The article discusses the results of a study of the static electromechanical characteristics of an asynchronous machine (AM) when prototypes of induction resistances (IR) with improved parameters are included in its rotor circuits. The dynamic braking (DB) of asynchronous machines, which is widespread in practice, provides for the dissipation of the kinetic energy of the rotating parts in the resistance boxes included in the rotor winding. In the process of stopping, to maintain a constant average braking torque AM, a bulky relay-contactor circuit for shunting rotor resistances is used. However, it is not possible to eliminate significant fluctuations in the electromagnetic torque in this way. To optimize the DB AM process, it is proposed to include a three-phase IR in the rotor winding instead of resistance boxes, the value of which automatically decreases along with the rotor current frequency. This approach allows you to abandon contact equipment and ensure smooth braking of the machine with fluctuations in the electromagnetic moment in narrower limits. The known IR designs are designed for starting modes of induction motors with a wound rotor, but they cannot ensure the constancy of the torque on the AM shaft in the DB mode. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to develop and experimentally confirm the effectiveness of simple control circuits of an induction machine in the specified mode with improved contactless induction rheostats in the rotor. The paper presents a diagram of a pilot plant and a figure explaining the design features of the IR. The studies were carried out for an asynchronous machine of the MTB-412-8 type, equipped with a thyristor exciter and a tachogenerator. The three phases of the AM rotor included ICs connected by a "star". The experiments were carried out in the direction of obtaining the necessary braking characteristics of the AM by varying the switching circuit of the stator phases and the value of the current supplying them. The figures show the mechanical characteristics of AM, obtained in the process of studying the influence on them of three typical circuits for switching on the phases of the stator winding and two values ​​of the fixed supply current. The research results show that the desired form of the mentioned AM characteristics is achieved only when using the stator phase switching in a function of the rotor speed and a constant supply current value.

Introduction. The requirement for modelling the dynamic processes of a hoisting mechanism in real operating situations has been revealed. The necessity of increasing the accuracy of moving effort description for the most common types of crane hoist drive control has been determined.Materials and Methods. The operation of a single-speed electric motor with squirrel-cage rotor without speed control, with a phase rotor and additional resistors in the rotor winding and with a squirrel-cage rotor and control by a frequency converter has been considered. The static characteristic of the electric motor is taken as the initial function. The Clauss formula with the corresponding values of the parameters synchronous speed, critical force and critical slip was used to take into account the driving force of the motor for frequency control and for relay-contactor control and a motor with a phase-rotor and additional resistances in the rotor circuit.Results. The dependences for the motor driving force with the most common methods of speed control of the crane hoisting mechanism drive are presented. In the case of the frequency control system, the form of the motor driving force is given in the case of steady-state motion and in the case of transient starting/braking processes when the corresponding algorithms are implemented by a frequency converter. Experimental and theoretical graphs of the load lifting processes for the cases of lifting with pickup in the relay-contactor control system and with elastic pickup in the frequency control system are given.Conclusion. The conclusion about applicability of static mechanical characteristic for description of electric motor operation in crane drives is given. The presented dependences provide an opportunity to model the full working cycle of the hoisting mechanism. The dependences are valid both during steady motion of the mechanism and during transients. It is concluded about the use of the dynamic model taking into account the presented form of the motor driving force for practical purposes for the analysis of the crane operation with regard to the effect of the lifting capacity limiter.

Starting from the problem of studying the parametric robustness in the case of the control of a permanent magnet-synchronous motor (PMSM), although robust control systems correspond entirely to this problem, due to the complexity of the algorithms of the robust type, in this article the use of switched systems theory is proposed as a study option, given the fact that these types of systems are suitable both for the study of systems with variable structure and for systems with significant parametric variation under conditions of lower complexity of the control algorithms. The study begins by linearizing a PMSM model at a static operating point and continues with a systematic presentation of the basic elements and concepts concerning the stability of switched systems by applying these concepts to the control system of a PMSM based on the field-oriented control (FOC) strategy, which usually changes the value of its parameters during operation (stator resistance Rs, stator inductances Ld and Lq, but also combined inertia of PMSM rotor and load J). The numerical simulations performed in Simulink validate the fact that, for parametric variations of the PMSM structure, the PMSM control switched systems preserve qualitative performance in terms of its control. A series of Matlab programs are presented based on the YALMIP toolbox to obtain Pi matrices, by solving Lyapunov–Metzler type inequalities, and using dwell time to demonstrate stability, as well as the qualitative study of the performance of PMSM control switched systems by presenting in phase plane and state space analysis of the evolution of state vectors: ω PMSM rotor speed, iq current, and id current.

