent Dirichlet Allocation (Blei, Ng, & Jordan, 2003) (implementata in ambiente R). In seguito sono state tracciate le singole traiettorie delle parole chiave e sono state accomunate in cluster in base al loro andamento temporale (Functional Data Analysis e Curve Clustering) al fine di individuarne il "ciclo di vita" (Trevisani & Tuzzi, 2015; 2018). Infine sono state svolte alcune interviste a psicologi sociali per discutere con loro alcuni dei risultati delle analisi delle riviste e mettere in luce metodi e prospettive che potrebbero rimanere marginali nel campo e discutere sulla storia e lo sviluppo della disciplina. I risultati, nel complesso, sono stati discussi a) ponendo in essere un confronto tra le riviste e con la letteratura, b) riflettendo sui metodi utilizzati e c) a partire da alcuni questioni poste in principio - o emerse in corso d'opera - come salienti.

Повний текст джерелаA cavallo del XII secolo i monaci cistercensi dovettero affrontare una crisi che compromise la stabilità del loro istituto: disgregazione culturale interna all'Ordine, le cui fondazioni erano sparpagliate su un territorio vastissimo e disomogeneo, combinata a una competizione costante con il papato, specialmente con Alessandro III, Lucio III e Innocenzo III che cercarono di sottomettere la "libertas Ordinis" alla "libertates Ecclesiae", contribuirono a diffondere un senso di instabilità che portò il centro dell'Ordine a temere una "dissolutio ordinins". Oggetto di questa tesi dottorale è l'evoluzione dell'autorappresentazione dell'Ordine nelle prime collezioni cistercensi di miracoli, in relazione agli sviluppi istituzionali, economici e culturali che ne caratterizzarono la storia. Le principali fonti che ho esaminato sono il Collectaneum Exemplorum Clarevallense (scritto sotto il priorato di Giovanni di Clairvaux 1171-1179), il Liber Miraculorum di Erberto di Torres, l'Exordium Magnum Cisterciense attribuito a Corrado di Eberbach, il Dialogus Miraculorum e i Libri VIII Miraculorum di Cesario di Heisterbach. Sono state anche esaminate varie altre raccolte, tra le quali il Liber Revelationum di Richalm di Schöntal e alcuni frammenti di un probabile Liber redatto nel monastero londinese di Stratford-Langthorne e contenuti nel parzialmente inedito Liber Revelationum di Pietro di Cornovaglia. Dal punto di vista metodologico, la ricerca si concentra nell'analisi comparata degli elementi formali e tematici che caratterizzano le fonti, per mettere in risalto punti di contatto e divergenze negli stili e nelle tecniche compositive. Particolare interesse viene posto sulle istanze dottrinali e teologiche in connessione alle funzioni pedagogiche e edificanti. Attraverso la letteratura delle visioni è possibile vedere come i Cistercensi tentarono di affermare la loro "religio" come la migliore interprete delle dottrine sviluppate in ambito teologico-canonistico. Strategie narrative e testuali furono i mezzi adottati da questa produzione letteraria per affermare la superiorità cistercense nel mondo ecclesiastico. Conseguentemente, l'analisi si sviluppa su due fronti paralleli: un'ispezione degli aspetti dottrinali codificati nelle narrazioni e uno studio delle funzioni e delle trasmissioni dei testi.

Повний текст джерелаThe past few decades have been marked by a significant increase in the percentage of immigrants detained in prisons in Europe, disproportionate incidence of foreigners in the concerned territory. In Italy the phenomenon of over- representation of immigrants in prisons has a vey important dimension , that has attracted the interest of the sociological and criminological literature , research-oriented interest of its causes. The present work aims to investigate not the causes, but the effects of the experience of imprisonment on immigrants’s lives. Specifically, we’ll examine two main lines of interpretation, both included inside the internal current of Marxism, and we’ll pay attention to the correlation between the labor market and the prison system . According to the literature, the prison is a main entrance to the Social Contract for the new working class , made up of immigrants now a days. In fact, inside the jail, they have the opportunity to benefit from certain forms of welfare , accessing services and opportunities (health care , education and literacy , regular employment and job training ) from them - especially if irregular - they generally are excluded in condition of freedom in Italy. A different approach has argued instead that the detention of immigrants performs a function merely neutralizing aimed at their definitive exclusion from the social context . Inquire to what " offers " the penitentiary to immigrants and migrant life stories collected from offenders in the Prison of Capanne ( PG ), this work aims to understand what function the prison plays today against immigrants , and especially if it represents today a first step in the process of inclusion of the new working class , which has become a place of neutralization , with the advent of post-Fordist production system, a place of storage of excess workers.

Повний текст джерелаLa presente tesi si occupa dell’Italia meridionale longobarda durante l’alto medioevo e analizza la storia dei conflitti politici e sociali tra l’VIII e il IX secolo tenendo in considerazione le trasformazioni del potere politico longobardo e delle pratiche sociali in quest’area. Partendo dalle fonti giudiziarie di secolo VIII, questa tesi esplora dunque la competizione politica e sociale nella regione beneventana senza prescindere dalla sua posizione al centro del Mediterraneo. L’Italia meridionale fu considerata una periferia, talvolta una vera e propria frontiera, sia dall’impero carolingio sia da quello bizantino, e resistette per oltre un secolo ai tentativi musulmani di conquistare la penisola.
