Анотація:

This special issue summarizes the main results of the first two years of the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) project, which is supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). SATREPS has provided excellent opportunities for our joint research team from Thailand and Japan to work in close coordination on challenging multidisciplinary issues. The Area-BCM for the Enhancement of Resilience of Industrial Complexes in Thailand project was started in 2018. Its scope includes the impacts of urban flooding disasters in Bangkok and its surrounding areas where socio-economic functionalities have been concentrated, as well as chain repercussions of disaster impacts, spread through global supply chains, in important production and logistics facilities in Thailand. Our high-level project targets are based on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) 2015–2030 as well as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially #11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), #8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and #13 (Climate Action). This issue contains interim research results from our project mainly led by members from Thailand with regional aspects of our project site. However, we plan to release another special issue by the end of our project that will include more generalized concepts and frameworks that can be applicable to other regions or countries, including Japan. As we take a multidisciplinary approach that includes science and technology, life and well-being science, and social science, our main objective in featuring this special issue is to make our interim research results known to other researchers and practitioners in related fields. We do this in order to get opinions and suggestions from different perspectives so that these may be reflected in the directions our research takes during the remainder of our project term. Finally, I am truly grateful for the authors’ insightful contributions and the referees’ acute professional suggestions, which together make this JDR special issue a valuable contribution to making our society more resilient to future disasters.

We have collected five papers that present different areas of Life-Cycle Design; each provides a unique perspective on Life Cycle Design within the broad domain of Artificial Intelligence.

Ornithological study of the special protected area "Benturi" (Balta Ialomiţei Area, Romania) "Benturi" special protected area (SPA) (Balta Ialomiţei area) is formed of three lakes: Bentul Mare, Bentul Mic and Bentul Mic Cotoi, and is situated in a natural area, without dams, belonging to the Lower Danube Green Corridor. By its position, in the middle of Balta Ialomiţei area, "Benturi" SPA represents one of the few territories which were not subjected to major anthropic influences, being visited by many birds. Avifaunal list includes 76 bird species (after new observations made in 2010) which use this territory for its trophic potential, as a resting and nestling place. Among them, there are 25 bird species of EU community interest, 35 bird species which need special protection and 17 bird species included in the Red Book of Vertebrates from Romania (for their conservation a Special Protected Area is needed). The list of the breeding bird fauna includes 54 breeding species and 11 probably breeding species; we noticed the presence of some rare breeding species in Romania and globally threatened species. Near this surface, there is an important archaeological site: Popina-Borduşani.

Abstract Neurosurgeons may derive as much as 62% of their professional income from and perform proportionately as large a number of procedures on the lumbar spine. Publications in neurosurgical journals, presentations at national and international neurosurgical meetings, and participation in organized neurosurgical symposia are, however, relatively sparse in this area of activity. It appears, therefore, that the lumbar spine must have minimal academic interest to neurosurgeons, as compared with the surgical areas where they have clinical domain, i.e., the brain and spinal cord. In that this clear discrepancy between what they do (their source of income) and what they talk about and publish is apparently not well known to neurosurgeons or their professional society directors, this paper is presented as objective, awakening evidence. The potential impact on future patient draw, professional prowess, and income, which may result from a continuation of this wide gap, is also discussed.

Bekal in Kerala has been identified as "Special Tourism Area" (STA) for integrated development, as per the National Action Plan of 1992, with the objective of intensive development of the destination in coordination with the state governments and the private sector. Bekal is one of the best potential beach resort destinations in South Asia. India has a very few comparable locations that offer the diversity of attractions to be found in Bekal. The area of Bekal beach is still virgin and pristine, offering the opportunity to set up a new planned resort destination. The Bekal Resort Development Corporation (BRDC) Limited was set up by the Government of Kerala to develop Bekal as a tourist destination after the declaration of Bekal as a Special Tourism Area in 1992. BRDC focuses on planned, environmental friendly and geographically viable methods of development. This article is a critical analysis of the potential of Bekal as a beach resort and the present stage development.

The development of the Russian Northern territories is not only a domestic problem of this country, but also a global one. The Polar region, which is also called the Arctic area, attracts many and requires concentration of all forces on the solution of the problem of its development in the economic, social, military and strategic dimensions. In proportion to these circumstances, the role of legal aspects in the developing and emerging social relations also increases. Legal regulation for these parts of the Russian Northern territories and adjacent waters of the Arctic Ocean, constituting the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, requires certain uniformity. This can be achieved by improving public administration over the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, legislative recognition of its special status and the establishment of special regimes for natural resources, environmental protection, regulation of navigation along the seaways of the Northern sea route. It involves the formation of a special management procedure, i.e. the formation of a special administrative-legal regime. This is a complex task that requires scientific understanding of the problems that have a significant impact on the formation of the administrative legal regime in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.