One of the most severe resistance theory for factory power plants is the exit to separate work. The stability of generators during the separation from the power system can be increased by group regulation of excitation sys-tems. An algorithm has been developed providing for a faster mutual reynchronization of generators by adjusting forced EMFs on the difference between the rotor speed and the speed of the rotating field of the stator. After synchronization, an automatic excitation control is adjusted to equalize the eigen angles of generators rotors to ensure static stability. Next, conditions are created to resynchronize the electro-station with the power system. The algorithm is designed for factory synchronous generators when leaving for separate work. It is based on a mathematical model of a power plant in Matlab medium, which is calculated for the simplest power plant. The developed algorithm will increase the efficiency of managing emergency regimes of factory power plants during the separation from the power system.

Due to the advantages of a self-excited induction generator (SEIG), it plays a main role in sources of renewable energy, such as wind turbines (WT). The regulation of terminal voltage and frequency is poor under variable rotor speed and load conditions at stand-alone operation mode. The generator terminal voltage depends on the excitation capacitance which can be controlled by a capacitor bank and static voltage compensator. The dynamical model of the machine is described by differential equations in D-Q axes transformations of the synchronously rotating frame. Many models of analysis are proposed in the literature. In those models, several approximations are used to simplify the process of calculations, such as neglecting the iron core resistance, stray load resistance, stator and rotor leakage reactance, and magnetic saturation. In this work, a comprehensive dynamic model of the SEIG-WT is performed to analyze the system performance under transient and steady-state conditions. This dynamic model considers the effect of all machine parameters variation. New analytical formulas are used for to accurate calculation of minimum and maximum values of excitation capacitance and generator rotor cut-off and maximum speed. The dynamic model results are partially compared with experimental results, and accurate agreement is shown.

Sliding mode control (SMC) methods possess several advantageous properties such as robustness against parameter variation, disturbance rejection, straightforward design, and are simple to implement. In this paper, a sliding mode control algorithm (which considers the non-linear friction dynamics) based on an equivalent control technique is designed and implemented on a non-linear induction machine system with non-linear friction dynamics such as Coulomb, windage, Stribeck, and static friction. The chattering phenomenon, which is inherent in the standard sliding mode algorithm, is discussed, as well as the techniques to reduce the chattering effect. A sixth-order non-linear induction machine model is employed for simulation analysis. The developed control algorithms are then tested for position control of a practical vector-controlled induction machine, in three different operating conditions (nominal load, high inertial load, and rotor resistance mismatch). The controller performance results are compared practically with several different sliding mode control algorithms as well as with a fixed-gain controller test.

The six-phase motor control system has low torque ripple, low harmonic content, and high reliability; therefore, it is suitable for electric vehicles, aerospace, and other applications requiring high power output and reliability. This study presents a superior sensorless control system for a six-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The mathematical model of a PMSM in a stationary coordinate system is presented. The information of motor speed and position is obtained by using a sliding mode observer (SMO). As torque ripple and harmonic components affect the back electromotive force (BEMF) estimated value through the traditional SMO, the function of the frequency-variable tracker of the stator current (FVTSC) is used instead of the traditional switching function. By improving the SMO method, the BEMF is estimated independently, and its precision is maintained under startup or variable-speed states. In order to improve the estimation accuracy and resistance ability of the observer, the rotor position error was taken as the disturbance term, and the third-order extended state observer (ESO) was constructed to estimate the rotational speed and rotor position through the motor mechanical motion equation. Finally, the effectiveness of the method is verified by simulation and experiment results. The proposed control strategy can effectively improve the dynamic and static performance of PMSM.

