Повний текст джерелаThis work presents the mechanisms for configuration management in the STAR framework. STAR is an electronic design automation framework, under development at the University of Rio Grande do Sul in cooperation with the IBM Rio Scientific Center at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The design objects supported are complex systems and they are represented through a hierarchical data model. Versions are used to express the evolution process of design objects. The version management mechanism developed is strongly related with the data representation, and it supports the different dimensions of versions: views, alternatives and revisions. The use of versions associated with composite objects allows the existence of many possibilities of description for the same complex system, as a consequence of different versions combination. When submitting a design object to a design tool, like a simulator, it is necessary to select versions for components in order to obtain a single object description, called the object configuration. A configuration manager offers resources, as manipulation and query on design objects in the framework, to make version selection in configuration construction easy and fast. STAR configurations are established through component reference attributes or through a configuration object definition. The configuration management mechanism developed for the STAR framework in this work supports static, dynamic and open configurations. They are established in a manual, automatic or semi-automatic way. In the manual way, the user is responsible for choosing the selected versions. In the automatic way, it is possible to choose between the current version and the most recent version, which are pre-defined criteria. The user can define and use configuration expressions in a semi-automatic way. These expressions make the version selection objective, due to use of objects attributes, representing objects characteristics in the expression. The use of configuration expressions allows the selection of versions with specific characteristics. A language is available for the definition of configuration expressions. The possibility to store configurations is provided. Configurations may be reused in another time and by other objects. The possibility to store configurations allows them remain either dynamic or open, even if the choose of versions to complement them had been done. To make this possible, configuration objects are integrated in the data model. Operations on configuration objects are: create, update, copy, delete, query and select. These operations are the basis of the configuration process.

Повний текст джерелаThe purpose with this thesis was to study user activities in a business system, MediusFlow. The overall objective was to identify user related problems and to analyse which of the usability data gathering methods to use in the future development process of the company Medius.
The outcome of this study indicated that a cognitive related user problem was the most important problem to solve. A Star Life Cycle method was preferred. Two low-fidelity prototypes were developed to exemplify an alternative design solution to the identified cognitive user problem. Furthermore, the two best methods to use when gathering user related requirements were heuristic evaluation and expert review.
In addition a company specific Style Guide was created with generic guidelines as a foundation for development of future applications within Medius.

Повний текст джерелаs knowledge on the planimetric configuration of the hotels built previously may lead the designer to different perspectives. Thus, it is so essential that how efficient these currently used facilities are shared among the guests, employers and the circulation areas should be investigated and the rational relations among these should be analyzed. In this study, the planimetric configuration of the floors where standard rooms of four-star hotels established on a single parcel in Cankaya district of the city of Ankara in Turkey is examined. In the study, 9 hotels carrying the features mentioned above were randomly selected from a sample space of 25 facilities. The architectural drawings of these structures were obtained from the relevant institutions and organizations. Data regarding area calculations and measurements made were made the investigator from these drawings. Based on these measurements, 3 different statistical tests were used in order to determine differentiations and similarities among the ratios depicted in chapter 3. These tests were stated as
regression analysis, t-tests and analysis of variance. Results showed that significant differences are obtained when the net usable areas are examined and classified according to the number of beds they have and no significant differences were obtained when the analysis made according to the other factors.

Every year, both at home and in the workplace, thousands of adults injure themselves while attempting to move heavy objects. Devices such as hand trucks are used to relieve the stress of lifting while on flat ground; however, these devices usually fail when it becomes necessary to negotiate a street curb or a short flight of stairs. The objective of this thesis was to design and test a consumer-grade hand truck capable of climbing stairs. Several designs were conceived that would allow a non-industrial hand truck to travel over stairs, curbs, or uneven terrain while putting minimal strain on the user. One strategy, referred to as the Blanco Stair-Climbing Wheel, was selected for development; several solid models were created and a prototype was constructed. The finished prototype was tested with a payload of approximately 300 lbs, and it was determined that the hand truck design using the Blanco strategy is a viable option for a stair-climbing consumer product.