Анотація:

Wild garlic (Allium ursinum L.) is a member of the Allium genus. However, wild garlic is still unexplored. To date, there are few publications that deal with this Allium species. The samples of plant material were collected from the three areas near Bratislava (Bratislava region), Krajné (Trenčin region) and Becherov (Prešov region). The aim of this study was to analyse the content of total polyphenols (TPC) and the value antioxidant activity (AOA) in selected morphological parts of wild garlic. The samples of wild garlic were homogenized and a methanolic extract was prepared. These extracts were used for analyses. Total polyphenol content in the samples ranged from 253.19 ± 5.72 mg GAE.kg-1 FW (bulbs from area Becherov) to 1069.51 ± 5.49 mg GAE.kg-1 FW (leaves from area Krajne). The values of antioxidant activity were from 2.54 ± 0.83 (bulbs from area Krajne) to 47.98 ± 0.54 % inhibition (leaves from area Bratislava).

Анотація:

An investigation was made on the facies and sedimentary environment of upper cretaceous rocks at north west of Abegarm(Avaj) area. This study has also covered carving lime sediments mainly being micritic and sparits with fossil(bioclast) markings, such as: Echinoderm, alga, lamelibransch, brachiopodo and berizoa. Field and microscopic studies led to recognition and separation of 10 carbonate and carving facies as follow: Group of open marine facies that include 1- Bioclastic mudstone, 2- Bioclastic wackstone, 3- Bioclastic packstone, Group of barrier facies that include 4- Bioclastic grainstone, 5- Grainstone packstone, Group of lagoon facies that include 6- Bioclastic packstone, 7- Peloid wackstone Group of continental facies that include, 8- Litharenite, 9- Sublitharenite and 10- Gerywacki. By interpretation and analysis of these microfacies and their related environment we shall be able to recognize the old geographical(palaeobiogeographic) condition in this region which has proven to have been a ramp type carbonate platform with a nearly uniform slope(homodinal ramp).

Анотація:

Purpose Recently with increased legislative support and evidence-based studies on the importance of education for children with disabilities in China, special education programs and intervention and rehabilitation services have received more and more attention. There are limited studies on special education programs for children with disabilities located in China’s rural areas. This paper aims to select one special education program in China’s northeast rural area with a special focus on its curriculum design, accommodative services and teacher qualifications. Recommendations were provided on how to modify the curriculum to meet each child’s special needs, increase social interaction among children, increase teacher qualifications and improve teacher family collaboration. Design/methodology/approach The participating program serves orphans and children with disabilities between 6 and 18 years old and provides them 9-year free education, along with free textbooks, uniforms, food and boarding. Currently, there are approximately 100 students and 40 teachers, one director and one nurse. The teacher/staff and student ratio is 1:3. Data were collected through classroom observation and interviews. Afterward, the interview data were transcribed. Data were analyzed following Braun and Clarke’s (2006) six-step approach. The researcher reviewed the collected data, then coded the data and reviewed, refined and revised the codes, and finally themes and sub-themes were identified with quotations that support each theme/sub-theme. Findings The identified themes are accommodations, education plan and curriculum and teacher qualifications. Accommodations include, but are not limited to, visual and hearing aids. National unity textbooks were adopted, along with national syllabus objectives, as a guideline for instruction and evaluation of child progress. Teachers also adjust curriculum-based students’ individual needs. All teachers hold an associate degree in special education, and those who teach specials hold a higher degree in the specialty area. Given that there is no speech language pathologist, physical therapist, or occupational therapist, teachers with rich working experiences in the related field serve as special professionals. Research limitations/implications The current research reports the program design, accommodations for children with disabilities, curriculum and syllabus, parent/guardian role and teacher qualifications in the selected school. Given that the current study focuses on only one school located in the rural area of China’s northeast, it may represent special education programs in rural China, but it is hard to be generalized to provide a big picture of China’s special education programs in more developed, metropolitan areas. Practical implications The selected school offers accommodative services to students with disabilities; adjusts its curriculum to make it developmentally appropriate; and offers educational, medical and rehabilitation services to promote student development to the maximum. The selected school should improve teacher quality, increase social interaction between children with and without disabilities, modify the curriculum to cater to individuals with different severities of disabilities and increase family professional collaboration. Originality/value There is limited study on special education programs for young children with disabilities in China’s rural area. The current study fills this gap and studies a special education school that offers services to children as young as six years old located in a small town in the northeast of China. The special focus of the study includes program curriculum, accommodations, rehabilitation and intervention services and teacher qualifications in this program.

Анотація:

Recent biological approaches in robotic research and development have been advancing in two ways: 1) steady advances toward intelligent bio-systems by making sensors more integrated and functional, and 2) studies on the coordination of bio-information from various sources. For the coordination of bio-information dealt with in this special issue, its necessity was originally discussed in the area of mobile robots. For a mobile robot performing tasks autonomously, recognition of its relation with the external environment is essential. The concept perhaps came up as robotics aimed to improve robots' toughness to changing and unknown environments, by coordinating information from several sense organs (visual, tactile etc.) to obtain more accurate information. Man constructs a recognition system more reliably as a whole by coordinating various sets of sensory information. Attempts are also being made to con struct a new bio-information coordinating architecture aimed at achieving functions equivalent to those of human recognition. This special'issue was planned to present recent research and development as well as problems and trends in bio-information. This area of study is still in its infancy, with no study frameworks and methodology having been established in its short history. In contrast to other past special issues, this one stresses biological approaches, and I hope it will be helpful in developing the specific area of study mentioned here while helping robotists recognize current studies and problems. Finally, I express my sincere thanks to those who spared time to contribute to this issue, and to the editorial staff of the journal.