When changing the parameters of the control object to ensure the required quality of control, the tuning parameters of the control system must be changed. Investigation of the sensitivity of mathematical models helps to choose the right technical parameters of the regulators. Therefore, there is an urgent scientific task, which consists in the development of mathematical models for calculating the steady-state values ​​of the sensitivity functions of the coordinates of non-linear systems to changes in their parameters. When synthesizing observers of the rotor flux linkage, it is indicated that the signal for evaluating the rotor flux linkage is most sensitive to a change in the active resistance of the rotor of an induction machine. However, the numerical values ​​of the transmission coefficients between the coordinates of the observer and the increments of the parameters of the asynchronous machine during its operation are not given, which does not allow a comparative analysis of the degree of influence of changes in certain parameters of the asynchronous machine on the signals of the observer of the flux linkage. The task is to find and compare the numerical values ​​of the functions of the sensitivity of the coordinates of the observer of the rotor flux linkage to the change in the parameters of the asynchronous machine by joint analytical solution of the static equations of the observer's sensitivity model and the state model of the asynchronous machine. In this work, analytical expressions are obtained for the steady-state values ​​of the sensitivity functions of the coordinates of such a nonlinear object as an observer of the rotor flux linkage to a change in the parameters of an asynchronous machine. A comparative analysis of the values ​​of the transmission coefficients between the parameters and coordinates in the system asynchronous machine — observer of the rotor flux linkage for its various rotation speeds is carried out. The proposed technique makes it possible to find the numerical values ​​of the transmission coefficients and to compare the degree of influence of various parameters of the asynchronous machine on the coordinates of the flux linkage observer. Transient processes obtained in the course of solving the equations of the dynamics of an asynchronous electric drive with an observer of flux linkage complement the results of analytical calculations. The performed calculations are aimed at increasing the depth of analysis of the properties of the flux link observer, which helps to reasonably choose the structure of feedbacks when synthesizing a closed observer.

A static frequency converter start-up control strategy for pumped-storage power unit is presented. And rotor position detecting without position sensor is realized according to voltage and magnetism equations of ideal synchronous motor mathematics model. The mechanism and implementation method of initial rotor position determination and rotor position estimation under low frequency without position sensor are expounded and validated by simulations. Based on the mentioned control strategy, first set of a static frequency converter start-up device in China for large-scale pumped-storage unit is developed, which is applied to start-up control test in the 90 MW generator/motor of Panjiakou Pumped-storage Power Plant. Test results show that rotor position detecting, pulse commutation, natural commutation, and unit synchronous procedure control of static start-up are all proved. The outcomes have been applied in running equipment, which proves the feasibility of mentioned method.

This paper presents a spherical magnetic bearing and analyzes its application in magnetically suspended control and sensitive gyro (MSCSG). The main advantage of the spherical magnetic bearing is that it can eliminate the interference torque in the process of rotor tilt and improve the suspension accuracy of the rotor. By comparing the finite element analysis results of spherical magnetic bearing and traditional cylindrical magnetic bearing, the interference torque to the rotor of cylindrical magnetic bearing increases gradually with the increase of the rotor tilt angle. The interference torque to the rotor of spherical magnetic bearing does not change with the rotor tilt, and the interference torque is basically 0 Nm. Then, dynamic and static experiments were carried out to verify the interference torque generated in the process of spherical magnetic suspended rotor tilting. The experimental results show that the runout value of the rotor’s translation and tilt signals in both static and dynamic states is basically consistent with the value of the equilibrium state of the rotor (tilt angle = 0). Therefore, spherical magnetic bearing will not produce interference torque, which is of great significance for realizing the high-precision control of magnetic suspension inertia mechanism.

A new type of resistance wind rotor with power-transmission cavity and three blades vertical axis is proposed. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is employed to numerically research the performance of blades in five typical rotation angles. The pressure of the wind rotor in the fluid field is got based on the static pressure contours of the blades in the five rotation angles. The simulation results show the positive pressure and the negative pressure appear around the blades in a cycle. Both of them can be motive power and resistance power to the wind rotor. The both power cancel out and the total torque output varies with the rotate location. Simulation results show that the largest torque appears at 90°while the least torque appears at 30°. Then, an instrument that measures torque output of wind rotor is designed. The torque output of the rotor in the five typed rotation angles is tested in a circle. The result indicates that distribution of the static torque output is like cosine wave in a cycle which is consistent with the results of the CFD. The studies provide the theory basis and the experimental introduction of the wind rotor designing.

In the rotor reference frame, the input-output linearization theory was adopted to decouple the rotor position and rotor flux. We then designed two adaptation laws to estimate the rotor resistance and mechanical parameters of the motor. The passive properties of the negative feedback connection from the rotor flux observer to the rotor resistance estimator, and the position controller were analyzed according to the passivity theorem. The overall control system was proved to be globally stable. Finally, experimental results show that the proposed scheme is robust to the variations of the rotor resistance and load torque disturbances. Furthermore, the estimated parameters can converge to the actual values.

Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) has been widely in production and everyday life, and its control system has been a difficult point needing more researches. Therefore, it is important to investigate the control system of PMSM. In order to ensure the dynamic and static performance of PMSM, this paper presents a new vector control method based on the rotor field oriented control (RFOC) technology. The paper introduces the fundamental principal of RFOC, and designs three loop servo control simulation system and analyses the result of the simulation. The results shows that the RFOC system has high dynamic and static performance by adopting the three loop control. And the analysis can also provide a reference for similar servo control system design personnel.

According to two three-phase asynchronous motors system running by connectionless-mode, and considering the system to be required to run in strict synchronous way under different load, the method of field-oriented vector control is used. Thus, the control loops of rotor flux, torque and rotor speed are constructed to make two-motor system run synchronously by torque distribution. The simulation results illustrate its effectiveness and good dynamic and static performance.

Online identification of motor rotor speed by using modified rotor flux orientation angle estimator and model reference adaptive system achieves sensorless vector control of induction motor. The principle verification conducted on self-developed sensorless vector control of induction motor shows that the system has good dynamic & static performance and induction motor achieves significant improvement in speed regulation in the premise of not adding cost of general inverters.

Many scientific researchers have proposed the control of the induction motor without speed sensor. These methods have the disadvantage that the variation of the rotor resistance causes an error of estimating the motor speed. Thus, simultaneous estimation of the rotor resistance and the motor speed is required. In this paper, a scheme for estimating simultaneously the rotor resistance and the rotor speed of an induction motor using fuzzy logic has been developed. We present a method which is based on two adaptive observers using fuzzy logic without affecting each other and a simple algorithm in order to facilitate the determination of the optimal values of the controller gains. The control algorithm is proved by the simulation tests. The results analysis shows the characteristic robustness of the two observers of the proposed method even in the case of variation of the rotor resistance.

This article provides a comparative analysis of various control systems for a rotor system on fluid friction bearings. The control was carried out on the basis of the criterion of the minimum friction moment, the controlled parameter was the bearing stiffness coefficients. The following control methods were compared in terms of friction torque and rotor eccentricity: STATIC, PID, DQN, DDPG, Q-Learning and SARSA. The control systems were guided by the following observed parameters: the values of coordinates and velocities along the x, y axes, as well as the frictional moment and relative eccentricity.

State feedback controller designs allow for pole placement in an effective manner, but reduction of static offset is difficult. On the other hand, classical control methodology allows for the increase of system type and the elimination of static offset. An integrally augmented state feedback controller provides the benefits of standard feedback designs while allowing for the elimination of static offsets (through the increase of system type). Static offset is a particular problem with magnetic bearing supported rotor systems, in that gravitational effects, current biasing, and operational loading tend to exacerbate this problem. In order to assess the effectiveness of this technique, an integrally augmented state feedback controller is developed, implemented, and tested for a magnetic bearing supported rotor system. Results for several selected configurations are presented and compared. Some conclusions and recommendations concerning the effectiveness of integrally augmented state feedback controller designs are presented.

This paper presents the indirect field vector control of induction motor (IM) which is controlled by an adaptive Proportional-Integral (PI) speed controller. The proposed solution can overcome the rotor resistance variation, which degrades the performance of speed control. To solve this drawback, an adaptive PI controller is designed with gains adaptation based on fuzzy logic in order to improve the performances of IM with respect to parameters variations, particularly the rotor resistance (Rr). The proposed control algorithm is validated by simulation tests. The obtained results show the robustness towards the load torque disturbances and rotor resistance variation of the adaptive Proportional-Integral fuzzy logic control with respect to classical PI control, and adaptive control based on rotor resistance observer.

This paper presents the passivity-based rotor resistance and mechanical paramters estimation, and the position control for induction motors. Firstly, the input-output linearization theory is employed to decouple the rotor flux amplitude and the rotor position at the transient state. An open-loop current model flux observer then estimates the rotor flux. Furthermore, we adopted the gradient algorithm to design adaptive laws to estimate the rotor resistance, moment of inertia, viscous coefficient, and load torque. The passive properties of the feedback connection of the rotor flux observer to the rotor resistance estimator, and the position controller are analyzed by the passivity theorem. According to the properties, the overall control system is proved to be globally stable without using Lyapunov-type arguments. Finally, experimental results are provided to show that the proposed method is robust to variations of the mechanical parameters and load torque disturbances. Moreover, good position tracking response and parameters estimating characteristic can be obtained.