Treatment and prevention of disease is a major area of research effort and interest; development of new technologies could overcome limitations of current medicines, and provide new treatment modalities that improve patient outcomes. In cancer, small molecule chemotherapeutics often suffer from lack of selectivity, poor pharmacokinetics and biodistribution, limited solubility, fast clearance from the body, and development of resistance. Nano-sized particles that conjugate to or encapsulate small molecule drugs could address these issues by increasing circulation times and facilitating selective delivery of a higher drug load to the tumor, which overall can help improve efficacy and lower toxic side effects. This thesis describes the development of a unique polymer architecture - the Brush-Arm Star Polymer (BASP) - that represents a modular, customizable therapeutic platform with potential in drug delivery. In this thesis, BASPs are synthesized by ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of a norbornene functionalized PEG-based macromonomer to first form a living bottle-brush initiator. Next, a bifunctional norbornene crosslinker is added to the bottle-brush polymer to yield star polymers with a crosslinked-core and bottle-brush polymer arms. We synthesized a variety of functional macromonomers and crosslinkers to use in BASP synthesis. For example, drug-loaded doxorubicin macromonomers were synthesized that could release free doxorubicin under a light stimuli or by hydrolysis. Crosslinkers were designed to facilitate BASP degradation, and ultimately enable excretion of BASP components from the body. Various crosslinkers that respond to UV irradiation, change in pH, or reducing conditions were investigated. A multi-drug-conjugated BASP was synthesized and characterized that contained the drug components of FOLFIRINOX, a combination therapy regimen for pancreatic cancer. Nanoparticle combination therapy offers the advantage of delivering combination of drugs at desired ratios in one vehicle, which may improve efficacy due to drug synergism, enhance synthetic reproducibility, and reduce regulatory challenges. This thesis highlights the development of BASP nanotechnology in an effort to improve efficacy and reduce side effects compared to conventional therapeutics.

Användandet av denna teknik är dock inte alltid en garanti för framgång, särskilt inte för småföretag. Detta beror ofta på begränsade resurser och i den utsträckning att det finns kompetens inom webbprogrammering i företaget. Beslutet att bestämma vem som ska design hemsidan för ett litet företag är därför av stor betydelse, eftersom en väl designad hemsida är ett krav för att locka intresse för besökare på hemsidan. En hemsidas design är också en viktig faktor för det första intrycket hos en besökare av en hemsida. Hemsidor som är visuellt tilltalande tenderar att ge större förtroende vid första anblicken. Denna masteruppsats bygger på intresset hos småföretags överväganden om vilka webutvecklingsegenskaper och objektiva estetiska egenskaper i en webbdesign som genererar mer positiva första intryck. För att ta reda på detta, genomfördes intervjuer samt subjektiva och objektiva mätningar av visuell estetik för att fördjupa sig i estetiken hos småföretags hemsidor. De genomförda metoderna gav variabler att testa i en korrelationsanalys. Denna korrelationsanalys visade att två utvecklingsegenskaper hade starka korrelationer med användares perception av visuell estetik. Ingen av de objektiva estetiska egenskaperna baserade på tidigare teorier gav starka korrelationer. Därför kompletterades dessa med andra objektiva egenskaper där två av dem gav starka korrelationer.

The hardware and software structure is examined in depth, providing solid guidelines for the physical construction of the unit. The performances of statistical STARNET models using parameters obtained from the design (and three different Central Switch models) are plotted and compared for five different examples of external traffic. The model analysis gives an indication of the expected message delays, supporting the feasibility of the design.

Accurately estimating the areas that each transmitter frequently travels, rarely travels, and quickly travels through, helps to simplify the telemetry system planning problem and establishes which areas may be acceptable to provide marginal coverage. This paper discusses how using A* (A-Star) for transmitter path planning can assist in the telemetry system planning problem.

The identification of the different factors impacting a software start-up company's decision to pursue an alliance, acquisition, IPO or venture capital to sustain growth is the main objective of this research study. First and foremost on a software start-up company's list of reasons to pursue and engage in alliances is to leverage the incumbent's tangible and intangible assets. Other factors impacting their decision to leverage alliances include the opportunity to enhance stability and profitability and the opportunity to acquire key customers. Another key factor that encourages start-up company alliance or strategic partnership formation is the need for the start-up company to establish platform leadership. Like the pursuit of alliances, foremost on a software start-up company's list of reasons to pursue and engage in acquisitions is to leverage the incumbent's or the acquirer's tangible and intangible assets. Other factors impacting their decision to get acquired include the boost such an acquisition will provide in helping them establish platform leadership. Acquisitions are also pursued by start-up companies when the founders want to exit. Start-up companies also pursue to get acquired to survive, when no other option are available. Lastly, they would opt to get acquired to penetrate new markets. Given optimal economic conditions, IPOs capture the best liquidity and valuation. It is advantageous versus getting acquired in that one gets to sustain growth while retaining control of the software start-up company. Software start-up companies seek venture capital funding for a number of factors. This includes getting help in business development, leveraging the VC network, obtaining a certification effect, diversifying net worth and reducing risk, and pursuing and engaging in alliances successfully.
(cont.) There is no one universal paradigm to help a software start-up company determine when it is best to pursue an alliance, an acquisition, an IPO or venture capital. A myriad of factors specific to one's situation impacts the decision to choose the right growth strategy. To make the most informed decision, the executive team must consider all these factors.