This paper proposes the parameters estimation and position control of an induction motor drive by using the composite adaptation scheme. First, in the rotor reference frame, the input-output linearization theory was employed to decouple the mechanical rotor position and the rotor flux amplitude at the transient state. The effects of operational conditions on the resistance moment of a rotary energy recovery device have been systematically investigated through the computational fluid dynamics in this paper. Based on the structural characteristics of the rotary energy recovery device, the hydro-static bearing was established on both sides of the rotor. Simulation results indicate that for the rotation resistance moment generated by the rotor internal flow path, the rotation speed is linearly positive with the rotational resistance moment. For the rotation resistance moment generated by the clearance flow, the rotation speed is also positively correlated with the rotational resistance moment. The circular clearance size is negatively correlated with the rotation resistance moment, and the endcover fluid film size is negatively correlated with the rotation resistance moment. The boundary speed between laminar flow and turbulent flow was found by comparing the changing trend of rotational resistance moment. The obtained relation between clearance, the speed of the rotor and resistance moment provides a simple way to predict the resistance moment of the device, which will be beneficial to design the energy-efficient rotary energy recovery device

This paper presents a new method of online estimation of the stator and rotor resistance of the induction motor in the indirect vector-controlled drive, with artificial neural networks. The back propagation algorithm is used for training of the neural networks. The error between the rotor flux linkages based on a neural network model and a voltage model is back propagated to adjust the weights of the neural network model for the rotor resistance estimation. For the stator resistance estimation, the error between the measured stator current and the estimated stator current using neural network is back propagated to adjust the weights of the neural network. The performance of the stator and rotor resistance estimators and torque and flux responses of the drive, together with these estimators, is investigated with the help of simulations for variations in the stator and rotor resistance from their nominal values. Both types of resistance are estimated experimentally, using the proposed neural network in a vector-controlled induction motor drive. Data on tracking performances of these estimators are presented. With this approach, the rotor resistance estimation was found to be insensitive to the stator resistance variations both in simulation and experiment.

During the operation of speed-sensorless control system for induction motor, the stator and rotor resistance varies greatly with the change of temperature and the frequency of the rotor side, which affects the estimation of the stator flux and leads to the low accuracy of the speed estimation. A speed-sensorless vector control method based on parameters identification with the full-order adaptive state observer is proposed in this paper. In the model reference adaptive system of AC motor, the stator resistance and rotor flux are assigned as state variables to build the reference model, and a full-order flux observer is introduced to adjustable model. Lyapunov theory and Popov superstability theory are used to deduce the speed and rotor resistance adaptive rate. The feedback gain matrix is simplified to speed up the convergence rate of the system. The estimation values of speed and rotor resistance are taken as the proportional integral form, so that an interactive model reference adaptive system is constructed by speed and rotor resistance identification. While observing the rotor flux, it can not only ensure the accuracy of the reference model but also eliminate the disadvantages of the voltage model with integral terms, and the rotor speed can be estimated at the same time. The experimental results show that the accurate performance of speed and flux identification can meet the requirements of application; the proposed control method with the identification of speed and rotor resistance has little fluctuations phenomenon on motor torque in low speed and achieves better performance.

According to speed sensorless vector control of Asynchronous motor for Cascaded high voltage inverter, a model reference adaptive system (MRAS) implemented in two phase rotating reference frame was studied to identify the rotor speed of an asynchronous motor. To eliminate the inherent limitations of MRAS in two phase stationary reference frame, the reference model and adjustable model used in this MRAS scheme are composed of an improved rotor flux voltage model and rotor flux current model in two phase rotating reference frame respectively. Simulation and experimental results show that the vector control system can estimate the flux and speed with good accuracy, and run with good static and dynamic performance in start, speed regulation and steady operation.

A straight and an arc-shaped curtain are combined to enhance the aerodynamic performance of the Savonius wind rotor. The straight-arc curtain is placed in front of the Savonius wind rotor to reduce the negative moment on the convex blade and increase the positive moment on the concave blade. The static and dynamic performances of the Savonius wind rotor with and without the curtain are investigated based on the computational fluid dynamics method. The results show that the static torque is higher with the curtain than without it at the same angle-of-attack. The maximum mean power coefficient with the curtain is increased by about 50% compared with conventional Savonius wind rotor. Additionally, the flow field around the rotor with the straight-arc curtain is presented, and the flow control mechanics of the straight-arc curtain are discussed.

In this paper, a strategy for estimating the induction motor’s rotor speed is proposed. The proposed rotor speed estimation strategy is based on model reference adaptive identification theory. By applying the proposed strategy, the induction motor control system can estimate the induction motor's rotor speed precisely. To improve the rotor speed estimation performance of the system, two methods have been adopt. The speed sensorless control system based on proposed strategy was built with Simulink blocks in Matlab platform. The corresponding simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method can operate stably in the whole range of speed with preferable estimation precision of stator resistance and rotor speed.

This paper presents a novel external secondary self-excitation capacitance and chopper resistance across the diode bridge rectifier in the rotor circuit to control the voltage and frequency of 3-phase, wound-rotor, slip-ring, induction generator (WRSRIG). The problem related to the excitation- capacitance from the rotor side is the required large excitation capacitance to enhance the generator performance in a wide - range. In the present proposed method, a dynamic excitation capacitance is used in the H-Bridge inverter circuit connected in series with a chopper resistance across a 3-phase diode bridge rectifier in the rotor circuit. The duty ratios of the H-bridge thyristor elements and the thyristor chopper element are varied to emulate the excitation-capacitance as well as external-rotor resistance values dynamically, and to be used as terminal voltage and its frequency control. The dynamic excitation-capacitance is used to control the terminal voltage, while the dynamic external rotor resistance is used to control the generator speed (frequency). To study the performance of the WRSRIG a dynamic model is presented in this paper in D-Q axes rotating synchronously in a reference frame. The dynamic model takes into account all the machine parameters, such as stator and rotor - iron core losses, stator and rotor - stray load losses, dynamic saturation of the magnetizing inductance, rotor harmonic losses generated due to switching action of the bridge rectifier, reduction voltage in the rotor circuit due to the over-lap phenomenon and rotor external resistance losses. The new proposed equivalent circuit of the WRSRIG will become an efficient method for studying the performance characteristics of the generator and to be used as a suitable tool for an algorithm of the vector control analysis.

The goal of this work is to propose a latest design of a rotor speed and rotor flux modulus control approach for an induction machine using a Backstepping corrector with an integral action. The advantage of the Backstepping Strategy is the ability to manage a nonlinear system. The Lyapunov theory has been used to ensure the system stability. To improve the controller robustness proprieties the integral action is used, despite the system uncertainties and the existence of external disturbances. The unavailable rotor flux is recovered by estimation of the rotor flux of the machine based on the integration of the stator voltage expressions. The simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme under load disturbances, rotor resistance variation and low and high speed.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to handle the problem of the radial disturbance caused by rotor mass unbalance and load change in a bearingless induction motor (BIM). Design/methodology/approach The active disturbance rejection controller (ADRC) is used to replace the traditional PI controller, and a cubic interpolation method is used to fit the nonlinear function of ADRC, so as to improve the control performance. Meanwhile, a disturbance observer is applied to the suspension system, and the observed disturbance acceleration is compensated to the suspension system in the form of current; thus, the suppression of the rotor radial disturbance is realized. Findings The proposed method can effectively suppress the radial disturbance of the rotor, meliorate the suspension performance of the motor and enhance the anti-interference ability of the system. Besides, it has excellent dynamic and static performance. Originality/value A radial disturbance control strategy of the BIM based on improved ADRC is proposed is to suppress the radial disturbance of the rotor. The improved ADRC is to enhance the control performance of the system, and the disturbance observer is designed to observe and compensate the disturbance.

A novel vector control system of the split double-rotor motor based on indirect vector control principle has been proposed. The mathematic models of the primary machine and the secondary machine are set up respectively. Through the coupling of the two models, the system model of the split double-rotor motor is build. Matlab software is used for the simulation and analysis of this indirect vector control system. According to the simulation results, the validity of system model is proved with nicer static and dynamic capability, and without steady-state error in stable state. These are important to analyze and design the double-rotor motor. Furthermore, the results provide the basis for simulation and apply of double-rotor motor in HEV.

Multiphase electric drives have been developed due to numerous advantages offered by those machines when it compared with the conventional three-phase machines. Multiphase motor drives are considered for applications, where the reduction of power per phase for both motor and inverter and high reliability are required. High performance control techniques are developed for multi-phase drives. The performances of the high performance controller and flux observers may be degraded during the operation. Since the parameters of Induction Motor (IM) varies continuously due to temperature variation and heating. Thus it is significantly important that the value of rotor resistance is continuously observed online and adapted by the control algorithm in order to avoid detuning effects. The efficiency and performance of an induction motor drive system can be improved by online observation of the critical parameters, such as the rotor resistance and stator resistance. Among the parameters of IM, rotor resistance is a decisive one for flux estimation, and also the stator resistance becomes critical in the low-speed operation condition. This paper presents a new online estimation method for the rotor resistance of the IM for sliding mode observer. This method generally based on theories of variable structure and is useful in order to adjust online unknown parameters (load torque and rotor resistance). The presented non-linear compensator afford a voltage inputs on the articulation of stator current and rotor speed measurements, and engender an estimates for the unknown parameters simultaneously, the non-measurable state variables (rotor flux and derivatives of the stator current and voltage) that converge to the corresponding true values. Under the persistent excitation condition, the proposed method estimates the actual value of rotor resistance, which guarantees the exact estimation of the rotor flux. Non-linear Backstepping control and adaptive sliding mode observer of a five-phase induction motor drive is presented. The accuracy and validity of the method is verified by MATLAB simulation model.

In this paper, in order to solve the problem of unbalance vibration of rigid rotor system supported by the active magnetic bearing (AMB), automatic balancing method is applied to suppress the unbalance vibration of the rotor system. Firstly, considering the dynamic and static imbalance of the rotor, the detailed dynamic equations of the AMB-rigid rotor system are established according to Newton’s second law. Then, in order to rotate the rotor around the inertia axis, the notch filter with phase compensation is used to eliminate the synchronous control current. Finally, the variable-step fourth-order Runge–Kutta iteration method is used to solve the unbalanced vibration response of the rotor system in MATLAB simulation. The effects of the rotational speed and phase compensation angle on the unbalanced vibration control are analysed in detail. It is found that the synchronous control currents would increase rapidly with the increase of rotational speed if the unbalance vibration cannot be controlled. When the notch filter with phase shift is used to balance the rotor system automatically, the control current is reduced significantly. It avoids the saturation of the power amplifier and reduces the vibration response of the rotor system. The rotor system can be stabilized over the entire operating speed range by adjusting the compensation phase of the notch filter. The method in the paper is easy to implement, and the research result can provide theoretical support for the unbalance vibration control of AMB-rotor systems.

This paper describes the synthesis of a vector fault tolerant control of induction motor drives using an adaptive observer. This observer is used to detect the rotor resistance and flux components using the stator terminal voltages and currents. The rotor resistance is adapted using a new algorithm which does not imply a high computational load. Stability analysis based on Lyapunov theory is performed in order to guarantee the closed loop stability. The rotor resistance is used for the correction of the controllers and the rotor time constant. To verify the tolerance and the applicability of this control, we consider the stator inter-turn fault which is frequently encountered in practice. An analytical method for the modelling of this fault is presented. The equations which describe the transient as well as steady state behavior of unsymmetrical induction machine including the computation of machine inductances are presented. These inductances are calculated analytically using the magnetic field distribution through the machine air-gap. Simulation results are provided to evaluate the consistency and performance of the proposed fault tolerant control of induction motor based vector control.

A dynamic decoupling control method based on neural network inverse system theory is developed for the 5 degrees of freedom (5-DOF) rotor system. The rotor system suspended by AC hybrid magnetic bearings (HMBs) is a multivariable, nonlinear and strong coupled system. Firstly, the configuration of 5-DOF HMBs and the mathematical equations of suspension forces are set up. Secondly, it is demonstrated the system is reversible by analyzing mathematical model. On the basis, the neural network inverse system which is composed of the static neural networks and integrators, and original system are in series to constitute pseudo linear systems. Finally, linear system theory is applied to these linearization subsystems for designing close-loop controllers. The simulation results show that this kind of control strategy can realize dynamic decoupling control, and control system obtains good dynamic and static performances.

In order to acquire the best virtual resistance value, the excellent particle library (EPL) of dynamic particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed. It takes the rotor voltage and rotor current as two objectives, which has a fast convergence performance and high accuracy. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the virtual resistance control strategy.

In the applications of rail transit and electric vehicles, sensorless control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) usually uses high frequency (HF) signal injection in low speed or zero speed. Rotating HF signal injection based on the stationary reference frame can identify the rotor position, but its accuracy is easily affected by various nonlinearities of the control system and stator resistance. In this paper, the causes of rotor position estimation deviation are analyzed and deduced in detail. It is proposed that the rotor position estimation deviation can be divided into high frequency phase deviation (HFPD) and stator resistance phase deviation. On the basis of these analyses, a novel sensorless rotor position estimation strategy for IPMSM is proposed. This strategy can theoretically eliminate the HF phase deviation caused by the nonlinearity of the control system and reduce the phase deviation caused by the stator resistance. Although the factors that cause the estimation deviation of rotor position may change with the time and the operation status of the motor, the proposed strategy has the characteristics of online calculation and real-time compensation, which can improve the accuracy of the estimated rotor position. In addition, this paper provides a detailed theoretical derivation of resolving rotor position considering stator resistance and HF phase deviation. Finally, the result analysis on an IPMSM demonstrate the correctness of the theoretical analysis and the effectiveness of the strategy.

This paper uses two reduced-order methods to calculate the overall non-linear vibration response of a multi-mode rotor-squeeze film damper (SFD) bearing assembly. Good agreement has been found between their computed results and those calculated by the conventional Runge-Kutta-Merson method (RKMM), yet they require less than 5 per cent of the computing time consumed by the RKMM. They are applied to compute the vibration response, three-dimensional deflection shape and the overall vibrational kinetic energy of the rotor-bearing assembly. The assembly is simulated under various operating conditions including different unbalances, oil viscosities, static misalignments and damper factors. It is concluded that effective vibration control of a flexible rotor-SFD bearing assembly can be achieved when the vertical static eccentricity ratio of the SFD is set to a certain limit.

In the working process of ultra-precision aerostatic motorized spindles, the journal and the rotor must have a certain eccentricity to have a certain bearing capacity and stiffness, which will induce the unbalanced magnetic pull (UMP). The intercoupling of the UMP and the gas film force will affect the motion state of the rotor and the accuracy of spindles. In order to deeply study the influence of the UMP caused by the rotor eccentricity on the equilibrium position of aerostatic spindles, a physical model of an aerostatic spindle based on slit throttling gas bearing is established and the coupling effect between the rotor and the motor rotor is studied and analyzed as a whole. The equilibrium position of the rotor under the combined action of gravity, the gas film force and the UMP is deduced, and a gas–magnetic field coupling calculation program based on the finite difference method is proposed. The calculation results show that with the increase in rotational speed, the equilibrium position of the rotor will move to the center of the journal in the micron scale, and the moving amplitude will gradually slow down. The UMP caused by rotor eccentricity can offset the rotor equilibrium position in nanometer scale, and the influence degree decreases sharply as the rotor moves to the journal center. With the increase in rotational speed, the direct stiffness and the cross stiffness will increase, and the amplitude of the cross stiffness is greater than the direct stiffness. This study is of great significance for further studying the influence of the rotor eccentricity on the equilibrium position and the accuracy of the rotor.

In response to the uncertainty, nonlinearity and open-loop instability of active magnetic levitation control system, a neural network PID quadratic optimal controller has been designed using optimum control theory. By introducing supervised Hebb learning rule, constraint control for positioning errors and control increment weighting are realized by adjusting weighting coefficients, using weighed sum-squares of the control increment and the deviation between actual position and equilibrium position of the rotor in active magnetic levitation system as objective function. The simulation results show that neural network PID quadratic optimal controller can maintain the stable levitation of rotor by effectively improving static and dynamic performances of the system, so as to maintain the stable levitation of rotor in active magnetic levitation system which has stronger anti-jamming capacity and robustness.

Permanent magnet synchronous motor is employed in wide applications because of its high power density. However, due to the continuous running of the motor the rotor temperature will get increased and hence the rotor flux linkage will be reduced. So the parameters like rotor flux linkage, torque and voltage distortion has to be estimated in order to increase the performance of the drive. Fuzzy logic controller is used for the control of torque. Fuzzy logic controller employed here mainly to reduce the ripple present in the torque waveform and also to increase the static and dynamic performance of the system. In order to find the temperature of the motor a pair of thermocouple is placed on the either sides of the stator. The main aim of the proposed project is to improve the performance and efficiency of the drive with the controlled ripple free torque.

In this paper, a sliding mode control is presented for direct torque and stator flux control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor in a rotor speed sensorless drive system. The control scheme is developed in a specific synchronous rotating reference frame (X-Y) in which the stator current space vector coincides with the direct (X) axis. For this control technique no need to have any knowledge of machine parameters such as stator two-axis inductances, rotor permanent magnets flux linkage, and even the rotor initial position. However, the on-line actual stator resistance value is required to estimate the stator flux components in the stator stationary two-axis reference frame. In this control strategy, two simple methods are described for estimating the rotor speed and stator resistance. Some simulation and experimental results are presented to support the validity and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
